Abstract:
This article presents the first ever full edition of the fragments of one of the most important documents of ancient Greek religion, the sacrificial calendar of Athens as it was inscribed on stone as part of the revision of Athenian Law in 410/9–405/4 and 403/2–400/399 BC. All these fragments, where they survive, are in Athens (the Agora and Epigraphical Museums). The edition contains many new readings, restorations and interpretative points (in particular the identification of festivals). In addition to a line-by-line commentary, a translation is included and there are explanatory notes on linguistic features, animal and non-animal items listed in the calendar and payments to priests and other officials.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Neuroinflammation is characterized by the elevated expression of various inflammatory proteins, including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), induced by various pro-inflammatory mediators, which play a critical role in neurodegenerative disorders. Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) has been shown to induce the upregulation of MMP-9 through nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX)-reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent signaling pathways. N-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxo-28-noroleana-1,9(11)-dien-17-yl)-2-2-difluoropropanamide (RTA 408), a novel synthetic triterpenoid, has been shown to possess anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in various types of cells. Here, we evaluated the effects of RTA 408 on IL-1β-induced inflammatory responses by suppressing MMP-9 expression in a rat brain astrocyte (RBA-1) line. IL-1β-induced MMP-9 protein and mRNA expression, and promoter activity were attenuated by RTA 408. The increased level of ROS generation in RBA-1 cells exposed to IL-1β was attenuated by RTA 408, as determined by using 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) and CellROX. In addition, the inhibitory effects of RTA 408 on MMP-9 expression resulted from the suppression of the IL-1β-stimulated activation of Pyk2 (proline-rich tyrosine kinase), platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFRβ), Akt, ROS, and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Pretreatment with RTA 408 attenuated the IL-1β-induced c-Jun phosphorylation, mRNA expression, and promoter activity. IL-1β-stimulated nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 phosphorylation, translocation, and promoter activity were also attenuated by RTA 408. Furthermore, IL-1β-induced glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) protein and mRNA expression, and cell migration were attenuated by pretreatment with RTA 408. These results provide new insights into the mechanisms by which RTA 408 attenuates IL-1β-mediated inflammatory responses and exerts beneficial effects for the management of brain diseases.

Abstract:
To test the proposition that sheep are able to select a diet that meets their crude protein (N × 6.25; CP) requirements, feeds L, A, B, C and H with the same energy content (11 MJ metabolizable energy/kg feed) but different CP contents (78, 109, 141, 172 and 235 g CP/kg fresh feed respectively) were formulated. In addition, feed U, which was feed L plus 21.4 g urea/kg (CP content 132 g/kg), was also made. The feeds were offered ad lib. either singly (n 4 per treatment) or as a choice between feed H and another feed (pairs LH, AH, BH, CH and UH; n 9 per feed pair) to individually penned Suffolk × Scottish mule wether lambs, over the live-weight range 25–45 kg. On the single feeds the rates of live-weight gain were 273, 326, 412, 418, 396 and 407 g/day (SE of difference (SED) 34; P < 0.01) and protein (excluding wool) gain were 27, 32, 44, 45, 41 and 39 g/d (SED 4; P < 0.001) for feeds L, A, B, C, H and U respectively. When sheep were given a choice between a feed below (L or A) and a feed above their CP requirements (H; as judged by the single-feeding treatments) the CP concentration selected was not different between the two pairs: 131 (SE 4) v. 133 (SE 4) g CP/kg feed for pairs LH and AH respectively. On the choices BH and CH (a choice between two feeds above requirements) the feed lower in CP was constantly preferred (874 (SE 33) and 910 (SE 33) g feed B and C respectively per kg total feed intake; CP selected was 157 and 178 g CP/kg respectively). However, this was not the case with the UH choice on which sheep consumed only 599 (SE 61) g feed U/kg total feed intake, resulting in a selection of a higher CP in their diet (173 g CP/kg). The live-weight gains of the animals given a choice between two feeds were 416, 387, 415, 410 and 383 g/d (SED 37) and protein gains were 45, 40, 46, 50 and 43 (SE 7) for pairs LH, AH, BH, CH and UH respectively, which were comparable with the best performance achieved on a single feed. The results suggest that sheep were able to select a diet that meets their CP requirements and avoid, at least to a certain extent, excess of protein intake. It is also possible that sheep discriminate against a property of feed U, such as an excess of urea, when this feed is paired with a feed high in CP.

Abstract:
The ‘Dialogue on the life of John Chrysostom’, published by Palladius of Helenopolis c. 408–9, is a key source for the history of the Church at the beginning of the fifth century. This paper argues that the history of the Johannite schism provides the background against which to understand the scope and nature of this work. It questions the received chronology of Palladius’ later life and shows that he is not so much a hard-core supporter of John who refused all contact with the official Church, as someone who could envisage the followers of John accepting an offer of amnesty in 408/409 and reintegrating into the Church. The dialogue is a strategic work that accepts that after the death of John (407) the Johannites can only bank on the support of Rome to improve their situation. As a consequence its trustworthiness cannot be accepted at face value.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to compare the structure of the lumbosacral transitional vertebra, which were detected by computed tomography (CT) and identified on dried human sacral, and to discuss possible pathogenetic mechanisms of this congenital malformation. The article presents 9 cases of lumbosacral transitional vertebra, including 6 cases of L5 sacralization and 3 cases of S1 lumbarization. The formation of the transitional lumbosacral vertebra is genetically determined. All types of such developmental anomaly can be detected only on CT. L5 sacralization repeats the process of fusion of the sacral vertebra into a single bone. A lack of the costotransverse bars of the first sacral vertebrae fusion results in the S1 lumbarization.

Abstract:
Embryo bisection has been used to produce identical twins, to increase the pregnancy rate per embryo, and for preimplantation diagnosis. However, the invasive nature of splitting might affect development decreasing embryo survival. In general, after bisection or biopsy, embryos are transferred to surrogate mothers and their competence evaluated in terms of implantation and pregnancy maintenance. However, this makes it difficult to evaluate the immediate response of each embryo to bisection. Our aim was to evaluate embryo growth during the 5 days following bisection by using an extended in vitro culture system. We postulated that bisected blastocysts are able to counteract the injury and expand in size until Day 13 of in vitro culture. Two experiments were performed. First, two different culture systems were evaluated to determine the best to support embryo development from Day 9 to 13. One system consisted of conventional culture in plastic (CCP), while the other one included co-culture with endometrial cells derived from a cycling cow (CC). Both used SOFaa supplemented with 3 mg mL–1 of fatty acid-free BSA and 2% FBS in 4-well dishes. Twenty-six nonbisected in vitro-derived blastocysts were cultured. Embryo size and survival were recorded daily. All living embryos were measured with Micrometrics™ SE Premium software and statistical analyses were performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test. From Day 9 to 11, blastocysts cultured in the CCP system had smaller diameters than those cultured in CC [Day 9: CC 358 µm, CCP 277 µm (P = 0.04); Day 10: CC 456 µm, CCP 340 µm (P = 0.005); and Day 11: CC 535 µm, CCP 408 µm (P = 0.02)]. However, on Day 12 and 13, no difference was observed in embryo diameters [(Day 12: CC 560 µm, CCP 411 µm (P = 0.1) and Day 13: CC 470 µm, CCP 474 µm (P = 0.9)]. Additionally, embryos with diameters less than 200 µm on Day 9 did not develop further independent of the culture system (P < 0.001). Thus, in the second experiment, to determine embryo size after bisection, only well-expanded grade 1 blastocysts >200 µm were used in the conventional CCP system. Twenty four Day 8 bisected (B) and nonbisected (C) blastocysts were cultured from Day 9 until 13. In the bisected group, one-half was kept for further gene expression analysis. Significant differences were observed in embryo diameter between both groups on Day 9 and 10 of culture [Day 9: B 321 µm, C 277 µm (P = 0.05); D10: B 436 µm, C 340 µm (P = 0.01)]. However, on Days 11, 12, and 13, no differences in diameter were observed (Day 11: B 411 µm, C 408 µm (P = 0.8); Day 12: B 394 µm, C 411 µm (P = 0.5); Day 13: B 316 µm, C 474 µm (P = 0.3)]. In conclusion, we show that bovine embryos are capable of developing in vitro until Day 13, and embryo diameter on Day 9 impacts on the subsequent in vitro survival of nonsplit embryos, regardless of culture system. Finally, on Day 11 of culture, the split embryos were able to overcome the injury caused by the bisection procedure and expanded in size similar to controls, until at least Day 13 of culture.

Abstract:
0007 Anecdotal evidence and case reports indicate that sudden cardiac death (SCD) occurs in adolescents and young adults. To investigate the epidemiologic pattern and secular trend of SCD among ages 15-34 years, we analyzed US Multiple Causes of Death data from 1989 to 1996. SCD is defined as death due to cardiac disease (ICD-9 codes: 390-398, 402 and 404-429)that occurred out of hospital or in emergency room. This definition has been used in prior studies with reasonable accuracy. Mortality rates were calculated using mid-year population estimates as the denominators, and standardized to 1970. In 1996, 3,000 sudden cardiac deaths occurred for this specific age group, which reflects a 10% increase from 1989 (n=2,719). The leading underlying causes of SCD were ischemic heart disease (ICD codes 410-414, and 429.2), and arrhythmias or cardiomyopathies (ICD codes 425-427), each accounting for 35% of all SCDs. SCD mortality rates were twice as high in men as in women, and increased with age. From 1989 to 1996, age-standardized SCD mortality rates increased in both men (+10%) and women (+31%) ( Figure). Although SCD is relatively rare in US adolescents and young adults, the increased trend of SCD mortality warrants further investigation. This is the first national surveillance report on SCD in young adults. Figure 1.

Abstract:
Pakistan –USA relations with the punctuated history of over seventy years roller-coaster motion have passed through phases of intense engagement to era of sanctions and betrayal during the Cold war, followed by spells of distrust, suspicions, and discord during the War against Terror. The intensity of close relations of the 50s and 60s shifted from one extreme to that of complete ignorance in the 70s, followed by urgent marrying up during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and turning in to a most sanctioned Ally after soviet withdrawal. 9/11 served as another anchorage once again for the two old allies; however the warmness of relations remained frequently affected by numerous vexatious irritants thereby eroding mutual trust and War results. The discord in bilateral relations was transformed into cooperation by the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US and Pakistan is listed as a key ally in the war against Afghanistan. Since the commencement of the War against Terror in Afghanistan, the pattern of interstates relations has taken turns with every major event and the changing tones of the last few years indicated that the sky over Pakistan once again seems to be overcast. The rhetoric of "do more" and suspension of all kinds of military and economic aid was a true replica of the past. The backlash of War in Afghanistan appeared with bangs in Pakistan threatening its peace and stability on one hand and polarizing its socio-political fibre of the society on the other. Soon Pakistan's army was left alone by the US and the NATO in its operation against the safe havens of terrorists alongside Durand line with disregard to all of its human and economic cost, suffered as a non-NATO ally. Pakistan's role in the fulfilment of USA interests in Afghanistan is once again signified in the wake of US Withdrawal forces and culmination of promising peace process in Afghanistan. The situation is once against ripe for Pakistan to pursue the USA's objectives and in return seek USA's support in resolving its economic, security, and Kashmir.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common condition characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the respiratory passages during sleep. According to recent studies prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea ranges between 9–38%. OSA is associated with increased all-cause mortality particularly associated with cardiac diseases. In order to provide representation of larger population estimates, administrative data using ICD codes have been utilized. Accurate identification of sleep apnea is important for research related to health care utilization and health outcomes. Our aim is to validate an algorithm for identification of patients with obstructive sleep apnea using ICD 10 codes seen at UTMB. Methods Patient medical records were collected from University of Texas Medical Branch EHR system. We included patients who visited from 6/1/2015 to 5/31/2018 in pulmonary or primary care clinics who had any sleep disorder diagnostic codes (ICD-10: G47.30, G47.31, G47.33, G47.34, G47.36, G47.20, G47.10, G47.39, G47.8, G47.9, F51.13, F51.09, R06.89, J96.90, R40.0, F51.9, R06.83, R06.3, G47.63, G47.39, Z86.69). Two algorithms were created. First algorithm included patient with sleep diagnostic codes used at 2 separate office visits. Second algorithm included patients with sleep diagnostic codes and evidence of sleep study. The performance of most used codes was calculated individually. Results 1200 patients were identified with ICD codes used during two office visits. According to the first algorithm with only ICD codes 75% of patients had sleep apnea. Upon addition of evidence of sleep apnea with ICD codes the % of patients with sleep apnea increased to 95.44. Among most used ICD codes, G47.30 had 86.47% patients with sleep apnea according to first algorithm and 96.01% with second algorithm. The percentages for G47.33 was 80.86% and 96.4%, for G47.10, 78.05% and 87.67%, for R40.0 78.91% and 90.63% respectively. Conclusion In conclusion, claim based algorithms for sleep apnea diagnostic codes showed good test positive percentages overall, but algorithm with ICD 10 codes with sleep study performed better in identifying patients with sleep apnea than ICD-9-CM codes alone. Similarly, the individual performance of most used ICD codes was highly improved when evidence of sleep study was present. Support (if any):

Abstract:
AbstractThe new mineral shilovite, the first natural tetrammine copper complex, was found in a guano deposit located on the Pabellón de Pica Mountain, near Chanabaya, Iquique Province, Tarapacá Region, Chile. It is associated with halite, ammineite, atacamite (a product of ammineite alteration) and thénardite. The gabbro host rock consists of amphibole, plagioclase and minor clinochlore, and contains accessory chalcopyrite. The latter is considered the source of Cu for shilovite. The new mineral occurs as deep violet blue, imperfect, thick tabular to equant crystals up to 0.15 mm in size included in massive halite. The mineral is sectile. Its Mohs hardness is 2. Dcalc is 1.92 g cm–3. The infrared spectrum shows the presence of NH3 molecules and NO3– anions. Shilovite is optically biaxial (+), α = 1.527(2), β = 1.545(5), γ = 1.610(2). The chemical composition (electron-microprobe data, H calculated from ideal formula, wt.%) is Cu 26.04, Fe 0.31, N 30.8, O 35.95, H 4.74, total 100.69. The empirical formula is H12.56(Cu1.09Fe0.01)N5.87O6.00. The idealized formula is Cu(NH3)4(NO3)2. The crystal structure was solved and refined to R = 0.029 based upon 2705 unique reflections having F > 4σ(F). Shilovite is orthorhombic, space group Pnn2, a = 23.6585(9), b = 10.8238(4), c = 6.9054(3) Å, V = 1768.3(1) Å3, Z = 8. The strongest reflections of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I,%) (hkl)] are: 5.931 (41) (400), 5.841 (100) (011), 5.208 (47) (410), 4.162 (88) (411), 4.005 (62) (420), 3.462 (50) (002), 3.207 (32) (031), 2.811 (40) (412).

Abstract:
Retinoids exert their physiological action by interacting with two families of nuclear receptors, the retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and the retinoid X receptors (RXRs), which regulate gene expression by forming transcriptionally active heterodimeric RAR/RXR or homodimeric RXR/RXR complexes on DNA. Retinoid receptor activity resides in several regions, including the DNA and ligand binding domains, a dimerization interface, and both a ligand-independent (AF-1) and a ligand-dependent (AF-2) transactivation function. While 9-cis retinoic acid (RA) alone is the cognate ligand for the RXRs, both 9-cis RA and all-trans RA (t-RA) compete for binding with high affinity to the RARs. This latter observation suggested to us that the two isomers may interact with a common binding site. Here we report that RAR alpha has two distinct but overlapping binding sites for 9-cis RA and t-RA. Truncation of a human RAR alpha to 419 amino acids yields a receptor that binds both t-RA and 9-cis RA with high affinity, but truncation to amino acid 404 yields a mutant receptor that binds only t-RA with high affinity. Remarkably, this region also defines a C-terminal boundary for AF-2, as addition of amino acids 405 to 419 restores receptor-mediated gene activity to a truncated human RAR alpha lacking this region. It is interesting to speculate that binding of retinoid stereoisomers to unique sites within an RAR may function with AF-2 to cause differential activation of retinoid-responsive gene pathways.

Abstract:
408 Background: Current surveillance guidelines regarding follow up of patients with resected pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are based on limited data, and there have been few studies evaluating recurrence risk in such patients. We assessed disease-free survival (DFS) in a large, multi-institutional cohort of patients with resected PNETs. Methods: Patients with surgically resected, non-metastatic PNETs between 1990-2017 were identified using institutional databases at three institutions: Mount Sinai Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and University of Pennsylvania. Recurrence date was defined as the imaging date documenting first recurrence (n = 56); if an imaging date was not available, then July 1 of that year was used in calculations (n = 9). Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to estimate DFS; multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to assess DFS adjusted for patient and disease-related characteristics, including tumor stage and grade. Results: We identified a total of 418 patients with surgically resected, non-metastatic PNETs between 1990-2017. Of these patients, 299 patients had complete stage and tumor grade information and were used for subsequent analysis. Patients were 48.6% male with a median age of 57.5 years at time of surgery. The distribution of AJCC stage and grade was as follows: 170 (56.9%) patients were stage I, 129 (43.1%) were stage II; 167 (55.9%) had grade 1, 121 (40.5%) had grade 2, and 11 (3.7%) had grade 3 tumors. Median follow-up was 2.6 years (interquartile range = 4.2); during this time, 65 (21.7%) patients developed disease recurrence. After adjusting for potential confounders, patients with more advanced stage and higher tumor grade were significantly more likely to develop disease recurrence (Hazard Ratio (HR): 6.9, 95% CI: 2.5-19.1 for stage II; HR 4.0 (1.7-9.5) for grade 2; HR 2.6 (0.4-17.8) for grade 3). Both higher stage and tumor grade were associated with decreased DFS (p < 0.0001 for both). Conclusions: In surgically resected PNETs, with a median follow-up time of 2.6 years, both higher stage and higher grade are associated with decreased DFS. Further follow up of this cohort is planned.

Abstract:
Purpose. To demonstrate the possibilities and determine the specific features of navigational transpupillary laser coagulation of the retina in children with active stages of retinopathy of prematurity. Material and methods. Navigational transpupillary laser coagulation of the retinal avascular zones (LC) was performed in 9 premature infants in the active ROP with an unfavorable type in 18 eyes, of which 2nd stage of the disease was diagnosed in 10 eyes, 3rd stage with epiretinal neovascularization in the projection of the extraretinal proliferation ridge – in 8 eyes. Laser treatment in all cases was carried out transpupillary on the NAVILAS 577s laser system (OD-OS, Germany) using a pediatric corneal contact panfundus lens. Results. In result of the navigation LC in children with active ROP stages regression of the disease was achieved in all cases, the required amount of laser coagulation was performed in one session, in the avascular zone of the retina, regardless to the localization of the pathological process, while the implemented treatment plan fully corresponded to preoperative planning. Conclusion. The presence of navigation support for laser interventions allows for effective, safe and dosed treatment for patients with active ROP. Keywords: retinopathy of prematurity, retinal laser coagulation, automated navigation laser system

Abstract:
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a B lymphotropic herpesvirus of humans that elicits strong HLA class I-restricted cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses. An influence of such responses on virus evolution was first suggested by our finding that EBV isolates from the highly HLA A11-positive Papua New Guinea (PNG) population carried a lys-thr mutation at residue 424 of the nuclear antigen EBV-encoded nuclear antigen (EBNA4) that destroyed the immunodominant target epitope for A11-restricted CTL recognition. Here we turn to a much larger population, Southern Chinese, where the A11 allele is again present in over 50% of the individuals. Each of 23 EBV isolates analyzed from this population were also mutated in the EBNA4 416-424 epitope, the mutations selectively involving one of the two anchor residues in positions 2 (417 val-leu) or 9 (424 lys-asp, -arg or -thr) that are critical for A11-peptide interaction. The majority of the Chinese isolates and all 10 PNG isolates also carried mutations affecting positions 1 and 2 of the next most immunodominant A11-restricted epitope, EBNA4 residues 399-408. These changes clearly affected antigenicity since A11-positive lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) carrying these mutant EBV strains were not recognized by A11-restricted CTLs raised against the prototype B95.8 virus. Furthermore, Chinese donors naturally infected with these mutant viruses did not mount detectable A11-restricted CTL responses on in vitro stimulation with autologous LCL cells carrying either the B95.8 or their endogenous EBV strain. In two different highly A11-positive populations, therefore, immune pressure appears to have selected for resident EBV strains lacking immunodominant A11-restricted CTL epitopes.

Abstract:
408 Background: Locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) is often a mix of borderline and never-resectable tumors. Multimodality treatment might downstage these tumors to allow a potential radical resection, especially the borderline group. In this ongoing phase II study we examined the feasibility of FOLFIRINOX with or without CRT followed by surgery for both borderline and never-resectable tumors (NCT-01397019). Methods: Patients in performance status 0-1, with initially non-resectable stage II/III pancreatic cancer were offered FOLFIRINOX (oxaliplatin 85 mg/m2, irinotecan 180 mg/m2, leucovorin 400 mg/m2, 5FU 400 mg/m2+ 2400 mg/m2) every 14 days. Every 4th series the patients were evaluated and offered CRT (50.4 Gy/27F & capecitabine) if deemed potentially resectable. Resections were performed if deemed possible by the MDT. Results: Between August 2012 and present, 58 patients have been recruited with a median observation time of 14.5 months. Median age was 65(range 38-75) years, with 47%/53% stage II/III distribution. Median CA19-9 was 299(range 2-13,432). Two-hundred-seventy-four courses of FOLFIRINOX have been given, with a median of 6.5 per patient, with a median of 2 without dose modifications. Presently twenty-one patients have been treated with CRT. Twelve patients have been resected, of which 7 received prior CRT. Median survival for all patients was 15.6 months (11-NR) with a 1-year survival of 70% (49-84). For patients not resected the median survival was 12.8 months (9-16) for resected the median survival has not yet been reached. The FOLFIRINOX was associated with adverse events similar to what is expected in metastatic patients. Conclusions: FOLFIRINOX with or without CRT in patients with LAPC shows promising efficacy in patients with both borderline and never-resectable tumors. Unmodified FOLFIRINOX had acceptable toxicity, however dose reductions are often needed. CRT following initial FOLFIRINOX was feasible and without unexpected toxicity. Clinical trial information: NCT-01397019.

Abstract:
A 16-month-old male with previously untreated bilateral clubfeet was admitted to S.B. Izmir Tepecik Education and Research Hospital, Izmir, Turkey. Both feet underwent surgical treatment. During surgery, an accessory soleus muscle was detected on the right side. The accessory soleus muscle had a distinct distal insertion at the superior anteromedial border of the calcaneus and also anterior and medial to the Achilles tendon. He was treated by bilateral complete subtalar release with Cincinnati incision, and the accessory soleus was also cut and the distal part resected. At the final follow-up visit, when the patient was 6 years and 9 months old, both feet had a normal appearance and appeared normal on radiograph and magnetic resonance imaging, with no presence of the accessory soleus muscle or its remnant. In our opinion, awareness of the association between an accessory soleus muscle and clubfoot, and sectioning of this muscle during surgery may improve surgical results. Abstract:
The annual variation in radon and thoron concentrations in different seasons has been revealed for 40 different locations of Jodhpur, Nagaur, Bikaner and Jhunjhunu districts of Northern Rajasthan by using pinhole dosimeter, and the results have been compared with ventilation conditions and building materials. The indoor radon concentration was observed to vary from 109 ± 17 to 334 ± 13 Bq m−3, 63 ± 17 to 255 ± 21 Bq m−3, 45 ± 11 to 128 ± 19 Bq m−3 and 74 ± 9 to 300 ± 21 Bq m−3 and thoron concentration varies from 26 ± 15 to 418 ± 21 Bq m−3, 3 ± 2 to 134 ± 33 Bq m−3, 12 ± 6 to 140 ± 19 Bq m−3 and 6 ± 4 to 408 ± 29 Bq m−3 for winter, spring, summer and autumn seasons, respectively. In winter season, indoor radon concentration of about 50% dwellings was observed to be within or higher than the action level as recommended by International Commission of Radiation Protection. However, in summer the action level is lower than the action limit. The exposure of human beings to indoor radon and thoron and the associated risk has also been examined. The total annual mean effective dose due to indoor radon and thoron in Northern Rajasthan are less than or close to the action level 3–10 mSv y−1 as recommended by International Commission of Radiation Protection.

Abstract:
We conducted a morphological investigation of flower bud differentiation in four cultivars of avocado (Persea americana Mill.): ‘Pinkerton’ (Guatemalan hybrid), ‘Simmons’ (West Indian), ‘Hass’ (predominantly Guatemalan × Mexican), and ‘Monroe’ (Guatemalan × West Indian). The avocado cultivars were planted on the main island of Okinawa Prefecture, which is the only subtropical area of Japan. Buds were collected on 15 November, and 1 and 19 December, 2011, and on 4 and 17 January 2012. The buds were sectioned longitudinally at a thickness of 15 μm through paraffin sectioning, double-stained with Safranin O and Fast green, and observed under an optical microscope to morphologically determine the flower bud differentiation stage. Flower bud differentiation occurred earliest in ‘Pinkerton’ in mid-December, followed by ‘Simmons’ in early January and ‘Hass’ in mid-January. Flower bud differentiation was not observed in ‘Monroe’ during the study period. How to Cite: Takaaki Maeda, Yoshimi Yonemoto, Md. Amzad Hossain, 2023. Abstract:
The association behaviour of I- with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micelles was investigated by the fluorescence quenching technique with 2-(9-anthroy1oxy) palmitic acid and 12-(9- anthroyloxy) stearic acid as probes. A 1 : 1 ground-state complex occurs between I- and 12-(9-anthroyloxy) stearic acid with an equilibrium constant, Kc , of 408 dm3 mol-l. In both cases I- partitions into the micelle with a partition coefficient, Kp , of about 365. The results show the importance of probe solubilization site and probe/quencher interaction in the elucidation of micelle structure and permeability.

Abstract:
Aim. Analysis of the functional results of new IOL with an extended depth of focus implantation a in the short-term (6 months) follow-up period.Patients and methods. The prospective study included 27 patients (40 eyes) after bilateral (n = 12) or monolateral (n = 15) implantation of EDOF IOL Tecnis Symfony with an average follow-up period of 6.5 ± 0.2 (6–7) months. In all cases, IOL implantation was preceded by cataract phacoemulsification or removal of the transparent lens for refractive purposes. The age range was from 39 to 78 (60.6 ± 10.1) years. EDOF IOL Tecnis Symfony ZXR00 was implanted in 30 eyes, and toric EDOF IOL Tecnis Symfony ZXT100, ZXT150, ZTX225, and ZXT300 were implanted in 10 eyes in the presence of clinically significant astigmatism.Results. An increase in UCNVA from 0.18 ± 0.04 to 0.79 ± 0.11, UCIVA from 0.21 ± 0.07 to 0.89 ± 0.10, UCDVA from 0.24 ± 0.06 to 0.95 ± 0.16, BCNVA from 0.61 ± 0.05 to 0.80 ± 0.03, BCIVA from 0.58 ± 0.10 to 0.97 ± 0.19, and BCDVA from 0.65 ± 0.08 to 1.0 ± 0.06 (p < 0.05 in all cases). The spherical equivalent of refraction decreased from –4.5 ± 1.8 in the preoperative period to –0.18 ± 0.92 in the follow-up period of 6 months after implantation of the Tecnis Symfony ZXR00 IOL. In the group with toric IOLs, a decrease in the cylindrical component of refraction was shown from 1.33 ± 1.02 (modulo) to 0.61 ± 0.44 (modulo) during the maximum observation period. In all cases, the rotational stability of the implanted IOLs was noted. In 9 patients out of 24 (37.5 %), permanent or periodic optical phenomena were detected, of which 4 patients (16.7 %) had halos, 3 (12.5 %) had glare, and 2 (8.3 %) had difficulty driving in the dark. These side effects did not affect the overall patient satisfaction — 22 patients (91.7 %) rated the result of the operation as “excellent”, and 2 patients (8.3 %) — as “good”.Conclusion. The paper presents an analysis of the first experience in the Russian Federation of implantation of new IOLs with extended depth of focus and their toric version in 27 patients. Data on the effectiveness of this IOL for vision correction at all distances, low frequency of side optical phenomena, and high patient satisfaction are presented. Further comparative studies with other multifocal IOLs are needed.

Abstract:
408 Background: Clinical trials for pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients treated with a uniform SBRT tumor dose prescription exclude tumors invading the duodenum due to potential for increased GI mucosal complications. We analyzed our non-trial patients to determine the impact of SBRT in the setting of known duodenal invasion. Methods: An IRB-approved institutional database was queried identifying all 220 localized borderline resectable or locally advanced pancreatic cancer patients treated with SBRT from 2009 to 2015. Eligibility included patients with head tumors, a minimum of 6 months of follow up, and duodenal invasion on pretreatment endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Dose painted SBRT delivered 25-30 Gy to tumor abutting the duodenum and up to 50 Gy to focal tumor/vessel abutment. Analysis evaluated whether patients with duodenal invasion had increased incidence of grade ≥ 3 (G3+) toxicity, GI ulceration or bleeding, or worsened overall survival (OS). Fisher’s Exact Test (2-tailed) compared patient characteristics and binary outcomes. Survival estimates by Kaplan-Meier were compared using log-rank test. Results: The study population included 126 patients (median F/U 14.1 months). Of 23 patients with duodenal invasion, 14 (61%) underwent resection, 3 (13%) developed G3+ toxicity and 1 (4%) had acute pre-op G3 GI bleeding that was controlled endoscopically prior to surgery. Of 103 without duodenal invasion, 48 (47%) underwent resection, 9 (9%) suffered G3+ toxicity and 7 (7%) had any GI bleed or ulceration. None of the 7 patients with GI bleeding or ulceration underwent pancreatectomy, and 3 had bleeding from tumor progression into the duodenum. There was no association between duodenal invasion and the incidence of G3+ toxicity (p = 0.76) or GI ulceration/bleeding (p = 1.0). There was no worsened OS (p = 0.17) or G3+ toxicity (p = 0.22) for patients with duodenal invasion on EUS. Patients with a GI bleeding or ulceration event had decreased OS (p = .014). Conclusions: Duodenal invasion on EUS prior to SBRT did not worsen GI bleeding risk or survival. Our data suggests that excluding pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients with duodenal invasion from SBRT when using a dose-painted approach is unnecessary.

Abstract:
Galectins are a family of β-galactoside-binding low molecular weight proteins (lectins) homologous in the amino acid sequence of the carbohydrate-binding site. Galectins interact with glycans on the cell surface and are involved in regulating the functional activity of most cells of the human body. Galectin-9 plays a crucial role in controlling the functions of cells of the immune system. Of particular importance are the immunoregulatory effects of galectin-9 during pregnancy, when its production by trophoblast cells increases significantly, which is associated with the formation of peripheral immune tolerance. The main ligand for galectin-9 is the Tim-3 (T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 3) molecule, whose high expression is detected on natural killers (NK cells). During pregnancy, the phenotype and functions of NK cells change significantly, which is necessary to prevent cytotoxic reactions to fetal cells. The review systematizes data on the role of galectin-9 in Tim-3-mediated regulation of NK cell functions in the aspect of pregnancy. The study of the regulation of the functional activity of NK cells is necessary to increase the effectiveness of NK cell therapy.
