Abstract:
/ABSTRACT: Health behaviors and risk factors are common in drug addicts. Abstract:
This study explores how the representation of the drug-addict in Hollywood cinema has changed due to governmental and studio policy change, social shifts of opinion, and economic structure. This discussion and exploration primarily focuses upon narrative Hollywood film as this industry has a long and varied history of addiction films. While there have been a variety of shifts in the depiction of drug-addiction due to social changes and industry regulation, perhaps at no other time in cinema history has the culmination of economics, politics, and independent art had such a large impact on the depiction of addiction than in the 1970s. This defining decade did more than alter the social perspective on drug usage; it set the stage for a drastic alteration in the perception of drug-addiction that occurred in the decades to follow. The Seventies were filled with social upheaval and a powerful youth movement that altered the representation greatly. This study discusses three types of drug-addiction representation and the social, political, and economic context in which they reflect and influence. While the social importance placed upon cinema is not questioned in this investigation, the techniques of representation of the addict in film are explored. I examine three characterizations in the addiction films of the 1970s. These phases include, but are not limited to representations of African-Americans, war veterans, and narcissists as drug-addicts in American cinema. I propose that the representation of the addict has shifted due more to sociological impacts rather than an audience-centered and message driven approach. Expounding further, I argue that the sociological impacts, such as federal legislation, are more impacting on the representation of the drug-addict in film rather than a decisive message about addiction for the benefit of the audience. The political-economic, cultural dynamic also plays a significant role in the development of such representation

Abstract:
This thesis is divided in 8 chapters. Chapter ref{chapterpreliminaries} is of preliminary nature: we recall the tools that we will use in the rest of the thesis and some previously known results. Chapter ref{chapterpresentation} is devoted to summarize in a uniform way the new results obtained in this thesis. The other six chapters are original. In Chapters ref{chapterUOIp} and ref{chapterneron}, we prove the following: given a smooth proper morphism $f:Yrightarrow X$ over a smooth geometrically connected base $X$ over an infinite finitely generated field of positive characteristic, there are lots of closed points $xin |X|$ such that the rank of the N'eron-Severi group of the geometric fibre of $f$ at $x$ is the same of the rank of the N'eron-Severi group of the geometric generic fibre. To prove this, we first study the specialization of the $ell$-adic lisse sheaf $R^2f_*Ql(1)$ ($ellneq p$), then we relate it with the specialization of the F-isocrystal $R^2f_{*,crys}mathcal O_{Y/K}(1)$ passing trough the category of overconvergent F-isocrystals. Then, the variational Tate conjecture in crystalline cohomology, allows us to deduce the result on the N'eron-Severi groups from the results on $R^2f_{*,crys}mathcal O_{Y/K}(1)$. These extend to positive characteristic results of Cadoret-Tamagawa and Andr'e in characteristic zero.Chapters ref{chaptermarcuzzo} and ref{chapterpadic} are devoted to the study of the monodromy groups of (over)convergent F-isocrystals. Chapter ref{chaptermarcuzzo} is a joint work with Marco D'Addezio. We study the maximal tori in the monodromy groups of (over)convergent F-isocrystals and using them we prove a special case of a conjecture of Kedlaya on homomorphism of convergent $F$-isocrystals. Using this special case, we prove that if $A$ is an abelian variety without isotrivial geometric isogeny factors over a function field $F$ over $overline{F}_p$, then the group $A(F^{mathrm{perf}})_{tors}$ is finite. This may be regarded as an extension of the Lang--N'eron theorem and answer positively to a question of Esnault. In Chapter ref{chapterpadic}, we define $overline Q_p$-linear category of (over)convergent F-isocrystals and the monodromy groups of their objects. Using the theory of companion for overconvergent F-isocrystals and lisse sheaves, we study the specialization theory of these monodromy groups, transferring the result of Chapter ref{chapterUOIp} to this setting via the theory of companions. The last two chapters are devoted to complements and refinement of the results in the previous chapters. In Chapter ref{chaptertate}, we show that the Tate conjecture for divisors over finitely generated fields of characteristic $p>0$ follows from the Tate conjecture for divisors over finite fields of characteristic $p>0$. In Chapter ref{chapterbrauer}, we prove uniform boundedness results for the Brauer groups of forms of varieties in positive characteristic, satisfying the $ell$-adic Tate conjecture for divisors. This extends to positive characteristic a result of Orr-Skorobogatov in characteristic zero

Abstract:
In this thesis we prove p-adic Langlands functoriality in two settings. Firstly we prove a p-adic Labesse-Langlands transfer from the group of units in a defnite quaternion algebra to its subgroup of norm one elements. Secondly we show p-adic functoriality for inner forms of unitary groups in three variables. In both cases we show that given an eigenvariety for the first group, there exists an eigenvariety for the second group and a morphism between them that extends the classical Langlands transfer and has an interpretation as a p-adic Langlands transfer.

A necessary and sufficient condition for a sequence of polynomials, with coefficient in C(_p), to be orthogonal in this space is given, generalising a result of Amice [1] . This condition is used to prove that a particular sequence of polynomials defined in Schneider Teitelbaum [19] is not orthogonal.

Abstract:
Automatic classification of devices in computer network can be used for detection of anomalies in a network and also it enables application of security policies per device type. The key to creating a device classifier is a quality data set, the public availability of which is low and the creation of a new data set is difficult. The aim of this work is to create a tool, that will enable automated annotation of the data set of network devices and to create a classifier of network devices that uses only basic data from network flows. The result of this work is a modular tool providing automated annotation of network devices using system ADiCT of Cesnet's association, search engines Shodan and Censys, information from PassiveDNS, TOR, WhoIs, geolocation database and information from blacklists. Based on the annotated data set are created several classifiers that classify network devices according to the services they use. The results of the work not only significantly simplify the process of creating new data sets of network devices, but also show a non-invasive approach to the classification of network devices.

Abstract:
A quantum group is a noncommutative noncocommutative Hopf algebra. In this thesis we deform the locally convex Hopf algebra of locally analytic functions on GL(2,O), where O is the valuation ring of a finite extension of the p-adic numbers. We show that this deformation is a noncommutative noncocommutative locally convex Hopf algebra, i.e. a p-adic quantum group. Our main result is that the strong dual of our deformation is a Fréchet Stein algebra, i.e. a projective limit of Noetherian Banach algebras with right flat transition maps. This was shown in the commutative case by P. Schneider and J. Teitelbaum. For our proof in the noncommutative case we use ideas of M. Emerton, who gave an alternative proof of the Fréchet Stein property in the commutative case. For the proof we describe completions of the quantum enveloping algebra and use partial divided powers. An important class of locally analytic representations of GL(2,K) is constructed from global sections of line bundles on the p-adic upper half plane. We construct a noncommutative analogue of an affine version of the p-adic upper half plane which we expect to give rise to interesting representations of our p-adic quantum group. We construct this space by using the Manin quantum plane, the Bruhat-Tits tree for PGL(2,K) and the theory of algebraic microlocalization.

Abstract:
We investigate the arithmetic of p-adic automorphic forms for certain quaternion algebras over totally real fields (including GL2/Q), focussing on the question of the relationships between p-adic automorphic forms with different levels at a prime l different from p, and the relation between p-adic automorphic forms for (the multiplicative groups of) different quaternion algebras (i.e. a p-adic Jacquet–Langlands correspondence). In chapters 2 and 3 we prove results of ‘level raising’ type, showing that certain families of p-adic automorphic forms with level prime to l (l-old forms) intersect with a family of p-adic automorphic form with Iwahori level at l, where all the classical points in this second family are l-new. Chapter 2 works with definite quaternion algebras over Q, whilst chapter 3 works with GL2/Q. In chapter 3 the main tool is Emerton’s theory of completed cohomology. In chapter 4 we study indefinite quaternion algebras over totally real fields F, split at one infinite place, and prove level raising and lowering results. Finally, also in chapter 4, we give an example of a cohomological construction of p-adic Jacquet-Langlands functoriality, using completed cohomology.

After our introduction in Chapter 1, we consider van der Corput's lemma in Chapter 2. We find the nodes that minimize divided differences, and use these to find the sharp constant in a related sublevel set estimate. We go on to find the sharp constant in the first instance of the van der Corput lemma using a complex mean value theorem for integrals. With these bounds we improve the constant in the general van der Corput lemma, so that it is asymptotically sharp. In Chapter 3 we review the p-adic numbers and some results from Fourier analysis over the p-adics. In Chapter 4 we prove a p-adic version of van der Corput's lemma for polynomials, opening the way for the study of oscillatory integrals over the p-adics. Let k be a p-adic field. Split reductive groups over k can be described up to k- isomorphism by a based root datum alone, but other groups, called rational forms of the split group, involve an action of the Galois group of k. The Galois action on the based root datum is shared by members of an inner class of k-groups, in which one k--isomorphism class is quasi-split. Other forms of the inner class can be called pure or impure, depending on the Galois action. Every form of an adjoint group is pure, but only the quasi-split forms of simply connected groups are pure. A p-adic Local Langlands correspondence would assign an L-packet, consisting of finitely many admissible representations of a p-adic group, to each Langlands parameter. To identify particular representations, data extending a Langlands parameter is needed to make "completed Langlands parameters." Data extending a Langlands parameter has been utilized by Lusztig and others to complete portions of a Langlands classification for pure forms of reductive p- adic groups, and in applications such as endoscopy and the trace formula, where an entire L-packet of representations contributes at once.
(cont.) We consider a candidate for completed Langlands parameters to classify representations of arbitrary rational forms, and use it to extend a classification of certain supercuspidal representations by DeBacker and Reeder to include the impure forms.

In this thesis, I first generalize Kisin's theory of finite slope subspaces to arbitrary p-adic fields, and then apply it to the generic fibers of Galois deformation spaces. I study the finite slope deformation rings in details by computing the dimensions of their Zariski cotangent spaces via Galois cohomologies. It turns out that the Galois cohomologies tell us not only the formal smoothness of finite slope deformation rings, but also the behavior of the Sen operator near a generic de Rham representation. Applying these results to the finite slope subspace of two dimensional Galois representations of the absolute Galois group of a p-adic field, we are able to show that a generic (indecomposible) de Rham representation lies in the finite slope subspace. It follows from the construction of the finite slope subspace that the complete local ring of a point in the finite slope subspace is closely related to the finite slope deformation ring at the same point. As a consequence, we manage to show the flatness of the weight map near generic de Rham points, and accumulation and smoothness of generic de Rham points. In particular, we have a precise dimension formula for the finite slope subspace. Taking into account twists by characters, we define the nearly finite slope subspace, which is believed to serve as the local eigenvariety, as is suggested by Colmez's theory of trianguline representation. Following Gouv~a- Mazur and Kisin, we construct an infinite fern in the local Galois deformation space. Moreover, we define the global eigenvariety for GL2 over any number field, and give a lower bound of its dimension.

Abstract:
Soit F ∈ Z[X1, . . .
Let F ∈ Z[X1, . . . ,Xn] be a decomposable form, that is, a homogeneous polynomial of degree d which can be factored into linear forms over C. Denote by NF (m) the number of integer solutions to the inequality |F(x)| ≤ m and by VF (m) the volume of the set{x ∈ Rn : |F(x)| ≤ m}. In 2001, Thunder [19] proved a conjecture of W.M. Schmidt, stating that, under suitable finiteness conditions, one has NF (m) << mn/d where the implicit constant depends only on n and d. Further, he showed an asymptotic formula NF (m) = mn/dV (F) + OF (mn/(d+n−2)) where, however, the implicit constant depends on F. In subsequent papers, Thunder’s concern was to obtain a similar asymptotic formula, but with the upper bound of the error term |NF (m)−mn/dV (F)| depending only on n and d. In [20] and [22], hemanaged to prove that if gcd(n, d) = 1, the implicit constant in the error term can indeed be made depending only on n and d.The main objective of this thesis is to extend Thunder’s results to the p-adic setting. Namely, we are interested in solutions to the inequality |F(x)| · |F(x)|p1 . . . |F(x)|pr ≤ m in x = (x1, x2, . . . ,xn) ∈ Zn with gcd(x1, x2, . . . ,xn, p1 · · · pr) = 1. (5.4.3)where p1, . . . , pr are distinct primes and | · |p denotes the usual p-adic absolute value.Chapter 1 is devoted to the p-adic set-up of this problem and to the proofs of the auxiliary lemmas. Chapter 2 is devoted to extending Thunder’s results from [19]. In chapter 3, we show the effectivity of the condition under which the number of solutions of (5.4.3) is finite. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 generalize Thunder’s results from [20], [21] and [22]

For the case of compact groups G = Π∞ j=l Z(p)j which are direct products of countably many copies of a cyclic group of prime order p, links are established between the theories of uniqueness and spectral synthesis on the one hand, and the theory of algebraic numbers on the other, similar to the well-known results of Salem, Meyer et al on the circle. Let p ≥ 2 be a prime and let k{x⁻¹} denote the p-series field of formal Laurent series z = Σhj=₋∞ ajxj with coefficients in the field k = {0, 1,…, p-1} and the integer h arbitrary. Let L(z) = - ∞ if aj = 0 for all j; otherwise let L(z) be the largest index h for which ah ≠ 0. We examine compact sets of the form [Algebraic equation omitted] where θ ε k{x⁻¹}, L(θ) > 0, and I is a finite subset of k[x]. If θ is a Pisot or Salem element of k{x⁻¹}, then E(θ,I) is always a set of strong synthesis. In the case that θ is a Pisot element, more can be proved, including a version of Bochner's property leading to a sharper statement of synthesis, provided certain assumptions are made on I (e.g., I ⊃ {0,1,x,...,xL(θ)-1}). Let G be the compact subgroup of k{x⁻¹} given by G = {z: L(z) < 0}. Let θ ɛ k{x⁻¹}, L(θ) > 0, and suppose L(θ) > 1 if p = 3 and L(θ) > 2 if p = 2. Let I = {0,1,x,...,x²L(θ)-1}. Then E = θ⁻¹Ε(θ,I) is a perfect subset of G of Haar measure 0, and E is a set of uniqueness for G precisely when θ is a Pisot or Salem element. Some byways are explored along the way. The exact analogue of Rajchman's theorem on the circle, concerning the formal multiplication of series, is obtained; this is new, even for p = 2. Other examples are given of perfect sets of uniqueness, of sets satisfying the Herz criterion for synthesis, and sets of multiplicity, including a class of M-sets of measure 0 defined via Riesz products which are residual in G. In addition, a class of perfect M₀-sets of measure 0 is introduced with the purpose of settling a question left open by W.R. Wade and K. Yoneda, Uniqueness and quasi-measures on the group of integers of a p-series field, Proc. A.M.S. 84 (1982), 202-206. They showed that if S is a character series on G with the property that some subsequence {SpNj} of the pn-th partial sums is everywhere pointwise bounded on G, then S must be the zero series if SpNj → 0 a.e.. We obtain a strong complement to this result by establishing that series S on G exist for which Sn → 0 everywhere outside a perfect set of measure 0, and for which sup |SpN| becomes unbounded arbitrarily slowly.

Kent, Zachary A. "P-adic analysis and mock modular forms." Thesis, University of Hawaii at Manoa, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10125/25934.

Full text
Abstract:
A mock modular form f+ is the holomorphic part of a harmonic Maass form f. The non-holomorphic part of f is a period integral of a cusp form g, which we call the shadow of f+. The study of mock modular forms and mock theta functions is one of the most active areas in number theory with important works by Bringmann, Ono, Zagier, Zwegers, among many others. The theory has many wide-ranging applications: additive number theory, elliptic curves, mathematical physics, representation theory, and many others. We consider arithmetic properties of mock modular forms in three different settings: zeros of a certain family of modular forms, coupling the Fourier coefficients of mock modular forms and their shadows, and critical values of modular L-functions. For a prime p > 3, we consider j-zeros of a certain family of modular forms called Eisenstein series. When the weight of the Eisenstein series is p - 1, the j-zeros are j-invariants of elliptic curves with supersingular reduction modulo p. We lift these j-zeros to a p-adic field, and show that when the weights of two Eisenstein series are p-adically close, then there are j-zeros of both series that are p-adically close. A direct method for relating the coefficients of shadows and mock modular forms is not known. This is considered to be among the first of Ono's Fundamental Problems for mock modular forms. The fact that a shadow can be cast by infinitely many mock modular forms, and the expected transcendence of generic mock modular forms pose serious obstructions to this problem. We solve these problems when the shadow is an integer weight cusp form. Our solution is p-adic, and it relies on our definition of an algebraic regularized mock modular form. We use mock modular forms to compute generating functions for the critical values of modular L-functions. To obtain this result we derive an Eichler-Shimura theory for weakly holomorphic modular forms and mock modular forms. This includes an "Eichler-Shimura isomorphism", a "multiplicity two" Hecke theory, a correspondence between mock modular periods and classical periods, and a "Haberland-type" formula which expresses Petersson's inner product and a related antisymmetric inner product on M!k in terms of periods.

Abstract:
In the first part of this work we prove a formula relating the special value of a certain L-function to the order of a certain Selmer group. More precisely, let E be an elliptic curve with complex multiplication by K, a quadratic imaginary extension of π of class number 1, and suppose that E is defined over K. Let If denote the group of fractional ideals of K prime to f, the conductor of E, and ψ the Grössencharacter attached to E. One may consider the L-functions attached to the homomorphisms ψk for positive integers k and ask whether analogues of the Birch and Swinnerton - Dyer conjecture hold. Our main result on L-functions and Selmer groups is the following. Theorem 0.0.1 Let k be a positive integer and p > k a prime where E has good supersingular reduction. Then with the understanding that both sides may be simultaneously infinite. Here H1f (K, Ak) is the Selmer group for the representation associated to ψk by Class Field Theory, and Ω is a certain period of E. We furthermore show that both sides of the above equality are finite if k ≥ 3, and extend this to the case k = 2 when E is assumed to be defined over π. In the following two sections we bound the Selmer group of the dual representation by using the functional equation, then deduce results over π when E is assumed to be defined over π. The method we use is modelled on Rubin's approach to the Birch and Swinnerton - Dyer conjecture and uses the two variable Main Conjecture proved by Rubin and Kato's explicit reciprocity law. After the work mentioned above was completed it came to the attention of the author that some similar results have been obtained independently by Han. We subsequently realised that his results together with results of Nekovár could be used to provide information about Chow groups of arbitrary codimension for self products of CM elliptic curves.

This thesis concerns the geometry behind the p-adic local Langlands correspondence. We give a formalism of methods of Emerton, which would permit to establish the Fontaine-Mazur conjecture in the general case for unitary groups. Then, we verify that our formalism works well in the case of U(3) where we use the construction of Breuil-Herzig as the input for the p-adic correspondence. From the local viewpoint, we start a study of the modulo p and p-adic cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower for GL_2(Q_p). In particular, we show that we can find the local p-adic Langlands correspondence in the completed cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower

Abstract:
The dissertation is divided into two parts. The first part mainly treats a conjecture of Emil Artin from the 1930s. Namely, if f = a_1x_1^d + a_2x_2^d +...+ a_{d^2+1}x^d where the coefficients a_i lie in a finite unramified extension of a rational p-adic field, where p is an odd prime, then f is isotropic. We also deal with systems of quadratic forms over finite fields and study the isotropicity of the system relative to the number of variables. We also study a variant of the classical Davenport constant of finite abelian groups and relate it to the isotropicity of diagonal forms. The second part deals with the theory of finite groups. We treat computations of Chermak-Delgado lattices of p-groups. We compute the Chermak-Delgado lattices for all p-groups of order p^3 and p^4 and give results on p-groups of order p^5.

In the second part, we give a description of the Iwasawa modules attached to p-adic Galois representations of the absolute Galois group of K in terms of the theory of (φ,Γ)-modules of Fontaine. When the representation is de Rham when K be finite extension of Qp. This gives a natural construction of the exponential map of Perrin-Riou which is used in the construction and the study of p-adic L-functions. In the third part, we give formulas for Bloch-Kato’s exponential map and its dual for an alsolutely crystalline p-adic representation V . As a corollary of these computation, we can give a improved description of Perrin-Riou’s exponential map, which interpolates Bloch-Kato’s exponentials for the twists of V. Finally we use this map to reconstruct Kubota-Leopoldt p-adic L-functions.

Abstract:
In this thesis we study the so-called ``big Heegner points'' introduced and first studied by Ben Howard. By construction these are global cohomology classes, with values in the Galois representation associated to a twisted Hida family, interpolating in weight 2 the twisted Kummer images of CM points. In the first part, we relate the higher weight specializations of the big Heegner point of conductor one to the p-adic etale Abel-Jacobi images of Heegner cycles. This is based on a new p-adic limit formula of Gross-Zagier type obtained in the recent work [BDP] of Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna, a formula that we extend to a setting allowing arbitrary ramification at p. As a first consequence of the aforementioned relation, we deduce an interpolation of the p-adic Gross-Zagier formula of Nekovar over a Hida family. In the second part, we extend some of these formulas in the anticyclotomic direction, and find that the p-adic L-function introduced in [BDP] can be obtained as the image of a compatible sequence of big Heegner points of p-power conductor via a generalization of the Coleman power series map. By an application of Kolyvagin's method of Euler systems, we then exploit this alternate construction of the p-adic L-function to establish certain new cases of the Bloch-Kato conjecture for theRankin-Selberg convolution of a cusp form with a theta series of higher weight, and deduce one divisibility in the associated anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture.

Abstract:
Let K|Q be a number field and let Z(K,s) be its associated complex L-function. The analytic class number formula relates special values of Z(K,s) with algebraic invariants of the field K itself. It admits a Galois equivariant refinement known as Stark conjectures. We have a very similar picture in the case of elliptic curves. Let E/Q be an elliptic curve and let L(E/Q,s) be its associated complex L-function. The conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer relates the behaviour of L(E/Q,s) at s=1 to the structure of rational solutions of the equation defined by E. The equivariant Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture is obtained including in the picture the action of Galois groups. The elliptic Stark conjecture formulated by H. Darmon, A. Lauder and V. Rotger purposes a p-adic analogue of the equivariant Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, under several assumption. In their paper, the authors formulate the conjecture and prove it in some cases of good reduction of E at p using Garrett-Hida method and performing a factorization of p-adic L-functions. In this dissertation we focus on the elliptic Stark conjecture and we show how it is possible to extend the result of Darmon, Lauder and Rotger. In the case of good reduction of E at p we can slightly extend the result using Hida-Rankin method. This method also gives us a better control of the constants appearing in the result, thus yielding an explicit formula which contains invariants associated with the elliptic curve. To achieve the proof we mimic the main result of Darmon, Lauder and Rotger in our setting and we make use of a p-adic Gross-Zagier formula which relates special values of the Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna p-adic L-function to Heegner points. In a second moment we extend both our result and Darmon-Lauder-Rotger result to the case of multiplicative reduction of E at p. In this setting we cannot use Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna p-adic L-function due to some technical reasons. To avoid the problem we consider Castella's two variables p-adic L-function. We use both Garrett-Hida method and Hida-Rankin method. In the two cases we obtain formulae which are similar to those of the good reduction setting.

Abstract:
In this dissertation we investigate prior definitions for p-adic continued fractions and introduce some new definitions. We introduce a continued fraction algorithm for quadratic irrationals, prove periodicity for Q₂ and Q₃, and numerically observe periodicity for Q(p) when p < 37. Various observations and calculations regarding this algorithm are discussed, including a new type of symmetry observed in many of these periods, which is different from the palindromic symmetry observed for real continued fractions and some previously defined p-adic continued fractions. Other results are proved for p-adic continued fractions of various forms. Sufficient criteria are given for a class of p-adic continued fractions of rational numbers to be finite. An algorithm is given which results in a periodic continued fraction of period length one for √D ∈ Zˣ(p), D ∈ Z, D non-square; although, different D require different parameters to be used in the algorithm. And, a connection is made between continued fractions and de Weger’s approximation lattices, so that periodic continued fractions can be generated from a periodic sequence of approximation lattices, for square roots in Zˣ(p). For simple p-adic continued fractions with rational coefficients, we discuss observations and calculations related to Browkin’s continued fraction algorithms. In the last chapter, we apply some of the definitions and techniques developed in the earlier chapters for Q(p) and Z to the t-adic function field case F(q)((t)) and F(q)[t], respectively. We introduce a continued fraction algorithm for quadratic irrationals in F(q)((t)) that always produces periodic continued fractions.

Abstract:
The underlying motivation of the thesis is to generalise the techniques of Buzzard-Taylor and Buzzard to a totally real field F. Their novel approach to modularity of Galois representations via knowing conditions under which an overconvergent Up-eigenform is indeed a classical modular forms, was instrumental in proving new cases of Arlin conjecture for Q and has also been important in the modern theory of p-adic modular forms. My thesis is an exploration of their ideas in the Hilbert case. Analytic continuation of overconvergent Hilbert eigenfor~s depends fundamentally on the rigid geometry of Hilbert modular varieties. The model Deligne-Pappas considered, is highly singular at fibres over ramified primes and in order to avoid technical problems arising from geometry, I construct, in the first chapter, a model over the integers of a finite extension of Qp which desingularises the Deligne-Pappas model, using ideas from Pappas-Rapoport on local models. In the second chapter, I prove an analogue. in the Hilbert case where p splits completely in F, of Coleman's theorem- an overconvergent Up-eigenform of small slope is classical. The methodology is to generalise the earlier work of Buzzard on analytic continuation of overconvergent Up-eigenforms (non-ordinary loci) and then apply Kassaei's idea (ordinary loci) to glue overconvergent forms in the absence of companion forms.

Abstract:
In this thesis we study p-adic exponential sums and integrals using ideas from model theory and geometry. The first part of this thesis deals with exponential sums in P-minimal fields. The second part discusses estimates for the asymptotic behaviour of exponential sums over p-adic fields. Our work on P-minimal fields starts with the proof of a cell decomposition theorem that holds in all P-minimal fields, i.e., independently of the existence of definable Skolem functions. For P-minimal fields that lack these functions, we introduce the notion of regular clustered cells. This notion is close to the classical notion of p-adic cells, that was introduced by Denef. Our cell decomposition uses both classical cells and regular clustered cells. Next, we extend the notion of exponential-constructible functions, already defined in the semi-algebraic and subanalytic setting, to all P-minimal fields. We do this by enlarging the algebras of constructible functions with exponential sums. Using our cell decomposition theorem we prove that exponential-constructible functions are stable under integration. This means that the act of integrating an exponential-constructible function over some of its variables produces an exponential-constructible function in the other variables. In our work on estimates for the asymptotic behaviour of exponential sums we prove the Igusa, Denef-Sperber and Cluckers-Veys conjectures for polynomials with log-canonical threshold at most one half. We give two different proofs, one using motivic integration, and the other one using the Igusa zeta functions

Abstract: This survey is aimed at examining the drugaddiction reincidence phenomenon from the addict's point of view. The survey was held at the Chemical Dependence Attention Center of the Healthcare Service Dr. Cândido Ferreira in the city of Campinas/SP, counting on the participation of eleven subjects. The survey, within the psychoanalytic theoretical allusion, started from listening to the addict, with the focus on the preliminary interviews within the reference on the clinics of urgency in psychoanalysis. The results of listening and consideration activities pinpointed to the reincidence issue as a fake problem to the subjects, whereas these have manifested that the unpoisoning, concomitant to the abstinence triggered by internment, is only a moment of bereavement of delight propitiated by the drug, to which a new period of use commonly follows. The abstinence does not mean that the subjects reciprocally resign the desire of the drug, but it is only a pause probably linked to the minor tolerance to the onset provoked by the type of delight in action on the presented cases. The compelled abstinence, as a current strategy on common drugaddiction treatments, has shown highly negative consequences for the effects obtained from them.
