Abstract:
The small area estimation (SAE) theory is widely used when local or domain-specific reliable estimates based on survey data are needed. Small area model-based estimates use a model that links the response variable to some auxiliary information borrowing strength from the related areas. When geographical information on the areas of interest is available, the specification of a spatial area level model can increase the estimates’ efficiency, depending on available auxiliary data. In this article, we first review the most popular area level spatial models, and we then compare their performance under two alternative scenarios of auxiliary information availability to estimate the average equivalized household income in Italian Local Labour Market Areas (LLMAs) using the EU-SILC (European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions) survey data. Our findings suggest that the spatial information can “fill the gap” when the covariates do not have a high predictive power, a crucial result when there is lack of auxiliary data. Abstract:
To study the vibration characteristics of deep-groove ball bearing, considering the influence of sliding, the dynamic model of the DGB 6205 system is established in this paper. The DGB 6205 system model includes the movement of the bearing inner ring in the X and Y directions, the rotation of the cage, the rotation movement of each ball, the revolution movement of each ball and the movement along the radial direction of each ball. Based on the system model, the differential equations of motion of the system are established, and the correctness of the model is verified by experiment. The slip characteristics of the DGB 6205 system are studied by numerical simulation. At the same time, the influence of time-varying load on the vibration characteristics of the system is studied. Then, the sensitivity of system parameters is analyzed. The results show that the sliding speed between the ball and the inner raceway is greater than that between the ball and the outer raceway. The radial vibration response of DGB 6205 system under time-varying load is less than that under constant load. The increase of radial clearance will increase the vibration response of DGB 6205 system.

Abstract:
Lightning discharge becomes a serious source of interference and damage for electronic and electrical power systems. Safe and reliable operation of railway traffic control systems requires proper protection against the effects of lightning. However, the current standards on lightning protection, PN-EN/EN/IEC 62305, do not cover railway objects. Moreover, there are no other standards or recommendations dedicated to the railway. The paper is an attempt to apply the procedure of lightning risk management according to PN-EN 62305-2 to select the proper protection measures in railway objects. A case study for the signal box with installed relaying and digital stations of the railway traffic control system is analyzed. The analysis comprises calculations based on the current standard PN-EN 62305-2:2012 but including the issues specific to railway traffic control. The risks of lightning losses have been calculated for two cases: without lightning protection measures and with protection measures proposed to decrease the risks below the tolerable values. The results show that a practically effective solution to reduce the risks is applying surge protective devices with proper characteristics. Another way is replacing unshielded incoming lines with shielded ones of given shield bonding way, and supplementing it with surge protective devices when necessary.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Although various lightning protection methods have been used in the industry, many outdoor high-voltage (HV) substations are still experiencing high failure rates due to lightning strikes. The applications of these rule-of-thumb-based methods generally lack coherence among the practitioners. IEC 62305-2 provides a systematic way for practitioners to assess the lightning risk for buildings or structures in a probabilistic way. However, this standard has not explicitly covered the application of HV substations. Moreover, IEC 62305-2 involves a tedious set of risk factors which may hinder many practitioners from applying the aforementioned standards while other preferred rule-of-thumb methods are available. As IEC 62305-2 does not specify the applicability to lightning risk assessment in HV substations, this paper proposes a novel approach to complement the standard-based risk assessment process. During this integrated risk assessment process, significant risks are identified, followed by ambiguous risks that will be adjusted in subsequent phases. The significant ambiguous risk factors such as fire load function (rf), environmental factor (CE), LPL class, and other governing factors have been analyzed and discussed. By adjusting these significant risk factors, the practitioners will understand the adjusted risk factors in relation to the practical implementation of lightning protection system (LPS). Therefore, integrating the substation characteristics, assumptions, and findings of ambiguous risk factors can result in a successful integrated lightning risk assessment process.

Abstract:
Incorrect adjustment of railway traffic control devices (rtc) to the specificity of the area in terms of lightning density may result in their damage by lightning-caused electromagnetic pulses. An associated risk assessment, as the standard in the analyses of the strength of rtc devices, should be made. However, manufacturers of rtc devices typically do not perform tests with respect to such high overvoltage conditions. Particularly in the case of the EN 62305-2 standard, the manufacturers of new rail traffic control devices usually do not carry out such analyses. In this paper, an analysis of the damage vulnerability of rtc devices caused by lightning discharges for a selected structure, including a signal box equipped with digital rtc devices is presented. The necessity of conducting a lightning damage vulnerability analysis for rtc devices is demonstrated. A part of the railway track where lightning discharges occur was analyzed. The results of the risk analysis obtained with the use of the DEHN Risk Tool software and based on the standard EN 62305-2 (2008, Lightning protection. Part 2. Risk management) are presented. Due to the fact that railway devices are not included in the current standard, three documents were adopted for the analysis: two editions of EN/IEC 62305-2 (from 2008 and 2012) and the recommendations of the ITU-International Telecommunication Union ITU-T K.39 (10/1996). The presented analysis is performed according to the 2008 standard version and to the chosen device.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT We present new isochrone fits to colour–magnitude diagrams of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 6205 (M13). We utilize 34 photometric bands from the ultraviolet to mid-infrared by use of data from the HST, Gaia DR2, SDSS, unWISE, Pan-STARRS DR1, and other photometric sources. In our isochrone fitting we use the PARSEC, MIST, DSEP, BaSTI, and IAC-BaSTI theoretical models and isochrones, both for the solar-scaled and He–α-enhanced abundances, with a metallicity of about [Fe/H] = −1.58 adopted from the literature. The colour–magnitude diagrams, obtained with pairs of filters from different datasets but of similar effective wavelengths, show some colour offsets up to 0.04 mag between the fiducial sequences and isochrones. We attribute these offsets to systematic differences of the datasets. Some intrinsic systematic differences of the models/isochrones remain in our results: the derived distances and ages are different for the ultraviolet, optical and infrared photometry used, while the derived ages are different for the different models/isochrones, e.g. in the optical range from 12.3 ± 0.7 Gyr for He–α-enhanced DSEP to 14.4 ± 0.7 Gyr for MIST. Despite the presence of multiple stellar populations, we obtain convergent estimates for the dominant population: best-fitting distance 7.4 ± 0.2 kpc, true distance modulus 14.35 ± 0.06 mag, parallax 0.135 ± 0.004 mas, extinction AV = 0.12 ± 0.02, and reddening E(B − V) = 0.04 ± 0.01. These estimates agree with other recent estimates; however, the extinction and reddening are twice as high as generally accepted. The derived empirical extinction law agrees with the Cardelli–Clayton–Mathis extinction law with the best-fitting $R_\mathrm{V}=3.1^{+1.6}_{-1.1}$.

In the present investigation, an improved strategy in two phase sampling for estimating the variance of the regression estimator has been developed. The proposed technique has been found to be more efficient than the strategy adopted by Hidiroglou and Sarndal (1995, 1998). The proposed strategy here is analogous to the higher order calibration approach proposed by Singh, Horn and Yu (1998). Abstract: Randomized Response (RR) Technique (RRT), introduced by Warner (1965), is a well‐known way to unbiasedly estimate proportions of people bearing sensitive characteristics. Takahasi and Sakasegawa (1977) narrated a novel procedure avoiding any particular RR device unlike most researchers in this field. Most RRT’s in the literature give estimators for population totals and variance estimators thereof, allowing exclusively simple random sampling with replacement (SRSWR) schemes, including as well the above too. We present formulae applicable to general varying probability sampling, even without replacement applying Takahasi‐ Sakasegawa device. AMS (2000) Subject Classification: 62D05.

Abstract:
Abstract Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that are not translated into proteins. lncRNA TUG1 (taurine upregulated gene 1) is highly expressed in various cancers, including glioblastoma. Previously we found that TUG1 is an essential molecule for cancer cells to cope with excessive replication stress in the S phase. Albeit its importance to cell cycle-related function, how it is dynamically regulated during the cell cycle is entirely unknown. Here, we established a system visualizing endogenous TUG1 molecules in live cells. TUG1 was tagged with stem-loop motifs recognized by a specific binding protein fused with GFP. We tracked TUG1 RNA by the GFP signal for 22 hours in T98G glioblastoma cells and found that the expression started from the later G1 phase. When cells were treated with Hydroxy Urea, a chemical that interferes with replication and increases replication stress, the expression of TUG1 was further upregulated in the S phase within 20 mins. We also observed some TUG1 molecules accumulated in several nuclear locations. It may indicate that TUG1 assembles to protect damaged DNA loci efficiently. Our results suggest that the expression of TUG1 is regulated in a cell cycle-dependent manner and is strongly connected with its function of TUG1. The current live-cell imaging system could help further discover the critical roles of TUG1 in cancer cells. Citation Format: Ayaka Minematsu. Abstract:
AbstractPreventive measures to avoid urinary tract infection associated with indwelling bladder catheter (UTI-IBC). Have been associated with significant impact on patient’s outcomes. The aim of this study was to verify UTI-IBC prevention bundle compliance, agreement and reliability of the CCU assistance team. Prospective, quantitative, observational research approved by the research ethics committee (number 2.991.245), performed in the adult CCU of a university hospital. Patients hospitalized in the CCU for more than 24 hours who used IBC were included. Data were collected for three months consisted of evaluating bundle care records obtained in two different ways: the registries of IBC care included on the medical records, and the daily bedside IBC bundle checklist. The sample consisted of 40, 77.5% were male and the mean age was 62.05(±15.6) years. The compliance of the CCU healthcare team to the prevention bundle was 100%. For the items "Need to use the catheter" and "Collector bag below ⅔” agreement was very high and reliability was strong. In the item "Catheter properly fixed", although the agreement was high, reliability was slight. The items "Collector bag below the bladder's level" and "Intimate hygiene" agreement were very high, but it was not possible to verify reliability due to the limitation of Kappa's test. The healthcare team adhered to the implementation of prevention bundles. The agreement among the items was high, but not all items presented strong reliability, showing the importance of the continuous formation of the healthcare team. Keywords: Urinary Tract Infections. Potensi sumberdaya air DAS Singkil untuk keperluan pertanian mencapai 3.438,4 x 106 m3/tahun Analysis of Potential Water Resources at Singkil Watershed using Tank Model Abstract. Water demand continues to increase as the population growth, while the availability of water is not always consistent with the needs in terms of volume, place, time and its quality. Tank based hydrological models have been developed in many researches in Indonesia and in the world to predict the potential of water resources in a watershed. The optimalization of tank model parameter could be performed by using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), which has the capability to review the data and does not need much time to reach its optimized model. The purpose of this analysis is to determine the extent of a water resource potential in the Singkil Watershed based on the optimalization of Tank model parameter. Results of the optimalization of water balance of tank model parameter in Singkil Watershed include: hydrology characteristics of Singkil Watershed consisting of minimum debit of 3.60 mm/day, maximum debit 17.80 mm/day, and ratio of maximum/minimum debit is 4.94. Error indicators of Tank model in Singkil Watershed include Coefficient of Correlation (R), which is 0.6471, Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Square Mean Error (RMSE), which are 2.18 and 2.73, respectively. Several parameters obtained include total inflow (3,189.48 mm/year) and total outflow (3,155.64 mm/year) consisting of surface flow 11.75 mm/year, subsurface flow (669.84 mm/year), intermediate flow (62.05 mm/year), sub-base flow (0.74 mm/year), and base flow (2,411.26 mm/year). Based on the total base flow, the total volume of water availability flowing in Singkil River reaches 12,164 x 106 m3/year. The potential of water resources in Singkil Watershed for agriculture is 3,438.4 x 106 m3/year

Abstract:
In the present paper, are rendered the results of the research referring to the conservation status of the grasslands from two sites ‘Natura 2000’ located in Oltenia region, in South-Western part of Romania: ROSCI0202 Oltenia Forest Steppe and ROSCI0039 Ciuperceni - Desa. Within these sites, there are five habitats: 62C0* Ponto-Sarmatic steppes, 6260* Pannonic sand steppes, 6440 Alluvial meadows of river valleys of the Cnidion dubii, 6510 Lowland hay meadows (Alopecurus pratensis, Sanguisorba officinalis) and 1530* Pannonic salt steppes and salt marshes. The investigation of the conservation status of these habitats was carried out by assessing their conservation status at EU level, namely by assigning them to one of the four categories – “favourable”, “unfavourable-inadequate”, “unfavourable-bad”, and “unknown” – according to the stated attributes for each habitat, to the threats of destruction and to the dangers that may lead to their destruction or disappearance. By applying the evaluation matrix of the conservation state of the five habitats from the two sites Natura 2000, only three of the five studied habitats have a good conservation status: 62C0* Ponto-Sarmatic steppes, 6260* Pannonic sand steppes, 6440 alluvial meadows of river valleys of the Cnidion dubii. The habitat 1530* Pannonic salt steppes and salt marshes have a good-moderate status while 6510 Lowland hay meadows (Alopecurus pratensis, Sanguisorba officinalis) has amoderate-poor status. Referring to the characteristic structure and functions to the type of habitat, the research revealed that in numerous areas occupied by the five habitats good conservation conditions are not good.

Abstract:
AbstractWe have analyzed FUSE, COS, GHRS, and Keck/HIRES spectra of the UV-bright star Barnard 29 in M13. Fits to the star’s optical spectrum yield Teff = 20,000 ± 100 K and log g = 3.00 ± 0.01. Using modern stellar-atmosphere models, we are able to reproduce the complex shape of the Balmer H.. feature. We derive photospheric abundances of He, C, N, O, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Ar, Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, and Ge. Barnard 29 exhibits an abundance pattern typical of the first-generation stars in M13, enhanced in oxygen and depleted in aluminum. We see no evidence of significant chemical evolution since the star left the RGB; in particular, it did not undergo third dredge-up. Previous workers found that the star’s FUV spectra yield an iron abundance about 0.5 dex lower than its optical spectrum, but the iron abundances derived from all of our spectra are consistent with one another and with the cluster value. We attribute this difference to our use of model atmospheres without microturbulence. By comparing our best-fit model with the star’s optical magnitudes, we derive a mass M*/M=0.40 − 0.49 and luminosity log L*/L⊙=3.20 − 3.29, depending on the cluster distance. Comparison with stellar-evolution models suggests that Barnard 29 evolved from a ZAHB star of mass M*/M⊙∼0.50, placing it near the boundary between the extreme and blue horizontal branches.
