Abstract:
Images are widely used in engineering. Unfortunately, ultrasound images are mainly degraded by an intrinsic noise called speckle. Therefore, de-speckling is a critical preprocessing step. Therefore, a robust despeckling method and accurate evaluation of images are suggested. We suggest three phases and a three-step denoising filter. In the first phase, the coefficients of variation are computed from the noisy image. The second phase is a three-step denoising filter. The first step is denoising of extreme levels of homogeneous regions, based on fuzzy homogeneous regions. The second step is a proposed adaptive bilateral filter (ABF). The ABF helps for better denoising based on the three regions which are edge, detail and homogeneous regions. The next step, a weight, is applied to the ABF. This step is for isolated noise denoising. Next, in the third phase, the output image is evaluated by the fuzzy logic approach. The proposed method is compared with other filters in the literature. The experimental outcomes show that the proposed method has better performance than the other filters. That proposed denoising algorithm is able to preserve image details and edges when compared with other denoising methods.

Abstract:
In this paper, a novel denoising method based on wavelet, extended adaptive Wiener filter and the bilateral filter is proposed for digital images. Production of mode is accomplished by the genetic algorithm. The proposed extended adaptive Wiener filter has been developed from the adaptive Wiener filter. First, the genetic algorithm suggest some hybrid models. The attributes of images, including peak signal to noise ratio, signal to noise ratio and image quality assessment are studied. Then, in order to evaluate the model, the values of attributes are sent to the Fuzzy deduction system. Simulations and evaluations mentioned in this paper are accomplished on some standard images such as Lena, boy, fruit, mandrill, Barbara, butterfly, and boat. Next, weaker models are omitted by studying of the various models. Establishment of new generations performs in a form that a generation emendation is carried out, and final model has a more optimum quality compared to each two filters in order to obviate the noise. At the end, the results of this system are studied so that a comprehensive model with the best performance is to be found. Experiments show that the proposed method has better performance than wavelet, bilateral, Butterworth, and some other filters.

Abstract:
In the early days of computer graphics, research was mainly driven by the goal to create realistic synthetic imagery. By contrast, non-photorealistic computer graphics, established as its own branch of computer graphics in the early 1990s, is mainly motivated by concepts and principles found in traditional art forms, such as painting, illustration, and graphic design, and it investigates concepts and techniques that abstract from reality using expressive, stylized, or illustrative rendering techniques. This thesis focuses on the artistic stylization of two-dimensional content and presents several novel automatic techniques for the creation of simplified stylistic illustrations from color images, video, and 3D renderings. Primary innovation of these novel techniques is that they utilize the smooth structure tensor as a simple and efficient way to obtain information about the local structure of an image. More specifically, this thesis contributes to knowledge in this field in the following ways. First, a comprehensive review of the structure tensor is provided. In particular, different methods for integrating the minor eigenvector field of the smoothed structure tensor are developed, and the superiority of the smoothed structure tensor over the popular edge tangent flow is demonstrated. Second, separable implementations of the popular bilateral and difference of Gaussians filters that adapt to the local structure are presented. These filters avoid artifacts while being computationally highly efficient. Taken together, both provide an effective way to create a cartoon-style effect. Third, a generalization of the Kuwahara filter is presented that avoids artifacts by adapting the shape, scale, and orientation of the filter to the local structure. This causes directional image features to be better preserved and emphasized, resulting in overall sharper edges and a more feature-abiding painterly effect. In addition to the single-scale variant, a multi-scale variant is presented, which is capable of performing a highly aggressive abstraction. Fourth, a technique that builds upon the idea of combining flow-guided smoothing with shock filtering is presented, allowing for an aggressive exaggeration and an emphasis of directional image features. All presented techniques are suitable for temporally coherent per-frame filtering of video or dynamic 3D renderings, without requiring expensive extra processing, such as optical flow. Moreover, they can be efficiently implemented to process content in real-time on a GPU.

In this thesis, we describe a different implementation for in loop filtering method for 3D-HEVC. First we propose the use of adaptive loop filtering (ALF) technique for 3D-HEVC standard in-loop filtering. This filter uses Wiener-based method to minimize the Mean Squared Error between filtered pixel and original pixels. The performance of adaptive loop filter in picture based level is evaluated. Results show up to of 0.2 dB PSNR improvement in Luminance component for the texture and 2.1 dB for the depth. In addition, we obtain up to 0.1 dB improvement in Chrominance component for the texture view after applying this filter in picture based filtering. Moreover, a design of an in-loop filtering with Fast Bilateral Filter for 3D-HEVC standard is proposed. Bilateral filter is a filter that smoothes an image while preserving strong edges and it can remove the artifacts in an image. Performance of the bilateral filter in picture based level for 3D-HEVC is evaluated. Test model HTM- 6.2 is used to demonstrate the results. Results show up to of 20 percent of reduction in processing time of 3D-HEVC with less than affecting PSNR of the encoded 3D video using Fast Bilateral Filter.

When bilateral filter smoothes images with highly corrupted noise by using small-scale parameters, a large amount of noise cannot be removed. Conversely, if large-scale parameters are used, the edges in images will become blurred. In this thesis, we propose a new adaptive filtering method based on content analysis. The method partitions images into background and edge, and then uses bilateral filter to smooth images with different scales to improve visual results. We first detect the edges in an image, and then convert the grayscale image to binary image by binarization processing. Since human is more sensitive to noise than the edges, the background is smoothed with large-scale parameter and the edges are smoothed with small-scale parameter. In this way, noises in edges and background can be eliminated separately. Experimental results show that our method smoothes images while preserving edges even the image was highly corrupted by noise, and achieves better results than that of the bilateral filter.

Due to many known or unknown factors, the most important problem encountered is the presence of the image noise during the acquisition procedure-no matter what nature or medical images and the interference is also very difficult to avoid. Therefore, many image denoising algorithms have been proposed to address the problem in the past decades. Among them, the bilateral filter receives much attention since it achieves not only excellent performance but also low complexity. The bilateral filter considers the spatial and the intensity relation simultaneously. Due to the simplicity in implementation, the bilateral filter has been widely used in many image denoising applications. In our work, we will discuss the structure of bilateral filter in detail, and then propose adaptive scheme to adjust the filter parameters. According to the simulation result, the proposed method is with higher performance than that of convention bilateral filter not only reducing noise but also visual quality for both nature images and medical images.

The social media has been gaining popularity due to the popularity of internet and mobile devices, recently. Many people used to using mobile devices to take pictures and film videos in daily life. Also, they are uploading to the social media to share to others immediately. Then, a large number of applications of face beautification have already hit the store shelves. The primary goal of this thesis is to make the system of adaptive face beautification to achieve the goal of facial beautification without doing any adjustment of parameters. The proposed system of facial beautification is composed of three main parts: pre-treatment, skin smoothing and histogram analysis. In the pre-processing phase, the YCbCr color to change the transition of space is used firstly. Then, the skin color segmentation to find the human skin color parts is conducted. Finally, the median filter to remove the noise is applied. In the skin smoothing phase, using the bilateral filter on the basis are preserved to make the face smooth. This method also keeps the facial features effectively. Finally, the histogram analysis is used to find the most suitable data for the bilateral filter smooth weight. The adaptive gradations to adjusting the whole image and color is developed and verified. The adaptive facial beautification is finished according the methods in this thesis.

Super-resolution is a technique majoring to restore the lost information when image scaling, such like the edge blurry in image scaling up, or it cannot describe the original object details in low-resolution image, and it will cause the quality decrease when image scaling. To reach the goal of light-weight Super-resolution, this research is major to reconstruct the image details and reducing the impact on image quality of image scaling without increasing excess computational cost. Based on conventional image interpolation scheme, the proposed technique utilizes the high frequency component of the image generated by the bilateral filter to compensate the detail distortion during scaling. By analysis the image standard deviation and local gradient, the proposed algorism redefines the bilateral filter with range filter and noise reduction filter, it will improve the characteristic of object details when image scaling and Simultaneously improve the image quality by noise reduction. In addition to improving the image quality, the research also focused on reducing the computational complexity and hardware cost. We are devoted to implement the hardware of real-time applications with line buffer-based algorithm.

Abstract:
Most of the existing infrared imaging systems employ the scheme of FPGA/FPGA+DSP with numerous peripheral circuits, which leads to complex hardware architecture, limited system versatility, and low computing performance. It has become an intriguing technical problem worldwide to simplify the system structure while improving the imaging performance. In this paper, we present a novel real-time infrared imaging system based on the Rockchip’s RV1108 visual processing SoC (system on chip). Moreover, to address the problem of low contrast and dim details in infrared images with a high dynamic range, an adaptive contrast enhancement method based on bilateral filter is proposed and implemented on the system. First, the infrared image is divided into a base layer and a detail layer through bilateral filter, then the base layer is compressed by an adaptive bi-plateau histogram equalization algorithm, and finally a linear-weighted method is used to integrate the detail layer to obtain the image with enhanced details. The experimental results indicate that compared with traditional algorithms, our method can effectively improve the overall contrast of the image, while effectively retaining the image details without noise magnification. For an image of 320*240 pixels, the real-time processing rate of the system is 68 frames/s. The system has the characteristics of simplified structure, perceptive image details, and high computing performance.
