São Luís: Academia Maranhense de Letras/ CEUMA Universidade, 2007, 263p. A Academia Maranhense de Letras, fundada em 1908, completou, em 1958, seus 50 anos. Em 2007, seu então presidente, Joaquim Itapary e um grupo do sodalício desejaram publicar, em técnica fac-similar, a edição lavrada em 1958.O propósito residiu em que, como diz o seu presidente: “Esta é uma obra rara, de edição esgotada. É, para a academia, um documento de alto valor relativo à sua história. Em razão dessa inegável significação histórica, a Comissão Editorial decidiu republicá-la, preservando, assim, a integridade do texto original.”Solicitada a participação da Universidade CEUMA, esta fez editar trezentos exemplares a título de colaboração.O livro contém cento e quatro autores, prosadores e poetas, professores, advogados etc., com suas respectivas bibliografias.Como se observa, houve uma ideia feliz dos organizadores em casar as biografias com um texto de um dos trabalhos produzidos, de maneira que o leitor se informa sobre os lances vivenciais dos escritores e suas obras.Assim sendo, somos sabedores de mil e uma peripécias a respeito da vida dos acadêmicos, por exemplo: sobre Gonçalves Dias, fica-se sabendo que foi filho “de um reinol transmontano, comerciante de profissão, e de uma mestiça”; de Raimundo Teixeira Mendes, o leitor fica a par de que “estudou primeiramente num colégio jesuíta do Rio e, em seguida, no Pedro II, demonstrando sempre inteligência viva e aplicação incomum”. Como se observa, uma galeria de fatos e fenômenos humanos interessantíssimos. À página 257, o ex-presidente da República, José Sarney Costa, é analisado em um poema singular, lavrado para sua filha Roseana. Assim, sabemos que ela era e é “anjo e pássaro agora sou/o teu sorriso me prolonga/além do dia, além da noite”.Portanto, a Antologia da Academia Maranhense de Letras, em sua edição cinquentenária, mais do que um documento cultural, é uma amostra irretorquível de carinho pelos nossos escritores, de cuidado pela nossa cultura e de acendrado civismo e amor eterno pelo Maranhão.

A Academia Brasileira de Letras, entidade fundada em 1897, manteve-se incólume à presença feminina até 1976, ano em que o Art. 17 do Regimento Interno, que até então restringia a eleição aos "brasileiros do sexo masculino", é alterado, assegurando às mulheres a possibilidade de candidatura. Tendo isto em vista, o presente artigo pretende analisar os bastidores do ingresso de Rachel de Queiroz, primeira mulher a sagrar-se imortal, em 1977.

Resumo Este artigo dedica-se a examinar a escrita feminina no jornal Letras Sergipanas da Academia Sergipana de Letras (ASL), no período de 1984 a 1989, evidenciando as temáticas e o protagonismo de professoras imortais da Academia Sergipana de Letras. O marco temporal corresponde aos anos da primeira e da última edição do periódico, identificadas e utilizadas neste estudo. Por meio de pesquisa documental foram identificadas 28 edições do jornal Letras Sergipanas na hemeroteca do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Sergipe (IHGSE) e no Arquivo Público do Estado de Sergipe (Apes). A participação de mulheres no sodalício ocorreu somente em 1978, com a posse da professora Núbia Marques. No século XX foram eleitas imortais as professoras Ofenísia Freire (1980); Maria Thétis Nunes (1983); Carmelita Pinto Fontes (1984); Giselda Morais (1992) e Maria Lígia de Madureira Pina (1998). Essas professoras, exceto Giselda Morais, publicaram no jornal Letras Sergipanas. Foram 53 publicações femininas no período estudado, abordando diferentes temáticas, sendo as mais recorrentes: literatura sergipana, biografias e poesias. Neste sentido, a estratégia de divulgação de trabalhos dessas professoras no periódico contribuiu para a visibilidade de suas produções literárias e a ampliação do capital cultural.

Evanildo Bechara é Professor Titular e Emérito da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) e da Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Atuou, por décadas, nos cursos de pós-graduação e de aperfeiçoamento para professores universitários e de ensino fundamental e médio oferecidos pelo Liceu Literário Português, de onde é Vice-Presidente Cultural, além de ministrar palestras sobre Educação e Língua Portuguesa em escolas e universidades dentro e fora do país. É membro do Comitê Científico da Associação Internacional dos Colóquios da Lusofonia, como representante da Academia Brasileira de Letras; membro da Comissão Nacional do Brasil junto ao Instituto Internacional de Língua Portuguesa (IILP); membro da Academia Brasileira de Filologia; Sócio correspondente da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa; Doutor honoris causa da Universidade de Coimbra; membro da Société de Linguistique Romane; membro da Academia Brasileira de Letras e da Comissão de Lexicologia e Lexicografia da mesma instituição; e o representante bra­sileiro do Acordo Ortográfico vigente. Recentemente, em sua homenagem, foi instituída pelo Instituto de Letras da UERJ a Cátedra Evanildo Bechara, criada para promover eventos sobre Língua Portuguesa e estudos linguísticos no Brasil e em outros países.

La revista LETRAS ofrece en este número un interesante documento, escrito por el ilustre filólogo, lingüista y poeta Arturo Agüero Chaves (1907-2001), en el que se hace un minucioso e interesante recuento de la trayectoria de la Academia Costarricense de la Lengua. Agüero le dio un particular impulso a esa corporación, de la que fue su Director durante muchos años. El documento que aquí se reproduce, redactado hacia 1989, pone en una nueva perspectiva el trabajo llevado a cabo por quienes han integrado en sus diversas etapas esa institución. Se completa esta sección con la nómina histórica de quienes sucesivamente han ocupado las diecinueve sillas de la Academia, desde su fundación en 1923. LETRAS agradece a la actual Academia Costarricense de la Lengua la cesión de esos documentos y su autorización para publicarlos en este número.

O presente trabalho trata da invenção da cidade de Sobral - CE como cidade letrada, enobrecida e intelectual, a partir das atividades da Academia Sobralense de Estudos e Letras - ASEL, fundada em 1943, no influxo das mudanças perpetradas na cidade quando de seu aniversário de centenário em 1941. Nosso recorte temporal compreende o período que vai de 1943, data inicial da ASEL, até 1973, data em que se comemorou o bicentenário de Sobral, evento organizado pela Academia. Nesta perspectiva são analisados os fatores de construção do arquivo que enseja a invenção do que seria a cidade letrada, na confluência de textos literários tais como o romance Luzia-Homem (1903), de autoria de Domingos Olímpio, e históricos, como o livro de Monsenhor Fortunato Alves Linhares, Notas históricas da cidade de Sobral - 1712-1922 (1945), que investe no sentido de estabelecer o lugar da Vila Distinta e Real de (1773) como um dos marcos da cidade intelectual. A estratégia visava fazer do passado o lugar da história de Sobral. Dentro de uma concepção teórica e metodológica ligada a História Intelectual de caráter francesa, tratamos da análise das sociabilidades literárias, a organização dos intelectuais, o investimento na tentativa de entendimento dos seus modos de filiação, de seus interesses, manifestações e análise de discursos, nesse sentido a importância da utilização de autores como Jean-François Sirinelli, Helenice Rodrigues da Silva e Ângela de Castro Gomes, entre outros. Com esta pesquisa pretendeu-se contribuir para a pluralização das interpretações sobre a história de Sobral, compreendendo essa história a partir das experiências letradas organizadas pela ASEL.

A partir de alguns estudos sobre a Academia Brasileira de Letras entidade fundada no Rio de Janeiro, em 1897 , é possível chegar a uma imagem já muito conhecida, porém pouco questionada: a de um espaço cuja compleição é marcadamente androcêntrica. Ainda que a associação entre Academia e dominação masculina possa parecer um tanto apressada, há um conjunto de implicações sociológicas nela inscritas que merecem ser descortinadas e problematizadas. Cabe-nos, assim, percorrer os caminhos teórico-analíticos que nos possibilitem apreender os matizes que tal correlação encoberta, tendo em vista as prerrogativas de gênero. Para tanto, nosso ponto de partida, situado no encalço de alguns déficits documentais, será o período de consolidação da ABL, que assiste à cogitação do nome de uma mulher para figurar entre seus membros fundadores. Trata-se da escritora Júlia Lopes de Almeida que, logo em seguida, viu-se excluída da relação final de agremiados. Também dedicaremos especial atenção a 1930, ano em que a escritora Amélia Beviláqua propõe candidatura à Academia, obtendo como resposta um sonoro não. Além destes episódios, que representam verdadeiros vazios institucionais, buscaremos evidenciar as mudanças que se processaram na Casa de Machado de Assis ao longo do tempo, tendo como ponto de inflexão o ano de 1976, momento em que é aprovada a elegibilidade feminina, alteração regimental esta que fora sucedida pela exígua presença de mulheres até os dias atuais, mais especificamente, pelo ingresso de seis escritoras: respectivamente Rachel de Queiroz, Dinah Silveira de Queiroz, Lygia Fagundes Telles, Nélida Piñon, Zélia Gattai e Ana Maria Machado. A partir do quadro construído, procuraremos mostrar se a referida modificação no Regimento Interno foi sintomática de uma alteração nos contornos tradicionais e conservadores da ABL, ou se as circunstâncias e motivações que orientaram tais ingressos resultam de forças sociais ratificadoras do cânon literário.
From some studies about the Brazilian Academy of Letters an institute established in Rio de Janeiro in 1897 , we can see an image that is widespread but not questioned, i.e., that of a space that tends to be visibly male chauvinist. Although the association of the Brazilian Academy and the male domination may seem to be simplistic, there is in it, in fact, a series of sociological implications that must be scrutinized and questioned. Thus, taking a theoretical and analytical approach vis-à-vis the gender, the aim of this study is to capture the nuances that such an association veils. Therefore, our starting point, which takes into consideration the absence of some documents, will be the period of consolidation of the ABL, when the name of a woman is considered to emerge among its founding members. This woman was the writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida, who immediately afterwards saw herself excluded from the final list of members. Also we will dedicate special attention to 1930, year in which the writer Amélia Beviláqua proposed her candidacy to the ABL and got a sound no as a reply. Besides these occurrences, which represent a true institutional emptiness, we will seek to elucidate the changes that took place in the House of Machado de Assis throughout the years, having as a turning point the year 1976, period in which women eligibility was approved. We will see that such an alteration has been followed, until now, by a rare presence of women, more specifically, by the admission of six writers: Rachel de Queiroz, Dinah Silveira de Queiroz, Lygia Fagundes Telles, Nélida Piñon, Zélia Gattai and Ana Maria Machado. From the resulting frame, we will find out whether the changes made in its statute in 1976 were, finally, indicative of a shift in the traditional and conservative structure of ABL or whether the circumstances and motivation that oriented the attainment of prestige and, consequently, a chair in the Brazilian Academy of Letters was the result of social forces which ratify the literary canon.

This work presents an analysis of the elements that compose the processes of election of members to the Academia Maranhense de Letras - AML, interrogating about which reasons would explain the women's absence in that institution. It takes place a ransom of the representations elaborated for critical literary and for some groups of writers, about the producing of art in western societies, to observe the destined prominence the some writers. With the intention of to observe which elements turned eight women, until the present moment, capable to be chosen for AML, it was analyzed cuttings of life histories collected with some of those writers, and the path of some of them was reconstituted starting from registration in books and newspapers. It is observed that the election process for AML doesn't consider, exclusively, candidates' literary production that intend to compose your group of members. Besides, factors of several inclusions corroborate for the writers' recognition. The small number of women writers is justified for the, still, small participation of women in prominence places in the sections political, juridical, religious, among other, which comes as great importance.
Este trabalho apresenta uma análise dos elementos que compõem os processos de eleição de membros da Academia Maranhense de Letras AML, interrogando sobre quais razões explicariam a ausência de mulheres nessa instituição. Para tanto, realiza-se um resgate das representações elaboradas por críticos literários e por alguns grupos de escritores, sobre o produtor de arte em sociedades ocidentais, para observar o destaque destinado a alguns escritores. Com o intuito de observar quais elementos tornaram as oito mulheres, até o presente momento, aptas a serem eleitas para a AML, analisou-se recortes de histórias de vida coletadas junto a algumas dessas escritoras e reconstituiu-se a trajetória de algumas delas a partir de registro em livros e jornais. Observa-se que o processo de eleição para a AML não considera exclusivamente a produção literária dos candidatos que pretendem compor seu quadro de membros. Além disso, fatores de diversas abrangências corroboram para o reconhecimento de escritores e escritoras. O pequeno número de escritoras justifica-se pela, ainda, pequena participação de mulheres maranhenses em locais de destaque nos setores políticos, jurídicos, religiosos, entre outros, a qual apresenta-se como de grande importância.

This dissertation presents an analysis of personal archives under the gaze of the owner of the archive, seeking grants to enable the best performance of the activities of the professional who handles this type of holdings, showing the status of archival personal within the Archives Administration and discuss principles and methods used in the treatment of these holdings. It also makes possible a discussion of the concepts of the fond and collection by presenting of the constitution of the archive of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, in addition to analyzing the logic of accumulation of personal archives of Marcos Vilaça and Nélida Piñon and their strategies of the perpetuation, as well as the destination they wish to give their archives. It also presents a brief history of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, and the origin and evolution of your Archive.
Esta dissertação apresenta uma análise dos arquivos pessoais sob o olhar do titular do arquivo, buscando subsídios que possibilitem o melhor desempenho das atividades do profissional que lida com esse tipo de acervo, apresentando o estatuto arquivístico dos arquivos pessoais dentro da Arquivologia e discutindo princípios e métodos aplicados no tratamento desses acervos. Possibilita ainda, uma discussão sobre os conceitos fundo e coleção através da apresentação da formação do arquivo dos acadêmicos da Academia Brasileira de Letras, além de analisar a lógica de acumulação dos arquivos pessoais de Marcos Vilaça e Nélida Piñon e suas estratégias de perpetuação, assim como a destinação que pretendem dar aos seus acervos. Será apresentado também um breve histórico da ABL, além da origem e evolução do seu Arquivo.

Apresenta estudo sobre informação e memória na Academia Brasileira de Letras, através da pesquisa acerca dos assuntos documentados nas atas das sessões plenárias de 1920 e 1921, considerando-se a perspectiva histórica da memória coletiva deste grupo, refletindo sua cultura organizacional. Alicerçado na criação de uma base de dados, sistematizando o ciclo informacional da Instituição para facilitar a contextualização dos assuntos analisados, discorrendo sobre os resultados mais relevantes, atenta às propostas da Ciência da Informação e da Organização do Conhecimento para o resgate da memória da Instituição. Os procedimentos adotados revelaram valores e tradições, o comportamento informacional, o compartilhamento de experiências entre todos os integrantes do universo estudado, assim como as fontes que utilizavam à época, bibliográficas, de informação e conhecimento. No universo específico estudado “Comissões Permanentes e Especiais”, foram constatadas ações e debates relevantes, representativos como fonte de restituição da memória. Também é sinalizada a vastidão do universo estudado e a possibilidade descortinada para futuro aprofundamento e pesquisas.
Presents a study about information and memory in the Brazilian Academy of Letters, through research of the documented subjects in the 1920 and 1921 plenary session minutes, considering the historical perspective of the colective memory of this group, reflecting it's organizational culture. Estructured on the creation of a database, systematizing the informational cicle of the institution to ease off the contextualization of the analyzed matters, discoursing about the most relevant results, attentive to the proposals of the Information Science and of the Organization of Knowledge to the retrieval of the Institution's memory. The adopted procedures revealed values and traditions, the informational behavior, the sharing of experiences among all of the members of the studied universe, as the sources that they used in the time, bibliographical, of information and knowledge. In the specific universe studied, Permanent or Especial Comittees, were verified relevant actions and debates, suitables as sources of memory recover. It's also shown the amplitude of the studied universe and the unveiled possibility for further studies and researches.

The present thesis consists in a study of the Rio-Grandense Academy of Letters, reviewing its history and production, based on Itamar Even-Zohar’s polysystem theory. The material hereby analysed is based on primary sources originated by the Academy itself and focuses on data about the institution’s history, membership, and periodical journal, which has been in circulation since 1910. This study uses the selected corpus to highlight the way in which this association comprises a literary system that serves as foundation for a larger one: the rio-grandense literary system.
Esta tese estuda a Academia Rio-Grandense de Letras, resgatando sua história e produção, tendo como base a teoria dos polissistemas, de Itamar Even-Zohar. O material analisado baseia-se em fontes primárias originárias da própria Academia e privilegia dados da história da instituição, seu quadro social e o seu periódico que circula de 1910 até a presente data. Através do corpus selecionado, o estudo evidencia como a agremiação consiste em um sistema literário que alicerça outro maior: o sistema literário rio-grandense.

Através da poética telúrica, escrita pelos poetas-membros da Academia Sul-Mato-Grossense de Letras, propomos discutir questões de identidade e representação. Nosso estudo tem como recorte temporal as décadas de 1980, 1990 e 2000 e concentra-se somente em textos poéticos publicados nos dois periódicos da Academia: o Suplemento Cultural e a Revista da Academia Sul-Mato-Grossense de Letras. O olhar investigativo está focado nos aspectos literários dos textos e a discussão parte do princípio de que o conteúdo desta poética permite verificar, em termos de representação, a identidade cultural do povo sul-mato-grossense, entendendo-se por identidade cultural o sentimento de pertença a um espaço. Para a leitura analíticointerpretativa dos textos poéticos nos apropriamos, basicamente, da teoria dos estratos, contida em A obra de arte literária, de Roman Ingarden.
Through telluric poetic, written by poets belonging to Sul-Mato-Grossense Letters Academy, we propose to discuss questions on identity and representation. The study has got as temporal cut the decades of 1980,1990 and 2000 and focus only on poetic texts published on the two Academy journals: Suplemento Cutural and a Revista Academia Sul-Mato-Grossense de Letras. The investigative look centers on the texts literary aspects, and the discussion is based on the assumption that the poetic content can reveal, in terms of representation, the sul-matogrossense people cultural identity, having cultural identity as belonging feeling related to a space. To the poetic texts analytical-interpretative reading, we used, basically, the Roman Ingarden's strata-layers' theory.

Esta tese objetiva analisar questões que se apresentam na fronteira entre história e literatura tendo a Academia Pernambucana de Letras (APL) e seus fundadores como fio condutor da problemática central: Como se constituiu o campo literário na virada do século XIX para o século XX na cidade do Recife? As fontes consultadas para constituir a narrativa foram revistas literárias, jornais, almanaques, livros de romances, crônicas, folhetins, poesia, contos, bem como um diálogo com a historiografia que versa a respeito da literatura brasileira, do livro e da leitura. A partir de um suporte teórico e metodológico da História Cultural, em especial de conceitos de autores como Pierre Bourdieu, Michel de Certeau, Roger Chartier e do trabalho prosopográfico sugerido por Laurence Stone procurou-se enxergar a literatura de determinado período como fonte e como meio para entender as relações pessoais, os jogos sentimentais, o imaginário de um grupo social e as práticas sociais. Investigouse também as práticas de produção e circulação da literatura de ficção elaborada pelos literatos que viveram no Recife durante o período de transição do século XIX para o XX. É um trabalho que buscou contribuir para minimizar a vacância de pesquisas que existe nos estudos sobre a literatura pernambucana no período em tela e ao fazer uso de escritos existentes em arquivos diversos e de um aparato historiográfico denotou-se a necessidade de conhecer a constituição do campo literário recifense e suas nuances.
This thesis aims to analyze issues that arise on the border between history and literature with the Pernambuco Academy of Letters (APL) and its founders as a guide the central problem: As was the literary field at the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century in the city Recife? The sources consulted to constitute the narrative were literary magazines, newspapers, almanacs, books of novels, essays, pamphlets, poetry, short stories, as well as a dialogue with historiography which deals about the Brazilian literature, books and reading. From a theoretical and methodological support of cultural history, especially the concepts of authors such as Pierre Bourdieu, Michel de Certeau, Roger Chartier and prosopographical work suggested by Laurence Stone tried to see the specific literature period as a source and as a means to understand personal relationships, sentimental games, the imagination of a social group and social practices. It also investigated the production and circulation practices of fiction literature prepared by writers who lived in Recife during the XIX century transition period to the twentieth. It is a work that sought to help reduce the vacancy of research that exists in studies of Pernambuco literature in the period screen and make use of existing written in multiple files and a historiographical apparatus is denoted a need to know the structure of the field Recife literary and its nuances.

Com efeito, a criação dessa Academia, por Dom João V, em dezembro de 1720, foi momento singular no processo de formação e consolidação de um grupo de intelectuais2 que se reunia em torno do monarca e nele encontrava seu principal mecenas (Mota, 2003). Ela era sintoma evidente da formação, em Portugal, de uma República de Letras de viés iluminista. Mas existiria mesmo um Iluminismo em Portugal por essa época?

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose. This study aims to explore undergraduate IS students’ employability skills development while performing their final capstone project during their academic studies. Background. The importance of soft skills in the Information Systems industry is not an arguable fact and has been broadly discussed both in the industry and the academic literature. The ability of professionals to collaborate, communicate, manage time, negotiate, solve problems, make decisions, and self-learning, called employability skills, are essential skills needed in today’s industry. The development of these skills during undergraduate studies is essential for graduate students’ readiness for work. Methodology. A mixed methods approach was employed using exploratory research design, including qualitative and quantitative approaches. First, a qualitative analysis of 156 reflections was performed, resulting in the conceptual framework of facets. Then, a quantitative analysis of the data was performed to examine the facets and the differences between the stages of the capstone project. Contribution. This study contributes to both academy and industry. The former may use this study’s findings to upgrade academy courses and capstone projects in order to raise students’ readiness for the industry. The later may learn the approaches the academy use and give appropriate feedback. Findings. The results showed that students’ reflections on their motivation, knowledge, and skills (teamwork, time management, and inter-communication) demonstrate the importance of those facets in the process they underwent, especially since the reflections collected were unstructured. Recommendations for Practitioners. Information Systems undergraduate academic programs should develop structured capstone projects to provide the students with a better platform to learn and experience the employability skills the industry requires. Recommendations for Researchers . The study presents a conceptual model based on students’ reflections on their experience performing a capstone project. The impact and influence of each of the model’s components should be further researched and measured. Impact on Society. Moreover, it is very important to prepare the students for employability by including a “real-life” capstone project at the end of their undergraduate studies to prepare them to be valuable in the workforce, even at their start point as juniors. Future Research. To evaluate the process of employability skills development, a further study can examine students’ perceptions prior to the capstone, during, and after to assess the progress and changes. To generalize the results, it would be valuable to investigate whether the findings of this study are consistent across different institutions and disciplines.

Evidence matters for the effectiveness of public policies,but important informational frictions—that is, resistanceto obtaining or using information on the subject at hand—sometimes prevent it from shaping policy decisions.Hjort et al. (2021) showed that reducing those frictionscan change not only political leaders’ beliefs but alsothe policies they implement. One-way information, fromresearch to policy, may sometimes be insufficient, though.Policymakers may be agnostic about the effectiveness ofan intervention, or they may not know which of its featuresrequire adjustment. A process of policy experimentationmay be needed (Duflo 2017), in which policies arerigorously evaluated at a small scale, the findings of those evaluations inform the policy design, and a new evaluation determines the effectiveness of a fine-tuned version of the intervention, with the assessment continuing until the program is ready to be scaled up. This process requires very close collaboration among government, implementers, and researchers. The means by which evidence is produced is also important. A frequent criticism of researcher-designed interventions is that results may not be relevant. One reason is that pilot programme’s participants or circumstances may be atypical, with the result that the experimental treatment, even if implemented with fidelity, may not achieve similar outcomes in other settings (Al Ubaydli et al. 2017; Vivalt 2017). A second reason is that governments may lack the capability to implement with fidelity interventions tested in randomized control trials. A partnership between policymakers and researchers can help attenuate these concerns. A recent experience in Colombia provides a good example of such a partnership at work. “Let’s All Learn to Read” is an ambitious programme to improve literacy skills among elementary schoolchildren (Grades K–5). Spearheaded by the Luker Foundation, a local nongovernmental organisation, in collaboration with the Secretary of Education of Manizales (Colombia), the programme began with a systematic data collection effort in the municipality’s public primary schools to understand why students were failing to acquire the most basic academic skills. This led to several interventions over many years during which multidisciplinary teams of researchers working in close collaboration with local stakeholders and policymakers designed and evaluated different features of the programme.
