Abstract:
Diseases in agricultural plants are one of the most important problems of agricultural production. These diseases cause decreases in production and this poses a serious problem for food safety. One of the agricultural products is sunflower. Helianthus annuus, generally known as sunflower, is an agricultural plant with high economic value grown due to its drought-resistant and oil seeds. In this study, it is aimed to classify the diseases seen in sunflower leaves and flowers by applying deep learning models. First of all, it was classified with ResNet101 and ResNext101, which are pre-trained CNN models, and then it was classified by adding squeeze and excitation blocks to these networks and the results were compared. In the study, a data set containing gray mold, downy mildew, and leaf scars diseases affecting the sunflower crop was used. In our study, original Resnet101, SE-Resnet101, ResNext101, and SE-ResNext101 deep-learning models were used to classify sunflower diseases. For the original images, the classification accuracy of 91.48% with Resnet101, 92.55% with SE-Resnet101, 92.55% with ResNext101, and 94.68% with SE-ResNext101 was achieved. The same models were also suitable for augmented images and classification accuracies of Resnet101 99.20%, SE-Resnet101 99.47%, ResNext101 98.94%, and SE-ResNext101 99.84% were achieved. The study revealed a comparative analysis of deep learning models for the classification of some diseases in the Sunflower plant. In the analysis, it was seen that SE blocks increased the classification performance for this dataset. Application of these models to real-world agricultural scenarios holds promise for early disease detection and response and may help reduce potential crop losses.

Abstract:
A conductive two-dimensional, phthalocyanine metal–organic framework material (CoPc-Cu MOF) was successfully modified onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to construct an electrochemical sensor for the high-sensitivity detection of nifedipine (NIF). The 2D MOF was obtained by complexing (2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octahydroxyphthalocyaninato) cobalt(II) ([OH]8PcCo) with copper(II) ions (denoted as CoPc-Cu MOF). Under optimal conditions, the CoPc-Cu MOF/GCE sensor showed a wide linear range (0.01−92.55 μM) and a low detection limit (6.0 nM) for the determination of NIF. Moreover, the electrochemical sensor exhibited high repeatability, stability, and selectivity. The electrochemical sensing platform was applied to the real determination of NIF in tablets and showed satisfactory results.

Abstract:
Brain imaging devices can provide a glimpse at neural activity in multiple spatial locations and time points. Moreover, neuroimaging studies are usually conducted for multiple individuals undergoing the same experimental protocol. Inferring the underlying sources is a challenging inverse problem that can only be tackled by biasing the solutions with prior domain knowledge. Several prior hypotheses have been pursued in the literature such as promoting sparse over dense solutions or solving the problem for multiple subjects at once. However, none take advantage of the particular spatial geometry of the problem. The purpose of this thesis is to exploit the multi-subject, spatial and temporal aspects of magneto-encephalography data as much as possible to improve the conditioning of the inverse problem. To that end, our contributions revolve around three axes: optimal transport (OT), sparse multi-task regression and time series. Indeed, the ability of OT to capture spatial disparities between measures makes it very well suited to compare and average neural activation patterns based on their shape and location over the cortical surface of the brain. For the sake of scalability, we take advantage of the entropic formulation of optimal transport, which we argue has two important missing pieces. From a theoretical perspective, it has no closed form analytical expressions, and from a practical perspective, entropy leads to a significant increase in variance known as "entropic bias". We complete this puzzle by studying multivariate Gaussians for which we uncover an entropic OT closed form and propose "debiased" algorithms to compute fast and accurate optimal transport barycenters. Second, we define a multi-task prior based on OT and sparse penalties to jointly solve the inverse problem for multiple subjects to promote spatially coherent solutions. Our real data experiments highlight the benefits of using OT as a prior over classical multi-task regression penalties. Finally, we propose a loss function to compare and average spatio-temporal data that computes temporal alignments across spatially similar observations of the data via a fast GPU friendly algorithm

Abstract:
Blood coagulation is a series of biochemical reactions that take place to form a blood clot. Abnormalities in coagulation, such as under-clotting or over- clotting, can lead to significant blood loss, cardiac arrest, damage to vital organs, or even death. Thus, understanding quantitatively how blood coagulation works is important in informing clinical decisions about treating deficiencies and disorders. Quantifying blood coagulation is possible through mathematical modeling. This review presents different mathematical models that have been developed in the past 30 years to describe the biochemistry, biophysics, and clinical applications of blood coagulation research. This review includes the strengths and limitations of models, as well as suggestions for future work.

Abstract:
The present work is part of a research project that involves the study of new ruthenium-based transition metal complexes in order to develop new metal-ligand bifunctional catalysts to employ in homogeneous catalytic systems, in particular in redox reactions such as hydrogenation and dehydrogenation through hydrogen transfer. My project is focused on the optimization of the synthesis of Ru(0) complexes that combines different ligands as tetraphenylcyclopentadienone and N-heterocyclic carbenes and the synthesis of the corresponding cationic complexes by protonation. Furthermore, it is reported the synthesis and characterization of a new cationic complex obtained by methylation of the corresponding neutral complex. All the prepared complexes were employed as catalyst precursors in the transfer hydrogenation of 4-fluoroacetophenone and their performances were investigated in relation to the type of ligands, additives and counterions. The reactivity of these ruthenium complexes was also investigated with the aim of delineate some hypothesis on the reaction mechanism, in particular employing pyridine as a trapping agent. Finally, preliminary studies on the oxidation of benzyl alcohol have been carried out.

Abstract:
Collective properties of the radioactive nuclei 220Rn and 224Ra have been studied via Coulomb excitation of a 2.8 A.MeV radioactive ion beam (RIB) incident upon 60Ni, 112,114Cd and 120Sn targets. The experiments took place at the REX-ISOLDE RIB facility, CERN. De-excitation γ-ray yields following multiple-step Coulomb excitation were detected in coincidence with recoiling target nuclei in the Miniball spectrometer. For the first time, B(E3;3+ → 0+) values have been directly measured with a radioactive ion beam. In the process, 224Ra becomes the heaviest post-accelerated RIB to date at ISOLDE (with the possible exception of the quasi-stable 238U). The measurements presented in this thesis represent a tripling of the number of nuclei around Z ≃ 88 and N ≃ 134, for which direct measurements of the octupole collectivity have been performed. The only previous measurements being for the relatively long-lived 226Ra. The γ-ray yields, in conjunction with previously measured spectroscopic data, were used to determine electromagnetic matrix elements using the least-squares search code, Gosia. In total, nine E1, E2 and E3 matrix elements were measured in 220Rn (plus six upper limits) and 12 (plus four upper limits) in 224Ra. The measured B(E3; 3+ → 0+) values in 220Rn and 224Ra are 32±4 W.u. and 42±3 W.u., respectively. A new state has been observed at 937.8(8) keV in 220Rn and is proposed to be the 2+ member of the K = 2, γ-vibrational band. The results are interpreted in terms of the collectivity and deformation, and are compared with the predictions of self-consistent mean-field theory and cluster model calculations.

The Toxoplasma gondii micronemal proteins TgMIC1 and TgMIC4 (TgMICs) are part of a protein complex located on the surface of the parasite responsible for the process of cellular adhesion and invasion. The goal of the present work was to study a piezoelectric device containing the recombinant MICs (rTgMIC1 or rTgMIC4) and use it in determining the affinity constants between the MICs with fetuin and asialofetuin, employing the Langmuir isotherm model. The devices were developed using the approach of self‐assembled monolayer (SAM) in ethanolic solution containing 2.5 mM of 11‐mercaptoundecanoic acid (11‐MUA) and 7.5 mM of 6‐mercaptohexanol (C6OH). The SAM formation, held at room temperature for 12 h, was monitored by the Quartz Crystal Microbalance technique with Dissipative Factor (QCM‐D) and cyclic voltammetry using the redox couple [FeII(CN)6]4‐/FeIII(CN) 6]3‐. The results obtained from both techniques showed the formation of a rigid and high surface degree coverage SAM after a slow kinetic process in which adsorption and organization of the thiols occur simultaneously. For the immobilization of rTgMICs, aqueous solution containing 10 mM EDC N‐ethyl‐N‐(dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide and 20 mM NHS (N‐hydroxysuccinimide) was used for 2 h, and the process followed by QCM‐D was consistent with those found in the literature. By the same technique it was found that both rTgMICs are immobilized on the quartz crystal after incubation whit solution 0.15 mg/mL of each rTgMIC in Tris‐HCl containing 200 mM NaCl (pH 8.0) for 2 h. Unlike the functionalization of the quartz crystal rTgMIC4, remaining adsorption sites were observed in the process using the rTgMIC1, wherein the blocking step using 0.1% gelatin solution for 2 h was required. Throughout the QCM‐D technique it was possible... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Contudo, fatores abióticos e bióticos afetam a expansão dessas florestas.
Eucalyptus plantations in Brazil are among the most productive ecosystems in the world. The eucalyptus wood has its principal use in the paper and cellulose industry. However, abiotic and biotic factors affect the expansion of forest plantation. Water availability is the major limitation to development of species affecting biomass production. The plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) triggers resistance responses to abiotic stresses, in particular to drought. The objective of this study was to identify Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) in nine-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED), enzyme of ABA biosynthetic pathway, in Eucalyptus. Through the utilization of amino acid sequence of this enzyme of Arabidopsis (AtNCED3) and using availability Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) database of Eucalyptus, as possible the development of three PCR primers that amplified the desirable regions of the gene. Thus, specifics primers were designed and amplification products of different individuals submitted to direct sequencing. The alignment and analysis of sequences revealed the occurence of seven SNPs in NCED gene, in a region of 1230 base pairs. The rate of transition/transversion was 1.33. After the prediction of protein, by the sites Softberry and Expasy, it was verified five SNPs, in coding region, that generated synonymous substitutions. Using the DnaSP program, seven haplotypes were found in a sample of 65 individuals, consisting of the species E. grandis, E. urophylla and the hybrid Urograndis. For these seven polymorphic sites were designed SNPs markers sets that will allow large-scale genotyping for population genetic studies and assisted breeding programs

Abstract:
Over the past two years, we have conducted two experimental test series aimed at examining typical performance of gasoline V-twin engines in the 25 hp class, and the suitability of assumed mechanical efficiency in correcting observed measurements. We used engines manufactured by Honda, Kawasaki, Kohler, and Subaru (Robin). The tests were conducted at the Engines Laboratory of the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly). The Kohler engines are fuel injected while the others three are carbureted. We tested twenty-eight engines in total. The first series of tests included four horizontal shaft engines from each of the manufacturers (sixteen in total), and followed the general guidelines of SAE standard J1349-199506. This paper reports primarily on the subsequent series of twelve engine tests, which included vertical shaft engines of an equivalent family (and displacement class), from three of the original manufacturers: Honda, Kawasaki and Kohler. All three engines have roughly the same engine speed range (2000–4000), and all three reportedly reach peak power at 3600rpm. This is typical of small engines, which may be used to drive small generators in addition to being installed on other equipment. Vertical shaft engines are typically tested on a vertical shaft dynamometer, or one that converts from a horizontal to vertical position. However, these dynamometers are typically either of the water brake or eddy current type. They cannot motor the engine, and thus cannot measure friction mean effective pressure (FMEP) directly, which is the preferred method to quantify friction and mechanical efficiency for engine testing. However, testing vertical shaft engines on a horizontal shaft motoring dynamometer requires an angled gear drive to mate the engine to the dynamometer, and thus adds a loss that complicates the accurate measurement of FMEP and brake output. We present here results using a simple method with which our measurements can be corrected for this loss, in tests of this sort. The study thus expands on our previous results, and shows the extent by which engine to engine variations are affected by shaft configurations, within a given model family, and within similar offerings by different manufacturers. We also analyzed our results to contrast the methodology of SAE J1349-199506 with that of the updated J1349-201109, specifically with respect to using an assumed value of mechanical efficiency to characterize FMEP and correct dynamometer data on small, general utility engines.

Abstract:
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) combustion allows for the use of fuels with octane requirements below that of spark-ignited engines. A reference gasoline was compared with iso-octane and a low octane blend of gasoline and 40% n-heptane, NH40. Experiments were conducted on a single cylinder engine operating with negative valve overlap (NVO). The fuel flow rate per cycle was compensated based on the lower heating value to maintain a constant energy addition across fuels. Iso-octane and gasoline demonstrated similar maximum load, achieving a gross IMEPg of ∼430 kPa, whereas the NH40 demonstrated an increased IMEPg of ∼ 460kPa. The NH40 could be operated at a later phasing compared with the higher octane fuels, and exhibited a shorter burn duration at a given fueling rate and phasing. These results could be due to compositional differences, as NH40 required less NVO compared to iso-octane and gasoline, leading to less thermal and compositional stratification, as well as a higher O2 concentration and less residual gas. Additionally, the NH40 fuel demonstrated a higher intermediate temperature heat release than the higher octane fuels, potentially contributing to the shorter burn duration. Overall, these results demonstrate clear benefits to NVO enabled HCCI combustion with low octane fuels.

Abstract:
Abstract The laminated cooling configuration can effectively enhance heat transfer and improve cooling effectiveness through combining the advantage of impingement cooling, film cooling and pin fin cooling. In this study, four laminated configurations with different pin shape including circular pin shape, curved rib pin shape, droplet pin shape and reverse droplet pin shape are numerically investigated. Extensive analysis are conducted within the blowing ratio range of 0.2–1.8 to reveal the influence of pin shape on heat transfer characteristics and cooling performance. Compared with circular pin shape, other three pin shapes can enable more complex internal flow field, which greatly affect the heat transfer performance. Among these shapes, the droplet pin shape presents the best capacity on improving heat transfer performance and distribution due to its stramlined shape and little upstream surface, especially at relatively high blowing ratio and the augmentation can be up to 7.91% under the blowing ratio of 1.7. Besides, results show that the cooling effectiveness can be enhanced by adopting curved rib pin shape and the enhancement monotonously increases as the blowing ratio increases. When blowing ratio is 1.7, the improvement can be 2.7%. The reason is that the large lateral blockage decreases the exhausted velocity and hence forms relative firm film coverage.

Abstract:
This paper deals with the numerical analysis on added resistance of a ship by 3-D Green Function Method. Linear potential theory has been used to describe the fluid motion and 3-D sink-source technique with forward speed has been applied to determine hydrodynamic forces for surface ship advancing in waves at constant speed. After solving the motion equation in frequency domain, radiation potential due to motion responses have been calculated to obtain the total potential of the flow field. Then, total potential and its derivatives have been obtained to assess the added resistance in waves by near field approach. To show the validity of the numerical code, the present numerical results for motion responses and wave loads on ships have been compared with experimental data as well as some numerical results by different approaches. Then the added resistances given by present numerical calculation by 3-D Green Function have been compared with some classical 2-D methods as well as experimental data for Series 60 ships. Finally the present numerical calculations have been applied for fuller form slow speed vessel where the classical 2-D methods usually fails to give good results due to their inherent limitations. The numerical results suggest that better agreement have been achieved in many cases using present full 3-D Green Function method.

Abstract:
The objective of this work is to present the implementation of a contact model that represents, during a nonlinear dynamic analysis of floating offshore systems, the contact of lines with the platform, as well as the contact involving different lines and, eventually, involving two different platforms in the same model. Traditional contact models consider for instance a generalized scalar element, consisting of two nodes linked by a non-linear gap spring. In this work, the contact model is geometrically defined by volumes that cannot interpenetrate. A penetration stiffness can be defined for each volume; lateral friction can also be considered by this model. An appropriate data structure is used to define the volumes and guarantee the efficiency of the algorithm by an optimized search. The application of the presented contact model is demonstrated by case studies of actual applications for offshore systems: pipelines in S-Lay installation operations, where the contact is complex, specified only in some points of the ramp and stinger; offloading floating hoses that may collide with the hull of the ship, and catlines in lift operations.

Abstract:
For the approval process of offshore platforms and offshore wind farms, risk analyses that consider collisions between ships and stationary offshore structures are helpful and sometimes necessary. Ship traffic, meteorological and hydrological data are important input information for the investigated sea area. Possible collision scenarios with powered ships sailing into the structures and disabled ships drifting into the structures have to be investigated to determine the collision probabilities and the consequences. Furthermore, risk control measures have to be examined and assessed in such risk analyses. In recent years, Germanischer Lloyd has developed and applied suitable methods and procedures to evaluate the collision risk, including the influence of risk control measures. For these analyses, Germanischer Lloyd developed an analysis software that uses Monte Carlo simulations. For the evaluation of different risk control measures, Bayesian nets are used to determine the reduction of the collision probabilities for powered and drifting vessels and the corresponding risk. In this paper, the methods and processes that were developed are presented together with results of a sample collision risk analysis. Moreover, experience in the practical application of collision risk analyses is discussed, as part of the approval process for offshore wind farms.

Abstract:
A new generation of LES type model is used to simulate the flow around a Spar geometry. This new method involves a Variational Multiscale formulation, allowing better capture of the back scatter. This approach is well suited for flows where small scales transmit a notable amount of energy to larger ones. The flow simulation is compared with experimental data from a model test.

Abstract:
The spectral third-generation ocean wind-wave model WAVEWATCH III (WW3), operational since January 2005 at the Department of Applied Sciences of the University “Parthenope” (Italy), was adopted for simulating wave propagation in the Gulf of Naples. The model was coupled with PSU/NCAR mesoscale model (MM5), which gives wind forcing at 1-h intervals. The model was implemented using a four-nested grid configuration covering the Mediterranean Sea until the Gulf of Naples, the inner mesh with higher resolution (1 km × 1 km). The simulated directional spectral waves were compared with APAT storm wave data recorded in winter 2000 offshore the Gulf of Naples and with wind and wave data collected by Servizio Idrografico e Mareografico offshore the mouth of river Sele in the Gulf of Salerno. The implementation of the wave model with reference to the December 2004 storm on the coastlines of the Gulf of Naples gives evidence of the need of a regional wind-wave model for this orographically complex area.
