Abstract:
Abstract By reaction of zinc chloride and zinc bromide with hexamethylenetetramine in water/methanol crystals of the adducts ZnCl2 • C6H12N4 and ZnBr2 • C6H12N4, resp. were obtained. The compounds are isotypic, they crystallize in the orthorhombic space group P21am (non-standard setting of space group Pmc21, No. 26), Z = 2. The lattice parameters of the zinc chloride adduct are a = 1168.0(4), b = 685.7(4), and c = 601.1(4) pm, of the zinc bromide adduct a - 1188.9(6), b = 721.5(5), and c = 602.3(4) pm. The adducts are polymeric, they form parallel chains in the crystal. The zinc atoms are bonded to two halogen atoms and, via nitrogen atoms, to two hexamethylenetetramine molecules, which act as bidentate ligands. The coordination of the zinc atoms is approximately tetrahedral

Abstract:
Background: Decreased insulin clearance could be a relatively upstream abnormality in obesity, metabolic syndrome, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Previous studies have shown that sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) increases insulin–C-peptide ratio, a marker of insulin clearance, and improves metabolic parameters. We evaluated the effects of the SGLT2i tofogliflozin on metabolic clearance rate of insulin (MCRI) with a hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp study, the gold standard for measuring systemic insulin clearance. Methods: Study participants were 12 Japanese men with type 2 diabetes. We evaluated MCRI and tissue-specific insulin sensitivity with a hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp (insulin infusion rate, 40 mU/m2·min) before and immediately after a single dose (n = 12) and 8 weeks (n = 9) of tofogliflozin. We also measured ectopic fat in muscle and liver and the abdominal fat area using 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging, respectively, before and after 8 weeks of tofogliflozin. Results: MCRI did not change after a single dose of tofogliflozin (594.7 ± 67.7 mL/min·m2 and 608.3 ± 90.9 mL/min·m2, p = 0.61) or after 8 weeks (582.5 ± 67.3 mL/min·m2 and 602.3 ± 67.0 mL/min·m2, p = 0.41). The 8-week treatment significantly improved glycated hemoglobin and decreased body weight (1.7%) and the subcutaneous fat area (6.4%), whereas insulin sensitivity and ectopic fat in muscle and liver did not change significantly. Conclusions: MCRI did not change after a single dose or 8 weeks of tofogliflozin. Increased MCRI does not precede a decrease in body fat or improved glycemic control.

Abstract:
Purpose: To compare the characteristics and learning curve of the transfemoral approach (TFA) vs the transradial approach (TRA) for cerebral angiography. Materials and Methods: Between February 2016 and April 2017, 101 patients undergoing cerebral angiography were enrolled. Fifty-one patients (mean age 67 years; 40 men) were randomized to TFA and 50 (mean age 68 years; 41 men) to TRA using a computer-generated random table. The patients’ demographic and angiographic data were recorded and analyzed. The learning curve of a novice interventionist was analyzed for procedure time, puncture time, fluoroscopy time, and contrast volume as markers of technical proficiency with TFA compared with TRA. Median values are given with the interquartile range (IQR). Results: Procedure time [35 (IQR 30, 47.5) vs 31.0 (IQR 25.0, 48.9) minutes, p=0.16), fluoroscopy time [10.3 (IQR 7.6, 13.9) vs 9.4 (IQR 6.1, 17.6) minutes, p=0.70], contrast volume [105 (IQR 92, 120) vs 95.5 (IQR 90, 111.3) mL, p=0.13), radiation exposure [390.2 (IQR 268.2, 617.9) vs 455.8 (IQR 286.8, 602.3) mGy, p=0.74], and the number of catheter exchanges [1 (IQR 1, 3) vs 1 (IQR 1, 1), p=0.06] were not significantly different between the TFA and TRA groups, respectively, but puncture time was shorter with TFA than with TRA [0.6 (IQR 0.5, 1.1) vs 1 (IQR 0.6, 1.9) minutes, p=0.01]. The learning curve was steeper with TRA than with TFA in the beginning stages of training, but with increasing experience, the procedure and fluoroscopy times were better for TRA than for TFA. Training progress was made earlier in TRA. Conclusion: TRA is a reasonable alternative to TFA for cerebral angiography. TRA has a shorter learning curve for novice interventionists.

Abstract:
Background Quercetin (Qr), isoquercitrin (IQ), and quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronide (QG) are powerful phytochemicals that have been shown to exhibit disease prevention and health promotion properties. However, there may exist transformations between Qr, IQ, and QG in vivo. And the pharmacokinetic profiles of Qr, IQ, and QG have not been systematically compared. The pharmacokinetics study would be helpful to better understand the pharmacological actions of them. Methods Herein, we developed a reliable HPLC-MS method to compare the pharmacokinetics of Qr, IQ, and QG after separate (50 mg/kg) oral administration of them in rats, using puerarin as internal standard. The detection was performed using negative selected ion monitoring. This method was validated in terms of selectivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, extraction recovery, matrix effect, and stability; and shows reliabilities in monitoring the pharmacokinetic behaviors of these three compounds. Results Our results showed that after separate oral administration of Qr, IQ, and QG, all of the compounds could be detected in plasma. In addition, QG could be detected in the Qr group; Qr and QG could be measured in the IQ group; and Qr could be found in rat plasma after 1.5 h of QG administration. Moreover, the AUC0−t of Qr in the; Qr group (2,590.5 ± 987.9 mg/L*min), IQ group (2,212.7 ± 914.1 mg/L*min), and QG group (3,505.7 ± 1,565.0 mg/L*min) was larger than the AUC0−t of QG in the; Qr group (1,550.0 ± 454.2 mg/L*min), IQ group (669.3 ± 188.3 mg/L*min), and QG group (962.7 ± 602.3 mg/L*min). The AUC0−t of IQ was the lowest among all groups. Discussion Quercetin, IQ, and QG can all be absorbed into plasma. A mutual transformation exists between Qr and QG, and IQ can be metabolized into Qr and QG in SD rats. These results would provide a meaningful basis for understanding the pharmacological actions of these three compounds.

"Effectiveness of endoscopic surgery for supratentorial hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage: a comparison with craniotomy." Journal of Neurosurgery 128, no. 2 (February 2018): 553–59. http://dx.doi.org/10.3171/2016.10.jns161589.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVEThe goal of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and practicality of endoscopic surgery for treatment of supratentorial hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH) compared with traditional craniotomy.METHODSThe authors retrospectively analyzed 151 consecutive patients who were operated on for treatment of supratentorial HICH between January 2009 and June 2014 in the Department of Neurosurgery at Chinese PLA General Hospital. Patients were separated into an endoscopy group (82 cases) and a craniotomy group (69 cases), depending on the surgery they received. The hematoma evacuation rate was calculated using 3D Slicer software to measure the hematoma volume. Comparisons of operative time, intraoperative blood loss, Glasgow Coma Scale score 1 week after surgery, hospitalization time, and modified Rankin Scale score 6 months after surgery were also made between these groups.RESULTSThere was no statistically significant difference in preoperative data between the endoscopy group and the craniotomy group (p > 0.05). The hematoma evacuation rate was 90.5% ± 6.5% in the endoscopy group and 82.3% ± 8.6% in the craniotomy group, which was statistically significant (p < 0.01). The operative time was 1.6 ± 0.7 hours in the endoscopy group and 5.2 ± 1.8 hours in the craniotomy group (p < 0.01). The intraoperative blood loss was 91.4 ± 93.1 ml in the endoscopy group and 605.6 ± 602.3 ml in the craniotomy group (p < 0.01). The 1-week postoperative Glasgow Coma Scale score was 11.5 ± 2.9 in the endoscopy group and 8.3 ± 3.8 in the craniotomy group (p < 0.01). The hospital stay was 11.6 ± 6.9 days in the endoscopy group and 13.2 ± 7.9 days in the craniotomy group (p < 0.05). The mean modified Rankin Scale score 6 months after surgery was 3.2 ± 1.5 in the endoscopy group and 4.1 ± 1.9 in the craniotomy group (p < 0.01). Patients had better recovery in the endoscopy group than in the craniotomy group. Data are expressed as the mean ± SD.CONCLUSIONSCompared with traditional craniotomy, endoscopic surgery was more effective, less invasive, and may have improved the prognoses of patients with supratentorial HICH. Endoscopic surgery is a promising method for treatment of supratentorial HICH. With the development of endoscope technology, endoscopic evacuation will become more widely used in the clinic. Prospective randomized controlled trials are needed.

Abstract:
Absorptions commencing at 602.6 nm are detected following deposition of mass-selected C7H4+ in a 6 K neon matrix produced from a 1 : 1 mixture of diacetylene and propyne in an ion source. The 602.6 nm system, and a weaker one near 421.1 nm, are assigned to the A 2E ← X 2E and B 2E ← X 2E electronic transitions of methyltriacetylene cation (C3V symmetry), based on mass-selection, spectroscopic analysis of the vibrational structure, and the excitation energies calculated with CASPT2. Structured fluorescence is detected in the 600–760 nm range upon laser excitation at wavelengths of the CH3C6H+ absorptions. The vibrational bands observed in the absorption and fluorescence spectra are assigned with the aid of calculated frequencies of the totally symmetric (a1) vibrations of methyltriacetylene cation.

Materials Science Forum 952 (April 2019): 82–91. http://dx.doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/msf.952.82.

Full text
Abstract:
In order to study the pre-straining and natural aging effects on the age-hardening response of EN AW 6082 and EN AW 6023 aluminium alloys during artificial aging at 170°C, the pre-straining by 5% was performed immediately after solution treatment of alloys at 550°C and subsequent quenching. The age-hardening response during artificial aging applied after various natural aging time (from 0.1 to 5 000 hours) was investigated using Vickers microhardness measurements and transmission electron microscopy characterization. It was found that pre-straining of quenched alloys state caused a dislocation density increasing in solid solution, which resulted in an immediate microhardness increase of alloys. During the subsequent natural aging of EN AW 6082 alloy, its microhardness increased right after alloy quenching and pre-straining, but only to the values obtained for the unstrained alloy state. On the contrary, the hardness of pre-straining EN AW 6023 alloy that is alloyed by Sn did not increase either after 10 hours of natural aging. This phenomenon is attributed to the effect of Sn on suppression of the strengthening clusters formation. The hardness of alloys increased greatly during artificial aging after pre-straining and natural aging due to accelerating the formation of coherent β″-phase particles. The negative effect of natural aging on the maximum age-hardening response obtained during alloys artificial aging had been observed for most of the pre-strained and naturally aged alloys states, with exception of EN AW 6023 alloy states that were pre-strained and shortly naturally aged (up to 100 hours).

Abstract:
High dielectric strength of solid electrical insulation materials for high voltage applications is essential for high reliability and long-term performance. The IEC 60243 and ASTM D149 both describe very similar test methods to determine the short-term electric strength of solid insulation materials. A test sample, usually thin plaque, is placed in an electrode system with surrounding insulating oil. The voltage is then steadily increased until an electric breakdown occurs. Despite the relatively simple test setup, testing materials with high electric strength can be difficult. The breakdown channel is often located outside the active testing area of the electrodes and found at the electrode edge at the triple point between the electrode, test object, and surrounding oil.In this study, we have investigated different possibilities to control the electrical field enhancement in the vicinity of the electrode edges using silicone rubber, field grading silicone rubber, and a high permittivity oil. The testing was performed with semi-spherical electrodes and electrodes as recommended in IEC 60243 on polyethylene films. Electrodes covered with the field grading rubber increased the short-term breakdown strength compared to standard testing without modification. The high permittivity oil and silicone rubber seemed to have limited effect on the breakdown strength.

A typical process was developed to manufacture Cu-Cr-Zr-Mg alloy bars with high strength and high electrical conductivity. The microstructure and properties of the alloys were investigated by observations of optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and measurements of tensile strength and electrical conductivity. The results showed that the process and thermo mechanical treatments were successfully developed to manufacture Cu-Cr-Zr-Mg alloy bars with good combinations of the ultimate tensile strength (602.5 MPa) and conductivity (85.4% IACS). The achievement of high strength and high electrical conductivity in the alloy could be ascribed to the interactions of strain hardening and precipitation hardening.

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) copolymers containg photocrosslinkable comonomer were obtained by the free-radical suspension copolymerization of Ultraviolet photocrosslinkable comonomer (UPC), methyl acrylate (MA) and acrylonitrile (AN) that was carried out in DMSO/H2O using redox as initiator in which have a typical composition of AN/MA/UPC in the mole ratio of 84/15/1. It was shown that MA was found to be suitable for enabling the melt processing of PAN. The ultraviolet sensitivity of UPC moiety improves the ultraviolet crosslinkability of the precursor fibers, as a result, the melt spun precursor fibers after ultraviolet irradiated can be oxidatively stabilized at 310 oC without melting and subsequently carbonized. The resultant carbon fibers with tensile strength of 602.2±151.3 MPa and modulus of 7.32±0.78 GPa were obtained.

Abstract:
Pomelo peel waste-derived porous carbon (PPPC) was prepared by a facile one-step ZnCl2 activation method. The preparation parameters of PPPC were the mass ratio of ZnCl2 to pomelo peel of 2:1, carbonization temperature of 500 °C, and carbonization time of 1 h. This obtained PPPC possessed abundant macro-,meso-, and micro-porous structures, and a large specific surface area of 939.4 m2 g−1. Surprisingly, it had excellent adsorption ability for methylene blue, including a high adsorption capacity of 602.4 mg g−1 and good reusability. The adsorption isotherm and kinetic fitted with Langmuir and pseudo-second order kinetic models. This work provides a novel strategy for pomelo peel waste utilization and a potential adsorbent for treating dye wastewater.

Javanese has several variants, one of which is the Javanese spoken by the Samin community, a group of Javanese people who uphold Saminist teachings. This paper discusses the Javanese of the Samin people within the framework of anthropological linguistics, a study of languages in a cultural and social context. The paper addresses two questions: what are the characteristics of the Javanese spoken by the Samin people and why does their Javanese language have such these characteristics. Based on data gathered during extensive fieldwork, it was found that there are at least three characteristics of the Samin community’s Javanese: (i) Samin people tend to speak Javanese at the ngoko level; (ii) they use several specific words/lexicons; and (iii) different attitudes are shown in spoken communication. It seems that these three characteristics are related to their world view, ideology and identity. The Samin people, for example, consider that all people have the same status so there is no need to make these differentiations when speaking. That’s why they tend to speak Javanese at the ngoko level and address others by the same word sedulur, meaning relatives. Likewise, their attitude in speaking, such as leaving a conversation before it becomes a quarrel, reflects their view that a quarrel tends to hurt others so must be avoided. These findings reinforce the view that language is closely related to the speaker’s world view that is, their ideology and identity. The relationship of ideology, language and identity, in the case of the Samin people, seems to be a linear progression. Their ideology influences their language, and then, their language constructs their identity. The study of language in the socio-cultural context of the speakers not only provides a better understanding of the language but also a better understanding of the characteristics of the speakers.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of nanostructured, diamondlike, carbon (DLC) coating and nitrocarburizing on the frictional properties and biocompatibility of orthodontic stainless steel archwires. Materials and Methods: Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition technology was applied to coat DLC films onto the surface of austenitic stainless steel wires, and salt-bath nitrocarburizing technology was employed to achieve surface hardening of other wires. Surface and cross-sectional characteristics, microhardness, modulus of elasticity, friction resistance, corrosion resistance, and cell toxicity of the modified and control wires were analyzed. Results: The surfaces of the DLC-coated and nitrocarburized wires were both smooth and even. Compared with the control, the DLC-coated wires were increased in surface hardness 1.46 times, decreased in elastic modulus, reduced in kinetic friction coefficient by 40.71%, and decreased in corrosion current density by two orders of magnitude. The nitrocarburized wire was increased in surface hardness 2.39 times, exhibited an unchanged elastic modulus, demonstrated a decrease in maximum static friction force of 22.2%, and rose in corrosion current density two orders of magnitude. Cytotoxicity tests revealed no significant toxicity associated with the modified wires. Conclusions: DLC coating and nitrocarburizing significantly improved the surface hardness of the wires, reduced friction, and exhibited good biocompatibility. The nanostructured DLC coating provided excellent corrosion resistance and good elasticity, and while the nitrocarburizing technique substantially improved frictional properties, it reduced the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel wires to a lesser extent.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the quality of information offered for patients seeking information on lingual orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: YouTube™ was searched for videos about lingual orthodontic treatment using the key word “lingual braces” from the Google Trends application. One hundred and four videos were selected to be analyzed from the first 120 results. The video content was evaluated using a 10-point score, which was used for classifying low- and high-content video groups. The video information and quality index (VIQI) was applied to determine the quality of the videos. The Mann-Whitney U-test, Chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis were used, and the Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated for statistical evaluations. Results: We classified 32 videos as high-content and 72 as low-content. Most videos were uploaded by laypeople (58.7%, n = 61). Definition of lingual braces and psychological impact were the most commonly discussed topics (51.0%), followed by speech performance (47.1%), pain (44.2%), tongue soreness (37.5%), and biomechanics (14.4%). Compared to the low-content group, the high-content video group had a significantly higher mean number of views (19,867.41 vs 6720.08, P = .002) and more “likes” (135.88 vs 13.01, P < .001), “dislikes” (4.34 vs 0.81, P < .001), and “comments” (26.28 vs 5.31, P = .002). There was no difference in the total VIQI score between the groups (P = .009). Conclusions: The content of YouTube™ videos for lingual orthodontics was generally incomplete. Most videos mentioned psychological effects, but few videos discussed the biomechanics or procedure. Orthodontists should be aware of the information available on YouTube™.

Abstract:
Made in collaboration with an independent filmmaker and two poets, the documentary-poetry film Bridges <Bosnia 20> presents life in post-conflict Bosnia-Herzegovina, and delivers a clear message: the war in Bosnia is not yet firmly located in the past. Shot through a computer screen, Bridges <Bosnia 20> forces the viewer to witness the war in Bosnia and its aftermath via-the-gaze of an unknown spectator, sitting on an Apple Mac laptop. Through this modern technological distancing, we re-present here images of war in a digital age, question how war is usually packaged and represented on television, and in turn interrogate, through poetry, how war is traditionally remembered and memorialised. In so doing, Bridges <Bosnia 20> leads us to a conclusion, in Srebrenica, in 2015: in order to invest in the possibility of a just future after conflict, it is necessary to acknowledge the unthinkable realities to which traumatic experience bears witness. Abstract:
Background: The prevalence of thrombocytopenia in most studies ranges from 7 to 10% of allpregnant females. Although pregnancy is associated with physiological changes that may affectplatelet count, several pathological conditions can cause thrombocytopenia which have a significantimpact on both the mother and her baby. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of thrombocytopenia in pregnantwomen attending an out-patient clinic in Al-Yarmouk Teaching hospital in Baghdad.Material and Methods: A cross sectional study conducted at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital from1st October 2016 to 1st July 2017. Five hundred sixty pregnant women randomly selected as the studygroup and another 100 non-pregnant women as the control group were enrolled in this study. Acomplete blood count and blood film were done for both the selected groups. Results: Thrombocytopenia was found in 7.1% of the cases. The most common cause ofthrombocytopenia was gestational thrombocytopenia seen in 19(47.5%) patients and PE & HELLPsyndrome 9 (22.5%) patients. Most of our cases were asymptomatic and only one case developedheavy vaginal bleeding while there were 2 cases who had platelets below 50,000 considered as severethrombocytopenia without significant bleeding. Conclusion: Thrombocytopenia is not a rare condition in pregnancy. Accurate etiological diagnosis isessential for effective management. Most of the cases are mild, self-limiting and rarely cause withcomplications
