Abstract:
Abstract:
This article offers suggestions for strengthening school-based grief support following an adolescent’s death. Such interventions must be considered within the context of: (a) development during adolescence; (b) the role of peers in adolescent development; and (c) the fact that an adolescent peer’s death is a non-normative life crisis in developed countries. Review of those three topics leads to an overview of death during adolescence; an exploration of adolescent bereavement, grief, and mourning; consideration of disenfranchised grief in relation to an adolescent peer’s death; and an integration of this foundational knowledge in supporting bereaved adolescents within a school setting.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to establish which parenting style is associated with optimum outcomes among adolescents of Spanish families considering adolescents with low vs. high self-efficacy. Although classical studies identify the authoritative parenting style (based on warmth and strictness) as the best parental strategy, emerging research seriously questions the benefits of parental strictness. Additionally, the impact of parenting on the adolescent’s psychosocial competence has been studied for years, but less is known about whether it might vary depending on individual characteristics of the adolescent (e.g., self-efficacy). Participants were 1029 Spanish adolescents, 453 males (44%), aged 12-17 years. Families were classified in one of the parenting styles groups (authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, or neglectful), and adolescents were grouped by low vs. high self-efficacy. Adolescent psychosocial competence was examined through emotional and academic self-concept, psychological maladjustment (hostility/aggression, negative self-esteem, emotional responsivity, instability, and negative view of the world), and academic performance (grade point average and number of failing grades). Main and interaction effects of parenting style and adolescent self-efficacy were tested. Main effect results indicated that adolescents with low self-efficacy were always associated with the worst psychosocial competence. Consistently, the main effect findings indicated that adolescents from indulgent and authoritative families were associated with better results than those from neglectful and authoritarian families. However, the indulgent parenting style yielded the best results. The impact of parenting might not be the same for adolescents in all cultural contexts. Contrary to findings from classical studies, parental strictness seems to be unnecessary or even detrimental for adolescents with low and high self-efficacy.

Abstract:
Inadaquate parental monitoring is widely recognized as a risk factor for the development of child and adolescent conduct problems, including early premarital sexual behavior. Previous studies examining parental monitoring have largely effect to adolescents premarital sexual behavior. Parental monitoring is the most important and effective factor to prevent early adolescents sexual activity. This paper examines the role of perceived parental monitoring in adolescent’s premarital sexual behavior (study on Adolescent’s Junior High School in Pontianak). A cross-sectional study and proportionated random sampling was conducted among 402 adolescents of junior high school at six subdistricts in Pontianak. SEM analyses was conducted using SMART-PLS. Result of path analysis revealed that parental knowledge (r = 0.389) and parental-adolescence relationship (r = 0.334) had a strong influence on parental monitoring. Then, parental monitoring had a significant indirect relationship with adolescent premarital sexual behavior through attitudes about premarital sexual (path coefficient = 0.063), and attitudes about premarital sexual and intention to sexual behaviour (path coefficient = 0.03). Parental monitoring can act as protective factor in early adolescent premarital sexual behavior. Therefore, risk reduction interventions with adolescents should include their parents to learn about monitoring skill and develop skill that will allow them to buffer negative influences.

Abstract:
Adolescents contraceptive need to be the top most priority in the national policy to prevent the adolescent pregnancies and it’s adverse consequences. All the countries of the world should have their own national strategy liaison with global consensus regarding the Adolescent contraceptives. Global challenge is to tackle the adolescents Pregnancy. Contraceptives use is the answer. So adolescents should be the centrals to everything we want to achieve, and to the overall success of the 2030 SDG Agenda. Without Contraceptive “SDG achievement” is not possible. About 21 million 15-19 year old girls in developing countries become pregnant every year. Half of these pregnancies (49%) are unintended. If we are successful to implement contraceptives among the youngsters, adolescent’s pregnancy complications can be eliminated. But again this needs strong political motivation and hard work of health care providers. Health care team should design and deliver a Confidential, personalized, adolescent’s friendly service taking into account adolescent's psychosocial & sexual needs. Almost all methods of contraceptives are suitable for adolescents except few. After taking a comprehensive medical history & assessing risk factors counselling should be done for risks & benefits. Good & sensible communication with women, their husband or partner is important. It remains a critical aspect in empowering adolescents to make informed choices and only then adolescents will use contraceptives wholeheartedly.

Abstract:
Adolescence is a transitional period between childhood and adulthood. Nowadays, adolescents in Lebanon are growing during a time of unprecedented health crises and political instability. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of malnutrition, dietary diversity in adolescents’ households, and adolescents’ self-reported food insecurity in Lebanon. A national representative sample of 450 parent–adolescent dyads (parents: mean age ± standard deviation (SD) = 46.0 ± 7.0, mothers: 59.0%; adolescents: mean age ± SD = 15.0 ± 3.0, girls: 54.6%) were interviewed. Anthropometric and blood hemoglobin measurements were performed for adolescents. The Food Consumption Score, the Arab Family Food Security Scale and the Adolescent-Level Food-Security Scale were used. The overall prevalence of adolescent stunting, thinness, overweight, obesity and anemia was 6.7%, 4.7%, 19.3%, 12.9% and 16.7%, respectively. Almost 40.4% and 68% of adolescent’s households consumed undiversified diets and were food insecure, respectively. Food insecurity (FI) affected 54.0% of adolescents. Adolescents attending schools (vs. university) were eight times more likely to be stunted (p = 0.04). Boys had a 4.3 times higher thinness risk (p = 0.005) compared to girls. Households reporting an income decline since the start of the Lebanese economic crisis were three times more likely to have a thin adolescent (p = 0.01). Parental overweight/obesity (p = 0.002) and lower education level (p = 0.04) nearly doubled the risk of adolescent overweight or obesity. At a time when escalating crises in Lebanon are shifting diets for the youngest generations, the development of adolescent-responsive nutritional policies becomes a must.

Abstract:
Palavras-chave: Saúde do Adolescente. Enfermagem. Educação. Sexualidade. Reprodução. Abstract In recent decades, the highs fees of adolescence pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STI) cases became the main subjects of important debates in many countries. According to SINASC (Live Birth Information System), in Brazil, the number of children born from adolescent mothers represents 18% of the 3 million live births in 2015. Moreover, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2016), more than 1 million new cases of STI arise among people aged by 15 to 49 years old. These data highlight the flaws in the application of an important implement for adolescent’s prevention and health promotion: health education. This study aims to board the implications of health education in the adolescent’s sensitizing regarding sexual and reproductive health. A narrative review was accomplished through articles found in the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) database and periodicals, in addition to Ministry of Health Primary Care notebooks. Thirty articles, which did not evade the theme, in Portuguese language, and had the publication dates from 2009 to 2018, were analyzed. It is noted that there's still a long journey so that sexual and reproductive education are effective and integral in the adolescence process. Problems such as humanization and lack of acceptance, in addition to stereotype maintenance and non-holistic view of the adolescents represent s some of the obstacles to be faced in this scenario. EVIDENCES OF VULNERABILITIES INVOLVED WITH THE FOOD CARE PROCESS IN THE CONTEXT OF MATERNITY IN ADOLESCENCE ABSTRACT: This qualitative study aimed at pointing out and discussing the situations that make the adolescent mother vulnerable to child care from the point of view of the individual, social and programmatic dimensions. Nine adolescents, who answered a semi-structured interview, participated in the study, and the data was analyzed by thematic content analysis. In the individual dimension, aspects related to biological health, personal trajectory, personal resources and intersubjectivity were highlighted, which represented a determinant for the adolescents to seek help in the exercise of their motherhood. In the social dimension, gender relations, intergenerational relations and the stigmatization process are evident, indicating the adolescent as an individual in relation, with multiple social influences that lead or explain, to some extent, their actions regarding the food care with the child. In the programmatic dimension, the results point to specific programs and policies, intersectoral articulation and organization of the health sector, with limited support for the development of the maternal function of adolescents as providers of food for their children. The research pointed to evidences of vulnerabilities in the individual and social dimensions, which do not find an answer at the programmatic level, leaving the adolescent even more fragile in the face of motherhood. Keywords: Adolescent. Abstract:
Adolescent as any person between ages 10 and 19. It is a transitional stage of physical, physiological and psychological development from puberty to legal adulthood. The data about important adolescent’s health issues in different areas are limited. Hence detailed investigation and reports on adolescent’s health issues is the need of the hour. To achieve wholesome adolescent health, we need to have a multidimensional approach covering all the adolescent health problems with special emphasis on mental health, behavior change communication towards healthy lifestyle and positive social environment to acquire life skills. Availability of good quality care and healthcare workers trained to deal with adolescents is critical for delivering effective health interventions. Providing health care to adolescents presents a dual challenge: the treatment of immediate health problems, and the opportunity through health promotion and disease prevention, to influence health habits, lifestyle choices, and health status in adulthood because health behaviors originating in adolescence may well have long term health consequences.

Abstract:
Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood, covering all the development experienced in preparation for adulthood. Misinformation about sex can result in a person's knowledge and perception of the ins and outs of sex itself being wrong. Knowledge of reproductive health is indispensable to society, especially the adolescent population. The main purpose of reproductive health is to provide comprehensive reproductive health services to individuals and their partners, especially adolescents, so that each individual can aim to undergo the reproductive process. The method used in this study used counseling or direct socialization with the target, namely adolescents. The specific goal is to find out the adolescent's knowledge of reproductive health. The results showed that reproductive health counseling for adolescents is going well and is carried out by the goal, and adolescents are very enthusiastic about counseling, and very beneficial for adolescents and society. In conclusion, Counseling activities have a positive impact on adolescents and society to realize increased awareness of adolescents about how to maintain reproductive health. It is expected to be additional information about the importance of knowledge about productive health.

Abstract:
This naturalistic cross-sectional study explores how and to what extent cannabis dependence was associated with intrapersonal aspects (anxiety, coping styles) and interpersonal aspects of adolescent functioning (school status, family relationships, peer relationships, social life). A convenience sample of 110 adolescents (aged 12 to 19) was recruited and subdivided into two groups (38 with a cannabis dependence and 72 nondependent) according to DSM-IV-TR criteria for cannabis dependence. Participants completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y), the Coping Across Situations Questionnaire (CASQ), and the Adolescent Drug Abuse Diagnosis (ADAD) interview investigating psychosocial and interpersonal problems in an adolescent’s life. Factors associated with cannabis dependence were explored with logistic regression analyses. The results indicated that severity of problems in social life and peer relationships (OR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.21 – 2.33) and avoidant coping (OR = 4.22, 95% CI = 1.01 – 17.73) were the only discriminatory factors for cannabis dependence. This model correctly classified 84.5% of the adolescents. These findings are partially consistent with the “self-medication hypothesis” and underlined the importance of peer relationships and dysfunctional coping strategies in cannabis dependence in adolescence. Limitations of the study and implications for clinical work with adolescents are discussed.

Abstract:
This study will look through Bandura’s Social Learning Theory perspective on how parental influence predicts Filipino adolescents' externalizing behaviors. As children are impressionable, they observe their parents as role models; their behavior develops from childhood to adolescence is dependent on parental influence. With this in mind, the study’s research objectives aim to understand how parental influences, such as abusive and antisocial behavior, affect the adolescent’s externalizing behavior and the level of externalizing behaviors among Filipino adolescents living in Metro Manila, Philippines. The researchers then surveyed 202 Filipino adolescents residing in Metro Manila, answering a questionnaire that measured family characteristics, perceived abusive and antisocial behavior of parents, and self-assessed level of externalizing behaviors. The data gathered was processed through descriptive and inferential statistics, and the results concluded that family influence does have significance in the adolescent's externalizing behavior. In conclusion, through the Social Learning Theory and the data collected, the adolescent's externalizing behaviors are due to family influence.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of the current study was to explore the simultaneous contribution of individual, social, and environmental factors, as well as the possible interactions between them to the decision to continue an adolescent pregnancy after the abortion on women´s demand has been legalized in Portugal. The sample consisted of 276 adolescents who became unintentionally pregnant and contacted with healthcare services within the legal period for induced abortion: 133 adolescents who chose to continue the pregnancy and 143 who chose to terminate the pregnancy. Data were collected between 2008 and 2013, in 53 healthcare centers of all country areas. Not having thought about both available options (i.e., continuing vs. terminating the pregnancy), belonging to families of low socioeconomic status and with adolescent pregnancy history, having dropped out of school and having lived in areas with higher population density and less educated females predicted the decision to continue the pregnancy. The lower the adolescents’ age, the more frequent was the decision to continue the pregnancy, but only when adolescents’ had not thought about both options. The effect of local religiosity differed according to the adolescents’ religious involvement. These findings have important implications for clinical practice and research on adolescents’ reproductive decisions.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Early marriage is subject to the loss of crucial moments in adolescence. Therefore, the current research focuses on how adolescents consider early marriage. AIM: This study aimed to explore adolescents’ perspectives on small islands regarding early marriage. METHOD: In this case, the perspective of eight adolescents as an actor and non-actor of early marriage and the influence of society on their perspectives was revealed using a phenomenological design. Domain analysis was used to explain facts of the sub-themes that appeared in the adolescent’s minds while responding to early marriage. RESULTS: The results showed that some adolescents considered early marriage an obstacle to success, depriving them of opportunities to enjoy adolescence. Meanwhile, others argued that it saves them from promiscuity, a form of devotion to their parents, and an acceptance of social norms by communities in the archipelago. CONCLUSIONS: The perspectives imply the need to form support groups such as adolescent role models, providers, parents, and community leaders that straighten their perspective on early marriage in island areas.

Abstract:The authors studied the level of Affective and Cognitive Empathy in 26 adolescents that live in establishments that institucionalises adolescents at risk , and studied the type of attachment and the perception they have of their early relationships with parents . This study aims to better understand the adolescents to implement intervention strategies to improve the social behavior of adolescents at risk and in need of special educational measures . Three instruments adapted for the Portuguese adolescent population were utilized for this study: the Basic Empathy Scale ( Jolliffe , 2005) , The Adolescent Attachment Inventory - IPPA ( Armsden & Greenberg , 1987) and Drawing Circles of Representatives family ( S. Pipp , Shaver P. , S. Jennings , S.Lamborn & KW Fischer , 1985). The results showed us that these adolescents of the PIAC had a lower level of empathy than that in a school population studied by Susana Anastácio (2013 ) , in 344 adolescents. It was possible to compare the results with those obtained with the IPPA and with the Design of Circles Representatives of the Family in a normal population of 400 Adolescents. The Mann Whitney test showed that this population of the PIAC differs significantly from the normal population in Attachment to peers and in the subscale Alienation to peers, as well as in the perception that adolescents imagine how the early relationships with their parents was.
Purpose: This study analyses the process of establishing the self-identity of Palembang adolescents through the social media Instagram and how they construct, manage, and deconstruct this identity. Methods: This study used a qualitative method with narrative and phenomenological approaches. Researchers collected data by observing informant accounts' text posts, photos, and short videos. They followed the comments given by the account's followers and the responses given by the account owner. Researchers also identified other social media accounts with which the adolescent was affiliated. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with informants. Results and Conclusion: The results showed that establishing Palembang adolescents' identities on Instagram media was initially carried out by identity experiments using appropriate styles and interests. This identity establishment is dynamic because adolescent will construct and deconstruct their identity. This process is determined by the responses given by his followers to his posts and the affiliate accounts he follows. The adolescent's self-identity then develops into the self-identity expected by his followers and what is 'offered' by the statements he follows. The adolescent's self-identity then develops into the self-identity that his followers expect and is 'offered' by the accounts he follows. The adolescent's self-identity is no longer what he wants. Adolescent’s identities on social media platforms show a contemporary identity that is becoming rather than being. Research Implication: The development of information technology has resulted in adolescents being able to express their identity through social media. However, these adolescents' self-identity is no longer based on the noble values of their culture but is more influenced by contemporary values formed by their generation, so it is constantly changing. Originality/value: The meaning of self-identity can no longer be understood statically but more dynamically following changes that occur in society. The adolescent's self-identity is no longer what he wants but is formed by his social environment.

Abstract:
Abstract. Background: Few studies have addressed on the role of parent–child connectedness (PCC) on adolescents' risk for suicidal ideation from a longitudinal, developmental perspective. Aim: This study examined PCC during adolescence and risk of suicidal ideation into adulthood among a nationally representative sample of American adolescents. Method: The study includes 13,234 adolescents aged 11–18 from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) who were surveyed during adolescence (1994–1995) and then again in early adulthood (2008–2009). Multinomial logistic regression estimated the association between PCC during adolescence and having ideation during the adolescence period only, in adulthood only, and in both adolescence and adulthood as compared with those without suicidal ideation. Results: After adjusting for depressive symptoms and other parent and adolescent characteristics, adolescents in two-parent households who reported higher PCC during adolescence had lower relative risk of having ideation during adolescence alone and in both adolescence and adulthood. In mother-only households, higher mother connectedness was also associated with decreased risk of having adolescent ideation. Conclusion: PCC is an important modifiable target for the prevention of suicidal ideation from adolescence into adulthood.

Abstract:
A six‐year longitudinal study investigated the impact of maternal hostile child‐rearing attitudes, role dissatisfaction, and maternal perceptions of adolescent temperamental difficultness on self‐esteem in late adolescence, after controlling for the initial self‐esteem measured in early adolescence. Adolescents (n = 313), derived from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns study, rated their self‐esteem at the study entry at age 12, and six years later at age 18. Maternal reports of child‐rearing attitudes, of role satisfaction, and of the temperament of the adolescent were obtained at the study entry and three years later. Mother's perceptions of adolescent's temperament as difficult at ages 12 and 15 predicted adolescent's self‐reported self‐esteem in late adolescence, whereas earlier self‐esteem did not predict later perceptions of temperament or parenting. We found no evidence that maternal perceptions of parenting indirectly, or after controlling for the initial level, predicted adolescent's self‐reported self‐esteem. Abstract:
ABSTRACT This work presents elements related to the social and psychological aspects of adolescence, with emphasis on the adolescent author of an infraction that complies with socioeducative measure of deprivation of liberty. It also presents considerations on the structural conditions (physical and human) and activities developed in the hospitalization units in Porto Velho / RO. The methodology used was field research in Units I and II of male sentenced adolescents and the Cultural and Development Association of Apenado and Egresso - ACUDA, a social entity located in the penitentiary complex of the capital that works with resocialization of grievances. There was also procedural research through the Computerization System of the State Court of Rondônia - STIC and interviews with professionals working in the socioeducational area and with internal adolescents. Field research, in line with referenced bibliographies, has shown that the majority of adolescents in conflict with the law are from poor families. On the other hand, the data collected in the procedural survey indicated a high rate of criminal recidivism after the age of majority, indicating the prevalence of criminality in adult life. Thus, despite significant advances in laws and resolutions related to this subject, such as the Child and Adolescent Statute - ECA and the National System of SocioEducational Assistance - SINASE, it is concluded that an innovative socio-educational model and that the resocializing dimension of the adolescent author of an infraction act prevails, effectively, in the hospitalization units. In this sense, with the prospect of a humanized and dynamic sociopedagogical practice, this paper presents a project to adapt the work methodology developed by ACUDA to the hospitalization units of the capital, whose pilot experience with some internal adolescents has already been implemented, and the implementation of the sport in the process of integral development of adolescents deprived of their liberty. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Adolescence is a transitional period between childhood and adulthood. Adolescence is a transition period of mental, physical and human reproductive development that can have an impact on general health status. The development of information and technology can affect healthy adolescent behavior including risky behavior such as smoking or drug use and free sexual behavior. The purpose of this study aims to determine the awareness of mothers who have adolescents to participate in adolescent posyandu activities and the factors driving adolescent participation. Method this research is an analytic descriptivequantitative research with a croos sectional approach, using a total sample of 79 respondents, using data, namely secondary data, primary and SPSS analysis. Based on the Chi Square test that has been conducted by researchers, the p value is 0.000 (α). So, because the p value of 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and participation in adolescent posyandu activities. So that, the better the mother's knowledge and the role of cadres, the higher the participation of adolescents in adolescent posyandu. Suggestion: the community is expected to continue to support and direct adolescents to get maximum and routine adolescent health care facilities through adolescent posyandu activities so that adolescents will be ready to become positive adolescents and have a good understanding. Abstract:
Introduction. Adolescents are the healthiest age group of the population but many studies show that period of adolescence is marked by significant morbidity and mortality. Health indicators of adolescent population have been getting worse during past decades. The aim of this study was to determine mortality rate of adolescents in the Republic of Serbia to determine most common causes of death in adolescence and to explore regional differences in adolescent mortality. Materials and methods: Documentation tables of vital statistics in the Republic of Serbia in 2004, and Documentation Tables of Census 2002 were used. The causes of mortality were classified according to ICD 10. Results and discussion. Specific morality rate in the Republic of Serbia is 32.08 on 100.000 adolescents. The leading causes of death in adolescence are injuries, malignancies and non specified causes, and there are significant regional differences, as well as gender and age differences. The mortality rate of male adolescents is about 2.4 times higher than the mortality rates in female adolescents. The mortality rate of older adolescents is significantly higher than mortality rate of younger adolescents. The mortality of adolescents is higher in Vojvodina than in Central Serbia. Precise data of external causes of death do not exist in vital statistics in our country. Conclusion. The mortality of adolescents is high, especially for older male adolescents (15 to 19 years of age) and majority of deaths among adolescents could be prevented. It is necessary to improve data of vital statistics to get better insight into causes of adolescent death.

Abstract:
Health in the adolescence period guarantees the next generation’s health. The assessment of health needs is the first stage for the implementation of health promotion interventions. This study aimed to assess the priorities of male adolescent’s health needs in Tehran, Iran, in year 2015. This cross-sectional correlational study was conducted with 1,200 male adolescents aged between 13 and 18 years. Single male adolescents studying in public guidance and high schools in Tehran, Iran, in year 2015 were chosen using a random multistage sampling method. Data were collected using the male adolescent health need assessment scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. It was found that while the lowest score was for the domain of sexual health, other domains had average or higher than average scores. More attention should be paid to the sexual health needs of male adolescents. Policy makers need to design strategies that help meet the health needs of male adolescents.

Abstract:
Abstract An important task in adolescence is to achieve autonomy while preserving a positive relationship with parents. Previous fMRI studies showed largely overlapping activation in medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for evaluating self and close-other traits but separable activation for self and non-close other. Possibly, more similar mPFC activation reflects closeness or warmth in relationships. We investigated neural indicators of the mother–adolescent relationship in adolescents between 11 and 21 years (N = 143). Mother–adolescent relationship was measured using (i) mothers’ and adolescents’ trait evaluations about each other, (ii) observations of warmth, negativity and emotional support in mother–adolescent conversation and (iii) similarity in adolescents’ neural activation for evaluating self vs mother traits. Results showed relatively more similar mPFC activation in adolescents who evaluated their mothers’ traits more positively, suggesting that this is possibly a neural indicator of mother–adolescent relationship quality. Furthermore, mid-adolescence was characterized by more negative mother–adolescent interaction compared to early and late adolescence. This effect co-occurred with mid-adolescent peaks in dorsal striatum, dorsal anterior cingulate cortex and superior temporal sulcus activation in evaluating traits of self vs mother. These results suggest more negative relationships and stronger self-focus in mid-adolescence.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction: teenage pregnancy is a public health problem, which generates serious personal, social and economic consequences. Objective: To determine the family dynamics in the pregnant adolescent of the Community of Lasso-Ecuador. Methods: Quantitative-qualitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study in a non-pyro-ballistic convenience sample of 12 pregnant adolescents, with their respective parents, belonging to the Lasso Community, Tan Cuchi Parish, Latacunga Canton, Cotopaxi Province, Ecuador. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview and the application of an FF-SIL test designed to assess family functionality in adolescents. Results: The pregnant adolescents do not belong to a functional family due to the lack of affectivity and cohesion among its members, (58.33%) of the adolescents live with their parents, thus forging affective bonds in such a way that they concern a moderately functional family, followed of the (33.33%) belonging to a dysfunctional family and in a (8.33%) they do not reflect any family bond, for which it is considered that their family nucleus is severely dysfunctional. In this way, the lack of cohesion and communication of the parents is associated with a high risk behavior in the development of adolescents. Conclusions: It was evidenced that adolescents do not have sufficient family support, thus triggering a series of conflicts, distrust and separation with family members. Therefore, it is very important to mention that during adolescence, communication and attention by parents acquires relevance in family dynamics. Abstract:
Over the past several decades there has been a surge of research on the contextual, biological, and psychological factors associated with transportation safety in adolescence. However, we know much less about the factors contributing to transportation safety among adolescents who do not follow a typical developmental trajectory. Adolescents with developmental disabilities (DD) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have a wide range of behavioral and psychological deficits that may make the complex task of driving even more challenging. Because these adolescents often retain characteristic symptoms of their disorder into adulthood, it may impede their ability to achieve important milestones during the developmental transition from adolescent to adult. As the motivating force behind autonomous living and employment, the capacity for independent transportation is paramount to an adolescent’s overall success. This critical review will draw from the current body of literature on adolescent drivers with developmental disabilities to determine (1) areas of impairment; (2) safety risk factors; and (3) effective interventions for improving driving safety in this vulnerable population of adolescent drivers between the ages of 15–22. This review will also identify important unanswered research questions, and summarize the current state of the literature.

Abstract:
Relevance. Adolescence is an important stage in human life. It offers a lot of possibilities for personal development, but it also presents serious challenges, such as development of autonomy, the search for individuality. Parent-child relationships are generally considered a factor of the development of adolescent’s autonomy. Family psychology identifies adolescence as basis for a separate stage in the family life cycle. In this regard, it seems important to investigate the processes of separation and development of the autonomy of adolescents not only in parent-child relations, but in a wider family context. Objective. The goal of the research is to study the family factors of autonomy and separation processes development in adolescence. Method and participants. 51 adolescents in age from 13 to 18 years took part in the study. The following methods were used: questionnaires on autonomy and separation processes, family and child-parent relations, “Family Sociogram”, the incomplete sentences method. Main results. The main content of the ideas about independence and autonomy in adolescents is shown: adolescents determine their autonomy primarily through the behavioral aspect and alienation. Emotional differentiation goes difficult, and adolescents are often susceptible to emotional influence in relationships with significant people. Fear of losing sovereignty is negatively associated with family cohesion, expressiveness, and independence of family members. Neurotic denial of dependence on others is negatively associated with family cohesion, independence of family members, and transparency of family rules. Lack of acceptance of the adolescent, excessive emotional distancing and lack of consent and cooperation in the family is negatively connected with autonomy development and separation of adolescents. Conclusions. It is necessary to consider the development of autonomy and separation processes in adolescence in the context of family relations. Negative family factors are connected with separation difficulties and lack of autonomy in adolescence.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Adolescence is the important period in human life. It is an essential prerequisite for playing social roles. Objective: The current study conducted a review on the concept, dimensions, and influential factors on health and risk taking, instruments and measurements of high-risk behaviors, risk factors, and high-risk behavior protective factors through adolescent perspectives. Methods: This literature review was conducted by electronic searching and library study on health and adolescents using Wiley Interscience, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Springer (1990–2012). The keywords for searching data collection sources included health, youth, young, adolescents, risk behaviors, risk taking, related factors, protective factors, risk factors, adolescent perspectives, quantitative study, qualitative study, measurement, and instrument. Results: This literature review led to the arrangement of subjects in nine general categories titled definition of health concept and its dimensions, adolescents and health in adolescence, risk taking in adolescence and its measuring tools, gender differences in adolescence health and risk taking, adolescents’ health and relationships, socioeconomic conditions and health, adolescents and psychiatric health, religion, and health, educational facilities and health, non-governmental organizations and their role in adolescents’ health. What has been achieved from a review of these articles is that several personal, social, and family factors are associated with health and risk taking in adolescents. Conclusion: Generally, adolescents cared more about the psychosocial aspects of health than the physical dimensions. They also considered factors such as independence, communication, socioeconomic conditions, mental health, religion, and educational facilities synonymous with the concept of health. Therefore, in formulation and implementation of health promotion programs for adolescents, the concept of health and its various dimensions must be considered from adolescent perspectives.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Chronic pain negatively affects an adolescent’s life; however, little is known about the social impact of chronic pain for adolescents. More is known about the general peer relationships of adolescents with chronic pain than their close friendships. Close friendships begin to take on more importance during adolescence as these relationships facilitate the development of an adolescent’s sense of personal identity and increasing independence from family influences. Thus, chronic pain may create friendship challenges for adolescents beyond those typically experienced during this developmental trajectory, which may negatively impact their abilities to secure social support.OBJECTIVES: To better understand the challenges adolescents with chronic pain face with regard to their friendships.METHODS: An interpretative phenomenological study using individual interviews was conducted.RESULTS: Two themes emerged. ‘Rethinking the self with pain’ describes the intrusive nature of chronic pain, challenging the participants to rethink the way they view themselves and their place within their social network. ‘Rethinking friendships’ describes the interpretation of their friends’ reactions to their chronic pain condition, which led to these adolescents spending more time by themselves, and feeling misunderstood and unsupported.CONCLUSIONS: The impact of chronic pain on the adolescent as an individual as well as the responses of close friends and others within their social network resulted in the development of new friendship needs. However, the adolescents were not always able to secure these new friendship needs. Their experiences suggest factors within friendships that may be ameliorated by interventions, thus maintaining and strengthening their close friendships.

Abstract:
Children with conduct disorder (CD) comprise a considerable proportion of the work of mental health professionals due to the significant disrupts caused by these behaviours at school and home. CD in childhood is associated with long term negative consequences including development of antisocial and criminal behaviours in later life. Among the multiple categorisations of CD, Socialised Aggressive Conduct Disorders (SACD) is frequently reported among adolescents and particularly troubling area for parents and teachers. With the development of autonomy and identity with advanced cognitive abilities, significant self-conceptions become more complex, differentiated and structured during adolescence. Nevertheless self-attitude forms the cognitive foundation for constructing the identity of an individual, it is reported that the most significant changes and a more accurate expression of self-concept occur in adolescence. It is imperative to note that different individual mechanisms also place a child at risk and affect the normative course of development, of which significant observations underscored the influence of adolescent self-attitude on the onset and prevalence of maladaptive emotional and behavioural problem behaviours. Through the present study the researcher examined the adolescent attitude towards self and Socialised Aggressive Conduct Disorders. The present study conducted on a sample of 380 adolescents, established the relationship between adolescent’s attitude towards self and SACD. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings substantiate the practical/empirical knowledge to parents and educators about the necessity of ensuring an environment that could mould and enhance adolescent’s attitude towards self in a more positive manner.

Abstract:
Adolescence is a prime developmental period to explore human–pet relationships, particularly given that teens are often relying less on their families, and more on other attachment figures such as peers and pets. However, most research on pet companionship is conducted with adults and young children. Moreover, lived experiences around having pets in households with adolescents are underexplored, particularly from parents’ perspectives. This qualitative interview study of 31 parents/guardians in the Northeast U.S. explored perceptions of the benefits and challenges of having pets for their adolescent’s well-being as well as how adolescents affected their pet’s well-being. Our three main themes for perceived benefits of pets included social (e.g., reducing anxiety), physical (e.g., screen time companionship), and emotional (e.g., regulation of difficult emotions such as anger, loneliness). Challenges to adolescent well-being included such social topics as family tension around unevenly shared responsibilities, physical themes such as problematic animal behaviors, and emotional themes related to grieving the passing of pets. We offer a developmental systems approach to understanding pets within adolescent families, noting future directions for developing family interventions to improve pet–adolescent interactions given the demands of child and pet upbringing during adolescence.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdown measures have had a significant impact on adolescent physical activity (PA). This study aimed to evaluate the level of PA of adolescents in private secondary educational establishments in the city of Lima after the period of confinement due to COVID-19. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with a sample of 380 students (202 men and 178 women) aged 14 to 16, using the "Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents" (PAQ-A) to measure PA. The results indicated that post-confinement PA levels are below the WHO recommendations, with the overall average of the PAQ-A scores falling within the ranges of physical inactivity. Sociodemographic analyzes revealed significant differences by gender and age, with male adolescents reporting higher levels of PA than female adolescents, and 14-year-olds being more active than 16-year-olds. Furthermore, students from institutions with lower socioeconomic vulnerability rates had better PA averages. The conclusions suggest the need to design specific strategies to increase PA in adolescent girls and older students, as well as strengthen the promotion of PA in educational centers with high socioeconomic vulnerability. This study provides evidence on the importance of interventions aimed at improving the PA of post-lockdown adolescents, highlighting the influence of sociodemographic and contextual factors. Abstract:
AbstractCongenital heart defects (CHDs) occur in 8 of 1000 live-born children, making them common birth defects in the adolescent population. CHDs may have single gene, chromosomal, or multifactorial causes. Despite evidence that patients with CHD want information on heritability and genetics, no studies have investigated the interest or knowledge base in the adolescent population. This information is necessary as patients in adolescence take greater ownership of their health care and discuss reproductive risks with their physicians. The objectives of this survey-based study were to determine adolescents’ recall of their own heart condition, to assess patient and parent perception of the genetic contribution to the adolescent’s CHD, and to obtain information about the preferred method(s) for education. The results show that adolescent patients had good recall of their type of CHD. Less than half of adolescents and parents believed their CHD had a genetic basis or was heritable; however, adolescents with a positive family history of CHD were more likely to believe that their condition was genetic (p = 0.0005). The majority of patients were interested in receiving additional genetics education and preferred education in-person and in consultation with both parents and a physician. The adolescents who felt most competent to have discussions with their doctors regarding potential causes of their heart defect previously had a school science course which covered topics in genetics. These results provide insight into adolescents’ perceptions and understanding about their CHD and genetic risk and may inform the creation and provision of additional genetic education.

Abstract:
The impact and significance of adolescent romantic relationships on adolescent psychological development has attracted a great deal of attention from researchers since the beginning of the 21st century. This paper briefly reviews the research on how adolescent RRs affect adolescent psychological development from the following three aspects. (1) Theoretical changes in the influence of adolescent romantic relationships on adolescents - from "absolute influence" to "relative influence"; (2) An exploration on the mechanisms of adolescent romantic relationships affect adolescents' mental health: Numerous studies have confirmed that the greater factor influencing adolescents is the quality of the relationship. Adolescent romantic relationships do not directly lead to negative outcomes in adolescent psychological development. In addition to this, secure attachment with romantic partners can bring many desirable outcomes for adolescents, but there are also three factors that influence adolescent attachment security: age, parental, and expression of physical intimacy. (3) Revelations from previous research on how parents and schools should properly guide adolescents. Since there is a significant correlation between adolescent-partner relationships and parenting styles during adolescence, this paper draws insights into how parents can properly guide adolescents in their interpersonal relationships.

Abstract:
Self-control is the ability to control thoughts, emotions, and impulses to pursuit of long-term goals. Adolescents with high self-control experience higher flourishing levels. The latter refers to the fulfillment of needs for competence, relationship, and self-acceptance, as well as the possession of psychological capital such as flow and commitment. High levels of self-control also seem to be linked to a positive relationship with parents, which is crucial in adolescent flourishing. However, few studies investigated the association between flourishing, self-control, and perceived parenting in adolescence. The aim of this study was to investigate how the ability to exert self-control and the need to perceive and preserve a responsive relationship with parents would facilitate adolescents’ experience of higher flourishing levels. The relationships among self-control, adolescents’ perception of some paternal and maternal dimensions (closeness, communication, and parents’ peer approval), and flourishing were analyzed in a sample of 335 Italian adolescents. Self-control was positively correlated with flourishing and the adolescent’s perception of maternal and paternal dimensions. The PROCESS model showed that perceived maternal and paternal dimensions mediate the relationship between self-control and flourishing. These findings show the importance of self-control and parenting dimensions in promoting flourishing during adolescence.

Abstract:
AbstractThe prevalence of depression rises steeply during adolescence. Family processes have been identified as one of the important factors that contribute to affect (dys)regulation during adolescence. In this study, we explored the affect expressed by mothers, fathers, and adolescents during a problem-solving interaction and investigated whether the patterns of the affective interactions differed between families with depressed adolescents and families with nondepressed adolescents. A network approach was used to depict the frequencies of different affects, concurrent expressions of affect, and the temporal sequencing of affective behaviors among family members. The findings show that families of depressed adolescents express more anger than families of nondepressed adolescents during the interaction. These expressions of anger co-occur and interact across time more often in families with a depressed adolescent than in other families, creating a more self-sustaining network of angry negative affect in depressed families. Moreover, parents’ angry and adolescents’ dysphoric affect follow each other more often in depressed families. Taken together, these patterns reveal a particular family dynamic that may contribute to vulnerability to, or maintenance of, adolescent depressive disorders. Our findings underline the importance of studying affective family interactions to understand adolescent depression.
