Solution-processed devices with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) compounds have gained great attention due to their low cost and high performance. Here, two solution-processable TADF emitters named ACCz-DPyM and POxCz-DPyM were synthesized by coupled 9,10-dihydro-9,9-dimethylacridine or phenoxazine modified carbazole as donor with di(pyridin-3-yl)methanone as acceptor. Both TADF compounds show same small ΔΕST of 0.04 eV and high PLQY of 66.2% and 58.2%. The devices fabricated by ACCz-DPyM and POxCz-DPyM as emitters show excellent performance as solution-processed with low turn-on voltage of 4.0 and 3.4 V, high luminance of 6209 and 3248 cd m−2 at 8 V, the maximum current efficiency of 9.9 and 15.9 cd A−1, the maximum external quantum efficiency of 6.6% and 6.5% and low efficiency roll-off. The solution-processed device based on ACCz-DPyM shows bluish-green emission. These results show that ACCz-DPyM and POxCz-DPyM are suitable for solution processing devices.

Background: Advanced Parkinson’s disease (APD) has been recently defined as a stage in which certain symptoms and complications are present, with a detrimental influence on the overall patient’s health conditions and with a poor response to conventional treatments. However, historically, the term APD has been controversial, thus consequently, APD prevalence has not been previously studied. Objectives: The main objective was to determine the prevalence of APD in patients diagnosed with idiopathic PD in hospitals of the Spanish National Healthcare System. Secondary objectives were the prevalence and incidence of PD and the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics and quality of life of patients with APD or non-APD. Methods: This was a non-interventional, cross-sectional, multicenter, national study in the hospital setting. Results: The study population included 929 patients with PD (mean age 71.8 ± 10.1 years; 53.8% male) and a mean time since diagnosis of 6.6 ± 5.4 years. At the time of diagnosis, 613 patients (66.06%) reported having had premotor symptoms. The Hoehn and Yahr stage was 1 in 15.7% of the patients, 2 in 42.8%, 3 in 30.1%, 4 in 9.9%, and 5 in 1.4%; 46.9% of the patients had comorbidities (mean age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index 3.5 ± 1.7; median 10-year survival 77%) and the mean 8-item Parkinson’s Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire was 27.8 ± 20.5. We found an APD prevalence of 38.21% (95%CI: 35.08–41.42%), a PD prevalence of 118.4 (95%CI: 117.3–119.6), and a PD incidence of 9.4 (95%CI: 5.42–13.4) all per 100,000 population. Among the APD population, a 15.2% were receiving some form of therapy for advanced stages of the disease (deep brain stimulation, levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel, or apomorphine subcutaneous infusion). Conclusions: The percentage of patients with APD in the hospitals of the Spanish National Healthcare System was 38.2%.

Introduction We determined the impact of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) on health outcomes and costs in Canada, based on their effect on smoking cessation and smoking initiation rates. Methods We used gender-specific Markov models to estimate lifetime discounted life years, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and smoking-related health care costs for cohorts of males and females aged 15 to 19 years, in scenarios in which (1) ENDS areavailable (status quo); (2) ENDS are completely unavailable; and (3) ENDS are available for smoking cessation through health care provider prescription, in addition to currently recognized smoking cessation tools. Analysis was from the perspective of a publicly funded health care system. Results Outcomes are expressed per 1000 individuals and based on expected values obtained through a Monte Carlo simulation of 10 000 replications. For males aged 15 to 19 years, life years, QALYs and smoking-related health care costs were 41 553, 35 871 and CAD 79 645 964, respectively, when ENDS were available; 41 568, 35 894 and CAD 79 645 960 when ENDS were unavailable; and 41 570, 35 897 and CAD 79 605 869 when ENDS were available through prescription only. For females, life years, QALYs and smoking-related health care costs were 43 596, 37 416 and CAD 69 242 856, respectively, when ENDS were available; 43 610, 37 438 and CAD 69 085 926 when ENDS were unavailable; and 43 611, 37 438 and CAD 69 076 034 when ENDS were available through prescription only. Thus, situations in which ENDS are unavailable, or available through prescription only are dominant over the status quo. Conclusion These results show that a policy change whereby ENDS were unavailable to the Canadian population or available through prescription only would likely increase population health and reduce health care costs.

Salt-sensitive (`Illusion') and salt-tolerant (`Blazon') New Guinea impatiens cultivars were grown for 70 days with a controlled-release fertilizer at 3.3, 6.6, or 9.9 g/pot under constant media moisture of 1–3 kPa or 4–6 kPa. Optimum growth for both cultivars occurred using 6.6 g/pot and a media moisture level of 1–3 kPa. The leaf area (LA), leaf number (LN), leaf dry weight (LDW), stem dry weight (SDW), and root dry weight (RDW) were significantly reduced at 9.9 g/pot in `Illusion', with values similar to those at 3.3 g/pot. LDW, SDW, RDW, LA, and LN were similar for 6.6 g/pot and 9.9 g/pot in `Blazon'. At 4–6 kPa LDW, SDW, RDW, LA, and LN decreased from low to high in `Illusion'. LA in `Blazon' also decreased from low to high, but LDW, SDW, RDW, and LN were unaffected. Media EC levels were greater in the upper half of the media regardless of moisture level. EC values as high as 7.3 dS·m–1 in the upper half of the media and as high as 5.2 dS·m–1 in the lower half of the media were measured without causing plant mortality.

The aim of the study was to determine the role of foreign citizens registered in Moscow region, in the maintenance of the epidemic process of measles, rubella and mumps based on the basis of their susceptibility to these infections and compare with the control group (residents of the Russia Central Federal District - donors of blood). Materials and methods. Examination included 909 samples of blood sera obtained from migrant workers and 939 blood donors (residents of the Central Federal district of Russia) which were tested for the presence of antibodies (IgG) to measles, rubella and mumps with the help of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results. Average relative density of seronegative persons among the surveyed migrants and donors to rubella virus ranged from 6.6 to 9.8%, the measles virus - 13.5 and 16.5%, respectively, statistically significant distinctions in groups were not established. The proportion of seronegative persons to mumps virus twice and more exceeded the standard documentation level among migrants and donors (32.5 and 47.5% respectively). Conclusion. There was a significant excess of the permissible level of seronegative persons to the measles, rubella and mumps viruses among migrant workers and blood donors, which creates preconditions for maintenance of epidemic process and dictates the necessity of carrying out the corrective vaccination (or revaccination) of non-immune persons

ImportancePediatric emergency department (ED) visits for substance use (SU) increased during COVID-19. Better understanding of trends associated with SU ED visits among youths with a chronic medical condition (CMC) is needed to target SU screening, prevention, and intervention efforts in this population.ObjectiveTo describe trends in pediatric SU ED visits before and during COVID-19 among youths in the US with and without CMCs and by race and ethnicity.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsIn this cohort study, data were obtained from 47 US children’s hospital EDs in the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) between March 1, 2018, and March 1, 2022. The cohort included patients aged 10 to 18 years. Data analysis occurred from November 2022 to February 2023.ExposuresED visit occurrence before or during the COVID-19 pandemic and with or without the presence of a CMC. CMCs included chronic conditions (CCs) and complex CCs (CCCs).Main Outcomes and MeasuresThe primary outcome was the number of visits for an SU diagnosis based on diagnostic codes for youths with and without CMCs. Trends were assessed using logistic regression, adjusting for covariates and center effect.ResultsThe sample included 3 722 553 ED visits from March 1, 2018, to March 1, 2022 (1 932 258 aged 14-18 years [51.9%]; 1 969 718 female [52.9%]; 961 121 Hispanic [25.8%]; 977 097 non-Hispanic Black [26.2%]; 1 473 656 non-Hispanic White [39.6%]). Of all visits, 1 016 913 (27.3%) were youths with CCs and 367 934 (9.9%) were youths with CCCs. Youth SU ED visits increased for all groups during COVID-19. The SU ED visits increased by 23% for youths with CCs (21 357 visits [4.0%] to 23 606 visits [4.9%]), by 26% for youths with CCCs (3594 visits [1.9%] to 4244 visits [2.4%]), and by 50% for youths without CCs (4997 visits [0.4%] to 5607 visits [0.6%]). Furthermore, compared with youths without CCs, youths with CCs had consistently larger odds of SU than the other groups before COVID-19 (adjusted odds ratio, 9.74; 99% CI, 9.35-10.15) and during COVID-19 (adjusted odds ratio, 8.58; 99% CI, 8.25-8.92). The interaction between race and ethnicity and CMCs was significant (P for interaction < .001).Conclusions and RelevanceThe findings of this cohort study suggest that providing SU services to all youths during times of societal crises is critical, but particularly for youths with CMCs who experience higher potential health impacts from SU given their medical concerns.

The objectives of this study were to determine 1) the minimum controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) rate and the lowest constant medium moisture required to produce the highest quality plants and 2) if this production system affected quality of these plants under two postproduction light levels. Two New Guinea impatiens (Impatiens sp. hybrids) `Illusion' and `Blazon' (Lasting Impressions Series) differing in salt tolerance were grown for 42 days with a CRF at three rates (3.3, 6.6, or 9.9 g/pot) and two medium moisture levels (low or high) without leaching. The high moisture level (tension setpoints of 1 to 3 kPa) and 6.6 g of CRF/pot produced optimum biomass. Low medium moisture (tension setpoints of 4 to 6 kPa) reduced leaf area, leaf number, leaf N content, root, stem, and leaf dry masses as CRF rate increased from low to high for `Illusion'. Similar results in `Blazon' were observed as CRF rates increased from 3.3 to 6.6 g. Biomass decreased no further at the high rate of 9.9 g/pot. Biomass increased in both cultivars under high medium moisture when CRF rates increased from 3.3 to 6.6 g. Biomass of `Illusion' decreased at 9.9 g/pot, although no symptoms of salt sensitivity were observed (i.e., leaf tip burn). `Blazon' maintained a similar biomass when amended with 9.9 or 6.6 g CRF/pot, although electrical conductivity (EC) in the medium was 5.9 dS·m-1 in the upper half and 4.1 dS·m-1 in the lower half of the medium at the end of production. Growth of `Illusion' responded more favorably to postproduction light levels that were similar to those of production regardless of treatment imposed during production. Similar biomass responses occurred for `Blazon' regardless of the postproduction light level.

There are few reports on drug utilization and drug-drug interactions in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in Egypt. A total of 94 patients participated in this retrospective observational study. Patient’s medical records were used to collect demographics, medical history, admission and discharge dates and medications used. The mean ± SD of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores was 9.9 ± 4.4 and the median length of stay was 7 days (range 1–47 days). The total number of prescribed medications ranged from 4–29 with a mean ± SD of 14.1 ± 5.5 medications per patient. The top three most prescribed categories belonged to (1) anti-infective agents (23.9%); (2) electrolyte, caloric and water balance agents (14.6%); and (3) blood formation, coagulation and thrombosis (11.3%). The proton pump inhibitor, esomeprazole, was the most frequently prescribed medication accounting for 6.5% of total prescriptions, followed by clindamycin and magnesium sulfate each accounting for 3.5% of total prescriptions. The potential Drug-Drug Interactions (pDDIs) showed a total of 968 pDDIs with a mean ± SD (range) of 10.2 ± 9.4 (0–43) pDDIs per patient: severe (contraindicated) (3), major (178), moderate (618) and minor (169). Overall, the drug utilization patterns in this study were consistent with ICU drug utilization from other countries in the region. The implementation of clinical decision support systems and the involvement of clinical pharmacists may help improve medication safety.

The Chinese, the oldest neighbors and enemies of the Turks in ancient times, are one of the peoples who left the deepest trace in the Turkic culture. The names used in ancient Turkic texts for the Chinese who ruled dynasties also differ depending on the periods and dynasties. The most commonly used of these names are tabgaç/tavgaç, kitań and çin (tabgach/tavgach, kitan and chin). The first two of these words refer to the Turkic Khaganate, and the third is partially found in ancient Turkic texts dating back to the ancient Uighur period.In the Old Turkic period, which lasted from the VI to the XIII centuries, the I Turkic Khaganate (Kekturk), II Turkic Khaganate (Kutluk), Orkhun-Uygur Khaganate, Kansu-Uygur Khanate, Khojo-Uygur Khanate, Turkic Khakanate (Karakhanid), Western Turkic Khakanate and Eastern Turkic Khakanate ruled. The equivalents of this period in the history of China are the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420–581/589), the Sui Dynasty (581–618), the Tang Dynasty (618–907), the Five Dynasties Ten Kingdoms (907–960) and the Song Dynasty (960–1279). For this reason, in ancient Turkic texts related to China, one of these Chinese dynasties should be indicated in the designations, depending on the period of the text.In this study, textual assessments of the origin, derivatives and use of names related to the Chinese in the ancient Turkic language will be carried out on the basis of the words tabgaç/tavgaç, kitań and çin.

Latar belakang: Tuberkulosis (TB) masih menjadi penyebab utama tingginya angka kesakitan dan kematian. Insiden TB anak sekitar 6% dari semua kasus TB namun spektrum penyakit TB anak masih belum jelas. Tujuan penelitian ini menggambarkan profil demografi, spektrum penyakit, dan respon pengobatan seluruh anak dengan TB pada 3 tahun terakhir di Rumah Sakit dr M Djamil Padang. Metode: Studi ini merupakan penelitian retrospektif terhadap semua anak menderita TB di Rumah Sakit Dr. M. Djamil pada tahun 2014-2016. Data dikumpulkan dari rekam medis pasien. Hasil: Terdapat 198 anak dengan diagnosis TB, 114 pasien rawat jalan dan 84 pasien rawat inap. Sebagian besar berusia 5-9 tahun (40,9%), laki-laki 66,7% dan 78,8% berstatus sosial ekonomi rendah. TB paru lebih banyak ditemukan pada pasien rawat jalan daripada rawat inap (69,3% vs 15,5%), TB ekstraparu lebih banyak ditemukan pada pasien rawat inap (84,5% vs 30,7%). Penyakit penyerta tersering adalah HIV (6,6%). Gejala terbanyak pada pasien rawat inap adalah penurunan kesadaran (67,9%) sedangkan pasien rawat jalan adalah penurunan berat badan (43,9%). Temuan tes tuberkulin positif hampir sama pada pasien rawat jalan dan rawat inap (48,2% vs 45,2%). Riwayat kontak TB ditemukan pada 43,9% kasus. Rontgen toraks dengan gambaran TB ditemukan pada 92,4% kasus. 78,3% kasus pulih paska 6 bulan pengobatan, 21% pulih dengan pengobatan tambahan, yang lainnya pindah ke pelayanan kesehatan primer dan putus obat. Efek samping obat terjadi pada 6,6% kasus, 6,6% kasus meninggal. Kesimpulan: Terdapat variasi spektrum klinis yang luas pada TB anak, data surveilans yang komprehensif sangat berguna untuk menentukan kebijakan berikutnya untuk menurunkan insiden TB.

Optimization of post-translational modifications was shown to affect the ability of recombinant human acetylcholinesterase (rHuAChE) produced in HEK-293 cells to be retained in the circulation for prolonged periods of time [Kronman, Velan, Marcus, Ordentlich, Reuveny and Shafferman (1995) Biochem. J. 311, 959–967; Chitlaru, Kronman, Zeevi, Kam, Harel, Ordentlich, Velan and Shafferman (1998) Biochem. J. 336, 647–658; Chitlaru, Kronman, Velan and Shafferman (2001) Biochem. J. 354, 613–625]. To evaluate the possible contribution of the number of appended N-glycans in determining the pharmacokinetic behaviour of AChE, a series of sixteen recombinant human AChE glycoforms, differing in their number of appended N-glycans (2, 3, 4 or 5 glycans), state of assembly (dimeric or tetrameric) and terminal glycan sialylation (partially or fully sialylated) were generated. Extensive structural analysis of N-glycans demonstrated that the various glycan types associated with all the different rHuAChE glycoforms are essentially similar both in structure and abundance, and that production of the various glycoforms in the sialyltransferase-overexpressing 293ST-2D6 cell line resulted in the generation of enzyme species that carry glycans sialylated to the same extent. Pharmacokinetic profiling of the rHuAChE glycoforms in their fully tetramerized and sialylated state clearly demonstrated that circulatory longevity correlated directly with the number of attached N-glycans (mean residence times for rHuAChE glycoforms harbouring 2, 3, and 4 glycans = 200, 740, and 1055min respectively). This study provides evidence that glycan loading, together with N-glycan terminal processing and enzyme subunit oligomerization, operate in a hierarchical and concerted manner in determining the pharmacokinetic characteristics of AChE.

In the crystal, the molecules are linked along the a-axis direction through van der Waals forces and along the b axis by face-to-face π-stacking between the thiophene rings and between the benzene rings of neighbouring molecules, forming corrugated sheets lying parallel to the bc plane. The intermolecular interactions in the crystal packing were further analysed using Hirshfield surface analysis, which indicates that the most significant contacts are Cl...H/ H...Cl (28.6%), followed by C...H/H...C (11.9%), C...C (11.1%), H...H (11.0%), Cl...Cl (8.1%), O...H/H...O (8.0%) and S...H/H...S (6.6%).

Omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplements have become increasingly popular with consumers due to their multiple health benefits. In this study, the presence of mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH) was investigated in seventeen commercial samples of such supplements, characterized by different formulations. The analyses were performed using on-line liquid chromatography–gas chromatography (with flame ionization detection), which is considered the most efficient method for the determination of MOH in foodstuffs. Analyte transfer was performed by using the retention gap technique, with partially concurrent solvent evaporation. Various degrees of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbon contamination (from 2.4 ppm to 375.7 ppm) were found, with an average value of 49.9 ppm. Different C-number range contaminations were determined, with the >C25–≤C35 range always found with an average value of 26.9 ppm. All samples resulted free of mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons, except for two samples in which a contamination was found at the 9.9 and 6.6 ppm levels, respectively.

Expansion and densification of urbanized areas can lead to increased pressure on an area’s water and wastewater infrastructure. This paper presents an optimization model using geographic information systems to locate potential sources and sinks of reclaimed water within an urbanized area. A mathematical solver then maximizes the water reuse using a set of constraints on mass balance, water quality, and electricity used for pumping. Three variations of the model are applied to Vancouver, British Columbia. The first scenario identifies a number of potential industrial sources and sinks for direct cascading with a total potential water savings of 133 400 m3/year. With the implementation of a satellite water reclamation facility in scenario 2, water recycling potential is increased to a maximum of 613 800 m3/year. Scenario 3 expands to include the non-industrial water users and the potential for water reuse is increased to a maximum of 969 200 m3/year.

A compact multiband monopole antenna is proposed for vehicular roof top shark-fin applications. The proposed multiband antenna covers 5G sub-6 GHz and LTE bands starting at 617 MHz to 5000 MHz and the higher GNSS band from 1559 to 1606 MHz as well as the V2X band at 5900 MHz. The presented antenna is a three-dimensional monopole antenna with two branches to cover the required bands with compact size to fit inside a roof top shark-fin. The long antenna branch covers the lower cellular frequency band from 617 to 960 MHz, while the short branch covers the higher frequency band from 1559 to 6000 MHz. The presented antenna is mounted on a double-sided FR4 PCB and is feeded through a short cable. The proposed antenna covers multiple frequency bands with compact size (H x L x W) of 58 × 37 × 17 mm3. The antenna is simulated and optimized, and then, a prototype is fabricated, and its radiation characteristics are measured when mounted on one-meter ground plane and on a vehicle’s roof. The maximum measured linear average gain is 3 dBi at 1900 MHz, and the maximum measured efficiency is 88% at 787 MHz. The active GNSS antenna gain is measured using an LNA with good isolation. A good agreement is achieved between the simulated and measured results when compared in terms of voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), radiation patterns, linear average gain (LAG), and antenna efficiency.

In this study, microwave annealing treatment was introduced into poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]-phenyl-C61butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) and poly(9,9‘-dioctylfluorene-cobithiophene (PFT2):PCBM systems instead of thermal annealing treatment. In both systems, microwave annealing showed photovoltaic performane comparable to that of conventional thermal annealing. Through the UV-vis absorption, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies, we were able to confirm that the microwave annealing increases the crystallization of the P3HT polymer chains.

Abstract Rivaroxaban (BAY 59–7939) is an oral, direct Factor Xa inhibitor in advanced clinical development for the prevention and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolic disorders. Two phase IIb, randomized, dose-ranging studies were performed to investigate the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban, relative to open-label standard therapy (LMWH/heparin+vitamin K antagonist), for the initial treatment and secondary prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The EINSTEIN-DVT study included 543 patients with acute, symptomatic, objectively confirmed proximal DVT, without symptomatic pulmonary embolism (PE), who received rivaroxaban 20, 30, or 40 mg once daily (od) or standard therapy. The ODIXa-DVT study (n=613) included similar patients who received rivaroxaban 10, 20, 30 mg twice daily (bid), or 40 mg od, or standard therapy. Patients had a quantitative ultrasound (US) and a perfusion lung scan (PLS) at baseline, and after 3 weeks’ treatment in ODIXa-DVT and 3 months’ treatment in EINSTEIN-DVT. The efficacy outcome was the composite of venous thromboembolism (VTE) - objectively confirmed, symptomatic recurrent DVT or symptomatic, fatal or non-fatal PE - and asymptomatic deterioration on the repeat US or PLS at 3 weeks (ODIXa-DVT), or 3 months (EINSTEIN-DVT). Bleeding was classed as major; clinically relevant, non-major; or minor in EINSTEIN-DVT, and major or minor in ODIXa-DVT. EINSTEIN-DVT: Symptomatic, recurrent VTE or deterioration of US or PLS at 3 months occurred in 6.0%, 5.4%, and 6.6% of patients receiving rivaroxaban 20, 30, and 40 mg od, respectively, and in 9.9% of patients receiving standard therapy. ODIXa-DVT: Symptomatic, recurrent VTE or deterioration of US or PLS at 3 weeks occurred in 3.0%, 4.3%, 5.7%, and 4.8% of patients receiving rivaroxaban 10, 20, 30 mg bid, and 40 mg od, respectively, and in 2.9% of patients receiving standard therapy. Symptomatic, recurrent VTE at 3 months occurred in 1.0%, 1.0%, 0.9%, 1.8%, and 0.9% of patients receiving rivaroxaban 10, 20, 30 mg bid, 40 mg od, and standard therapy, respectively. Improvement in thrombotic burden by US or PLS at 3 weeks was observed in 71.7%, 69.1%, 67.9%, and 58.1% of patients receiving rivaroxaban 10, 20, 30 mg bid, and 40 mg od, respectively, and in 61.2% of patients receiving standard therapy. The incidence of major bleeding was low in both studies at 3 months (Table). In conclusion, rivaroxaban, given od or bid over a wide dose range, was as effective and safe as standard therapy for the treatment of acute, symptomatic DVT. At 3 weeks, the bid regimens were associated with greater improvement in the thrombotic burden than the od regimen, possibly because of higher rivaroxaban trough levels with bid dosing. At 3 months, the bid and od regimens performed similarly, compared with standard therapy. Therefore, rivaroxaban can be used for both the primary treatment and secondary prevention of VTE. For secondary prevention, these data support the use of long-term rivaroxaban 20 mg od for phase III studies. BackgroundVarious nationwide studies have been already published to better understand Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD) (1,2). However, Portuguese data is not available.ObjectivesTo characterize clinical and immunological features of a Portuguese cohort of patients with MCTD.MethodsRetrospective, multicenter study including adult-onset patients with clinical diagnosis of MCTD and fulfilling at least one of the following classification criteria: Sharp, Kasukawa, Alarcón-Segovia or the Kahn’s criteria. Positivity to other autoantibodies besides anti-U1-RNP were allowed. SPSS was used for statistical analysis and significance level was defined as 2-sided p<.05.ResultsA total of 98 patients were included, with a mean age at diagnosis and disease duration of 40.5±13.7 and 7.0±6.5 years, respectively. Most patients were female (87.8%) and Caucasian (70.4%). Raynaud’s phenomenon (96.9%), arthralgia/arthritis (94.9/74.5%) and puffy fingers (60.2%) were the most common and early manifestations. Gastroesophageal (GE), respiratory and muscular involvement were also prevalent, mostly during the follow up, affecting 30.6%, 34.7% and 43.9% of the patients, respectively. Clinical and immunological characteristics are described in Table 1. Males were older at symptom’s onset (65.0 VS 46.7, p=.035), having more respiratory involvement (OR=4.5, 95% CI 1.3-16.4), and positivity to anti-ACPA (OR=20.0, 95% CI: 3.1-129.4). GE involvement occurred more often in Caucasian patients (OR=3.8; 95% CI: 1.0-14.1), while anemia of chronic diseases (OR=2.7; 95% CI: 1.0-7.2), myositis (OR=3.6; 95% CI: 1.3-9.9) and constitutional symptoms (OR=3.2; 95% CI: 1.2-8.3) were more frequent in Afro-American patients, whose were also younger at disease (34.1 VS 50.6, p=.01). This article examines the legacy of the one of the most prominent Arab-Muslim linguists of the 10th century, Abu al-Fath ‘Uthman ibn Jinni. A review of the author's most outstanding works has been conducted. The analysis of the above works on the use of the Quranic text, both as a subject and as a tool for learning branches of Arabic grammar, is carried out. As an illustration of quoting the Quran in the works under consideration, specific examples are given. The purpose of the article is to focus on the interpretation of the Holy Quran through the prism of the Arabic language "التفسير اللغوي" and the presentation of Ibn Jinni to the Russian community, not only as a linguist, but also as a Mufassir. Also, the conclusion of this article is to confirm the validity of the statement that a deep study of Arabic grammar is impossible without referring to the Quranic verses, just as an in-depth understanding of Divine Revelation requires knowledge of the grammar of the Arabic language.

Introduction Nous avons déterminé l’incidence des inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine sur les coûts et les résultats liés à la santé au Canada en fonction de leur effet sur les taux d’arrêt du tabagisme et d’initiation au tabagisme. Méthodologie Nous avons utilisé des modèles de Markov selon le genre pour estimer les années de vie actualisées sur un horizon à vie, les années de vie ajustées en fonction de la qualité (AVAQ) et les coûts des soins de santé liés au tabagisme pour des cohortes de garçons et de filles de 15 à 19 ans, selon des scénarios où 1) les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine sont accessibles (statu quo), 2) les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine ne sont aucunement accessibles et 3) les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine sont accessibles sur ordonnance d’un fournisseur de soins de santé pour l’arrêt du tabagisme, en complément aux outils de cessation tabagique actuellement reconnus. L’analyse a été effectuée du point de vue d’un système de soins de santé financé par des fonds publics. Résultats Les résultats sont exprimés pour 1 000 personnes et reposent sur les valeurs attendues obtenues par une simulation de Monte-Carlo avec 10 000 itérations. Pour les garçons de 15 à 19 ans, les années de vie, les AVAQ et les coûts des soins de santé liés au tabagisme étaient de respectivement 41 553, 35 871 et 79 645 964 $ CA lorsque les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine étaient accessibles, de respectivement 41 568, 35 894 et 79 645 960 $ CA lorsque les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine n’étaient pas accessibles et de respectivement 41 570, 35 897 et 79 605 869 $ CA lorsque les inhalateurs électroniques de nicotine étaient accessibles sur ordonnance seulement. Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) based on a donor (D) polymer and an acceptor (A) fullerene derivative is a promising organic photovoltaics (OPV). In order to improve the incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) of the BHJ solar cell, a comprehensive understanding of the ultrafast dynamics of excited species, such as singlet exciton (D*), interfacial charge-transfer (CT) state, and carrier (D+), is indispensable. Here, we performed femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy of two prototypical BHJ blend films: poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/[6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) blend film and poly(9,9′-dioctylfluorene-co-bithiophene) (F8T2)/[6,6]-phenyl C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM) blend film. We decomposed differential absorption spectra into fast, slow, and constant components via two-exponential fitting at respective probe photon energies. The decomposition procedure clearly distinguished photoinduced absorptions (PIAs) due to D*, CT, and D+. Based on these assignments, we will compare the charge dynamics between the F8T2/PC70BM and P3HT/PCBM blend films.

K3AsSe4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma (no. 62) with a = 9:4169(4), b = 10:9695(5), c = 9:7568(8) Å, Z = 4 and V = 1007:86(10) Å3 and contains [AsSe4]3- anions with pentavalent arsenic. K4As2Se5 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n (no. 14) with a = 7:6167(2), b = 22:8733(4), c = 8:4687(2) Å, b = 107:241(2)°, Z = 4 and V = 1409:14(5) Å3, and shows isolated [As2Se5]4- anions. The most prominent feature of the latter anions is the presence of arsenic in two different formal oxidation states (+4/+2) due to the presence of an As-As bond.

Background The birth rate in Indonesia is still high and abnormallabor constitutes 15% of all deliveries which needs cesarean sec-tion as a solution for complicated cases.Objectives To find the general physical condition of babies bornafter cesarean section as well as the characteristics of motherswho underwent cesarean section.Methods A retrospective study on newborn babies delivered bycesarean section conducted in Subdivision of Neonatology, Medi-cal School, University of North Sumatera-Pirngadi Hospital Medan,in period of 2 years (1991-1992).Results There were 8762 babies born during the study period,1484 babies (16.93%) delivered by cesarean section due to pla-centa previa (26.2%), prolonged labor (15.8%), cephalopelvic dis-proportion (10.3%), neglected labor (9.9%), eclampsia/preeclamp-sia (8.1%), fetal distress (7.5%), previous section (6.6%), breechpresentation (5.7%), solutio placenta (4.0%), and others (5.9%). Itwas shown that mothers undergoing caesarean section was mainly20-30 years old (66.4%), multigravida (47.8%), term gestationalage (79.4%), and minimal antenatal care (61.3%). There were 1224(82.5%) babies with birth weight >2500 grams and 894 (60.2%)suffered from asphyxia.Conclusions The evidence of asphyxia by cesarean section andlow birth weight group was significantly different from those nor-mally delivered (p<0.001). The mortality rate was 11.5% due tostill birth 29.2%, RDS 18.3%, sepsis 15.5%, pneumonia 12.3%,and gastroenteritis 11.5%

Objective To review the long-term results of the Modified Cautery Assisted Palatoplasty (ModCAP) procedure for the treatment of OSA. Methods Prospective non-randomized trial in 43 consecutive patients with OSA. All patients were >18 years old, type I Fujita, BMI <30, Friedman clinical stage II, with AHI from 1.0 to 30.0. The mean follow time was 32.4 months. The procedure involved an anterior soft palatal advancement technique with or without removal of the tonsils. The procedure was done under GA if the tonsils were removed as well, and done under LA if the tonsils were small or not present. Results There were 41 men and 2 women, the mean age was 39.2 years old (range of 21 to 49), mean BMI was 25.7 (range of 20.7 to 26.8). All patients had pre-operative PSG, only OSA patients had post-operative PSG repeated. There were 15 snorers and 28 OSA patients. The AHI improved in the patients with OSA, 25.3 ± 12.6 to 11.0 ± 9.9 (p<0.05). The overall success rate for this OSA group was 65.1% (at mean 32.4 months). The mean snore scores (VAS) improved from 8.4 to 3.5 (for all 43 patients). Post-operative pain scores were fairly low, from a range of 4.5 to 6.6 (at 5th POD). Lowest oxygen saturation also improved in all the OSA patients. Subjectively, all the patients felt less tired. Conclusions This technique has been shown to be effective in the management of patients with OSA and simple snoring.

Mục tiêu: Đánh giá hiệu quả dự phòng run và các tác dụng không mong muốn khác của ketamine 0,2 mg/kg tiêm tĩnh mạch sau gây tê tủy sống (GTTS) cho phẫu thuật chi dưới. Phương pháp nghiên cứu: Nghiên cứu lâm sàng tiến cứu trên 30 bệnh nhân (BN) có chỉ định phẫu thuật chi dưới với phương pháp vô cảm GTTS với liều bupivacaine ưu tỷ trọng 0,5% 6 - 10mg kết hợp fentanyl 20mcg. Ngay sau GTTS, các BN được tiêm tĩnh mạch ketamine 0,2 mg/kg để dự phòng run. Kết quả: Tỷ lệ run trong mổ là 10%, trong đó, run độ 2 là 6,6% và run độ 3 là 3,3%. Tỷ lệ run sau mổ là 3,3% (run độ 2). Trong mổ, tỷ lệ ảo giác, buồn nôn, nôn, nhịp tim chậm, nhịp tim nhanh, tụt huyết áp, cao huyết áp, đau đầu, ngứa, chóng mặt, an thần với điểm an thần OAAS4 tương ứng là 26,7%; 6,6%; 3,3%; 36,7%; 3,3%; 73,3%; 3,3%; 3,3%; 6,6%; 26,7%. Sau mổ, tỷ lệ buồn nôn, nôn, đau đầu, ngứa tương ứng là 9,9%; 6,6%; 3,3%. Kết luận: Tiêm tĩnh mạch ketamine 0,2 mg/kg có hiệu quả dự phòng run sau GTTS cho phẫu thuật chi dưới với các tác dụng không mong muốn thoáng qua, dễ xử trí.

ABSTRACTHuman papillomavirus 18 (HPV18) is the second most common oncogenic HPV type associated with cervical, anogenital, and oropharyngeal cancers. Like other oncogenic HPVs, HPV18 encodes two major (one early and one late) polycistronic pre-mRNAs that are regulated by alternative RNA splicing to produce a repertoire of viral transcripts for the expression of individual viral genes. However, RNAcis-regulatory elements andtrans-acting factors contributing to HPV18 alternative RNA splicing remain unknown. In this study, an exonic splicing enhancer (ESE) in the nucleotide (nt) 3520 to 3550 region in the HPV18 genome was identified and characterized for promotion of HPV18 929^3434 splicing and E1^E4 production through interaction with SRSF3, a host oncogenic splicing factor differentially expressed in epithelial cells and keratinocytes. Introduction of point mutations in the SRSF3-binding site or knockdown of SRSF3 expression in cells reduces 929^3434 splicing and E1^E4 production but activates other, minor 929^3465 and 929^3506 splicing. Knockdown of SRSF3 expression also enhances the expression of E2 and L1 mRNAs. An exonic splicing silencer (ESS) in the HPV18 nt 612 to 639 region was identified as being inhibitory to the 233^416 splicing of HPV18 E6E7 pre-mRNAs via binding to hnRNP A1, a well-characterized, abundantly and ubiquitously expressed RNA-binding protein. Introduction of point mutations into the hnRNP A1-binding site or knockdown of hnRNP A1 expression promoted 233^416 splicing and reduced E6 expression. These data provide the first evidence that the alternative RNA splicing of HPV18 pre-mRNAs is subject to regulation by viral RNAciselements and hosttrans-acting splicing factors.IMPORTANCEExpression of HPV18 genes is regulated by alternative RNA splicing of viral polycistronic pre-mRNAs to produce a repertoire of viral early and late transcripts. RNAciselements andtrans-acting factors contributing to HPV18 alternative RNA splicing have been discovered in this study for the first time. The identified ESS at the E7 open reading frame (ORF) prevents HPV18 233^416 splicing in the E6 ORF through interaction with a host splicing factor, hnRNP A1, and regulates E6 and E7 expression of the early E6E7 polycistronic pre-mRNA. The identified ESE at the E1^E4 ORF promotes HPV18 929^3434 splicing of both viral early and late pre-mRNAs and E1^E4 production through interaction with SRSF3. This study provides important observations on how alternative RNA splicing of HPV18 pre-mRNAs is subject to regulation by viral RNAciselements and host splicing factors and offers potential therapeutic targets to overcome HPV-related cancer.

This review is devoted to examination of the reference book “Apparatus of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks: Its Structure, Functions, and Cadres. July 10, 1948 – October 5, 1952.” Throughout the entire period of the USSR’s existence, it was impossible to study this subject scholarly. Researchers were only aware of the most important figures within party, state, and economic institutions. A great number of people, who prepared policy documents and were daily monitoring their implementation, remained hidden behind the institutions’ signboards. By mid-1920s the USSR was a “party-state” and the apparatus of the Central Committee of the RCP (B)—AUCP (B)—CPSU became essentially its highest institution. Therefore, it is important to study the organization of its activities and the history of functioning and development of its departments. The authors of the reference book have studied the Central Committee apparatus as a notion, as well as its structure, functions, personnel, and periodic restructuring (in 1946, 1948, 1949, 1952) in order to understand the role of the Central Committee apparatus in the political system at its different levels. The first part of the reference book, “The Structure and Staffing of the Central Committee Apparatus” (pp. 41–183), contains detailed information on the staffing and structure of all departments of the Central Committee apparatus, outlining 25 departments and standing commissions, naming their leaders and employees. It should be noted that this is the first time that the structure and leadership of the Technical Secretariat of the Organizational Bureau (Orgburo), Special Sector, Central Committee Administrative Directorate, Party Control Commission, and Central Audit Commission have been detailed. The second part, “Biographical Index of Leading Officials of the Central Committee” (pp. 184–617), contains 577 biographies of all heads of structural divisions of the Central Committee (heads of departments and their deputies, heads of sectors and their deputies, assistants to the Central Committee secretaries). The third part, “Central Committee Apparatus Personnel Summaries for 1948–52,” gives a complete picture of positions and staffing dynamics of the Central Committee apparatus from July 1948 to October 1952 (pp. 618–737). These documents are also being published for the first time. The fourth part, “Documents. Regulations for Departments” (pp. 738–762), contains all relevant Central Committee resolutions (including those from the so-called “Special Folders”) and several memoranda from department heads (Department of Foreign Relations, Department of Personnel of Diplomatic and Foreign Trade Bodies, Foreign Policy Commission of the Central Committee) on powers and functions of the Central Committee departments in 1948–52 (25 documents in total). A series of [Cu(POP)(N^N][PF6] and [Cu(xantphos)(N^N][PF6] compounds has been prepared and characterized in which POP = bis[2-(diphenylphosphanyl)phenyl]ether (IUPAC PIN oxydi(2,1-phenylene)bis(diphenylphosphane), xantphos = 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)-9,9-dimethyl-9H-xanthene (IUPAC PIN (9,9-dimethyl-9H-xanthene- 4,5-diyl)bis(diphenylphosphane)) and the N^N ligands are 4-(4-bromophenyl)-6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′- bipyridine (1), 5,5′-bis(3-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine (2), and 6-benzyl-2,2′-bipyridine (3). The single crystal structures of [Cu(xantphos)(1)][PF6]·CH2Cl2, [Cu(xantphos)(2)][PF6]·CH2Cl2 and [Cu(POP)(3)][PF6]·0.5H2O were determined by X-ray diffraction. Each complex contains a copper(I) ion in a distorted tetrahedral environment with chelating N^N and P^P ligands. In the [Cu(xantphos)(1)]+ and [Cu(xantphos)(2)]+ cations, there are face-to-face π-stackings of bpy and PPh2 phenyl rings (i.e., between the ligands); in addition in [Cu(xantphos)(2)][PF6]·CH2Cl2, inter-cation π-embraces lead to the formation of infinite chains as a primary packing motif. In [Cu(POP)(3)][PF6]·0.5H2O, centrosymmetric pairs of [Cu(POP)(3)]+ cations engage in C–H…π (phenyl to bpy) and offset face-to-face (bpy…bpy) contacts. The electrochemical and photophysical properties of the compounds containing ligands 1 and 2 are reported. They are green or yellow emitters in the solid-state (λem in the range 535–577 nm) with values for the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) in the range 19%–41%.

Среди разнообразных препаратов, применяемых в растениеводстве, высоким спросом пользуются экологически безопасные, полученные из природного растительного сырья стимуляторы, проявляющие комплексное защитно-стимулирующее воздействие на растения. Представлен анализ экспериментальных данных, демонстрирующих рациональность применения регулятора роста растений Циркон на разных цветочно-декоративных культурах (ирисы, хосты, нарциссы) в условиях Башкирского Предуралья. Показано, что эффективность влияния препарата в концентрации 0,1 мл/л варьирует в зависимости от видовой и сортовой специфики растений. Наибольший прирост вегетативных и генеративных органов отмечен на ирисах. Выявлено увеличение параметров листьев цветоносов и вегетативных побегов по длине на 21,9 и 20,3 % и ширине на 40,9 и 38,6 % соответственно, ширины и длины: фола — на 9,7 и 9,9 %, стандарта цветка — на 38 и 5,5 % соответственно по сравнению с контролем у большинства таксонов. Для нарциссов эффективность применяемого препарата оказалась ниже. Стимулирующий эффект отмечен только у некоторых сортов на следующих параметрах: высота растения и цветоноса — на 7,5 и 6,6 % соответственно, длина и ширина листьев — на 6,6 и 15,1 % соответственно. Препарат практически не оказал влияния на морфометрические параметры листьев хост, но улучшил декоративность их соцветий. Увеличилось количество цветков на цветоносе на 42 %, длина и диаметр цветка — на 4,1 и 5,6 % соответственно. Выявлено существенное влияние на генеративную сферу интродуцентов. Значительное увеличение таких показателей, как плодообразование (на 28–60,4 % по сравнению с контролем) и семенная продуктивность растений может иметь значение для селекционных и иных практических целей.

The aim of the research was to observe consumer perceptions of 3D food printing and to highlight possible applications of this production. The questionnaire survey took place in the Czech Republic and was attended by 1156 respondents. The questionnaire was divided into six sections: (1) Socio-Demographic Data; (2) 3D Common Printing Awareness; (3) 3D Food Printing Awareness; (4) 3D Food Printing, Worries and Understanding; (5) Application; (6) Investments. Although awareness of 3D food printing is increasing, a very small fraction of respondents had encountered printed food in person (1.5%; n = 17). Respondents expressed concerns about the health benefits and the reduced prices of novel foods, and they perceived printed foods as ultra-processed foods (56.0%; n = 647). Concerns have also been raised about job losses due to the introduction of new technology. On the contrary, they perceived that quality raw materials would be used to prepare printed foods (52.4%; n = 606). Most respondents believed that printed foods would be visually appealing and would find application in several food industry sectors. Most respondents believed that 3D food printing is the future of the food sector (83.8%; n = 969). The gained results can be helpful for 3D food printer producers, as well as for future experiments dealing with 3D food printing issues.

Insulin stimulates the autophosphorylation of the partially purified insulin receptor initially on tyrosine residues 1146, 1150 and 1151. This is followed by increased autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues 1316, 1322 and two further residues, possibly tyrosine residues 953 and 960 or 972 [Tavaré & Denton (1988) Biochem. J. 252, 607-615]. In the present paper we have used two cell lines transfected with insulin-receptor cDNA (CHO.T and NIH 3T3 HIR3.5 cells) to assess which tyrosine residues are phosphorylated on the insulin receptor within intact cells. We show that: (1) insulin causes a rapid increase in phosphorylation of tyrosine residues 1146, 1150 and 1151 in both cell types; tyrosine residues 1316 and 1322 are also phosphorylated, but apparently to a lesser extent in NIH 3T3 HIR3.5 cells; (2) the sites that may correspond to tyrosine residues 953 and 960 or 972 appear to be very poorly phosphorylated in both intact cell types; (3) insulin also promotes a substantial and rapid increase in the phosphorylation of serine and threonine residues on insulin receptors on CHO.T cells; this results in the appearance of two phosphopeptides not evident in the maps of the solubilized receptor preparations autophosphorylated in vitro.

: : To find out the level of visual improvement and the time it takes in amblyopia of any severity. : To find out whether the level of visual improvement is influenced by a patient's age at presentation. : To note whether the level of visual recovery is influenced by previous amblyopia therapy. To note any regression of visual acuity with time after initial improvement by therapy. To note complications of full-time occlusion therapy, especially occlusion amblyopia.: In a prospective interventional study, 1701 consecutive cases with poor vision were included irrespective of a patient’s age. After wearing refractive correction for 8-12 weeks and no further improvement in the BCVA, amblyopia therapy was started comprising of full-time patching of the good eye along with active use of the amblyopic eye by reading and writing at least 6 hours daily. Regular two weekly follow-ups were conducted. The endpoint of therapy was achieving a BCVA equal to that of the good eye. A regular post-patching follow-up was conducted for 1-3 years. Statistical analysis comparing the visual acuity at the start and the end of therapy was performed by a paired t-test for each group. : There were 896 male and 805 female cases. 1383 cases (81.3%) had previously failed amblyopia therapy. 49 cases (2.9%) dropped out of the study due to poor compliance with therapy or an incomplete follow-up. For a simplified analysis of results, the 1701 cases were divided into three age groups: Group A: age 4-7 years (473 cases), Group B: age 8-12 years (618 cases) and Group C: age 13-46 years (610 cases). The overall success in Group A and B cases was 98% and 96.9% in Group C cases. Full visual recovery is possible in amblyopia of any severity and age. The age of a patient at presentation should not preclude therapy.

Abstract In recent years, biopolymers have been widely used in various fields of medicine. Before using any polymer, its biocompatibility should be examined. Polyacrylic acid (PAA), a polyelectrolyte, is known to be used as an adjuvant effect in immunology, anti-thrombogenic effect in medical experiments, and as a carrier in drug delivery systems. Although there are studies on various conjugates and nanoparticles of PAA, studies on its toxicity alone are limited. Determination of toxicity in biopolymer studies is extremely important. Cultures of various cells are used for toxicity analyses. This study aimed to investigate the toxicity of PAA in human breast cancer (MCF-7) and mouse fibroblast (L-929) cell lines by various methods. Cell culture, 3-(4,5-dimethyltriazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), trypan blue and 4,6-diamidino 2 phenylindole (DAPI) methods were used in the study. The half-maximal effective concentration (EC50) value of PAA was 6.6 mg/ml in MCF 7 cells and 1.8 mg/ ml in L-929 cells. Apoptosis was observed in cells on the increasing PAA concentration with DAPI. With these results, the cytotoxic properties of PAA were determined in vitro. Accordingly, the biocompatibility of polymers to be used in modeling should be supported by in vitro and in vivo studies.

Thermal destruction of Streptococcus faecium var. casseliflavus (SFC) at 57°C in autoclaved skim milk was determined at several pH values, and when skim milk was inoculated with Pseudomonas fluorescens and incubated 3 d at 10°C plus 4 d at room temperature before SFC was added. The pH values between 6.4 and 6.6 had little effect on heat resistance of SFC. At pH 5.6, however, accelerated thermal destruction occurred in sterile skim milk as compared to skim milk at pH 6.5. (D-values were 4.8 min and 10.2 min, respectively). Presence of large populations (log10 bacterial count = 9.8 to 9.9/ml) of P. fluorescens had a protective effect on SFC (D = 7.6 ± .7 min in skim milk preincubated with P. fluorescens and 6.2 min in skim milk without P. fluorescens).

The effect of in vitro culture on viability of pre-implantation stage embryos in the farmed European polecat was studied, aimed at developing assisted reproductive technology for conservation of endangered mustelids, particularly the European mink (Mustela lutreola). Embryo storage in culture would enable embryo recovery and transfer in different locations. Ferret (Mustela putorius furo) kits have been produced from embryos that were cultured for 3 days in serum-containing medium (Li et al. 2001 Reproduction 122, 611–618). In our earlier studies, polecat embryos were maintained for 24 h in culture conditions (Lindeberg et al. 2003 Theriogenology 60, 965–970). Fourteen estrous donors were kept in the same cage with a fertile male overnight and sacrificed 3 days after the start of mating for recovery of embryos from the oviducts. Embryos were flushed with Emcare™ Complete ultra flushing medium (ICPBio, Auckland, New Zealand), washed twice in it, washed once in Emcare™ embryo holding solution and transported in the holding solution at room temperature for 1 h to the laboratory. Embryos of seven donors were pooled and cultured in 30-μL drops of TCM199 + glutamax I (GIBCO™) supplemented with fatty acid-free albumin (FAFBSA, Sigma-Aldrech, Helsinki, Finland) under a cover of paraffin oil (Medicult) for 3 days in a humidified atmosphere (39°C) and in 5% of O2. At the end of the culture, the embryos were evaluated and the ones that had developed at least to morula stage were chosen for transfers. The selected embryos were transported at room temperature in Emcare™ embryo holding solution for 1 h to the farm where they were surgically transferred under general anesthesia into seven recipients. The recipients had been mated the same way as the donors but with vasectomized males either on the same day as the donors (the first set: 7 donors, 3 recipients) or one day later than the donors (the second set: 7 donors, 4 recipients). Five embryos were cultured a total of 6 days to the blastocyst stage and stained for a count of cell numbers. A total number of 169 one- to 16-cell-stage embryos were recovered. At the end of the 3-day culture period, a total of 139 (139/169, 82%) had developed to morula (56.6%), compact morula (9.8%), early blastocyst (30.3%), or blastocyst stage (3.3%). Of these 139 embryos, a total of 102 were surgically transferred. Five of the 7 recipients delivered one to 5 kits each 43 to 45 days after the mating. Altogether 21 kits were born and the success rate was 21% (21 kits/102 transferred embryos). Cell numbers of the five Day 6 blastocysts varied from 130 to 430. In conclusion, this preliminary trial confirms that polecat embryos can be stored in culture for 3 days. In this study polecat embryos were cultured in 5% oxygen and without addition of serum which resulted in considerably better cell numbers for Day 6 blastocysts than in our earlier studies (90 to 165 cells; Lindeberg et al. 2003 Theriogenology 60, 965–970).

Myelopathies, the disorders affecting the spinal cord, are classified into traumatic or non-traumatic. In dogs, intervertebral disc disease (IVD) is the most common cause of spinal pain and neurological deficits. The aim of the current study is to present the prevalence, clinical presentation, diagnosis and outcome of non-traumatic myelopathies of various etiologies, in dogs. This was a retrospective study in dogs. The inclusion criteria for the dog population included complete clinical records of the cases (physical, neurological examination, clinicopathological and/or diagnostic imaging), therapy, outcome and re-examinations. A total of 618 dogs were included in the study with a mean age of 6 years and a mean body weight of 12Kg. The neurological deficits appeared acutely in 346 dogs (56%).Paraplegia (201/618, 32.5%), paraparesis (144/618, 23.3%) were the most frequent neurological deficits, followed by spinal pain (61/618, 9.9%). In the majority of cases the lesions (374/618, 60.5%) were localized in the thoracolumbar spinal cord segments. Degenerative disc disease was the predominant diagnosis in the study population (212 dogs, 62.5%), followed by neoplasia (10%), congenital anomalies (6.2%), myelitis (5.9%) and, less frequently, discospondylitis (4.1%), caudal cervical spondylomyelopathy (3.8%) and meningitis (3%). There were few cases with extradural synovial cysts (2.1%), congenital myelopathies (1.2%), Chiari like malformation (0.9%). Regarding outcome, 476/618 (77%) dogs were alive at the end of the study. From the 476 dogs that were still alive, 278/476 dogs (58.4%) improved neurologically, 120/476 dogs (25.2%) were neurologically stable, 22/476 dogs (4.6%) deteriorated. Degenerative disc disease was the most common diagnosis in dogs admitted with paraparesis/ paraplegia. Myelography could diagnose secondary spinal compression caused by disc protrusion/ extrusion or any other cause. Corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) were used commonly by the referring veterinarian in case a compressive myelopathy was suspected. Prognosis in dogs with degenerative disc disease type II is favorable when therapy was started soon after the clinical sign’s onset and the deep pain sensation was intact.

This study aims to obtain a combination treatment of NPK inorganic fertilizer with the best Bioneensis bioorganic fertilizer to support the growth of cocoa seedlings. This study used a one-factor Complete Randomized Design. The treatment design tested was Bioneensis bioorganic fertilizer and NPK fertilizer with 5 levels of dosage and 3 replications. as follows: b0 : Control, b1 : 7.5 g NPK fertilizer, b2 : 9.9 g Bioneensis fertilizer, b3 : 5 g NPK fertilizer (66.7% of b1) + 3.3 g of Bioneensis fertilizer (33.7% of b2), and b4: 2.5 g NPK fertilizer (33.7% of b1) + 6.6 g of Bioneensis fertilizer (66.7% of b2). and b4: 2.5 g NPK fertilizer (33.7% of b1) + 6.6 g of Bioneensis fertilizer (66.7% of b2). Implementation of research in the form of land preparation and shade, preparation of planting media, seedling preparation, feeding, treatment, and maintenance of plants. Plant height, stem diameter, header dry weight, root dry weight, root crown ratio, and quality index are the parameters that are measured. The results of this study concluded that treatment of 2.5 g of NPK fertilizer combined with 6.6 g of Bioneensis biofertilizer will increase plant height by 60.10%, rod diameter by 43.86%, The dry weight of the header was 183.31%, the dry weight of the roots was 229.41%, and the quality index was 189.20% compared to the control.

Для выявления характера взаимосвязи спортивного анамнеза лиц, практиковавших в прошлом интенcивные физические нагрузки, и выявленных у них нарушений ритма сердца и внутрисердечной проводимости был проведен ретроспективный анализ медицинских документов 39 мужчинветеранов спорта (средний возраст - 61,6±11,3 года, средняя длительность постспортивного периода - 23,9±17,3 года, средний стаж соревновательной деятельности - 20,1±9,9 года), имеющих установленные сердечно-сосудистые заболевания. Проведено скрининговое обследование на предмет нарушений ритма и проводимости сердца, эхокардиографическое исследование. Выявлено, что распространенность устойчивых пароксизмов фибрилляции предсердий составила 42% в совокупной выборке, увеличиваясь с повышением уровня спортивной квалификации. Желудочковые нарушения ритма высокой градации выявлены у 14% обследованных. Лишь три параметра были достоверно связаны с риском нарушений ритма у ветеранов спорта: уровень спортивной квалификации, наличие генерализованного атеросклероза (антириск-фактор), возраст. Риск нарушений ритма у ветеранов спорта на 43% определяется указанными факторами. Был предложен алгоритм скрининга нарушений ритма у ветеранов спорта на основе клинических данных. Необходимы дальнейшие проспективные наблюдения для валидации алгоритма. In order to analyze the relationship between the athletic qualification and syndrome of cardiac rhythm and conductivity disturbances in former athletes, a retrospective analysis of medical records of 39 male former athletes with cardiovascular complaints (mean age 61,6±11,3 years, mean duration of career in sports 23,9±17,3 years, mean duration of post-athletic period 20,1±9,9 years) was carried out. The patients were screened for cardiac arrhythmias and underwent echocardiography. The overall prevalence of sustained paroxysms of atrial fibrillation was 42%, increasing with the athletic qualification. Ryan grade 4 b -5 premature ventricular contractions were found in 14% of patients. 3 parameters were found to be the independent predictors of arrhythmias in former athletes, i. e. athletic qualification, multifocal atherosclerosis (as an anti-risk factor), and age. The coefficient of determinance for the created prognostic model reached 43%. Further prospective studies are needed to validate an algorithm.

Abstract. Phenological records in historical documents have been proven to be of unique value for reconstructing past climate changes. As a literary genre, poetry reached its peak in the Tang and Song dynasties (618–1279 CE) in China. Sources from this period could provide abundant phenological records in the absence of phenological observations. However, the reliability of phenological records from poems, as well as their processing methods, remains to be comprehensively summarized and discussed. In this paper, after introducing the certainties and uncertainties of phenological information in poems, the key processing steps and methods for deriving phenological records from poems and using them in past climate change studies are discussed: (1) two principles, namely the principle of conservatism and the principle of personal experience, should be followed to reduce uncertainties; (2) the phenological records in poems need to be filtered according to the types of poems, background information, rhetorical devices, spatial representations, and human influence; (3) animals and plants are identified at the species level according to their modern distributions and the sequences of different phenophases; (4) phenophases in poems are identified on the basis of modern observation criteria; (5) the dates and sites for the phenophases in poems are confirmed from background information and related studies. As a case study, 86 phenological records from poems of the Tang Dynasty in the Guanzhong region in China were extracted to reconstruct annual temperature anomalies in specific years in the period between 600 and 900 CE. Following this, the reconstruction from poems was compared with relevant reconstructions in published studies to demonstrate the validity and reliability of phenological records from poems in studies of past climate changes. This paper reveals that the phenological records from poems could be useful evidence of past climate changes after being scientifically processed. This could provide an important reference for future studies in this domain, in both principle and methodology, pursuant of extracting and applying phenological records from poems for larger areas and different periods in Chinese history.

Introduction and aim: Cirrhotic patients with hepatitis C virus genotype 3 infection show unsatisfactory outcomes after 12 weeks’ treatment with direct antiviral agents. The National Italian Drug Agency allows 24 weeks of therapy in difficult-to-treat patients, including genotype 3 cirrhotics . Aim of this study was to evaluate efficacy and safety of a 24-week course of sofosbuvir plus daclatasvir±ribavirin in this population. Materials and methods: 106 consecutive cirrhotics (70.8% males, mean age 55.3±7.6 years) in 8 tertiary hepatology centers received sofosbuvir plus daclatasvir for 24 weeks. Ribavirin was administered in 85 (80.2%) based expected tolerability, at a mean dose of 964±202 mg/day. Baseline Child-Pugh class was A 91.5%, B 6.6%, C 1.9%; mean baseline MELD was 8.5±2.7. Results: All patients completed 12-week follow-up post-treatment, and 104 (98.1%) obtained sustained virologcal response (100% in ribavirin -treated patients vs 90.4% without ribavirin; p=0.04). No worsening in renal and liver function was observed, no serious adverse events occurred. Two virological failures showed resistance associated variants (Y93H and S282T). Conclusion: An extended 24-week treatment with sofosbuvir plus daclatasvir+ribavirin obtained 100% efficacy in genotype 3 hepatitis C cirrhosis, with very limited side effects. The role of ribavirin seems crucial in this setting and should be administered if clinically feasible.

Roots of honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis), pin oak (Quercus palustris), tuliptree (Liriodendron tulipifera), and green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) trees were severed at the root flare and 1, 2, or 3 m (3.3, 6.6, and 9.9 ft) from the trunk. After 5 years, the severed roots were excavated and all discolored and decayed portions were removed. The furthest extent of decay development ranged between 4.5 cm (1.8 in) in green ash and 10.8 cm (4.3 in) in honeylocust. The furthest extent of discoloration also varied between 6.3 cm (2.5 in) in green ash and 77.1 cm (30.8 in) in honeylocust. The root severing location producing the greatest decay or discoloration varied among species. Natural defect development as a result of severing roots of any size root at any distance is not likely to result in a threat to the health or stability of a tree.

Tetrahydro-1H-benzo[b]azonin-2,7-dione (2a) has been used as a precursor in the synthesis of dibenzo[ b,f ][1,5]diazacyclododecene and dibenzo[b,g][1,6]diazacyclododecene ring systems 4 and 5, respectively, via periodate oxidation of the appropriate indolo-benzo[b]azonines 3 and 7. The synthesis of hexahydro-benzo[b][1,4]diazecin-2,7-dione (10) has been achieved by the Schmidt reaction of 2a. The periodate oxidation of 9,9´-methylenebis(2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-carbazole) (11) afforded 1,1´- methylenebis(3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[b]azonin-2,7-dione) (12). Its 6,6´-methylenebis isomer 13 was obtained by treating 2a with formaldehyde. Oxidation of 16 gave the unsymmetrical bi(benzo [b]azonine) 17.The Mannich reaction of 2a led to a mixture of its 6-methylene derivative 19 and the spirocyclic system 20. The reactions of 2a with aldimines and aromatic aldehydes were also investigated.

This work reports the synthesis and characterization of a conjugated polymer based on fluorene and terpyridine, namely, poly[(9,9-bis(3-((S)-2-methylbutylpropanoate))fluorene-alt-6,6′-(2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridin-6-yl)] (LaPPS71). The structure was characterized by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The molar mass was measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). As thermal characterization, the glass transition temperature (Tg) was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymer structure contains two sites capable of complexation with metallic ions, affording the possibility of obtainment of independent or electronically coupled properties, depending on the complexation site. The photophysical properties were fully explored in solution and solid state, presenting ideal results for the preparation of various metallopolymers, in addition to potential application as a metamaterial, due to the presence of the chiral center in the side chains of the polymer.

Object The authors conducted a study to investigate the rate and timing of reoperation due to symptom recurrence after unilateral posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF). Methods The authors retrospectively reviewed demographic, surgical, and clinical data from 151 patients who underwent unilateral PCF at their institution with an average follow-up of 4.15 years. The main outcome variables were reoperation rate, time to reoperation, and short- and long-term radiculopathy improvement rates. Kaplan-Meier analyses were conducted to assess risk of reoperation and recurrence of radiculopathy over time. Results After index PCF in 151 patients, the overall reoperation rate was 9.9% (15 patients). The average time until reoperation was 2.4 years, and the average last follow-up examination was 4.15 years after the first surgery. Patients who presented with preoperative neck pain in addition to radiculopathy had a higher risk for reoperation and a shorter time to reoperation. The majority of patients who underwent a reoperation had an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (80%). A smaller number of patients had reoperation that included a repeat PCF (6.7%) or laminectomy with posterior cervical fusion (13.3%). The rate of same-level reoperation (6.6%, 10 patients) was significantly higher (p = 0.05) when compared with adjacent-segment (1.3%, 2 patients) or distant-segment (1.9%, 3 patients) reoperation. At last follow-up, the overall rate of improvement in radiculopathy was 85%, with the majority of patients (91.4%) experiencing resolution as early as 1 month after index surgery. Following the subgroup that experienced initial symptom improvement, 16.1% of these patients experienced radiculopathy recurrence an average of 7.3 years after the initial operation. While the reoperation rate for the overall cohort in this series was 9.9%, patients with follow-up periods longer than 2 years had a reoperation rate of 18.3%. Moreover, patients with more than 10 years of follow-up had a reoperation rate of 24.3%. Conclusions PCF is a procedure performed to address nerve root compression in the cervical spine. The authors evaluated 151 patients who underwent unilateral PCF and found a reoperation rate of 9.9% at an average of 2.4 years after the initial surgery (6.6% at same level, 3.3% elsewhere). The reoperation rates reached 18.3% and 24.3% in patients with follow-up periods longer than 2 and 10 years, respectively. The authors' analysis revealed that patients with no preoperative neck pain had the lowest rates of revision surgery after PCF.

Abstract Frailty may differentially impact how older adult males and females perceive sexual functioning, an important part of well-being. We assessed the level of frailty (robust, pre-frail, frail) for anyone with data on 11 sexual functioning questions asked in wave 2 of the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, 2010-2011 (n=2060). Questions covered five domains: overall sexual function (OSF), sexual function anxiety (SFA), changes in sexual function (CSF), erectile/vaginal dysfunction (EVD), and masturbation. Logistic regression identified sex differences in frailty and reporting worse sexual functioning. Linear regression predicted the number of domains reported as worse. Among males (n=1057), pre-frailty meant higher odds of reporting SFA (OR 1.8 95%CI 1.2-6.6), CSF (OR 1.7 95%CI 1.1-2.7), and EVD (OR 1.5 95%CI 1.0-2.2). Among females (n=1003), there was no difference in reporting by frailty. Females were more likely to report worse OSF (Robust: OR 7.4, 95%CI 4.8-11.4; Pre-frail: OR 6.2, 95%CI 3.9-9.9; Frail: OR 3.4 95%CI 1.7-6.6), but less likely to report SFA (Robust OR .3, 95%CI .2-.5; Pre-frail OR .2, 95%CI .1-.3; Frail OR .2 95%CI .1-.3). Pre-frail and frail females reported fewer domains as worse (Pre-frail coefficient -0.21 SE 0.09, Frail -0.43 SE 0.14). As frailty worsened, males reported more domains as worse (Pre-frail 0.24 SE 0.07, Frail 0.29 SE 0.08). Self-reported sexual functioning differs by sex at all levels of frailty, and reporting by males, but not females, changes with frailty. Providers should be aware that sexual functioning is of importance to both sexes despite varying degrees of frailty.
