El objetivo fue: Describir las características de la fiesta tradicional del Tuken Shawi en los estudiantes de la Institución Educativa N°62212 del Centro Poblado de Sabaloyacu. Provincia de Alto Amazonas. La investigación por su tipo fue no experimental, por su nivel, descriptiva, por su finalidad fue básica, el diseño fue descriptivo simple, tuvo una población de 37 estudiantes y la muestra fue de 16 estudiantes del nivel primario de la Institución Educativa N°62212 del Centro Poblado de Sabaloyacu, el muestreo estadístico, aleatoria simple. se usó la técnica de observación y como instrumento la guía de observación. La conclusión fue que la característica del tradicional tuken Shawi, es una festividad que inicia el último domingo del mes de febrero, los pobladores danzan alrededor de un árbol (humisha), cuyos pasos imitan, principalmente a las aves y monos, mientras beben: wena, shi´shui, Mamai´ y Cayawi´ii; amenizado con instrumentos como: la yupana, tuntún, kunkun pinante, los organizadores son: el tuken wa´anen, Tuken wa´anen, (mayordomo) Waan apu (líder de la comunidad) el teniente alcalde y agente municipal con apoyo de todos los moradores del lugar.

Abstract:
A low-power, monochromatic, tunable diode laser is used to selectively populate the cesium 62P3/2 (Fe = 2, 3, 4, 5) hyperfine-structure levels in a pure optically thick vapour in the presence of a dissipative surface. The integrated retrofluorescence intensities for the 852 nm (62P3/2 → 62S1/2), 894 nm (62P1/2 → 62S1/2)> and 455 nm (72P3/2 → 62S1/2) lines have been measured and analyzed. When the laser frequency is scanned through the [62S1/2(Fg) → 62P3/2(Fe)] hyperfine resonance line, the sensitized retrofluorescence spectral signal corresponding to the 894 nm line has a profile significantly different from the retrofluorescence signal at the 852 nm line, but rather similar to the profiles of the lines associated with the energy-pooling collisions. The population of the 62P1/2 atomic level in an optically thick vapour cannot be explained only by the fine-structure excitation transfer process [Cs (62P3/2) + Cs (62S1/2) ↔ Cs (62P1/2) + Cs (62S1/2)] usually accepted in an optically thin vapour. We have investigated inelastic collisions in the populating mechanisms of 62P1/2 level starting from the 62P3/2 level exited by the monochromatic laser taking into account the presence of an electrically conductive surface. It appears from our experimental and theoretical investigations that, the spectral properties of the laser-induced Cs 894 nm sensitized retrofluorescence in a pure optically thick vapour near a dissipative surface cannot be explained by both the conventional mechanism and cascade collisions. Abstract:
Cette thèse porte sur l'utilisation de méthodes de post-traitement statistiques dans le but d'améliorer les prévisions d'ensemble. Les prévisions d'ensemble sont des prévisions composées de différents membres dont la diversité tente de capturer l'incertitude liée à la prédiction. Les prévisions d'ensemble souffrent de biais et de sous-dispersion et un post-traitement est donc nécessaire afin d'améliorer leur performance. D'un point de vue théorique, cette thèse apporte des résultats sur le taux de convergence en régression distributionnelle en termes de continuous ranked probability score. De nombreuses méthodes de post-traitement statistiques établies tombent dans le cadre théorique de ce résultat. Par ailleurs, dans le cadre de la collaboration avec Météo-France, une méthode de post-traitement statistique basée sur un réseau de neurones U-Net a été développée afin de remédier aux limitations des méthodes utilisées opérationnellement lors de l'utilisation de données sous forme de grille. Cette thèse propose également la construction de scoring rules propres basées sur l'agrégation et la transformation afin de faciliter la vérification de prévisions probabilistes dans le cas multivarié.En parallèle de la thématique principale de cette thèse, des travaux portant sur la convergence universelle en régression distributionnelle et sur l'utilisation de méthodes de régression distributionnelle pour prédire le risque de récurrence de cancer du sein ont été conduits
This thesis focuses on the use of statistical postprocessing methods to improve ensemble forecasts. Ensemble forecasts are composed of different members whose diversity attempts to capture forecast uncertainties. Ensemble forecasts suffer from bias and underdispersion, and postprocessing is therefore necessary to improve their performance. From a theoretical point of view, this thesis provides rates of convergence for distributional regression in terms of continuous ranked probability score. Numerous well-established statistical post-processing methods fall within the theoretical framework of this result. Furthermore, in collaboration with Météo-France, a statistical postprocessing method based on a U-Net neural network has been developed to overcome the limitations of the methods used operationally when using gridded data. This thesis also proposes the construction of proper scoring rules based on aggregation and transformation to facilitate the verification of probabilistic forecasts in multivariate settings.In parallel with the main theme of this thesis, work has been carried out on universal convergence in distributional regression and on the use of distributional regression methods to predict breast cancer recurrence risk

Abstract:
Hypothalamic tanycytes are a specialised type of glial cell found lining the 3rd ventricle. They possess a cell body that contacts the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and a single long process that projects into the hypothalamic parenchyma, some of which are known to extend into the Arcuate nucleus (ARC) and Ventromedial nucleus (VMN), two key hypothalamic regions involved in control of energy homeostasis. Owing to their unique position, it has been hypothesised that hypothalamic tanycytes may be able to detect nutrient related signals in the CSF and influence the neurons of the ARC and VMN leading to changes in food intake and body weight. Tanycytes have recently been shown to be glucosensitive, responding to brief application of glucose by generating Ca2+ waves. However the signalling pathways inducing this response remain elusive. Here we investigated the nature of tanycyte glucosensing. Using Ca2+ imaging techniques we show that tanycytes can respond to glucose and non-nutritive sweeteners implicating the sweet taste receptor as the mediator of tanycyte glucosensitivity. We further show that activation of the sweet taste receptor induces release of ATP from tanycytes via pannexin hemichannels allowing propagation of the Ca2+wave. In addition we also investigated whether hypothalamic tanycytes can communicate to secondary cells within the hypothalamus. Using multiphoton stimulation of a single tanycyte, we show that Ca2+ waves can be generated, which spread between neighbouring cells as well as along the tanycyte process towards the hypothalamic parenchyma. We also demonstrate signalling in secondary cells following tanycyte stimulation is likely the result of tanycyte communication. Thus hypothalamic tanycytes are able to detect sweet tasting compounds in the CSF via the sweet taste receptor, this induces Ca2+ signalling which may be communicated to secondary cells, including the neurons of the ARC and VMN, where it may be integrated to induce changes in energy homeostasis.

Abstract:
The design and proper operation on the above-ground drainage systems can be challenging in a densely populated city like Hong Kong. Discharge loading imposed to a single vertical stack can be large enough that those systems without a proper design, installation or maintenance would suffer problems such as backflow of foul water, contaminated foul air, or even soil waste to the sanitary fitments at lower floors. Any of these nuisances can be regarded as failure because the soil and waste water cannot be properly disposed away from a building. The risk of such a failure would be higher in densely occupied tall buildings. SARS outbreak in 2003 revealed that the consequence of failing to properly manage the drainage system can be as serious as a fatal disaster. The contaminated aerosols, with water droplets with the microorganisms are fatal to human like the SARS virus since it will flow back to the living environment. This research aims at proposing advanced design and monitoring practices upon the drainage system and its components, to minimize the risk of failure and nuisances occurrence. A brief review on several types of failure will be gone through. Besides, a simulation model has been established to predict the air pressure in drainage system. The result will be compared with those from real 1:1 test-rig experiments. This assists the development of innovative inventions of system components such as 8S twin drainage stack which is designed to self-balance air pressure generated by falling water discharge in drainage stack. It ensures better protection of water seal in traps. Smart trap is available to enlarge retention time of water seal due to evaporation. Regarding the management of existing installed drainage system, a protocol has been proposed to troubleshoot the nuisances. It includes remote-control air pressure monitoring and statistical analysis with the development of probability density functions to decide future remedial engineering measures. All of these are integrated as a risk management model aimed to reduce the risk of occurrence of the nuisances.

Abstract:
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) including carbon and nitrogen (DOC and DON) are important but poorly understood components of the marine biogeochemical cycle. In this study, the distribution and cycling of DOC and DON, and particulate organic carbon and nitrogen (POC and PON) were investigated in North Sea surface and bottom water during the stratified summer season in 2011 and 2012, along with other key biogeochemical parameters such as nutrients. The summer DOC, DON, POC and PON ranged from 32.7-134.5, 2.8-13.7, 1.1-43.8 and 0.3-5.9 μM, respectively. The well-mixed water of the southern North Sea was also surveyed in the winter of 2011; measured concentration of DOC and DON were 56.2-224.8 and 3.7-12.3 μM. In summer, DOM and POM generally exhibited high levels in the southern well-mixed water (SM), whereas inorganic nutrient concentrations were higher in the northern bottom water (NB) due to nutrient regeneration and offshore water inflow. DOM in summer and inorganic nutrients in winter were also clearly influenced by riverine inputs. DON was the dominant nitrogen fraction of northern surface water and SM in summer, while in NB, TOxN (nitrate + nitrite) was the dominant fraction. Analysis of SmartBuoy samples show phytoplankton provided a net source of DOM over the spring bloom period with net degradation in autumn and winter. Incubation experiments on water collected from two North Sea sites in autumn, winter 2013 and spring 2014 showed no nutrient (N and P) limitation on DOM degradation. The experiments yield mean bacterial decay rate constants (for three seasons) at the two sites of 4 ± 8 and 2 ± 3 %d-1 kDOC and 3 ± 4 and 4 ± 4 %d-1 kDON, under dark conditions. In comparison to the Redfield ratio, the bulk C:N molar ratio is enriched in carbon relative to nitrogen, while the slope C:N ratio is close to the Redfield ratio, but with a background of high C:N material.

Abstract:
This research explores the value of analytic autoethnography to develop the lecturer’s use of self when teaching mental health nursing. Sharing the lecturer’s selfunderstanding developed through analytic reflexivity focused on their autoethnographic narrative offers a pedagogical approach to contribute to the nursing profession’s policy drive to increase the use of reflective practices. The research design required me to develop my own analytic autoethnography. Four themes emerged from the data ‘Being in between’, ‘Perceived vulnerability of self’, ‘Knowing and doing’, and ‘Uniting selves’. A methodological analysis of the processes involved in undertaking my analytic autoethnography raised issues pertaining to the timing and health warnings of exploring memory as data. Actor-Network Theory was used as an evaluative framework to reposition the research findings back into relationships which support educational practices. The conclusion supports the use of analytic autoethnography to enable lecturers to share hidden practices which underpin the use of self within professional identities. Recommendations seek methodological literature which makes explicit possible emotional reactions to the reconstruction of self through analysis of memories. Being able to share narratives offers a pedagogical approach based on the dilemmas and tensions of being human, bridging the humanity between service user, student and lecturer.

Abstract:
Cyprus’ accession into the Eurozone has been a cornerstone on the modern history of the island. The research project is concentrating on the effect that Cyprus’ participation in the Euro Area will have on the banking and financial institutions. The new Euro Area environment is characterized by “price stability” and that is achieved through an interest rate mechanism set by the European Central Bank. The interest rate levels however, are not disbursed uniformly within each member state. It was identified quite early in the research project that a number of factors are affecting the depositors and borrowers characteristics. Factors such as risk exposure, disposable income, alternative financing sources, average firm size, banking market concentration, asset and liability structure differ from one member state to another. For a banking institution, these particular factors, are enough to deviate from the interest rate benchmark that the European Central Bank is setting, in order to operate efficiently and profitable within each member state’s economic characteristics. The research project was concentrated on the level of the interest rates that exist between the different deposit and loan type products in the Cypriot economy and in the Euro Area. Involving case description general analytic strategies, results were produced from the description of the Euro Area and Cypriot economies, the Euro Area MFIs against Cypriot banks and also at the end the Creek banks against the Cypriot banks. It was proved that during this transition period, there exists disequilibrium on the level of the interest rates between the Cypriot banks, the Euro Area MFIs and the Greek banks. It is also proved that these differences on the level of the interest rates are in favour of the Cypriot banks.

In Sri Lanka, two thirds of the land mass lies within the Dry Zone where agriculture is the most important economic activity. In this climatic zone, rainfall is highly uncertain, seasonal, and limited to a few months. Consequently, the farmers in the area have to face drought as a natural hazard. This study focusses on how the farmers in the southern Dry Zone of Sri Lanka perceive drought as a hazard, the adjustments they make to reduce their vulnerability to droughts and how human behaviour affects the growing hazardousness of the study area. The results of this study show that the farmers in the study area have perceived drought as one of their major problems, and that the vulnerability to this natural phenomenon is growing as a result of the power abuse and environmental mismanagement of those high ranking people responsible. However, the farmers’ deeper understanding regarding their living environment (natural and man-made) has enhanced their power to combat the hazardous effects of droughts by way of a variety of adjustments. Considering and studying the above problems and issues the researcher has come to some conclusions and has put forward some suggestions, the most important of which, lie with changing the self-centered attitudes and activities of the powerful people in the direction of a socially and environmentally more sustainable and wholesome path.

Abstract:
Aims. This thesis aimed to investigate the relationships between social problem-solving, defeat, entrapment and other cognitive risk factors (rumination, goal adjustment) for suicidal ideation and behaviour. The investigation was carried out using the framework of the Integrated Motivational-Volitional Model of Suicidal Behaviour (IMV; O’Connor, 2011) and this thesis aimed to test aspects of this theoretical model. In addition, this thesis also aimed to critically evaluate the measures of social problem-solving employed in suicide research. Method. Five empirical studies across five chapters were conducted. In order to achieve the study’s aims, a systematic review was conducted first which informed the selection of the social problem-solving measures employed within the thesis (Chapter 3). The review also identified the need to update the original Means End Problem-Solving task (MEPS; Platt and Spivack, 1975). A series of focus groups were conducted to revise and update the measure (Chapter 6), two studies were then conducted to test the revised measure (MEPS-R; Chapter 7). A further two studies investigated the relationship between social problem-solving and suicidal ideation and behaviour. The first empirical study was prospective (Chapter 5) and the second was experimental in design (Chapter 8). All studies employed both student and general population samples. Results. The Social Problem-Solving Inventory (SPSI-R; D’Zurilla, et al, 2002) and the MEPS were identified as the most common measures employed in suicide research (Chapter 3). The SPSI-R was employed in all studies and the original MEPS was revised and tested. The MEPS-R was found to be a reliable measure, both inter-rater and internal consistency were good although the MEPS-R scores did not correlate with established risk factors of psychological distress (Chapter 7). However, in the experimental study the MEPS-R was found to correlate with psychological distress (Chapter 8). Dysfunctional social problem-solving was found to be the most pernicious of the SPSI-R subscales and individuals who reported a history of self-harm were found to score higher in dysfunctional problem-solving than individuals who reported no history of self-harm (Chapter 5 and 8). Dysfunctional social problem-solving was found to mediated the defeat-entrapment relationship and rational problem-solving moderate this relationship. Defeat had no discernible impact on social problem-solving performance (Chapter 8). Conclusion. This research makes a novel contribution to the understanding of the relationships between social problem-solving, defeat, entrapment, rumination, goal adjustment and suicidal ideation/behaviour. It also highlights the importance of the dysfunctional aspect of social problem-solving. The IMV model was a useful framework for understanding these relationships. In addition, the revised MEPS (MEPS-R) is a reliable measure of social problem-solving, which is more applicable for use in today’s society but it requires further testing, especially in clinical populations.

Zuvor werden die im Deutschen vorhandenen Füllpartikelformen beobachtet und quantifiziert. Damit füllt die Arbeit eine Lücke in der Beschreibung und Erklärung von Füllpartikeln im Deutschen – bis heute gibt es keine genaue Vorstellung, welches phonetische Material als Füllpartikel zu bewerten ist und in welchem Ausmaß diese Formen durch ihren Kontext bedingt werden.

Abstract:
Space conditioning energy needs are strongly affected by occupant behavior. Generally, simulations ignore the behavior of the occupants in estimating the energy needed for heating and cooling. During winter heating, it is reasonable to assume that the electricity associated with appliances contributes to the space heating needs. This paper describes the monitoring of energy used for space heating over a 15 year period. The data suggest that estimates of energy savings can be based upon envelope thermal resistance for moderate occupant behavior. For these occupants space heating is well characterized by the daily average difference between house average space temperature and outside air temperature. Characterizing in terms of indoor temperature, outdoor air temperature, wind speed, and insolation gives a slightly better representation but requires more information than is usually available. However, vigorous conservation tactics can lead to substantially different energy needs and no correlation could be established when aggressive conservation made use of thermostat setback at every opportunity.

Abstract:
This paper describes micro-mechanical fastener designs used to create joints between surface micromachined micro-parts. This is part of ongoing research to develop a general microassembly system capable of assembling various types of microstructures. The microassembly system is based on sequential robotic operations and the use of a microgripper. Two new joint designs referred to as ‘key-lock’ joints and ‘inter-lock’ joints are introduced. Key-lock joints are created by the insertion of a ‘key’ on one micro-part, into a mating slot on another micro-part. By translating the first micro-part within the other, after the key is inserted, it becomes locked into position. Inter-lock joints are created by the perpendicular insertion of one micro-part with a slit, into another micro-part with a slit. The slits create an interference fit and are permanent once the micro-parts are joined. The design of these joints and the experimental results are detailed. In addition, ongoing work involving recent ‘snap-lock’ joint fastener designs is described. This includes an example of a 3D micro-transformer and a stacked microstructure. These various micro-mechanical fasteners demonstrate a number of ways in which micro-parts can be assembled into 3D microstructures.

This paper explores the applicability of the most recently developed methods in functional modeling to Design for Six Sigma transfer function development and requirements flowdown. An example created during a collaborative research project between the General Motors R&D Center and the University of Missouri – Rolla is used to demonstrate the benefits of using standardized functional modeling during conceptual design. The proposed standard for creating the functional models is the Functional Basis. The Functional Basis is a list of function and flow terms that can be used to describe electro-mechanical systems. The example presented in this paper is based on the parking brake system of a passenger car. Module heuristics, function-based rules for partitioning systems, were used to define the sub-systems during the requirements flowdown example. The functional modeling techniques used in this example provide a standard method of capturing current engineering design knowledge while allowing additional knowledge to be discovered.

The paper presents correlation development for an experimental database done on R-407C flow in meso-scale horizontal channels. Single-phase, two-phase subcooled, and two-phase saturated boiling flow correlations were developed. The variables considered in this study including essential design parameters, such as, channel diameter, coils pitch and diameter. For flow variables considered are the Reynolds number and the Prandtl number. The purpose of this study is to present new design correlations for flow boiling in a ternary refrigerant mixture at a meso-scale size. The relative influences of enhancement design parameters on friction factor and heat transfer were carried in this parametric analysis of the flow boiling correlations. The resulted correlations developed in this study are compared to available published correlations.

The need for low profile, sustainable thermal management solutions is becoming a critical need in electronics from consumer products to server cabinets. This work presents a FINLESS thermal management solution that utilises fluidic structures generated within it to enhance the heat transfer performance. The FINLESS thermal management solution can be manufactured to have a height of ∼5mm or even less when using low profile motors. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) combined with Infra-Red (IR) imaging techniques are used to explain the underlying flow physics that results in increased heat transfer rates compared to typical laminar flows. It is found that the local heat transfer coefficients in the finless design are up to 300% greater than those achieved at the same Reynolds number using conventional boundary layer theory. The additional benefits in terms of sustainability of the approach are also highlighted.

Abstract:
The Pulse Tube cryocooler is a relatively new device with a promising future in space grade cryogenics. Unlike many active cryocoolers, the pulse tube is a regenerative type cooler with no cold end moving parts. The lack of cold end moving parts permits it to be used in application with mechanically sensitive or high fidelity components. The pulse tube currently lacks adequate scientific literature and understandings that other space qualified cryocoolers have. A systematic approach to understand, model, and study is provided in this work. Further, the importance of a standardized convention of the dynamically complex pulse tube is elucidated to clarify conflicting accounts found in literature. Flow solutions of the pulse tube demands great conceptual understanding and are carried out though numerical simulation. A 2-D pulse tube is modeled in detail assuming axisymmetric conditions. It is found that flow initialization periods are substantially long in comparison to cycle time due to the great inertial resistance found in pulse tubes along with the large volume associated to the reservoir. During this period, the pulse tube section temperature profile is found to significantly rise prior to a refrigeration permitting profile. It is also found that porous medium (inertial) resistance coefficients can be utilized to sufficiently model long spans of inertance tubing without the need for increased computationally-demanding mesh size.

Similar to electrical probing of semiconductor chips, mechanical probing of MEMS chips (especially containing moving elements) is essential to verify their functionality before packaging. The functionality may include as simple as verification of release of the device from substrate or more sophisticated force vs displacement performance characterization. In this paper we develop a novel mechanical probing station based on the parallelogram flexure mechanism with a magnetic coil as an actuator for probing. We propose a design which allows application of forces in two directions. The proposed design is realized in practice using mechanical and electronic modifications in a standard CD ROM head. The mechanical probe station is calibrated for applied voltage vs force. Successful probing of micro-flexural NOT gate and pneumatic actuator, fabricated by SOIMUMPs process, is demonstrated.

Abstract Properly designed drilling fluid is a key element in achieving safe and effective drilling operations. Rheological parameters of drilling fluid determine the equivalent circulation density, the pump pressure, and hole cleaning efficiency. Also, they have a significant role in predicting the stability of drilling fluid under static and low shear rates. The chemical composition of the drilling fluid controls the rheological parameters. Recently, studies have shown that a small concentration of nanosized materials in the drilling fluid can substantially impact the rheological parameters of the drilling fluids. In this study, various nanoparticles (NPs) with different shapes, sizes, and surface charges were used to investigate their impact on the viscous properties of water-based drilling fluid. Bentonite and KCl water-based drilling fluids were used as the base fluids. NPs such as Iron oxide, Silica (SiO2), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were added to these base fluids. Also, surface functionalization of the NPs with polymer and functional groups such as -OH and -COOH groups was done to compare the effect of bare NPs with surface functionalized NPs. Hershel-Buckley model with dimensionless shear rates was used to calculate the low and high shear curvature exponents, surplus stress, and yield stress of the samples. Results indicate that NPs alter drilling fluid’s viscous properties based on their sizes, shapes, and surface charges. Moreover, the functionalization of NPs also modifies the properties based on the functional group attached to the NPs surface. This work shows that changing the size, shape, and surface charge of NPs has impact on viscous parameters, and NPs with different properties can fine-tune the fluid’s viscous properties based on the requirement for drilling fluid.
