Abstract:
Regarding the harmonics of AC current, when the AC phase is connected to the rectifier it will cause harmonics to appear on the AC line. In addition, this rectification process requires a large enough capacitor if you want to reduce the voltage ripple from the rectification result. The larger the capacitor, the smaller the ripple, but the higher the cost of the capacitor. So the author chose the title of the final project «Design of Electrical Power Transformation from 3 Phase to 9 Phase System Using an Iron Core Transformer. Problem Formulation How to design a multi-phase transformer, especially a 3-phase to 9-phase transformer. How to design a multi-phase transformer construction. For multiphase transformers, especially transformers from 3 phases to 9 phases, 3 single phase transformers can be used which have one coil on the primary side and 5 coils on the secondary side. To get a voltage on phase 2 with the same amplitude of 100 volts with phase 1 only 40 degrees different in phase, then a voltage of 113 volts on phase 1 with a phase angle of 0 degrees, plus a voltage on phase 4 of 74 volts with a phase angle 120 degrees. Then to get a voltage on phase 3 with the same amplitude of 100 volts, it takes a voltage of 74 volts on phase 1 with an angle of 0 degrees, plus a voltage on phase 4 of 113 volts with a phase angle of 120 degrees. trying to make this 3 phase to 9 phase transformer by using the construction of 1 3 phase transformer. do the calculation of the transformer power that will be designed.

Abstract:
Sn–Zn-based alloys are promising low melting-point Pb-free solders, and it has been reported that their wetting properties and oxidation resistance can be improved with the addition of Cu. The interfacial reactions in the Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu/Cu couples at 250 °C and Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu/Ni at 280 °C were examined in this study. A thick γ–Cu5Zn8 phase layer and a very thin β′–CuZn phase layer were formed in both the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Cu and the Sn–9 wt% Zn–1 wt% Cu/Cu couples. The γ–Ni5Zn21 phase layer was formed in both the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Ni and Sn–9 wt% Zn–1 wt% Cu/Ni couples. With longer reaction time, the δ–Ni3Sn4 phase were formed in the Sn–9 wt% Zn/Ni couple as well. In both the Cu and Ni couples, the Zn-containing γ phases were uniform and planar and were the dominant reaction products. However, when the Cu content of the Sn–9 wt% Zn–xCu solders was 10 wt%, the interfacial reaction product becomes the η–Cu6Sn5 phase in both the Cu and Ni couples.

Abstract:
A 9 wt.% Cr creep resistant power plant steel, P91, was subjected to transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray and optical analysis in order to identify a method that may be used to assess the thermal history of the steel and to identify material which may have been subjected to incorrect pre-service heat treatment. As a first step, the relatively simple technique of optical image analysis was used. Photographs of etched ex-plant P91 specimens were analysed using an automated optical image analyser in order to identify any apparent trends that may be used as an indicator to either the service history or the pre-service heat treatment of the steel. The main parameter used was the amount of black space on each image, itself a function of both precipitation within the material and etching procedure. This technique provided inconsistent results due to the inherent problems in creating reproducible images and sensitivity.

Abstract:
A dissertation submitted to the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Education (Mathematics Education) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Zululand, 2019.
Algebra is a mathematical concept that explains the rules of symbol operations, equations, and inequality. Algebra is a combination of logic and language; hence common mistakes and conceptions are either attributed to logic or language problems, or both. There is also ongoing debate about the fact that learners come to class with different ideas that result in errors and misconceptions when they solve algebraic equations and expressions. Based on this debate concerning both errors and misconceptions in solving algebraic equations and expressions, the purpose of this study was to investigate the errors and misconceptions committed by learners when learning Algebra. The study answered the following research questions: What are the types and the sources of errors and misconceptions committed by Grade 9 learners in Algebra learning? How do the types and the sources of errors and misconceptions influence errors in Grade 9 learners’ cognition when learning Algebra? Which strategies work to avoid errors? What are the sources of the errors and misconceptions in Algebra? Unlike the predominant existing studies, which are urban-based, this study was based in rural schools in the King Cetshwayo District of UMlalazi and Mtunzini Municipality. The structure of the observed learning outcome (SOLO) theory was adopted to observe, examine and analyse learners’ misconceptions in rural-based secondary schools.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
We present 2-D numerical simulations of two phase flow in seafloor hydrothermal systems using the finite control volume numerical scheme FISHES. The FISHES code solves the coupled non-linear equations for mass, momentum, energy, and salt conservation in a NaCl-H2O fluid to model the seafloor hydrothermal processes. These simulations use homogeneous box geometries at a fixed seafloor pressure of 25 MPa with constant bottom temperature boundary conditions that represent a sub-axial magma chamber to explore the effects of permeability, maximum bottom temperature and system depth on the evolution of vent fluid temperature and salinity, and heat output. We also study the temporal and spatial variability in hydrothermal circulation. The two-phase simulation results show that permeability plays an important role in plume structure and heat output of hydrothermal systems, but it has little effect on vent fluid temperature and salinity, given the same bottom temperature. For some permeability values, multiple plumes can vent at the seafloor above the simulated magma chamber. Temporal variability of vent fluid temperature and salinity and the complexity of phase separation suggest that pressure and temperature conditions at the top of the axial magma chamber cannot be easily inferred from vent fluid temperature and salinity alone. Vapor and brine derived fluids can vent at the seafloor simultaneously, even from neighboring locations that are fed by the same plume.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This work focuses on the formation and the evolution of microstructure and microtexture associated with the α phase precipitation at β/β GBs in titanium alloys. A β-metastable alloy (Ti17) has been studied, because the high temperature microstructure is frozen by a rapid quench and the untransformed parent phase remains. Numerous 2D EBSD analyses and some 3D analyses have been carried out after transformation and under various thermal and thermo-mechanical treatments (isothermal conditions and continuous cooling (CC) without and with prior deformation of the parent phase). One great originality of this study is the automated statistical approach used to characterize the microtexture from EBSD data. An algorithm has been specifically developed in order to get the variants orientation as well as different representative data characterizing the microtexture. We have identified the link between the nucleation/growth kinetics of α phase and the microtexture development, a relationship that is often neglected in the literature, where one usually associates the microtexture only to the variant selection and to the initial β texture. The occurrence of variants selection (VS) has been performed considering different VS criteria; it has been shown that VS is very active for the first grains formed. These grains have the most favorable nucleation conditions. The variant selected is the one that minimizes the deviation to the Burgers Orientation Relationship with both β grains; i.e. the one for which interfacial energy and especially the elastic energy associated to its formation are minimized. Moreover, the crystallographic conditions of α colonies formation are studied and discussed
