Abstract:
ABSTRACT Interleukin-6 (IL-6) induces the activation of the Src family kinase Hck, which is associated with the IL-6 receptor β-chain, gp130. Here we describe the identification of an “acidic” domain comprising amino acids 771 to 811 of gp130 as a binding region for Hck, which mediates proliferative signaling. The deletion of this region of gp130 (i.e., in deletion mutant d771-811) resulted in a significant reduction of Hck kinase activity and cell proliferation upon stimulation of gp130 compared to wild-type gp130. In addition, d771-811 disrupted the growth factor-stimulated activation of Erk and the dephosphorylation of Pyk2. Based on these findings, we propose a novel, acidic domain of gp130, which is responsible for the activation of Hck, Erk, and Pyk2 and signals cell proliferation upon growth factor stimulation.

Abstract:
Layered Ni-rich transition metal oxide materials have been considered as the most promising cathode utilized in Li-ion batteries, e.g., LiNi0.8 Mn0.1 Co0.1 O2 (NMC 811). However, one of the drawbacks of NMC 811 is its high air sensitivity, leading to a degradation layer forming on the surface, and a lower cycling performance. Since the degradation mechanism is not fully understood, in this work, we use ambient pressure photoelectron spectroscopy (APPES)1 to investigate the surface sensitivity of NMC 811 towards CO2 and H2O in situ, aiming to determine the factor triggering the degradation. Before gas exposure, NMC 811 surface was Ar+ sputtered to remove the pre-existing boron oxide coating. The changes in surface chemical composition were monitored as a function of time and gas pressure. Results show that carbonate compounds are formed on the surface when NMC 811 is exposed to CO2. The carbonate compounds start to appear already within 2 minutes in CO2 at around 10-5 mbar. More interestingly, this reaction is reversed at around 3x10-6 mbar. Changes induced by water are slower, however, the water vapour effect on NMC 811 surface is irreversible. Results indicate that lithium hydroxide is formed, where Li+/H+ exchange on the surface is a possible route.2 Kokkonen, E.; Lopes Da Silva, F.; Mikkelã, M.-H.; Johansson, N.; Huang, S.-W.; Lee, J.-M.; Andersson, M.; Bartalesi, A.; Reinecke, B. Abstract:
Background: Complications and adverse events after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction are well known, but they have been underestimated in previous studies. Purpose: To describe the complications and adverse events after ACL reconstruction within a 2-year follow-up and analyze them in relation to the type of graft. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: From 2000 to 2012, 958 patients with an isolated ACL injury underwent surgery by a single knee surgeon. ACL reconstruction was performed with the medial portal technique for the femoral tunnel and the use of bone–patellar tendon–bone (BPTB) or hamstring tendon graft. Patients were reviewed at 6 weeks and 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery with the International Knee Documentation Committee score, plain radiographs, and the KT-1000 arthrometer. Results: Of 958 patients enrolled, 147 (15%) were lost at last follow-up. The 2 groups (bone–patellar tendon–bone [n = 257] and hamstring [n = 554]) were similar regarding the mean age at the time of surgery and preoperative anterior laxity. The main complications were as follows: anterior knee pain (n = 130 of 811, 16%), stiffness (n = 72, 8.8%), secondary meniscal lesions (n = 59, 7.2%), pain attributed to fixation (n = 79, 9.7%), ACL rerupture (n = 47, 5.7%), contralateral ACL ruptures (n = 24, 3%), patellar fractures (n = 3, 0.3%), infections (n = 9, 1%), and thromboembolic complications (n = 5, 0.6%). There was no significant difference between the grafts with respect to the frequency of joint stiffness, secondary meniscal lesions, or anterior knee pain. During the first 2 postoperative years, the percentage of patients with anterior knee pain was higher in the patellar tendon group (23.3% vs 12.6%, P < .001); however, this difference was not significant after the 2-year interval (3.1% vs 2.5%, P = .63). The percentage of patients with a rerupture of the graft was significantly lower in the patellar tendon group than in the hamstring group (25 of 811 [3.1%] vs 57 of 811 [7%], P = .023). Similar results were recorded regarding the pain related to the hardware material (7 of 811 [0.8%] in the BPTB group vs 113 of 811 [13.9%] in the hamstring group, P = .001). The percentage of ACL ruptures contralateral to the repair was higher in the patellar tendon group (41 of 811 [5%] vs 17 of 811 [2%], P = .016). Conclusion: The total rate of complications after an ACL reconstruction was 39%, and the surgical revision rate for any reason was 28%. Problems with the hardware material were more frequent in the hamstring group, leading to an increased rate of surgical revision. Anterior knee pain was initially higher in the patellar tendon group, but there was no significant difference in a 2-year interval. The rerupture rate was statistically higher in the hamstring group.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objective: Previous studies comparing atomoxetine and methylphenidate to treat ADHD symptoms have been equivocal. This noninferiority meta-analysis compared core ADHD symptom response between atomoxetine and methylphenidate in children and adolescents. Method: Selection criteria included randomized, controlled design; duration 6 weeks; and assessment of ADHD Rating Scale–IV–Parent Version: Investigator Administered and Scored (ADHDRS) scores. Six-week response rates, defined as ≥40% reduction in ADHDRS total score, were compared using a noninferiority margin of −15%. Results: Seven studies met inclusion criteria ( N = 1,368). After 6 weeks, 53.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 48.6%-58.4%) of atomoxetine-treated patients ( n = 811) had responded compared with 54.4% (47.6%-61.1%) for methylphenidate ( n = 557), with atomoxetine demonstrating noninferiority to methylphenidate (absolute difference −0.9%, 95% CI −9.2%-7.5%). Conclusion: After 6 weeks of treatment atomoxetine and methylphenidate had comparable efficacy in reducing core ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents.

Abstract:
To gain insights into the structure and function of the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genomes, we identified 278 ESTs related to abiotic stress (cold, heat, drought, salinity, and aluminum) from 7671 ESTs previously mapped to wheat chromosomes. Of the 278 abiotic stress related ESTs, 259 (811 loci) were assigned to chromosome deletion bins and analyzed for their distribution pattern among the 7 homoeologous chromosome groups. Distribution of abiotic stress related EST loci were not uniform throughout the different regions of the chromosomes of the 3 wheat genomes. Both the short and long arms of group 4 chromosomes showed a higher number of loci in their distal regions compared with proximal regions. Of the 811 loci, the number of mapped loci on the A, B, and D genomes were 258, 281, and 272, respectively. The highest number of abiotic stress related loci were found in homoeologous chromosome group 2 (142 loci) and the lowest number were found in group 6 (94 loci). When considering the genome-specific ESTs, the B genome showed the highest number of unique ESTs (7 loci), while none were found in the D genome. Similarly, considering homoeologous group-specific ESTs, group 2 showed the highest number with 16 unique ESTs (58 loci), followed by group 4 with 9 unique ESTs (33 loci). Many of the classified proteins fell into the biological process categories associated with metabolism, cell growth, and cell maintenance. Most of the mapped ESTs fell into the category of enzyme activity (28%), followed by binding activity (27%). Enzymes related to abiotic stress such as β-galactosidase, peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and trehalose-6-phosphate synthase were identified. The comparison of stress-responsive ESTs with genomic sequences of rice (Oryza sativa L.) chromosomes revealed the complexities of colinearity. This bin map provides insight into the structural and functional details of wheat genomic regions in relation to abiotic stress.

Abstract:
The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of different fat extraction procedures on the fatty acids composition (FAs) of a NIST standard reference material, peanut butter (SRM2387). Extraction of fat was made with petroleum ether by applying six extraction procedures: Soxhlet automatic with Bchi B-811 unit: Soxhlet standard (SS); Soxhlet warm (SW); Hot extraction (HE) and Continuous flow (CF), repeated extraction with solvent (SR) and Soxhlet traditional extraction (ST), by using a Soxhlet extractor. Identification of FAMEs was based on retention time (RT) and the ratio of characteristic ions (m/z) of the reference standards F.A.M.E. Mix C4-C24 and SRM2377. FAMEs determination was realized by using internal standards (IS) and applying relative response factors (RRFi), and without IS by applying correction factors (Fi). Determination of FAMEs was performed on a GC-MS. Triglyceride of pentadecanoic acid (TAG-IS C15:0) was used as an IS to assess the analyte losses during FAMEs preparation steps, and tricosanoic acid methyl ester (FAME-IS C23:0) was used to evaluate the analyte losses on GC injection. Values of fat content and fatty acids composition determined by the 6 extraction procedures were compared with the NIST certified values of SRM2387. All 4 procedures of extraction made with Bchi unit B-811 were effective in fat extraction and analysis of fatty acids composition compared to standard methods. Between the experimentally determined values and the certified values there were no significant differences.

Abstract:
811 Background: Little knowledge is available for postsurgical changes in cognitive and physical functions that may be useful for considering indication for surgery in elderly patients with gastric cancer. We therefore conducted a prospective study aimed to determine the influence of gastrectomy on these patients. Methods: We recruited patients older than 75 years for whom gastrectomy for gastric cancer had been planned, and assessed their cognitive and physical functions, daily activities, episodes of depression, confusion, and delirium before surgery (baseline), upon discharge, and at 6 months after surgery (POM 6). Results: Among 54 elderly patients registered between February 2017 and February 2020. There were no significant decreases in MMSE scores between baseline and at POM 6, nor were there significant differences in physical function and indicators of depression and confusion between these time points. As many as 20% of patients were found to have the functional decline on the basic activities of daily living scores (BADL) after surgery compared with the baseline. The only variable significantly associated with a functional decline in BADL was postoperative complications. Conclusions: Postoperative cognitive functions did not significantly decline when compared with the baseline scores, although postoperative BADL scores of patients who experienced postoperative complications were significantly lower than those who did not.

Abstract. A comprehensive hydroclimatic data set is presented for the 2011 water year to improve understanding of hydrologic processes in the rain-snow transition zone. This type of dataset is extremely rare in scientific literature because of the quality and quantity of soil depth, soil texture, soil moisture, and soil temperature data. Standard meteorological and snow cover data for the entire 2011 water year are included, which include several rain-on-snow events. Surface soil textures and soil depths from 57 points are presented as well as soil texture profiles from 14 points. Meteorological data include continuous hourly shielded, unshielded, and wind corrected precipitation, wind speed, air temperature, relative humidity, dew point temperature, and incoming solar and thermal radiation data. Sub-surface data included are hourly soil moisture data from multiple depths from 7 soil profiles within the catchment, and soil temperatures from multiple depths from 2 soil profiles. Hydrologic response data include hourly stream discharge from the catchment outlet weir, continuous snow depths from one location, intermittent snow depths from 5 locations, and snow depth and density data from ten weekly snow surveys. Though it represents only a single water year, the presentation of both above and below ground hydrologic condition makes it one of the most detailed and complete hydro-climatic datasets from the climatically sensitive rain-snow transition zone for a wide range of modeling and descriptive studies. Abstract:
Abstract. The sensitivity of ground-based instruments measuring in the infrared with respect to tropospheric water vapour content is generally limited to the lower and middle troposphere. The large vertical gradients and variabilities avoid a better sensitivity for the upper troposphere/lower stratosphere (UT/LS) region. In this work an optimised retrieval is presented and it is demonstrated that compared to a commonly applied method, it improves the performance of the FTIR technique. The reasons for this improvement and the possible deficiencies of the method are discussed. Only by applying the method proposed here and using measurements performed at mountain observatories can water vapour variabilities in the UT/LS be detected in a self-consistent manner. The precision, expressed as noise to signal ratio, is estimated at 45%. In the middle and lower troposphere, precisions of 22% are achieved. These estimations are confirmed by a comparison of retrieval results based on real FTIR measurements with coinciding measurements of synoptical meteorological radiosondes.

Abstract:
Abstract. Assessment of soil quality is one of the key parameters for evaluation of environmental contamination in the mining ecosystem. To investigate the effect of coal mining on soil quality, opencast and underground mining sites were selected in the Raniganj coalfield area, India. The physical, chemical, and biological parameters of the soils, and trace metals and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) in the soils were evaluated. Soil dehydrogenase (+79 %) and fluorescein (+32 %) activities were significantly higher in underground mine (UGM) soil, whereas peroxidase activity (+57 %) was higher in opencast mine (OCM) soil. Content of As, Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Pb was significantly higher in OCM soil, whereas Cd was higher in UGM. In general, the PAHs contents were higher in UGM soils, probably due to the natural coal burning at these sites. The observed values for the above properties were converted into a unitless score (0–1.00) and the scores were integrated into an environmental soil quality index (ESQI). In the unscreened index (ESQI-1) all the soil parameters were included and the results showed that the quality of the soil was better for UGM (0.539) than the OCM (0.511) soils. Principal component analysis was employed to derive ESQI-2 and accordingly, total PAHs, loss on ignition, bulk density, Be, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, and microbial quotient (respiration: microbial biomass ratio) were found to be the most critical properties. The ESQI-2 was also higher for soils near UGM (+10.1 %). The observed indicators and the ESQI results revealed that soil quality assessment for these coal mining soils is largely depended on soil PAHs and potentially toxic trace metals. The proposed ESQI may be further refined by incorporating specific parameters related to human exposure risks and exposure pathways.

Abstract:
In this work, core and core–shell microparticles formed by Ni-Mn-Co oxides with controlled composition were fabricated by an oxalate-assisted co-precipitation route, and their properties were analysed by diverse microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. The microparticles exhibit dimensions within the 2–6 μm range and mainly consist of NiO and NiMn2O4, the latter being promoted as the temperature of the treatment increases, especially in the shell region of the microparticles. Aspects such as the shell dimensions, the vibrational modes of the spinel compounds primarily observed in the shell region, the oxidation states of the cations at the surface of the microparticles, and the achievement of a Ni-rich 811 core and a Mn-rich 631 shell were thoroughly evaluated and discussed in this work.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Laryngeal granuloma formation is an uncommon complication following endotracheal intubation. We describe a case wherein a pedunculated laryngeal granuloma developed following endotracheal intubation for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. The intubation was atraumatic, and extubation in the ICU was without complication. Following an initial uneventful recovery, the patient developed laryngopharyngeal reflux and contracted an upper respiratory infection (URI), at which point she progressively developed hoarseness of voice and foreign body sensation over a period of three months. We present her case discussing the management of a massive pedunculated laryngeal granuloma. Key words: Laryngeal granuloma, vocal cord granuloma, endotracheal intubation, laryngopharyngeal reflux. Abstract:
Disease progression (DP) in interstitial lung disease (ILD) is variable and difficult to predict. In previous reports, serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) was suggested to be useful in diagnosing and predicting survival in ILD. The aim of our study was to investigate the usefulness of serum KL-6 as a predictor of DP in ILD. Clinical data of 199 patients with ILD (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: 22.8%) were prospectively collected and serum KL-6 levels were measured. DP was defined as a relative decline in forced vital capacity (FVC) ≥ 10%, acute exacerbation, or death during follow-up. The median follow-up period was 11.1 months. The mean age of the subjects was 62.2 years, and 59.8% were male. DP occurred in 21.6% of patients. The progressed group showed lower FVC, lower diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide, lower the minimum oxygen saturation during the 6-minute walk test, higher fibrosis scores on high-resolution computed tomography, and higher KL-6 levels (826.3 vs. 629.0 U/mL; p < 0.001) than those of the non-progressed group. In receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, serum KL-6 levels were a significant predictor of DP in ILD (area under the curve = 0.629, p = 0.009, and the optimal cut-off level was 811 U/mL). In multivariable Cox analysis, high serum KL-6 levels (≥ 800 U/mL) were only independently associated with DP in ILD (HR 2.689, 95% CI 1.445–5.004, P = 0.002). Serum KL-6 levels might be useful to predict DP in patients with ILD.

Abstract:
Background Alemtuzumab is an effective therapy for relapsing multiple sclerosis. Autoimmune thyroid events are a common adverse event. Objective Describe endocrine and multiple sclerosis outcomes over 6 years for alemtuzumab-treated relapsing multiple sclerosis patients in the phase 3 CARE-MS I, II, and extension studies who experienced adverse thyroid events. Methods Endocrine and multiple sclerosis outcomes were evaluated over 6 years. Thyroid event cases, excluding those pre-existing or occurring after Year 6, were adjudicated retrospectively by expert endocrinologists independently of the sponsor and investigators. Results Thyroid events were reported for 378/811 (46.6%) alemtuzumab-treated patients. Following adjudication, endocrinologists reached consensus on 286 cases (75.7%). Of these, 39.5% were adjudicated to Graves’ disease, 2.5% Hashimoto's disease switching to hyperthyroidism, 15.4% Hashimoto's disease, 4.9% Graves’ disease switching to hypothyroidism, 10.1% transient thyroiditis, and 27.6% with uncertain diagnosis; inclusion of anti-thyroid antibody status reduced the number of uncertain diagnoses. Multiple sclerosis outcomes of those with and without thyroid events were similar. Conclusion Adjudicated thyroid events occurring over 6 years for alemtuzumab-treated relapsing multiple sclerosis patients were primarily autoimmune. Thyroid events were considered manageable and did not affect disease course. Thyroid autoimmunity is a common but manageable adverse event in alemtuzumab-treated relapsing multiple sclerosis patients. Abstract:
This research attempts to investigate the determinants of a sports team sponsor's brand equity and whether the proposed structural relationships vary across countries. Field data are collected from sports team fans in two Asian economies/countries, i.e. Taiwan and Indonesia. According to the findings, in general, team identification and perceived congruence between the sponsor and the sponsored sports team affect the sponsor's credibility, which in turn has an impact on the sponsor's brand equity. ‘Country’ moderates the above structural relationships. However, the effects of team identification and perceived congruence on the sponsor's credibility do not receive supportive evidence in Taiwan and Indonesia respectively.

Abstract:
Corticosteroid injections have been shown to be an effective treatment modality in many of the musculoskeletal and rheumatologic conditions. Yet, the potential adverse effects of corticosteroid injections have not been given much attention. One of the potential adverse effects that should be considered by clinicians is skin hypopigmentation and subcutaneous fat atrophy. Although it is a rare side effect, it may have cosmetically unpleasant effect. The aim of this case report is to highlight the importance of providing adequate information to the patients regarding these dermal adverse effects of corticosteroid injections. We report the case of a 31-year-old female who suffered from skin hypopigmentation and subcutaneous fat atrophy after triamcinolone injection given for de Quervain’s tenosynovitis. Abstract:
A parallel mechanism’s pose is usually obtained indirectly from the active joints’ coordinates by solving the direct kinematics problem. Its accuracy mainly depends on the accuracy of the measured active joints’ coordinates, the tolerances in the active and passive joints, possible backlash, axes misalignment, limb deformations due to stress or temperature, the initial pose estimate that is used for the numerical method, and the accuracy of the kinematic model itself. Backlash and temperature deformations in the active joints especially hinder high-precision applications as they usually cannot be observed. By implementing a camera module on the base platform and an array of fiducial tags on the moveable manipulator platform of a parallel mechanism, a highly accurate, direct, and absolute pose measurement system can be obtained that can overcome those limitations. In this paper, such a measurement system is proposed, designed, and its accuracy is investigated on a state-of-the-art H-811.I2 6-axis miniature hexapod by Physik Instrumente (PI) GmbH & Co. KG.

Abstract:
Abstract In a screen of over 100 FDA approved drugs on PFA 1q+ EPN cells, 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and All-Trans-Retinoic Acid (ATRA) were identified as inhibitors of EPN cell line growth. We performed in-vitro cell growth assays combining increasing doses of radiation and 5FU and found a significant synergistic effect on cell growth and apoptosis in 1q+ PFA EPN cell lines. Further growth attenuation was seen when ATRA was added 48 hours following radiation and 5FU treatment. This led us to development of preclinical studies in the 1q+ PFA orthotopic xenograft models MAF-811_XF and MAF-928_XF. In the initial cohort, tumors were allowed to establish prior to treatment start confirmed by MRI. In both MAF-811 and MAF-928, chemotherapy improved survival compared to no treatment. As consistent with standard of care, radiation significantly improved survival (p=0.0016) but there was no added benefit to combining 5FU or 5FU+ATRA with radiation. A second cohort was treated using the same treatment approach, however radiation and 5FU were started with minimal to no visible tumors by MRI. Interestingly, we found a significant increase in survival between vehicle control and combination 5FU+ATRA (HR 5.121, 95% CI: 0.2506, 2.409, p=0.048) in MAF-811 mice. However, again with radiation, there was no significant change in survival with only a single cycle of 5FU+ATRA. This led to continued maintenance of 5FU+ATRA cycles of 6 weeks with 2 weeks off for 4 cycles post radiation in mice with minimal tumor. When 5FU with radiation is followed by 5FU+ATRA and is continued in mice with minimal disease, survival significantly improved when compared to radiation alone (HR 9.020, 95% CI: 1.933 to 42.09, p=0.007). These studies highlight the importance of chemotherapy in minimal disease and is the rationale for a Phase I/II study in relapsed PFA EPN and in upfront 1q+ PFA EPN.

Abstract:
Background/aimShoulder pain is a major musculoskeletal problem. We aimed to identify which baseline patient and clinical characteristics are associated with a better outcome, 6 weeks and 6 months after starting a course of physiotherapy for shoulder pain.Methods1030 patients aged ≥18 years referred to physiotherapy for the management of musculoskeletal shoulder pain were recruited and provided baseline data. 840 (82%) provided outcome data at 6 weeks and 811 (79%) at 6 months. 71 putative prognostic factors were collected at baseline. Outcomes were the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) and Quick Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire. Multivariable linear regression was used to analyse prognostic factors associated with outcome.ResultsParameter estimates (β) are presented for the untransformed SPADI at 6 months, a negative value indicating less pain and disability. 4 factors were associated with better outcomes for both measures and time points: lower baseline disability (β=−0.32, 95% CI −0.23 to −0.40), patient expectation of ‘complete recovery’ compared to ‘slight improvement’ as ‘a result of physiotherapy’ (β=−12.43, 95% CI −8.20 to −16.67), higher pain self-efficacy (β=−0.36, 95% CI −0.50 to −0.22) and lower pain severity at rest (β=−1.89, 95% CI −1.26 to −2.51).ConclusionsPsychological factors were consistently associated with patient-rated outcome, whereas clinical examination findings associated with a specific structural diagnosis were not. When assessing people with musculoskeletal shoulder pain and considering referral to physiotherapy services, psychosocial and medical information should be considered.Study registrationProtocol published at http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2474/14/192.

Abstract:
Certain heavy metal contaminated site is taken as the example to determine whether the four pollutants, namely As, Cr, Cr (VI) and Ni, exceed the screen levels of soil pollutants for health risk assessment of residential lands specified in Screening Levels for Soil Environmental Risk Assessment of Sites (DB11/T 811-2011) through sampling analysis. In allusion to the main exposure pathway of sensitive population, RBCA model is adopted to assess the health risk of this site, and the results show that the carcinogenic risks of Cr (VI) and As in the three layers of tested sample soils both exceed 10-6 with Cr (VI) and Ni in the first and second layers have larger non-carcinogenic quotient. At last, 10-6 and 1 are regarded as acceptable risk levels, then the RBCA model is used to adversely deduce the pollution remediation target values of the site, and the calculated results are compared with Grade A standards specified in the Assessment Standards for Soil Environmental Quality of Exhibition Lands (Provisional) (HJ350-2007). Then the background values of local soil environment for correction and finally the relatively rational soil pollution remediation target values have been obtained: Cr (VI): 2mg•kg-1, As: 20mg•kg-1, Ni: 50mg•kg-1, Cr: 190 mg•kg-1.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to develop a self-report test to measure the multiple intelligences of elementary school students in grades 4-6, and to verify the reliability and validity of the test. For the study, domestic and international prior research related to measuring multiple intelligences was first reviewed. To operationally define multiple intelligences and develop test items, a panel of 13 experts underwent two rounds of Delphi surveys, resulting in 155 preliminary test items. A preliminary test was administered online to 375 participants, and after item analysis, 122 items were selected for the main test. The main test was administered to 1,062 participants, and after verifying item quality and considering test practicality through research team meetings, 97 final items were confirmed. The final developed test confirmed construct validity through confirmatory factor analysis, and the reliability of the eight multiple intelligence domains ranged from .811 to .878, which is satisfactory. To verify concurrent validity, 87 of the main test participants took the Career Development Competency Test for Elementary Students, confirming significant correlations between competencies measuring similar domains and intelligences.

Abstract:
Background Few data exist concerning conversion to secondary progressive MS in patients treated with disease-modifying therapies. Objective Determine the proportion of alemtuzumab-treated patients converting from relapsing-remitting to secondary progressive MS during the CARE-MS core and extension studies. Methods Patients ( N = 811) were analyzed post hoc for secondary progressive MS conversion. Optimal conversion definition: Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score ≥4, pyramidal functional system score ≥2, and confirmed progression over ≥3 months including confirmation within the functional system leading to progression, independent of relapse. Results Over 6.2 years median follow-up, 20 alemtuzumab-treated patients converted (Kaplan-Meier estimate, 2.7%; 95% confidence interval, 1.8%–4.2%). Sensitivity analysis accounting for dropouts showed similar results (3%), as did analyses using alternative definitions with different EDSS thresholds and/or confirmation periods, and analysis of core study subcutaneous interferon beta-1a-treated patients who received alemtuzumab in the extension. Patients converting to secondary progressive MS were older, and had higher EDSS scores and greater brain lesion volumes at baseline, but did not need additional alemtuzumab or other therapies. Conclusions The 6-year conversion rate to secondary progressive MS was low for alemtuzumab-treated patients, supporting further study of the role alemtuzumab may play in reducing risk of secondary progression. Abstract:
Endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is the method of choice for diagnosing a wide range of myocardial diseases.Aim. To assess the rationale for diagnostic EMB in children and adults.Material and methods. Morphological and statistical analysis of 2803 diagnostic EMBs in adults (n=811) and children (n=83), including those in heart transplantation (n=1909), was carried out.Results. In 231 (28%) cases, adults were diagnosed with myocarditis, of which in 6 patients — granulomatous, in 5 — eosinophilic and in 6 — lymphocytic-macrophage myocarditis after coronavirus infection. In children, myocarditis was found in 22 cases (27%). Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia took the second place in detection rate in children and adults. Immunohistochemical study revealed viral envelope protein 1 (VP1) antigen of enteroviruses in one third of myocarditis cases, and in half — other cardiotropic viruses. Dotted dystrophin expression was observed in myocarditis. A correlation was established between the perforin expression and myocarditis presence (Pearson χ2=27,8; Fisher's exact test=27,3; p=0,01).Conclusion. Analysis of diagnostic EMB results confirmed its rationale in adults and children not only for heart transplantation, but also for identifying cardiac pathology, including for myocarditis diagnosis. It has been shown that immunohistochemical study with antiviral antibodies can be considered as an alternative method for detecting viral infection. An immunohistochemical analysis for perforin and dystrophin can be recommended as additional morphological markers of myocarditis.

Abstract:
Two experiments were conducted to examine varietal, environmental, and storage influences on total phosphorus (P), phytate-P content, and phytase activity in a cohort of wheats grown in Western Australia. In Expt1, a 3 × 3 × 2 factorial experiment examined the influence of wheat variety (Arrino, Stiletto, Westonia), growing region (high, medium, low rainfall zone), and harvest year (1999, 2000). In Expt 2, the effect of storage for 6 months on the P composition of the wheats was examined. The total P and phytate-P concentrations ranged from 1.66 to 4.48 g/kg (DM) and from 1.05 to 3.32 g/kg (DM), with mean values of 2.64 (s.e. ±0.142) and 1.79 g/kg (s.e. ±0.127), respectively. Phytase activity ranged from 327 to 811 phytase activity units (FTU)/kg, with a mean value of 563 FTU/kg (s.e. ±29.6). Phytate-P content was significantly correlated with total P concentration (r = 0.97, P < 0.001). Harvest year tended to influence the total P and phytate-P content (P = 0.079 and P = 0.082, respectively) of the wheats, whereas wheat variety had a significant effect on the phytase activity (P < 0.05). Precipitation level (mm) was positively correlated to total P and phytate-P contents (P < 0.05). Storage for 6 months after harvest did not change the P content of wheat.

Abstract:
Among LiB cathode materials, lithiated NMC (Li1Ni(1-x-y)MnxCoyO2) formulations with ≥90% nickel have the potential to increase the specific capacity of LiBs, which is the most direct route to increasing the energy density of the battery. Lithiated NMC (LiNixMnyCo (1-x-y)) has the α-NaFeO2-type crystal structure of LiCoO2, but is chemically more evolved; nickel and manganese are substituted for cobalt, decreasing toxicity and expense, and increasing specific capacity [1-3]. Pristine 90% Nickel-rich cathode material frequently performs with a baseline cycling stability of ~75% over 50 cycles, regardless of synthesis method [4, 5]. NMC morphology is described as having secondary particles made up of many smaller primary particles, which is advantageous to packing density when in application- the best performing materials report secondary particle size of up to 20 μm, with primary particle size of ≤ 1 μm [6]. Fig. 1. Particle morphology of secondary particles up to ~20μm made up of primary particles ≤1μm. Microwave plasma at atmospheric pressure provides a facile method for cathode material fabrication. With a working gas of air, ionized gas catalyzed immediate reaction to form cathode precursors from metal salts. This commercializable synthesis method provides a solution to the excessive time and energy waste as well as the environmental and health hazards which are inherent in the coprecipitation manufacturing method that dominates the current NMC production market. In this work, high capacity NMC compositions are produced using the plasma fabrication method. Method produced desired “meat-ball” particle morphology of secondary particles up to ~20μm made up of primary particles ≤1μm. Ni rich Ni-Mn-Co (NMC) cathode materials were characterized for their lithium-ion capacity. Specifically, pristine cathode material with 955 and 811 compositions were prepared and tested using coin cells. Li-NMC with 955 (90% Ni; 5% Mn; 5% Co) cycled with initial specific capacity of 215 mAhg-1, with coulombic efficiency 99% at 20 cycles. Similarly, Li-NMC with 811 composition (80% Ni, 10% Mn and 10% Co) exhibited 190 mAhg-1 capacity and coulombic efficiency >99% over 20 cycles. Cyclic voltammetry confirmed three expected phase changes upon lithiation and delithiation, with clear durability and reversibility after first cycle. Layered crystal structure is confirmed with highly desired particle morphology for best packing density. NMC particles as synthesized by the atmospheric plasma method exhibit baseline NMC performance characteristics. [1] Vanessa Pimenta, M.S., Dmitry Batuk, Artem M. Abstract:
Abstract NF-κB signaling is a hallmark of PFA1 ependymoma. Loss of LDOC1, through epigenetic silencing, leads to constitutively active NF-κB signaling and chronic IL-6 secretion. In this study, we investigate the loss of LDOC1 within the PFA tumor clusters. Using our PFA scRNAseq database, in which there are 5 clusters within the tumor cell compartment: mesenchymal (MEC), ciliated (CEC), transportive (TEC), and undifferentiated (UEC). LDOC1 expression was significantly reduced and had an inverse correlation with genes defining the unfavorable MEC subpopulation, predominate in PFA1. This is consistent with our findings that MEC was defined by an NF-κB2 signaling profile. In contrast, LDOC1 expression was higher and positively correlated with genes defining the favorable CEC subpopulation, mostly seen in PFA2. RELA expression, which we studied as a target of LDOC1, was not localized to MEC and was wide-spread throughout the PFA compartment. RELB, part of non-conical NF-κB signaling, was expressed only the MEC subpopulation correlating with IL-6 gene expression found only in this subpopulation. In MAF-811, a PFA cell line with more CEC-like gene phenotype, RELB co-immunoprecipates with the active form of NF-κB2 in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. IL-6 gene expression is almost completely lost when NF-κB2 is knock-down using shRNA. Additionally, loss of LDOC1 leads to over 3 fold increase in NF-κB2 expression. Combined with our previous work, this would suggest that NF-κB2 drives IL-6 expression by binding with RELB in MEC subpopulation and targeting loss of LDOC1 may shift the MEC subpopulation toward the more favorable CEC subpopulation.

Abstract:
Background and Aims: A number of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors (tofacitinib, filgotinib, upadacitinib) have been tested for moderate and severe Crohn’s disease (CD) in randomized control trials (RCTs). However, data on their comparative efficacy and tolerability is lacking. We aimed to study their performance comparatively, by means of network meta-analysis (NWM). Methods: We searched the Pubmed/Medline, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases for relevant RCTs through March 2021 and data was extracted. A bayesian NWM was performed to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of the above JAK inhibitors and to explore their rank order in treating moderate and severe CD patients. The cumulative ranking probability for each intervention at the end of treatment period, was evaluated by means of surfaces under cumulative ranking (SUCRA) values. Results: Four RCTs were entered into this NWM. They included 811 patients totally, randomized to 11 interventions, i.e. placebo, tofacitinib (1mg BID, 5mg BID, 10mg BID, 15mg BID), filgotinib 200 OD and upadacitinib (3 mg BID, 6 mg BID, 12 mg BID, 24 mg BID and 24mg OD). Two upadacitinib doses (6 mg BID and 24 mg BID) and filgotinib 200 OD, performed best as judged by the relevant forest plots, league matrixes, rankograms, SUCRA values (96.7%, 84,6 %and 78,7%, respectively) and the clustered ranking plots for efficacy and tolerability. Conclusions: Upadacitinib 6 mg BID, upadacitinib 24 mg BID and filgotinib 200 OD performed better as induction therapies in comparison to control therapies. Consequently, these regimens may play a therapeutic role in CD and therefore they merit further evaluation with well-designed RCTs.

Abstract:
Abstract. The new mineral batoniite, [Al8(OH)14(H2O)18](SO4)5 ⋅ 5H2O, was discovered in the Cetine di Cotorniano Mine, Chiusdino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy. It occurs as hemispherical aggregates composed of brittle tabular crystals, up to 1 mm in size, white to colorless in color, with a white streak and a vitreous to greasy luster. Batoniite is biaxial negative, with α= 1.4833(6), β= 1.4948(6), γ= 1.5019(5) (589 nm), and 2V(meas.)= 71(1)∘. Electron microprobe analysis, affected by the dehydration of batoniite under the chamber vacuum, gave (in wt %) the following: Al2O3 33.48, Fe2O3 0.05, SO3 33.00, and H2Ocalc 44.41, total 110.94. It corresponds to the chemical formula (Al7.98Fe0.013+)Σ7.99(SO4)5.01(OH)13.95(H2O)18 ⋅ 5H2O. Batoniite is triclinic, belonging to space group P1‾, with a= 9.1757(6), b= 12.0886(9), c= 20.9218(15) Å, α= 82.901(3), β= 87.334(3), γ= 86.999(2)∘, V= 2297.8(3) Å3, and Z= 2. The crystal structure was refined to R1= 0.0916 for 8118 unique reflections with Fo>4σ(Fo) and 811 refined parameters and 60 restraints. Batoniite is characterized by isolated [Al8(OH)14(H2O)18]10+ polyoxocations, H-bonded to five interstitial (SO4)2− and five H2O groups. In type material, it is associated with gypsum and a poorly crystallized Al–Fe sulfate. The crystallization of batoniite is probably due to the action of H2SO4 on Al-bearing rocks of Paleozoic age cropping out in the Garibaldi Tunnel, the lowest mining level of the Cetine di Cotorniano Mine.
