Abstract:
One of the priority areas of the research activity of the Russian State Library (RSL), in particular its scientific bibliographic activity, is currently the study “Information and bibliographic activity of Russian libraries (theoretical and practical aspects)”. Relevance of the research is caused by the fact that information and bibliographic activity refers to the main activities of libraries of various types and kinds. Libraries create bibliographic information for wide distribution, provide bibliographic services to their readers (subscribers). Bibliographic information is also used in various particular library processes (acquisition, library and information services, organization of mass events, etc.). The article considers the results of the analysis of the R&D object — bibliographic (information and bibliographic) activity of libraries as a system object (essence, boundaries, objects and subjects of activity, internal structure, etc.). The analysis was carried out on the basis of theoretical concepts developed by the domestic bibliography science, as well as the modern terminological system of the library and information sphere, fixed in national standards. The author identified and analysed the main directions of bibliographic activity in the library (library bibliography): bibliographic processing of library collections (library bibliographic cataloguing); formation of reference and bibliographic tool; creation of bibliographic resources and products of “non-catalogue” type (indexes, lists, reviews, etc.); bibliographic service; bibliographic education; scientific and methodological activities in the field of bibliography.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study the organizational aspects of advertising and information presentation of modern public libraries on the Internet. The main tasks of the work are the research of the state of the problem studying; analysis of the peculiarities of the modern libraries’ representation in cyberspace; research of advertising and information support methods of the regional library; creating and filling the library's Instagram page. The methodology uses the tools of the modeling method: problem statement, creation, and analysis of the model. The application of the integrity principles, hierarchy, and structure makes it possible to consider the library's page on the social network Instagram as part of the library promotion. The scientific novelty of the work is the expansion of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in presenting the libraries’ activities in social networks and the impact of the latter on the involvement of young people in libraries. The article considers the main aspects of popularization of the regional library in the social network Instagram. Conclusions. The study showed that by using social networks as a tool for presentation in cyberspace, library institutions promptly inform visitors about current library news, provide round-the-clock access to information resources and provide remote reference and information services.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to understand the Return on Investment (ROI) of academic libraries. It shows different aspects of returns on investment from academic libraries (ROI concept, components, calculating ROI). The study helps the academic libraries to know the efficiency, performance and achievement in terms of students, research scholars, teachers and staff should be enhanced to increase returns on library investment. Design/methodology/approach This research paper discusses various formulas for calculating ROI from the academic library, like the general ROI formula, the concept of origin ROI's formula and models. However, the study set forth some of the limitations. The study is limited to the ROI analysis of academic Libraries. It is believed that study may be helpful to the libraries to understand the concept of return on investment to offer better library services. Findings The study helps understands the concept of return on investment from academic libraries and services. In times of economic crisis and budgetary constraints, Library Advocacy needs to determine the economic value of resources in institutions to assist in decision-making. This paper presents more extensive study aimed at recognizing the importance of academic libraries. The economic and social pressure to affirm the position of libraries in academic libraries depends on demonstrating their importance, especially in terms of return on investment. Though it is important to get insight into returns, it has several challenges which are outlined and discussed. Originality/value This research can also be useful in decision-making, library collection development and system analysis of the institutional library. ROI presents an essential parameter for increasing the ranking system of the institution. ROI is considered the most important metrics for evaluating the value of libraries is the return on investment.

Library collections make the core of every library. The author investigates into the theoretical aspects of library collection development as promoted by modern Russian library studies. She specifies the series of principled rules which names and contents reflect both the current needs of libraries and their collections as well as researchers’ suggested solutions. Quite simple classification of library collection development principles is suggested: division them into general, or intrinsic to every library, and special principles - those realized by specific library types.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study modern university libraries as centres of communication through the prism of scientific and social aspects. Research methodology. To implement this task, some theoretical and general scientific research methods were used, among which we note the analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction, and concretization. Equally important was the method of comparison, which was used to compare the practice of using university libraries in Ukraine and other European countries. The method of abstraction used in the analysis of general theoretical approaches and the formation of recommendations for the use of university libraries in modern higher education institutions in Ukraine involves the ascent from abstract ideas to concrete facts. Scientific novelty. For the first time, an important and underestimated development vector of the scientific space of university libraries was noted, which will allow optimizing their activities in the future, transforming them from ordinary reading rooms into a creative scientific space, profitable and accessible to visitors. Conclusions. The article considers the peculiarities of the modern university libraries functioning through the prism of the communicative function. The main focus is on the transformation of the library space and its focus on modern requirements for the formation of creative “territory” for scientific conferences, including international, free exchange of views during student tournaments, excursions and celebrations, seminars or lectures, etc. It has been established that university libraries in modern conditions are universal institutions that perform much broader functions of information retrieval than previously thought. Until now, the academic community has not been sufficiently aware of this process. As the analysis of several projects has shown, in modern conditions it is possible to further develop this aspect.

Abstract:
Essential premises and problems of the Library and Information Science (LIS) paradigms’ shift (uncertainty of scientific boundaries and fragmentation; various historical, sociological and organizational conditions) are analyzed on the case of Vilnius University. Since 1949 Lithuanian university studies and research in the field of LIS had experienced few changes (periods of paradigm shift), that essentially had been preconditioned by general LIS and society’s development tendencies. The case of Vilnius University allows us detect humanitarian, sociological, informational and communicational paradigms. Their formation takes the background in the epistemological relations of LIS to the other sciences and in the necessity to solve practical problems of libraries as well as other information institutions. One of the major challenges that LIS has to face is the requirement to research complicated questions: information services to the society in general as well as individuals; information needs; work of information institutions. Multidimensional problems of LIS field require interdisciplinary view as well as methodological and theoretical transformations. Constant interaction of LIS with other science fosters interdisciplinary research fields and threatens the integrity of LIS on theoretical and methodological levels. Instability of LIS status displays itself not only in theoretical, but also in organizational aspects. Uncertain limits of LIS and tight relations with other sciences enforce dissociation or integration of academic units, while extensive amount of research tasks in LIS field is hardly being performed due to the lack of personnel.

Abstract:
The author responds to the article by Elena I. Kozlova and Valentina A. Tsvetkova "Terminological aspects in the processes of standardization of library and information activities" (published in the journal "Scientific and technical libraries", № 3, 2020) devoted to the draft state standard of basic terms and definitions of library and information activities. The author objects to their interpretation of mathematical induction method in formal logic, by which they justify the attempt to standardize the concept of "library and information activities". Through this method, the opposite result would be achieved; redundancy or even artificiality of the proposed phrase is demonstrated consequentially. The author argues that, within the framework of the Federal Law "On librarianship", the term "library and information activity" as proposed for federal standardization along with the term "information and library activity" as it appears in the current standard, are both wrongful. The author also criticizes other theoretical and methodological provisions proposed by the state standard writers. The author suggests to improve the system of standards for information, library and publishing (SIBID) by segregating the competence areas of information, library and publishing activities, without mixing them in any proportion or combination. SIBID must comprise the concepts of "library" and "publishing", since these terms are embedded in the name of the system and, therefore, they make the original reference points. The terminology set must be based on the key terms of laws and other national regulatory and legal acts, though the definitions of these terms may differ, and even radically differ, from those fixed in legal acts where they convey juridical conceptions while the standard is to regulate their professional, scientific, and practical meaning, which indeed completely corresponds to the legal interpretation. The author introduces the following approach to these general terms: since the library system is essentially of document and communicative character, the key concepts of the system shall form its foundation: library, librarianship, document, library collection, reader (user), reader (user) group, material and technical resources of library, library re-source studies, library model, library collection model, and other general terms within the discipline.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this article is to offer a new perspective on library instruction by examining its relationship with various aspects of theatrical performance. Design/methodology/approach – The author uses personal observations as inspiration to examine what has been written in scholarly literature about various theatrical practices in instruction, applying the conversation to the library instruction context. Additionally, research from business and professional literature is also incorporated into the discussion. This literature review focuses on three general areas. First, a review on how to use tools and perspectives from the theater to help librarians prepare their lessons; second, an examination of the librarian as performer; and third, a discussion on how theater might help librarians deal with repetition and burnout. Findings – The literature on this subject has been extensive and includes an all-encompassing range of practical suggestions, research findings and theoretical analyses. Research limitations/implications – This article looks at this subject through the lens of scholarly literature. Empirical research on this topic is still needed. Practical implications – The author presents a number of theatrical practices librarians might consider incorporating into their instruction sessions. Originality/value – Much has been written about the connection between teaching and theatrical performance, but seldom from a librarian’s point of view. This article is of value to librarians looking to develop a memorable one-shot instruction session and those looking to examine the connection between teaching and performance.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Information presentation in a digital library plays important role especially in improving the usability of collections and helping users to get started with the collection. One approach is to provide an overview through large topical category hierarchies associated with the documents of a collection. But with the growth in the amount of information, this manual classification becomes a new problem for users. The navigation through the hierarchy can be a time-consuming and frustrating process. In this master thesis, we examine the performance of machine learning algorithms for automatic text classification. We examine three learning algorithms namely ID3, Instance Based Learning, and Naive Bayes to classify documents according to their category hierarchies. We focused on the effectiveness measurement such as recall, precision, the F1- measure, error, and the learning curve in learning a manually classified metadata collection from the Indonesian Digital Library Network (IndonesiaDLN), and we compare the results with an examination of the Reuters-21578 dataset. We summarize the algorithm that is most suitable for the digital library collection and the performance of the algorithms on these datasets.

Abstract:
Achievements in any transformation in libraries mostly depend on the positive attitude and involvement of the library professionals. It is significant to understand the human factors involved in the process for successful and meaningful commencing of IT in libraries. This study measured the attitude of university library professionals of Bangladesh toward IT. It identified how the socioeconomic variance influenced the attitude of library professionals to use of IT applications, and also examined how the experience with IT has influenced on these attitudes. It illustrated that some socioeconomic variables influenced library professionals' attitude. There were disparity among library professionals who have experience to competency, work performance, anxiety and acceptance. To accelerate the positive attitude, highest priority should be given on the continuing education of library professionals. Top management’s positive attitude and comfort levels toward technology will help the mid and entry level professionals to be skillful at creative applications of IT. The analyses should help the policy maker to improve the IT competencies of the library professionals.

Morris, Steven A. "Unified mathematical treatment of complex cascaded bipartite networks: The case of collections of journal papers." Thesis, 2005. http://eprints.rclis.org/6714/1/2005_morris_thesis.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study, a mathematical treatment is proposed for analysis of entities and relations among entities in complex networks consisting of cascaded bipartite networks. This treatment is applied to the case of collections of journal papers. In this case, entities are distinguishable objects and concepts, such as papers, references, paper authors, reference authors, paper journals, reference journals, institutions, terms, and term definitions. Relations are associations between entity-types such as papers and the references they cite, or paper authors and the papers they write. An entity-relationship model is introduced that explicitly shows direct links between entity-types and possible useful indirect relations. From this a matrix formulation and generalized matrix arithmetic are introduced that allow easy expression of relations between entities and calculation of weights of indirect links and co-occurrence links. Occurrence matrices, equivalence matrices, membership matrices and co-occurrence matrices are described. A dynamic model of growth describes recursive relations in occurrence and co-occurrence matrices as papers are added to the paper collection. Graph theoretic matrices are introduced to allow information flow studies of networks of papers linked by their citations. Similarity calculations and similarity fusion are explained. Derivation of feature vectors for pattern recognition techniques is presented. The relation of the proposed mathematical treatment to seriation, clustering, multidimensional scaling, and visualization techniques is discussed. It is shown that most existing bibliometric analysis techniques for dealing with collections of journal papers are easily expressed in terms of the proposed mathematical treatment: co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling analysis, author co-citation analysis, journal co-citation analysis, Braam-Moed-vanRaan (BMV) co-citation/co-word analysis, latent semantic analysis, hubs and authorities, and multidimensional scaling. This report discusses an extensive software toolkit that was developed for this research for analyzing and visualizing entities and links in a collection of journal papers. Additionally, an extensive case study is presented, analyzing and visualizing 60 years of anthrax research through a collection of journal papers. When dealing with complex networks that consist of cascaded bipartite networks, the treatment presented here provides a general mathematical framework for all aspects of analysis of static network structure and network dynamic growth. As such, it provides a basic paradigm for thinking about and modeling such networks: computing direct and indirect links, expressing and analyzing statistical distributions of network characteristics, describing network growth, deriving feature vectors, clustering, and visualizing network structure and growth.

Abstract:
The study evaluates the movement for library legislation in Kerala. Kerala is a State with a strong and unique library movement. The history of the movement for library legislation and the evolution of the library law in Kerala through various stages are discussed in detail. The influences through time and space that finally got deposited in the Act are critically analyzed. The study identifies the historical and socio political trends that may result in enactment of defective library legislations. Stresses on the positive attitudes that decision makers should have in various aspects related to framing of library legislation and suggests the measures for preventing the enactment of defective library legislations. Instead of approaching the State Library Acts of India as independent ones here it is approached as a constituent component of National Level Legislation based on the library development plan prepared by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan for India.

Abstract:
AbstractGenomic-enabled prediction models are of paramount importance for the successful implementation of genomic selection (GS) based on breeding values. As opposed to animal breeding, plant breeding includes extensive multienvironment and multiyear field trial data. Hence, genomic-enabled prediction models should include genotype × environment (G × E) interaction, which most of the time increases the prediction performance when the response of lines are different from environment to environment. In this chapter, we describe a historical timeline since 2012 related to advances of the GS models that take into account G × E interaction. We describe theoretical and practical aspects of those GS models, including the gains in prediction performance when including G × E structures for both complex continuous and categorical scale traits. Then, we detailed and explained the main G × E genomic prediction models for complex traits measured in continuous and noncontinuous (categorical) scale. Related to G × E interaction models this review also examine the analyses of the information generated with high-throughput phenotype data (phenomic) and the joint analyses of multitrait and multienvironment field trial data that is also employed in the general assessment of multitrait G × E interaction. The inclusion of nongenomic data in increasing the accuracy and biological reliability of the G × E approach is also outlined. We show the recent advances in large-scale envirotyping (enviromics), and how the use of mechanistic computational modeling can derive the crop growth and development aspects useful for predicting phenotypes and explaining G × E.

Abstract:
The chapter presents the concept of Enterprise 2.0 in a library environment. This concept describes the use of Web 2.0 tools and approaches by organizations in order to foster internal functions, e.g. communication, collaboration, innovativeness. Various aspects of this concept are tackled including implementation of Web 2.0 technologies for business purposes in a library. Importance of intrapreneurship for implementation of Enterprise 2.0 is suggested. Short theoretical reviews on both intrapreneusrhip and Enterprise 2.0 are followed by some general conclusions on the relationship between these two concepts based on the research results gathered in libraries in Serbia. Results from the ongoing European study on awareness and implementation of Enterprise 2.0 are also presented. The chapter is a valuable companion for anyone interested in the practical aspects of Enterprise 2.0 implementation in a library and presents an addition to librarianship theory by introducing a new idea on the relation between Enterprise 2.0 implementation and intrapreneurship.

Abstract:
For many countries around the world in the period of rapid development of digital technologies, the problems of creating digital resources, expanding the communication space and ensuring free access to digital documentary heritage, providing a regulatory framework for electronic resource management. The cultural heritage of any country is an important component of world cultural attainment. For decades, projects aimed at pre serving and effectively using cultural heritage as a valuable resource for strategic development of states have been developed and implemented. The solution to these problems lies in digitizing monuments, creating digital copies of them, providing online access to digital collections, long-term maintenance and management of digital resources. In this context, foreign experience in implementing digital initiatives is important. Successful projects to digitize documentary monuments are one of the key imperatives of the cultural policy of many countries around the world. A significant number of artifacts are of honorable age, which makes additional demands on the possibility of their use, including monuments of documentary heritage. The conditions stored in the original documents are in many cases far from ideal. It is unknown how long these priceless monuments may still exist. Paper breaks down, ink disappears and information is lost forever. For these reasons, a significant number of artifacts still remain inaccessible. The implementation of projects for the digitization of cultural heritage is aimed primarily at solving the problems of preservation, accounting, providing access to digital copies of monuments, thus expanding the opportunities for effective use of their strategic potential. The subject of the research is the development and implementation of projects for the digitization of cultural heritage sites abroad. The purpose of the study is to focus attention on the legal and methodological support for the development and implementation of foreign projects on documentary heritage. The aim of the article is to focus on the main stages and features of the development and implementation of foreign projects for the digitization of cultural heritage sites. Objectives of the research: to identify and explore the features of development and implementation of foreign projects to create digital content of documentary heritage; to reveal the main stages of creation of digital resources; highlight the possibilities of providing online access to digital copies (images) of documents; reveal ways to maintain and manage digital resources. The methodological basis of the research is a set of general scientific principles of historical, systematic, objectivity, based on an interdisciplinary approach. The main provisions of this work are based on the convergence of museum, archival, library and information and communication technologies. The use of historical and logical approaches provided an opportunity to consider the process of development and implementation of projects for digitization of documentary heritage abroad, to analyze their transformations and dependence on the development of new information technologies. The method of information modeling provided an opportunity to predict the development of electronic libraries and the corresponding management of digital resources. Among the empirical methods in the study, methods of description and comparison were used to gather information. Information-analytical and source-based methods were also used to analyze the legal framework. From empirical-theoretical methods abstraction, analysis, synthesis, induction, deductions are used – to reveal the stages of development of digitization projects. The purpose of the projects of digitization of cultural heritage is to address current issues in modern documentary communications: expanding access to documentary heritage; virtual reconstruction of scattered funds and collections; providing access to unique materials of archives, museums, libraries; preservation of artifacts, especially those at risk of destruction; support of scientific and educational programs, etc. Problems of preservation and access to digitized cultural heritage on the websites of museums, archives and libraries remain relevant in time, in particular in the context of transparency, accessibility, reactivity, availability of electronic images, feedback from users of the website, the volume of digitized documents, social responsibility and trust in the site. The practice of presenting cultural heritage on the sites of museums, libraries and archives of Ukraine indicates the need to develop a single concept of digitization of cultural heritage and the creation of relevant sites. The research, analysis and use of world experience will contribute not only to the most effective implementation of projects to digitize the cultural heritage of Ukraine, but also to ensure its proper preservation and proper presentation on the Internet for public use.

Abstract:
This chapter addresses the collaborative aspects of digital libraries as a special case of Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW). Libraries always had social and cultural roles, and worked as a dedicated place for learning, research and sometimes also for opinion exchange and debates. The Internet era gave birth to digital libraries which can also represent a whole range of collaborative functions. The suitable collaborative functions are different for young students, general public or scientists and also different in the view of the user’s goals, such as finding content, finding answers or creating new content. The collaborative aspects of these library functions are described here in details with typical examples. Despite of these examples, many librarians think that digital libraries failed to ride the waves of emerging web technologies, and current digital libraries cannot serve general information needs well enough, so they are not among the first sources of information and collaboration support any more. An important moment in the evolution of DL systems was the appearance of Web 2.0 technology and social computing. The Web 2.0 brought not only fancier user interfaces, but enriched functionality for building communities and collaborating extensively through the Web. Library 2.0 was the late response of the librarian community for social sites, since Library 2.0 is user-centered, with focus on rich social interactions through multi-media content. Moreover, for many, Library 2.0 is not about technology, but about a new philosophy of constant evaluation and innovation with the help of library users. In fact, Library 2.0 allows the users to change the library in many ways. The challenges for libraries within the Web 2.0 era are summarized here, along with the research issues waiting to be solved, as we think that the prospects of collaborative functionalities are far reaching and they could become a key motivation for using digital libraries.

Abstract:
On the one hand, predictive analytics is an important field of research in information systems; however, research on predictive analytics in healthcare is still scarce in IS literature. One area where predictive analytics can be of great benefit is with regard to unplanned readmissions. While a number of studies on readmission prediction already exists in related research areas, there are few guidelines to date on how to conduct such analytics projects. To address this gap the chapter presents the general process to develop empirical models by Shmueli and Koppius and extends this to the specific requirements of readmission risk prediction. Based on a systematic literature review, the resulting process defines important aspects of readmission prediction. It also structures relevant questions and tasks that need to be taken care of in this context. This extension of the guidelines by Shmueli and Koppius provides a best practice as well as a template that can be used in future studies on readmission risk prediction, thus allowing for more comparable results across various research fields.

Abstract:
A central feature of ubiquitous computing applications is their capability to automatically react on context changes so as to support users in their mobility. Such context awareness relies on models of specific use contexts, embedded in ubiquitous computing environments. However, since most such models are based merely on location and identity parameters, context-aware applications seldom cater for users’ situated knowledge and experience of specific contexts. This is a general user problem in well-known, but yet dynamic, user environments. Drawing on a sequential multimethod study of in-car navigation, this paper explores the role of situated knowledge in designing and using context-aware applications. This focus is motivated by the current lack of empirical investigations of context-aware applications in actual use settings. In-car navigation systems are a type of context-aware application that includes a set of contextual parameters for supporting route guidance in a volatile context. The paper outlines a number of theoretical and practical implications for context-aware application design and use.

Abstract:
A discussion and detailed understanding of the opportunities and challenges creating and managing a scholarly online open access journal lead to practical guidance for librarians who wish to become involved in this mode of scholarly communication. Academic libraries increasingly take the initiative, or are expected to take a leadership role, in advancing scholarly communication and promoting open access. As librarians understand opportunities available to the academy through scholarly open access journals, the library can position itself better to meet these growing expectations in higher education. The introduction profiles the growing emphasis in academic libraries on scholarly communication and open access then discusses the development of Collaborative Librarianship as an example. Matters related to building a team for a scholarly online journal, technical aspects of online journal publishing, and planning and managing content are also addressed. The conclusion identifies opportunities and challenges, and makes general recommendations.

Abstract:
The information architecture as a discipline of information science has been a fertile ground for disagreement about definitions which are mostly based on practical, devoid of epistemological and scientific grounds, where each ”actor” involved seeks to provide tools, techniques and concepts based on their own perspective and personal training that considers more appropriate. This paper argues that the time for a comprehensive definition is reached, based on the definition of Saul Wurman (1997) to synthesize and express in simple terms a collection of linguistic concepts that influence the perception of reality. The ways and means adopted by the discipline of information architecture in its development have in practice, limited their potential and scope. Its potential applicability to understanding the human experience in general and the phenomena of information in particular, remains to be explored. The research aims to contribute to the construction of the discipline of information architecture in terms required by Haverty (2002). The identification of formal theoretical aspects assist in the understanding of the interaction between the elements that compose it, from a systemic perspective, scientific status and key processes that define the discipline as a practice. We propose a definition based on the epistemological framework of phenomenology, by the analogy with the traditional architecture and methodology concept.

Abstract:
Since 1989, the issue of adapting to the new mode of apparition, circulation and consumption of information has become of major interest for librarian's theoretical concerns. Under different appearances, from the programmatic document to the enthusiastic description of software solutions, passing through various shapes of vague or semi-articulate imperative, the digitalization of the libraries has progressively imposed itself as a central theme, widely debated in publications form within the field or on the colloquies' or specialized conferences' agenda. Our intervention aims to investigate in depth this discursive universe, following two main aspects. Firstly, we will try to determine to what extent this discourse is mirroring the general pattern of adapting to the new technological requirements, as it is shown in the western libraries' examples of success and good practices. Secondly, we aim to analyze if and in what way the digitalization process determines changes at other levels, e.g. to what extent the digitalization mantra determines a change in the librarian profession or in the organizational environment. Our approach will proceed in three successive steps. Firstly, following the experience of libraries of the same profile from Europe and the United States of America, we will try to identify a pattern of transition from the traditional to the digitalized library. The second step is dedicated to the analysis of the Romanian serial publications in library science, employing both qualitative (discourse analysis) and quantitative (term frequency analysis) methods in order to determine the semantic structure of the digitization phenomenon. Finally, we will try to establish a connection between theory and reality, which means identifying whether the discourses' normative nature towards digitalization has become or not a common practice in the university libraries.

Abstract:
The article describes the social and pedagogical aspects of training a computer specialist in the modern information space. The features of the virtual environment of activity are considered, attention is paid to the social directions of professional training of a computer specialist, in particular, ethical responsibility. Attention is focused on the nature and types of social consequences and spiritual and cultural changes generated by the informatization of society, determined by the social conditions in which the informatization process takes place, and the problem itself is due to the relationship between the man, computer, and society. The advantages and risks of training professionals in the given specialty are indicated and the main possible approaches are substantiated. It is shown that with the emergence of a new type of information life, which is considered as a general humanitarian philosophical problem, it is necessary to humanize professional education. The problems of the theoretical analysis and determination of the ontological status of virtual reality, the phenomenon of human computer dependence are described. It is indicated that a special responsibility lies with computer specialists, whose professional training should include not only the assimilation of educational material to ensure successful professional activity in the future, but it must take into account the social needs of society.

Abstract:
Design in general is about increasing the information of the product/system. Therefore it is natural to investigate the design process from an information theoretical point of view. In this paper the design process is described as an information transformation process, where an initial set of requirements are transformed to a system specification. Performance and cost are both functions of complexity and refinement, which can be expressed in information entropy. There are essentially two ways of increasing the information content in a system. One is to reduce tolerances in the design parameters. The other way is to increase the design space, by introducing more features into the design. Both of these aspects of increasing information content are discussed through the establishment of a formal framework. In this way, the relationship between concept refinement and design space expansion can be viewed in information theoretical terms. The information theoretical model is demonstrated on examples. The model has practical implications for the balance between number of design parameters, and the degree of convergence in design optimization. It can also be used to give a rough estimate of number of parameters that are needed for a specified degree of accuracy in the optimization result, or the number of parameters that are meaningful to use under uncertainty.

Abstract:
The general stiffness of an underactuated finger as seen from the actuator is a function of its internal compliant elements, such as springs, but also depends on its geometry. In this paper, a complete stiffness analysis of a general underactuated finger is presented. The objective is to shed light on important aspects to consider while designing underactuated fingers and how to take advantage of the finger’s stiffness during grasping, for instance in order to estimate information such as contact location and force magnitude. This is done using the instantaneous-stiffness plane of the finger introduced in this paper. This plane shows the relationship between the finger’s geometry and its instantaneous stiffness and how simple changes in geometrical parameters can have significant effects on the finger’s stiffness. This novel tool can be used for a wide range of underactuated finger architectures as will be shown. First, a theoretical framework including numerical simulations is presented. This is then followed by an optimization example of a finger’s geometry and a discussion.

Abstract:
The article describes an automated algorithm for the formation of a geometric model of the ship's hull surface according to an electronic theoretical drawing. An analysis of the traditional technology for the formation of ship surfaces based on the Russian CAD system (Sea Solution) is presented. The main disadvantages of traditional technology are determined. The automated algorithm for generating a geometric surface model is designed to reduce the complexity of manual design. The mathematical apparatus for constructing NURBS curves and surfaces serves as the instrumental basis of the algorithm, which provides a simple user control of forms. On the basis of a theoretical drawing generated by the CAD system, a cloud of approximation points was created to build the surface of the ship's hull from them. A general scheme of automatic construction of elements of the surface model in the initial approximation is given. To solve this problem, a software product based on HTML5, JavaScript and Three JS and Verb libraries was created. The use of the JavaScript language is due to its versatility, a large amount of information in the public domain. WebGL is used to implement 3D graphics rendering pipeline. Functions from the Three JS libraries made it possible to implement methods used in analytical geometry. The operability of the developed algorithm is demonstrated on the example of building a 3D model of the hull surface of a fishing trawler.

Abstract:
In this paper, an experimental study of the coupling of a 2 degree-of-freedom acoustic medium to a nonlinear visco-elastic membrane under multi-frequency forcing is presented. When the excitation is sinusoidal, we observe classical results: non-linear effects tend to damp pressure in the linear system. When the excitation is quasi-periodic with two frequencies, various aspects of quasi-periodic regimes are observed. Some regimes exhibit only the two excitation frequencies in their spectrum, other display a more complicated, but mostly discrete, spectrum. These stable quasi-periodic regimes can disappear leaving to Strongly Modulated Quasi-Periodic Responses (SMQPR). Various structures have been extracted from SMQPRs using signal processing tools (RMS analysis, Fourier analysis, histogram analysis). They are compared with theory and the NES efficiency is assessed. The system behaves in general as expected: the periodic, quasi-periodic or SMQPR regimes correspond to theoretical findings.

ABSTRACT It is an indisputable fact that the Covid 19 pandemic at the beginning of 2020 negatively impacted the life and health of people and changed the social, public, and economic situation around the world. The education system was also strongly affected and suffered a great number of changes. The measures taken for social isolation lead to a general reorganization of the education process. The lessons in physical education and sport - a compulsory subject of students’ general education also had to be transformed in the emergency situation. The direct form of interaction between the teacher and the students during in-person lessons (the traditional style) had to be reorganized in an online form. Because of the specificity of the subject, namely the motor-cognitive activities of the students during the physical education and sports lessons, learning new knowledge and developing motor skills and habits in an online environment proved to be a great challenge both for students and teachers. Aim of the study: The aim of the present study is to reveal some basic aspects of in-person and online learning in the school subject of physical education and sport. Methods of the scientific study: The following methods for gathering empirical information were applied in the realization of the aim of the study – system approach, content approach, and SWOT analysis. Results of the study: A theoretical model was developed for the achievement of the aim of the study, specifying some aspects of face-to-face and online education. An attempt to compare and analyze the peculiarities of face-to-face and online education is made; the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and online classes in physical education and sports at secondary school are presented. Conclusions: The results from the present study can be used as a basis for future experimental work concerning traditional (in-person) and online education with a focus on the effectiveness of the learning process in physical education and sport and its strategic optimization.

Abstract:
Online technologies provide a myriad of new teaching and learning methods, and while those new technologies have a lot of advantages, the rapid change from face-to-face to online teaching and distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has made certain disadvantages visible, too. This paper focuses on the psychological impact of online learning on students, specifically in connection with the move from a well-known place, the university campus, to an unknown space, the online classroom. It explores why uncertainty and anxiety can result in reluctance to engage, a process that is caused by a lack of social information, low peer bonding possibilities and obstacles to create a sense of belonging. The findings are based on a general, theoretical understanding of psychological aspects that impact the virtual classroom, as well as on observations made during the lockdown period and its subsequent months of online teaching, drawing on concepts from social psychology, i.e. social cognition, social perception and conformity. What has become undoubtedly evident is that while the new technologies create new and creative spaces for teaching and learning, they are by no means free of stress and anxiety.
