Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objectives: To investigate the treatment efficacy and follow-up stability of the asymmetric Forsus appliance by evaluating longitudinal changes in dental arch asymmetry on digital dental models from 21 patients. Materials and Methods: Maxillary and mandibular reference lines were used for measurements of intra-arch asymmetry at pretreatment (T1), posttreatment (T2), and 4.2 years after treatment (T3). Maxillary and mandibular measurements were performed relative to the dental midline and anterior reference line on digital dental models. To determine the amount of asymmetry between the Class I and Class II sides of a given arch, all maxillary and mandibular parameters were measured on each side of the model separately. Repeated-measures analysis of variance/paired sample t-tests were performed to evaluate dental arch asymmetries at the P < .05 level. Results: The alveolar transverse dimensions of the posterior segment of both arches were increased during treatment (P < .05) and remained stable during the retention period. Class II subdivision malocclusion was caused by distal positioning of the mandibular canine, premolars, and first molar on the Class II side (P < .05). Asymmetry was resolved by treatment with asymmetric Forsus appliances. The resolved asymmetry remained stable over the long term. There were no significant differences between T2 and T3 (P > .05). Conclusions: The asymmetric Forsus appliance can be used to treat dental arch asymmetry in patients with Class II subdivision malocclusions.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the contribution of normal physiological changes to the overall manifestation of a relapse after orthodontic treatment. We analyzed long-term changes in the dentition of patients with Class I malocclusions after orthodontic treatment compared with a representative group with untreated Class I malocclusions. Materials and Methods: Study participants (n = 66; mean age, 12 years at treatment initiation) were treated for Class I malocclusions. Dental changes were evaluated at 2, 5, 10, and 15 years after treatment. Control participants (n = 79) had untreated Class I malocclusions (n = 53 evaluated at ages 12 and 22 years; n = 26 evaluated at ages 19 and 39 years). Dental changes were evaluated with the Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) index. Results: In untreated and treated groups, PAR scores increased over time with gender-specific changes. In the untreated groups, the PAR score significantly increased in male participants between the ages of 12 and 22 years (P = .04) and in female participants between the ages of 19 and 39 years (P = .001). In the treated group, early posttreatment changes were primarily related to the initial treatment response. Later changes in the PAR score could be attributed to physiological changes, with the same gender-specific changes as those observed in the untreated group. Conclusions: The pattern of physiological changes in dentition for participants between the ages of 12 and 39 was different between sexes. Females showed more relapse than males between 10 and 15 years posttreatment. This distinction should be considered when evaluating long-term orthodontic treatment responses.

Abstract:
The dates about effect of temperature of carbonizats obtaining from pine bark on evolution of a porous structure and sorption properties of the activated carbons, synthesized by the method of thermoalkaline activation in the presence of КОН were presented. It was determined, that for preparation of activated carbons with the greatest specific surface (1421 and 1655 m2/g) and micropores volume (0.58 и 0.71 sm3/g) pine bark carbonizats reasonable to obtain at temperature 300 and 400 °С correspondingly. The correlation of a iodine sorption with volume of micropores width 0.73–3.0 nm (R2=0.964) and a methylene blue sorption with volume of micropores width 0.84–2.0 nm (R2=0.995), which present in the activated carbons structure, was established. It was shown, that low capacity of the activated carbons to vitamin B12 sorption determine by low mesopores volume with width ≥5 nm (no more than 0.0014 sm3/g). It was shown, that the activated carbon based on carbonizat obtained at 400 °С demonstrates a maximal sorption capacity to a iodine and a methylene blue (1.57 g/g и 697.1 mg/g correspondingly), that in 1.4 and 2.7 times exceeds the dates of an industrial activated carbon for medical purposes.

Abstract:
A total of 13 Actinomycete strains were isolated from 70 soil samples collected from five locations across the Jeddah Province, while the other two locations located in Baljurashi province of Saudi Arabia. All 13 isolates were purified and subjected to enzymatic screening and antibacterial assays. The results indicated that two of these isolates (AC45 and AC69) produced both enzymes and exerted some antibacterial activity. Isolate AC45 produced more amylase and polygalacturonase (697.8 and 1498.59 units/ml, respectively) than isolate AC69; however, AC69 secreted more lipase than AC45 (6957 and 22127 unit/ml, respectively). Furthermore, both AC45 and AC69 exhibited good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Bacillus subtilis. The two isolates were identified using their 16S rRNA sequences, and the results suggest that isolate AC45 shares 99.71% similarity with Streptomyces lavenduligriseus and isolate AC69 shares 99% similarity with Streptomyces sp.

Abstract:
Purpose: To identify prognostic factors for the visual outcome for patients with macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). Methods: The medical records of 27 patients (27 eyes) with macula-off RRD were retrospectively investigated. In addition to clinical characteristics, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) images were analyzed. Results: The central foveal thickness at baseline was 923 ± 499.5 µm, and the mean height of the subretinal fluid was 697.8 ± 463.6 µm. Dropout of backreflection at the fovea was detected on preoperative SD OCT in 8 patients (29.6%). The external limiting membrane was disrupted in 5 patients (18.5%) as was the photoreceptor integrity in 9 patients (33.3%) at 12 months. On multiple regression analysis, backreflection integrity was the only predictive factor for postoperative visual outcome (B = 0.179, p = 0.020). Conclusions: Backreflection integrity on preoperative SD OCT seems to be helpful in predicting the postoperative visual outcome in macula-off RRD patients.

Abstract:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined as any condition that causes reduced kidney function over a period of time. Fibrosis, tubular atrophy and interstitial inflammation are the hallmark of pathological features in CKD. Regardless of initial insult, CKD has some common pathways leading CKD to end-stage kidney disease, including hypoxia in the tubulointerstitium and proteinuria. Recent advances in genome editing technologies and stem cell research give great insights to understand the pathogenesis of CKD, including identifications of the origins of renal myofibroblasts and tubular epithelial cells upon injury. Environmental factors such as hypoxia, oxidative stress, and epigenetic factors in relation to CKD are also discussed.

Abstract:
Introduction: We report a case of type I Arnold-Chiari malformation that is very peculiar because of its particular onset especially characterized by psychiatric symptoms. These symptoms were so prevailing that, for fifteen years, they masked the neurological aspects and the patient was treated with high doses of psychotropic drugs without any benefit. If the Arnold-Chiari malformation had been diagnosed before the development of severe hydro-syringomyelia, the patient could have underwent decompressive neurosurgery which may have improved her quality of life. It is worthwhile to highlight that psychotic symptoms may be caused by this congenital malformation, that typically has an aspecific onset. Therefore it’s important to consider an eventual organic etiology while challenging a resistant clinical picture with unusual presentation.Case description: A 51-year-old woman reported neurological symptoms consisting of headaches, blurred vision, diplopia, tinnitus, vertigo and psychiatric symptoms including obsessive ideas about the fear of killing her son, auditory and visual pseudo-hallucinations. The symptoms had developed suddenly at the age of 35 years and persisted thereafter. She underwent multiple hospitalizations in psychiatric units and was treated with a variety of psychopharmacological approaches without substantial improvement. We performed a brain MRI that identified a type I Arnold-Chiari malformation. We assessed psychiatric symptoms using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM IV Axis I Disorders, the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, and the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. A tailored psychopharmacological therapy led to a partial improvement in mood and anxiety but not in hallucinations.Discussion: We want to highlight how important is, in everyday psychiatric clinical practice, not to focus only on psychiatric aspects but consider the patient globally, because in this case psychiatric problems were the onset presentation of a rare neurological syndrome.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The response of mosquitoes to bushfire is poorly understood. During the 2019–20 summer, many regions of Australia were impacted by devastating bushfires. An area of estuarine and brackish-water wetlands alongside the Georges River, Sydney, New South Wales, was burned in January 2020. Mosquito populations within the area were monitored as part of the local authority's mosquito management program, providing a unique opportunity to record the response of key mosquitoes of pest and public health concern to bushfire. Ground pools within a tidally influenced swamp oak forest dominated by Casuarina glauca and associated wetlands dominated by Phragmites australis and Bolboschoenus spp. had been identified as suitable habitat for a range of mosquitoes, including Aedes alternans, Ae. vigilax, and Verrallina funerea. Surveys of immature stages of mosquitoes within recently burned habitats inundated by tides demonstrated that mosquito eggs survived the direct and indirect impacts of fire and immature stages successfully completed development as reflected in concomitant changes in adult mosquito populations following the bushfire. This unique observation has implications for mosquito management following bushfire in Australia and internationally.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Recent experiments suggest spatial repellents may significantly reduce biting pressure from host-seeking riceland mosquitoes, such as Anopheles quadrimaculatus, in a warm-humid open-field habitat. However, little is known regarding efficacy of these formulations in partially enclosed spaces where US military personnel may be sheltered or concealed in an operational environment. In this study we investigated the capability of 3 spatial repellents—metofluthrin, linalool, and d-cis/trans allethrin—to reduce mosquito incursion into small open-top enclosures of US military camouflage netting. We found that metofluthrin was more effective in partially enclosed spaces compared with the open field, whereas both linalool and d-cis/trans allethrin provided superior protection in the open. These findings support strategic selection of spatial repellents depending on the environment immediately surrounding the host.

Abstract:
Recommender Systems provide users with content or products they are interested in. The main purpose of Recommender Systems is to find, among the vast amount of information that is available or advertised on the Internet, content that meets the user’s needs i.e., a product or content that satisfies his or her wishes. These systems are being used more and more in many of the services of our daily lives. In this paper, a systematic mapping review that explores the use of Rec- ommender Systems in formal learning stages is presented. The paper analyzes what kinds of items the Recommender Systems suggest, who the users that receive the recommendations are, what kinds of information the Recommender Systems use to carry out the recommendation process, the algorithms and techniques the Recommender Systems employ and, finally, how the Recommender Systems have been evaluated. The results obtained in the review will make it possible to iden- tify not only the current situation in this field but also some of the challenges that are still to be faced.

Abstract:
Benefiting from ultra-high theoretical capacity, silicon (Si) is popular for use in energy storage fields as a Li–ion battery anode material because of its high-performance. However, a serious volume variation happens towards Si anodes in the lithiation/delithiation process, triggering the pulverization of Si and a fast decay in its capacity, which greatly limits its commercial application. In our study, a porous Si/Fe2O3 dual network anode was fabricated using the melt-spinning, ball-milling and dealloying method. The anode material shows good electrochemical performance, delivering a reversible capacity of 697.2 mAh g−1 at 200 mA g−1 after 100 cycles. The high Li storage property is ascribed to the rich mesoporous distribution of the dual network structure, which may adapt the volume variation of the material during the lithiation/delithiation process, shorten the Li–ion diffusion distance and improve the electron transport speed. This study offers a new idea for developing natural ferrosilicon ores into the porous Si-based materials and may prompt the development of natural ores in energy storage fields.

Abstract:
We sought to quantify early deaths following neonatal circumcision (same hospital admission) and to identify factors associated with such mortality. We performed a retrospective analysis of all infants who underwent circumcision in an inpatient hospital setting during the first 30 days of life from 2001 to 2010 using the National Inpatient Sample. Over 10 years, 200 early deaths were recorded among 9 833 110 subjects (1 death per 49 166 circumcisions). Note: this figure should not be interpreted as causal but correlational as it may include both undercounting and overcounting of deaths attributable to circumcision. Compared with survivors, subjects who died following newborn circumcision were more likely to have associated comorbid conditions, such as cardiac disease (odds ratio [OR] = 697.8 [378.5-1286.6]; P < .001), coagulopathy (OR = 159.6 [95.6-266.2]; P < .001), fluid and electrolyte disorders (OR = 68.2 [49.1-94.6]; P < .001), or pulmonary circulatory disorders (OR = 169.5 [69.7-412.5]; P < .001). Recognizing these factors could inform clinical and parental decisions, potentially reducing associated risks.

Abstract:
Medium chain esters produced from fruits and flowering plants have a number of commercial applications including use as flavour and fragrance ingredients, biofuels, and in pharmaceutical formulations. These esters are typically made via the activity of an alcohol acyl transferase (AAT) enzyme which catalyses the condensation of an alcohol and an acyl-CoA. Developing a microbial platform for medium chain ester production using AAT activity presents several obstacles, including the low product specificity of these enzymes for the desired ester and/or low endogenous substrate availability. In this study, we engineeredEscherichia colifor the production of butyl octanoate from endogenously produced octanoyl-CoA. This was achieved through rational protein engineering of an AAT enzyme fromActinidia chinensisfor improved octanoyl-CoA substrate specificity and metabolic engineering ofE. colifatty acid metabolism for increased endogenous octanoyl-CoA availability. This resulted in accumulation of 3.3 + 0.1 mg/L butyl octanoate as the sole product fromE. coliafter 48 h. This study represents a preliminary examination of the feasibility of developingE. coliplatforms for the synthesis single medium chain esters from endogenous fatty acids.
