Abstract:
Although GaN is one of the important electronic materials of this decade, thermodynamic data for this compound are not known with sufficient reliability. The limited information available is not internally consistent. Measured in this study are high-temperature heat capacities using a differential scanning calorimeter and Gibbs energies of formation employing a solid-state electrochemical technique. The solid-state cell was based on single-crystal CaF2 as the electrolyte and Ca3N2 as the auxiliary electrode to convert the nitrogen chemical potential established by the equilibrium between Ga and GaN into an equivalent fluorine potential. The heat capacity of GaN at ambient pressure can be represented by the equation: CoP / J mol−1 K−1 = 74.424 − 0.00106T + (46720/T2) − (685.9/T0.5), in the temperature range from 350 to 1075 K. The standard Gibbs energy of formation of GaN in the range from 875 to 1125 K can be expressed as: ΔfGo/ J mol−1 (±465) = −128,749 + 115.029 T. This corresponds to a decomposition temperature of 1119 ± 4 K for GaN in pure nitrogen at standard pressure. On the basis of these new measurements and a critical assessment of information that is available in the literature, a refined set of data for GaN in the temperature range from 298.15 to 1400 K is presented.

Abstract:
Factors controlling the spatial distribution and temporal trend of groundwater quality at a national scale are important to investigate for sustaining livelihood and ecological balance. This study evaluated groundwater quality data for 12 parameters (n = 6405 for each parameter), collected from 97 groundwater monitoring stations (=289 monitoring wells) for ten years. Spatial distribution of groundwater quality parameters varied through the regional scale. Six parameters: T, EC, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3−, and Cl− were having dominant increasing trend, remaining pH, Eh, Na+, K+, SO42−, and NO3− showed a dominant decreasing trend over time. Among land use types, the upland fields had the highest mean of groundwater NO3− (22.2 mg/L), confirming plenty of application of fertilizers (5–10 kg/a more than standard) to upland fields. Means of groundwater Cl− and Na+ (705.3 and 298.4 mg/L, respectively) in the residential areas are greater than those in other land use types by 408–685.9, 154.3–274.2 mg/L, respectively. Agricultural activities were the main controlling factor of groundwater NO3− contamination in rural areas, domestic activities were responsible for groundwater Cl− and Na+ in urban areas, and seawater intrusion was controlling groundwater Cl− in coastal areas (within 10 km from sea). Groundwater hydrochemistry was controlled by the mechanism of geogenic rock and evaporation dominance. The rock dominance mechanism indicated that groundwater was interacting with rocks and resulted in groundwater chemistry. The findings of this study showed that groundwater was mainly contaminated by anthropogenic factors in some rural and residential areas. Effective measures by government authorities are needed to improve the groundwater quality.

Abstract:
AbstractMaletoyvayamite, Au3Se4Te6, is a new mineral discovered in a heavy-mineral concentrate from the Gaching occurrence of the Maletoyvayam deposit, Kamchatka, Russia (60°19′51.87″N, 164°46′25.65″E). It forms anhedral grains (10 to 50 μm in size) and is found in intergrowths with native gold (Au–Ag), Au tellurides (calaverite), unnamed phases (AuSe, Au2TeSe and Au oxide), native tellurium, sulfosalts (tennantite, tetrahedrite, goldfieldite and watanabeite) and supergene tripuhyite. Maletoyvayamite has a good cleavage on {010} and {001}. In plane-polarised light, maletoyvayamite is grey, has strong bireflectance (grey to bluish grey), and strong anisotropy; it exhibits no internal reflections. Reflectance values for maletoyvayamite in air (Rmin,Rmax in %) are: 38.9, 39.1 at 470 nm; 39.3, 39.5 at 546 nm; 39.3, 39.6 at 589 nm; and 39.4, 39.7 at 650 nm. Sixteen electron-microprobe analyses of maletoyvayamite gave an average composition: Au 34.46, Se 16.76, Te 47.23 and S 0.84, total 99.29 wt.%, corresponding to the formula Au2.90(Se3.52S0.44)Σ3.96Te6.14 based on 13 atoms; the average of eleven analyses on synthetic analogue is: Au 34.20, Se 19.68 and Te 45.42, total 99.30 wt.%, corresponding to Au2.90Se4.16Te5.94. The calculated density is 7.98 g/cm3. The mineral is triclinic, space group P1, with a = 8.901(2), b = 9.0451(14), c = 9.265(4) Å, α = 97.66(3), β = 106.70(2), γ = 101.399(14)°, V = 685.9(4) Å3 and Z = 2. The crystal structure of maletoyvayamite represents a unique structure type resembling a molecular structure. There are cube-like [Au6Se8Te12] clusters linked via van der Waals interactions. The structural identity of maletoyvayamite with the synthetic Au3Se4Te6 was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy.

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the mechanism underlying systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-related bone loss by evaluating the bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markers (BTMs) in premenopausal patients with new-onset SLE without any treatment. Methods BMD and BTMs of 106 premenopausal patients with new-onset SLE and 64 gender-, age- and body mass index (BMI)-matched healthy controls were analyzed. BMD was determined using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Serum BTMs were measured. Results Hip and lumbar spine BMD in premenopausal patients with new-onset SLE was significantly decreased compared with healthy controls. Higher rate of osteoporosis was observed in new-onset SLE patients (25% vs. 1%). Moreover, uncoupled bone remodeling evidenced by an increase in bone resorption marker β-CTX (685.9 ± 709.6 pg/mL vs. 395.4 ± 326.0 pg/mL, P < 0.05) and decrease in bone formation markers PINP (37.4 ± 33.0 ng/mL vs. 46.1 ± 20.9 ng/mL, P < 0.05) and OC (11.4 ± 9.8 ng/mL vs. 18.2 ± 8.6 ng/mL, P < 0.05) was observed in premenopausal patients with new-onset SLE compared with healthy controls. Univariate correlation analyses showed negative correlations between OC and SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI), and positive correlations between β-CTX and SLEDAI. SLE patients positive for dsDNA, nucleosome showed lower OC and higher β-CTX. Conclusion Premenopausal patients with new-onset SLE had decreased BMD and abnormal bone metabolism with increased β-CTX and decreased OC and P1NP levels, indicating uncoupled bone remodeling in new-onset SLE patients. Disease activity and abnormal immunity, especially the amount of antibodies in SLE patients, were strongly associated with abnormality of bone metabolism.

AbstractA novel heptacoordinated thiosemicarbazonato lead(II) complex [Pb(4ML)(SCN)] (4ML = 2-Acetylpyridine-4N-methylthiosemicarbazonato) was synthesized and characterized by conventional methods (IR and elemental analysis) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. [Pb(4ML)(SCN)] shows an unusual polymeric structure in which the lead atom is hexa-coordinate, the deprotonated thiosemicarbazone both chelates and bridges, and the thiocyanate group acts as bridge between lead(II)-thiosemicarbazonate fragments. There is hydrogen-bonding between the polymeric chains.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine if repeated sterilization has deleterious effects on the clinical stability of mini-screws. Materials and Methods: Thirty each of the following mini-screws were tested: Aarhus (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, Wisc), VectorTAS (Ormco Corporation, Orange, Calif), Dual-Top (RMO, Denver, Colo), and Ortho Anchor (KLS Martin, Jacksonville, Fla). Controls were sterilized once using a steam autoclave (Statim 5000, SciCan USA, Canonsburg, Pa). Each group of mini-screws was divided into three groups: the control (n = 10) and two test groups (n = 10, each). Test groups were cycled five and 10 times respectively. All screws were inserted into custom-designed synthetic blocks that simulated mandibular bone. Maximum insertion torque and lateral displacement force data were recorded and subjected to statistical testing. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and three-way mixed ANOVA were used for statistical analyses for maximum insertion torque data and lateral displacement force data, respectively. Level of significance was established at P < .05. Results: Insertion torque values displayed significant differences between both of the groups and sterilization cycles (P < .05). Significant differences were observed between American Aarhus mini-screws and both RMO and KLS Martin mini-screws. Ormco Vector mini-screws also differed significantly from the KLS Martin mini-screws in this comparison (P < .05). For lateral displacement, there was a significant main effect of groups, F(1,36) = 14.5 (P < .05). Significant differences were observed between American Aarhus mini-screws and all three of the other groups (P < .05). Conclusions: The examined groups displayed statistical differences of variable quality that may not affect their clinical stability.

Abstract:
Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are the next generation of engineered systems into which computing, communication, and control technologies are now being closely integrated. They play an increasingly important role in critical infrastructures, governments and everyday life. Security is crucial in CPS, but they were not, unfortunately, initially conceived as a secure environment, and if these security issues are to be incorporated, then security must be considered from the very beginning of the system design. One way in which to solve this problem is by having a global perspective, which can be achieved by employing a Reference Architecture (RA), since it is a high-level abstraction of a system that could be useful in the implementation of complex systems. It is widely accepted that adding elements in order to address many security factors (integrity, confidentiality, availability, etc.) and facilitate the definition of the security requirements of a Security Reference Architecture (SRA) is a good starting point when attempting to solve these kinds of cybersecurity problems and protect the system from the beginning of the development. An SRA makes it possible to define the key elements of a specific environment, thus allowing a better understanding of the inherent elements of the environments, while promoting the integration of security aspects and mechanisms. The present paper, therefore, presents the definition of an SRA for CPS by using UML models in an attempt to facilitate secure CPS implementations.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Large-scale ecological variations across Earth have important consequences for biodiversity and, therefore, forbiological conservation. Despite the widespread use of ecological maps in conservation schemes, they have been based mainly on structural and compositional features but scarcely on functional dimensions of life. Incorporating functional variables complements and improves the descriptions of regionalizations and offers a new understanding of biodiversity patterns. The development of remote sensing measurement allows for the description of the functional patterns of ecosystems through Ecosystem Functional Types (EFTs), opening new opportunities to analyze the geography of life. This article aims to examine the relationships between ecological regionalization based on components and structure and patterns of ecosystem functioning. As proof of case, we chose the Baja California peninsula, whose singularity has generated a rich variety of ecological and biogeographical interpretations, mainly based on ecosystem components and structure. We hypothesize that patterns in ecosystem functioning reflect ecoregionalization based on composition and structure features. We identified Ecosystem Functional Types (EFTs), from three descriptors of the seasonal curves of MODIS Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) from 2001 to 2017. We characterized each ecoregion in terms of ecosystem functioning and we carried out a correspondence analysis between the EFTs classification and the ecoregions. At a large scale, EFTs showed a pattern with three general regions from northwest to south, capturing the north-south transition of climatic regimes shown in the ecoregions map, from the northwestern Mediterranean area to the southern tropical zone, with a desert transition area between them. However, differences between the functional characterization and some ecoregions were detected in ecoregions identified as discrepancy areas between authors. In particular, some ecoregions considered Mediterranean showed a Desert character in its functioning, and others considered as Desert were Tropical functionally. EFTs remotely sensed measured at regional scales provide the basis for a more comprehensive regionalization of geographical patterns of life and, therefore, an improvement for future conservation purposes.

Abstract:
Kaolinite is an essential mineral with numerous applications across many sectors. One of them is in the agricultural industry, in which it is a crucial component in the method of controlled-release fertilizer. This manuscript reports the use of different functionals and basis sets on the structural and electronic properties of kaolinite's surface, intending to find reliable methods among those tested. Four different functionals, B3LYP, CAM-B3LYP, M06-2X, TPSSTPSS, complemented with various basis sets, were used in this study. The results show that TPSSTPSS complement with 6-311G** provides good agreement with previous research and experimental results among different functionals and basis sets used. The quantitative analysis was done to optimize the kaolinite molecule. Selected extrema points were used to place the urea molecule for the interaction of urea-kaolinite studies. The urea's interaction with kaolinite was reported at a different interaction site in the gas phase and different orientations of the urea molecule. Urea molecule was optimized above the Al–O and Si–O surfaces with their energy difference calculated. Our results showed that both surfaces act as promising adsorbents among the different orientations of the urea on both the Al–O and Si–O surfaces. However, Al–O, and Si–O had another preferable interaction site to the urea molecules.

Abstract:
Ebony (Diospyros celebica Bakh) is an endemic forest tree species found in Sulawesi whose basic information on its metabolite profile is still lacking. The objective of this research was to separate and identify putatively metabolite present in the leaves and wood of ebony across Sulawesi. Separation and identification of ebony metabolites were carried out using UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS analysis. Using ultrasonication with ethanol as the extracting solvent, we used powdered ebony leaves and wood. The results showed that the metabolites contained in the leaves and wood of ebony were 59 metabolites. About 14 compounds were found in the leaves and wood, 21 compounds in the wood, and 24 compounds in the leaves. The identified metabolites are flavonoids, terpenoids, amino aldehydes, alkaloids, quinones, steroids, amino acids, fatty acids, and saccharides. Clustering of ebony using principal component analysis obtained leaves and wood groups using peak area of known compounds as the variable.

Abstract:
The hexagonal scandium compounds ScAuSi (P6̄m2, a = 421.7(1), c = 680.7(1) pm) and ScAuGe (P63mc, a = 431.03(9), c = 685.5(1) pm) were synthesized in X-ray pure form via arc-melting of the elements. The structures are derived from the AlB2-type. The gold and silicon (germanium) atoms build up strongly puckered layers of Au3Si3 and Au3Ge3 hexagons. Due to a different puckering pattern and stacking sequence of the hexagons, the ScAuGe structure has one and the ScAuSi structure two crystallographically independent scandium sites, which can be unambiguously distinguished on the basis of 45Sc-29Si magnetic dipole-dipole interactions measured in a site selective fashion on an isotopically enriched material by solid state NMR.

Abstract:
Abstract By reaction of zinc chloride and zinc bromide with hexamethylenetetramine in water/methanol crystals of the adducts ZnCl2 • C6H12N4 and ZnBr2 • C6H12N4, resp. were obtained. The compounds are isotypic, they crystallize in the orthorhombic space group P21am (non-standard setting of space group Pmc21, No. 26), Z = 2. The lattice parameters of the zinc chloride adduct are a = 1168.0(4), b = 685.7(4), and c = 601.1(4) pm, of the zinc bromide adduct a - 1188.9(6), b = 721.5(5), and c = 602.3(4) pm. The adducts are polymeric, they form parallel chains in the crystal. The zinc atoms are bonded to two halogen atoms and, via nitrogen atoms, to two hexamethylenetetramine molecules, which act as bidentate ligands. The coordination of the zinc atoms is approximately tetrahedral

Abstract:
Isoflavan equol has recently been assessed in human nutrition as a potent estrogen with various health benefits. It is produced by intestinal microflora from isoflavones (IF) formononetin and daidzein. These dietary precursors are present particularly in soy products. However, only 20–35% of the Western adult population is capable of producing equol from the ingested IF. Cow’s milk was proved to be an important source of equol produced from the IF in the rumen and intestines. Among forages, red clover (Trifolium pratense) is by far the most important source of both the IF. Their contents in fresh red clover forage are affected by variety and by several environmental factors. Leaves have the highest IF contents. Available data on changes in IF contents during wilting, drying, and ensiling are ambiguous. Content of equol in milk produced by dairy cows fed fresh or ensiled red clover can be at the level of several hundreds μg per litre.

The short of the first twenty years of VI century of Byzantium's history when political changes in Constantinople took place was described in the article The religious motives. The leader of the rebellion indicated two aspects of his pronouncement as the most important ones. They were restoration of the religious union on the East based on resolutions of The Chalcedonian Council and recognition of the leading role of The Apostolic See in the field of guarding religious authenticity. Despite the military defeat Vitalianus' revolt ended with success on the religious field.

Abstract:
The pyometra is a disease that affects middle age and elderly female dogs during diestrus. Hormonal, microbiological, biochemical and hematological aspects are well described. However, few studies have evaluated the role of each in the prognosis of canine pyometra. The aim of this study was to identify markers associated with clinical worsening of dogs with pyometra. We prospectively evaluated 80 dogs with pyometra treated surgically. Group 1 consisted of dogs that were discharged within 48 hours after surgery and Group 2 consisted of those who required prolonged hospitalization or died. The findings of hematological, biochemical and blood lactate levels were compared between groups and variables such as bacterial multidrug resistance, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), hyperlactatemia and increased creatinine were analyzed through the dispersion of frequencies between groups. Among the variables studied, the presence of SIRS and elevated serum creatinine >2.5mg/mL were effective in predicting the worsening of the disease and can be used as prognostic markers of canine pyometra.
