Abstract: Peureulak Sultanate and the Discourse on ‘Zero Point of Nusantara’s Islamic Civilization’. In March 2017, Indonesian Government officially recognized Barus, a historical small city at the western coast of Sumatra, as the zero point of Indonesian Islamic Civilization. This recognition was marked by a relatively modest monument, inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Muslim historians responded differently: some agree and others disagree. The present author finds it very important to underline once again that Peureulak Sultanate at the eastern coast of Aceh was the first sizeable Islamic Kingdom of not just the Indonesia archipelago but also of the whole Southeast Asian archipelago. As a matter of fact, this has been the conclusion of several historical studies. Therefore, from scholarly point of view, the placement of this important monument at Barus needs to be studied and revisited. While Barus was indeed the first point of the arrival of Islam, the Muslim community there did not form any sizeable socio-political force. Peureulak, on the other hand, was successful in doing so.

Kata Kunci: Peureulak, Aceh, Nusantara, politik

Abstract:
Aceh was under Dutch rule for decades. During this time, the public couldn’t access education due to restrictions put in place by the Dutch empire. Access to quality schools is limited to children from the upper class, as most children have difficulty getting an education. As a result, many kids struggle to get an education that includes Islamic education— even if they are from the upper class. Understanding Aceh’s only province with Islamic syari’ah is the main goal of this paper. After that, solutions provided by Teungku Chiek Dirundeng for building Islamic education are sought out. Through his efforts, he helped the Aceh community come together and find solutions to their problems. The story of Teungku Chiek Dirundeng is recorded in Aceh’s saga and written directly into Dutch history books. It’s one of the religious leaders in Aceh who contributed to building the civilization of human life by educating people. This research uses qualitative methods to examine the history and strategies of Teungku Chiek Dirundeng to develop an Islamic-based education system in Aceh. Researchers reviewed every public document published between 1960 and the present day for their research. These documents showed that Teungku Chiek Dirundeng believed building Islamic schools was the best way to promote Islamic education. Pesantren, pronounced Dayah in Indonesian, is an educational institution founded by Muslim scholars. It's based in Meukek, Labuhan Haji and Rundeng areas and is known for its ability to mobilize the community to work together. Only a few researchers have studied the history of Islamic leaders. One of these people is Aceh’s Sultan Hamengku Buwono II. He led the community to create dayah, which is the first step in forming an Islamic education system. Before that point, he helped people establish basics like religion and its rituals in Aceh.

Abstract:
Human rights is an idea that have a long process in the history of human civilization. Human rights always have a correlative relationship with human duty because of the nature of human nature as individuals and social beings. Human Rights has incuded in the Constitution of the Republic Indonesia UUD-RI 1945. The history of the Indonesian nation records the occurrence of various gross human rights violations such as crimes against humanity that occurred in East Timor, Aceh, Jakarta and in some other areas that have not completed the handling, whereas in the field of legislation of the Government of Indonesia has made various efforts to make laws and ratify them from various international instruments on human rights. This is due to the unrelated legislation existing with the political will of the government. Political science is concerned with the state's governance, State’s governance deals with key officials setting policy directions including human rights policies. For the public it is important to study political science so that the public can contribute to the political will of the government in the field of law enforcement of human rights in Indonesia.

Abstract:
This reflective paper aims to discuss the importance of using a cultural approach to resolve political conflicts and see the past as a learning space to create a civilization in the present and future. In the context of conflict, Aceh has become a medium for learning how the political conflict between GAM and the Indonesian government is resolved. The experience of past conflicts, a series of failed negotiations, and the cultural approach to the Helsinki negotiations, in parallel, serve as important lessons and evidence that “historical-humanism” does not work in a vacuum. This article illustrates that a cultural approach is a key to successful negotiations for a resolution. This is due to several things: first, building an estuary of peace with a cultural approach taking into account the representations and interests of the two conflicting parties, related to technicalities and mechanisms and matters of a substantive nature. Second, understanding and appreciating the perspective of others is important to know what messages and aspirations have not been conveyed properly so far. And third, acknowledging past mistakes and sins, then sincerely and boldly apologizing to those who were hurt, is a form of acknowledging regret for what has been done.

Abstract:
Many archeological sites that exist today are associated with catastrophic events in the past. Some archeological remains were found buried in volcanic ash materials, flood deposits, and even it related to tsunami that was happened in the past. For example, a paleotsunami research that was conducted in the western coast of Aceh has identified that one of the paleotsunami occurance which happened in 15th century might have responsible for the cultural hiatus in the northern of Sumatra during that century. It was hypothesized that the 15th century’s tsunami destroyed the pre-15th century civilizations and cultures. Unfortunately, the study of disaster geoarcheology especially in Indonesia is not a popular research topic, the connection between the archeological remains with the occurrence of disaster is still not properly discovered. Through the geoarcheological studies, not only the community response to the disaster can be identified but also the recurrence interval of the disaster can be predicted. For example, in Simeuleu, Aceh, the local wisdom of smong, a tradition that still exists today, has been proven to save many lives from tsunamis. In this paper, examples of geoarcheological studies will be discussed. Our understanding of the history of the archeological sites and their connection with the disaster is an important aspect and this information must be applied for the disaster mitigation and expected to be able to support achieving the goal of sustainable development.

Abstract:
The impact of globalization has penetrated throughout the civilization of the nations of the world, running so fast. Especially very influential on changes in various lines of life. Related to this is the issue of increasing narcotics abuse and narcotics illicit trafficking which has created conditions that have hindered the development process and weakened civilization. Eradication of narcotics distribution is a national problem, because it has a negative impact that can damage and threaten the lives of the people, nation and state and can hamper the national development process. The rise of narcotics abuse does not only occur in big cities, but has reached small cities in all ten regions of the Republic of Indonesia, including East Aceh Regency. The increasingly diverse lifestyle of the people due to the influence of globalization also contributes to the increasing circulation of narcotics in East Aceh District. This certainly must receive serious attention, because if we look at what is happening in East Aceh District and several other regions in Indonesia, the crime of narcotics distribution from time to time always increases which in the end is increasingly unsettling the community, so before these things increase In East Aceh District, an effective solution must be found to eradicate it. Factors that cause a person to commit a narcotics crime in East Aceh Regency are due to economic factors where a person needs money to live and the difficulty of getting work, family environmental factors, social environmental factors and availability / lack of supervision factors. Efforts in tackling narcotics circulation in East Aceh district involve many parties, including: firstly, pre-emptive efforts by providing counseling in the community and schools about narcotics carried out by the police in tackling narcotics crime in East Aceh District. Second, preventive measures (prevention) by conducting raids and patrols routinely, providing oversight of the association and positive activities carried out by the police, prosecutors, religious leaders, community leaders and youth organizations. The third repressive effort (action) which aims to provide a deterrent effect on the perpetrators of drug trafficking crimes involving all law enforcement officials ranging from the Police, Attorney and District Courts and Detention Houses. Keywords: Crimonology, Narcotics Circulation.
