Abstract:
Business process analysis and integration are key endeavours for today's enterprises. Recently, Web services have been widely adopted for the implementation and integration of business processes within and across enterprises. In this dissertation, we investigate the problem of enabling the analysis of service interactions, in today's enterprises, in the context of business process executions, and that of service integration. Our study shows that only fraction of interactions in the enterprise are supported by process-aware systems. However, enabling above-mentioned analyses requires: (i) a model of the underlying business process to be used as a reference for the analysis, and (ii) the ability to correlate events generated during service interactions into process instances. We refer to a process model and the corresponding process instances as a "process view". We propose the concept of process space to refer to all process related information sources in the enterprise, over which various process views are defined. We propose the design and development of a system called "process space discovery system" (PSDS) for discovering process views in a process space. We introduce novel approaches for the correlation of events into process instances, focusing on the public processes of Web services (business protocols), and also for the discovery of the business protocol models from the process instances of a process view. Analysis of service integration approaches shows that while standardisation in Web services simplifies the integration in the communication level, at the higher levels of abstractions (e.g., services interfaces and protocol models) services are still open to heterogeneities. We characterise the mismatches between service interfaces and protocol specifications and introduce "mismatch patterns" to represent them. A mismatch pattern also includes an adapter template that aims at the resolution of the captured mismatch. We also propose semi-automated approaches for identifying the mismatches between interface and protocol specifications of two services. The proposed approaches have been implemented in prototype tools, and experimentally validated on synthetic and real-world datasets. The discovered process views, using PSDS, can be used to perform various analyses in an enterprise, and the proposed adaptation approach facilitates the adoption of Web services in business process integration.

Abstract:
One of the most important factors of the prosperity in each company is people -- its employees. It is well known, that when the employees are unsatisfied, they don't use so much effort in their work or in a worse case they loose interest to stay in the company and they start to seek for another one. Remarkable influence on stabilization of employees in a company certainly has their successful adaptation to the new employment. This diploma work focuses on an analysis of the adapting process in the company Siemens Ltd. Using a questionnaire there were inefficient components of the contemporary programme for adaptation of new employees discovered and recommendations for the management of Siemens Ltd. were proposed.

Zakaria, Gaguk. "Cascade RLS with Subsection Adaptation." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/26295.

Full text
Abstract:
Speech coding or speech compression is one of the important aspects of speech communications nowadays. By coding the speech, the speed needed to transmit the digitized speech, called the bit rate, can be reduced. This means that for a certain speech communications channel, the lower the bit rate of the speech coding, the more communicating parties can be carried on that channel. This research has as its main application the extraction of the parameters of human speech for speech coding purposes. We propose an RLS-based cascade adaptive filter structure that can significantly reduce the computational effort required by the RLS algorithm for inverse filtering types of applications. We named it the Cascade RLS with Subsection Adaptation (CRLS-SA) algorithm. The reduction in computational effort comes from the fact that, for inverse filtering applications, the gradients of each section in the cascade are almost uncorrelated with the gradients in other sections. Hence, the gradient autocorrelation matrix is assumed to be block diagonal. Since we use a second order filter for each section, the computation of the adaptation involves only the 2x2- gradient autocorrelation matrix for that section, while still being based on a global minimization criterion. The gradient signal of a section itself is defined as the derivative of the overall output error with respect to the coefficients of the particular section, which can be computed efficiently by passing the overall output of the cascade to a filter with coefficients that are derived from the coefficients of that section. The computational effort of the CRLS-SA algorithm is approximately 20*L*N/2, where L is the data record length and N is the order of the filter. We analyze the convergence rate of the CRLS-SA algorithm based on the convergence time constant concept, which is the ratio of the condition number and the sensitivity. The CRLS- SA structure is shown to satisfy the DeBrunner-Beex conjecture which says that a structure with a smaller convergence time constant converges faster than a structure with a larger convergence time constant. We show that CRLS-SA converges faster than the Direct Form RLS (DFRLS) algorithm and that its convergence time constant is lower than that of the direct form. The convergence behavior is verified by looking at how fast the estimated system approaches the true system. Here we use the Itakura distance as the measure of closeness between the estimated and the true system. We show that the Itakura distance associated with the CRLS-SA algorithm approaches zero faster than that associated with the direct form RLS algorithm. The CRLS-SA algorithm is applied in this dissertation to general linear prediction, to the direct adaptive computation of the LSF and their representation in quantized form using a split vector quantization (VQ) approach, and to the detection and tracking of the frequencies in signals consisting of multiple sinusoids in noise.

Abstract:
In skills, as swimming, there has been credit to the success of the consistency of behaviour neglecting the role of flexibility. In this way with the objective of investigating the effect of the modification of the task in the front crawl stroke in individuals with distinct levels of skill we launched from the point that consistency and flexibility complement each other in the skilful motor behaviour. Children (42), with an average age of 8.7 with the skill of swimming crawl participated in the experiment. Using the analysis instrument of proficiency level of the crawl style, two groups of 15 subjects each, with distinct levels of ability were formed. Measures of variant and invariant aspects were used to analyze the stroke of drifting 30 meters in three velocities. According to the results the swimmers maintained the temporal organization of the stroke (TOS) in three experimental conditions; the more skilful group presented the more stable TOS; and the alterations of the performance were made exclusively from the adjustments of the variant aspects of the strokes. Due to the results it was concluded that the acquisition of swimming seen as a continuous process, involves the formation of mental representations that assure not only consistency (invariant aspects) but also the flexibility (variaant aspects) of the stroke and that its complexity is associated to the level of skill in the swimmers.

Abstract:
Abstract Artificial Life is an interdisciplinary scientific and engineering enterprise investigating the fundamental properties of living systems through the simulation and synthesis of life-like processes in artificial media. One of the avenues of investigation is autonomous robots and agents. Mimicking of the growth and adaptation of a biological neural circuit in an artificial medium is a challenging task owing to our limited knowledge of the complex process taking place in a living organism. By combining several developmental mechanisms, including the chemical, mechanical, genetic, and electrical, researchers have succeeded in developing networks with interesting topology, morphology, and function within Artificial Computational Chemistry. However, most of these approaches still fail to create neural circuits able to solve real problems in perception and robot control. In this thesis a phenomenological developmental model called a Stochastic Evolutionary Neuron Migration Process (SENMP) is proposed. Employing a spatial encoding scheme with lateral interaction of neurons for artificial neural networks, which represent candidate solutions within a neural network ensemble, neurons of the ensemble form problem-specific spatial patterns with the desired dynamics as they migrate under the selective pressure. The approach is applied to gain new insights into development, adaptation and plasticity in neural networks and to evolve purposeful behaviors for mobile robots. In addition, the approach is used to study the relationship of spatial patterns, composed of interacting entities, and their dynamics. The feasibility and advantages of the approach are demonstrated by evolving neural controllers for solving a non-Markovian double pole balancing problem and by evolving controllers that exhibit navigation behavior for simulated and real mobile robots in complex environments. Preliminary results regarding the behavior of the adapting neural network ensemble are also shown and, particularly, a phenomenon exhibiting Hebbian-like dynamics. This thesis is a step toward a long range goal that aims to create an intelligent robot that is capable of learning complex skills and adapts rapidly to environmental changes.

Sozio, John Charles. "Intelligent Parameter Adaptation for Chemical Processes." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/34089.

Full text
Abstract:
Reducing the operating costs of chemical processes is very beneficial in decreasing a company's bottom line numbers. Since chemical processes are usually run in steady-state for long periods of time, saving a few dollars an hour can have significant long term effects. However, the complexity involved in most chemical processes from nonlinear dynamics makes them difficult processes to optimize. A nonlinear, open-loop unstable system, called the Tennessee Eastman Chemical Process Control Problem, is used as a test-bed problem for minimization routines. A decentralized controller is first developed that stabilizes the plant to set point changes and disturbances. Subsequently, a genetic algorithm calculates input parameters of the decentralized controller for minimum operating cost performance. Genetic algorithms use a directed search method based on the evolutionary principle of "survival of the fittest". They are powerful global optimization tools; however, they are typically computationally expensive and have long convergence times. To decrease the convergence time and avoid premature convergence to a local minimum solution, an auxiliary fuzzy logic controller was used to adapt the parameters of the genetic algorithm. The controller manipulates the input and output data through a set of linguistic IF-THEN rules to respond in a manner similar to human reasoning. The combination of a supervisory fuzzy controller and a genetic algorithm leads to near-optimum operating costs for a dynamically modeled chemical process.

Abstract:
In a world that is increasingly urbanised, cities are recognised as critical sites for tackling problems of climate change, both by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the impacts of changing climate conditions. Unlike climate change mitigation, adaptation does not have one clear, commonly agreed collective goal. Governing and making decisions on climate adaptation in cities entails contestation over knowledge, values and preferences. Currently, the two dominant conceptualisations of adaptation are as cycles or pathways. Do these models adequately theorise what can be empirically observed in cities as to how climate adaptation is undertaken? Most research on urban climate adaptation emanates from the Global North, where political, scientific, economic and administrative systems are well established and well resourced. There is a dearth of empirical research from cities of the Global South contributing to the development of urban climate adaptation theory. This thesis contributes to addressing this gap in two ways. Firstly, by drawing on both conceptual and methodological resources from the field of organisational studies, notably the streams and rounds models of decision making, organisational ethnography and processual case research. Secondly, by conducting empirical case study research on three processes of city scale climate adaptation in Cape Town, South Africa, a growing city facing many development challenges where the local government began addressing climate adaptation over ten years ago. The three adaptation processes studied are: the preparation and adoption of city-wide sectoral climate adaptation plans; the creation of a City Development Strategy with climate resilience as a core goal; and the inclusion of climate change projections into stormwater masterplans. Data were gathered through interviews, participant observation, focus groups and document review, through embedded research within a formal knowledge co-production partnership between the University of Cape Town and the City of Cape Town government. Processual analysis and applied thematic analysis were used to test models of adaptation and decision making against data from the three case studies. The findings suggest that both the cycles and pathways models of climate adaptation inadequately represent the contested and contingent nature of decision making that prevail within the governance systems of cities such as Cape Town. Based on ethnographic knowledge of how Cape Town's local government undertakes climate adaptation, it is argued that the rounds model of decision making provides conceptual tools to better understand and represent how the process of climate adaptation in cities is undertaken; tools that can be used to enhance the pathways model. The study concludes that progress in adapting cities to a changing climate is currently constrained by both the problems and potential solutions or interventions being too technical for most politicians to deal with and prioritize and too political for most technical and administrative officials to design and implement. It calls for urban climate adaptation to be understood as distributed across a multitude of actors pursuing concurrent, discontinuous processes, and thereby focus needs to be on fostering collaboration and coordination, rather than fixating on single actors, policies, plans or projects.

Heirani, Moghaddam Sarvenaz. "Assessing and Defining Explicit Processes in Visuomotor Adaptation." Thesis, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/41099.

Full text
Abstract:
The Process Dissociation Procedure (PDP) and Verbal Report Framework (VRF) have demonstrated that both explicit (Explicit Adaptation, EA) and implicit processes (Implicit Adaptation, IA) contribute to visuomotor adaptation. However, the definition of EA is inconsistent across the two paradigms, such that the PDP refers to EA as reflecting one’s knowledge regarding how they have to reach in the novel visuomotor environment, while the VRF refers to EA as reflecting pre-planned aiming strategies. The objective of the current experiment was to compare EA as assessed via the PDP and VRF and hence provide insight into if they are assessing similar explicit processes. Sixty-one participants were evenly divided into three groups (PDP, VRF and VRF-No Cursor) and trained to reach in a virtual environment with an aligned cursor (1 block of 45 trials) and then a cursor rotated 40° clockwise (CW) relative to hand motion (3 blocks of 45 trials). EA and IA were assessed immediately following each block of rotated reach training trials, and again 5-minutes later. In the assessment trials, the PDP group reached while using any learned strategy (EA+IA), or while not engaging in a strategy (IA) and the VRF group reported their planned aiming direction by picking a number from an array of numbers surrounding the target (EA), before reaching to the target (EA+IA) with visual feedback. The VRF-No Cursor group completed the same assessment trials as the VRF group, but no visual feedback was presented during assessment of EA and IA. Following this, participants completed a post-experiment questionnaire and a drawing task to assess their awareness of the visuomotor rotation and changes in their reaches respectively. We found that all groups adapted their reaches to the 40° CW cursor rotation. As well, averaged across participants, the magnitude and retention of EA and IA were similar between the PDP and VRF groups. However, the magnitude of EA established via the VRF was not related to participants’ post-experiment awareness of the visuomotor distortion and how they had changed their reaches, as observed in the PDP and VRF No-Cursor groups. Together, these results indicate that, while the PDP and VRF suggest similar contributions of EA and IA to visuomotor adaptation, the methods of assessment engage different explicit processes. EA assessed within the VRF does not reflect one’s awareness of the visuomotor distortion at the end of the experiment or how they changed their reaches.

Tabatabaei, Ardekani Iman. "Stability analysis of adaptation process in FxLMS-based active noise control." Thesis, University of Auckland, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/12430.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the Filtered-x Least Mean Square (FxLMS) adaptation algorithm and its applications in Active Noise Control (ANC). Generally, this algorithm is used in system identification problems in which a physical channel, called the secondary path, follows the adaptive filter. The FxLMS algorithm compensates for the secondary path effect by filtering the input signal (training data sequence) using an available estimate of the secondary path, called the secondary path model. However, this filtering causes the analytical model of the adaptation process to become highly complex. Because of this complexity, this model has to be simplified when it is desired to derive closed-form expressions for formulating different behaviours of the adaptation process. Usually, this simplification has been carried out by using unrealistic assumptions of pure delay secondary paths, broad-band acoustic noise, and perfect secondary path models. The first contribution of this thesis is the derivation of a set of closed-from mathematical expressions for formulating behaviours of FxLMS-based ANC systems in steady-state and transient conditions. This derivation is carried out without using any simplifying assumption regarding the secondary path. Consequently, the obtained expressions extend the available knowledge on FxLMS-based ANC systems. The second contribution is formulating influences of acoustic noise band-width on the newly-derived expressions. In the analysis of ANC systems with stochastic noise, it is usual to assume a broad-band acoustic noise with a flat frequency spectrum (which is usually referred to as a white signal), in order to avoid mathematical complexity. However, even if the acoustic noise has a flat spectrum over a wide frequency range, the signal picked up and fed to the ANC system is required to be processed with a sampling frequency higher than the maximum frequency of the acoustic noise. For this reason, a realistic noise signal can only have a flat spectrum over a limited band-width. The third contribution is investigating influences of secondary path models on the newly-derived expressions. Usually, it is acceptable to assume a perfectly-accurate secondary path model; however, in order to generalise the obtained closed-form expressions, this assumption is also removed in this thesis. Consequently, the final closed-form expressions, proposed in this thesis, can apply to a relatively general case with an arbitrary secondary path, an acoustic noise with an arbitrary band-width, and an arbitrary (imperfect) secondary path model. Another contribution of this thesis is determining trajectories of the poles of the FxLMS adaptation process in the z-plane. This investigation leads to find the FxLMS adaptation process root locus. It is shown that the dominant pole of this locus always locates on a certain branch with a typical trajectory in the z-plane. A mechanism for localising this pole is then proposed in this thesis, resulting in a novel ANC algorithm, called the Filtered Weight FxLMS. In addition to several numerical analyses and computer simulations, a FPGA-based ANC setup, developed for this research, is used to study the validity of the theoretical results obtained in this thesis. This setup is developed by using a flexible FPGA programming structure which can be used for the implementation of other ANC algorithms. Different experiments with this setup confirms the validity of the theoretical results proposed in this thesis.

Abstract:
This thesis considers the entire automated speech recognition process and presents a standardised approach to LVCSR experimentation with HMMs. It also discusses various approaches to speaker adaptation such as MLLR and multiscale, and presents experimental results for cross-task speaker adaptation. An analysis of training parameters and data sufficiency for reasonable system performance estimates are also included. It is found that Maximum Likelihood Linear Regression (MLLR) supervised adaptation can result in 6% reduction (absolute) in word error rate given only one minute of adaptation data, as compared with an unadapted model set trained on a different task. The unadapted system performed at 24% WER and the adapted system at 18% WER. This is achieved with only 4 to 7 adaptation classes per speaker, as generated from a regression tree.

Full text
Abstract:
The debate of whether to standardise or to custom-tailor marketing strategies and tactics in international markets has continued to trouble academics and practitioners alike and has produced many and varied opinions. Supporters of global standardisation argue that a single marketing strategy and a standardised marketing mix (tactics) should be used in international markets to minimise total costs and promote a global corporate image. In contrast, advocates of international adaptation debate that marketing in overseas markets should be adapted to fit the unique dimensions of each local market. Opposing the two polarised positions, literature quoting practical evidence suggests that companies make contingency choices which relate to key determinants in each circumstance. This doctoral research focuses on the tactical level. It hypothesises that multinational companies' tactical behaviour is integrated as a result of several reasons `pulling' it towards the one or the other side of the continuum. Equally, it proposes that such behaviour and the importance of reasons `pulling' it, could be significantly different based on nine factors. Consequently, this research seeks to discover the unique way in which the reasons and factors interact with international marketing tactics in any given `country and company situation'. A review of the literature (chapters two and three) allowed the development of a framework (chapter three) that presents the main perspectives of the different schools of thought towards the processeso f adaptation,s tandardisationa nd integration of marketing tactics. Its formulation made possible two main stages in this research: it firstly allowed the researcher to formulate the secondary hypotheses, and secondly it permitted the design of a questionnaire to test these hypotheses and carry out the necessary empirical research and collection of primary data. Based on the Positivist philosophy, the research design (chapter four) involved a questionnaire survey on the 500 biggest UK multinational companies across five industrial sectors. The analysis (chapters five and six) was mainly quantitative and was undertaken with S. P. S. S. and Excel statistical packages. It utilised chi-square (x2) and analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical tests. Research results identified that UK multinational companies do not solely utilise adaptation or standardisation across their marketing mix elements. When facing the dilemma of implementing marketing tactics, the researched UK multinational companies were found to integrate the processes of adaptation and standardisation. Both processes co-exist and multinational companies are striking to find a balance. This research identified that the level of integration is dependent upon a consideration of the relationship between the reasons and elements identified, and an understanding of how these are affected by a number of factors. Followed the results of the analysis, this thesis proposes a new modelling approach, the AdaptStand Process (chapter seven), which outlines different steps to be undertaken by multinational companies towards identifying the degree of integration across the marketing mix elements. Consequently, this thesis aims to enlarge the existing body of knowledge in the subject area and guide marketing directors acid managers in deciding on marketing tactics when competing in the international marketing arena.

Abstract:
Generally, High Ability or Gifted individuals show spontaneous and natural performance in one or more domains. Thus, a High Ability student is creative, 2/2 curious and motivated to learn new things. Despite this behaviour, these students may lose interest in their learning process especially when their physical and emotional development is different from their intellectual development (desynchronises). The main objective of this thesis is to help motivate High Ability students into their learning process make them active participants in the creation of their learning material. To achieve this we work three different areas together: High Abilities, Co Creation and Adaptation. With this union we designed a learning material co creation process adapted to High Ability student’s characteristics. In this process the student, his/her family and teacher jointly participate in the learning material co creation, which can be applied in his/her learning process
Full text
Abstract:
During the preparation of The Gospel According to Matthew (1964), Pier Pasolini stated in a letter to theologian Lucio Caruso that he did not want to adapt the biblical text, but wished to “translate [it] faithfully into images”. To adapt a literary work onto the big screen usually consists in extracting out of it a “content” from which a script can then be developed. But Pasolini’s intent was to take us back to the text of the gospel, not to the story of Christ – hence his endeavour to translate the text’s poetry by means of cinema. The concept of translation invoked by Pasolini denotes a certain mode of relationship to a given work. Could this mode pertain to other films derived from written sources? This is what will be investigated in this thesis, by bringing together the experience of The Gospel According to Matthew and two other approaches: on the one hand, the works by Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub based on various texts; on the other hand, the relationship between Béla Tarr’s cinema and László Krasznahorkai’s writings. Through these processes emerges the idea of a possible alteration of the film’s form by the text. From the rule of translation, which underlies most of the theories of adaptation, we move to the rule of reprise and metamorphosis. I will also try to demonstrate that this concept of traduction can shed light on some aspects of the practice of filmmaking. The viewing of a film is a continuous enunciation where the language is being experienced. Therefore, to consider cinema as a translative space is to perceive it as a place where positions can be dealt anew and utterances reshaped. This translative poetics is actually a politics, and one which affects our conception of artistic creation

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether levels of stabilization achieved by the end of the acquisition process and performance channels modify the probability of occurrence of one of the two processes involved in the increase of complexity in motor learning - modularization and adaptation - when new components are inserted into the task already learned, and their influence on the learning of the task with new components. One hundred and fifty-three subjects of both sexes, between 10 and 13 years of age, performed a serial tracking task of luminous stimuli. The experiment consisted of two phases: stabilization and adaptation. Three groups were formed according to performance criteria to be achieved in the stabilization phase: three consecutive series of correct responses (group G_3C), a series of antecipatory responses (G_1A group) and three series of anticipatory responses (group G_3A) in a task with five stimuli. The adaptation phase, the same for all groups, took place until the achievement of a series of anticipatory responses in a task with six stimuli. The results showed the occurrence of both processes: adaptive and modularization, in 84% and 16% of the subjects, respectively. The subjects of G_1A and G_3A were afterwards divided into subgroups based on the interindividual stability of intra-individual change in the performance channels during the stabilization phase. Four groups were established: stable in the upper channel, stable in the lower channel, upward moving tendency, and oscillation groups. Based on the results of binary logistic regression analysis it was observed that the stable upper channel subgroup in consistency of the sequence in anticipatory responses is four times more likely to use the process of modularization in relation to the stable lower channel subgroup, when new components are inserted into the task already learned. It was also possible to identify that the subjects who used the process of modularization needed fewer attempts to learn the new task

Abstract:
Adaptive software is a class of software which is able to modify its own internal structure and hence its behavior at runtime in response to changes in its operating environment. Adaptive software development has been an emerging research area of software engineering in the last decade. Many existing approaches use techniques issued from software product lines (SPLs) to develop adaptive software architectures. They propose tools, frameworks or languages to build adaptive software architectures but do not guide developers on the process of using them. Moreover, they suppose that all elements in the SPL specified are available in the architecture for adaptation. Therefore, the adaptive software architecture may embed unnecessary elements (components that will never be used) thus limiting the possible deployment targets. On the other hand, the components replacement at runtime remains a complex task since it must ensure the validity of the new version, in addition to preserving the correct completion of ongoing activities. To cope with these issues, this thesis proposes an adaptive software development process where tasks, roles, and associate artifacts are explicit. The process aims at specifying the necessary information for building adaptive software architectures. The result of such process is an adaptive software architecture that only contains necessary elements for adaptation. On the other hand, an adaptation mechanism is proposed based on transactions management for ensuring consistent dynamic adaptation. Such adaptation must guarantee the system state and ensure the correct completion of ongoing transactions. In particular, transactional dependencies are specified at design time in the variability model. Then, based on such dependencies, components in the architecture include the necessary mechanisms to manage transactions at runtime consistently

This study proposes an approach to the preservation of the spirit of traditional Chinese architecture and its adaptation to the current context and living style. For this purpose, the rowhouse type which emerged in the past for reasons of economic land use and survived through the moderni~ation has been selected to illustrate this approach. In order to achieve this objective in the actual process of design, a computer application has been developed as a vehicle for communication between various participants. This study is developed into 4 parts: 1. Analysis and Description of Traditional Rowhouse Type: This part introduces the historic context of the traditional rowhouse type and its major character. By the observation and analysis of existing rowhouses in the Taiwan area, certain principles of the type have been founded. 2. Change and New Requirement: This part deals with the change of the family structure and living style during the modernization process in Taiwan and their effect to the dwelling environment. The new existing rowhouse type is also examined to find the new conventions used by current inhabitants in contemporary context. 3. The Development of New Rowhouse Type: In this part, 2 steps are used to apply the principles found earlier to physical design. In the first step, SAR methodology is used as a base to reflect the selected rules on the relevant elements. Using these elements, basic units for the composition of houses are established. The second step uses the rule of "combination" (also generated from the analysis) to construct a layer (from basic units) or a completed rowhouse (from layers). A facade system and a dwelling block example are also developed to illustrate the living environment of the rowhouse type. 4. Computer Application: In this part a proposal for computer system is developed relating to the various levels of decision making and serving the various parties in the design process. A demonstration of the interaction between machine and users is also included.

Abstract:
Modern enterprise organisations rely on dynamic processes. Generally these processes cannot be modelled once and executed repeatedly without change. Enterprise processes may evolve unpredictably according to situations that cannot always be prescribed. However, no mechanism exists to ensure an updated process does not violate any compliance requirements. Typical workflow processes may follow a process definition and execute several thousand instances using a workflow engine without any changes. This is suitable for routine business processes. However, when business processes need flexibility, adaptive features are needed. Updating processes may violate compliance requirements so automatic verification of compliance checking is necessary. The research work presented in this Thesis investigates the problem of current workflow technology in defining, managing and ensuring the specification and execution of business processes that are dynamic in nature, combined with policy standards throughout the process lifycle. The findings from the literature review and the system requirements are used to design the proposed system architecture. Since a two-tier reference process model is not sufficient as a basis for the reference model for an adaptive and compliance workflow management system, a three-tier process model is proposed. The major components of the architecture consist of process models, business rules and plugin modules. This architecture exhibits the concept of user adaptation with structural checks and dynamic adaptation with data-driven checks. A research prototype - Adaptive and Compliance Workflow Management System (ACWfMS) - was developed based on the proposed system architecture to implement core services of the system for testing and evaluation purposes. The ACWfMS enables the development of a workflow management tool to create or update the process models. It automatically validates compliance requirements and, in the case of violations, visual feedback is presented to the user. In addition, the architecture facilitates process migration to manage specific instances with modified definitions. A case study based on the postgraduate research process domain is discussed.

Abstract:
Many relationship-based studies focus on how businesses are maintained and developed. However, little attention focused on individuals as business initiators and the consequent processes. This study will bridge this gap. A theoretical model with two cases will answer two questions    -How individuals initiate business through personal network? -What is the consequent process?   The studies demonstrate that individual do play a very important role when initiating a new business and they set in motion relationship-building processes that change the network structure.   The contribution for research and management is clear. The netentrepruer is a new ‘actor’ and can be useful in future studies of business networks. Management can usefully become conscious of the possibilities they have in studying their network contacts before initiating new businesses. Managers should utilize managing individual’s networks as new competition strategies. This will modify the view of management strategy and also contribute to theory building.
