Abstract:
The IKEA customers are looking for new solutions to mount products in their homes and IKEA has embraced the request for this type of applications in bathroom environments as it is of the largest challenges for the customer. Double sided tape has been identified as a possible solution, hence why this project was put together. The research aims to give the reader a deeper understanding regarding double sided tape and the influences of external variables such as material, substrate and surface tension to mention a few. Extensive tests have been carried out where samples from double sided tape suppliers are examined. The test that was developed and carried out in this project aimed to include some of IKEA´s most commonly used materials together with common substrates in bathroom environments. The test data was compiled and the outcome was used to give recommendations to IKEA regarding future product development when using double sided tape and also recommend suitable tape suppliers for continued cooperation.

Abstract:
This thesis presents the study of the unstable dynamics of the detachment front of an adhesive tape peeled at constant velocity from a flat surface. We could specifically highlight the essential role of the ribbon inertia on this instability. On one hand, we have performed an experimental study of the different front dynamics at macroscopic scales, observed by fast imaging, as a function of the peeling velocity and peeling angle. We could find a novel dynamical regime with sinusoidal oscillations of the detachment front velocity at the transition between regular peeling and stick-slip motion. A theoretical model taking into account the ribbon inertia, and its numerical resolution allow to explain the different dynamics observed, and furthermore, the characteristics of those velocity oscillations. On the other hand, the recently discovered microscopic stick-slip instability has also been studied. We have characterized the amplitude of the corresponding slips as a function of the peeling velocity and peeling angle, but also, as a function of the ribbon properties (mass and bending modulus). We show that a dynamical model coupling bending and kinetic energy of the ribbon can explain its evolution with these different parameters

Rigaud, Erika. "Development of a New Guidewire Torque Device." Scholar Commons, 2014. https://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/5297.

Full text
Abstract:
Guidewires have been used in many operating rooms by vascular surgeons to assist them in positioning and maneuvering through a tortuous stenosis or lesion to a desired location, and to be used as a guide for the implantation of a catheter. Surgeons are tasked with having to insert a guidewire inside a small cavity, which requires a high level of skill and patience. The insertion of the guide wire is controlled by a torque device, which allows a surgeon to advance, rotate and grip the wet hydrophilic coating of the guidewire. Despite its many advantages, the torque device does, in fact, give rise to many time consuming issues that results in delays to the surgical procedure. One main problem in the use of the torque device is that it is introduced through the proximal end of the guidewire. Therefore, it requires the assistance of another individual, the surgical technician, to advance the torque device from the furthest point away from the patient. Once the torque device is in position, it is up to the surgeon to attempt to control the tightening, advancing and loosening of the device all with one hand. The other, free hand is used as a placement hand to secure the positioning of the guidewire within the patient. Another issue arises in the removal of the torque device, which must be loosened with one hand and slid off the same end it was introduced, often resulting in the unwanted ejection of the guide wire tip from within the patient's body. The process must then commence from the start, resulting in loss of valuable time, and be repeated until the distal tip of the guidewire is secure in the desired location and the catheter can now be introduced. The main purpose of this research is to investigate, design, and develop a new guidewire torque device to facilitate in a more controlled manipulation of a guidewire by vascular surgeons. Through in-depth interviews with both surgeons and surgical residents alike, direct observational time in the vascular surgery OR (operating room), and I obtained knowledge used as a design basis for the development of the product. For example, observations of relevant medical procedures were also accomplished at Tampa General Hospital to establish a basis for the design, and to assess current vascular surgery medical procedures. Initial design concepts where created using SolidWorks CAD software. After a period of researching and understanding user needs, an assortment of non-slip adhesives where found to be a viable solution to the problem. A characterization analysis was done on the highest rated non-slip adhesive to further define design parameters, and pave the way for FDA approval and product commercialization.

Abstract:

In this Master thesis, microwave connections between circuit boards are constructed. The primary frequency band is the X-band (8-12 GHz). The purpose of the connections is to enable a more simple and cheaper way of mounting the circuit boards inside a container.

The connections have been designed and evaluated, using different computer programs. A few prototypes have been built and measured.

The main goal of this Master thesis was to design a connection, that would be useful in practice. The connections should be easy to manufacture and have a good performance. They should also have a high tolerance for manufacturing errors.

The main part of this report contains descriptions of different designs. The designs are presented together with simulated and measured results.

The report contains designs based upon coplanar waveguides and a phase shifting technique. The result shows that designs that are using coplanar waveguides are good. The phase shifting technique has some limitations and need to be developed further.

The adhesive tape industry is mainly made up of small and medium-sized enterprises. After decades of tremendous changes in the industrial environment, it can continue to maintain stable revenue and profit, and even continue to spread the branches and leaves. In addition to continuous expansion, there is also a full grasp of the factors that are in the key manufacturers of the industrial chain. However, in the face of a more dramatic change in the industrial environment, how can industrial companies understand the status of the industry and the competitive environment through the close cooperation between the upstream, midstream and downstream supply chains, and refer to the indicators used by domestic and foreign institutions to measure sustainable operations. The operation mode and strategic policy of the adhesive tape industry will be implemented. The empirical results show that tape industry experts and stakeholders have different levels of attention to the environment, employees, society, sustainable corporate governance and economic issues, and operators can adjust short-term long-term development goals based on the order of company resource allocation, and Invest in strategic activities to enhance future competitiveness and sustainable management. The adhesive tape industry is mostly unlisted cabinet companies. Through the market value method, with the historical financial data of the same industry comparable company, with reference to the domestic liquidity discount factor, the market price range of the research company can be calculated. Collection and identification of pollen is becoming important in forensic applications. Many criminal cases had reported to link suspects to crime scene by analysis of pollen. Several methods had been used in the pollen collections and analysis, but they are expensive and tedious. Therefore, it is important to develop a simple method to collect pollens from clothes. We tried to recover pollen from clothing surface by using sticky tapes method. Tape adhesive method has been widely used for sample collection in various purposes, but the efficiency of recover invisible pollen from clothes had rare reported. Therefore, to test efficiency of tape adhesive method in recovering pollen from clothes is important. Different kind of commercial tapes, textiles and different specious of pollens were included in the testing. Results showed that tape D (SIRCHIE FINGER PRINT LAB., INC-No.131LT4) has higher recovery efficiency than that of other tapes. We also tested the adhesive ability of pollen to the clothes that were made from knit and weave textile. The data showed that knit textile adhered more pollen than that of weave textile, but tape D has higher percentage of recovering pollen from weave textile than from knit textile. Our data also showed that weave textile S that made by mixture of cotton 60% and PET 40% adhered more pollen than other weave textile. We wear clothes that were made from textile S to collect pollen from 26 different areas mostly in northern part of Taiwan and then used tape D to recover them from different part of body. Pollen was detected in different part of clothes dependent upon what kind of plant we stayed around. From this result, we concluded that tape adhesive method is suitable to recover pollen from clothes. We suggested that tape adhesive method could be one of methods for collecting pollen from clothes of suspects. It is simpler, faster and more inexpensive than other methods.

In this changing and fierce-competing environment, the company development is just like a nonstop zero-sum game. Therefore, a proper development strategy is truly a test because it relates to the company’s continuous growth even to the sustainable operation. The key success factors depend on whether the enterprise leader could propose a suitable, innovative and breakthrough growth strategy or not. Besides, the excellent executive team members and an appropriate organization culture environment that could let the employees devote themselves to are also important. Simultaneously, the enterprise leader has to be able to control the competing information in the industry so that he would know some of the disadvantages of the company’s present position, then taking actions to improve the status, and some of the advantages that are beneficial to the corporate. Although the adhesive tape industry has developed for more than fifty years in Taiwan, most of the companies are run by family, the capital of which is less than $100,000,000 NT dollars. The investor is the manager himself and the right to operate the company still lies on the first generation – the conservative entrepreneur. For the reason, this study aims to investigate the adhesive tape industry in Taiwan. With the fast economic development in the 21th century and the emerging markets like the Southeast Asia countries and mainland China, what kind of challenges would the adhesive tape industry meet under the fast-changing internal and external circumstances? In addition, in this fierce-competing market, the managerial mode that the family adopted before has not been capable of dealing with and satisfying the nowadays companies’ demands. What kind of strategies should the adhesive tape industry adopt to response the fast-changing external environment? And how could they improve their internal executive ability to accelerate the industry’s reform? This research indicates the key success factors about operation and development from some relevant literature, collection of books and journals. Through analyzing the adhesive tape industry environment in Taiwan and investigating the development strategy of the case C Company, the internal conditions and the external environment were discussed. Additionally, Five Competitive Forces by Michelle Porter was taken as the key operational index in this study. Last, according to the research results, the correct strategies for the corporate operation development are suggested as below. The company should strengthen the internal management as soon as possible, level up the R&;D ability for innovations, increase added value to the quality products, advance the equipments to be more automatic, enlarge the products’ quantities to cut the cost down, satisfy the customers’ demands amply, raise the market share, lure and train the excellent employees, search other companies for cooperation chances in the same industry, differentiate the technologies and products. As a result, the adhesive tape industry could be sustainably developed in Taiwan.

In the effect of network technology prosperity and the coming of digital economic, the market competition that all enterprises have to be faced becomes even severe and multiple. The electronic enterprise constructing becomes the primary direction of information strategy to break out the bottleneck and keep growing of enterprise in the future. The set up and implement of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is one of the most important foundation information construction during the process of enterprise electron. For the time being, there are so many international and domestic well-known software information companies, developed a ERP system of complicate also has the system implementation methodology through the integration of self information technology and complete enterprise working process. The enterprise reference model which they development is to be announced as the best practice of enterprise working process, could be used as the shortcut for system implementation and enterprise reengineering. It is understand by everybody: There is no general rule to specification enterprise working process, culture special characteristic and industrial characteristic. Consequently, happens frequently that the ERP system can not fully satisfy the working requirement of enterprises. In other words, there are “misfit” happened between ERP system and enterprise, as a result of problem is arising during implementation of ERP. Nowadays, there are so many articles in discussion globally which kind of key factors shall be considered while select and purchase ERP system. Based on these key factors, an appraisal purchasing system and decision making method are set up. But one of the most important key factors that affects the process of appraisal and decision: System integration and function satisfaction. Of which enterprises still lack of enough and efficient appraisal target to assist then to select a business working process and functional ERP software to meet their requirement. Therefore, this research uses the exploration case study method, through the industrial working characteristic analysis and ERP expert's interview, to find out the industrial customization problem which the enterprise could be confronted while implement ERP system. This could be the basis of assessment when performing ERP software system integration and function satisfaction.

In recent years the world has become more aware and concerned about the profound impact of global warming on humanity ecological environment and economic development; various countries are under the pressure to meet the national pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 1992 the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was formed, it aims to reduce greenhouse gases emissions from human activities. The Kyoto Protocol treaty was negotiated in December 1997 at the city of Kyoto, Japan, it is a legally binding agreement under which industrialized countries will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases, the greenhouse gas decrement work has advanced to a new milestone when the treaty came into force in February, 2005. In light of increasingly stringent legislation, industries have come to realize the heightened need for their actions to be seen as environmentally responsible. Many related literatures have be studied to investigate the trend of greenhouse gas management activities in Taiwan, the standard and the development status related to the greenhouse appraisal management, and the related implementation procedures. A case study was conducted on an adhesive tape manufacturer in Taiwan which had obtained the ISO 14064-1 certification. A method of using group interview and the review of internal documents was employed to study: 1. the motivation of going through the certification process, the implementation model, the content structure, the obstacles experienced, the solutions developed and related benefits realized during and after the certification process; 2. understand the core quality criteria of the certification management process and the future strategic directions; 3. provide useful information to related industries; 4. provide conclusions for the internal use for the company which will help the whole enterprise to move toward complete compliance.

The manufacturing process of adhesive tape industry needs to use large amounts of organic solvents. It’s one of the main sources of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Taiwan. Activated carbon adsorption and incineration are currently used to reduce VOCs in adhesive tape industry. In order to understand the characteristics of VOCs emissions, four manufacturing processes in adhesive tape industry which equipped with activated carbon adsorbent or regenerative thermal oxidizer were chosen as a case study. The species composition and concentration of VOCs were measured in this study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of VOCs emissions and removal efficiency of control equipment. Furthermore, to analyze the benefits of choosing the suitable VOCs emissions control technology. The results showed the major VOCs components were toluene and ethyl acetate from adhesive tape manufacturing process and toluene from release paper manufacturing process. The removal efficiency of VOCs by using activated carbon adsorption in adhesive tape manufacturing process was 92.6%, and two regenerative thermal oxidizers were 96.9% and 97.9%, respectively. Furthermore, the efficiency for the release-paper manufacturing process by using activated carbon adsorption was up to 99.4%. All of the results complied with the emission standards (92%), but removal efficiency of adhesive tape manufacturing process by using the activated carbon adsorption was lower than those of the other processes. After comprehensively analyzing the characteristics of VOCs emissions, the removal efficiencies, the emission standards and the benefit of reducing air pollution fee, the release paper manufacturing process can use activated carbon adsorption to remove and recycle toluene. However, the regenerative thermal oxidizer is more suitable for the use of removing VOCs in adhesive tape manufacturing process.

The aim of this study was to use multivariate statistical techniques to: (1) determine the reproducibility of fiber evidence analyzed by MSP, (2) determine whether XRF is an appropriate technique for forensic tape analysis, and (3) determine if DART/MS is an appropriate technique for forensic tape analysis. This was achieved by employing several multivariate statistical techniques including agglomerative hierarchical clustering, principal component analysis, discriminant analysis, and analysis of variance. First, twelve dyed textile fibers were analyzed by UV-Visible MSP. This analysis included an inter-laboratory study, external validations, differing preprocessing techniques, and color coordinates. The inter-laboratory study showed no statistically significant difference between the different instruments. The external validations had overall acceptable results. Using first derivatives as a preprocessing technique and color coordinates to define color did not result in any additional information. Next, the tape backings of thirty-three brands were analyzed by XRF. After chemometric analysis it was concluded that the 3M tapes with black adhesive can be classified by brand except for Super 33+ (Cold Weather) and Super 88. The colorless adhesive tapes were separated into two large groups which were correlated with the presence of aluminosilicate filler. Overall, no additional discrimination was seen by using XRF compared to the traditional instrumentation for tape analysis previously published. Lastly, the backings of eighty-nine brands of tape were analyzed by DART/MS. The analysis of the black adhesive tapes showed that again discrimination between brands is possible except for Super 33+ and Super 88. However, now Tartan and Temflex have become indistinguishable. The colorless adhesive tapes again were more or less indistinguishable from one another with the exception of Tuff Hand Tool, Qualpack, and a roll of 3M Tartan, which were found to be unique. It cannot be determined if additional discrimination was achieved with DART/MS because the multivariate statistical techniques have not been applied to the other instrumental techniques used during tape analysis.

Taiwan is an island with having many aborigines of different characteristics. This Study of creation chose Tao tribe as the research subject, and the main reasons are their living environment and life style are different than those indigenous aborigines in Taiwan, which has formed their unique cultural characteristics. After collecting, organizing and analyzing Tao tribe’s cultural characteristics, the geometric design has been used as the design concept to apply the colour analysis, graphic simplification and free association to those collected and extracted Tao’s cultural patterns, and then created and designed those patterns that different from traditional ones, as well as applied those pattern to the paper tape that has been popular to young people in recent years. In this Study of creation, it collected several Tao’s tribal cultures and characteristics, then it discovered that since the life in offshore islands and lack of living resources, Tao people made and created plain and simple clothes and appliances. Unique totems yielded from its marine culture that can reveal its cultural characteristics. In terms of the overall analysis for its cultural patterns, it can directly find that it does have original geometric features.
