Full textThe aim of this research is to examine the emergence of emotions in stereotype threat and its implications on performances of stigmatized individuals. We have two purposes. First, we want to show that stereotype threat situation triggers not only fear but also anger in stigmatized individuals. We postulate that endorsement or non endorsement to the group stereotype would respectively determine the emergence of fear or anger. Five experiments confirm our hypothesis. Then we examine processes through which fear and anger have deleterious effect on performances in stereotype threat situation. We suggest that fear and anger have deleterious effect because of the action tendencies and the cognitive processing of information that they trigger. Fear triggers an avoidance action tendency which could prevent stigmatized individuals to get involved in the task. Anger triggers an approach action tendency and a heuristic processing of information which could lead to rush towards the task without processing information deeply. Three experiments confirm our hypothesis. This research suggests an alternative explanation to the deleterious effect of stereotype threat on performances and highlights the importance to take into account the behavioral and cognitive consequences of emotions in the stereotype threat situation
Bauwin, Mathilde. "Microfinance and Gender Issues : reducing or Reproducing Inequalities ? Achievements and Challenges in the Tunisian Case." Thesis, Paris Sciences et Lettres (ComUE), 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PSLED048/document.
Full textMicrofinance aims at facilitating access to financial services for vulnerable people excluded from the traditional banking system. In that regard, it appears as a key tool to reduce inequalities, especially between men and women, to access credit. However, on the basis of a case study about the main Tunisian microfinance institution, this research work shows that when considering the loan conditions granted, the objective of inequality reduction is not fully achieved. If the institution indeed favors women in terms of access to credit, and despite the lesser risk female clients represent for the institution, women still receive lower loan amounts than men all along their credit history. The most ambitious women are in particular the most rationed ones. Putting the analyses on microdata, experimental data and impact assessment of a training on loan officers into perspective suggests that gender inequalities existing in Tunisia and among clients contribute to create gender-based stereotypes among loan officers. Since current granting procedures leave some room for subjectivity, some inequalities are reproduced instead of reduced

Full textAt the dawn of the XIXth century, the acceleration of the history and the secularization which settles down, favor the social integration of the Jew. After 1789, he is emancipated and becomes a citizen. This assimilation accompanies a literary integration : the Jew becomes a fictional character, multiplying his appearances in the french works of the XIXth century. We shall analyze the way the writers put at a distance stereotypes in the elaboration of a Jewish character, to imagine a shady and significant literary and psychological depth. We shall see in what these representations are also marked by a particular historic context, as the Dreyfus affair, for example. What influences the Jewish character has on the action ? Has he a fate ? Does he know love? Has he a permanent identity, or is he sensitive to the change ? The Jewish character creates a particular and problematic narrative identity, dependent on his confession. We shall analyze the being, the making and the telling of the Jewish character, and shall show how the literary construction of the Jewish character also feeds on the dialogue between text and image
Rossignol, Sophie. "La reconnaissance des discriminations multiples en droit du travail français : état des lieux et perspectives." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017STRAA010.
Full textAnti-discrimination law is always evolving. It must be receptive to new types of discrimination against workers to guarantee a level of legal protection consistent with international and national standards. In that sense, multiple discriminations are a perfect example. They take place when several protected characteristics occur and interact with each other. The concept of multiple discriminations arises from social sciences but has only been legally theorized since the 80s. If French law does not consider them, jurisprudence and practice tends to underline the necessity of a legal acknowledgment. Seized by employment law, multiple discriminations pose many questions with regard to their definition and implementation. Nonetheless, studying them offers a different approach to the duty to not discriminate at work, and to insuring diversity in the workplace
