Abstract:
I am very happy indeed to contribute to this series of lectures, especially because I owe most of my training in philosophy to Elizabeth Anscombe, whose work has given the series its name. I am deeply indebted to the marvellous generosity of her teaching, to the example she set me of an unrelentingly thorough and serious thinker, to the unobtrusive way she introduced me to Wittgenstein's later philosophy. Through Elizabeth Anscombe I also made the acquaintance of my friend Philippa Foot, whose work in moral philosophy has, over decades and more than anyone else's, influenced my own. I hope it will be possible to recognize in what I am going to say here not indeed the excellence but at least traces of the beneficial influence of both these philosophers.

Abstract:
It is generally assumed that visible actors in the performing arts industry maintain overall wellness despite the knowledge that an actor’s life is often characterized by instability. While an actor’s performance is often critiqued subjectively and critically, the variety of occupational risks associated with an actor’s well-being is less closely examined. Prior research suggests those working within the acting profession experience significant levels of distress. As a result, this article, first, aims to address the issues confronting the actor, in particular, anxiety associated with erratic employment, vulnerability to adverse working conditions, and conflict in identity owing to the impact of acting coupled with the effect of economic insecurity. Second, the paper follows with a consideration of key counselling theories to help strengthen this diverse group’s personal well-being and career prospects. By examining counselling interventions, the application of these theories can allow actors to develop optimally in acting industries worldwide.

Abstract:
In the last three decades, emotional labor has been conceptualized as comprising three strategies, namely, surface acting, deep acting, and expression of naturally felt emotion. Research suggested that each emotional labor strategy relates differently to various health and job outcomes, such as burnout and job satisfaction. These findings and the conclusions drawn are predicated on compartmentalized treatment of the three strategies. A fundamental yet unresolved question concerns whether employees adopt more than one type of emotional labor in the workplace. In this study, we adopted latent profile analysis (LPA) to examine the behavioral profile (i.e., class) of employees’ deployment of emotional labor strategies and how these profiles relate to job satisfaction and burnout. Three latent classes were identified, and the results showed that employees with these different profiles reported significantly different levels of job satisfaction and burnout. These results provide support to a person-centered approach to understand the outcomes of performing emotional labor.

Abstract:
The size of the zone of wave action on the formation is determined when the sucker rod pump is operated with a rocker-type drive. An axisymmetric fluid flow to a well is considered against the depression permanently acting on a stratum of infinite length. Reversion of fluid flow influences on the change in nature of the rock wettability in vicinity of well. This change stimulates increasing its production rate. The results of experiments on a flat laboratory stratum model are presented.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of job satisfaction on psychological well-being through emotional labor for Taiwanese home-care workers. A total of 316 home-care workers who worked in Chiayi, Taiwan, were recruited in this study. Most of the participants were Taiwanese (96.5%). The mean age of the participants was 42.05 ± 12.15 years, and the participants were predominantly female (80%). The mean work experience was 5.64 ± 5.13 years. Job satisfaction, emotional labor, and psychological well-being were measured. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to examine the direct and indirect effects on job satisfaction, emotional labor, and psychological well-being. The results demonstrated that the internal factors of job satisfaction had indirect effects on psychological well-being through the mediating effects of surface acting and deep acting. However, it was also observed that the external factors of job satisfaction had indirect effects on psychological well-being through the mediating effect of surface acting but not deep acting. The model explained 57.6% of the variance in psychological well-being. The internal factors of job satisfaction are more important than the external factors affecting psychological well-being through the mediating effect of deep acting. Based on our results, we recommend enhancing the deep acting of emotional labor to improve the psychological well-being of Taiwanese home-care workers.

Abstract:
To manage the emotional labor demands, employees may primarily rely on one strategy or the other while they may use surface and deep acting in conjunction. However, most research on emotional labor have investigated how two emotional labor strategies function to predict employee well-being separately. This variable-centered perspective is difficult to capture subpopulations of employees who may differ in their combined use of surface and deep acting. Using latent profile analysis, the current study examined potential emotional labor profiles from a person-centered perspective. We identified 5 emotional labor profiles: trying yet faking, some faking, high deep actors, high regulators, and moderates. Also this profiles differently predicted employee well-being (emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction) and objective performance (new sales and member increase). The present study captured the particular conditions in which emotional labor may lead to positive or negative outcomes for employees and organizations.

Abstract:
Since bank employees are prone to high psychological pressure, it is key to explore the influencing mechanism of their emotional labor so as to relieve their pressure, as well as improve organizational performance and service quality. This study aimed to investigate the effects of emotional labor on bank employees’ well-being and to determine the mediating role of emotional disorder in this relationship. Employees responded to a survey regarding their use of emotional labor as well as perceptions of their well-being and emotional disorder. The results showed that employees’ use of emotional labor was related to their perceptions of well-being and confirmed the mediating role of emotional disorder in this relationship. The results indicated that surface acting has a significant negative impact on employee well-being, while deep acting has a significant positive impact. Moreover, emotional disorder played a role in mediating emotional labor and employee well-being, and emotional disorder was positively correlated with surface acting and negatively correlated with deep acting. The results revealed that developing deep-acting skills is important for increasing front-line bank staff’s well-being in China, who are accustomed to repressing their emotions, and emotional disorder might occur more often than has been previously believed, which worsens their well-being.

Abstract:
In the turbulent context of interwar Polish politics, a period bookended by the right-wing nationalists’ repression of an ethnically heterogeneous state, several popular high-quality cabarets persisted in Warsaw even as they provoked and defied the nationalists’ harsh criticism. In their best, most influential incarnation, Qui pro Quo (1919–1932) and its successors, these literary cabarets violated the right’s value system through their shows’ insistent metropolitan focus, their stars’ role-modeling of immoral behavior and parodic impersonation, and their companies’ explicitly Jewish–Gentile collaboration. In the community of the cabaret, which was even more bohemian and déclassé than that of the legitimate theater, the social and ethnic antagonisms of everyday Warsaw society mattered relatively little. Writers and players bonded with each other, above all, in furious pursuit of fun, fortune, celebrity, artistic kudos, and putting on a hit show. This analysis details how the contents and stars of Qui pro Quo challenged right-wing values. Its shows advertised the capital as a sumptuous metropolis as well as a home to an eccentric array of plebeian and underworld types, including variations on the cwaniak warszawski enacted by comedian Adolf Dymsza. Its chief female stars—Zula Pogorzelska, Mira Zimińska, and Hanna Ordonówna—incarnated big-city glamour and sexual emancipation. Its recurring Jewish characters—Józef Urstein’s Pikuś and Kazimierz Krukowski’s Lopek—functioned as modern-day Warsaw’s everymen, beleaguered and bedazzled as they assimilated to city life. Qui pro Quo’s popular defense against an exclusionary nationalism showcased collaborative artistry and diverse, charismatic stars.

Abstract:
Digital maker communities democratize manufacturing through hands on learning, trans-disciplinary work and open source knowledge sharing. Little is known how knowledge sharing actually happens. This study applied actor-network-theory as underlying theoretical framework to a co-design project in a digital maker community – the teletransportation project. At the core of this project was a basic digital design for a cup that can be 3D-printed. The study showed that the different network types re-assemble around nodes that result from translations (and therefore transformations) of the initial project idea and the code that allowed to 3D-print a cup. It was able to show translations and the circular movement in the network as well as translation costs, time effects, intermediaries and mediators.

Abstract:
Healthcare disturbance is a form of workplace violence against healthcare workers perpetrated by patients, their relatives, and gangs hired by them. It is a prevalent phenomenon in China, where evidence suggests that it impacts on the job satisfaction of healthcare workers. This study aims to examine the relationship between healthcare disturbance, surface acting as a response to emotional labour, and depressive symptoms in Chinese healthcare workers. The study adopted a cross-sectional design and used an online survey methodology. Data were collected from 418 doctors and nurses from one hospital in China. The results showed that frequency of healthcare disturbance was positively related to surface acting and depressive symptoms, respectively; surface acting was also positively related to depression, while deep acting showed no effect on symptoms of depression. Furthermore, surface acting in response to emotional labour mediated the relationship between healthcare disturbance and depressive symptoms. The results highlight the importance of preventing healthcare disturbance and of training healthcare staff in strategies for managing emotional demands in reducing depressive symptoms in Chinese healthcare staff.

Abstract:
Abstract The present investigation was designed to determine whether atrial natriuretic peptides consisting of amino acids 1–30 (long acting natriuretic peptide), 31–67 (vessel dilator) and 79–98 (kaliuretic peptide) as well as 99–126 (atrial natriuretic factor (ANF)) of the 126 amino acid ANF prohormone inhibit aldosterone secretion. Thirty healthy human subjects were studied following infusion of 100 ng/kg body weight/min for 60 min of each of the respective peptides. Kaliuretic peptide decreased plasma aldosterone concentration by the greatest amount (6-fold) and plasma aldosterone was still significantly decreased (P<0·001) three hours after stopping the infusion. In contrast, within 30 min of cessation of the ANF infusion, plasma aldosterone levels had returned to pre-infusion values. Long acting natriuretic peptide also significantly (P<0·01) decreased plasma aldosterone levels which remained significantly (P<0·001) decreased 3 h after cessation of infusion. Vessel dilator did not decrease plasma aldosterone levels. Kaliuretic peptide, ANF and long acting natriuretic peptide also decreased (P<0·01) urinary aldosterone concentrations. None of these peptides changed the plasma potassium concentration. We conclude that two new peptide hormones (long acting natriuretic peptide and kaliuretic peptide) inhibit aldosterone secretion. The length of time that aldosterone secretion is inhibited following kaliuretic peptide and long acting natriuretic peptide infusion is significantly longer (P<0·001) than following ANF infusion. Abstract:
Objective: Examining the experiences of students of a theater company pertaining to the impact of work in the dramatic arts on their psychological well-being. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 students of a theater company of different ages and levels of experience. The collected qualitative data were analyzed in the context of the six-factor Theory of psychological well-being, which includes: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. In addition to the above topics derived from a deductive approach to data, two additional topics are also discussed: reasons for enrolling in the theater and participants’ progress. Results: The results of this research showed that acting contributes to the personal well-being of individuals. The participants most often mentioned an increase in self-confidence, a decrease in anxiety levels, a connection with other students, courage, and awareness of one’s own capabilities. In addition to the positive impact of acting on their lives, the participants also mentioned some negative aspects they had noticed when it comes to the behavior of others, such as a lack of accountability of some students, “pretending” in everyday life, and some prejudices regarding acting. Conclusion: The results of the research support the idea that working in the arts, in this case the dramatic arts, can contribute to the psychological well-being of individuals. Sharing their experiences of working in the dramatic arts, the students of a theater company touched on all six domains of psychological well-being pertaining to the Theory of psychological well-being (Ryff &amp; Keyes, 1995).

Abstract:
Significant role of getting the required amount of air into the human body belongs to the breathing by the nose. The nasal cavity prepares the air for reciprocity with the lower respiratory tract owing to the complex structure of the mucous membrane. When nasal obstruction occurs, breathing is carried out mainly through the mouth, and there is a violation of the basic functions of the nose, as well as the ingress of unadapted aggressive air to the sensitive alveolar structures of the lungs. This leads first to functional, and then to morphological and structural changes. In addition, difficult nasal breathing leads to impaired aeration of the paranasal cavities, middle ear cavity and hypoxia of all organs of the body. Even short episodes of nasal obstruction affect the quality of life, and prolonged untreated or incorrectly treated acute viral rhinosinusitis can spill over into lingering bacterial diseases of the ENT organs. Decongestants are used to eliminate nasal congestion. Decongestants include a wide range of substances that are used topically or systemically, in the form of monotherapy or in combination with other substances. The most popular drugs in this group are topical decongestants, since they have the most pronounced effect. The main nasal decongestants can be divided into two groups: sympathomimetic amines: primary aliphatic; phenolic and non-phenolic compounds, as well as imidazoline derivatives. Among the modern vasoconstrictor drugs oxymetazoline. Using it strictly according to the instructions within 3–5 days guarantees the absence of the development of local and systemic complications.

Abstract:
Purpose The current study aims to examine the antecedents and outcomes of emotional labor strategies (i.e. surface acting and deep acting) among service employees in China. The study proposed employees’ perceived closeness with customers and customers’ socioeconomic status will predict deep acting and surface acting, respectively. It further examined the mediating role of emotional labor between perceived customer attributes and employee well-being (i.e. burnout and job satisfaction). Design/methodology/approach One hundred and one employees at a jewelry store in China completed a survey regarding their perceptions of customers, use of emotional labor and well-being (e.g. job satisfaction and burnout). Correlational and regression analyses were conducted to examine the predictors and outcomes of different emotional labor strategies. Findings Perceived closeness with the customer group predicted employees’ use of deep acting, whereas perceived customer socioeconomic status did not predict the use of surface acting. Deep acting was negatively related with burnout, whereas surface acting did not predict burnout. Deep acting mediated the relationship between perceived closeness with customers and burnout. Practical implications To maintain employee well-being, organizations can promote a service climate to enhance employees’ perceived relationship with customers. Originality/value The study specifies the interpersonal context in which employees use different emotional labor strategies; the perceived closeness with customers predicts less burnout via the use of more deep acting. This study also supplements the existing research on emotional labor based on a Chinese sample; deep acting predicts employee well-being.

Abstract:
This paper develops a new well test analysis procedure of a horizontal well in an infinite-acting reservoir. Hitherto, horizontal well pressure drawdown test analysis during infinite-acting flow was accomplished based on a straight line method obtained from a plot of flowing wellbore pressure versus log of flow time. In that procedure, only limited system characterization was possible. Furthermore, the rigorous type curve matching was resorted to when a straight line did not appear. In the method developed here, a plot of flowing wellbore pressures, pwf, against dimensionless wellbore pressures, pD, is made for analysis. Results show that a straight line relationship exists between the two plotted parameters on a linear paper. The straight line slope across the middle time region can be taken to perform test analysis. From the plot, reservoir pressure, near wellbore permeability, reservoir capacity, fluid mobility and transmissibility can be calculated. Mathematical procedure leading to this method of analysis is based on selection of relevant source and Green’s functions for a horizontal well during infinite-acting flow and purely as a line source. A case pressure test selected for analysis using the method developed here yielded very close reservoir character compared to the reservoir being characterized Keywords: Dimensionless pressure, dimensionless derivatives, infinite-acting, horizontal well, early radial flow

Abstract:
IntroductionIt is well known that hyperprolactinemia increases the risk of hypogonadism, osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases. Atypical anti-psychotics are directly related with its development. Despite its importance, pharmacological hyperprolactinemia it is not considered and treated by psychiatrists as much as expected. Nowadays, long-acting aripiprazole is one of the main treatments that barely increase the prolactin (PRL) levels.ObjectivesTo determine the number of cases in which PRL levels are detected. To quantify the reduction of PRL levels with patients treated with long-acting aripiprazole.MethodsObservational, descriptive study, from February 2015 to July 2016, of 52 patients treated with anti-psychotics, in two Sevillian community mental health centers.ResultsIn 56% of cases, PRL level was measured at least one time: in 77% of cases with prescription of long-acting aripiprazole, PRL levels are reduced.ConclusionFirst step to reduce the impact of hyperprolactinemia in patients is to determine the PRL levels in a systematic way being this practice a must to be considered. In the study carried out and described in this abstract, reduction of PRL levels in target populations using long-acting aripiprazole is observed.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
The art of acting, drama, or theatre has been largely excluded from the debate on the nature of consciousness in the scientific community. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether acting performance benefits from a divided or unified state of consciousness. Twenty-four acting students and professionals performed a monologue three times, twice with an interference task. Two different sets of instructions were provided for this task: one that asked participants to incorporate the interference into the world of their monologue (unified consciousness), and another that asked them to dissociate it from their theatrical performance (divided consciousness). The variables studied included an evaluation of performance on primary and secondary tasks, as well as responses on a creativity and dissociative experiences questionnaire and to open-ended questions. Two acting professors provided monologue ratings. There was a significant difference in interference task performance scores for the divided and unified conscious conditions, as well as for the primary rater's monologue scores. Participants performed better on both tasks when they were asked to incorporate the interference into the imagined world of their monologue. These results show that a unified conscious approach results in better performance on certain tasks, implying that unified consciousness may be more adaptive for certain daily functions such as multitasking.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper takes a social-constructionist approach to the terms vulnerability and resilience in order to test their analytical potential within the frame of an empirical spatial-science study. The empirical object was deliberately chosen from a field untypical for vulnerability analyses: the volatile labour markets for musical actors. The paper draws on qualitative interviews to trace the actors' construction of labour-market related uncertainties, mainly caused by labour-market dynamics as well as institutional and territorial mismatches. Barely any resilience strategies exist for these forms of vulnerability. As a result, musical actors construct multiple identities from their bodies and talents, which they use in a targeted way within different spatial and social contexts. Two forms of network governance are additionally established to attenuate some of the competitive mechanisms. From a spatial viewpoint, these practices constitute transient, multi-local activity spaces in the labour market in which action is more effective when combined with a relatively stable home base.

Abstract:
AbstractSeveral authors, including Stephen Law in this journal, have argued that the case for an evil God is (about) as strong as for a good God. In this article I take up the challenge on behalf of theists who, like Richard Swinburne, argue for an agent of unrestricted power and knowledge as the ultimate explanation of all contingent truths. I shall argue that an evil God is much less probable than a good one. I do so by (1) distinguishing the analogical predication of ‘good’ or ‘evil’ of God from the literal predication, (2) interpreting ‘acting in a morally good way’ to mean ‘acting like a good consequentialist’, and (3) relying on an axiarchist thesis about agency that is congenial to theists and perhaps even presupposed by theism.

Abstract:
We consider modeling and geophysical interpretation of the obtained results in the oil and gas production problems. For solving these practical problems, we use combined finite element-differences method of resolving piezoconductivity problem with calculation of heterogeneous filtration parameters distribution of oil and gas productive reservoirs and oil-gas penetration conditions in the borders of the reservoirs. At that, we consider the main factors, which influence on the intensity of filtration processes near oil production well and gas production well respectively. These factors are important for effective supporting in practice high level of the oil and gas production. On the base of computer modeling, we have showed that intensity of filtration process near the acting oil and gas production wells mainly depends on oil phase and respectively gas phase permeability, as in close zone of well acting so in remote zone. The viscosity and reservoir porosity parameters in close and remote zones of the well action have little direct effect on filtration process near the acting well. However, these parameters can influence on the filtration process implicitly via direct acting on the respective phase permeability. We also have carried out analysis of the pumping well influence on the filtration process near production well in different practical cases.

Abstract:
The paper gives brief literature review on the specification of maximum load acting on the horsehead. Additionally, it presents a new method of specification of the friction force acting via ""Quantor-4micro"" hardware-software complex, with the dynamometer of which the dynagraph is taken. The maximum load, which is equal to the sum of all forces acting on the horsehead is graphically specified through the upper horizontal straight dynagraph. The friction force called unknown value is involved among them as well. The equation is developed and friction force value specified.

Abstract:
Abstract Drawing on the model of Grandey (2000), it was proposed that the attitude towards occupation could buffer the negative effects of emotional labour. A total of 173 teachers participated in the study. Attitudes towards occupation, surface acting, emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction were estimated. The indirect measure of the attitude towards occupation was assessed using the Approaching-Avoidance Simulation Method. Confirmatory Factor Analysis proved the validity and reliability of the indirect measurement, which is based on uncontrolled reactions of the respondents towards stimuli representing the profession. The results revealed a positive correlation between attitudes towards occupation and indicators of employees’ well-being. The indirect measure of attitude towards occupation turned out to be a significant moderator of the relationship between surface acting and job satisfaction. The results raise interesting questions about the connection between indirect measures of attitudes towards occupation and employee well-being

Abstract:
Abstract Aim This research aims to compare the efficacy and direct costs of short-acting oral antipsychotics and aripiprazole once-monthly (AOM) in the context of the treatment of patients with schizophrenia based on real-world data in Germany. Method Results are based on a single-armed, retrospective, non-interventional pre-post comparison study evaluating data from 132 patients with schizophrenia before and after switching from oral antipsychotics to AOM treatment (6 months each). Socio-demographics, as well as parameters of indication, efficacy and resource consumption were analyzed and statistically evaluated. Results The switch from an oral antipsychotic medication to AOM led to a distinct improvement in all clinically relevant parameters, including a reduction in hospitalization rates (55.1 % vs. 14.0 %), length of stay (43.5 d vs. 34.8 d) and percentage of patients with multiple hospitalizations (13.6 % vs. 3.8 %). There was also a reduction in schizophrenic episodes for patients with ≥ 1 episode (2.9 vs. 1.4) and of the percentage of patients with ≥ 1 (88.0 % vs. 29.3 %) as well as ≥ 2 (60.0 % vs. 8.1 %) schizophrenic episodes. The proportion of patients requiring a visit to day clinics or psychiatric institute outpatient clinics (PIA) decreased (39.5 % vs. 8.4 %) for patients with AOM treatment, as did the average length of stay in day clinics or PIAs (116.8 d vs. 86.4 d) for patients with ≥ 1 stay. The cost saving potential of AOM compared to the treatment with oral antipsychotics ranged between 1,729.32 € and 5,048.53 € per patient for a six-month observation period. Conclusion Our results suggest that AOM treatment of patients with schizophrenia is more effective (reduction in schizophrenic episodes, hospitalizations, stays in day clinics, psychiatrist visits, losses in productivity) and generates lower costs for the statutory health insurance (SHI) in Germany than treatment with oral antipsychotics and should therefore not be regarded as only a last-resort treatment option for schizophrenia.

Abstract:
The scene I confronted when I arrived in the classroom on that third day of the simulation unnerved me. Festooned all over the walls, the blackboard, the backs of chairs, and the door through which I had entered were photocopied political posters, some in full color, most in black and white, all sporting an array of frightening images from Germany in 1932: swastikas, hammers and sickles, pictures of Adolf Hitler and Karl Marx, a Socialist Party poster with a worker crucified upon a devilish swastika, invocations to vote for this candidate or that one, threats of dire consequences should one or the other side prevail. I quickly closed the windowed door and blocked it, fearful that a colleague or a student might happen by, glance in, and wonder what I was teaching these students. Students moved me out of the way and papered the door window with even more posters, and I confronted the unforeseen consequence of an improvisation. On a whim, at the end of the first day of a three-day simulation of the German Reichstag election of 1932, I had promised an extra 300 votes to whichever party put up the most posters on the third day, and my students had responded with ferocious energy! Well, I thought, that idea was obviously going to require a little bit of tweaking.1

Abstract:
Recent studies have suggested that sensory-processing sensitivity correlates to poor psychological and physical health. However, it remains unclear how this occurs. Sensory-processing sensitivity can be understood as sensitivity to sensations without the presence of intentional awareness and a nonreactive attitude, which are the components of mindfulness. We tested the hypothesis that dispositional mindfulness mediates the relationship between sensory-processing sensitivity and trait anxiety, well-being and psychosomatic symptoms. We analyzed data from 563 participating young adults living in Japan. Multiple mediation analysis showed that the four facets (nonreactivity, nonjudging, describing, and acting with awareness) of mindfulness partially mediated the effects of sub-factors of sensory-processing sensitivity (low sensory threshold and ease of excitation) on trait anxiety. Nonreactivity, describing, and acting with awareness partially mediated the effect of low sensory threshold on well-being and fully mediated the effect of ease of excitation. Nonjudging and acting with awareness partially mediated the effects of low sensory threshold and ease of excitation on psychosomatic symptoms. As a whole, the mediation hypotheses were supported, and it was determined that the improvement of dispositional mindfulness may prove effective for the psychological and physical problems of people with high sensory-processing sensitivity.

Abstract:
Objective Blood cardioplegia, the gold-standard cardioprotective strategy, requires frequent dosing, resulting in hyperkalemia-induced myocardial edema. The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy and safety of a long-acting blood-based cardioplegia with physiological potassium levels versus the well-established cold blood St. Thomas’ Hospital no. 1 cardioplegia solution in multivalve surgeries. Methods One hundred patients undergoing simultaneous elective aortic and mitral valve replacement ± tricuspid valve repair were randomized in two groups. In group 1, adenosine 12 mg was given via the aortic root after crossclamping, followed by a single dose of long-acting solution at 14℃ (30 mLċkg−1); in group 2, an initial 30 mLċkg−1 of St. Thomas’ cardioplegia at 14℃ was administered, followed by 15 mLċkg−1 every 20 min. Duration of cardiopulmonary bypass, inotropic score, arrhythmias, ventilation time, and the levels of interleukin-6, creatinine kinase-MB, and troponin I were compared. Results Mean cardiopulmonary bypass and crossclamp times were 134.04 ± 36.12 vs. 154.34 ± 34.26 ( p = 0.004) and 110.37 ± 24.80 vs. 132.48 ± 31.68 min ( p = 0.002), respectively, in the long-acting and St. Thomas’ groups. Cardiac index, creatinine kinase-MB and troponin I levels were comparable. Interleukin-6 levels post-bypass were 61.72 ± 15.33 and 75.44 ± 31.78 pgċmL−1 ( p = 0.007) in the long-acting and St. Thomas’ cardioplegia groups, respectively. Conclusions Single-dose long-acting cardioplegia gives a cardioprotective effect comparable to repeated doses of the well-established St. Thomas’ Hospital no. 1 cold blood cardioplegia.

Abstract:
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a significant blow to the restaurant industry, with many restaurants suspending operations or closing altogether. This study was aimed to investigate the effects of emotional labor on employees’ well-being and the mediating role of self-efficacy in the context of chain restaurants. Data were collected in 2020 through an online survey in China, and results revealed that emotional labor had a significant impact on well-being that was measured in life and job satisfaction. Self-efficacy not only had a significant positive impact on employees’ job- and life-related well-being but also played a fully mediating role between deep acting and life satisfaction, with a partial mediating role between deep acting and job satisfaction. Job-related well-being also played a fully mediating role between deep acting and life satisfaction, with a partial mediating role between deep acting and job satisfaction. It is important for restaurant employees to develop deep acting skills and improve self-efficacy and job satisfaction Restaurant managers must establish a healthy working environment by providing better job support and creating a more relaxed working atmosphere.

Abstract:
We describe Dec-RPAE, a system for decentralized multi-agent acting and planning in partially observable and non-deterministic environments. The system includes both an acting component and an online planning component. The acting component is similar to RAE, a well-known acting engine, but incorporates changes that enable it to be used by multiple autonomous agents working independently in a collaborative setting. Each agent runs a local copy of Dec-RPAE, with a set of hierarchical refinement methods using operational models that specify various ways to accomplish its designated tasks. To perform actions, the agent uses Dec-RPAE’s acting component to execute the methods in the agent’s environment. To advise the acting component on which method to execute, the planning component repeatedly does Monte Carlo simulations of the methods to estimate their potential outcomes. Agents can communicate with each other to exchange information about their states, tasks, goals, and plans in order to cooperatively succeed in their respective missions. Our experimental results demonstrate that Dec-RPAE is useful for improving the agents’ performances.

Abstract:
This study used data from an online questionnaire survey of public employees in Ghana and examined the relationship between emotional labor (surface acting and deep acting) and burnout (emotional exhaustion), as well as the moderating-mediating effects of social media use on that relationship. Surface acting has been found to be a stronger predictor of burnout than deep acting. Social media use reinforces the influence of surface acting on burnout but does not moderate the relationship between deep acting and burnout. Social media use mediates the relationship between deep acting and burnout, whereas a mediation effect is not found between surface acting and burnout. These findings suggest that public agencies should develop strategies to decrease stress arising from emotional labor and understand the relationship between emotional labor and social media use.

<p>Loss of glial cells with resulting atrophy of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) as well as the hippocampal area is demonstrated in depressed patients by brain imaging and postmortem studies. The mPFC is the master control of mood and emotional response. The hippocampus is part of the limbic system, the main function of which is to regulate emotions. The mPFC depends on the hippocampus for rapid learning and memory consolidation. Unlike monoamine reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, which take 6 to 8 weeks to exert their full effects, and with 30 - 40% unresponsive rate, ketamine acts rapidly, within a couple of hours, and has higher responsive rates. It suggests that in theory, due to its rapid effect, Ketamine could well serve as a bridging remedy to lower the rate of suicidal risk before Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) reach their full effect for long-term depression management. Yet, ketamine has long been linked with abusive potential and possible neurotoxicity if used in large doses over a prolonged period. Even though there are no collected data to prove the associated adverse effects, awareness of this negative aspect of ketamine is sufficiently widespread to propel the psychiatric community to look for other rapidly acting antidepressant alternatives. Recent studies have shown that scopolamine, the Yueju pill, and magnesium are rapid-onset antidepressants that have mechanisms comparable to that of ketamine. These rapid-acting antidepressant agents promise to be effective and safer choices for depression management in the future, providing that further studies and investigations to produce a better and fuller understanding of their effects and limitations.</p>

Abstract:
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an essential component in ending the HIV pandemic. Unfortunately, PrEP uptake has not been optimal to date. This is due to various reasons, one of which is adherence. Long-acting injectables may help to overcome this barrier. This brief review discusses the long-acting injectables currently in use for PrEP (cabotegravir) and HIV treatment (cabotegravir and lenacapavir), as well as those currently undergoing clinical trials. Other promising agents are being studied, including islatravir and broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies. Furthermore, agents currently used for HIV treatment will likely be evaluated in preclinical and clinical studies for their use as PrEP agents.

Abstract:
We offer an account of mental health and well-being using the predictive processing framework (PPF). According to this framework, the difference between mental health and psychopathology can be located in the goodness of the predictive model as a regulator of action. What is crucial for avoiding the rigid patterns of thinking, feeling and acting associated with psychopathology is the regulation of action based on the valence of affective states. In PPF, valence is modelled as error dynamics—the change in prediction errors over time . Our aim in this paper is to show how error dynamics can account for both momentary happiness and longer term well-being. What will emerge is a new neurocomputational framework for making sense of human flourishing.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the problems of governing post-1997 Hong Kong by applying the veto players approach. Previous works in this area placed little emphasis on the actors who could actually create problems for the government by opposing changes—the veto players. In this research, administrative elites and the business sector are regarded as veto players in the system. To improve governance and achieve its ideal “executive-led” model, it is argued that Beijing has attempted to weaken the veto players by adopting different strategies, despite granting them their power in the first place. This article contributes to the literature by offering a novel perspective on the problems in the governance of Hong Kong, as well as providing implications for the dynamics of national-regional relationships.

Abstract:
Typically, classes in anatomy and physiology are taught via lecture and visual aids. This seems to work well for students who are primarily auditory and visual learners but not for those who learn better through kinesthetic experiences. This is the first report describing the use of improvisation to act out physiological concepts within an anatomy and physiology course. Improvisational techniques encourage active participation and allow students to personally interact with and experience difficult concepts in the classroom. In this paper, sensory modality preferences for learning will be discussed briefly. Improvisational techniques will be described, and examples of improvisations useful to convey intricate physiological concepts will be provided. Last, student responses to the use of improvisational techniques in an anatomy and physiology course will be reported.

Abstract:
Olanzapine long acting injection has joined risperidone and paliperidone as the second generation long acting antipsychotic injection options for treatment of patients with schizophrenia. Long acting injections are important alternatives to oral medications for patients who have difficulty adhering to daily or multiple daily medication administrations, yet may be underutilized or not well understood. Patient perceptions, adherence, and preferences are important issues for health care providers to address when discussing treatment options with their patients. Reviewed here are overall patient and health care provider attitudes and perceptions regarding long acting injections and the details of olanzapine long acting injectable, the newest agent, and how it will fit in the marketplace. In addition, efficacy, safety, dosing and use data regarding this newest long acting agent are reviewed and compared to other available long acting agents.
