Abstract:
Equitized state-owned enterprises (ESOEs) in Vietnam have begun to implement enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, ubiquitous in developed countries, to improve their operational and financial performance. However, such ESOEs lack a model for ERP adoption to guide them in successfully implementing ERP systems. This study is based on an extensive review of literature on ERP benefits and the equitization process in Vietnam and relevant theories on innovation adoption, and the authors propose a success model for ERP adoption in Vietnam’s ESOEs. Model hypotheses that present relationships among factors influencing ERP adoption are given and future studies are discussed.

Abstract:
It is universally acknowledged that the matter of adoption and its similar process (harmonisation or convergence) has provoked extensively heated debate in the accounting literature, both from advocates and from opponents. Nonetheless, the accounting literature lacks research into the field of Vietnamese accounting, in general, and the nature of Vietnamese accounting systems as well as Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS), in particular. This paper in-depth analyses the possibility of adopting IAS/IFRS in Vietnam by critical examining findings of the accounting literature on three aspects: factors influencing the development of accounting practices and accounting standards, factors affecting the adoption of IAS/IFRS by developing countries, and arguments for and against adoption of IAS/IFRS. Based on matching findings in the latent literature, especially those relating to contextual factors that have an impact on adopting IAS/IFRS, with the current situation of Vietnam, this paper proposes that adoption of IAS/IFRS with selection is practically possible in Vietnam.

Abstract:
Digital banking is a modern form of banking – a new type of digital business. It covers all aspects of a traditional bank and transforms it into an application through digital technology. Digital banking plays a critical role in banking and economic development in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. This research examines the factors affecting the intention to use digital banking services in Vietnam, a frontier market. The research inherits the UTAUT2 research model to examine the determinants of digital banking services. The empirical study results show that the behavioural intention of digital banking services is positively affected by effort expectancy, social influences, facilitating conditions, and trust of commercial banks. Finally, the behavioural intention of digital banking services also positively impacts the intention to use digital banking services. This study “helps commercial banks in emerging markets approach customer needs better and develop digital banking services.

Abstract:
This paper examines the impact of the ideology of ‘Asian Values' on the legal norms and practices that frame the recognition and protection of human rights in Vietnam. Specifically, the paper focusses on the extent to which Asian Values has been deployed to discourage the adoption of international human rights norms and practices in the context of Vietnam’s rapid economic development since the mid- 1980s. The paper first sketches the adoption of Asian Values in Vietnam’s politics and society. Cultural and political factors that have shaped the conception of human rights are reviewed. Human rights language and norms, as manifest in political ideologies, policies and laws are then analysed, with particular reference to the different versions of Vietnam’s Constitution. It is shown that both the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the State of Vietnam have clearly articulated Asian Values in formulating their conceptions of human rights. This outcome is argued to result from the fact that Vietnamese political leaders, alike with Lee Kwan Yew in Singapore, the progenitor of Asian Rights, have been strongly influenced by Confucian ideals of governance. Confucianism is not, however, the only basis for political ideas in Vietnam. Although Vietnam is a market economy it remains a one- party state controlled by the CPV. The Marxist-Leninist principles on which the current State of Vietnam was based at its inception in 1975 remain intact. This ideology was however layered onto generations of collectivist principles embodied in the dominant agrarian society. The influence of Asian Values, on the recognition of and support for human rights in Vietnam has, however, been largely negative rather than positive, especially in relation to recognising civil and political rights as codified in universal human rights instruments. Thus, the protection and promotion of human rights in Vietnam, going forward, essentially mandates eliminating the influence of Asian Values in the ideology of political leaders and in the wider society. Abstract:
Experts and business pundits forecasted drastic changes in Vietnam’s fledgling e-commerce when the Southeast Asian country became an official member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007. Over the past few years, as part of the Reform – called Doi moi – some Vietnamese enterprises have adopted e-commerce and already benefitted from it. In this research, the authors adapt the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and test a model of e-commerce adoption including numerous internal and external factors identified in empirical studies. The final sample of 926 small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam includes both adopter and non-adopter firms. The policy implications of this study on promoting e-commerce adoption by SMEs in transition economies, such as Vietnam, are discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose There is limited research on consumer intention and credit card adoption in the transitional economies of Southeast Asia. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the key elements that influence an individual’s intention of adopting credit cards in the transitional economy Vietnam. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was developed based on the technology adoption literature. After data cleaning, 595 responses were deemed valid. Factor analysis (EFA and CFA) was utilized on split samples, and a structural equation model developed to identify the influential technology adoption factors. Findings The analysis found strong support for the hypotheses theoretically developed. In the transitional economy of Vietnam, consumer’s intention to adopt credit cards was influenced by “Perceived usefulness (PU),” “Perceived ease of use (PEOU),” “subjective norm (SN),” “perceived self-efficacy (PSE)” and “Anxiety”. However, “perceived financial cost (PFC)” was not a significant factor. Research limitations/implications The use of cross-sectional data does not enable the analysis of time sequence of the determinants of consumer intention. Practical implications This research provides a body of knowledge on modern banking payment systems and credit card utilization factors in the transitional economy of Vietnam which has relevance for other transitional as well as developing economies of Southeast Asia, and is a good reference source for foreign investors, banks and card service companies. Originality/value To date, there are no studies that explore the interaction between “PU,” “PEOU,” “PFC,” “SN,” “PSE,” “Anxiety” and “Behavioral Intention” in the context of the Vietnamese credit card market, nor other transitional markets in Southeast Asia.

Abstract:
This study examined factors that affect the adoption of good agricultural practices (VietGAP) by Vietnamese beef cattle farmers. A random sample of 305 farmers was drawn from a total of 1279 farmers who produced and marketed beef cattle in the Binh Dinh province of Vietnam. Percentages, means, standard deviations, chi squares test, t-test and binary logistic regression model were employed to analyse the data. The study found that the young farmers with a higher education level, who had a large number of cattle, possessed a large farm, owned ICT tools for marketing, participated in credit and training programs, had a high income and communicated with extension officers, had a greater tendency to adopt VietGAP. Improving education, providing technical training and credit services, promoting the farmers’ use of ICT tools for marketing and developing agricultural extension services for livestock farmers is a way to facilitate the adoption of VietGAP by farmers. Abstract:
While many countries around the world have adopted IFRS at different levels, Vietnam is in the process of IFRS adoption by 2022. The study was conducted through the survey of 119 directors and accountants to estimate the benefits and difficulties of applying IFRS in Vietnam. The forecast content include (i) Business benefits; (ii) Benefits for investors; (iii) Benefits to policy makers; (iv) Benefits for state management agencies; (v) Challenges of applying IFRS. By regression analysis, the forecast results showed that all factors have a significantly affect on the IFRS adoption in Vietnam and they explain 54.5% of the reasons for the application. The group of benefits has a positive impact on IFRS application in Vietnam, of which, the strongest impact is the business benefits, while the challenge factor has a negative impact on IFRS adoption in Viet Nam. This result suggests policy implications for the application of IFRS in Vietnam.

Abstract:
E-banking is seen as the newest delivery channel for banking services in many developed countries and is believed to have a significant impact on the bank market. E-banking is providing numerous opportunities for banks and non-bank financial institutions to add a low cost distribution channel to their existent distribution channels. Little research on factors influencing the adoption of e-banking has been implemented in countries with very high economic growth rates (such as Vietnam) that are emerging as new potential markets. Thus, this study has, based on an extensive literature review on e-banking benefits for both banks and their customers and relevant theories on innovation adoption, proposed alternative models (including both moderator and mediating effects) of e-banking intention to use by customers in Vietnam. Furthermore, a set of model hypotheses presenting relationships among factors influencing e-banking intention to use have been set up. Practical implications and future studies were also discussed.

Abstract:
Dramatic social changes have restructured virtually all aspects of Vietnam society. Although the economic consequences of these changes are well documented, little is known about how family roles and relationships have been affected. Because social and cultural contexts powerfully shape conceptions of parenting, the accelerated rate of social change in Vietnam may have reconfigured notions of fatherhood and fathering. Through increased globalization, Western notions of the modern, involved father and these more egalitarian views of household relationships may indicate a more involved father in Vietnam today. However, Vietnam’s strong Confucian heritage, its kinship structure, and its unique history could limit the adoption of fathers as equal co-parents. This article examines changes over time in attitudes toward the father role and the extent of father involvement.

Abstract:
The paper examines the perceptions of Vietnamese accounting practitioners and academics regarding the optimal approach and timeline of IFRS adoption in Vietnam. Perceptions were obtained and analysed from 3,000 questionnaires sent to Vietnamese auditors, accountants, and accounting academics across Vietnam in 2012. A total of 728 usable responses were received producing an effective response rate of 24 per cent. The majority of the respondents considered that IFRS adoption should be permitted for voluntary adoption rather than mandatory adoption. The results indicate that the staggered convergence approach is more optimal than the big bang approach of IFRS adoption. A five year period for transition and preparation with some difficulties and obstacles associated with IFRS implementation is anticipated. The findings will assist accounting practitioners, educators, and policy makers to prepare themselves for the implications of IFRS convergence and adoption.

Abstract:
Due to the ongoing process of globalization, enterprises need to provide financial statements in accordance with international practices, in which information about assets and liabilities should be presented at fair values rather than at original prices. Fair value is supported by the International Accounting Standards Board and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adoption of fair value accounting in Vietnam and the impact of factors on the adoption of fair value. The paper used the analytical framework of previous studies to identify factors affecting the adoption of fair value. Additionally, this study applied quantitative research methods and collected data by sending questionnaires to 127 accountants and directors of listed companies. Particularly, binary logistic regression was conducted to investigate the extent of the impact of each factor on the adoption of fair value. The results have shown that human resources have the strongest and positive impact on the adoption of fair value, and this is followed by the benefits of fair value. Difficulties and markets negatively affect the use of fair value. Furthermore, the control variables that affect the use of fair value are sector, size and length of operation with different levels of impact. The accuracy rate of the overall predictive model is 85.8%. The findings provide guidance of the application of fair value accounting in companies and give recommendations to policy makers in establishing a legal accounting framework in Vietnam.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the critical determinants for the adoption of mobile commerce (m-commerce) in Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the perspective of managers. A perception-based conceptual model is developed with respect to the technology-organization-environment framework. The conceptual model is then tested and validated using structural equation modelling on the data collected from 513 SMEs in Vietnam. The study shows that perceived benefits, perceived compatibility, perceived security, perceived organizational readiness, and perceived customer pressures are critical for the adoption of m-commerce. As the first study on the critical determinants for m-commerce adoption in Vietnam, these findings are useful for SME managers as well as policymakers in designing policies as strategies to promote the wide development and diffusion of m-commerce in SMEs in Vietnam and other developing countries.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, enterprises have sought to minimize their ecological footprints through cleaner production strategies. Evidence can be gathered to support either the view that adopting environmental management standards (EMS) is a cost burden on firms and is detrimental to competitiveness, or that adopting standards increases savings giving firms competitive advantage in the long run. To resolve this seeming paradox in an emerging country context, the relationship between adopting EMS certificate and resource efficiency is examined empirically using a panel sample of 1333 manufacturing SMEs in Vietnam for the (2011–2013) period. Applying an instrumental variable approach, the results indicate that certification leads to resource savings reflected by less use of electricity, fuel and water for each unit of output. Additionally, there is a heterogeneous effect of certification on the extent of resource saving depending on the sector of operation. The paper also highlights determinants of certificate adoption among SMEs which should be considered in the promotion of environmental certificates, especially in developing countries. To successfully roll out the adoption of environmental certificates on a larger scale, better knowledge among business owners on potential competitive and environmental sustainability gains from EMS must be disseminated.

Abstract:
Since 1995, the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research has funded eight ecologically-based rodent management (EBRM) projects to address rodent problems in three countries in Mekong Delta Region, namely: Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia. This paper aims to analyze the adoption and impacts of EBRM among rice farmers in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam; the facilitating and constraining factors in its adoption, and lessons learned that could guide EBRM implementation in the future. The study utilized more of a qualitative approach anchored on an impact pathway framework. Data were gathered through focused group discussions among farmers from 19 villages, key informant interviews among key cooperators from collaborating agencies, and review of project documents and scientific papers published from the projects in the three countries. The ACIAR rodent control projects have brought about widespread adoption and significant impacts- economic, environmental, and socio-cultural- of EBRM in Vietnam but were limited in Lao PDR and Cambodia. The interplay of political, socio-cultural, historical, and economic factors is critical in the adoption of EBRM, and therefore, must be considered in promoting EBRM.

Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the factors affecting farmers’ adoption of sustainable land management (SLM) practices to combat land degradation in Vietnam. Based on the survey data from 826 farmers in three representative regions, the study showed that the SLM model and SLM adoption rate were quite varied due to differences of natural and socio-economic conditions. The results of logistic regression showed that household income and access to loans had positive impacts on SLM adoption with statistical significance in all the regions surveyed. More extension visits in the upland and coastal regions, and more agricultural laborers in farm households in the coastal and Mekong delta regions were found to increase the probability of SLM adoption. Meanwhile, the number of plots and number of members in households were found to have negative impacts on adoption. Providing training courses for farmers, building SLM demonstrations, and providing financial support for farmers through credit programs should be enhanced for better SLM adoption in farm households.

Abstract:
Purpose There is a substantial lack of the need for adopting interface between accounting systems of companies and banks in Vietnam. The purpose of this paper is to bring out the benefits and lacunas in the adoption of interface for companies as well identify the factors that possibly could be crucial in making the interface adoption a success or failure. Design/methodology/approach The study is set in the context of case analysis and has adopted a mixed method approach. In this study, a contrast between successful adopters of interface and non-adopters of interface is discussed to identify the motivating factors for interface as well as the factors which form the barriers for non-adopters. Findings By conducting a case study-based analysis for intensive data comparison of two companies as interface adopters and two as non-adopters in Vietnam, it is found that the success of the interface adoption is influenced by inter-related factors such as the manager characteristics, industrial environment, company characteristic and innovation characteristics. Particularly, the effectiveness of the interface can be well demonstrated by cost saving, manpower reduction, data consistency, accuracy, and speed of the process. Research limitations/implications The impact on the banker is not analyzed. Furthermore, this research only focuses on the effects of interface on the electronic banking system and accounting modules in the form of electronic payment, while in reality, banks provide a variety of services which can also be explored by other researchers. Originality/value This is one of the first studies in the context of Vietnam. Abstract:
Vietnam’s catfish farm is an important agricultural sector that generates over 1 million tons of food every year. The application of high-tech innovations is essential for the quick and sustainable development of catfish farm in Vietnam. However, there are both enablers and constraints that effects the decision of Vietnamese catfish farmers in applying new technology. This study aims to analyze the current situation and factors impacting farmers’ adoption of new high-tech innovations in farming Shutchi catfish at Can Tho city, Vietnam. Analyzing data from 120 Shutchi catfish farming households with the logistic regression, our results show that farming area, educational background of farmers, local government support, and local authority’s training have positive influence in the decision of farmers in accepting high-tech innovations, while number of farming years is a constraint of this process. The outcome would serve as the basis for proposals and recommendations to local authorities in order to enhance the effectiveness of promoting high-tech application in the farming of Shutchi catfish in Can Tho City, Vietnam.

Abstract:
E-banking is an inevitable trend of the banking industry in the future. E-banking benefits not only banks but also customers, so the study of models of adoption and usage of E-banking is essential. Nguyễn & Cao (2011) propose the adoption and usage of E-banking model in Vietnam - E-BAM (E-Banking Adoption Model), and their findings showed that eight following factors - performance expectancy, compatibility, perceived ease of use, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, perceived risk in transaction, bank image, and macro impact of law - affect the E-banking adoption and E-banking adoption affects E-banking usage. However, according to some relevant theoretical models, this model does not show relationships among independent variables and the effects of independent variables on the E-banking usage. In this paper, authors re-propose a new model of E-BAM to overcome the limitations of the 2011 research, the relationships in the model were analyzed by linear structural model - SEM (Structural Equation Modeling). Factors including perceived behavioral control, compatibility, performance expectancy, bank image and perceived risk in transaction are mutually influenced and affect the E-banking adoption intention; while perceived ease of use and E-banking adoption affect the E-banking usage.

Abstract:
Mobile phones with banking technology are becoming more readily available in Vietnam. Similarly, many financial institutions and mobile phone service providers are teaming up to provide several banking services to customers via the mobile phone. However, the number of people who choose to adopt or use such technologies is still relatively low. Therefore, there is a need to assess the acceptance of such technologies to establish factors that hinder or promote customer’s intention to use mobile banking. Survey data collected from 452 consumers in was analyzed to provide evidence. Results from the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using the SmartPLS 3.0 program indicated that perceived easy to use, perceived credibility, usefulness, attitude, perceived behavioral control and subjective norm are significant with respect to the customer’s intention to use mobile banking services. The results of the data analysis contribute to the body of knowledge by demonstrating that the above factors are critical in intention to use mobile banking in a developing country context. The finding of this study can also help marketers in the banking sector offer more suitable marketing strategies in their field in order to make higher attractiveness with mobile banking services

Abstract:
The growing popularity of smartphones and the proliferation of technology have accelerated the development of the digital payment industry. Fintech enables customers to access financial services more efficiently and faster than traditional business, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic due to health protocols, including restrictions on physical contact. This study investigates financial literacy, fintech adoption, and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the financial health of consumers in Vietnam. The relatively higher level of the unbanked population in Vietnam and the lower level of adult financial literacy compared with the ASEAN region motivated this study. Based on judgment sampling, participants were approached using the mall intercept technique, and those familiar with fintech were selected for the research interview. Thirty participants were interviewed and were given a survey form to be filled online using their mobile phones. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS software version 23. Perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, brand image, government support, user innovativeness, and attitude are found to be significantly correlated with fintech adoption in Vietnam, while financial literacy was found to be not significantly correlated with fintech adoption. Furthermore, further analysis using multiple linear regression revealed user innovativeness and attitude have a positive impact towards fintech adoption, and in contrast, financial literacy showed significant negative impact on fintech. This inverse relationship could indicate that in Vietnam, fintech may play a role of bringing financial inclusion where people with lower financial literacy are able to use technology for financial transactions, which was previously inaccessible to them. This could also mean that Vietnamese with higher financial literacy do not see fintech as an important tool for their financial transactions, as they may already have strong access to traditional financial facilities. This research contributes to knowledge in the field of Fintech adoption in Vietnam at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak. To foster greater financial inclusivity and access for the Vietnamese consumers, policy makers could promote the development of fintech business infrastructure and regulatory sandboxes to foster fintech startups.

Abstract:
Enabled by land reforms and fuelled by technological change, agricultural production in Vietnam grew tremendously after the mid-1980s. Focusing on groundnut, an export-oriented cash and food crop, this paper provides estimates of potential benefits from the adoption of improved varieties in northern Vietnam. At farm level, switching over to improved varieties generates additional revenue of VND1.8 to 3.9 million per hectare (US$1 is equivalent to about VND15,969). The aggregate benefits for northern Vietnam are huge. With the groundnut area remaining unchanged, the annual value of benefits from the adoption of improved varieties in 80% of the area by 2020 will be VND571,691 million (US$35.8 million) at a real discount rate of 5%. These benefits will be 14% larger if the groundnut area continues to expand at the rate achieved in the recent past.

Abstract A major study has been released on the emergence in East Asia of the logographic, or logo-syllabic, writing systems inherited from Chinese writing, attending primarily to the adaptations and innovations implemented in Korea, Vietnam, Japan and by speakers of the Tai languages of Southern China and Northern Vietnam. It contributes to our understanding of the fundamental mechanisms, of how speakers of different languages transformed the character script. The book points to overarching research problems concerning the relationship between language and writing, how aspects of this relationship are based on universal principles of learning exemplified in bilingual literacy. The research questions presented by the author will ultimately help us better understand literacy learning and the nature of reading and writing ability in general.

Abstract:
Intercountry adoption (ICA) is a relatively new phenomenon in Australia and it is only since the plight of abandoned children was brought to world awareness at the end of the Vietnam War that it has become an accepted means of eradicating or extending a family. However, the major impetus for this situation has been the rapid decrease in the availability of local infants for adoption and this appears to be an outcome of the greater social acceptability of single parenting and the introduction of the supporting parent benefit which has provided single women with the financial means to keep their babies rather than give them up for adoption. While the numbers of children available for adoption have decreased the demand for them has not and so one is faced with a problem of supply and demand which has lead many persons who would otherwise have not done to consider ICA. It is of course recognised that not all adoptive parents of overseas children come into this category, although increasingly this is becoming the case. If one Is honest then it is suggested that ICA is rarely a first choice as a way of creating a family, indeed, one might say that it is a third choice for those whose age precludes them from adopting an infant. Objectively then, the risk of adoption failure leading to breakdown is a real possibility and one that needs to be thought about and prepared for before the number of ICA accelerate and the probability of breakdown increases.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to identify the determinants of farmers’ intention of applying new technology with the case of VietGAP standard application in vegetable production in a developing country such as Vietnam. Using the survey data of agricultural workers in a framework of revised technology acceptance model, the analysis finds that farmers’ intention to apply or continue applying VietGAP is driven by factors such as mutual communication, awareness of benefits, environment, behavioral control, and governmental support based on authorities’ policies and risk awareness. Unlike other studies, this paper illustrates that awareness of the brand name related risk and producers’ health benefits have statistically significant impacts on farmers’ intentions.

Abstract:
Purpose In recent years, climate-smart agriculture (CSA) was introduced to Vietnam to enhance farmers’ resilience and adaptation to climate change. Among the climate-smart agricultural technologies (CSATs) introduced were water-saving techniques and improved stress tolerant varieties. This study aims to examine the determinants of farmers’ adoption of these technologies and the effects of their adoption on net rice income (NRI) in three provinces as follows: Thai Binh (North), Ha Tinh (Central) and Bac Lieu (South). Design/methodology/approach Determinants of adoption of CSATs and the adoption effects on NRI are analyzed by using a multinomial endogenous switching regression framework. Findings The results showed that gender, age, number of family workers, climate-related factors, farm characteristics, distance to markets, access to climate information, confidence on the know-how of extension workers, membership in social/agricultural groups and attitude toward risk were the major factors affecting the decision to adopt CSATs. However, the effects of these factors on the adoption of CSATs varied across three provinces. These technologies when adopted tend to increase NRI but the increase is much greater when these are combined. Practical implications It is important to consider first the appropriateness of the CSA packages to the specific conditions of the target areas before they are promoted. It is also necessary to enhance the technical capacity of local extension workers and provide farmers more training on CSATs. Originality/value This study is the first attempt to identify key determinants of adoption of CSATs either singly or in combination and the adoption effects on NRI in Vietnam.

Abstract:
The international anti-money laundering (AML) regime has developed and diffused rapidly in the last two decades. Most developing countries have engaged with the international AML regime under pressure from other states rather than on a voluntary basis.1Establishing the national AML regime in these countries in compliance with international standards is very expensive, while the benefits are elusive.2This paper reveals that the adoption of basically similar AML norms by many developing countries results from the global diffusion of the international AML regime through two major mechanisms: coercion (by powerful economies and international institutions) and socialization (through tactical communications). This paper points out that although the AML regime of Vietnam was established under external coercion and socialization, domestic factors determine the extent of compliance with international standards. In Vietnam, a determinative factor is the political willingness of the Communist Party in fighting money laundering.

Abstract. In many developing countries water is a key renewable resource to complement carbon-emitting energy production and support food security in the face of demand pressure from fast-growing industrial production and urbanization. To cope with undergoing changes, water resources development and management have to be reconsidered by enlarging their scope across sectors and adopting effective tools to analyze current and projected infrastructure potential and operation strategies. In this paper we use system analysis and optimal control to assess the current reservoir operation and planned capacity expansion in the Red River Basin (Northern Vietnam), and to evaluate the potential improvement by the adoption of a more sophisticated information system. Results show that the current operation can only be relatively improved by advanced optimization techniques, while investment should be put into enlarging the system storage capacity and exploiting additional information to inform the operation.

Abstract:
The concept of artificial intelligence (AI) is the transformation of inanimate objects into intelligent beings that can reason similarly to humans. Computer systems are capable of imitating a number of human intelligence functions, such as learning, reasoning, problem solving, speech recognition, and planning. In this regard, artificial intelligence applications have been developed to assist corporations and entrepreneurs in making business decisions. Hence, the aim of the study is to investigate the adoption of AI applications at the Vietnamese organizational level. Using the core structures of the technology–organization–environment (TOE), the theoretical model was constructed based on how technical and environmental elements influence companies’ technological innovation adoption decisions. Ten critical factors related to AI adoption are identified. To test the model, data were obtained from 193 senior managers who are directly in charge of information systems in both private and public companies in Vietnam. Subsequently, the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that technical compatibility, relative advantage, technical complexity, technical capability, managerial capability, organizational readiness, government involvement, market uncertainty, and vendor partnership are significantly related to AI application adoption. Interestingly, the study results indicated that the relationship between organization size and AI adoption was not statistically significant. Therefore, the suggested adoption of the AI application could contribute to the existing research on the adoption of AI through the TOE. Finally, the significant government law implications and future research directions are further addressed.
