Abstract:
A Review of: Johnston, L. R., Carlson, J., Hudson-Vitale, C., Imker, H., Kozlowski, W., Olendorf, R., & Stewart, C. (2018). How important are data curation activities to researchers? Gaps and opportunities for academic libraries. Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication, 6(1), 1-24. https://doi.org/10.7710/2162-3309.2198 Abstract Objective – To identify the data curation activities most valued by researchers at universities. Design – Focus group and survey instrument. Setting – Six R1: Doctoral Universities in the United States of America that are part of a Data Curation Network (DCN) project to design a shared data curation service. Subjects – 91 researchers, librarians, and support staff. Methods – The authors used focus group methodology to collect data about valued data curation activities, current practices, and satisfaction with existing services or activities. Six focus groups were conducted at participants’ places of employment. Participants reviewed a list of 35 possible data curation activities, including documentation, data visualization, and rights management. A card-swapping exercise enabled subjects to rank the most important issues on a scale of 1-5, with “most important” activities becoming the subject of a facilitated discussion. In a short paper-based survey, participants also noted whether a data curation practice is in place at their institution, and their satisfaction with the practice. Main Results – Twelve data curation activities were identified as “highly rated” services that academic institutions could focus on providing to researchers. Documentation, Secure Storage, Quality Assurance, and Persistent Identifier were the data curation activities that the majority of participants rated as “most important.” Participants identified the data curation practices in place at their institutions, including documentation (80%), secure storage (75%), chain of custody (64%), metadata (63%), file inventory or manifest (58%), data visualization (58%), versioning (56%), file format transformations (55%), and quality assurance (52%). Participants reported low levels of satisfaction with their institutions’ data curation activities. Conclusion – Academic libraries have an opportunity to develop or improve existing data curation services by focusing on the twelve data curation activities that researchers, staff, and librarians value but that could be implemented in a more satisfactory way. The authors conclude that their organization, the Data Curation Network, has an opportunity to improve data curation services or to offer new or expanded services.

Abstract:
Abstract For more than 20 years, family caregivers have been supported through the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) of the Older Americans Act (Title IIIE). The NFCSP provides information to caregivers about available services; assistance in gaining access to services; counseling, support groups and caregiver training; respite care; and supplemental services. In the 2019 National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants, 1,909 NFCSP caregivers were asked “What recommendations do you have for improving the service?” The resulting 748 open-ended responses were thematically coded. The thematic analysis yielded six major themes: Additional Resources, Staffing, Communication, Care Coordination, Quality of Services, and Eligibility. Sub-themes were identified for Additional Resources and Staffing. The most common sub-themes for Additional Resources were requests for more help or services (e.g., grocery shopping), increased funding or financial assistance, and more service hours (e.g., overnight or holiday care). The most common sub-theme for Staffing was the need for consistent staffing due to high turnover of staff. Chi-Squared tests and Fisher’s Exact tests indicated that there were no significant associations between any of the recommendation themes and the gender of the caregiver, employment status of the caregiver, or whether the care recipient has Alzheimer’s or dementia. Many of the themes align with results from a recent RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council Report. Recommendations from both sets of findings indicate ways that programs, services, and policies can be enhanced to support the needs of care recipients and caregivers.

Abstract:
Following the methodology of existential pedagogy, we believe that a person's upbringing should proceed, first of all, from his understanding of freedom, a desire to become what he represents himself, therefore, the most important component of the process of upbringing a free person is the pedagogical support of his self-development. The article reveals the pedagogical possibilities of additional education for children in the formation of a self-developing personality of a child, shows the conditions for creating a subject-oriented educational environment, which consists in ensuring the possibility of developing and implementing an interesting self-development project for students, eventfulness of the educational process, ensuring the formation of a need for self-development through the creation of problem situations associated with the need to overcome, purposeful and systematic use in the educational process of methods and techniques aimed at the formation of moral value orientations. The conditions are disclosed on the example of describing some aspects of the educational activities of the Galaktika Children's and Youth Center for Space Education in the city of Kaluga, the Constellation Center for the Development of Children and Youth Creativity in the city of Kaluga and the Regional Ecological and Biological Center of Students. The article proposes the author's methodology «My ideal», aimed at studying the image of «I-ideal» adolescents aged 11 to 14 years, developed in the context of a reflexive-value approach to pedagogical support of self-development of adolescents in additional education. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the experience of pedagogical support for self-development of adolescents in the system of additional education (on the example of the city of Kaluga), which showed that educational practices of the development of value-semantic and reflexive-regulatory spheres of a teenager's personality have been accumulated in institutions today. Along with this, it is necessary to systematically and technologically approach the implementation of pedagogical support for self-development of adolescents in additional education, aimed at forming the readiness of pupils for existential choice, independent creation and responsible implementation of the project of their own life.

Abstract:
The nonstationary loading of a mechanical system consisting of a rectangular elastic isotropic plate and an additional viscoelastic support is investigated. The main attention is devoted to taking into account the mass and inertial characteristics of the additional viscoelastic support during modeling. As the main object, to which an additional support is attached, a plate of medium thickness within the framework of Timoshenko's hypotheses is considered. Since the focus of the paper is on the influence of the additional support, the plate itself is assumed to be hinged for simplicity of its model. We point out that the results presented are applicable to other objects that have additional supports (beams, plates and shells, which can have different supports along the contour and different shapes in plan). Nonstationary deformation is caused by the application of an external transverse disturbing load to the plate. The influence of the additional support on the deformation of the plate is replaced by the application of an unknown additional variable concentrated force, which, in fact, is the reaction of interaction between the plate and the additional support. The determination of this unknown reaction is reduced to solving the first kind Volterra integral equation. In this work, the main analytical relations for obtaining integral equations or their systems are derived, and an algorithm for their solving is presented. The results of calculations for specific numerical values are described. Moreover, the effect of an additional viscoelastic support on the plate is considered, both with and without taking into account the mass and inertial characteristics of the support. It is shown that for small masses the effect is practically absent, which can serve as an indirect proof of the correctness of the model obtained. As the main conclusion, it can be pointed out that the mass and inertial characteristics of the additional viscoelastic support have a noticeable effect on the vibration process, on both the amplitude and phase characteristics.

Abstract:
Modeling additional supports that affect the non-stationary deformation of lamellar structural elements is associated with a number of idealizations and assumptions. Many sources describe the deformation of supported structural elements using absolutely rigid additional supports or stiffeners. In reality, additional supports have viscoelastic properties (viscous and elastic components). When studying non-stationary vibrations, one should also take into account the mass-inertial properties of additional supports. Goal. The goal of the work is: 1) refinement of the existing mathematical model of an additional viscoelastic support by taking into account the influence of its mass-inertial characteristics; 2) study of the influence of these characteristics on the non-stationary deformation of a rectangular plate. Methodology. The non-stationary deformation of beams or plates is described by systems of partial differential equations. For these objects, good results are given by models based on the hypotheses of S.P. Timoshenko, taking into account the inertia of rotation and shear. Such systems of equations can be solved by expanding the sought functions (displacements and angles of rotation) in the corresponding series and using the direct and inverse integral Laplace transform. The determination of the unknown reaction of the additional viscoelastic support, taking into account its mass-inertial characteristics, is carried out on the basis of solving the Volterra integral equations. Results. In this work, an analytical and numerical solution in a general form is obtained, which makes it possible to determine the dependence of the change in time of reaction between the plate and the additional support for various parameters of the mechanical system. Originality. The solution to this problem is based on the further development by the authors of an approach to modeling additional supports in the form of additional unknown non-stationary loads, which are determined from the analysis of Volterra integral equations. Practical value. Examples of calculations for the considered mechanical system at three different values of mass are given. It is shown that the mass-inertial characteristics of the additional support cause a noticeable effect on the oscillatory process, and the changes concern both amplitude and phase characteristics.

Abstract:
IntroductionDecision-making regarding an open or a closed fluid waste management system (FWMS) in the planning of thirty operating rooms (ORs) of a new hospital at the CHU de Québec-Université-Laval was an opportunity to explore additional capabilities in health technology assessment (HTA) to support evidence-based planning.MethodsIssues related to FWMSs in ORs were assessed from multiple data sources including: (i) systematic review in indexed databased and grey literature, (ii) waste management laws and regulations, (iii) local registry of reported incidents/accidents, (iv) occupational health and safety database, (v) electronic patient records (EPRs), (vi) field evaluation of two closed FWMSs, (vii) costs, and (viii) survey on FWMSs in ORs of other Quebec hospitals.ResultsClosed FWMSs in ORs could reduce health care professional exposure to blood and body fluids (BBF) according to two low-quality studies. Cases of occupational and patient exposure to BBF with closed FWMSs, some of which had severe issues, were reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Depending on the volume, discharge of BBF to the sanitary sewer may be authorized upon the approval of the competent municipal authorities. Compared to an open system, a closed FWMS has the potential to reduce manipulation of canisters during the cases because of large canister capacity (24 L). However, local data showed that BBF and irrigation fluid amounts in ORs are <2 L in 84 percent of cases and >2 L in a minority of surgeries, whereas a closed FWMS is associated with higher costs for BBF volumes <12 L. Other issues were observed during field evaluation (e.g., occupational noise). Closed FWMS implementation in other hospitals was very limited in the survey.ConclusionsAvailable evidence does not support the widespread use of a closed FWMS. Use of mixed-methods in this particular HTA allowed to assist decision makers on the choice of an FWMS in the OR planning.

Abstract:
This paper aims to highlight the potential of a FADN additional survey when payment for organic farming is to be calculated in the rural development decision-making process. In fact, the number of organic farms included in the FADN is often too low to provide consistent results. The analysis is based on a direct survey conducted on a larger number of farms than those included in the FADN continuous sample, considering the organic grape-growing farms. The estimate of the appropriate support payments (amount per hectare) is based on the gross margin methodology which allows additional costs and income foregone at micro-level to be highlighted. The method uses the partial balance sheet of a single crop processing to compare costs and revenues of organic and conventional grape-growing farms and considering both certification and transaction costs.
