EVIDENCES OF VULNERABILITIES INVOLVED WITH THE FOOD CARE PROCESS IN THE CONTEXT OF MATERNITY IN ADOLESCENCE ABSTRACT: This qualitative study aimed at pointing out and discussing the situations that make the adolescent mother vulnerable to child care from the point of view of the individual, social and programmatic dimensions. Nine adolescents, who answered a semi-structured interview, participated in the study, and the data was analyzed by thematic content analysis. In the individual dimension, aspects related to biological health, personal trajectory, personal resources and intersubjectivity were highlighted, which represented a determinant for the adolescents to seek help in the exercise of their motherhood. In the social dimension, gender relations, intergenerational relations and the stigmatization process are evident, indicating the adolescent as an individual in relation, with multiple social influences that lead or explain, to some extent, their actions regarding the food care with the child. In the programmatic dimension, the results point to specific programs and policies, intersectoral articulation and organization of the health sector, with limited support for the development of the maternal function of adolescents as providers of food for their children. The research pointed to evidences of vulnerabilities in the individual and social dimensions, which do not find an answer at the programmatic level, leaving the adolescent even more fragile in the face of motherhood. Keywords: Adolescent. Abstract:
Parent-child relations are a key aspect in adolescent development, since feelings of parental acceptance or rejection have been found to be associated with teenagers’ psychological adjustment. Resilience, usually conceptualised as the ability to manage or adapt to challenges and adversity, is a fundamental factor in adjustment during adolescence, a period characterised by numerous simultaneous changes and challenges in different aspects of life. The aim of the present study is therefore to analyse the predictive capacity of different dimensions of parental socialisation (affection-communication and criticism-rejection) on adolescent resilience. Method: Participants were 899 adolescents (50.4% female), aged 12 to 19 years (M = 14.68; SD = 1.73). Linear regressions were performed to analyse the predictive capacity of the different dimensions of parental socialisation on adolescent resilience. Results: Paternal dimensions, especially paternal criticism-rejection, were revealed as relevant factors for predicting resilience scores. Discussion: The results point to the important impact of the criticism-rejection felt by adolescents, especially if perceived from the father. Different possible interpretations of these dimensions are discussed, in accordance with whether they are perceived from the mother or the father.

Abstract:
A six‐year longitudinal study investigated the impact of maternal hostile child‐rearing attitudes, role dissatisfaction, and maternal perceptions of adolescent temperamental difficultness on self‐esteem in late adolescence, after controlling for the initial self‐esteem measured in early adolescence. Adolescents (n = 313), derived from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns study, rated their self‐esteem at the study entry at age 12, and six years later at age 18. Maternal reports of child‐rearing attitudes, of role satisfaction, and of the temperament of the adolescent were obtained at the study entry and three years later. Mother's perceptions of adolescent's temperament as difficult at ages 12 and 15 predicted adolescent's self‐reported self‐esteem in late adolescence, whereas earlier self‐esteem did not predict later perceptions of temperament or parenting. We found no evidence that maternal perceptions of parenting indirectly, or after controlling for the initial level, predicted adolescent's self‐reported self‐esteem. Abstract:
Abstract An important task in adolescence is to achieve autonomy while preserving a positive relationship with parents. Previous fMRI studies showed largely overlapping activation in medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for evaluating self and close-other traits but separable activation for self and non-close other. Possibly, more similar mPFC activation reflects closeness or warmth in relationships. We investigated neural indicators of the mother–adolescent relationship in adolescents between 11 and 21 years (N = 143). Mother–adolescent relationship was measured using (i) mothers’ and adolescents’ trait evaluations about each other, (ii) observations of warmth, negativity and emotional support in mother–adolescent conversation and (iii) similarity in adolescents’ neural activation for evaluating self vs mother traits. Results showed relatively more similar mPFC activation in adolescents who evaluated their mothers’ traits more positively, suggesting that this is possibly a neural indicator of mother–adolescent relationship quality. Furthermore, mid-adolescence was characterized by more negative mother–adolescent interaction compared to early and late adolescence. This effect co-occurred with mid-adolescent peaks in dorsal striatum, dorsal anterior cingulate cortex and superior temporal sulcus activation in evaluating traits of self vs mother. These results suggest more negative relationships and stronger self-focus in mid-adolescence.

Abstract:
The impact and significance of adolescent romantic relationships on adolescent psychological development has attracted a great deal of attention from researchers since the beginning of the 21st century. This paper briefly reviews the research on how adolescent RRs affect adolescent psychological development from the following three aspects. (1) Theoretical changes in the influence of adolescent romantic relationships on adolescents - from "absolute influence" to "relative influence"; (2) An exploration on the mechanisms of adolescent romantic relationships affect adolescents' mental health: Numerous studies have confirmed that the greater factor influencing adolescents is the quality of the relationship. Adolescent romantic relationships do not directly lead to negative outcomes in adolescent psychological development. In addition to this, secure attachment with romantic partners can bring many desirable outcomes for adolescents, but there are also three factors that influence adolescent attachment security: age, parental, and expression of physical intimacy. (3) Revelations from previous research on how parents and schools should properly guide adolescents. Since there is a significant correlation between adolescent-partner relationships and parenting styles during adolescence, this paper draws insights into how parents can properly guide adolescents in their interpersonal relationships.

Abstract:
This paper utilizes existing statistics on adolescent suicide to examine adolescent suicide trends and patterns in Hong Kong for the period 1980 to 2003. Several trends and patterns could be revealed from the analyses. First, there was a gradual rising trend where adolescent suicide rates in the 1990's and the early 2000's were higher than those in the 1980's. Second, suicide rates for adolescents aged 10-24 years were lower than those of other adult age groups. Third, although adolescent suicide rates in Hong Kong were lower than those reported in some English-speaking countries and Mainland China, the figures were higher than those reported in Taiwan. Fourth, suicide rates among teenagers in early adolescence were lower than those among adolescents in late adolescence. Fifth, although male adolescent suicide rates were in general higher than female adolescent suicide rates (10-24 age group), gender differences in suicide rates appeared to be moderated by age. Sixth, there was a gradual rising trend in adolescent proportional mortality rates for suicide since the 1990's. Seventh, proportional mortality rates for suicide among teenagers in early adolescence were lower than those among adolescents in late adolescence. Finally, although jumping from a height was a common method of adolescent suicide, there was a rising trend of using other methods, such as taking drugs, hanging and charcoal burning. The observed adolescent suicide phenomena are discussed in this study with reference to the socio-cultural context of Hong Kong.

Abstract:
Abstract. Background: Few studies have addressed on the role of parent–child connectedness (PCC) on adolescents' risk for suicidal ideation from a longitudinal, developmental perspective. Aim: This study examined PCC during adolescence and risk of suicidal ideation into adulthood among a nationally representative sample of American adolescents. Method: The study includes 13,234 adolescents aged 11–18 from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) who were surveyed during adolescence (1994–1995) and then again in early adulthood (2008–2009). Multinomial logistic regression estimated the association between PCC during adolescence and having ideation during the adolescence period only, in adulthood only, and in both adolescence and adulthood as compared with those without suicidal ideation. Results: After adjusting for depressive symptoms and other parent and adolescent characteristics, adolescents in two-parent households who reported higher PCC during adolescence had lower relative risk of having ideation during adolescence alone and in both adolescence and adulthood. In mother-only households, higher mother connectedness was also associated with decreased risk of having adolescent ideation. Conclusion: PCC is an important modifiable target for the prevention of suicidal ideation from adolescence into adulthood.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between parent-adolescent relationship and adolescent compulsive buying behaviour. Using a sample of 300 adolescents (15-18 years) in India and the structural equation modelling technique, the findings reveal that self-esteem mediates the relationship between parent-adolescent relationship and adolescent compulsive buying behaviour. Design/methodology/approach – The present study is the first to experimentally manipulate important parent-adolescent relationship and measures its impact on compulsive buying among a sample of 15-18-year old adolescents. Next, the authors investigate the mediating role of self-esteem for the above relationship. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling have been used in the study. Findings – The study also establishes that familial conflict and cohesion acts as major sources of adolescent compulsivity. The authors have also examined the mediating role of self-esteem on the above relationships and found that adolescents’ compulsivity varies with the level of self-esteem (i.e. higher level of self-esteem leads to lower levels of adolescents’ compulsivity). The practical and theoretical implications are discussed within the context of adolescents’ compulsivity. Originality/value – The study makes some inimitable and significant contributions to the literature. It portrays one of few studies to investigate compulsive buying during adolescence period – a hard to reach population. Here authors experimentally manipulate parent-adolescent relationship to investigate its impact on compulsive buying. The study’s findings in regard to mediating effect of self-esteem on the parent-adolescent relationship and adolescents’ compulsive buying behaviour suggest that compulsive buying begins during adolescence period and is a common coping strategy for both boys and girls.

Abstract:
While parental knowledge of adolescents’ whereabouts is generally considered to be a key protective factor for adolescent alcohol use, the developmental links during adolescence are unclear. Focusing on within-family processes on a sample of Swedish early to late adolescents (n = 782; 49% female) over four waves of data, we (1) tested the interplay between parental knowledge and adolescent alcohol inebriation, (2) investigated whether changes over time in parental knowledge and adolescent inebriation were linked to the parent–child relationship, and (3) tested the moderating role of adolescent gender and SES on these potential links. The results from random intercept cross-lagged panel models showed that increases in parental knowledge predicted decreases in frequencies of adolescent inebriation the following year as well a more positive parent–child relationship over time. Increases in adolescent inebriation were predicted by less parental knowledge only in late adolescence. These links were not moderated by adolescent gender or SES. The results emphasize the importance of increasing parental knowledge of adolescent activities in order to reduce adolescent involvement in heavy alcohol use as well as the importance of parent–child closeness.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTIntroduction: In adolescence, there are various changes, both physical, cognitive, and social, which cause adolescents vulnerable to reproductive health problems. The family as the closest part of adolescence is one of the main factors in improving adolescent reproductive health and has a very important role in providing sexual and reproductive health information to adolescents. Objective: to find out the communication between parents and teenagers about sexual and reproductive health. Method: The design used is a systematic review. Journal searches are conducted on online databases such as PubMed, Elsevier, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. Journals, articles, and literature reviews were found using keywords parent-adolescent communication, sexual and reproductive health, adolescents. Results: A total of 7 journal articles selected from 28 articles showed that communication between parents and adolescents regarding reproductive and sexual health was very important to do. However, the implementation is still lacking due to various factors such as lack of parental knowledge, parents lacking in communication skills, the presence of shame, and cultural influences that consider reproductive and sexual health issues as taboo to be discussed with adolescents. Discussion: The communication of parents and adolescents regarding reproductive and sexual health has been widely investigated in various countries. Interventions are needed to improve the quality of communication between parents and adolescents through increasing the knowledge of parents of these adolescents.

Abstract:
Introduction: Adolescence is a stage of change that develops rapidly both in terms of physical, psychological, and intellectual changes that affect the attitudes and behaviors of adolescents in everyday life. Adolescence is prone to various reproductive health problems. The sophistication of technology and information that is easily accessible to adolescents is an influential factor in adolescent behavior patterns. However, this must be balanced with good knowledge, in order to direct adolescents in a positive direction. Knowledge of reproductive health is important for adolescents in adapting to changes during the transition. Adolescent independence determines attitudes in decision making that have an impact on their health status. The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of adolescent life skills about reproductive health at SMAN 1 Godean Sleman Yogyakarta. Method: This research is a quantitative, descriptive research. The population of this study was class X students at SMAN 1 Godean Yogyakarta totaling 112 with total sampling techniques. The research instrument is an adolescent life skills questionnaire on reproductive health with 10 question indicators. Data analysis using frequency distribution. Result: The results showed that adolescents who were classified in the capable category amounted to 65 respondents (58%) and adolescents who were not capable amounted to 47 respondents (42%). Conclusions Discussion/ Suggestion: It can be concluded that most adolescents have good life skills related to reproductive health. Recommended for adolescent to actively seek health information, both physical health and mental health, so that adolescent have good life skill and are skilled decisions making.

The Adolescent and Family Sociodemographic Schedule, Psychological Wellbeing Scale, and Affective-Cognitive Life Evaluation Scale were administered. The adolescents studied showed values above the mean for both, psychological well-being and life satisfaction. Significant relationships between the dimensions of psychological well-being and life satisfaction were found. Self-acceptance and self-control predicted life satisfaction for both early and middle adolescents; however, positive relationships and life purpose, were predictors of life satisfaction for early adolescents, whereas future plans were a predictor for middle adolescents’ life satisfaction. These findings could help in designing programs to promote well-being and life satisfaction according to adolescent developmental stages.</span></p>

Abstract:
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the associations between warm and harsh parenting and adolescent well-being, and the mediating effects of self-kindness and self-judgment, in relationships. Moreover, this study investigated developmental differences across three adolescence stages (early, middle, and late). Methods: In total, 14,776 Chinese adolescents (mean age = 13.53 ± 2.08, 52.3% males), including individuals in early (10–12 years old, N = 5055), middle (13–15 years old, N = 6714), and late adolescence (16–18 years old, N = 3007) participated in this study. All the adolescents rated their levels of warm and harsh parenting, self-kindness and self-judgment, and well-being. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was adopted to examine the mediation model. Multi-group analysis was conducted to investigate differences in the mediation model across the different developmental stages. Results: Both warm and harsh parenting were related to adolescent well-being through the mediating effects of self-kindness and self-judgment. However, warm parenting exerted a more substantial impact on adolescent well-being. Self-kindness had a more robust mediating effect than self-judgment in relationships. Moreover, harsh parenting had a weaker impact on adolescent well-being in late adolescence than in early and middle adolescence. Warm parenting had a more significant impact on adolescent well-being in early adolescence than in middle and late adolescence. Conclusions: Overall, warm parenting had a more substantial effect than harsh parenting on adolescent well-being. The findings also highlighted the crucial mediating effect of self-kindness in the relationships between parenting and well-being. Moreover, this study also indicated the importance of warm parenting in early adolescence. Intervention programs should focus on enhancing the level of warm parenting to promote self-kindness in adolescents, in order to improve their well-being.

Abstract:
A diathesis-stress interaction model is used to describe multifinality in adolescent internalizing and risky behavioral outcomes. Problematic behavior associated with adolescent insecure preoccupation (a diathesis) was expected to interact with the level of maternal autonomous discourse (a stressor) to predict specific adolescent outcomes. Assessments of adolescent preoccupied attachment organization, observations of maternal displays of autonomy in mother–adolescent interactions, and adolescent reports of internalizing symptoms and risky behaviors were obtained at age 16. As predicted, maternal autonomy in the mother–adolescent relationship helped to explain multifinality in dysfunctional symptoms among preoccupied adolescents. Adolescent preoccupation was more strongly linked to internalizing behavior when mothers demonstrated low levels of autonomy in interactions with their adolescents and more strongly linked to risky behavior when mothers displayed extremely high levels of autonomy. Implications for autonomy processes in increasing our understanding of how adolescent insecure–preoccupation relates to profiles of specific problems during adolescence are discussed as is the importance of exploring the role of attachment in different contexts.

Abstract:
Introduction/Aim: Adolescents pass through three phases of an accidental crisis: the negation of real danger, feeling of confusion and chaos with the onset of the first symptoms, a complete depressive breakdown with a different range of manifestations. The Covid-19 pandemic has become a real challenge for these patients. The aim of this study is to review and analyze the clinical psychotherapeutic material of the described phases of the passage through the accidental crisis, caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. Methods: Adolescents of different ages are involved. The materials of psychotherapeutic sessions of adolescents were used in the paper, from different phases of the adolescent crisis. To explain the phase of negation of real danger, adolescents of the early and central stages of a period of adolescence are presented. To explain the phase of feelings of confusion and chaos to complete depressive breakdown, adolescents of the late and post adolescent stages of a period of adolescence are presented. Patient presentation: In adolescents, who did not show a problematic passage through the developmental crisis, the accidental crisis of the pandemic leads to the denial of the real danger. In a younger, twelve-year-old adolescent, at a specific level of functioning, there is a weakened concentration for learning. In a slightly older, fifteen-year-old adolescent, the denial of real danger, through sublimation, goes into altruism. In adolescents with already manifested problematic passage through the developmental crisis, the symptoms worsen due to the effect of the superimposed accidental crisis caused by the pandemic. In adolescents, the middle phase of adolescence, there is a mixture of real somatic problems with somatization. In the older adolescent, post adolescent phase, with addiction disease problems, the pandemic provokes irritability and low frustrating tolerance leading to complete depressive breakdown. Conclusion: We can conclude that the superposition of accidental crises always complicates the normative adolescent crisis, but we emphasize that the manifested psychopathology can be of a transient character. Psychiatric psychotherapeutic interventions are determined in relation to the degree of threatening or completely manifested decompensation from shorter counseling interventions to the intensification of deep psychotherapy, with or without adequate drug therapy.

This article offers suggestions for strengthening school-based grief support following an adolescent’s death. Such interventions must be considered within the context of: (a) development during adolescence; (b) the role of peers in adolescent development; and (c) the fact that an adolescent peer’s death is a non-normative life crisis in developed countries. Review of those three topics leads to an overview of death during adolescence; an exploration of adolescent bereavement, grief, and mourning; consideration of disenfranchised grief in relation to an adolescent peer’s death; and an integration of this foundational knowledge in supporting bereaved adolescents within a school setting.

Purpose. Light cigarette smoking has had limited research. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between light smoking in adolescence with smoking in adulthood. Methods. National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health data, Waves I and IV, were analyzed. Previous month adolescent smoking of 1–5 cigarettes/day (cpd) (light smoking); 6–16 cpd (average smoking); 17 or more cpd (heavy smoking); and nonsmoking were compared with the outcome of adult smoking. Results. At baseline, 15.9% of adolescents were light smokers, 6.8% were average smokers, and 3.6% were heavy smokers. The smoking patterns were significantly related to adult smoking. In logistic regression analyses, adolescent light smokers had an adjusted odds ratio (AOR) of 2.45 (95% CI: 2.00, 3.00) of adult smoking; adolescent average or heavy smokers had AOR of 5.57 (95% CI: 4.17, 7.43) and 5.23 (95% CI: 3.29, 8.31), respectively. Conclusion. Individuals who initiate light cigarette smoking during adolescence are more likely to smoke as young adults. Practical Implications. When screening for tobacco use by adolescents, there is a need to verify that the adolescents understand that light smoking constitutes smoking. There is a need for healthcare providers to initiate interventions for adolescent light smoking.

Abstract:
This article explores about the sexual and reproductive features of adolescence in the context of Nepal. Adolescence refers to the years of transition from childhood to adulthood. This study is a review based on secondary data source. Most of the data and information are carried out by demographic and health survey conducted by Ministry of Health and Population. Married adolescent 15-19 years of aged population are recognized as the study population for this study. The study finds the proportion of married adolescent women are decreased from 43 percent in 1996 to 27 percent in 2016. On the basis of sexual and reproductive health behavior of adolescent, female are more active than male. The result shows that the knowledge of family planning methods among adolescents are found universal. The demand of family planning seems to be insufficient to this group. The 15 percent of adolescents have utilized the family planning methods. The unmet need of family planning is higher in adolescent women than that of national level. The adolescent pregnancy is another serious problem. Nepal Demographic Health Survey 2016 states that 17 percent of adolescents are either mothers or are pregnant. This number was 43 percent in 1996. The trend of adolescent pregnancy seems to be decreasing. However, the sexual and reproductive health behavior of adolescent has become a social concern in developing countries like Nepal. In this way, the Nepalese government should prioritize in the contemporary issues of sexual and reproductive behavior of adolescents in the country.

Abstract:
Adolescence is a period of profound physiological and psychological transformations. It is a life stage in which the adolescent is greatly influenced by the stresses that they encounter. Adolescence is a difficult stage of life in which every individual's experience changes physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Resilience is a popular concept that focuses on research that exerts influences in several fields, particularly psychology. "Resilience is a process, capacity, or outcome of successful adaptation despite challenges or threatening circumstances" and "good outcomes despite high-risk status, sustained competence under threat, and recovery from trauma." Psychological well-being is usually defined as the extent to which people live up to their full potential. Resilience is considered a significant component in promoting and sustaining adolescents' psychological well-being. The aim of the paper is to provide an outlook on resilience and how it acts on adolescents' psychological well-being. The author reviewed several articles related to adolescent's resilience and psychological well-being and found that when an adolescent becomes resilient, he is capable of successfully overcoming obstacles and focusing on achieving goals, which can improve their ability to deal with stress and trauma more effectively, and resilience negatively affects mental ill-being, such as depression, anxiety, and negative emotions. It is concluded that an adolescent with the ability to bounce back from adversities will definitely have strong psychological well-being.

Abstract:
This article highlights several promising trends in research on adolescence and discusses the likely future course of several recent developments in adolescent research. Current trends include a focus on the transition to young adulthood, the increasing examination of the context and co-occurrence of adolescent problems, and emphasis on the resilience of adolescents in high-risk circumstances. There is a strong need for more research on the cognitive and neurocognitive gains and changes of adolescence and on positive psychosocial behaviours and outcomes for youth. We are just beginning to understand within-group differences in adolescent development, including the life experiences of minority youth, adolescents with disabilities, and homosexual adolescents. The impact of social context and social change on adolescents is also receiving more attention. Methodological approaches likely to be seen more in the future include the use of pattern-centred analyses to complement traditional variable-centred approaches and a greater appreciation for qualitative data analysis as a route to gaining insights into adolescent development. Finally, university-community partnerships are promoted as a way to solve the problems of youth and improve the probability of their healthy futures.

Abstract:
Adolescence is a transitional stage of physical, emotional, and cognitive human development occurring before the onset of puberty and ending by adulthood. Sexuality, the expression of interest, orientation, and preference, is a normal part of adolescence. Adolescent sexuality encompasses multiple factors, such as developing intimate partnerships, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and culture. Adolescent sexuality has changed over the past 50 years, with adolescents now reaching physical maturity earlier and marrying later. Puberty marks the obvious physical development in early to middle adolescence and is seen as the time for potential onset of sexual thoughts and experimentation. Mostly, legislation does not explicitly criminalize consensual sexual conduct between adolescents, and this leaves a gray area to be filled in by social and cultural norms that perceive adolescent sexual conduct negatively. Most state concentrate more on penalty than on initiatives to tackle the structural background of sexual inter course-related harms. Focusing on increasing access to youth friendly services that respect adolescents’ rights to health services and privacy will be important to ensure that adolescents seek and receive these services.

Adolescence is a time of dramatic change in growth, hormonal, psychologic, and social situations. Seizure frequency, teenage pregnancy, driving, and alcohol and drug use often become major issues during the adolescent years. Furthermore, adolescents often have difficulty accepting the chronicity of epilepsy and complying with medications, which can result in physical injury and perceived or real obstacles to employment, thereby contributing to low morale. Both pediatricians and neurologists should be aware of adolescent issues in epilepsy. (J Child Neurol 2002;17:2S23—2S27).

Abstract:
Adolescence is a time for identity development and exploration. Indulgent parenting during adolescence could be developmentally inappropriate and could be associated with adolescent psychological well-being problems. Little research on indulgent parenting, however, has included and investigated both adolescent and parental well-being problems. To extend the literature, the current study used both adolescent and parental reports in a dyadic context to investigate the association between indulgent parenting and the psychological well-being problems of both adolescents and their parents. This study used a sample of 128 adolescent–parent dyads. The findings from the actor–partner interdependence model (APIM) suggested that (1) the adolescent perceptions of behavioral indulgent parenting were significantly related to their own well-being problems; (2) the parents’ perceptions of relational and behavioral indulgent parenting were significantly related to their own well-being problems; and (3) no effects were found between adolescents and their parents. The findings from this study have implications for prevention and intervention programs to improve parenting practices and reduce parents’ well-being problems.

The current study investigated personality differences between adolescent sex offenders and nonsexually offending adolescents on the Jesness Inventory. Subjects were 50 adolescent males charged with a sexual offense, 50 adolescent males charged with nonviolent offenses, and 50 adolescent males charged with violent offenses. The adolescent sex offender group generally displayed the least deviant personality and historical characteristics among the groups examined. These findings, inconsistent with the adult sex offender literature, suggest that sex offenders may be more amendable to treatment during adolescence than during adulthood and that early intervention may have preventive value.

Abstract:
Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood from ages 10 – 19 years. This age category is further divided into sub categories as Early (10 – 14years) adolescent and late (15 – 19years) adolescent. It is a very unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundation for good health. All the vices emanates from this stage of life if not managed well. This is the stage where there is rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial development. Adolescents constitute a significant proportion of our population (about 21.9%) [AHSPS 2016-2020]. A cross sectional descriptive design was used in this study where data was collected at a point in time across the health facilities with Reproductive and Maternal Health Services. Both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection were used to have a fair assessment of the issues. This study design was adopted as most appropriate because it offered the researchers the opportunity to delve deeply into the issues and appropriately respond to the objectives. The principal respondents were the pregnant Adolescent girls and adolescent girls that delivered in 2021 who had contact with health service providers within the year. Health facilities that provide Reproductive Health Services were purposively sampled from 9 Health Centres and 13 CHPS compounds. In total 390 pregnant adolescent girls who were either pregnant or lactating were studied. The secondary respondents were parents of the pregnant adolescents and lactating girls, staff of Ghana Education Service as well as department of social welfare who were purposefully selected because of the critical role they play in adolescent health related issues. Aim: Considering the role of the parent in the children and adolescent's access to treatment, it is important that the symptoms are adequately noticed by the parents. In this study, it was aimed to examine the adolescent-parent agreement in terms of symptoms of adolescents with anxiety disorder. Material and Method: 100 adolescents who applied to the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic and were diagnosed with anxiety disorder according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria were included in the study. In the study, the sociodemographic form and the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) adolescent and parent form were used for data collection. Results: When the parent and adolescent forms of RCADS were compared, the adolescent scores were significantly higher than the parents in all subscales and scale total scores, except for the separation anxiety subscale. The ICC (95% CI) value between the parent and adolescent forms of RCADS ranged from 0.06 to 0.74. Conclusion: In our study, it was found that adolescents scored their symptoms higher than their parents, and the correlation between parent-child reporting was low-moderate. Age, gender, comorbidity, and parental psychopathology were among the factors affecting adolescent-parent agreement.

AbstractThis article aims to reflect on the historical advance of protective laws, which culminated in the formalization of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA, Federal Law nº 8.069 / 1990) that replaced the Minors Code, and the Public Policies that it legitimized in the Statute Youth Law No. 12,852, of 05/08/2013. For this purpose, the historical-genealogical method based on Michel Foucault was used. In the documentary analysis, the historical evolution of the public policies of the Child and Adolescent Statutes and the Youth Statute, of the recent understanding of the rights of children, adolescents and youth, was identified. The relevance of this study is effective, due to the concern about the perception of the individuals involved, from children, as adolescents and young people recognized by the Statutes as subjects of rights. The result shows that due to the various inequalities in Brazil and lack of educational perspective, adolescents in situations of economic fragility seek the job market that allows consumption, and through this social mechanism they forge an idea about this transition, assigning notions, meanings and roles different ways. Keywords: Child and Adolescent Statute; Youth Statute; Transition; Consumption.

Adolescent risk-taking is one of the most important issues in current research on adolescence. This study aimed to exam the opinion of adolescents and adults regarding adolescent risk-taking. A total of 10 adults aged between 40-50 and 10 adolescents aged between 16-19 from middle socio-economic background residing in Ankara, Turkey, were interviewed. Adults' and adolescents' definitions and examples of risk-taking, and their perspectives regarding its sources were studied. Interviews were transcribed. Results showed that adolescents' beliefs regarding risk-taking lack a long-term perspective as they do not consider consequences of their actions and future results. Adults' beliefs on adolescent risk-taking seem to be more realistic and more related to life events than that of adolescents. Future research comparing views of both groups is needed.

Abstract:
Adolescents’ negative social expectations of their peers were examined as long-term predictors of problematic self-reported social functioning. Early adolescent negative expectations were hypothesized to predict risk-averse functioning in late adolescence that would ultimately contribute to confirmation of those expectations. Utilizing observational data and friend- and self-reports from a community sample of 184 adolescents followed from ages 13 to 25, adolescents with more negative expectations were found to have become increasingly submissive with friends over time and were rated as less romantically appealing by late adolescence (after controlling for baseline levels of these variables, baseline friend-rated social competence and self-reported depressive symptoms). In turn, submissiveness and romantic appeal predicted problematic self-reported social functioning well into adulthood and mediated the relationship between adolescent negative expectations and problematic self-reported adult social functioning. These findings support the possibility of a self-fulfilling social process unfolding from early adolescence to adulthood.

Adolescence is a pivotal period of development marked by significant physiological and psychological changes, making youth particularly susceptible to mental health challenges, including depression. A growing body of research has highlighted the important role of sleep in the etiology and exacerbation of adolescent depression. Disruptions in sleep patterns, including insomnia and irregular sleep-wake cycles, are prevalent among depressed adolescents and can exacerbate depressive symptoms. In this review, we examine alterations to sleep behavior and physiology in adolescent depression. Furthermore, we introduce a theoretical model of hypersomnia in adolescent depression. This manuscript explores the intricate relationship between sleep and adolescent depression, with a focus on future directions for research and intervention.

Abstract:
Transition from childhood to adolescence is known to bring about many changes in the lifestyle and psycho-emotional state of adolescents. One of the major lifestyle factors that affect adolescents’ physical and mental health is sleep. The aim of this study was to validate the Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale (ASHS), a tool that measures sleep hygiene, in an adolescent sample living in Greece. The study’s sample consisted of 146 Greek adolescents aged 12-18 years. The Adolescent Stress Questionnaire was used for convergent validity and correlation with adolescents’ stress. The pilot and the main study demonstrated sufficient internal consistency. Exploratory Factor Analysis showed an adequate adaptation of the original ASHS questionnaire to the Greek adolescents. The findings of this study support the use of ASHS as a reliable and valid tool for evaluating sleep-facilitating and sleep-inhibiting practices of Greek adolescents.

Abstract:
Adolescents contraceptive need to be the top most priority in the national policy to prevent the adolescent pregnancies and it’s adverse consequences. All the countries of the world should have their own national strategy liaison with global consensus regarding the Adolescent contraceptives. Global challenge is to tackle the adolescents Pregnancy. Contraceptives use is the answer. So adolescents should be the centrals to everything we want to achieve, and to the overall success of the 2030 SDG Agenda. Without Contraceptive “SDG achievement” is not possible. About 21 million 15-19 year old girls in developing countries become pregnant every year. Half of these pregnancies (49%) are unintended. If we are successful to implement contraceptives among the youngsters, adolescent’s pregnancy complications can be eliminated. But again this needs strong political motivation and hard work of health care providers. Health care team should design and deliver a Confidential, personalized, adolescent’s friendly service taking into account adolescent's psychosocial & sexual needs. Almost all methods of contraceptives are suitable for adolescents except few. After taking a comprehensive medical history & assessing risk factors counselling should be done for risks & benefits. Good & sensible communication with women, their husband or partner is important. It remains a critical aspect in empowering adolescents to make informed choices and only then adolescents will use contraceptives wholeheartedly.

Adolescence is a transitional period between childhood and adulthood. Nowadays, adolescents in Lebanon are growing during a time of unprecedented health crises and political instability. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of malnutrition, dietary diversity in adolescents’ households, and adolescents’ self-reported food insecurity in Lebanon. A national representative sample of 450 parent–adolescent dyads (parents: mean age ± standard deviation (SD) = 46.0 ± 7.0, mothers: 59.0%; adolescents: mean age ± SD = 15.0 ± 3.0, girls: 54.6%) were interviewed. Anthropometric and blood hemoglobin measurements were performed for adolescents. The Food Consumption Score, the Arab Family Food Security Scale and the Adolescent-Level Food-Security Scale were used. The overall prevalence of adolescent stunting, thinness, overweight, obesity and anemia was 6.7%, 4.7%, 19.3%, 12.9% and 16.7%, respectively. Almost 40.4% and 68% of adolescent’s households consumed undiversified diets and were food insecure, respectively. Food insecurity (FI) affected 54.0% of adolescents. Adolescents attending schools (vs. university) were eight times more likely to be stunted (p = 0.04). Boys had a 4.3 times higher thinness risk (p = 0.005) compared to girls. Households reporting an income decline since the start of the Lebanese economic crisis were three times more likely to have a thin adolescent (p = 0.01). Parental overweight/obesity (p = 0.002) and lower education level (p = 0.04) nearly doubled the risk of adolescent overweight or obesity. At a time when escalating crises in Lebanon are shifting diets for the youngest generations, the development of adolescent-responsive nutritional policies becomes a must.
