Rota, Gabriele. "The textual transmission of Cicero's Epistulae ad Brutum, ad Quintum fratrem, and ad Atticum." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2018. https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/277880.

Abstract:
My doctorate is a study of the manuscript transmission of Cicero’s Epistulae ad Atticum: a twenty-book corpus comprising one book Ad M. Brutum, three books Ad Quintum fratrem, sixteen books Ad Atticum and a pseudo-Ciceronian Epistula ad Octauianum. I have made a complete reinspection and partial recollation of the eighty-odd fully extant manuscripts, and reconstructed a new stemma codicum that may be used for both historical and editorial purposes. My thesis consists of four chapters, following the transmission of the corpus of Ad Atticum from the Middle Ages down to the Renaissance and the beginning of printing. In Chapter 1 I discuss the top of the stemma: Petrarch’s (1304–74) rediscovery of these letters in the Chapter Library of Verona in 1345, and the beginning of their dissemination in fifteenth-century Italy, thanks to the Florentine Chancellor Coluccio Salutati (1331–1406) and two humanists of his circle: Niccolò Niccoli (1364–1437) and Leonardo Bruni (c. 1370–1444). Editors of Cicero’s letters believe that the top of the stemma is bipartite, and that bipartition reflects separate strands of mediaeval transmission: I argue against their reconstruction and put forward a new pluripartite stemma. In Chapter 1 I also consider manuscripts independent of the Verona archetype: these witnesses survive only in tiny fragments and scattered readings cited by sixteenth-century critics. In Chapter 2 I study the northern Italian progeny of the Veronese archetype: here too I have significantly improved on the editors’ work, thanks to collation of a larger number of independent manuscripts and a more articulated understanding of the intricate dynamics of contamination affecting this branch. In Chapters 3 and 4 I investigate the Florentine transmission of the corpus of Ad Atticum. In Chapter 3 I study the closer descendants of the copy of the Verona archetype that in 1393 came from Milan to Florence at Salutati’s instigation. In Chapter 4 I focus on the thirty-odd descendants of the manuscript that in 1408 the humanist and Papal secretary Poggio Bracciolini (1380–1459) copied for Cosimo de’ Medici (1389–1464). The comprehensive stemmata that I put forward in Chapters 3 and 4 are completely new, since hitherto there has been no systematic attempt to map the genealogy of Salutati’s manuscript.

Abstract:
Nunc temporis quoque in scholis musicis in omnibus orbis terrarum partibus sitis docetur. Hanc commentatiunculam paravi in usum discipulorum qui capita, ubi Species Contrapuncti duarum vocum enodantur, Latino sermone primigenio atque perlucido legere vellent. During the Baroque Era, a time of quickly-changing musical tastes, Johann Fux wrote a seminal music composition textbook, the Gradus ad Parnassum, that bridges the gap between Renaissance Counterpoint and High Baroque Style. Through the beautifully-written, Latin dialog between a teacher (in the persona of Palestrina) and a student (Fux himself), the author teaches the reader about the history, nomenclature and norms of composition. Today the name Fux is synonymous with Species Counterpoint and his celebrated text, translated into many vernacular languages within years of its first publication, is read in music-theory classrooms around the world. This commentary is prepared for the use of students who wish to read the chapters on two-voice Species Counterpoint in the original, and highly accessible Latin.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis was the production of a solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) through cheap and easily scalable techniques. For doing so the most important step is the production of the bilayer supporting electrode/electrolyte. Therefore a half-cell constituted by a porous La0.8Sr0.2MnO3-Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ (LSM-GDC) anode and a dense Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ (GDC) electrolyte was produced. Tape casting and screen printing were the techniques used for the production of this bilayer. Even if, the typical supporting element for an electrolyzer cells is the cathode, in this study an anode-supported cell was produced in order to assure a better mechanical stability. The supporting anode was produced by tape casting using an innovative sintering method called reactive sintering. With this method the final phase was obtained during a single thermal treatment that included also the organic removal and the final consolidation of the substrate. The electrolytic membrane was produced using either screen printing and tape casting. Anode substrates (of dimensions up to 10x10 cm2) were produced though a careful study of the phase evolution of the anodic reagents powder, the optimization of the tape casting slurry and the thermal treatments of debonding and sintering. The careful study of the sintering profiles of the anodic and electrolytic powders and of the effect of the shaping method on the sintering properties of the electrolyte layers allowed the production of flat half-cell constituted of porous electrode and dense electrolyte, suitable for SOEC application.

Abstract:

In this work, I have studied whether if one can detect AD / HD in preschool. I have read some literature and searched on the Internet. I have also tried to get to interview people who are familiar with this topic, which has not been easy. I have questioned 13 persons if they would participate in an interview, but most have refused because they do not have time. I succeeded anyhow to get three persons, two special educators and a nurse on the BVC. Special Student teachers are working to put the various educational activities in the preschool / school when children are in need of assistance. Children nurse is working with children to look up at the controls as they come in and where they can see if there is something not as it should. The answer I came up with through the literature and interviews is that AD / HD is a neuro-psychiatric disability and is logically divided into three groups that they have to Impulsivity problems, over activity and attention problems. Special Student teachers tell of the symptoms / signs of AD / HD as the first notice are that the children with AD / HD have problems in concentrating in a task. What distinguishes boys from girls is that boys are more hyperactive and ports in more trouble than girls do. Girls are more reclusive and shy and have been easier to become depressed and anxious. It is difficult to detect AD / HD in preschool unless the kids have severe problems with attention, impulsivity and over activity

I also got answer to that one can detect AD / HD if you're looking for it, but it’s not the essential, the important is to support children with AD / HD in the learning and development. Special Student teachers talked a lot of work how to help children in preschool with various educational activities such as solid framework, transparency and daily schedules. They can also work in small groups but that is not always suitable for all children. Then we can bring the children who have problems at the front near the teacher in order to give praise and jacking.
