Abstract:
Over the last 30 years, environmental education has been part of the curriculum in Southwest Florida public schools. Curriculum objectives, such as, environmental attitude, knowledge, and awareness (AKA), have been investigated in the literature as ways to improve the overall behavior of future citizens toward the environment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the aforementioned objectives among the following groups: environmental specialists, high school instructors, high school students, and the parents of the corresponding students in three Southwest Florida counties during the 2003-2004 school year. An instrument was developed to measure the groups' levels of awareness, knowledge, and attitude as well as their levels of self-efficacy. The returned surveys represented responses from: 27 environmental specialists, 15 high school instructors, 224 high school students, and 222 parents. This study found statistically significant differences among the groups regarding the levels of awareness, knowledge, and attitude as related to environmental issues. The environmental specialists scored highest for all AKA components as compared to the lowest levels presented by parent awareness, parent attitude, and high school student knowledge. In addition, factors such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and preference of leisure activities resulted in differences among the groups regarding their levels of environmental AKA. This study supports the evaluation of AKA levels among participants as an appropriate approach to the evaluation of environmental curriculum objectives. In addition, the study suggests a simplified measurement of AKA as an attempt to unify the parameters measured by numerous instruments found throughout environmental education literature. The results of this study may assist environmental specialists, instructors, and school districts in the evaluation of environmental education curricula.

Abstract:
This project employs participatory action research methods in efforts to create a community specific environmental curriculum for the high school age youth at the only Jain faith community in the North Texas region. Aligned with the community’s goals, the youth led in deciding, creating, and carrying out initiatives that were aimed at increasing the level of awareness about environmental issues amongst community members. The research done by the youth aimed at looking at environmental issues through the lens of Jain doctrine. The final creation of a curriculum as a living document to be used by the youth in efforts to promote critical thinking skills and class discussion continues the participatory model. The curriculum encourages experiential and interpretative learning, which grants ownership of the topics to the youth themselves and ultimately empowering them to learn more and spread the importance of being environmentally friendly.

Abstract:

Environmental problems are seen as the first priority that all countries try to find as a solution to be more sustainable. These issues arise due to the lack of our responsibility to the world. Researchers agree on that the starting point in changing our society to be green is to increase environmental awareness (Jiang et al., 1999). Several sectors accept this idea like UNESCO which focuses on education as a tool to promote sustainable development (UNESCO, 2002).

 

Following UNESCO, our study investigates university students’ environmental awareness. The Authors hope that the outcome not only reflects university performance, but also helps to develop the environment in the future.  Hence, the authors selected the University of Gävle or HiG, as a case study because it is a best practice in Environmental Management System (EMS). Moreover, HiG received the ISO 14001 certificate and it has a continuous improvement program (Sammalisto, 2007, p.69). 

 

The study was started by reviewing research literatures concerning Environmental Management System (EMS), Sustainable Development (SD), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Environmental Awareness. The authors found that there are few studies talking about students’ awareness in universities after being awarded ISO 14001. Notice that the research was seen only from environmental perspective (Flint, 2004).

 

To answer research questions, two surveys were adopted. The first part focused on teachers and officers (or staffs) who work on environmental issues. While, the second part focused on the students which were divided into Swedish and international.

 

The research outcomes indicate that HiG has a good EMS performance supported by annual environmental audits, regular policy revision and the attempts to minimize non-conformities. Conversely, when the authors pointed at student awareness, it shows that students have insufficient environmental knowledge. Moreover, some students have lower environmental awareness and act in a less ecological friendly way. Nevertheless, a knowledge problem was also found among several university staffs. This is because of the lack of communication about environmental issues inside the staffs community and lack of environmental education for students.

 

Whatever the university situation is, there are some groups of staff and students eager to develop themselves and their university. This point of strength could be the best driving force. It can push the university forward until the university reaches sustainable development and it brings the aware graduates into society.

Abstract:
Teaching preschool children about the environment. A comparative study of how two preschools work with environmental issues. My investigations are based on qualitative interviews and observations carried out at two preschools, one of which has a nature and environment profile while the other works in traditional ways with these questions. I sought to explore the ways in which pedagogues in each preschool raise environmental awareness and, more generally, awaken an interest in nature in the children. The consequences of methodological similarities and differences will be considered. This term paper concludes that the difference between an environmental profile preschool and a traditional preschool working on environmental awareness is not large. The knowledge gained by children in the latter preschool surpassed that gained in the former. Another difference was the greater commitment shown by pedagogues working in the traditional preschool. The big difference had to do with the fact that in the traditional preschool more time was spent in talking about environmental issues that in the profile school.

This curriculum was developed by searching numerous manuals for appropriate lessons, developing a cohesive unit, and field testing the lessons on students in two classrooms. The project, as a whole, offers teachers a thematic, multi-disciplinary, hands-on, literature based method of developing students' appreciation and understanding of the world in which they live.

Abstract:

The primary and immediate objective of this educational intervention study is to raise consumer awareness of the impact of under-inflated tires on global warming. The short-term result of this would be the widespread maintenance of proper tire air pressure, the use of low-rolling resistance tires, and the inflation of tires with nitrogen instead of air, which could assist in the reduction of fuel use and resultant CO2 emissions. Such a reduction could have a significant short-term result of benefitting consumers economically and the world environmentally.

Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, a pamphlet and pre- and post-survey questionnaires were employed to collect data from a convenience sample of consumers (N=126). An educational pamphlet was prepared to increase consumer awareness about the importance of how properly inflated tires can be a factor in driver safety, fuel conservation, and the prevention of unnecessary increases in greenhouse gas emissions, which are among the major factors affecting global warming.

Data from the pre-intervention survey provides strong evidence that participants possess insufficient knowledge of general tire care, maintenance, performance and the impact of under-inflated tires on the environment in general and global warming in particular. Statistical analysis demonstrated significant change from pre- to postintervention surveys in the participants’ attitudes and knowledge regarding the maintenance of tire pressure and the impact of under-inflated tires on greenhouse gases and global warming.

The improvement in overall knowledge and attitudes demonstrated in the analysis between pre- and post-survey data indicates greater recognition by the participants that appropriate car care and tire maintenance are essential, and that for consumers, the acquisition and application of this knowledge can be powerful in improving the economy and environment. Suggestions for further study include development of consistent monitoring and data collection processes for use by facilities responsible for automobile care and the development of a broad-based, media-driven consumer education programs on the importance of the studied variables.

Environmental education plays an important role in the preservation and protection of biodiversity but also on the environment. It is for this purpose that the thesis aimed to assess the environmental knowledge and attitudes in school children in urban areas and those in rural areas in three regions of Senegal. This evaluation is focused on interviews with teachers and questionnaires administered to children. On the basis of 786 questionnaires collected in 19 schools including 7 in rural area (317 responding children) and 12 in urban areas (448 responding children), I found that children in rural area had higher environmental knowledge in comparison to those in urban areas, and it was also higher in boys than in girl with the same pattern in rural and urban areas. The level of environmental knowledge did not depend on the age of responding children. Concerning environmental attitudes, children expressed mostly similar attitudes in rural and urban areas and these were mostly negative towards environment. Regarding such results, it is recommendable to address the environmental issues through environmental education programs in order to get better knowledge and to build pro-environmental attitudes. The informal environmental education programs can provide opportunities for schools to improve their knowledge, interests, motivation and encouraged to adopt new attitudes towards the environment. The environmental education increases with theoretical and practical experience.

This study was initiated by an interest in discovering how, if at all, primary school teachers in two European countries perceive and practice environmental education. The thesis describes the historical development of the term 'environmental education', it discusses the main themes of environmentalism today, it refers to the global scene of policies and practices for environmental education, it addresses the status of environmental education in England and in Greece and finally it presents and discusses the conduct and results of an empirical study. The study was undertaken with a sample of primary school teachers in England and in Greece, whose commitment to environmental education was unknown. It follows a qualitative approach based on a semi-structured interview together with some quantitative elements of analysis. The results of the study reveal that even though teachers support education ABOUT the environment, they are not aware of on-going and historic developments in environmental education. Furthermore, they do not have efficient training in environmental education and they lack information about it and about appropriate methods of teaching it. They exhibit anthropocentric rather than ecocentric approaches to environmental issues and also they hold technocentric beliefs concerning the environmental literacy of today's society. Similarities and differences among the English and the Greek teachers emerged from the data collected. These are discussed in terms of the national curriculum of both countries, in terms of international documents, in terms of the type of support offered and how such support is utilised by teachers. The thesis concludes with recommendations concerning the school curricula of both countries and with recommendations for fiirther research.

Waste generation in the United States is at an all time high. Over half of the country’s waste goes to landfill, yet 70 percent of this waste can be recycled or composted. Since landfills pose one of the largest manmade threats to the environment, sustainable waste management strategies should focus on landfill diversion. A successful waste recovery program needs to engage the public, and ensure individuals participate correctly in available waste management systems. This paper sheds light on effective education and awareness strategies used to encourage participation in local waste management systems and promote landfill diversion. By highlighting successful programs employed in San Francisco, a city with the nation’s highest landfill diversion rate, and other communities around the nation, I synthesize a list of measures that can change community behavior surrounding waste management.

Abstract:
The society environment can be understood as a center reorganizing existing conflicts. Being the closest space of acting for students, the school environment is decisive in the learning process of social values. It is believed that in Portuguese classes, where several kinds of texts are studied, the approach to the environmental theme is opportune and its adequacy to the context is plausible. This project has aimed the development of a methodological proposal which provokes and guides the activities, as a pedagogical school project of the Portuguese subject and part of the process of Environmental Education. It believes that the preservation of the society environment depends on the involvement of everybody. The necessity to establish the practice of the environment education in the school was the starting point for this work, independently from which subject is taught. The study of the environment will have more conditions to occur as it promotes a reorganization of contents linked to the social life. It is understood that this generalization of environment practices will only be possible if inserted in the context of social values, even if it relates to the changes of daily habits. Water, in its current approach, the scarcity, was studied in the questioning regarding to the environmental degradation. The uncontrolled consumption, which results in the misuse and consequent sum of garbage, was studied as well. The methodology Planning, Process and Product (PPP) was applied, mainly for evaluating each step continuously, through the formative evaluation, accepting that the stages vary in accordance with the context worked and for ending up the verification of the project in a general manner, with the combined evaluation. With an initial research, using a questionnaire with simple questions, on environment and water, it was perceived that there was a lack of information in some aspects, as for example, the origin of the water that supplies the city, the existing rivers and the pollutants of these rivers. From this initial research some activities such as reports, interpretation of informative texts and advertising, were worked on; as well as visits to public areas with environmental preservation. The same questionnaire was applied at the end of the activities and then it was noticed that students had acquired knowledge about subjects which were unknown by them before. A review of cases was made eight months after the application of this project. According to the answers, the students had conserved the information. Portuguese was used as a vehicle to carry the information about environment and water, in spite of accomplishing the recommended content to the eighth grade. The students got involved in the problem of water shortage; they analyzed the visited places and questioned the procedures as wrong or right. The results had been satisfactory enough.
O ambiente de convívio pode ser entendido como centro, reorganizando conflitos existentes. O convívio escolar, por ser o espaço de atuação mais imediato para o aluno é decisivo na aprendizagem de valores sociais. Acredita-se que nas aulas de Português, por se estudar diversos tipos de textos, a abordagem do tema ambiental é oportuna e sua adequação ao contexto é admissível. Este trabalho visou o desenvolvimento de uma proposta metodológica que induza e oriente as atividades, na forma de projeto pedagógico escolar da disciplina de Português e parte do processo de educação Ambiental. Acredita que a preservação do ambiente de convívio depende do envolvimento de todos. O ponto de partida para este trabalho foi a necessidade de implantar a prática da educação ambiental na escola, independente da disciplina ministrada. O estudo do meio ambiente, junto ao conhecimento terá mais condições de ocorrer, na medida em que se promova uma reestruturação de conteúdos aliados à vida social. Entende-se que essa generalização de práticas ambientais só será possível se estiver inserida no contexto de valores sociais, mesmo que se refira a mudanças de hábitos cotidianos. No questionamento acerca da degradação ambiental estudouse a água, em sua abordagem atual: a escassez. Também o consumo desenfreado, que resulta no desperdício e conseqüente montante de lixo. Aplicou-se a metodologia Planejamento, Processo e Produto (PPP), principalmente por avaliar continuamente cada passo, por meio da avaliação formativa, ao permitir adequação, aceitando que as etapas variem de acordo com o contexto trabalhado e por encerrar a verificação do projeto de maneira geral, com a avaliação somativa. Com uma sondagem inicial, feita por um questionário com perguntas simples, sobre meio ambiente e água, percebeu-se que havia falta de informação em alguns aspectos, como por exemplo, da origem da água que abastece a cidade, dos rios existentes e dos poluidores desses rios. A partir daí foram trabalhadas atividades, como relatório de documentário; interpretação de textos informativos, publicitários e poéticos, e descrição de visitas a locais públicos com preservação ambiental. O mesmo questionário foi aplicado ao final das atividades e constatou-se o avanço dos alunos quanto a assuntos antes desconhecidos, que depois de trabalhados foram absorvidos. Oito meses após a aplicação do projeto foi feita uma revisão de casos. De acordo com as respostas, os alunos preservaram as informações. A disciplina Português foi utilizada como um veículo para transportar a informação sobre meio ambiente e água, ainda que cumprindo o conteúdo recomendado para a oitava série. 0s alunos se envolveram na problemática da escassez de água, usaram criticidade na análise dos locais visitados e na argumentação de procedimentos certos e errados. Os resultados foram bastante satisfatórios.

Effects of hydraulic fracturing (HF) have become a controversial public health issue in the United States. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore community members' perceptions of economic, health, and environmental effects of HF in Gibson County, Indiana. The conceptual framework was adapted from the health belief model and was named the HF health impact belief model (HFHIBM). Data were collected from stratified purposeful non-randomly selected 32 Gibson community members, using semi structured questionnaires, complete observations, and existing documents. Stratification was based on factors influencing perception, such as, gender, race, level of education, age or technology exposure, and level of media use. The observed community showed no economic boom or prevalent diseases, with functional and few abandoned pump jacks located on some of the farmlands. Data collected from the returned questionnaires were analyzed using hand coding and software. The results revealed that 72% of participants lacked awareness of HF, 90.6% reported lack of involvement in the decision-making process to locate HF near their community, and 21.6% of the 40.6% of participants with awareness reported that HF should be continued if the benefits outweigh the negative effects. Based on the constructs of HFHIBM, the low awareness of HF has implications on the community's acceptance of HF, and the use of sustainable and environmentally safe alternatives may result in better acceptance of HF. Increased awareness of HF may lead to the development of environmentally friendly, sustainable preventive actions, better community health outcomes such as reduced morbidity and mortality rates, and improved drinking water quality in neighboring communities.

Visuomenės aplinkosauginis sąmoningumas yra svarbus įgyvendint aplinkos politiką ir siekiant darnaus vystymosi plačiąja prasme, o visuomenės informavimas ir švietimas tampa esmine kaitos ir pilietinės veiklos prielaida. Aukštosios mokyklos yra viena iš sudėtinių švietimo sistemos dalių. Šio darbo tikslas yra ištirti VDU studentų ekologines nuostatas ir nustatyti ekologinio sąmoningumo lygį bei jį sąlygojančius veiksnius. Tikslui pasiekti semestro pradžioje buvo apklausta 447 respondentai, o semestro pabaigoje 552 respondentai. Norint įvertinti kaip kito studentų ekologinis sąmoningumas semestro pradžioje ir pabaigoje buvo naudojamas Vilkoksono ženklų kriterijus. Buvo skaičiuotas vidutinis gausumo rangas, rezultatai laikomi statistiškai reikšmingais, kai p<0,05 ir (atskirais atvejais p<0,1). Apibendrinus apklausos duomenis, paaiškėjo, kad išklausytas biomedicinos ir fizinių mokslų kursas reikšmingos įtakos studentų aplinkosauginio sąmoningumo lygmens pasirinkimui neturėjo (Z= -1,136, p>0,05). Toki pat duomenys gauti ir analizuojant respondentų domėjimąsi ekologija, aplinkos problemomis (Z=-0,306, p>0,05). Taip pat buvo tiriamas atsakomybės priskyrimas už aplinkos apsaugą. Environmental and ecological education promotes knowledge of the environment and provide a deeper cognitive science skills and promote environmentally friendly behavior motivation, responsibility for their actions. Public environmental awareness is important for realization of environmental policy and sustainable development in the broad sense, and public information and education is a fundamental change and civil activity assumption. High school is one of the constituent parts of the education system. The aim is to explore the ecological VDU students and establish a level of environmental awareness and the factors determining it. In order to achieve a semester at the beginning of 447 respondents were interviewed and at the end of the semester 552 respondents. In order to assess the evolution of students environmental awareness at the beginning and end of the semester was used Wilcoxon criteria. The calculated average abundance rank, is considered statistically significant at p <0.05 and (in some cases, p<0.1). Summarizing the survey data showed that heard in biomedical and physical sciences course material didn‘t impact on students environmental awareness level (Z = -1.136, p>0.05). The same data were obtained and the analysis of respondents interest in ecology and environmental problems (Z =-0.306, p>0.05). A crise ambiental atual, caracterizada pelo desequilíbrio das relações ser humano e natureza, tem mostrado que é preciso compreender melhor os aspectos inerentes à sociedade e ao meio ambiente em suas inter-relações, a fim de transformar a teoria em prática em prol da preservação e conservação ambiental. A Educação Ambiental e a legislação ambiental buscam por meio da conscientização e da reflexão sobre as questões socioambientais transformar indivíduos em “cidadãos ambientais”. Estudos demonstram que o nível de conscientização ambiental de cada indivíduo está diretamente relacionado ao grau de percepção ambiental e que este, reflete diretamente no comportamento ambiental do indivíduo. A pesquisa foi realizada junto a 5 universidades brasileiras com um total de 553 respondentes, sendo três universidades públicas e duas privadas. Para análise de dados, foi utilizada a modelagem de equações estruturais por meio do software SmartPLS 2.0 M3. O resultado indica que a percepção ambiental do universitário tem foco na reciclagem, na economia de água e energia e na redução do consumo, fora estas questões, as variáveis formadoras da percepção ambiental, não se mostraram efetivas.
The current environmental crisis, characterized by the imbalance of human and natural relations, has shown that it is necessary to better understand the inherent aspects of society and the environment in their interrelationships, in order to transform theory into practice for the preservation and environmental Conservation. Environmental Education and environmental legislation seek to make people aware of "environmental citizens" by raising awareness and reflecting on social and environmental issues. Studies show that the level of environmental awareness of each individual is directly related to the degree of environmental perception and that this, directly reflects on the environmental behavior of the individual. The research was carried out with 5 Brazilian universities with a total of 553 respondents, three public universities and two private universities. For data analysis, the modeling of structural equations using the software SmartPLS 2.0 M3 was used. The result indicates that the environmental perception of the university has a focus on recycling, water and energy saving and reduction of consumption, apart from these issues, the variables that formed the environmental perception were not effective.

Denna studie undersöker hur människors relaterar till naturen efter en genomförd utomhusutbildning vid namn Hållbar natur. Utbildningen består av 11 olika stopp/platser där olika miljöfrågor kring hållbar utveckling exemplifieras. Metoden för studien är fokusgrupper och de empiriska materialen består av tre fokusgrupper med sammanlagt 14 deltagare. Fokusgruppernas deltagare fick tillsammans gå en tre timmar lång utomhusutbildning där Rockströms planetära gränser låg i fokus. Analysen av materialet visar på att deltagarna har fått en ökad medvetenhet kring samband och samspel som finns mellan människan och naturen, men de verkar sakna en djupare förståelse. Analysen visar också på hur stor roll platser har som referenspunkt i diskussioner om miljöfrågor, dock inte de platser som besöktes under utbildningen. Det är troligt att den stora aktiviteten som uppkom i samband med gruppdiskussionerna kan kopplas till den konkreta upplevelsen som deltagarna precis hade fått. Det framkom i analysen att deltagarna gärna ville prata om ämnen som de kan referera till med egna erfarenheter. Analysen visar därmed att det är viktigt att använda sig av exempel som är lätta att förknippa med sitt eget liv vid utformandet av en miljöutbildning med utomhuspedagogik. Deltagarnas förhållningsätt till naturen, det vill säga ett antropocentriskt eller ekocentriskt förhållningssätt spelade roll för hur de tog till sig utbildningen vilket gör att det är av betydelse för utformandet av en miljöutbildning med utomhuspedagogik att ta hänsyn till människans natursyn. This study investigates how people relate to nature after an accomplished outdoor education called Sustainable Nature. The education consists of 11 different stops / places where different environmental issues regarding sustainable development are exemplified. The method of the study is focus groups and there were three groups, together 14 participants. The focus groups members participated in a three-hour loong outdoor education, focusing on the nine planetary boundaries as theorized by Rockstöm. The analysis of the material shows that the participants have gained increased awareness of the relationship and interaction between man and nature, but they seem to lack a deeper understanding. The analysis also shows the importance of geographical points in discussions of environmental issues, but not the places visited during the education. It is likely that the big activity that arose in connection with the group discussions can be linked to the actual experience that the participants had just received. It was found in the analysis that participants would like to talk about topics that they can refer to with their own experiences. The analysis thus shows that it is important to use examples that are easy to associate with their own lives in the design of an environmental education. Participants' approach to nature, that is, an anthropocentric or ecocentric approach, played a part in the way they took the education, Hence, participants´ view of nature are key aspects to take into account in the design of informal environmental outdoor education. None of the participants had a biocentric approach. Common to all the focus groups was that after education a clear commitment was made to educate more, it’s a clear expression of a new interest.

Faced with dynamic and rapidly deteriorating environmental conditions, the government of Mozambique has embarked on environmental education programmes and campaigns (EEPCs) as a strategy for natural resource management and environmental conservation. However, there is increasing evidence to suggest that the implementation of these EEPCs in local communities are often lacking when it comes to community participation and contribution. The latter has often been cited as a major reason for the limited success of such EEPCs. To date there is little research work that explores the issues on the integration of local community Knowledge and practices, and community reactions to such environmental education programmes and campaigns anywhere in the world. Mozambique, a developing country in Africa, is no exception to this trend of ignorance. This research investigated the extent to which local knowledge and practices are integrated into The EEPCs that are implemented by the government of Mozambique. The focus was on the local community’s perceptions, engagements and reactions to the EEPCs. The study was conducted in four districts of the Nampula province in Northern Mozambique. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentary analysis and non-participant observations. The findings of the study showed that there is a lack of substantial involvement by the local community in all stages of the development process of the EEPCs. Furthermore, the study found evidence of partial and /or unsuccessful implementation of the projects in all four communities studied. The research concluded by arguing that without such active involvement of the local people in planning, designing, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and decision-making processes of EEPCs, the frustrations of government officials and the lack of substantial implementation of the projects in the communities that were studied should not have come as a surprise.

In the context of the critical sustainability problem of marine plastic pollution, the present paper presents a quasiexperimental research that explores the effects that participating on beach clean-up has on students’ knowledge,awareness and behavioural intentions. Considering this intervention as an outside of school practical implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), this research aims to determine if the addition of direct experiences with nature within ESD programs can lead to a behavioural change in favour of the environment. Analysing the factors that influence pro-environmental behaviour and the role that ESD has on transforming society towards a more sustainable one, a one-time pre-test post-test research with non-equivalent groups was performed. A questionnaire on beach litter and self-reported behaviour, implemented in two schools of the Amalfi Coast, Italy, indicate that in comparison to a group which only received a lecture, a group that participated in a beach clean-up increased their knowledge and awareness towards marine plastic pollution, in addition to their willingness to participate in another beach clean-up. This supports the theory that learning in nature can have a higher influence in shaping pro-environmental behaviour, and therefore the inclusion of this type of activities within ESD programs can help beat marine plastic pollution.

Em trabalho anterior pioneiro realizado em uma indústria de alumínio primário, dissertação de mestrado intitulada educação ambiental na redução III da Alcan Alumínio do Brasil S.A. - um estudo de caso, no período de 1993 a 1995, começou a ser desenvolvida uma metodologia de conscientização ambiental para os operários de indústria. A proposta desta tese de doutorado foi de dar continuidade ao trabalho anterior da autora, procurando-se definir melhor os aspectos estruturais desse método de trabalho, bem como, testá-lo novamente e, aperfeiçoá-lo na tentativa de se alcançar melhores resultados em sua aplicação na formação de recursos humanos diretamente envolvidos nos processos de produção. Esse método trabalha a educação ambiental intramuro das fábricas e dá ênfase à participação dos empregados para se alcançar resultados positivos em termos de ganho em qualidade ambiental. Funciona como um facilitador tanto na implantação do sistema de gerenciamento ambiental (SGA) nas empresas, como no desenvolvimento de projetos independentes de educação ambiental. Outras características deste trabalho são os seus traços de educação tecnológica pró-desenvolvimento sustentável, influência da formação da pesquisadora na área da engenharia civil sanitária. A educação ambiental internamente às empresas tem um papel importante, porém seu emprego é ainda muito restrito e superficial. No âmbito das empresas certificadas ou não, a educação ambiental é um instrumento indispensável para se alcançar uma mudança de comportamento e de atitudes dos operários com relação ao meio ambiente, considerando-se a missão ambiental de cada um, em seus postos de trabalho, no dia-a-dia. A abordagem metodológica que foi utilizada para que fossem atingidos os objetivos propostos neste projeto foi o estudo de caso. Este estudo de caso foi realizado no setor de produção conhecido como Macharia da indústria Saint-Gobain canalização situada em Itaúna, Minas Gerais, Brasil. Essa fundição produz peças de ferro fundido para o setor de saneamento ambiental. O projeto de educação ambiental restringiu-se a um treinamento ambiental aplicado à minimização dos resíduos sólidos industriais gerados na Macharia e conhecidos como areia solta e refugos de machos. Teve como público alvo os operários chamados de macheiros. O treinamento ambiental foi avaliado direta e indiretamente. A avaliação direta foi em termos de ganho de conhecimento e, constituiu-se de duas fases, aplicação de um pré-teste e de um pós-teste. A avaliação indireta considerou o estudo de gráficos de desempenho ambiental para se verificar a qualidade ambiental na Macharia com o desenvolvimento do projeto de educação ambiental. Ocorreram alterações nesses gráficos que demonstram que houve um início de mudança de comportamento dos operários, o que significa que esses passaram a incorporar às questões ambientais às suas rotinas de trabalho. Ao serem confrontadas as ferramentas de avaliação do projeto de educação ambiental: pré-teste e pós-teste com os gráficos de mensuração da qualidade ambiental na Macharia, identificou-se que embora tenham sido utilizados instrumentos de medição distintos, os resultados alcançados foram similares. Concluiu-se da análise dos dados gerais que houve uma melhoria da qualidade ambiental da Macharia, em função do aumento do nível de conscientização ambiental dos empregados.
In a previous work of mine, my master\'s dissertation entitled environmental education in reduction III of Alcan Alumínio do Brasil S/A - a case study (from 1993-1995), considered to be a pioneer work in the field of environmental education applied to industry, was conceived the idea of developing and testing the ABC\'s of environmental awareness for workers in industry. The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to give continuity to the aforementioned work. In the doctoral thesis, a better definition of the structural aspects of this how-to-do-method has been developed, in a constructivist perspective, together with the foundry workers who had a hands on role in contributing to achieve and industrial environmental clean production. The training method developed in this thesis is directed mainly to employees in industry who work directly in the core making sector, so that they would become aware and involved in environmental education as well as what they can do in their field of work to achieve positive results in terms of gaining environmental quality. This how-to-do-method serves as a facilitator not only in implanting the environmental management system (EMS) but also in developing independent projects in companies (not linked to any special certification program such as EMS). If any other enterprise wishes to optimize its operations in the environmental clean production, this method can also be adopted. Another environmental feature of this work is its sustainable development technological and educational structure, influenced by the researcher\'s practical experience as a civil sanitation engineer. The methodological approach which was used to achieve the proposed objectives in this project was the case study. The case study was carried out in the core making section of the Saint-Gobain pipelines, which is an iron foundry, located in Itaúna, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This foundry produces cast metal parts used for environmental sanitation. The environmental education project limited itself to environmental training applied to minimize industrial solid waste, such as foundry sand and refuse core generated in the core making section. The trainees in this project were the workers in the core section of the Saint-Gobain pipelines. The environmental training was evaluated directly and indirectly. The direct evaluation was measured in terms of the knowledge gained by the employees who participated in this project. The direct evaluation consisted of two parts: the application of a pre-test and a post-test. The indirect evaluation took into consideration the study of graphs of environmental quality and performance in the core making section, in order to verify improvements achieved in the working site. These graphs are related to the implementation of the environmental education project, and they demonstrate the consequence of the beginning of the change in the worker\'s attitude towards the environment in which they work. This change signifies that the workers came to incorporate, internally, important environmental information to be directly applied in their work routine. Upon comparing the evaluating tools: the classroon (pre and post tests) and the monitoring graphs of the working site, it was evident that although different measuring instruments were used, the final results were similar. It can be concluded upon analyzing the general data that there was a quality improvement in the core making section of the Saint-Gobain pipelines as a result of a methodology developed for workers in industry which awakened them to their environmental responsability.

As a future preschool teacher I see myself as a part of creating the future of society. I think the environment and sustainable development is a part that feels important that children have with them in life. The purpose of the study was to examine whether and how preschool teachers work with environmental and sustainable development activities in various preschools and how children are involved in this work. The methodology for the study has been semi-structured interviews with active preschool teachers in three different preschools. The results of the survey show that preschools are working more or less actively with the environment and sustainable development in the business and that the children are involved in most of the work. However, it appears that other areas usually are given priority instead of working with environment and sustainable development, and that the work needs to be made more tangible for the children. All teachers in the study stated that the work with environment and sustainable development can be further expanded and must be clearly linked to the preschool curriculum for maintaining quest objectives.
Som blivande förskollärare ser jag mig själv som en del i att skapa framtidens samhällsmedborgare, då anser jag att miljö och hållbar utveckling är en del som känns viktig att barnen har med sig i livet. Syftet med studien var att undersöka om och i så fall på vilket sätt pedagoger arbetar med miljö och hållbar utveckling i verksamheten på olika förskolor samt hur delaktiga barnen är i arbetet. Metodvalet för undersökningen har varit semistrukturerade intervjuer med verksamma förskollärare på tre olika förskolor. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att förskolor arbetar mer eller mindre aktivt med miljö och hållbar utveckling i verksamheten samt att barnen är delaktiga i det mesta utav arbetet. Dock framkommer det att andra områden oftast prioriteras framför arbetet med miljö och hållbar utveckling samt att arbetet behöver göras mer konkret för barnen. Samtliga pedagoger i studien uppgav att arbetet med miljö och hållbar utveckling kan utökas ytterligare och måste utgöra en tydligare koppling till förskolans läroplan för att upprätthålla strävansmålen.

Partindo do pressuposto de que os processos naturais não podem ser dissociados dos processos humanos e a importância de reconhecer na paisagem a população como atores principais e fundamentais para a conservação ambiental e participação na gestão de seu território, pressupõem-se que a percepção da paisagem pode servir como ferramenta de conservação ambiental. Entretanto para conservar é preciso conhecer e compreender o real motivo da conservação ambiental. Compreender o ambiente e seus significados em conjunto com as relações sociais, permite desenvolver a capacidade de pensar o desenvolvimento com liberdade, revelando importância do seu território. Esse novo pensar e as novas práticas sustentáveis, são discutidos na educação ambiental e agora maiormente na educação formal. No âmbito da educação tem se intensificado a formação de um consenso sobre a necessidade de problematizar a questão ambiental em todos os níveis de ensino, a partir disso a educação ambiental vem sendo valorizada como uma ação educativa que deve estar presente de forma transversal e interdisciplinar, permitindo a formação de novas atitudes e sensibilidades. A educação ambiental por ser uma relação humana interdisciplinar permite a utilização de diversas técnicas e métodos de conscientização e aprendizagem. Dentre diferentes métodos utilizados na educação ambiental a percepção da paisagem pode ser um novo caminho para a conscientização ambiental, já que as duas trabalham com a sensibilização, emoção, sentimentos e energias as quais podem influenciar na mudança de comportamento. Desta forma entende-se que compreender o espaço socialmente produzido como lugar de experiências favorece o processo de aprendizagem, possibilitando estabelecer discussões sociais, políticas e ambientais na paisagem. Partindo da importância de utilizar a percepção da paisagem como ferramenta de conservação ambiental dentro da perspectiva da educação ambiental, a presente pesquisa foi realizada na Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Profª Marili Dias, tendo como objetivo geral: Verificar se o estudo da paisagem na EMEF Profª Marili Dias pode contribuir para a conservação ambiental. A pesquisa utilizou a pesquisa participante como metodologia de pesquisa qualitativa durante as atividades realizadas, utilizando-se de um conjunto de procedimentos como questionário estruturado, pesquisa documental, depoimentos e narrativas, contribuindo na construção da Cartografia Social Participativa.
The new way of life created by society implies changes both in urban, social and environmental issues, described today as contemporary environmental problems. To understand the environmental changes, it is necessary to integrate the various sciences, such as the natural and social sciences, allowing the balance to the economic and environmental development. Assuming that natural processes cannot be separated from human processes and the importance of including the population in the landscape as key players in environmental conservation and participation in the management of its territory, it´s assumed that the perception of the landscape can serve as environmental conservation tool. However to preserve you need to know and understand the real motive of environmental conservation. Understanding the environment and their meanings together with social relationships, increases the capability of thinking development with freedom, disclosing the importance of its territory. This new thinking and new sustainable practices, are discussed in environmental education and now in formal education as well. In education it has intensified the formation of a consensus on the need to discuss environmental issues at all educational levels, from that environmental education has been valued as an educational activity that should be present in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary way, allowing the formation of new attitudes and sensibilities. Environmental education is an interdisciplinary human relationship and allows the use of various techniques and methods of awareness and learning. Among the different methods used in environmental education perception of the landscape can be a new path to environmental awareness, since it works with awareness, emotion, feelings and energies which can influence behavior change. Thus it is known that to understand the socially produced space as a place of experience promotes the learning process, allowing establishing social, political and environmental discussions within the landscape. Starting from the importance of using the perception of landscape as a conservation tool from the perspective of environmental education, this research was conducted at the Municipal Elementary School Prof. Marili Dias with the goal: To make sure the landscape study in EMEF Profª marili Dias can contribute to environmental conservation. The research used participatory research as qualitative research methodology during the activities. Considering that, between data production techniques for the development of social research, apply techniques used to both qualitative methods and also quantitative methods. Therefore, we used a set of procedures as structured questionnaire, documentary research, interviews and narratives, contributing to the construction of participative Social Cartography.

The craft of clay in the city of Tracunhaém is an important sector of economic activity that generates employments and income for many families and features renowned artists, which makes the city one of the largest referral centers in the art of modeling clay in the country. This activity uses in its production process as the main energy input to the wood, and this demand causes a considerable impact on local biomes. The study was conducted by the Association of craftsmen Tracunhaém city, located in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco. Data collection was conducted between June- December 2011, through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with artisans to analyze the environmental perception regarding the use of forest biomass (wood) of the forest in its activity. Examined the context of craft activity in the city of Tracunhaém / PE, it was found that the majority of artisans (craftsmen 49) have their own wood-fired ovens in operation, and 29 artisans who did not have ovens themselves, but use third-party electric furnaces and 03, only 01 active and 02 kilns remain unused due to lack of a training program, enabling craftsmen to handle them properly to avoid accidents, it was identified that wood is the main source of energy matrix for the craft, was also identified that 70% of wood consumed comes from the backwoods of Pernambuco wood and 23% comes from the state of Paraiba. Further identified that 7% of firewood consumed is unknown. It was found that 79% of artisans (craftsmen 62) use an average of 05 cubic meters of wood per week, the activity of its ceramics since this demand is considerable development activity weekly. It is therefore necessary for the implementation of actions by the Municipality of Tracunhaém / PE in relation to environmental education for the artisans of the clay can make sustainable use of firewood on his craf activity.
O artesanato do barro na cidade de Tracunhaém é importante setor da atividade econômica que gera trabalho e renda para muitas famílias e conta com renomados artistas, o que faz da cidade um dos maiores centros de referência na arte da modelagem do barro no país. Esta atividade no seu processo produtivo utiliza como principal insumo energético à lenha, e esta demanda causa um impacto considerável nos biomas locais. O estudo foi conduzido junto à Associação dos artesãos da cidade de Tracunhaém, localizada na zona da Mata de Pernambuco. A coleta de dados foi realizada no período de junho a dezembro de 2011, através de aplicação de questionários e de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com os artesãos para analisar a percepção ambiental em relação ao uso da biomassa florestal (lenha) da mata nativa na sua atividade. Analisado o contexto da atividade de artesanato na cidade de Tracunhaém/PE, constatou-se que a maioria dos artesãos (49 artesãos) possuem os fornos próprios à lenha em atividade, além de 29 artesãos que não possuem os fornos próprios, mas utilizam de terceiros e 03 fornos elétricos, apenas 01 em atividade, e 02 fornos permanecem sem utilização, devido à falta de um programa de capacitação, que permitam aos artesãos manuseá-los corretamente de modo a evitar acidentes, constatou-se que a lenha é a principal fonte da matriz energética para o artesanato, também foi identificado que 70% de lenha consumida vem do Sertão do Pernambuco e 23% de lenha vem do Estado da Paraíba. Também foi identificado que 7% de lenha consumida tem origem desconhecida. Constatou-se ainda que 79% dos artesãos (62 artesãos) utilizam em média 05 m³ de lenha por semana, na atividade do artesanato de barro, visto que essa demanda é considerável para o desenvolvimento da atividade semanalmente. Sendo assim, é necessário à implantação de ações por parte da prefeitura do município de Tracunhaém/PE em relação à Educação Ambiental para que os artesãos do barro possam fazer o uso sustentável de lenha na sua atividade do artesanato.

Barn inom förskolans verksamhet utsätts dagligen för kemikalier och detta har tidigare inte talats om eller uppmärksammats inom den omfattning som det faktiskt görs idag. Denna studie undersöker därmed vilken medvetenhet som finns kring miljökrav framför allt gällande leksaker och material inom förskolans verksamhet. Syftet är mot den bakgrunden att synliggöra vilken medvetenhet det finns kring miljökrav inom två av förskolans verksamhetsnivåer –förskolechef och förskollärare inom en kommundel i en kommun i norra Sverige. För att kunna synliggöra denna medvetenhet har det i studien varit fokus på den kvalitativa intervjun som metod.Resultatet visar bland annat på hur medvetenheten ser ut bland respondenterna, var de anser att en stor del av bekymret ligger samt hur de önskar att arbeta vidare med miljökrav inom förskolans verksamhet.
Children in early childhood education are daily exposed to chemicals and this has not been mentioned or highlighted in the extent that it is made today. This study examines the awareness surrounding environmental requirements, regarding toys and materials within early childhood education. Against this background, the aim of this study is to investigate the awareness there is about environmental requirements within two of the preschool's activity levels - preschool director and preschool teacher in a part of northern Sweden. To highlight this awareness, the study has focused on the qualitative interview as a method.The results show among other things, on how the awareness is among the respondents, what they believe is a large part of the problem is and how they wish to work with environmental requirements within the preschool.

Human societies by appropriating and extract natural resources, and adding the accumulated debris has intensified deeply affecting the environment and damage the atmosphere, land and especially water. Environmental damage such as environmental crimes typified by Law 9605/98, Law on Environmental Crimes. This research analyzes the ways in which we develop awareness of urban environmental protection in relation to compliance with the Environmental Crimes Act in the municipality of Caiçara-PB, based on the law and the testimony of the community. Study the interrelationships between education and the environment; Discuss Public Policy Environment and describe the processes of environmental preservation. The theoretical aspects were based on: education and environment, Panorama and environmental degradation, Environmental Public Policy, principles and legal aspects and the perception of environmental protection: environmental crime and documentary evidence. Methodologically classified as a case study. The techniques for data collection, were the indirect documentation: Information retrieval and bibliographic and direct - intensive participant observation and extensive - interview with questionnaire. For data processing, analysis, qualitative and descriptive. Resulting in the diagnosis: the impact of environmental crimes dump waste, residential sewage, hospital pens, cheese, slaughterhouse, tannery, charcoal, removal of sand, animal husbandry and dead animals, fences and planting of grass and removal of forest, all intended to Curimataú river. These was made photographic and geographic mapping. In addition to cases arising from allegations of environmental degradation: a Criminal Action promoted by the Public Prosecutor against six people, for the extraction of sand from the river without legal license, for which they were penalized to plant tree seedlings eighteen regional, municipality and a Civil Action filed by public prosecutors on the garbage disposal and release of the tributaries of the River Public Slaughterhouse, by which the management of the city was penalized to suit the current guidelines for operation, but such practices still in evidence. The finding of contamination of the river, the presence of fecal coliforms, using microbiological analysis of water. 59% of respondents indicated that riparian, water users of the river are likely to purchase some type of disease, 56.5% have ever received guidance about environmental preservation, except 43.55% that claimed to have knowledge through educational work of the children; most showed the total ignorance of the Environmental Law and what is environmental crime, environmental damage by synthesizing the dirt in the river and the Law of Environmental Crimes Act to "prohibit the felling of trees and deforestation, 77% perceive changes in physical aspect of the river, the city has the Organic Municipal Law, but has the Municipal Environment, Municipal Council for Environmental Education and lack of environmental education projects.
As sociedades humanas ao se apropriarem e extraírem os recursos naturais, ao acrescentarem e acumularem detritos intensificadamente vem comprometendo profundamente o meio ambiente, danificando a atmosfera, a terra e, principalmente, a água. Danos ambientais tipificados como crimes ambientais pela Lei 9.605/98, Lei de Crimes Ambientais. Esta pesquisa objetiva analisar as formas pelas quais se desenvolve a percepção da preservação ambiental urbana com relação ao cumprimento da Lei de Crimes Ambientais no município de Caiçara-PB, partindo da legislação e dos depoimentos da comunidade. Estudar as inter-relações, entre educação e meio ambiente; Discutir as Políticas Públicas Ambientais e descrever os processos de preservação ambiental. Os aspectos teóricos fundamentaram-se em: Educação e meio ambiente, Panorama e degradação ambiental; Políticas Públicas Ambientais, princípios e aspectos legais e a percepção da preservação ambiental: Os crimes ambientais e os dados documentais. Metodologicamente classifica-se como um estudo de caso. As técnicas, para a coleta dos dados, foram a documentação indireta: Pesquisa documental e bibliográfica e a direta - observação intensiva participante e a extensiva entrevista com questionário. Para tratamento dos dados, a análise descritiva e qualitativa. Resultando no diagnostico: a incidência de crimes ambientais: despejo de detritos, esgotos residenciais, hospitalar, pocilgas, queijeira, matadouro, curtume, carvoaria, retirada de areia, criação de animais e animais mortos, cercados e plantações de capim, e retirada da mata ciliar, todos direcionados ao Rio Curimataú. Destes foi feito registro fotográfico e mapeamento geográfico. Além de processos oriundos de denúncias de degradação ambiental: uma Ação Penal Pública promovida pelo Ministério Público contra seis cidadãos, pela extração de areia do rio sem licença legal, pelo qual foram penalizados a plantarem dezoito mudas de árvores regionais, no município e uma Ação Civil Pública impetrada pelo Ministério Público quanto à disposição de lixo e lançamento de afluentes do Matadouro Público no rio, pelo qual, a gestão do município foi penalizada a adequar às normas vigentes para funcionamento, contudo tais práticas continuam em evidência. A constatação da contaminação do rio, pela presença de coliformes fecais, através da análise microbiológica da água. 59% dos ribeirinhos entrevistados revelaram que, os usuários da água do rio estão susceptíveis de adquirirem algum tipo de doença; 56,5% que jamais receberam orientação sobre preservação ambiental, exceto 43,55% que afirmaram ter conhecimento através de trabalho escolares dos filhos; a maioria evidenciou o total desconhecimento sobre a Legislação Ambiental e o que seria crimes ambientais, sintetizando os danos ambientais a sujeira no rio e a Lei de Crimes Ambientais ao ato de proibir o corte de árvores e ao desmatamento , 77% percebe mudanças no aspecto físico do rio; o município dispõe de Lei Orgânica Municipal, mas não tem Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente, Conselho Municipal de Educação Ambiental e inexistência de projetos de educação ambiental.

Este trabalho constitui parte de uma proposta de sensibilização ambiental de educadores e alunos do entorno da Sub-bacia Hidrográfica do Ribeirão Grande, em Pindamonhangaba, SP, localizada em Área de Preservação Ambiental (APA) da Serra da Mantiqueira. Como etapa inicial, o presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar a percepção ambiental de professores e alunos de uma escola da rede municipal de Pindamonhangaba, localizada próxima à área em questão. A percepção ambiental foi investigada através da aplicação de um questionário a 11 professores e 91 alunos, de forma a avaliar o entendimento dos mesmos com relação aos problemas ambientais observados na região, como subsídio para elaboração de um projeto de educação ambiental a ser proposto aos gestores municipais. Foram realizadas, no período de março a outubro de 2008, atividades de sensibilização e conscientização, com conteúdos e práticas de Educação Ambiental, envolvendo os professores do ensino fundamental e da pré-escola, de forma a motivá-los a discutir e desenvolver, com os respectivos alunos, os temas ambientais abordados. As respostas ao questionário evidenciaram que a percepção de meio ambiente, de professores e alunos, está relacionada principalmente aos elementos naturais e muito pouco à interação entre estes e os aspectos sócioculturais. Este estudo sugere que os educadores e educandos possuem um bom entendimento da relação dos impactos das atividades humanas no ambiente em que vivem. Contudo esta percepção não é suficiente para levar a uma modificação do comportamento para um manejo adequado dos problemas ambientais observados no entorno da sub-bacia do Ribeirão Grande. A percepção, como processo dinâmico, mostrou uma evolução na visão de meio ambiente dos envolvidos, sendo imprescindível antes de qualquer intervenção na comunidade local.
This work is part of a proposal for raising environmental awareness of teachers and students around the Sub-Basin of the Ribeirão Grande, in Pindamonhangaba, SP, located in the Environmental Protection Area (EPA) of Mantiqueira Mountains. As initial stage, the objective of the present study was to investigate the environmental perception of the educators and students of a municipal school, located next to the described area. The perception of the environment was investigated through the application of a questionnaire to 11 teachers and 91 students, in order to evaluate their knowledge with regard to the environmental problems observed in the region, as subsidy for elaboration of an Environmental Education Project to be presented to the municipal managers. In 2008, from March to October, activities of sensitization and awareness were carried out, with content and practices of Environmental Education, involving teachers of elementary education and pre-school levels, in order to motivate them to argue and to develop the addressed environmental subjects with the respective pupils. The answers to the questionnaire showed that the environmental perception of the teachers and students is mainly related to the natural elements, and very little to the interaction between these and the socio-cultural aspects. This study suggests that the educators and students have a good understanding about the relation of some impacts of human activities in the environment where they live. However, this perception is not enough to lead to a modification of the behavior for an adjusted management of the environmental problems observed in the surroundings of the sub-basin of the Ribeirão Grande. The perception, as a dynamic process, showed an evolution of the vision related to the environment in the involved ones, being essential before any intervention in the local community.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the legal aspects of public environmental education and awareness rising on waste management issues, to evaluate the completeness and quality of the websites of regional waste management centers and municipalities and to develop a web site for waste management issues. Methods of the work: descriptive analysis of the legislation, comparative analysis of educational material on the websites of regional waste management centers in Lithuania. Master's thesis describes the website (www.atliekos.visiems.lt) for waste management developed by the author. Alytus, Šiauliai, Tauragė, Telšiai, Kaunas regional waste management centers according to legislation must develop and implement public awareness programs on waste issues. According to the information provided, Lithuanian regional waste management centers, were grouped into four categories. Websites of Siauliai and Telsiai regional waste management centers are the most developed and complete among of all regional centers. The websites of the waste management centers of Marijampolė, Panevėžys, Tauragė, Utena were among those that mostly lacked comprehensiveness. The research revealed that in the websites of municipalities’ there is no a separate column on municipal waste management system or information in such column is not complete. It was formulated 9 recommendations for the improvement of public environmental education and awareness rising on waste management issues.

O crescimento da população e o aumento do consumo de recursos naturais acentuam a poluição da água, do ar e do solo, o que é evidenciado pelo crescente desaparecimento de espécies década após década, apenas um dos muitos efeitos nefastos do descuido com o planeta que habitamos. Acreditamos que a educação possa ter significativa contribuição no processo de percepção deste desequilíbrio na relação entre homem e natureza auxiliando para a busca de uma melhora do cenário atual. Para que a educação possa cumprir este papel é fundamental que se tenham indicadores do nível de conhecimento ambiental dos alunos. Isso nos permite aferir a situação atual e a partir disso definir metas e construir estratégias para o trabalho com Educação Ambiental, buscando a sustentabilidade e a responsabilidade de todas as gerações para o futuro. Um dos principais objetivos desta pesquisa é caracterizar e enfatizar a importância de compreender como os alunos do terceiro ano do ensino médio e oitava série do ensino fundamental de escolas estaduais percebem e conhecem o meio ambiente do município e a atuação das estruturas públicas e de ONGs (Organizações não governamentais) presentes em São Leopoldo/RS. Além disto, buscamos verificar a inserção de novas tecnologias neste cenário, como o uso do Orkut e de suas comunidades relacionadas ao meio ambiente. Um total de 218 alunos participaram desta pesquisa, respondendo a um questionário sobre sua percepção a respeito do meio ambiente da cidade; as respostas foram analisadas estatisticamente com o auxílio do software SPSS e Excel. Esta análise revelou que mais da metade da amostra possui cadastro no Orkut, mas não participa de comunidades virtuais sobre o meio ambiente. Quanto à Pegada Ecológica a maior pontuação foi de alunos do terceiro ano do ensino médio que obtiveram um valor entre 8 e 10 hectares. Um pouco menor foi o resultado apresentado pelos estudantes de oitava série, entre 6 e 8 hectares. Através desta pesquisa também foi possível identificar e quantificar um grande desconhecimento por parte dos alunos no que se refere aos órgãos públicos e suas ações. Em ambos os níveis de ensino, a maioria desconhece a localização da Secretaria de Meio Ambiente da cidade, nunca pensaram em denunciar algo que tenham visto contra a natureza, bem como desconhecem a existência de projetos sobre meio ambiente no município. A legislação ambiental também é desconhecida pela quase totalidade dos estudantes. É essencial que estes resultados sirvam de estímulo para uma reflexão de todos os sujeitos que estão ligados à discussão da temática ambiental, principalmente aqueles que estruturam políticas públicas voltadas à Educação Ambiental. A legislação que visa preservar nosso patrimônio ambiental existe, cabe à sociedade promover uma maior cobrança para que essas leis sejam aperfeiçoadas e efetivamente aplicadas, e cabe às instituições escolares debaterem estes assuntos em suas comunidades, formando cidadãos ativos na busca de soluções para estes problemas. Desta forma, é possível trabalhar a construção de uma consciência ambiental visando um futuro melhor.
Population growth and increased consumption of natural resources intensify water, air and soil pollution, which is evidenced by the increasing loss of species over the decades, only one of many harmful effects of neglecting the planet we live on. We believe education can have significant contribution in the perception of this imbalance in the relationship between man and nature, helping to improve the current scenario. For education to fulfill this role it is essential to have indicators of the level of student’s environmental knowledge. This allow measuring the current situation and from that set goals and build strategies for working with Environmental Education, aiming sustainability and responsibility of every generation for the future. One of the main objectives of this research is to characterize and emphasize the importance of understanding how students in the third year of high school and eighth grade in the elementary school at public schools perceive and know the environment of the city and the actions of public structures and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) in São Leopoldo city. Furthermore, we investigate how new technologies take part in this scenario, as the use of Orkut and its communities related to the environment. A group of 218 students took part in this research, answering a questionnaire about their perception about the city's environment; the answers were statistically analyzed with the aid of SPSS and Excel softwares. This analysis revealed that more than half of the sample has an Orkut account, but does not take part of communities about the environment. Regarding Ecological Footprint, the highest score was obtained by students in third year of high school, between 8 and 10 hectares. Slightly lower was the result of the eighthgrade students, between 6 and 8 hectares. It was also identified and quantified through this research students display a great ignorance of public structures and its actions. At both levels of education, most are unaware of the location of the city’s Department of Environmental Protection, never thought to report something wrong they witnessed against nature and do not know any environmental projects being held on the city. Environmental Law is also unknown by almost all students. It is essential that these results stimulate the study of all environmental involved parties that are linked to discussion of environmental issues, especially those responsible to make public policies for the Environmental Education. The Environmental Law already exits, it is up to society demand these laws are improved and enforced, and it is up to schools to discuss these issues in their communities, developing citizens who are active in the pursuit of solutions to these problems. Thus, it is possible to build an environmental awareness aiming a better future.

The challenge of teaching a second language assumes that there should be a motivating factor that pushes students to their learning and the pedagogical practice of English teachers of youth and adult education must be coupled with the awareness of the student real importance of this educational process. In this scenario, the process of training, and the search for excellence, constitutes a decisive factor in overcoming school failure. From this principle, the idea of linking the teaching of the English language, your communication skills and grammar part to a very relevant social and global issue arises: environmental awareness. The implementation of public actions to ensure a more sustainable development of society has generated much discussion in various social spheres, which makes us, as teachers, subject of this action. So we ask ourselves: to what extent the environment as a crosscutting theme, could be used as a context for teaching English? The aim is thus to establish a theoretical and practical discussion about the importance of the environment as a theme for teaching the English language; develop a pedagogical proposal for the implementation of procedures for teaching English correlating with news media on environmental issues for teaching youth and adults. Their day-to-day professional makes them acquire an empirical knowledge of their metier, but leaves that reach below potential with proper training. In this aspect, the students spread the awareness that individual actions sustainable living make a difference in the process of conserving the environment, in order to expand the interest in second language learning, from the development of classes with the inclusion of contextualized themes about environmental problems experienced in daily practice, as the starting point of teaching a second language.
O desafio do ensino de um segundo idioma parte do pressuposto de que deve-se existir um fator motivacional que impulsione o aluno ao seu aprendizado e a prática pedagógica dos professores de inglês da educação de jovens e adultos, deve estar aliada à conscientização do aluno da real importância desse processo educacional. Nesse cenário, o processo de formação profissional, e a busca por sua excelência, constitui-se um fator decisivo da superação do fracasso escolar. Partindo deste princípio, surge a ideia de relacionar o ensino da língua inglesa, suas habilidades comunicativas e parte gramatical, à um tema social bastante pertinente e global: a conscientização ambiental. A implementação de ações públicas que garantam um desenvolvimento mais sustentável da sociedade tem gerado grandes discussões, em várias esferas sociais, o que nos faz, enquanto professores, sujeitos desta ação. Assim, nos indagamos: em que medida o meio ambiente, como tema transversal, poderá ser aplicado como contexto para o ensino de língua inglesa? Busca-se, assim, estabelecer uma discussão teórico-prática acerca da importância do meio ambiente como temática para o ensino da língua inglesa; elaborar uma proposta pedagógica para a implementação de procedimentos de ensino da língua inglesa correlacionando com noticiários da mídia sobre as questões ambientais para o ensino de jovens e adultos. O seu dia-a-dia profissional o faz adquirir um conhecimento empírico de seu métier, porém o deixa aquém do potencial que alcançaria com a devida formação. Pretende-se, com esta pesquisa, elaborar uma proposta pedagógica interdisciplinar de ensino de língua inglesa, provocando no aluno a consciência de que ações singulares de vida sustentável fazem uma diferença no processo de conservação do meio ambiente. Desta forma, ampliar o interesse no aprendizado de um segundo idioma, a partir da elaboração de aulas com a inclusão contextualizada de temas sobre problemas ambientais vivenciados na prática diária, como ponto de partida do ensinar um segundo idioma.

The 1988 Brazilian Constitution, in Article 225, Chapter VI - The Environment, Item VI, highlights the need to ´´promote environmental education at all levels of education and public awareness for the preservation of the environment ´(BRAZIL , 1988). In line with these constitutional provisions, other federal, state and local laws require the mandatory Environmental Education. Thus, it is increasingly evident the responsibility of all people to the environmental issue. Environmental awareness as an awareness of the environment by human beings, who, as part of this environment to take care of this takes care of itself, is important for the promotion of environmental education resource, critically. In this context, the study of environmental perception is crucial for a better understanding of the interrelationships between humans and the environment, expectations, desires, satisfactions and dissatisfactions, judgments and behaviors, as well as to strengthen adoption of educational strategies that can promote effective environmental education as the movement of awareness of socio-political, attitudinal / behavioral aimed at environmental sustainability as Faggionato points. In this context, was defined as the central issue in this study the following question: What kind of perception of the environment presented by pupils, students and teachers of primary and secondary schools in two of the State of Sergipe Network Farolândia located in the district of Aracaju, Sergipe. In keeping your overall goal is to analyze the environmental perceptions of the environment presented by these subjects, seeking to realize from this, the role of the school in this context. This is a case study with a qualitative approach, although with the use of quantitative data, combining exploratory and descriptive procedures. Initial data reveal that dominates a perception that the environment surrounding the school has problems. That self perception as a citizen / citizen protagonist of the human being in relation to the environment relate to the question of urban waste (34.2%), with nature as a space to be maintained and preserved (33.6%), the government people / society (16.7%), finishing less representative form with actions related to education (2.8%). This initially points in the significant demand for a paradigm shift in society and education in relation to environmental issues.
A Constituição Brasileira de 1988, em seu artigo 225, Capítulo VI - Do Meio Ambiente, Inciso VI, destaca a necessidade de promover a Educação Ambiental em todos os níveis de ensino e a conscientização pública para a preservação do meio ambiente (BRASIL, 1988). Em consonância com estes preceitos constitucionais, outras leis federais, estaduais e municipais determinam a obrigatoriedade da Educação Ambiental. Assim, cada vez mais é explicitada a responsabilidade de todas as pessoas quanto à questão ambiental. A percepção ambiental como uma tomada de consciência do ambiente pelo ser humano, que, como parte deste ambiente ao cuidar deste cuida de si mesmo, é um recurso importante para a promoção da Educação Ambiental, de forma crítica. Neste contexto, o estudo da percepção ambiental é de fundamental importância para uma melhor compreensão das inter-relações entre o ser humano e o ambiente, suas expectativas, anseios, satisfações e insatisfações, julgamentos e condutas, bem como para fortalecer adoção de estratégias educacionais que possam promover a efetiva Educação Ambiental como o movimento de tomada de consciência sócio-política, atitudinal/comportamental visando à sustentabilidade socioambiental, conforme aponta Faggionato. Nesse contexto, foi definido como problema central neste estudo a seguinte questão: Quais os tipos de percepção do meio ambiente apresentados por discentes e docentes do Ensino Fundamental e Médio de duas escolas da Rede Estadual de Sergipe situadas no bairro Farolândia, em Aracaju, Sergipe. Em consonância seu objetivo geral busca analisar as percepções ambientais do meio ambiente apresentados por esses sujeitos, buscando perceber a partir disso, qual o papel da escola nesse contexto. Trata-se de um estudo de caso de abordagem qualitativa, embora com uso de dados quantitativos, que articula procedimentos exploratórios e descritivos. Os dados iniciais revelam que predomina uma percepção de que o meio ambiente do entorno das escolas apresenta problemas. Que a auto percepção enquanto cidadã/cidadão protagonista do ser humano em relação ao meio ambiente atem-se a questão do lixo urbano (34,2%), com a natureza como espaço a ser conservado e preservado (33,6%), a governo, pessoas/sociedade (16,7%), finalizando de forma menos representativa com ações relacionadas à educação (2,8%). Isso nos aponta inicialmente a demanda significativa por uma mudança de paradigma na sociedade e na educação em relação às questões socioambientais.

Abstract:
A great concern nowadays current is that environmental and mainly related to the themes of usos water management since his consumption, levels of quality and quantity needed for population, at the dumping of waste arising from its use. From this on, set up how to study the problem management to use of freshwater in the Areia Branca region (Aracaju Expansion Zone), where part of the population makes use of wells as a source of water supply for consumption. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the from the site characterization, a perception and sustainable practices as realized for the population and if there is destination given the domestic sewage or toilets. Such research was based a qualitative and quantitative methodological approach in order to understand and analyze the related facts on environmental sanitation, more precisely the types of water use, prospecting quality materials to inform a real importance to an overview questioning. To this end, they were performed: bibliographical and documentary survey; questionnaires to the community concerned and the relevant public bodies; observations "in loco"; experimental research to prove the level of quality (potable) water; mapping of collection points; tab and management of data; and analysis and interpretation of information. With the diagnosis and the analysis performed, it can be seen that the village lacks basic sanitation and environmental infrastructure, because the quality of the water used by the population, in general, does not meet the potability standards required by Brazilian law; and also the financial resources allocated to this region are insufficient for the maintenance of other issues related to public health, as the case of the lack of land use planning, urban drainage and sewerage system. Through the data obtained may also conclude that the perception of the population regarding the use of water, for the sustainable practices, falls short of emotional relationships between man and the environment, it is imperative to implement environmental education practices subsidize such relationship and therefore the sustained use of water. Thus, this research provided reveal the static scenario in which it is the region in terms of environmental development, lacking energetic solutions to minimize the problems faced by the resident population and therefore sensitize them on environmental issues. In contrast, it is expected that this study will provide more information for the academic community and tools for the management of water resources through public policies aimed at the population's well-being as well as the preservation of natural resources, advocating the importance of water quality for improving the quality of life and the maintenance of human health.
Uma das maiores preocupações dos tempos atuais diz respeito às questões ambientais e principalmente em temas relacionados à gestão dos usos das águas desde o seu consumo, em níveis de qualidade e quantidade necessários à população, até o despejo de rejeitos oriundos de seu uso. Diante disso, definiu-se como problema de estudo o gerenciamento do uso das águas doces na região de Areia Branca (Zona de Expansão de Aracaju), onde parte da população faz uso de poços como fonte de suprimento de água para o consumo. Para tanto, o presente estudo objetivou analisar, a partir da caracterização local, a percepção e as práticas sustentáveis realizadas pela população no uso da água e no destino dado aos esgotos domésticos/sanitários. A pesquisa fundamentou-se numa abordagem metodológica qualitativa e quantitativa com o intuito de conhecer e analisar os fatos relacionados ao saneamento ambiental, mais precisamente os tipos de uso da água, prospectando materiais de qualidade para informar a real importância do questionamento apanhado. Para tal, foram realizados: levantamento bibliográfico e documental; questionários aplicados à comunidade em questão e aos órgãos públicos correspondentes; observações “in loco”; pesquisa experimental para comprovar o nível de qualidade (potabilidade) da água; mapeamento dos pontos de coleta; tabulação e ordenamento dos dados; e análise e interpretação das informações. Com o diagnóstico e as análises realizadas, pode-se verificar que o povoado carece de infraestrutura de saneamento básico e ambiental, pois a qualidade da água utilizada pela população, de uma maneira geral, não atende aos padrões de potabilidade exigidos pela legislação brasileira; e também os recursos financeiros destinados a esta região são insuficientes para a manutenção de outras questões vinculadas à saúde pública, como o caso da falta de ordenamento territorial, da drenagem urbana e do sistema de esgotamento sanitário. Por meio dos dados obtidos pode-se concluir também que a percepção da população a respeito do uso da água, quanto às práticas sustentáveis, está aquém das relações afetivas entre o homem e o meio ambiente, sendo imprescindível a implementação de práticas de educação ambiental para subsidiar tal relação e, por conseguinte, o uso sustentado da água. Dessa forma, essa pesquisa proporcionou revelar o cenário estático em que se encontra a região, em termos de desenvolvimento socioambiental, carecendo de soluções enérgicas para minimizar os problemas enfrentados pela população residente e, por conseguinte, sensibilizá-la quanto às questões ambientais. Em contrapartida, espera-se que este estudo possa oferecer mais informações para a comunidade acadêmica e ferramentas para o gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos através de políticas públicas que visem o bem-estar da população, bem como a preservação do recurso natural, preconizando a importância da qualidade da água para a melhoria da qualidade de vida e da manutenção da saúde humana.

The understanding of the learning processes foundations of environmental concepts in Science teachers‟ initial formation is an important point to take into consideration in the capabilities of Critical Environmental Education (EAC). In this context, the research problem of the present work was: how does the relation between the environmental knowledge appropriation and human formation, in the act of knowing, in a specific educational space occur? We sought to investigate how the teaching of environmental concepts, in a dialectical approach, can contribute to the students‟ awareness and their conceptual elaboration, in a specific context of school education, and, thus, elaborate new understandings of these processes. The methodological and epistemological positions of this research were grounded, mainly, on Historical-Dialectical Materialism and Historical-Cultural Theory. A theoretical study was carried out concerning: 1) the core determinations of the environmental crisis‟s instauration, regarding it as a historical process; 2) the historical and dialectical perspective of the relation between society and nature; 3) the human formation elements, focused on the development of Higher Psychological Functions, in particular the conceptual formation and awareness; and 4) the Environmental Education as a political Education and as an element for human formation aimed at questioning and transforming reality. Along with this study, an empirical research was carried out with students from a Chemistry graduation course in the Center-West region of Brazil, linked to a Chemistry sub-project of the Institutional Program of Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID). The Pedagogical Project of the Course was previously analyzed in order to investigate the possible presence of environmental contents and, through questionnaires, the subjects‟ environmental concepts and the aspects of their experiences were identified. Subsequently, we analyzed the conceptual formation and the evidences of awareness of these subjects over a semester, in a Discussion Group which held 14 meetings. The meetings were filmed, transcribed and analyzed using Micro-genetic Analysis, based on Lev Vygotsky. Through the analyses, four categories, which involve the environmental concepts discussed were elaborated: 1) the view of what environment is; 2) the explanations about the environmental crisis; 3) the motivations and educational instances in the formation of the environmental educator; and 4) the me-other view in the world and the neoliberal rationality. After this elaboration, two indicators of the meaning-sense relation that comprise affective and intellectual elements were identified: 1) affective expressions and; 2) concept generality relations. Such indicators came up, implicitly or explicitly, in the enunciations of all categories. To those indicators were elaborated sub-indicators. It was observed that the concepts most mobilized by students were those constructed in other educational instances such as the church and the media, which reflected little school Education influence. The students presented a fragmented view that did not regard the human being as a form of nature existence. The discussions demonstrated limitations in the relations of their conceptual networks, with little amplitude in the degrees of generality. Since the EAC questioned many meanings that were stable for students, we observed their backlash against some of the concepts /themes, which resulted in the students‟ resistance to learning them. The verbal students‟ interventions were predominantly grounded on a network of spontaneous concepts based on a neoliberal project of society. On the other hand, it was possible to note the importance and formative potentiality of studying time and dialogues prompted to broaden students' conceptual network, denaturalize socio-environmental relations and contribute to the reflection process and appropriation of scientific concepts.
A compreensão de fundamentos dos processos de ensino e aprendizagem de conceitos ambientais na formação inicial de professores de ciências é um ponto relevante para se pensar as potencialidades da Educação Ambiental Crítica (EAC). Nesse contexto, o problema de investigação da presente pesquisa foi: como se dá a relação entre a apropriação dos conhecimentos ambientais e a formação humana, no ato de conhecer, em um espaço educativo específico? Buscou-se investigar como o ensino de conceitos ambientais, numa abordagem dialética, pode contribuir na tomada de consciência e na elaboração conceitual de estudantes, em um contexto específico de educação escolar, e, assim, elaborar novas compreensões desses processos. O Materialismo Histórico-Dialético e a Teoria Histórico-Cultural foram as principais teorias que orientaram as posições metodológicas e epistemológicas desta investigação. Foi realizado um estudo teórico sobre: 1) as determinações fundamentais da instauração da crise ambiental, considerando-a como um processo histórico; 2) a perspectiva histórica e dialética da relação sociedade e natureza; 3) elementos da formação humana, com foco no desenvolvimento das Funções Psicológicas Superiores, em específico a formação de conceitos e a tomada de consciência; e 4) a Educação Ambiental como educação política e como elemento para a formação humana com vistas ao questionamento e à transformação da realidade. Paralelo a esse estudo, realizou-se uma pesquisa empírica desenvolvida com estudantes de um curso de Licenciatura em Química, da região Centro-Oeste do Brasil, vinculados a um subprojeto de Química do Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência (PIBID). Analisou-se previamente o Projeto Pedagógico do Curso para identificar a presença ou não de conteúdos ambientais e, por meio de questionários foram identificados conceitos ambientais dos sujeitos e aspectos de suas vivências. Posteriormente, analisou-se o processo de formação conceitual e os indícios de tomada de consciência desses sujeitos ao longo de um semestre em um Grupo de Discussão que realizou 14 encontros. Os encontros foram filmados, transcritos e analisados, utilizando-se a Análise Microgenética fundamentada em Lev Vigotski. Por meio da análise, quatro categorias, que envolvem os o de natureza; 2) as - relação sentido-significado que abarcam elementos afetivos e intelectuais foram identificados: 1) expressões conceitos. Tais indicadores apareceram, implicitamente ou explicitamente, nos enunciados de todas as categorias. Desses indicadores elaborou-se subindicadores. Observou-se que os conceitos mais mobilizados pelos estudantes foram os construídos em outras instâncias educativas, como a igreja e a mídia, havendo pouca influência da educação escolar. Os estudantes apresentaram uma visão fragmentada que não considerou o ser humano como uma forma de existência da natureza. As discussões demonstraram limitações nas relações de suas redes conceituais, com pouca amplitude nos graus de generalidade. Devido à EAC questionar muitas significações estáveis para os estudantes, observou-se o estranhamento de alguns conceitos/temas, gerando resistência em apreendê-los. As intervenções verbais dos estudantes basearam-se, predominantemente, em uma rede de conceitos espontâneos pautada em um projeto neoliberal de sociedade. Por outro lado, observou-se a importância e a potencialidade formativa de momentos de estudo e diálogo sistematizados para ampliar a rede conceitual dos estudantes, desnaturalizar as relações socioambientais e contribuir para o processo de reflexão e apropriação dos conceitos científicos.

O Programa Mais Educação (PME), instituído em 2007, surge como uma estratégia do Governo Federal para induzir a ampliação da jornada escolar e a organização curricular na perspectiva da educação integral. Este programa integra diferentes saberes, espaços educativos e pessoas da comunidade e visa desenvolver uma educação pública de qualidade. O objetivo desta pesquisa de caráter predominantemente qualitativo foi investigar como a escola com jornada educativa ampliada, por meio do Programa Mais Educação (PME), pode colaborar para o desenvolvimento de uma educação conscientizadora na rede municipal de ensino fundamental de São Gabriel-RS. Realizou-se uma análise qualitativa por meio da aplicação de questionários que permitiu compreender a visão dos educadores do município sobre as concepções acerca de educação integral e Programa Mais Educação. Percebemos uma visão simplificada do Programa, visto que uma minoria participou de cursos de formação sobre educação integral e PME. Observamos também que poucas escolas aderiram aos macrocampos educação ambiental e desenvolvimento sustentável, dado que nos chamou a atenção ao considerarmos as influências da produção científica e tecnológica no modo atual de vida da sociedade. Diante disso, partimos para uma intervenção nas oficinas pedagógicas do PME, com estudantes do ensino fundamental, onde desenvolvemos sete oficinas de educação ambiental com uma abordagem CTS (Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade) sobre a temática do lixo. Encontramos lacunas no ensino das relações lixo e meio ambiente, principalmente com relação ao seu destino, observamos que os estudantes não possuíam uma visão mais clara dos impactos de nossas atitudes e a sua relação com o lixo. A partir dessas dúvidas,foram desenvolvidas atividades embasadas nos Três Momentos Pedagógicos (Delizoicov e Angotti, 1992) propiciaram a participação ativa dos alunos, oportunizando informações para o pensamento reflexivo e a tomada de decisões. Ao final deste trabalho apresentou-se um vídeo com os conceitos construídos pelos estudantes durante as oficinas. Esse vídeo foi utilizado como recurso informativo para a população, em diversos espaços da comunidade como: sala de espera da prefeitura e espaços de propagandas de mídias na praça central da cidade. Por fim, disponibilizamos o vídeo no YouTube e um livreto com as oficinas aplicadas nesta pesquisa para as educadoras da escola envolvida e a todos os professores de ciências que tiverem interesse, pois está disponibilizado nos apêndices deste trabalho.
The PMC (More Education Program) established in 2007 emerges as a strategy from the Federal Government to induce the enlargement of the school´s day work as well as the curriculum organization aiming the overall education. That program integrates different knowledges, and seeks to develop a public education with quality. The target of this research, which has a mainly qualitative outline, was to investigate how a school with such enlarged day work through the PME Program can cooperate for the development of an education with awareness in the city´s elementary school in São Gabriel-RS. An analysis was performed both quantitative and qualitative through the application of questionnaires which allowed to understand the São Gabriel teachers´ vision about the conceptions concerning the overall education and the PME. We have noticed a simplified vision of that Program, since a minority have participated in the formation courses about overall education and the PME. We have also perceived that few schools joined the macrofields overall education and sustainable development, data which was evident when we considered the influences of the scientific and technological production in the society´s present way of life. Being so, we have started and intervention in the PME´s workshops with students from the elementary school, where we developed seven workshops of environmental education with a STS approach (Science, Technology and Society) about the trash theme. We have found gaps in the teaching of the trash/environment relationship, mainly as to its destination, where we have noticed that the students did not have a clear notion of the impact our actions and attitudes in relation to the trash. After these doubts, the development of activities based on the Three Pedagogical Moments (Delizoicov and Angotti, 1992), enabled the students´ active participation generating information for the reflexive thought and the decision-making. At the end of this work, a video was presented with concepts built by the students during the workshops. That video was used as an information resource for the population, in several spaces of the community such as; the City Hall´s waiting room, spaces of media on the main square. Finally, that video was also made available to YouTube followers, and a brochure with the workshops used in that research for the tutors of the related school and to all science teachers who have shown interest, since it is available at the addendum of this work.
