Abstract:
Pineapple is a perennial fruit-bearing tropical plant that belongs to the Bromeliaceae family, which has more than 2500 species. Pineapple is known excellent source of minerals and vitamins. It produces substantial calcium, potassium, glucose, the proteindigesting enzyme bromelain, fibre, vitamin A, B and C. In Malaysia, twelve registered varieties of pineapple have been introduced and commercially planted such as Moris (AC1), Sarawak (AC2), Gandul (AC3), Maspine (AC4), Josapine (AC5) Yankee (AC6) Moris Gajah (AC7), N36 (AC8), MD2 (AC9), View of Sunset (AC10), Madu Kaca (AC11), and Keningau Diamond (AC12). The disease is one of the important factors that can contribute to the huge losses of pineapple yield worldwide. This review paper aimed to discuss the main diseases of pineapple and their control management, particularly in Malaysia. The common diseases of pineapple that cause significant yield losses in the farms such as mealybug wilt-associated virus, bacterial heart rot, fruit collapse, butt rot, fruitlet core rot, black rot, yeasty and fusariosis are highlighted and discussed in detail on the causal pathogens, disease symptoms and signs, disease infection and development. The available control measures for managing pineapple diseases were also included in this paper.

Abstract:
Purslane (Portulaca oleraceaL.) is an herbaceous leafy vegetable crop, comparatively more salt-tolerant than any other vegetables with high antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. Salt-tolerant crop variety development is of importance due to inadequate cultivable land and escalating salinity together with population pressure. In this view a total of 25 purslane accessions were initially selected from 45 collected purslane accessions based on better growth performance and subjected to 5 different salinity levels, that is, 0.0, 10.0, 20.0, 30.0, and 40.0 dS m−1NaCl. Plant height, number of leaves, number of flowers, and dry matter contents in salt treated purslane accessions were significantly reduced (P≤0.05) and the enormity of reduction increased with increasing salinity stress. Based on dry matter yield reduction, among all 25 purslane accessions 2 accessions were graded as tolerant (Ac7 and Ac9), 6 accessions were moderately tolerant (Ac3, Ac5, Ac6, Ac10, Ac11, and Ac12), 5 accessions were moderately susceptible (Ac1, Ac2, Ac4, Ac8, and Ac13), and the remaining 12 accessions were susceptible to salinity stress and discarded from further study. The selected 13 purslane accessions could assist in the identification of superior genes for salt tolerance in purslane for improving its productivity and sustainable agricultural production.

Abstract:
Playwriting guides, creative writing handbooks, and screenwriting manuals are replete with guidance as to how an author should express their themes. One common rule of thumb is that the climax is where the themes, the characters, and the narrative’s result converge in the terminal of the thematic statement. If the theme is established and elaborated on during a film, then its climax is where the film’s authors express their position on the matter through the narrative’s result or lack thereof. As part of my Ph.D. artistic research, I have written and directed an interactive film, The Limits of Consent; the film follows a tree-structure where the narrative splinters at the end of the second act and presents nine separate climaxes for the film. Each climax is significantly different in either its character-focus, action, tone, style, and, crucially, its expression of the film’s themes. In this article, by examining how the thematic portfolio of The Limits of Consent was established and then elaborated on in different ways depending on selected ending, I will explore the implications of this difference between a traditional film and an interactive film and how a filmmaker may present multiple thematic statements based on the same narrative.

Abstract:
Activation of adenylyl cyclase (AC), of which there are 10 diversely regulated isoforms, is important in regulating pulmonary vascular tone and remodeling. Immunohistochemistry in rat lungs demonstrated that AC2, AC3, and AC5/6 predominated in vascular and bronchial smooth muscle. Isoforms 1, 4, 7, and 8 localized to the bronchial epithelium. Exposure of animals to hypoxia did not change the pattern of isoform expression. RT-PCR confirmed mRNA expression of AC2, AC3, AC5, and AC6 and demonstrated AC7 and AC8 transcripts in smooth muscle. Western blotting confirmed the presence of AC2, AC3, and AC5/6 proteins. Functional studies provided evidence of cAMP regulation by Ca2+ and protein kinase C-activated but not Gi-inhibited pathways, supporting a role for AC2 and a Ca2+-stimulated isoform, AC8. However, NKH-477, an AC5-selective activator, was more potent than forskolin in elevating cAMP and inhibiting serum-stimulated [3H]thymidine incorporation, supporting the presence of AC5. These studies demonstrate differential expression of AC isoforms in rat lungs and provide evidence that AC2, AC5, and AC8 are functionally important in cAMP regulation and growth pathways in pulmonary artery myocytes.

Abstract:
The largest class of hyperstructures is the one which satisfies the weak properties and they are called Hv-structures. In this paper, the concept of Hv-S-act is introduced and some of their properties are investigated. The present paper establishes a possible connection between S-act, GHS-act and Hv-S-act. It is shown that the quotient of GHS-act with any equivalence relation is Hv-S-act. The main tool to study all hyperstructures is the fundamental relations. The study of fundamental relations in Hv-S-act reveals some interesting results. Specifically, these relations connect weak hyperactions with the corresponding classical actions.

Pryor, Caitlin. "Vanishing Act." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2015. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc801936/.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation is comprised of a collection of poems preceded by a critical preface. The preface reconsiders the value of discontinuous poetic forms and advocates a return to lyric as an antidote to the toxic aspects of what Tony Hoagland terms “the skittery poem of our moment.” I consider poems by Wendy Xu, Kevin Prufer, Sharon Olds, and Stephen Dunn in depth to facilitate a discussion about the value of a more centrist position between the poles of supreme discontinuity and totalizing continuity. Though poets working in discontinuous forms are rightly skeptical of the hierarchies that govern narrative and linear forms, as Czesław Miłosz notes in The Witness of Poetry, “a poet discovers a secret, namely that he can be faithful to real things only by arranging them hierarchically.” In my own poems, I make use of the hierarchies of ordered perception in lyric and narrative forms to faithfully illuminate the collapsed structures of my own family history in the shadow of Detroit. I practice the principles I advocate in the preface, using a continuous form to address fractured realities in a busy, disordered age when poets often seek forms as fragmented as their perceptions. These poems are distinctly American, but because there is no true royalty in America, our great cultural and economic institutions—television, music, film, magazines, and big business—take the place of the castle (the book’s emblem) while Michael Jackson ultimately rises as the commanding dead king whose passing prompts contemplation of the viability of popular culture, family, history, and geography. The fallen structures that litter the work are many: the twin towers, chess rooks, bounce castles, nuclear families, the auto industry. However, the sole structure cohering the whole is that of a lyric voice whose authority is derived through lived experience and presented in rich, continuous poetic forms.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis is focused on corporate fraud problematic, on The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and on problematics of internal control systems and corporate governance, which relate closely with the Sarbanes-Oxley act. The goal of my diploma thesis is to highlight the significance of corporate fraud problematic and create an integrated summary of requirements placed on companies, which either have to or want to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley act. The opening part of the diploma thesis is focused on fraud theory, which is after that demonstrated on accounting scandal cases Enron, WorldCom and Arthur Andersen. The biggest losses were caused by fraudulent financial reporting. The Sarbanes Oxley act is a reaction on this fraud cases. The Sarbanes-Oxley act brought a range of significant changes in financial reporting, internal control, corporate governance, audit and other areas.

Matteoni, Cecilia. "The Act of Representation : En adaptionsanalys av dokumentärfilmen The Act of Killing." Thesis, Linnéuniversitetet, Institutionen för film och litteratur (IFL), 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:lnu:diva-96301.

Full text
Abstract:
The essay is an application of Linda Hutcheon's adaptation theory analysis model on the documentary film The Act of Killing - a film that has been described as both brave, groundbreaking, frightening, revealing and important, but also unpolitical, provocative, misleading, manipulative and exploitative. The essay examines with the help of Hutcheon's pervasive questions what, who, why, how, where and when, how representation can be perceived so differently and how criticism can be so polarized around the film. The film's complex background, content and form require a broad and in-depth analysis to grasp what is hidden behind dramatized dreams, fantasies, memories, reconstructed murders, interviews, meta parts and behind-the-scenes scenes. The essay examines the background of the mass murders of about one million people in Indonesia in 1965/66, the medialization around them, filled with domestic propaganda and exoticizing Western reporting, and the film process for the film. The film shows some of the murderers and how they still enjoy an impunity today, which allows them to boast in front of Oppenheimer's camera about their actions. The essay focuses on the representation of the persons involved in the events, of the real events in history and of Indonesians as an ethnic group and follows the same set of chapters as Hutcheon does in her book A Theory of Adaptation with the questions What, Who and Why, How and Where and When.

Abstract:
One of the key lessons of the 2007-2008 global financial crisis is the importance of financial market infrastructures (FMIs) as a pillar of financial stability. Before, the role of financial market infrastructures, namely the provision of trading, clearing, settling, recording, and compressing services for transactions between financial institutions (FIs) was often taken for granted. This was reflected in FMIs having often been referred to as the financial system’s plumbing, including by the Federal Reserve’s 14th chairman (Bernanke, 2011)—a clear reference to the critical yet concealed importance of FMIs in the safe and efficient functioning of financial markets. Today, it is clear that the failure of an important FMI will almost certainly lead to systemic instability in financial markets. Given this, it is evident that FMIs are critical infrastructures; that is, based on a definition by the European Commission (2008), FMIs can be considered systems that are essential for the maintenance of vital societal functions, health, safety, security, economic or social well-being of people. In light of this importance, it’s perhaps surprising that the literature about financial networks has addressed the importance of FMIs rather recently and sparingly. The archetypical financial network, composed of FIs as elements (the nodes) that are interlinked through different types of relations (e.g., exposures, payments, ownership, common holdings), has been complemented by the introduction of FMIs as an additional layer that provides a medium for FIs to interact. As highlighted in Berndsen, et al. (2018), a network of FIs that does not include FMIs is a logical network—one that displays bilateral relations despite those requiring the intervention of an FMI to exist. And that’s why the plumbing reference is particularly illustrative: when looking at the floor plan of a house, the plumbing is a critical additional layer hidden beneath the first—immediately visible—layer; in a building, carelessly knocking down a wall could have a disastrous effect on the supply of water, electricity, gas, communications within the apartment and even to others above and below–not to mention the effect on the structural integrity of the building. However, there are further layers beneath those containing FIs and FMIs. In fact, a financial network composed of FIs and FMIs is still a logical network, as the connections between FIs and FMIs also require the intervention of other elements to exist. Those elements provide the physical connection that enables the interlinkages among FIs and FMIs, in the form of wired (e.g., cable) or wireless (e.g., radio waves) connections. That is, as stated by Berndsen, et al. (2018), the interdependence of financial markets with physical networks, such as power and communication networks, make those networks critical infrastructures and obvious candidates for examining the stability of financial systems from an operational perspective.
