Sn–Zn-based alloys are promising low melting-point Pb-free solders, and it has been reported that their wetting properties and oxidation resistance can be improved with the addition of Cu. The interfacial reactions in the Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu/Cu couples at 250 °C and Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu/Ni at 280 °C were examined in this study. A thick γ–Cu5Zn8 phase layer and a very thin β′–CuZn phase layer were formed in both the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Cu and the Sn–9 wt% Zn–1 wt% Cu/Cu couples. The γ–Ni5Zn21 phase layer was formed in both the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Ni and Sn–9 wt% Zn–1 wt% Cu/Ni couples. With longer reaction time, the δ–Ni3Sn4 phase were formed in the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Ni couple as well. In both the Cu and Ni couples, the Zn-containing γ phases were uniform and planar and were the dominant reaction products. However, when the Cu content of the Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu solders was 10 wt%, the interfacial reaction product becomes the η–Cu6Sn5 phase in both the Cu and Ni couples.

Abstract The crystal structure of Na2Ba was determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. It is isostructural with the hexagonal Laves phase Zn2Mg; P63/mmc, a = 739.3(4) pm, c = 1199.9(9) pm. The compound Na4Ba reported in the phase diagram literature is actually Na2Ba. Comparisons are made with other Laves phases using a strain parameter diagram.

A tale technique for a 3-stage nine-level voltage source inverter utilizing sixteen switches is presented. The given system utilizes ordinary 3-stage scaffolds of two-level as a diode braced model. A DC interface voltage is provided so that the fell H-connect produces the nine voltage levels. The exchanging designs are expressed as the levels expand then the example is hard to create three-stage yields with key balance procedures. Here an answer for an a-level inverter to create required voltage-level with less power electronic parts by setting up in the look-into tables. This investigation diagrams the correlations between nine-level voltage source inverters in various arrangements and proposed novel, sixteen switch three-stage inverter structured with a smaller number of intensity electronic parts and reenacted in MATLAB/Simulink.

The present investigation reports mechanical properties of novel multicomponent TixCuyFe20Co20Ni20 high entropy alloys (HEAs) with different alloy chemistry (x/y = 1/3, 3/7, 3/5, 9/11, 1, 11/9 and 3/2). The alloy cylinders were prepared by vacuum arc melting-cum-suction casting route. The detailed electron microscopic observations reveal the presence of three different solid solution phases; FCC (a1) phase, FCC (a2) phase and BCC (b) phase for all the investigated alloys, whereas ultrafine eutectic between FCC (a1) phase, and Ti2 (Co, Ni) - type Laves phase has been observed for the HEAs with x/y = 9/11, 1, 11/9 and 3/2. Room temperature compression test of the suction cast cylinders with aspect ratio of 2/1 has been conducted to obtain mechanical properties of the HEAs. The optimum combination of strength (~ 1.88 GPa) and plasticity (~ 21 %) is obtained for x/y = 9/11; indicating simultaneous improvement of strength as well as plasticity of the novel HEAs. Fractographic analysis of the fractured surfaces reveals mixed mode of fracture for x/y = 1/3, 3/7 and 3/5, ductile mode for x/y = 9/11 and 1, whereas brittle mode of fracture for x/y = 11/9 and 3/2.

The microstructure and the chemistry distribution of AlNiCo 9 samples were characterized by the X-ray diffraction, magnetic force microscope, field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscope. An interface of a high Al content was formed near the FeCo-rich phases with a size of about 30 nm. S elements mainly combined with Ti to form titanium sulfide bars with the length between 70-150 μm, while S elements was not confirmed in the nanostructured FeCo-rich phase and AlNi-rich phase. Si and Nb preferably existed in the NiAl-rich phase, and a higher content Nb near the Cu precipitate boundary was observed. Moreover, the magnetic domain structure of AlNiCo 9 was also studied.

The three reported phases of the mononuclear macrocyclic PdIIcomplex [PdCl2([9]aneS2O)] [(1); [9]aneS2O = 1-oxa-4,7-dithiacyclononane] were each studied up to pressures exceeding 9 GPa using high-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The α- and γ-phases both exhibit smooth compression of the unit-cell parameters with third-order Birch–Murnaghan bulk moduli of 14.4 (8) and 7.6 (6) GPa, respectively. Between 6.81 and 6.87 GPa β-[PdCl2([9]aneS2O)] was found to undergo a reversible transition to a phase denoted as β′ and characterized by a tripling of the unit-cell volume. Across the phase transition, rearrangement of the conformation of the bound macrocycle at two of the resulting three unique sites gives rise to an extensively disordered structure.

Abstract The crystal structure of (CH3)3 NHBF 4 was studied in three solid phases by X-ray diffraction techniques. The structures of the ionic plastic phase (Phase I) stable above 453 K and Phase II between 384 and 453 K are CsCl-type cubic (a = 5.772(4) Å) and tetragonal (a = 9.815(5) and c = 6.895(5) Å), respectively. The room temperature phase (Phase III) forms a monoclinic lattice (space group P21/m, a = 5.7017(8), b = 8.5724(9), c = 7.444(1) Å, and ß = 102.76(1)°). BF4− ions in this phase were shown to be disordered in four orientations.

Abstract:
This study investigated the effects of melatonin supplementation on the daily mRNA expression of Bmp-15, Gdf-9, FSH (Fshr) and LH (Lhr) receptor genes and the effect of gonadotropin supplementation on protein expression of melatonin-synthetizing enzymes (ASMT and AANAT) during in vitro maturation (IMV) of rat follicle-enclosed oocytes. We also studied the effects of pinealectomy on the mRNA expression of Bmp-15, Gdf-9, Fshr and Lhr genes in immature oocytes and cumulus cells and on the protein expression and immunolocalization of AANAT and ASMT in immature ovaries. Ovaries were collected from sham-pinealectomized (INTACT) and pinealectomized (PINX) females during the light and dark phases of the 12h:12h light-dark cycle. Melatonin increased the Bmp-15 and Gdf-9 mRNA expression in follicle-enclosed oocytes during dark phase and Lhr mRNA expression during the light phase. The daily mRNA expression of Lhr was negatively correlated with the daily mRNA expression of Bmp-15 and Gdf-9 in follicle-enclosed oocytes supplemented with melatonin. There were no phase differences in oocytes mRNA expression of Bmp-15 and Gdf-9 from PINX females. Pinealectomy did not altered the mRNA expression of Lhr gene in cumulus cells. There were no phase differences in ASMT and AANAT expression in ovaries from INTACT and PINX females and their immunolocalization was seen in most of ovarian cells. AANAT expression in follicle-enclosed oocytes supplemented with LH from INTACT and PINX females was greater during the dark phase. The results suggest that melatonin regulates the daily Bmp-15, Gdf-9 and Lhr mRNA expression during the rat follicle development. There is also an indicative that melatonin plays an important role in the relationship between the daily expression of Lhr and the daily expression of Bmp-15 and Gdf-9 in follicle-enclosed oocytes during oocyte maturation process.

Low-temperature (c. 153 K) single-crystal X-ray structure determinations, carried out on trivalent rare earth iodides crystallized from aqueous solution at room temperature, have defined two series of hydrates, LnI3.nH2O. For Ln = La–Ho, a nonahydrate phase (n = 9) is defined, orthorhombic Pmmn, a ~ 11.5, b ~ 8.0, c ~ 8.8 Å, Z = 2, the second phase (n = 10), monoclinic P21/c, Z = 4 being defined for Ln = Er–Lu, a ~ 8.2, b ~ 12.8, c ~ 17.1 Å, β ~ 103.7˚. Neither of these phases is isomorphous with any of those pertinent to the previously studied chloride or bromide (hydrated) arrays, nor, unlike those, does the halide (iodide) in any case enter the coordination sphere of the lanthanoid. The n = 9 phase takes the form [Ln(OH2)9]I3, the nine-coordinate lanthanoid environment stereochemistry being tricapped trigonal-prismatic, while the n = 10 phase is [Ln(OH2)8]I3.2H2O, the eight-coordinate lanthanoid environment being square-antiprismatic.

First-principles calculations on BiFeO3 under low-pressure region show that the rhombohedral-monoclinic and rhombohedral-orthorhombic phase transitions can be found around the critical pressure value, ~9 GPa.We suggest that the structure involve the combination of these three phases and change to the pure orthorhombic phase gradually as pressure is beyond the critical value. Moreover, it is a first-order structural phase transition, accompanied with antiferromagnetic–ferromagnetic transition.

We measured glucose utilization index (GUI) values in individual skeletal muscles of conscious rats during the light (quiescent) and dark (feeding/activity) phases. There was a 2-3-fold variation in muscle GUI values, with peak values observed at the end of the dark phase and minimum values observed at 6-9 h into the light phase. GUI values in working muscles (soleus and adductor longus) were consistently higher than in non-working muscles (tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus), indicating that working muscles make the major contribution of the total skeletal muscle mass to glucose disposal during unrestricted feeding. There was a clear overall increase in muscle glycogen deposition during the first 9 h of the dark phase; this was concomitant with an increase in food consumption. Peak glycogen concentrations were reached after 9 h of darkness, but subsequently declined. The pattern of changes in muscle GUI values during the light and dark phases is discussed in relation to the role of insulin in facilitating glucose clearance.

Abstract The phase sequence of (Et4N)2ZnBr4 has been determined based on thermal analysis. Below the decomposition point (572 K) four phases are distinguished. The structures of three of the phases have been determined from 4-circle diffraction data at 240 (neu-trons), 299 and 373 K (X-rays), respectively. The multiply twinned low-temperature phase (at 240 K) is characterized by a pseudo-orthorhombic lattice (monoclinic, Plal, a = 17.6120(9] Å, b = 8.8195(4) Å, c = 16.1062(6) Å and ß=89.94(2)°), whereas the room-temperature phase (299 K:P421c, a = 8.9874(6)Åand c = 15.9774 Å) and the first high-temperature phase (373 K: P42 /nmc, a= 9.145(4) Å and c = 15.835(8) Å) belong to the tetragonal crystal system. The transitions between the three phases are essen-tially connected with a stepwise ordering of the Et4N+ ions, whereas the positions of the heavy atoms change only slightly. Three 81Br NQR lines are observed between 77 and 204 K.

We have previously shown binding of a monoclonal antibody MUD 9 to the cell surface of Dictyostelium discoideum amoebae and slug cells. In the slug stage the prestalk region was predominantly labelled, while vegetative amoebae showed a great heterogeneity in binding. In the present paper it is shown that the heterogeneous label of vegetative amoebae is due to differences in MUD 9 binding by cells in different cell cycle phases. Cells were synchronized by dilution from stationary phase and the level of MUD 9 binding was determined. Synchrony was determined by investigating increase in cell number and changes in the volume distribution of the cells, and by estimating the number of cells in S phase by monitoring bromodeoxyuridine (BUdR) incorporation. Simultaneously the amount of MUD 9 binding was determined by quantitative microscopy and flow cytometry. The amount of MUD 9 label varies during the cell cycle. The highest amount of label is found on cells early in the cell cycle, i.e. S-phase. These results support the finding that the developmental fate of Dictyostelium discoideum cells depends among other things on the cell cycle position of the cells at the moment of starvation.

The phase transformation behavior of 9Cr–3W–3Co–VNb steels with boron contents of 47 and 130 ppm has been investigated using differential thermal analysis (DTA). In our DTA experiments, disk-shaped samples were normalized and then tempered at temperatures between 10 and −50 °C from the ferrite-to-austenite transformation temperature (Ac1) at a rate of 30 °C/min. The measured Ac1 temperatures for 47 ppm B steel and 130 ppm B steel were 878 and 884 °C, respectively. The general features of the phase transformation behavior and the changes in hardness with tempering temperature for these boron containing steels were almost identical, irrespective of the boron content. In the DTA cooling curves during tempering at temperatures between −30 and 10 °C from the Ac1 temperatures, an exothermic peak due to the formation of fresh martensite was observed and the peak area increased with increasing tempering temperature. The Vickers hardness values measured after the DTA experiments decreased gradually with increasing tempering temperature, reaching a minimum value of about 180 HV around Ac1−40 °C, and then increased markedly, reaching a value of about 350 HV at Ac1+10 °C.
