Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for identifying the need for ecotourism certification within ecotourism and sport tourism (EST) by discussing the overlapping characteristics on the dimensions of EST. Design/methodology/approach – Qualitatively, the Social Exchange Theory was used to discover segments of tourists based on the two dimensions: EST. Findings – The findings discovered four strategic segments (namely; vacation, green, action oriented and active tourists), their related activities, and the level of need for eco certification. Practical implications – EST activities offer a unique opportunity for tourism managers to positively influence conservation in and around communities, protected areas and sport events. Applying and implementing a global eco certification is paramount to attract tourists and enhance credibility of sport tourism. Originality/value – Identification of the four tourists segments and their relative need for certification is the novelty of the study. The labels of the identified tourist segments are: vacation tourist (low on ecotourism and low on sport tourism); green tourist (high on ecotourism and low on sport tourism); action-oriented tourist (high on ecotourism and high on sport tourism); and active tourist (low on ecotourism and high on sport tourism). The certification needs for green and action-oriented tourists are HIGH, for active tourist is MEDIUM, and for vacation tourist is LOW.

Abstract:
The popularity of sports tourism among other types of leisure is growing every year as a result of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, finding ways to motivate, self-development and challenge yourself to overcome internal fears and physical obstacles. Today there are no generally accepted common interpretations of the concepts of sports and sports and health tourism, which is the relevance of our study. There were active discussions among scientists around the world on the formation of the concept of sports tourism. Currently, sports tourism is considered in three aspects. Active sports tourism is a trip for the purpose of direct participation of tourists in sports competitions, and the tourist component plays a secondary role as an additional service. Event (passive) sports tourism is the passive participation of tourists in sports competitions as fans or observers. Cognitive sports tourism, the purpose of which is to visit excursions to sports museums, stadiums, thematic accommodation and catering establishments. Ukrainian and Russian scientists, in particular I. Zorin, V. Kvartalnov, O. Kolotukha, A. Konokh, propagate the idea that sports tourism is a separate sport, which is based on competitions on tourist routes laid in the natural environment and includes overcoming various natural obstacles with the use of special techniques and equipment. However, in the process of internationalization and globalization of tourism education it is very important to find a common ground on the educational component of training specialists in sports tourism and to form an optimal definition in three dimensions: sport, tourism and academic discipline. During our research it was found out that the training of specialists should be carried out in one of three areas: training of specialists (instructors) in sports tourism; training of sports and tourism guides; training of organizers of sports events in the context of event tourism. Currently, the direction of training specialists in the organization of sports events in the format of event tourism remains insufficiently studied in our country. Sports tourism is an integral part of global tourism and now there are two different interpretations of this concept, which are actively discussed in the scientific world: 1) sports tourism as a tourist trip to the destination to participate in sports competitions in any sport; 2) sports tourism as a separate kind of sport. In the perspective of research, the following unresolved issues still remain: the introduction of integration educational processes between the sports event industry and the ability to form tourism products in the relevant field.

Abstract:
Tourism in Croatia is on the turning point of its development. War devastation in Croatia negatively affected tourism. The process of restoration of Croatian tourism should not only renovate the ruined tourist facilities, but it should also overcome the disadvantages of the past development of tourism. One of the important factors of the variety and quality of tourist offer are sports-recreational activities and programmes which provide the possibility of active rest and recreation. In Croatian tourism, the sports-recreational offer has reached a certain level of development, but this offer is primarily oriented towards mass tourism. The policy of the development of Croatian tourism, which is directed towards strengthening of qualitative factors of tourist offer, expresses the need of innovating the sports-recreational offer which will be compatible with the new quality of Croatian tourism. This paper treats tourism and sport as interrelated fields, and emphasizes the factors of their interdependence. A short survey of historical interdependence of tourism and sport is also given in this paper. The role of sport in modern tourism is rather significant, because it becomes one of the essential motives for travelling to certain tourist destinations. The role of sport in tourism is manifested through numerous functions that are common to sport and tourism. These functions are: the health function, educational function, socio-political function and economic functions. Sport and recreation, apart from the fact that they enrich the tourist offer, often become the main motive for travelling to certain tourist destinations. Such trips represent a special selective type of tourism - the sports-recreational tourism. Apart from humanistic functions, sports-recreational tourism is the creator of certain economic values. The economic effects of sport in tourism are realized within tourist organizations, but also outside tourism (sporting equipment industry, building, handicraft trades, trade, etc.). This paper also gives the survey of the achieved economic effects of sport and recreation in Croatian tourism on the basis of several indicators: the number of the realized "sports room/nights", the number of users of sports-recreational services, and the achieved profit from sports-recreational services. These indicators also confirm the thesis that the sports-recreational services are an income-oriented category. The paper concludes with the evaluation of development possibilities of sports-recreational tourism in Croatia.

Abstract:
Concerns with health and wellness are currently a global trend. Consequently, people have increasingly been engaging in some form of regular sports practice in their adult lives. This is evidenced by the rise of markets that are related to the sports sector. One of those market trends is active tourism, which refers to the practice of physical activities in natural environments within a tourist destination. In this context, people travel to certain places, typically with friends or as couples, to engage in sports activities of greater or lesser intensities. This allows for them to disconnect with their daily routines and provides them all of the positive health-related outcomes that are associated with exercising. Therefore, health tourism is also an efficient tool against sedentariness. The present study explores which sports are currently the most popular amongst active tourists, which attributes they value the most when choosing a destination, and what is their expenditure pattern. To this end, a sample of 60 individuals who have engaged in some form of active tourism in Galicia is surveyed. The findings suggest that active tourists are particularly interested in dedicating their discretionary time to travelling and they have a higher daily expenditure within the destination than the average tourist.

Abstract:
AbstractBackground: Sports and recreational tourism are forms of tourism that imply active involvement of tourists in various sports activities during their vacation, and it can be said that the main motive of such a vacation is a sport. Objectives: This research aimed to determine the relationship between sports and recreational activities and tourist satisfaction based on the questionnaire related to the behaviour and satisfaction of tourists during their stay in Montenegro.Methods/Approach: Regression analysis has been conducted in order to assess the interaction between sport-recreational activities and previous experience in Montenegro, and their effect on tourist revisit intention. Results: Empirical results demonstrate the influence of sports and recreational services on tourist satisfaction measured by tourists’ revisit intentions. Distinguishing between sports, and health, spa and wellness facilities and services, the findings indicate that health, spa, and wellness facilities and services have a higher impact on revisit intention than sports activities. In addition, the interaction effect between different sports and recreational activities and previous experience in Montenegro did not provide a more amplified effect on tourist satisfaction. Conclusions: Establishing closer links between workers who provide sports services and those providing other tourist services is one of the main challenges in the future of the development of sports tourism in Montenegro, as one of the most critical aspects that can provide tourist satisfaction. The data study can be used for more efficient and effective decision making and strategy development of sports and recreational activities in the tourism industry.

For the Urals, tourism is characterized by active forms. Strong traditions of sports and amateur tourism live and are transformed into modern forms of active tourism. The Ural regions are taking steps to arrange territories for active tourism. The article defines the concepts of amateur, active, sport tourism, characterizes the state of active tourism, and considers issues of its rational spatial organization. The authors consider popular types of sports tourism in the Urals, namely pedestrian, water and speleological tourism. Specially protected natural areas should play an important role in the active tourism development in Ural. The authors propose to organize the active tourism in the Middle Urals in the form of natural parks. The article gives an argument for creating a natural park on the river Usva in Perm region.

Abstract:
Hosting recurring sport events can be a solution for sustainable tourism development resulting in destination loyalty and higher place attachment levels. This study proposes active event sport tourists may include in their destination perceptions a number of destination and event attributes, given the direct association of the event with the place. The feasibility of the convergence of event and destination image attributes in one scale was explored and that scale’s influence on place attachment and on specific active sport tourists’ behaviors was examined. Data were collected from sport event tourist participants (n= 2,015) at a recurring marathon event via an online survey. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the factor structure of destination image to include event characteristics. Regression analysis was used to test the impact of destination image factors on behavioral intentions and place attachment and supported the predictive validity of destination image factors. Implications for event and destination marketers are discussed.

Abstract:
Koreans are increasingly participating in overseas golf holidays in the Asia Pacific region and this trend is expected to continue. The popularity of golf holidays has been linked to the growing demands of special interest tourism and sport tourism where tourists seek to satisfy specific travel needs and wants to meet their travel motivations. Research into travel motivation using the concept of the push and pull framework is therefore a focus of study in tourism research. To date, little or no research has examined travel motivation and tourist typology using the push and pull framework in the markets of special interest tourism, sport tourism, or golf tourism. This thesis fills the gap in the literature and contributes to knowledge of tourist motivation and typology. The aims of the research were therefore three-fold: to identify the push and pull factors of golf travel motivation, to classify heterogeneous golf tourists into homogeneous groups, and to profile the clusters with respect to socio-demographics, golf related behaviour and travel characteristics, destination attributes, and destination preferences. This was achieved by collecting empirical data on Korean golf tourists travelling in the Asia Pacific region. The methodology comprised both qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews and quantitative research based on self-completed questionnaires. A principal component factor analysis was employed to identify five push based socio-psychological motivations and seven pull based destination attributes. A cluster analysis was then conducted to classify golfers into three different clusters, namely, Golf-intensive Golfers, Multi-motivated Golfers, and Companion Golfers. The golf clusters were then profiled based on the findings in respect to socio-demographics, golf related behaviour and travel characteristics, destination attributes, and destination preferences. A cross tabulation with chi-square tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to test the hypotheses of this thesis. Results revealed that golf tourists were not homogeneous in their push based socio-psychological travel motivations. Their profiles are theoretically and statistically feasible because the research tested hypotheses indicate that each cluster had both similarities and differences in socio-demographics, golf related behaviour and travel characteristics, destination attributes, and destination preferences. This suggests that marketing strategies should target both the different and similar aspects of golf travel behaviour. The research is of benefit not only to academics and practitioners in the study of travel motivations and tourist typology in the field of special interest tourism, sport tourism, and, in particular, golf tourism, but also to tourism marketers and tour operators in the development, promotion and packaging of golf holiday products.

Abstract:
The growth in the active tourism, with special approach for the tourism and nature sports, is confronted by the insufficient qualification of the human wrapped resources, especially with increased risk activities. In this sense, this dissertation aims to contribute to improve the training in tourism and sport of nature, more specifically in canyoning, materializing in the development of a proposal of a training model for practitioners and technicians of canyoning in Portugal. Initially presents itself as a state of the art concerning the tourism and nature sports and its obvious importance to the socio-economic development in the contemporary societies. Giving focus to training and formation in tourism and sport of nature in particular the case of canyoning. In canyoning, the international models of formation must be considered and adjusted to the necessities and characteristics of the national context, complementing to current offers and models of formation used presently, which doesn’t respond to the necessities and demands of this activity. Analysing the training offer of canyoning in Portugal, in a direct auscultation of specialists and the application of a questionnaire to technicians and practicioners allowed to reach a canyoning training model proposal that is considered more appropriate for the Portuguese reality and able to guarantee the acquisition of competences and skills adjusted to the specificities of the activity, and promotes of a sustainable practice and with elevated levels of security. The proposed training model shows up the importance of elevating the competences and qualification of practitioners and canyoning technicians, showing to be fundamental to turn around the strong gaps of knowledge checked nowadays.

Using an ecological perspective, the current research developed a theoretical framework that suggests that environmental and personal resources related to physically active leisure, as well as the interactions between them, contribute to well-being. A distance-running event was examined as an environmental resource for enhancing global life satisfaction, a key measure of subjective well-being. In contrast, the constructs of behavioral involvement and psychological involvement were used to measure personal resources resulting from physically active leisure. The proposed framework was tested with a set of three studies in which participants were recruited through a survey panel from a 10-mile distance-running event in the US. Study 1 performed a partial least squares structural equation modeling analysis to examine whether the distance-running event contributed to behavioral and psychological involvement and whether such involvement, in turn, promoted global life satisfaction. By using longitudinal data over a 5-month period, Study 2 used a latent growth modeling approach to investigate whether the distance running event was able to enhance participants' psychological involvement and whether such change promoted global life satisfaction. Study 3 conducted a moderated mediation analysis to examine the influence of personality, behavioral and psychological involvement, and two environmental resources of the distance running event and an organized running club on global life satisfaction. The results of the three studies suggest that a distance-running event can serve as an environmental resource that promotes participants' behavioral involvement and psychological involvement in the activity. The results also indicate that psychological involvement plays an important role in promoting global life satisfaction, whereas behavioral involvement may be insufficient to promote global life satisfaction. Overall, the current research contributes to the sport management and leisure literature by providing scholars with a new way of understanding the benefits of physically active leisure. The findings from the current research also provide practical implications for government and community leaders to enhance people's well-being by promoting physically active leisure in their cities and communities.

Abstract:
The Half Marathon of Évora. A event in the city Abstract: The long-distance races and their connection with the cities that welcome, promote and stimulate them seem to constitute a relational phenomenon whose origins go back thousands of years, being the first festive and playful manifestations of which there is memory. Popularized mainly in tests called marathons or half-marathons, they seem to have an enormous capacity to adapt to the evolutionary process of community life that has kept them current and interesting. Usually the event and the city are implicated, related and confused in a holistic process that makes the study of these phenomena a constant and intricate process of reciprocity. Being able to fit the event "The Évora Half Marathon" in these characteristics, studying it allowed to analyze the relations and the dynamics that the same generates and promotes, allowing a better understanding of the event and to approach its influence in the fields of the sport activity, leisure, active tourism, lifestyles and forms of belonging in the city.

Abstract:
Despite the privileged geographical location, Torres Vedras region presents a level of tourism development considerably lower than its potential. This dissertation aims to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the region of Torres Vedras as a tourism destination, by proposing a strategic plan for the active tourism segment. Initially, an overall analysis is carried out both on the importance of the tourism sector in national terms, and on the need to promote tourism planning processes to pursue the economic, social and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the planning process has to consider the needs of the “new tourists”, more active and interested in discovering the cultural identity of sites. The development of a strategic approach for the Torres Vedras region, in terms of active tourism, incorporates a general characterization of the area under study, and the execution of a survey, followed by an inventory and an assessment of the regional resources with potential for development of nature based products, namely nature sports, complemented by enjoyment of the cultural and natural heritage. The results of the assessment enhance a versatility of the area for the practice of various nature activities, revealing potential to become a competitive destination for active tourism. Through the application of a TOWS approach, the main strategic orientations are defined and a strategic plan is proposed including a methodology to develop active tourism in the region of Torres Vedras. Thus, it is expected to create conditions for the sector to earn position and recognition as a qualified and sustainable tourist destination, allowing the region to positioning itself within the national context.

Abstract:
Abstract Sport tourism is one of the fastest growing segments in the tourism industry, and more and more people seek to have an active holiday. In the same time OCR (obstacle course race) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. To sustain and develop this new phenomenon it is important to know why people are traveling to participate and what factors which are important to different groups. This thesis aim is to study the underlying motives underpinning for travel and participation in OCR races, and also link this to the destination where the OCR race takes place. More specifically, the study investigates if there are any differences in motives for traveling to participate in OCR amongst highly involved people and people with low involvement in OCR. The study is based on a questionnaire survey that have been distributed to people that are, more or less, involved in OCR. The study has been conducted by statistically analyzing data from the survey. The result showed that there are inner motives, such as challenge oneself, to feel connected to others and to create memories, rather than outer factors on the destination that drives people to travel to participate in OCR races. In terms of differences between the groups (hi and low involved people in OCR) it was social factors and identification that differ the most, where highly involved people appear to value fellowship, enjoyment and participation because of lifestyle to a greater degree than low involved people.

Abstract:
Abstract This introductory chapter begins with a brief discussion of key findings in the wider field of event studies, focusing mainly on sports events as our case study is primarily an elite sporting competition. We then introduce the idea of multispecies events, drawing on insights from human-animal studies to consider how the active involvement of nonhuman animals shapes all aspects of the event experience. After discussing equestrian tourism and equestrian events more broadly, we introduce the case study event - Landsmót, the National Championships of the Icelandic horse - in more detail to provide the reader with important background information to the event which provides the empirical base and therefore unites subsequent chapters. The chapter ends with an overview of the research process underpinning the book and an outline of the chapter contributions that enable holistic critical examination of a multispecies event and cultural festival.

Abstract:
The paper is produced based on the authors’ research “Assessment of the Introduction of the Rural Development Programme 2007–2013 Activity “Local Development Strategy” by the Partnership of Rezekne District Communities and Proposals for its Further Development”. Research on the activity of local action groups (LAGs) and their influence on the overall development of regional territories became urgent in recent years, given the implementation of the European programme LEADER. The research object of the paper is a LAG – the Partnership of Rezekne District Communities – that is located in Latvia, Latgale region. The research aim is to assess the strategy of the local action group. The research employed the monographic and descriptive methods as well as analysis, synthesis, the graphic method, data grouping and a sociological research method – a questionnaire survey. A survey of project submitters identified three major fields in which it is planned to submit and implement projects in the next programming period in the LAG’s territory. They are: promotion of active recreation and sports; reconstruction of the territory; and organisation of and contribution to cultural events. The surveyed residents agreed with the following assertions regarding their lifestyle: an enhanced surrounding environment and natural, cultural and other significant historical objects foster tourism; the establishment and functioning of youth centres contribute to useful spending of leisure time by youths and their communication; the availability of sport and fitness equipment and of sports grounds increases local residents’ interest and wish to practise a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Based on the data acquired and the interpretation of findings, proposals were made for the further development of the territory as well as the research methodology was explained for the purpose of carrying out analogues research studies in the future.

Abstract:
This research raises as thesis the idea that Linear Park is an urban instrument capable of vertebrate the city and, consequently, of regenerate it. To this end, ten parks strategically located in big cities such as Rio de Janeiro, London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, or in medium or small cities such as Valencia, Castellón or Figueres, have been analyzed. Of this analysis we have deduced some characteristics that are considered key in the linear and transversal vertebration of the city, such as: - Green axis-corridor approach - Sequence of events with integration of public buildings - Continuity derived from the union of different areas - Promotion of active leisure activities, individual or collective: sports, cultural, .... - Capability of relation and regeneration of ecosystems: forest, meadow, orchard, nurseries, water, city, .... - Capability to restore environment, with reduction in CO2, in noise pollution, ... - Establish relations between the city and the territory with definition of natural parks - Contribute to prevent thermal inversion in the city - Establish a beginning and an end as recognizable elements in city. - Confrontation of opposites: static or dynamic; soft (green) or hard (pavement); unitary or fragmentary, cartesian or organic, ... The parks thus understood can be organized in diverse typologies, such us: classic order; in net; upholstery-continuos map; linear order with grooves, tapes or bands; landscaper and naturalist; ... .. The work delves into these themes by recognizing tools of interest such as: harmonic relationship; human scale; non-guided tours; sensory experimentation: spaces, sights, aromas, sounds, colorful, ...; unexpected and random; pragmatic and passionate; order within disorder; activation of spaces without hierarchies or apriorisms; flee from monotony; evocations; ... KEY WORDS: linear park, green corridor, city vertebrador, urban regeneration, sensorial experimentation, harmonious relationship, ...
