Abstract:
ObjectiveCardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices have been shown to improve heart failure (HF) symptoms, survival and improve quality of life (QoL). We evaluated the overall impact of CRT on recurrent hospitalisations and survival in real-world patients with HF.DesignRetrospective observational study.SettingNorthern region of New Zealand.ParticipantsPatients with HF who underwent CRT device implantation in between 2008 and 2014 were followed up for 1 year.InterventionsCRT.Primary and secondary outcomes measuredSurvival, all-cause hospitalisations, length of stay, from which days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) were calculated.Results177patients were included, of whom eight died (4.5%) within 1 year of follow-up. Pre-CRT implantation, 83% of all patients had been hospitalised for a total 248 hospitalisation events. Following CRT, 47 patients (27%) were readmitted to hospital within 1 year (total of 98 admissions; p<0.01 compared with pre-device implant). Length of hospital stay was significantly shorter than in the year prior to CRT implantation at a median of 4 (IQR 2–6) vs 7 (IQR 3.5–10.5) days (p=0.03). An increase in the median number of DAOH was observed from 362 (IQR 355–364) to 365 (IQR 364–365) (p<0.01) after CRT implant. The improvement in DAOH was seen regardless of gender and type of CRT devices. Greater DAOH was also seen in those with non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy and Caucasians.ConclusionAfter CRT implant, patients with HF have greater DAOH with reduction of total hospitalisation and fewer hospital days. These results support CRT devices use as a treatment option for appropriate HF patients. DAOH represents an easily measured, patient-centred endpoint that may reflect effectiveness of interventions in future CRT studies.

Abstract:
AbstractThe present paper discusses the results of a trial study, which was carried out to demonstrate the potential beneficial effects of virginiamycin (VM) on sow and litter performance. VM was added to the sow food at the levels of 0, 20 and 40 mg/kg, for a period of two breeding cycles, covering pregnancy and lactation. VM supplementation of the sow food improved sow performance by: (i) decreasing sow weight loss from farrowing to weaning (first period: 8·78 v. 3·54 v. 2·88 kg, P < 0·05; second period: 8·98 v. 3·93 v. 2·32 kg, P < 0·05), (ii) decreasing the duration of the reproductive cycle (first period: 154·5 v. 152·2 v. 151·2 days, P < 0·05; second period: 153·8 v. 151·5 v. 250·6 days, P < 0·05) and (in) increasing milk fat content (second period: 63·7 v. 81·3 v. 83·3 g/kg, P<0·05). Litter performance was also improved in terms of: (i) litter size at weaning (first period: 8·16 v. 8·88 v. 9·18, P < 0·05; second period: 8·98 v. 9·30 v. 9·76, P < 0·05), (ii) body weight at weaning (first period: 5·78 v. 6·29 v. 6·56 kg, P < 0·05; second period: 5·88 v. 6·38 v. 6·60 kg, P < 0·05), (Hi) average daily gain (first period: 172 v. 189 v. 197 g, P < 0·05; second period: 178 v. 292 v. 198 g, P < 0·05) and (iv) food conversion ratio (first period: 0·356 v. 0·331 v. 0·324, P < 0·05; second period: 0·363 v. 0·334 v. 0·325, P < 0·05). These beneficial effects of VM were more pronounced at the higher of the two inclusion levels.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Wild-type p53 forms tetramers and multiples of tetramers. Friedman et al. (P. N. Friedman, X. B. Chen, J. Bargonetti, and C. Prives, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 90:3319-3323, 1993) have reported that human p53 behaves as a larger molecule during gel filtration than it does during sucrose gradient sedimentation. These differences argue that wild-type p53 has a nonglobular shape. To identify structural and oligomerization domains in p53, we have investigated the physical properties of purified segments of p53. The central, specific DNA-binding domain within murine amino acids 80 to 320 and human amino acids 83 to 323 behaves predominantly as monomers during analysis by sedimentation, gel filtration, and gel electrophoresis. This consistent behavior argues that the central region of p53 is globular in shape. Under appropriate conditions, however, this segment can form transient oligomers without apparent preference for a single oligomeric structure. This region does not enhance transformation by other oncogenes. The biological implications of transient oligomerization by this central segment, therefore, remain to be demonstrated. Like wild-type p53, the C terminus, consisting of murine amino acids 280 to 390 and human amino acids 283 to 393, behaves anomalously during gel filtration and apparently has a nonglobular shape. Within this region, murine amino acids 315 to 350 and human amino acids 323 to 355 are sufficient for assembly of stable tetramers. The finding that murine amino acids 315 to 360 enhance transformation by other oncogenes strongly supports the role of p53 tetramerization in oncogenesis. Amino acids 330 to 390 of murine p53 and amino acids 340 to 393 of human p53, which have been implicated by Sturzbecher et al. in tetramerization (H.-W. Sturzbecher, R. Brain, C. Addison, K. Rudge, M. Remm, M. Grimaldi, E. Keenan, and J. R. Jenkins, Oncogene 7:1513-1523, 1992), do not form stable tetramers under our conditions. Our findings indicate that p53 has at least two autonomous oligomerization domains: a strong tetramerization domain in its C-terminal region and a weaker oligomerization domain in the central DNA binding region of p53. Together, these domains account for the formation of tetramers and multiples of tetramers by wild-type p53. The tetramerization domain is the major determinant of the dominant negative phenotype leading to transformation by mutant p53s.

Abstract Losses in white- and red-flesh grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) retailed in metropolitan New York during 1981-83 were 3.6%. There was no difference between the 2 types of fruit. Florida-grown grapefruit had a retail cullage loss of 3.5%. No significant difference in loss occurred between store-prepackaged and loose fruit during retail. Parasitic diseases were responsible for almost half of the culls; rind breakdown and mechanical damage accounted for most of the remainder. Sampling at the wholesale level revealed a potential cullage of 1.4%.

326 Background: Improved safety and response rates of AMVAC over standard MVAC in patients (pts) with metastatic bladder cancer support study of neoadjuvant AMVAC for pts with muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and prenephroureterectomy (NU) for pts with high-grade upper-tract urothelial cancer (UTUC). We performed a phase II study of neoadjuvant AMVAC in MIBC and UTUC, and herein report the results of the UTUC exploratory subgroup. Methods: Pts with UTUC (ureter or renal pelvis) with high-grade UC on biopsy, or positive urine cytology and mass on cross sectional imaging, N0-N1, CrCl >=50, adequate hepatic and marrow function were eligible. Pts received 3 cycles of AMVAC (methotrexate 30 mg/m2, vinblastine 3 mg/m2, doxorubicin 30 mg/m2, cisplatin 70mg/m2) day 1, pegfilgrastim 6 mg day 2 or 3, every 2 weeks. NU, with lymph node dissection at surgeon discretion, was performed 4-8 weeks after last cycle. Exploratory endpoint was pathologic complete response (pCR) rate. Results: Accrual is complete with 10 evaluable UTUC pts enrolled at 2 institutions (FCCC, TJU) over 46.5 months. Median age 67 (range 49-83). Of 10 pts, 6 completed all 3 cycles of AMVAC. Four pts received < 3 cycles due to grade 3 acute kidney injury (1), pyelonephritis and grade 3 diverticulitis (1), flare of underlying hepatitis (1), grade 3 fatigue (1). Additional related grade 3 adverse events (AE) were anemia (1) and nausea/vomiting (1), no grade 4 or 5 AE. All pts underwent NU within 8 weeks of last chemotherapy, median 5.5 weeks. Median time from day 1 AMVAC to NU was 9 wks. 1/10 pts had a pCR, 4/10 patients were staged <pT1, 2/10 pT2, and 3/10 >pT3 or N+. An additional 21.5 months of enrollment were needed in this expansion cohort to accrue 10 pts with UTUC, compared to 44 MIBC pts in 25 mos. All pts completed study treatment as of July 2013. Conclusions: In this small sample, neoadjuvant AMVAC prior to NU was clinically active with manageable toxicity. With short duration from start of chemotherapy to NU, 3 neoadjuvant AMVAC cycles should be considered for further study for high-grade UTUC prior to NU in the cooperative group setting. Clinical trial information: NCT01031420.

Abstract:
Composites based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polysaccharides (PS) have significant potential for use as compostable packaging materials, as well as in various fields of crop production. PVS are produced by the industry of various brands that differ in molecular weight (MM) and the residual content of vinyl acetate (BA) groups, and as a result - the degree of hydrolysis. Depending on the brand of PVA and the nature of the filler, such properties of composites based on them as water resistance, strength, degree of bioconversion, etc.will differ significantly. The purpose of the work: a comprehensive assessment of the properties of high-filled composites based on PVA of various brands, differing in the degree of hydrolysis, and polysaccharides. Objects of research: composites obtained by direct combination of a 5% solution of PVA (grades 1799, VS-05, BP-05, KurarayPoval 3-83) and PS powder (wood microcellulose - MCD, corn native starch - KK), with and without the addition of a plasticizer (P) - glycerin, followed by dehydration in air or in a vacuum drying cabinet. Based on the presence of external defects after dehydration and the strength characteristics of the material, it was found that for PVA-1799 it is possible to achieve a filling degree of 80 vol.%, for a PVA BP-05, VS-05 KurarayPoval and 3-83-no more than 50 vol.% without plasticizer and up to 70 vol.% in the presence of a plasticizer. It is noted that when filling PVA with starch up to 50 vol.% dehydrated composites are transparent or semi-transparent, which gives them additional advantages as packaging materials (including film). For composites based on PVA-1799, it was found that the maximum water absorption (250% by weight) has a PVA filled with MCD (20: 80 vol.%), and the introduction of a plasticizer (5 vol.% ) significantly reduces the degree of water absorption (up to 150% by weight), which is not typical for this brand of PVA filled with CC (water absorption was about 50% by weight with and without plasticizer). Composites based on PVA grades VS-05, BP-05, KurarayPoval 3-83 dissolve in water at room temperature for 5-10 minutes. During the preliminary assessment of the biodegradation of the studied PVA-1799 composites, it was found that micro-cracks and areas with immobilized microbiota were observed in the polymer matrix during microscopy after 6 months of composting and soil testing, however, no significant damage to the integrity of the polymer of this brand occurred during the specified composting period, which emphasizes the complex nature of the biodegradation of PVA with high MM and low content of VA groups.

Abstract:
e19064 Background: LB-based CGP of ctDNA can facilitate the diagnosis, molecular profiling, and monitoring of patients with myeloid neoplasia, particularly when standard CGP is not feasible due to a lack of circulating disease or insufficient tumor in the marrow or tissue. Methods: Retrospective study of LB samples from patients reported to have histiocytic neoplasms (HNs), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), or acute myeloid leukemia (AML) tested using hybrid-capture next-generation sequencing using the FoundationOne Liquid CDx (targeting 324 genes), FoundationOne Liquid (70 genes), or FoundationACT (62 genes) assays during routine clinical care between 5/2016 and 9/2021. Results: Among 48,459 unique patient samples submitted for CGP, 83 were from myeloid neoplasia: 34 HN, 23 MDS, 15 MPN, and 11 AML. The median cell-free DNA yield was 74.9 ng (interquartile range [IQR]: 52.0-167.4), well above the minimum needed for analysis. Reportable pathogenic alterations were detected in 62.7% (52/83) of cases. The median maximum somatic allele frequency (MSAF) was 17.0% (IQR: 1.7-49.0%), with AML (45.7%), MDS (25.9%), and MPN (43.8%) having higher median MSAFs than HNs (3.2%), not unexpected given that the former naturally circulate. In all, 147 pathogenic short variants and 6 pathogenic rearrangements were detected (median variant allele frequency [VAF]: 2.1%, IQR: 0.3-20.5%, range: 0.11-99.8%). Sixty-one had VAFs < 1.0%, indicating excellent sensitivity. HNs exhibited activating RAS-RAF-MEK pathway alterations in BRAF (31.3% of cases in which pathogenic alterations were identified), NF1 (12.5%), MAP2K1 (6.3%), and NRAS (6.3%), detected at VAFs as low as 0.21%, 0.13%, 0.11%, and 4.0%, respectively. AML cases exhibited pathogenic alterations in TP53 (57.1%), FLT3 (28.6%), IDH2 (28.6%), NPM1 (28.6%), KRAS (14.3%), and NRAS (14.3%), among others. Subclonal heterogeneity was identified, including an AML case with KRAS G12A and G13R and NRAS G12A mutations detected at VAFs of 0.24%, 0.19%, and 0.2%, respectively. Altered genes in patients undergoing workup for MDS or MPN included TP53 (41.4%), JAK2 (37.9%), DNMT3A (13.8%), CHEK2 (10.3%), PTPN11 (10.3%), SF3B1 (10.3%), TET2 (10.3%), ASXL1 (6.9%), MPL (3.5%), and U2AF1 (3.5%), among others. Last, among 48,243 patients with a LB for a solid tumor diagnosis, 3,487 JAK2 V617F, 366 CALR C-terminal truncation, and 343 MPL W515X mutations were detected, potentially indicating a concurrent or occult MPN. Conclusions: LB identified clinically relevant genomic alterations in myeloid neoplasia, offering a powerful tool that may be used pre- or post-treatment when CGP of the buffy coat, marrow, or tissue is infeasible. Given its low limit of detection, LB can also identify low-level emerging or persistent subclones, which may facilitate monitoring and minimal residual disease testing.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors for pregnancy loss in embryo recipients. We evaluated data from 31,792 embryo transfers (ET), including 859 embryos derived in vivo (IVD), 28,814 produced in vitro (IVP), and 2,119 produced by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), recorded from 2008 to 2012 on a single commercial farm. Embryos were produced by different in vitro embryo production laboratories, but ET was performed by the same team and within the same herd. Recipients were checked for pregnancy (PR) by ultrasonography 23 days after ET and re-examined on Days 60, 90, and 120 of gestation to identify pregnancy losses (PL). Data were analysed for the main effect of embryo production technique upon PL. For IVD and IVP embryos only, additional risk factors were included in the statistical model, including cryopreservation, type of semen (conventional, sex-sorted, reverse sex-sorted), embryo developmental stage, recipient corpus luteum quality score, use of natural oestrus or synchronization protocol, embryo-recipient synchrony, embryo genetics (taurine v. zebu, dairy v. beef), season (summer v. winter), and fetal sex. Data were analysed using the GLIMMIX procedure of the SAS Software (v 9.3, SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA). Overall PR was 42.1% (13,395 of 31,792) and PL between days 30 and 60, 60 and 90, and >90 were 8.7, 5.3, and 3.5%, respectively (cumulative PL=17.4%). The SCNT embryos had lower PR compared to IVP and IVD embryos (36.6, 42.5, and 44.2%, respectively; P<0.001) as well as a greater PL in all periods (30-60=45.2, 6.4, and 8.2%; 60-90=3.5, 1.4, and 1.8%; and >90=21.4, 6.3, and 7.1%, respectively; P<0.0001). The PR was similar between fresh and frozen embryos, but lower for vitrified ones (42.9, 43.1, and 39.1%, respectively, P<0.05). Slow freezing resulted in a greater total PL compared to fresh embryos (18.0v. 13.9%, respectively; P<0.05). We observed an interaction between embryo genetics and season. The taurine dairy subgroup had the lowest PR during summer (37.7v. >41.7% in all other groups; P<0.01), but within this group PR increased during winter (37.7v. 44.6%, P<0.05). The PL was greater for taurine than zebu during summer (17.8v. 14.0%; P<0.001), but did not differ during winter (P>0.05). The type of semen, embryo developmental stage, corpus luteum quality score, and embryo recipient synchrony affected pregnancy rates (P<0.05) but not pregnancy losses (P>0.05). Interestingly, the use of ovulation synchronization protocols resulted in similar pregnancy rates but greater pregnancy losses compared to natural oestrus (41.8v. 43.2%, P>0.05; and 15.9v. 22.1%, P<0.05, respectively). Pregnancy loss after 60 days was similar between female and male fetuses (5.0v. 4.9%, respectively; P>0.05). In summary, the assisted technology used to produce and freeze embryos was the main cause of variation in pregnancy losses, which were also affected by the interplay of season by genetic background and by the use of synchronization protocols. Conversely, factors known to affect pregnancy rates, such as embryo developmental stage, corpus luteum quality, and embryo-recipient synchrony, had no effect upon pregnancy loss. Abstract:
325 Background: Alliance/CALGB 80802 randomized phase III trial evaluated DO+S vs. S in pts with aHCC, and showed no improvement in median OS. Multi-drug resistant pathway mitigation by the Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK pathway and bFGF-mediated activation of Raf-1 promotes the formation of antiapoptotic Raf-1 and ASK1 complex, induced by anthracyclines. S efficiently blocks NS5A-recruited c-Raf mediated HCV replication and viral gene expression. Once inhibited by S, VEGF expression of HepG2 may limit HCV cellular entry. Release of Raf-1-Ask-1 dimer and inhibition of Raf-1 via S putatively differ in the presence or absence of DO. We hypothesize treatment with S reduces HCV titer levels (TL) and influence pts’ outcome. Methods: In 80802 HCV pts, TL were evaluated in both arms at baseline and post-baseline at Day 1 of Cycles 2, 3, and every 2 cycles and at progression or discontinuation of therapy. HCV undetectable (HCV-UN) levels were defined as < 50 copies/mL. TL were evaluated in relation to OS and PFS. HCV RNA levels were measured by TaqMan PCR and by genotype. Results: Of 356 pts, 83 were HCV+ with more Black/African American (25/50 = 50%) vs. White (54/239 = 23%) or other race groups (4/67 = 6%) (p < 0.0001). HCV titer data were available on 54 pts (S: 28, DO+S: 26). At baseline, 12 pts (S: 7, DO+S: 5) were HCV-UN, and post-baseline HCV TL did not significantly differ between treatment arms; one patient in each arm went from detectable (HCV-D) to HCV-UN. Post-baseline, 40 pts were HCV-D vs. 14 who were HCV-UN (S+DO: 8, S: 6 pts). Except for the two pts who became HCV-UN, baseline HCV-D vs. HCV-UN titers was similar to that status post-baseline. PFS and OS between HCV-D and HCV-UN both at baseline and post-baseline are delineated in the table. Conclusions: We observed that S did not influence HCV TL. Pts treated with DO+S vs. S had worse PFS if they had HCV-UN, and further that higher levels of HCV titers at baseline were associated with significantly improved PFS. Given the small sample size, these findings warrant further prospective evaluation. Abstract:
325 Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are active in many cancers, but people with rare variant, non clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (nccRCC) have been excluded from most clinical trials in RCC. UNISON (NCT03177239) aimed to test 2 hypotheses; the activity of nivolumab in nccRCC (Part 1), and the benefit of adding ipilimumab to nivolumab, in people whose cancers progress on nivolumab (Part 2). Methods: 83 participants (pts) with advanced nccRCC with good (ECOG0/1) performance status, were enrolled including papillary type 1 (17%), papillary type 2 (28%), chromophobe (18%), Xp11 translocation (6%), hereditary leiomyomatosis renal cell carcinoma syndrome-associated renal cell carcinoma (6%), RCC unclassified (10%) and other (15%) histological subtypes. Participants took nivolumab (N) 240mg every two weeks in Part 1 in total. If they experienced progression and remained eligible they could take N (3mg/kg) plus ipilimumab (I; 1mg/kg) every 3 weeks for up to 4 doses (Part 2). Pts with disease control after N or N + I could continue N for up to 1 year. UNISON was powered to distinguish a clinically-relevant improvement in objective tumor response rate (OTRR) from 15% to 30% in people taking N+I in Part 2 in pts whose cancers were refractory to single-agent first-line N. Here we report results of Part 1. Results: Pts experience of N appeared similar to previous reports, with most experiencing mild adverse events. 12 treatment related SAE occurred in 11 patients (13%). 14 pts (17%) experienced treatment delays, or permanent treatment discontinuation (10%). The median time on treatment was 5.1 months. The OTRR was 17% with 3 complete responses and 11 partial responses. The median duration of response was 21 months. Stable disease occurred in 49% of pts and disease progression in 34%. The disease control rate at 6 months was 45% (95% CI: 34%, 56%). The median PFS was 4.0 months (95% CI: 3.6, 7.4). The 6 month progression-free survival (PFS) was 45% (95% CI: 34-55) and the 12 months PFS was 30% (95% CI: 21%, 40%). Conclusions: Pts with nccRCC treated with N experience similar adverse events compared to pts with other cancers. A substantial minority of people with nccRCC derive benefit, but many pts have cancers refractory to anti-PD1, similar to other reports. The activity of I and N in this PD1-refractory population is of considerable interest and will be reported at a later date. Clinical trial information: NCT03177239 .

Abstract:
BackgroundPsoriasis (PsO) is one of the common extramusculoskeletal manifestations of spondyloarthritis (SpA). There is a natural overlap between peripheral SpA (pSpA) and psoriatic arthritis. However, there are several unmet needs in patients with pSpA who cannot be classified otherwise (i.e., patients without PsO and without axial involvement) due to a lack of formally approved treatment options and lack of evidence of efficacy of different drug classes in this specific population.ObjectivesTo evaluate the clinical characteristics, disease burden, and treatment patterns of pSpA patients with and without PsO using data from the cross-sectional ASAS-perSpA study.MethodsWe analysed 433 patients who had a diagnosis of pSpA according to the rheumatologist’s diagnosis from the ASAS-perSpA cohort. A personal history of PsO was defined as the presence of signs of PsO on physical examination, psoriatic nail dystrophy, including onycholysis, pitting, and hyperkeratosis, or a personal history of PsO diagnosed by a dermatologist. Clinical characteristics, patient-reported outcomes and treatment patterns were compared between subgroups with and without PsO.ResultsA total of 83 patients (19.2%) had a personal history of PsO. Patients with PsO were older (48.4 vs. 43.2 years), had a longer diagnostic delay (7.4 vs. 3.5 years), a higher frequency of dactylitis (36.1 vs. 20.0%), and enthesitis (65.1 vs. 55.4%) than patients without PsO (Table 1). A longer diagnostic delay (odds ratio – OR=1.06 [95% CI 1.01-1.11]), lower HLA-B27 positivity (OR=0.31 [95% CI 0.15-0.65]), and higher frequency of enthesitis (OR=2.39 [95% CI 1.16-4.93]) were associated with the presence of PsO in the multivariable logistic regression analysis (Figure 1). Higher patient global assessment scores and lower use of bDMARD treatments were observed in patients without PsO as compared to patients with PsO.Table 1.Demographics and clinical characteristics of patients with pSpA according to the presence or absence of personal history of PsOTotal N=433Patients without personal history of PsO N=350Patients with personal history of PsO N=83p-valueAge, mean (SD)44.2 (14.4)43.2 (14.2)48.4 (14.5)0.005Sex (male)203/433 (46.9)167/350 (47.7)36/83 (43.4)0.541Symptom duration of SpA (years), mean (SD)10.1 (9.5)9.0 (8.8)14.4 (10.8)<0.001Diagnostic delay of SpA (years), mean (SD)4.3 (6.6)3.5 (5.9)7.4 (8.4)<0.001First- or second-degree relatives with SpA (except psoriasis)74/433 (17.1)61/350 (17.4)13/83 (15.7)0.871First- or second-degree relatives with psoriasis63/391 (16.1)29/308 (9.4)34/83 (41.0)<0.001Patients who fulfilled peripheral ASAS critieria95/433 (21.9)74/350 (21.1)21/83 (25.3)0.461Patients who fulfilled CASPAR critieria81/433 (18.7)12/350 (3.4)69/83 (83.1)<0.001Peripheral articular disease ever410/433 (94.7)335/350 (95.7)75/83 (90.4)0.059Any enthesitis in the past confirmed by specific investigations112/433 (25.9)81/350 (23.1)31/83 (37.3)0.045Current SPARCC Enthesitis Index score, mean (SD)0.4 (1.1)0.3 (0.9)0.6 (1.6)0.013Dactylitis ever100/433 (23.1)70/350 (20.0)30/83 (36.1)0.003HLA-B27 positive197/316 (62.3)179/269 (66.5)18/47 (38.3)<0.001CRP mg/L, mean (SD)13.9 (25.4)15.2 (26.9)8.5 (16.5)0.019PGA, mean (SD)4.5 (2.7)4.7 (2.7)3.9 (2.5)0.018Local injection of glucocorticoids for peripheral musculoskeletal involvement ever183/193 (94.8)156/159 (98.1)27/34 (79.4)<0.001csDMARDs ever384/433 (88.7)310/350 (88.6)74/83 (89.2)>0.999bDMARDs ever223/433 (51.5)164/350 (46.9)59/83 (71.1)<0.001bDMARDs current160/433 (37.0)119/350 (34.0)41/83 (49.4)0.011Categorical variables were given as n/N (%)Figure 1.Association of demographic and clinical characteristics of pSpA with the presence of a personal history of PsOConclusionThe presence of skin PsO has an impact on clinical characteristics of pSpA. pSpA patients without PsO were less frequently treated with bDMARDs despite an comparable or even higher burden of the disease.AcknowledgementsNo disclosureDisclosure of InterestsNone declared

Abstract:
The FeverApp registry is an ambulant ecological momentary assessment (EMA) model registry focusing on research of fever in children. Verification of EMA reliability is a challenge, due to absence of other source data. To ensure the reliability of EMA data, 973 families were invited to reassess their documentation in a survey. The survey contained questions (a) regarding the number of children, (b) genuineness of entries, (c) completeness of submitted fever episodes, (d) medication, (e) usefulness and further usage of the app. Of those invited, 438 families (45% response rate) participated in the survey. Of these, 363 (83%) families have registered all their children, 208 families have one child. The majority (n = 325, 74.2%) of families stated that they only made genuine entries in the app. Agreement between survey and app for fever episodes is 90% (Cohen’s κ = 0.75 [0.66, 0.82]). Medication shows 73.7% agreement, κ = 0.49 [0.42; 0.54]. The majority (n = 245, 55.9%) consider the app as an additional benefit and 87.3% would like to use it further. Email surveys are a possible approach to evaluate EMA based registry data. The possible observation units (children and fever episodes) show an adequate reliability. With this approach, surveys of further samples and variables could help to improve the quality of EMA based registries.

Abstract:
In 2018–2020 there was studied the efficiency of new herbicides ‘Fenizan’, VR (water solution 360 + 22.2 g/l) and ‘Avroreks’, KE (332 + 21 g/l) at various doses (0.14-0.2 and 0.5–0.6 l/y) against weeds on the sowings of a new winter wheat variety ‘Pamyati Shatilova’ (co-breeding of the Institute of Agriculture of the Kabardino-Balkarsky Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences” and the National Grain Center named after P. P. Lukyanenko) in the conditions of the steppe part of Kabardino-Balkaria. The purpose of the current study was to identify more effective doses of these herbicides with a single application. As a control (without herbicides), there was adopted an agrotechnical method, namely harrowing across the direction of BZSS-1.0 crops in the tillering phase in spring. The soil of the experimental plot was an ordinary (calcareous) blackearth of heavy loamy granulometric composition. The arable (0–20 cm) layer contained 3.0–3.5 % of humus; 100 g of soil contained 1.56–2.87 % of Р2О5 (according to Machigin); 3.61–4.30 mg of K2O (according to Machigin); 6.8–7.0 of pH. The average annual rainfall is 360–400 mm. There was found that in the control variant, the total number of weeds decreased by 26.3 %, while the number of perennials remained unchanged. On variants with the use of herbicides, weediness of crops decreased on 71.1–83.8 %, including the increase of perennials on 52.6–80.7 %. A higher effect was obtained at 0.2 l/ha (73.2 and 60 %) of ‘Phenizan’, VR and 0.6 l/ha (83.8 and 80.7 %) of ‘Avroreks’, KE. By the time of winter wheat harvesting, the least amount of weeds was identified on the variants using these herbicides. The best results in reducing weeds’ amount were obtained from the use of ‘Avroreks’, KE at dosages of 0.5 and 0.6 g/l – 150–175 g/m2 of weeds, the percentage of their death was 88.9–93.6. The indicators of grain yield structure and the average yield for 3 years (46.7 and 47.7 c/ha) on the experimental variants were also in favor of ‘Avroreks’, KE (0.6 g/l). The yield increase in comparison with the standard herbicide ‘2.4-D Zernomaks’, KE was 17.4%, and with the control it was 29.6 %.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Preterm-born (PT) children have an increased risk for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Respiratory events elicit acute changes in heart rate (HR) in term-born (T) children. Whether this response is augmented in PT children with OSA remains unclear. We aimed to analyse the HR response during obstructive respiratory events in PT children with OSA. Methods Nine PT children (3–12 y), were matched for obstructive apnoea hypopnoea index (OAHI), age and gender with T children. Beat-to-beat HR was averaged 10s before, during and the peak after (post) each obstructive event, and peak HR was expressed as percentage change. Results 323 obstructive events in PT and 376 in T children were identified, consisting of 681 hypopnoeas (PT 320; T 361) and 18 apnoeas (PT 3; T 15). There were insufficient apnoeas in the PT group for analysis. For hypopnoeas during total sleep, the PT group had significantly lower HR compared to the T group before median 81bpm (IQR 74–87) vs 88 bpm (79–99); p<0.001), during (76 bpm (69–83) vs 82 bpm (74–92; p<0.001) and post (97 bpm (89–103) vs 105 bpm (95–115; p<0.001) events. The post event increase in HR was significantly higher in the PT (26%, (16–39)) compared with the T (23%, (14–36)) group, p=0.008. Conclusion Although HR was lower during obstructive hypopnoeas in preterm compared with term-born children, the post event surge was significantly higher. This heightened HR response to respiratory events in children born preterm may underlie the worse cardiovascular outcomes in these children.

Abstract:
Abstract Larvadex 0.3% premix (cyromazine), an insect growth inhibitor, was fed to 17 White Rock hens (37 wk old) at the University poultry farm to determine its effectiveness in controlling northern fowl mites. Seventeen birds served as controls. All birds were housed individually in a 7.3 X 7.3-m shelter. The shelter contained 2 banks of Favorite single deck, double row, sloping floor hanging cages (46 X 46 X 30 cm), 20 cages per bank. Cage banks were separated by a 2.3-m isle and were suspended 1 m above the floor. Treated and control birds were housed in separate banks. On 18 Feb ‘83 all birds were artificially infested with northern fowl mites by mechanically aspirating mites from carrier hens and releasing them into the vent area of each recipient. Mite populations were visually estimated by parting the feathers in the vent area at two-wk postinfestation and at weekly intervals for the duration of the study. Population levels were indexed by the following code: 0 = 0 mites/bird; 1 = 1-2 mites; 2 = 3-9 mites; 3 = 10-31 mites; 4 = 32-99 mites; 5 = 100-315 mites; 6 = 316-999 mites; 7 = 1,000-3,159 mites; 8 = 3,160-9,999 mites; 9 = 10,000-31,586 mites; and 10 = more than 31,586 mites/bird. Larvadex treatments were initiated on 4 Mar ‘83 and continued for 15 consecutive wks.

Abstract:
Abstract Essential thrombocythemia is a myeloproliferative disorder complicated by thrombotic phenomena as a result of the platelet-clotting hyperactivation linked to increased angiogenesis. It is reported that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) generates thrombin and promotes platelet activation and that activated megakaryocytes and platelets release VEGF. Anagrelide (ANA) is a newer cytoreductive agent which decreases megakaryocyte mass and inhibits the platelet activation. Therefore, we studied platelet factor 4 (PF4), as indicator of platelet activation, VEGF and prothrombin fragment 1+2 (F1+2) and d-dimer (DD), as indicators of thrombin generation, in 22 patients (12 males and 10 females, mean age 50 years) affected by ET diagnosed according to PVSG criteria. Their mean duration of disease was 4.8 years. All patients were on either HU (6 patients) or IFN-α (4 patients) and ANA (12 patients). HU was used at doses ranging between 1 and 1.5g/day. The dosage of IFN-α was 3 MIU, 3 days/week. ANA was initially administered in dose of 0.5 mg/day, with increases of 0.5 mg/day every 7 days until the platelets decreased below 500×109/L and with a average maintenance dosage of 2.2 mg/day. All patients recieved antiplatelets either aspirin (ASA) (15 patients) or indobufen (IND) (6 patients) and dipirydamole (DYP) (1 patient). Platelets, PF4, VEGF, F1+2 and DD were measured before cytoreduction and to complete response defined as platelets≤ 500×109/L. Platelets were determined by automated analyser. PF4, VEGF and F1+2 were assayed by ELISA and DD by immunoturbimetric latex agglutination. Before treatment all patients had marked platelets (1060±356×109/L) and high PF4 and VEGFPLT (157±83 IU/ml vs 1.6±0.9 IU/ml and 1.2±1 pg/ml vs 0.3±0.2 pg/ml, respectively) (p<0.0001 and p= 0.002, respectively). F1+2 and DD were elevated 3.6±3.7nml/L and 205±83 μg/L, respectively) than controls (0.6±0.3nmol/L and 75±21 μg/L, respectively) (p<0.0001 and p<0.0001, respectively). After a median time of 4.5 months from cytoreduction all patients had platelets ≤ 500 × 109/L (430±70 × 109/L). PF4 and VEGFPLT remained high (121±72 IU/ml and 3.5±4.6 pg/ml, respectively) such as F1+2 and DD (3.5±3.8 nmol/L and 197±55 μg/L, respectively) in the HU- and IFN-α-treated patients. PF4 and VEGFPLT normalised (7.4±3 IU/ml and 0.9±0.5 pg/ml, respectively) in the ANA-treated patients such as F1+2 and DD (1.1±0.4 nmol/L and 98±62 μg/L, respectively). These measurements were repeated in another sample collected after 1 o 2 months and showed concordance for PF4, VEGFPLT, F1+2 and DD concentrations. A positive correlation we found between PF4 and F1+2 and DD (p=0.023 and p=0.019, respectively) and between VEGF and F1+2 (p=0.020, respectively). Interestingly, these data might suggest that ANA has antiangiogenic property and hence antiplatelet and anticoagulant effects.

Abstract:
Background: β-Thalassemia (βT) is one of the most common genetic diseases. The specific mutation profile of that region can be identified by determining the specific mutations of each region and ethnicity. Objectives: This study investigated the β-globin mutations in patients with βT in Hamadan. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 47 βT carriers. In the present study, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-sequencing technique was used to confirm βT carriers, and data were analyzed with SPSS-16 at a 95% confidence level. Results: In general, 164 individuals (81 men and 83 women) suspected of having thalassemia were examined, where 28.7 % (n=47) of them were identified by PCR-sequencing with βT carriers (48.8% male and 53.2% females). Hemoglobin beta (HBβ): c.251 del, HBβ: c.27dupG, and HBβ: c.92+5G>A mutations had the greatest effect on mean corpuscular volume (MCV) reduction, mean corpuscular HB (MCH) reduction, and HbA2 increment, respectively. The most common mutation in both males and females was the same (HBβ: c.315+1G>A). Conclusion: According to the results, the most common mutations in the diagnosis of βT in Hamadan were serially HBβ: c.315+1G>A mutation and HBβ: c.25-26del, HBβ: c.112del, HBβ: c.20A>T, HBβ: 92+6T>C, and HBβ: c.316-106C>G.

Abstract:
Bi4Ti3O12 (BTO) powders were synthesized using soft combustion techniques, specifically known as Solution Combustion Synthesis (SCS) and Low-temperature Combustion Synthesis (LCS). XRD results showed that the single phase BTO was obtained following calcinations at 800?C for the sample prepared using SCS; compared to after combustion, for the sample prepared using LCS. The TG/DTA showed a combustion temperature of around 252 - 280?C, which became stable with a single phase BTO at 500?C and above. Sintering was carried out at 1,100?C for 3 h, to determine the microstructures, grain orientation, relative density, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties, of the bulk ceramics. It was found that the bulk ceramics prepared using SCS exhibited elongated-like grains, strong (117)-preferred grain orientation, a relative density of 93.3%, ?r = 320 - 360, tan ? = 0.03 - 0.1, Pr = 6.8 ?C/cm2, and Ec = 20 kV/cm. Meanwhile, the bulk ceramics prepared using LCS showed plate-like grains, strong c-preferred grain orientation, a relative density of 83%, ?r = 143 - 195, tan ? = 0.01 - 0.38, Pr = 5.9 ?C/cm2, and Ec = 30 kV/cm.

Abstract:
Abstract A liquid chromatographic (LC) method is described for determining residues of flumequine (FLU) and nalidixic (NAL), oxolinic (OXO), and piromidic (PIR) acids in catfish muscle. The identities of 3 of these residues are confirmed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The extraction and cleanup procedures are the same for both determination and identification. Analyte isolation involves homogenizing the tissue with acetone, defatting the acetone extract with hexane, and extracting the compounds into chloroform. The extract is further purified by first partitioning into base and subsequently back-extracting into chloroform after acidifying the aqueous phase. After the solvent is evaporated, the residue is dissolved in mobile phase, and the analytes are determined by LC with fluorescence detection, excitation at 325 nm and emission at 365 nm. Catfish muscle was fortified with each quinolone at 5,10,20,40, and 80 ng/g. Overall average recoveries were 83–94%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 5–7%. The method was evaluated also by a second analyst, who determined 4 quinolones added in combination. Average recoveries of quinolones from catfish fortified at 5,10, and 20 ng/g were 78–90%, with RSDs of 3–6%. The presence in catfish muscle of incurred OXO, FLU, and NAL at the 10 ng/g level was confirmed by analyzing the decarboxylated quinolones by GC–MS. The relative abundances of all 5 major ions for OXO, FLU, and NAL were within 10% of those observed in spectra of standard compounds decarboxylated by the same method.

Abstract:
AbstractPerformance, water intake and feeding behaviour of two groups of 30 (trial 1), 40 (trial 2) or 50 (trial 3) weaned pigs offered either pellets or meal of the same formulation were compared.Average daily weight gains (ADG) were higher for pigs given pellets rather than meal in trials 2 (413 v. 363 g/day,P < 0·001) and 3 (356 v. 324 g/day, P < 0·05). Mean daily water intake (DWI) was higher with meal than with pellets but only during trial 1 (2·31 v. 1·65 I/day, P < 0·01).The occupation time (ОT) and the number of animals using the feeder simultaneously (N) were higher when pigs were given meal rather than pellets, whatever the animal density: trial 1: 82·6 v. 69·9% (P = 0·05) and 3·8 v. 2·3 (P < 0·01); trial 2: 90·9 v. 77·9% (P > 0·05) and 5·2 v. 3·1 (P < 0·01); trial 3: 96·2 v. 83·6% (P < 0·05) and 5·9 v. 3·8 (P < 0Ό1). When using pellets, ОT and N were always significantly lower during the night than during the day but when using meal in groups of 40 and 50, ОT during the night was almost as high as during the day.The greater the group size, the lower were ADG (both diets) and DWI (only with meal) and the higher were ОT and N (both diets). Furthermore, significant linear and curvilinear regressions of DWI, ОT and N according to time were calculated. In conclusion, pigs need more time to eat meal than to eat pellets. Thus the number of pigs per feeder has to be adapted to the food presentation. Too high a number of pigs per feeder impairs feeding behaviour and eventually welfare, by preventing preferential diurnal feeding activity and this may affect productivity.

Abstract:
322 Background: Ramucirumab (RAM), nivolumab (NIVO), and trifluridine/tipiracil (FTD/TPI) were approved for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) between 2010 and 2020 in Japan. However, the impact of these newly approved drugs on survival in the real-world clinical setting is not clear. Methods: This retrospective study investigated the effectiveness of RAM, NIVO, and FTD/TPI in patients with performance status (PS) 0 to 2 who received doublet or triplet chemotherapy including platinum agents in first-line (1L) for advanced gastric adenocarcinoma at our hospital between 2010 and 2020. Patients were divided into two groups before or after 2017 to compare the effectiveness. Results: From a total of 825 patients, 533 were assigned to the pre-2017 group and 292 to the post-2017 group. Baseline characteristics of the pre- and post-2017 groups were, respectively, as follows: median age, 64 (range, 20-83) and 65 (25-85) years; PS 0, 206 (39%) and 89 (31%), and PS 1-2, 327 (61%) and 202 (69%); peritoneal metastasis, 334 (63%) and 189 (65%); liver metastasis, 157 (30%) and 68 (23%); and HER2 positive, 82 (15%) and 57 (20%). There was no difference in the proportion of fluoropyrimidine and platinum agents between the two groups. For the pre- and post-2017 groups, 1L chemotherapy comprised fluoropyrimidine plus platinum agents (FP) for 71% and 68% of patients, FP plus taxanes for 15% and 1%, FP plus trastuzumab for 11% and 15%, and FP plus immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for 1% and 10%, respectively. Taxanes and irinotecan were used significantly more often in any treatment line in the pre-2017 group (taxanes, 74% vs. 64%, p<0.01; irinotecan, 32% vs. 7%, p<0.01), whereas RAM, ICIs, and FTD/TPI were used significantly more often in any line in the post-2017 group (RAM, 50% vs. 17%, p<0.01; ICIs, 48% vs. 9%, p<0.01; FTD/TPI, 6% vs. 0%, p<0.01). Overall survival was significantly longer in the post-2017 group than in the pre-2017 group (median, 16.9 months vs. 13.8 months, HR 0.74, p<0.01). Progression-free survival did not differ between the pre- and post-2017 groups in relation to 1L (median, 6.0 vs. 5.9 months, p=0.74); second-line treatment (median, 3.0 months [95%CI, 2.6-3.3] vs. 3.1 months [95%CI, 2.3-3.6]; HR 0.96 [95%CI, 0.82-1.14], p=0.57); third-line treatment (median, 2.1 months [95%CI, 1.8-2.5] vs. 1.8 months [95%CI, 1.4-2.1]; HR 1.03 [95%CI, 0.82-1.29], p=0.80); or fourth-line treatment (median, 1.9 months [95%CI, 1.7-2.5] vs. 1.8 months [95%CI, 1.5-2.8]; HR 0.85 [95%CI, 0.57-1.25], p=0.39). Rates of second-, third-, and fourth-line treatment in the pre- and post-2017 groups were 83% and 79% (p=0.23), 45% and 56% (p<0.01), 16% and 22% (p=0.07), respectively. Conclusions: Newly approved drugs in salvage-line treatment of AGC may have contributed to prolonged survival.

Abstract:
One-step genomic selection is a method for improving the reliability of the breeding value estimation. This study aimed to compare the reliability of pedigree-based best linear unbiased prediction (PBLUP) and single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP), single-trait and multitrait models, and the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and Bayesian methods. Data were collected from the production performance records of 2207 Xinjiang Brown cattle in Xinjiang from 1983 to 2018. A cross test was designed to calculate the genetic parameters and reliability of the breeding value of 305 daily milk yield (305 dMY), milk fat yield (MFY), milk protein yield (MPY), and somatic cell score (SCS) of Xinjiang Brown cattle. The heritability of 305 dMY, MFY, MPY, and SCS estimated using the REML and Bayesian multitrait models was approximately 0.39 (0.02), 0.40 (0.03), 0.49 (0.02), and 0.07 (0.02), respectively. The heritability and estimated breeding value (EBV) and the reliability of milk production traits of these cattle calculated based on PBLUP and ssGBLUP using the multitrait model REML and Bayesian methods were higher than those of the single-trait model REML method; the ssGBLUP method was significantly better than the PBLUP method. The reliability of the estimated breeding value can be improved from 0.9% to 3.6%, and the reliability of the genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) for the genotyped population can reach 83%. Therefore, the genetic evaluation of the multitrait model is better than that of the single-trait model. Thus, genomic selection can be applied to small population varieties such as Xinjiang Brown cattle, in improving the reliability of the genomic estimated breeding value.

Abstract:
Abstract Dialkyl phosphates (DAP) are common degradation products of organophosphorus pesticides that are used as urinary biomarkers for human exposure. An HPTLC method was developed for the quantitative determination of DAP in fruit juices, i.e., dimethyl phosphate (DMP), dimethyl thiophosphate (DMTP), diethyl phosphate (DEP), and diethyl thiophosphate (DETP). Dibutyl phosphate (DBP) was used as an internal standard. The method was based on precipitation of fruit acids in the presence of barium chloride and acetonitrile and liquidliquid extraction with acetonitrilediethyl ether. Extracted DAP were derivatized with 1-(bromoacetyl)pyrene (BAP), and the BAP derivatives separated on HPTLC amino plates with dichloromethane as the mobile phase. Densitometry was performed by measurement of fluorescence at 366/>400 nm. The limit of quantification (LOQ) values were between 0.8 and 1.4 ng/zone. Fluorescence enhancement was achieved by dipping the plate into a paraffin oil solution, increasing the sensitivity and resulting in an LOQ of 0.50.6 ng/zone. Repeatabilities with relative standard deviations of 3.5 (n = 5, at 1520 ng/zone) and coefficients of correlation of 0.9999 were highly satisfactory for rapid trace analysis of DAP in the fruit juices by HPTLC. The mean recoveries from apple juice spiked at 0.5 mg/L were 74, 83, 70, and 57 for DMP, DEP, DMTP, and DETP, respectively. If an application volume of 5 L of apple juice extract was applied, the LOQ in apple juice was 300 g/L. However, this can be lowered by application of higher volumes (up to 50 L) or a more concentrated derivatization batch.

Abstract:
We have developed a network-reactive robotic telemicroscopy system that uses high-speed image processing and quality of service (QoS) feedback to maximize performance. In tests, four magnifications (4×, 10×, 40×, 60×) of a section stained with haematoxylin and eosin were used. Up to 25 clients, distributed across two Internet domains, accessed the server. When given control of the microscope, any of the clients could direct the microscope to change focus and objectives within 3 s and move the stage to any x-y position within 1 s. Transmission rates of 50-200 kbit/s were achieved for video (320 × 240 pixels at 24 bit/pixel). Performance varied according to the complexity of the images being transmitted. The 25 simultaneous users were supported without affecting the operation of the server and the system overhead was relatively small. The server's message-processing time and the network transmission delay amounted to 83 ms. The compression ratio of five previously stored video-sequences ranged from 336:1 to 1213:1. The underlying model for this system could serve a wide range of telemedicine and distance-learning applications.

Abstract:
SummaryMarwari is a desert goat breed of India and is found in the western part of the country. It is well known for its tolerance of hot and cold climates, disease resistance and thriving in very harsh nutritional conditions. It is a hairy black coloured goat. The means of the body length, body weight and ear length were estimated as 54 cm, 83 cm and 20 cm in males and 49 cm, 72 cm and 16 cm in females. Males have larger and stronger horns than females. The average adult body weight in males and females is 46 and 30 kg, respectively. The overall milk yield at 200 days is 98 kg. The kidding percentage in field conditions is 79.3 percent and multiple birth is about 19 percent. The Marwari is an early maturing breed as the average age of puberty is 306 days. The mortality in kid is 3.3 percent and in adults 3.5 percent in field conditions. The marketing and production economics of goats in its home tract have been analysed to ascertain viability of goat enterprise. The breed improvement programme was started in 1990–91 in its home tract involving farmers' flocks.

Abstract:
328 Background: Esophageal cancer arising within a previous radiation treatment field (ECRF) is rare. The patterns of disease, treatment and outcomes in these patients (pts) have not been well characterized. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for pts treated for esophageal cancer at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre from 2002-2016. Electronic medical records of all pts with a histologic diagnosis of esophageal cancer occurring within the field of previous radiotherapy were reviewed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: Of 31 ECRF pts identified, the most common prior cancer was head and neck (45%), median radiation (RT) dose 50Gy, median time to diagnosis of esophageal cancer 12 years. Features at diagnosis of ECRF included: median age 71 years, 58% male, 87% with performance status (PS) 0-1, 77% squamous cell carcinoma, 19% stage IV. Treatment intent was curative in 16 pts, palliative in 15 (Table). Reasons for palliative treatment were: 40% metastatic, 53% comorbidities/PS, 7% anatomic factors. Of resected pts, 36% had a pT1-2 tumour, 55% pN0, 69% R0. For curative pts, median PFS was 26.2 months (95%CI 10.9-34.4) with a 3 year PFS rate of 35% (95% CI 15-81). Median OS for curative pts was 26.4 months (95%CI 17.8-105.5) with a 3 year OS rate of 43% (95% CI 22-83). Most palliative pts were unable to have chemotherapy due to comorbidities and PS. Median OS for palliative pts was 9.5 months (95% CI 3.6-15.4). Conclusions: Most ECRF pts presented with earlier stage disease; however, more than a third of these could not have aggressive curative treatment due to comorbidities and/or PS. Most curative pts had surgery alone. Few palliative pts had chemotherapy, largely due to poor clinical status. Our data suggest that outcomes in both curative and palliative ECRF pts may be limited by the ability to tolerate standard of care treatments. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
This study investigated the compensation strategies which were used by competent and poor speakers to avoid communication gap in speaking activities. This study used descriptive quantitative desaign. The use of descriptive method because of this study was not searching about compararison or making prediction, but only finding out about mostly strategies used either competent or poor speakers in developing their speaking activities to avoid communication gap. Descriptive research is also chosen because it explores and catches social situation particularly in the class wholisticly, widely and deeply. Data collection used an observation sheet and a questionnaire. Population of this study was 83 students categorized as competent and poor speakers of semester 4 at English Study Program in one of the universities in Kendari. The findings of this study showed that the strategy which dominant used by either competent speakers or poor speakers as their group tendencies that was selecting the topic with the same overall average score of 4.0; competent speakers mostly used selecting the topic with the overall average of 4.0, adjusting or approximating the message with the overall average of 3.6 and using mime or gesture with the overall average of 3.5; poor speakers also mostly used selecting the topic with the overall average of 4.0 and coining word of 3.5. Competent speakers much more used compensation strategies than poor speakers. Thus, its major implication for pedagogy is that compensation strategies are extremely useful as guidance to avoid communication gap in speaking activities

Abstract:
323 Background: In 2012 the ALSYMPCA study established a 3.6 month Overall Survival (OS) benefit of mCRPC patients treated with Ra-223 over placebo. To date clinical outcomes of Ra-223 treatment in a non-study population have not been prospectively evaluated. Methods: The ROTOR registry aimed to include 300 patients in 20 Dutch hospitals prior to Ra-223 treatment at the physician’s discretion. Clinical parameters collected included: positioning of Ra-223, Adverse Events (AE’s; CTCAE v4.03), Skeletal Related Events (SRE) and survival data. SRE was defined as radiotherapy to a bone metastasis, a new pathological fracture, spinal cord compression and/or bone surgery. Progression-Free Survival (PFS) was defined as survival until radiological or clinical progression, subsequent treatment or death. Results: Between April 2014 and September 2017, 305 patients were included of whom 300 were evaluable. The mean age of patients was 72.6 (range 46.3-91.5) years, 255 (85%) had ≥ 6 bone metastases and 197 (65.5%) were pretreated with taxanes and/or abiraterone or enzalutamide (214 (71.3%)). Two-hundred and ninety (96.7%) patients were treated with Ra-223. Twenty-nine (9.7%), 104 (34.7%), 96 (32%) and 66 (22%) patients received Ra-223 as a first, second, third, ≥ fourth mCRPC treatment line, respectively. Patients received an average of 4.6 (SD 1.8) cycles of Ra-223, while 140 (46.7%) completed all six cycles. After a median follow-up of 13.2 months, PFS was 5.1 (CI 4.5-5.8) months and OS 15.2 (CI 12.8-17.6) months. Eighty-two (27.3%) patients were hospitalized during Ra-223 treatment (Serious AE). Grade ≥ 3 anemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia was found in 54 (18.0%), 8 (2.7%) and 11 (3.7%) patients, respectively. Other frequent AE’s (all grades) were nausea (90 (30%)), diarrhea (83 (27.7%)) and fatigue (178 (59.3%)). SREs were observed in 46 (15.3%) patients; 22 (7.3%) received radiotherapy, 6 (2%) developed pathologic fractures, 17 (5.6%) spinal cord compression and 1 (0.3%) received bone surgery during Ra-223 therapy. Conclusions: The non-study ROTOR population had characteristics, all grade AEs and OS comparable with the treatment arm of ALSYMPCA. Clinical trial information: NCT03223597.

Abstract:
Three clones containing satellite DNA sequences were selected from a randomly sheared genomic DNA library of Picea abies (clones PAF1, PAG004P22F (2F), and PAG004E03C (3C)). PAF1 contained 7 repeats that were 37–55 bp in length and had 68.9%–91.9% nucleotide sequence similarity. Two 2F repeats were 305–306 bp in length and had 83% sequence similarity. Two 3C repeats were 193–226 bp in length and had a sequence similarity of 78.6%. The copy number per 1C DNA of PAF1, 2F, and 3C repeats was 2.7 × 106, 2.9 × 105, and 2.9 × 104, respectively. In situ hybridization showed centromeric localization of these sequences in two chromosome pairs with PAF1, all pairs but one with 2F, and three pairs with 3C. Moreover, PAF1 sequences hybridized at secondary constrictions in six pairs, while 2F-related sequences were found at these chromosome regions only in four pairs. These hybridization patterns allow all chromosome pairs to be distinguished. PAF1-related repeats were contained in the intergenic spacer (IGS) of ribosomal cistrons in all six nucleolar organizers of the complement, while sequences related to 2F were found on only one side of the rDNA arrays in four pairs, showing structural diversity between rDNA regions of different chromosomes.

Abstract:
Production ofβ-glucosidase fromFusarium oxysporumwas investigated during degradation of some cellulosic substrates (Avicel,α-cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and methylcellulose). Optimized production ofβ-glucosidase using the cellulosic substrate that supported highest yield of enzyme was examined over 192 h fermentation period and varied pH of 3.0–11.0. Theβ-glucosidase produced was characterized for its suitability for industrial application. Methyl cellulose supported the highest yield ofβ-glucosidase (177.5 U/mg) at pH 6.0 and 30°C at 96 h of fermentation with liberation of 2.121 μmol/mL glucose. The crude enzyme had optimum activity at pH 5.0 and 70°C. The enzyme was stable over broad pH range of 4.0–7.0 with relative residual activity above 60% after 180 min of incubation.β-glucosidase demonstrated high thermostability with 83% of its original activity retained at 70°C after 180 min of incubation. The activity ofβ-glucosidase was enhanced by Mn2+and Fe2+with relative activities of 167.67% and 205.56%, respectively, at 5 mM and 360% and 315%, respectively, at 10 mM. The properties shown byβ-glucosidase suggest suitability of the enzyme for industrial applications in the improvement of hydrolysis of cellulosic compounds into fermentable sugars that can be used in energy generation and biofuel production.

Abstract:
Through a solution method utilizing benzoxazine chemistry, heteroatoms containing porous carbons (HCPCs) were synthesized from melamine, eugenol and formaldehyde, followed by carbonization in a nitrogen atmosphere and chemical activation with KOH at three different activation temperatures, 700, 800 and 900 °C. The introduction of melamine and eugenol to the monomer produced structurally bonded nitrogen and oxygen in porous carbons. Changing the calcination temperature can alter the doping level of heteroatoms and the particle size. These carbon materials exhibit large pore size distributions, tunable pore structure, high nitrogen and oxygen contents and high surface areas, which make them suitable for use as electrode materials in supercapacitors. As a result of activating at 800 °C, the sample HCPC-800 exhibits a high specific surface area of 984 m2/g, high oxygen and nitrogen content (3.64–6.26 wt.% and 10.61–13.65 wt.%), hierarchical pore structure, high degree of graphitization and good electrical conductivity. An outstanding rate capability is also demonstrated, as well as incredible longevity, retaining the capacitance up to 83% even after 5000 cycles in a solution containing 1 M H2SO4. Moreover, the activated porous carbon containing nitrogen exhibits a CO2 adsorption capacity of 3.6 and 3.5 mmol/g at 25 °C and 0 °C, respectively, which corresponds to equilibrium pressures of 1 bar.

Abstract:
Background:Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) affects both sexes equally, however there seem to be significant differences in disease expression between the genders. Objectives:To investigate gender differences in disease manifestations, patient-reported outcomes and comorbidities among patients with PsA.Methods:This cross-sectional study of patients with PsA followed at an academic rheumatology outpatient clinic between 1/6/2017 and 1/12/2019. We compared clinical characteristics, patient-reported outcomes, disease activity and comorbidities in male and female patients with PsA. All patients were over 18 years of age and fulfilled the CASPAR criteria for PsA. Differences between gender in values of continuous variables were assessed by T-tests or Mann-Whitney tests. The association between categorical variables and gender was assessed by Pearson chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test.Results:135 patients, 83 (62%) women and 52 (38%) men were included. Factors studied for gender differences are shown in Table 1. Women had significantly more tender (11 vs 3 p 0.001) and swollen (10 vs 3, p 0.013) joints, worse VAS (Visual Analogue Scale 0-10) pain (6 vs 5, p <0.001), higher ESR (20 vs 11, p 0.001) and worse DAPSA(Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis) (33 vs 18 p 0.006) and presented with more enthesitis (32.5% vs 13.5%, p 0.013). In contrast, men achieved Minimal Disease Activity (MDA) more frequently (26.9% vs 3.6% p<0.001)and had significantly more comorbidities than women. Polyarthritic disease was more frequent in women (62% vs 31%), although at non-significant levels. Conclusion:Male patients with PsA have more comorbidities, while female patients have greater disease activity, worse patient reported outcomes and achieve MDA less frequently.References:[1]Determinants of Patient-Reported Psoriatic Arthritis Impact of Disease: An Analysis of the Association with Gender in 458 Patients from 14 Countries.[2]Orbai AM, Perin J, et al Arthritis Care Res (Hoboken). 2019 Oct 14. doi: 10.1002/acr.24090.FactorWomen (n=83)Men (n=52)P valueMedian (25th-75thpercentile)Age55.1 (46.8-63)56.6 (50-65.7)0.419*BMI27.9 (24.9-35)30.1 (26.8-33.3)0.181#Pso duration/ PsA duration (years)8.3 (3.9-24.5)/ 2.4 (0-5.7)14.3 (4.7-22.7)/ 2.8 (0-6.4)0.451#/0.605#Smoking (Packyears)15 (5-30)27.5 (0-46)0.002#TJC/SJC11 (4-16)/ 10 (5-17)3 (0-13)/ 3 (0-14)0.001#/0.013#VASPain/ VASGA6 (5-8)/ 5 (3-6)5 (1-6)/ 4 (2-5)<0.001*/0.121*CRP/ ESR1.4 (0.4-3.2)/20(11-33)1.1 (0.2-2.7)/ 11 (7-18)0.398#/0.001#BSA/PASI0 (0-2)/0(0-2)2 (0-6)/1(0-4.8)0.139#/0.258#DAPSA33 (24.1-45)18 (9.3-45)0.006#n (%)Enthesitis/ Dactylitis27 (32.5)/ 20 (24.1)7 (13.5)/ 10 (19.2)0.013***/ 0.508***Dyslipidemia33 (40.2)31 (59.6)0.029***Liver3 (3.6)7 (13.5)0.046**Eyes0 (0)3 (5.8)0.055**Uricemia3 (3.6)8 (15.4)0.023**Depression or anxiety16 (19.3)11 (21.1)0.817***CAD2 (2.4)12 (23.1)<0.001**DM14 (16.9)12 (23.1)0.392MDA3 (3.6)14 (26.9)<0.001*: T-test with unequal variances;#: Mann-Whitney test; **: Fisher’s exact test; ***: Pearson chi2 test;Pso: Psoriasis; PsA: Psoriatic arthritis; BMI: Body mass index; TJC: Tender joint count; SJC: Swollen joint count; VASPain: Visual analogue scale 0-10 for pain; VASGA: Visual analogue scale 0-10 for general assessement; CRP: C-reactive protein; ESR: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate; BSA: Body surface area; PASI: Psoriasis area severity index; DAPSA: Disease activity in psoriatic arthritis; CAD: Coronary artery disease; DM: Diabetes mellitus; MDA: Minimal disease activity;Disclosure of Interests:ALEXANDROS GRIVAS: None declared, IRENE KAPNIARI: None declared, KIMON TZANNIS: None declared, Dimitrios Tseronis: None declared, Michail Aggelakos: None declared, Dimitra Kassara: None declared, KATERINA HAVATZA: None declared, Sofia Flouda: None declared, Dionysis Nikolopoulos: None declared, Theofanis Karageorgas: None declared, EVAGELIA PAPADAVID: None declared, DIMITRIOS BOUMPAS Grant/research support from: Unrestricted grant support from various pharmaceutical companies, PELAGIA KATSIMPRI: None declared

Abstract:
Background:C-reactive protein (CRP) is an important non-specific marker of both acute and chronic inflammation and can be elevated in patients with PsA. The role of CRP in the management of PsA is unclear. Objectives:To describe how CRP testing is implemented in real-world clinical practice for disease management of PsA.Methods:A cross-sectional study among patients with PsA recruited by rheumatologists and dermatologists was conducted in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and US. Data were collected from Jun-Aug 2018 via physician-completed patient record forms. Use of CRP testing was obtained by asking the physician to state (yes/no) whether CRP was used to aid PsA diagnosis, confirm the patient’s PsA and to monitor the patient’s PsA. Where physicians stated use of CRP testing, they were then asked to provide the number of CRP tests conducted in the last 12 months. Results:Data were collected for 2270 patients with PsA (595 US, 1675 EU5). In EU5, 78.7% of patients had CRP conducted to aid diagnosis (vs 43.4% in US) and 72.0% had CRP conducted to monitor their condition (vs 34.6% in US). Patients seen by rheumatologists (vs dermatologists) were at least 50% more likely to have CRP used for monitoring purposes, this difference being most pronounced in the US. In EU5, CRP was conducted a mean [SD] of 2.7 [1.7] times in the last 12 months, versus 2.0 [1.4] in the US. Abstract:
Dogs produce fewer sperm than other species. Furthermore, for French Bulldogs, anatomical peculiarities, low libido, and increased sensitivity to stress could cause further reductions in sperm count. The objective was to compare effects of semen collection at 24- versus 48-h intervals on semen quality of French Bulldogs. Five purebred French Bulldogs, 19 to 48 months old, were subjected to 5 semen collections (24 h apart). After a 30-day rest, collections were repeated, but the interval between collections was 48 h. Semen was collected (all 3 fractions) by digital manipulation without female stimuli. Volume was measured in a 20-mL syringe. Sperm concentration was determined with a Neubauer counting chamber. Motility and vigor were evaluated with a coverslipped drop of semen on a slide (preheated to 37°C). Motility was expressed as a percentage of motile sperm, and vigor was classified on a scale of 1 to 5. Morphology was evaluated by the panoptic method; 100 cells were counted and results expressed as the percentage of normal or defective cells. Effects of collection interval were analysed using PROC MIXED of SAS (animal as subject and collection as a repeated measure), with collections 2 to 5 compared with collection 1 (using the DIFF option). For collection every 24 h, the third, fourth, and fifth sperm collections were lower than the first collection for volume (10.4 ± 1.1, 8.3 ± 1.1, 5.6 ± 1.1, 3.5 ± 1.1, 2.4 ± 1.1 mL), concentration (437 ± 24, 448 ± 24, 370 ± 24, 322 ± 27, 258 ± 31 ×106 sperm mL–1), vigor (4.6 ± 0.2, 4.2 ± 0.2, 3.6 ± 0.2, 3.7 ± 0.2, 3 ± 0.2), and morphologically normal sperm (82 ± 2.2, 83 ± 2.2, 72 ± 2.2, 68 ± 2.5, 66 ± 2.9%). However, when the interval was increased to 48 h, only the fourth and fifth collections were lower (P < 0.05) than the first for volume (11.8 ± 1.1, 10.2 ± 1.1, 8.8 ± 1.1, 6.6 ± 1.1, 2.5 ± 1.1 mL), concentration (447 ± 24, 410 ± 24, 407 ± 24, 322 ± 24, 241 ± 31 ×106 sperm mL–1), vigor (5 ± 0.2, 4.8 ± 0.2, 4.4 ± 0.2, 4.2 ± 0.2, 4 ± 0.2), and sperm with normal morphology (92 ± 2.2, 90 ± 2.2, 87 ± 2.2, 80 ± 2.2, 81 ± 2.9%). Motility decreased (P < 0.05) following the fourth collection at 24-h intervals and decreased (P < 0.05) after the third collection at 48-h intervals. With a 24-h interval, 4 dogs had <60% motility lower at the fifth collection, whereas only 2 dogs had motility <60% on the fifth collection at 48-h intervals. In conclusion, semen collected at 48-h intervals was of better quality than semen collected at 24-h intervals.

Abstract:
Pendahuluan. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), Jakarta selama September hingga Oktober 2016. Insiden kematian 30 hari sebanyak 22,8% (IK95% 22,3-23,3). Rerata usia 68,3 (SB 6,7) tahun. Sebanyak 83 (27%) pasien dikategorikan triage merah. Rapid Emergency Medicine Score (REMS) has been known as a useful instrument to stratify patients in emergency department (ED) based on its ability to predict short term mortality. As the clinical characteristics of elderly patients visiting ED are frequently aypical, validation of REMS in this specific population is very important. To measure predictive validity of REMS in elderly patients visiting ED Methods. Prospective cohort study in elderly visiting ED of Cipto Mangunkusumo between September to October 2016. Subjects were followed for 30 days after visiting ED. Calibration (Hosmer Lemeshow test), discrimination (Area Under ROC Curve) and REMS predictive value of 30 days mortality were measured. Result. Of 321 elderly subjects visiting ED during study period, 306 subjects were included in the study. Among them, 163 (53,2%) were men. 30 days mortality incidence was 22,8% (95% CI 22,3-23,3). Median age was 68,3 (6,7) year. As many as 83 (27%) subjects were in red triage. There were 154 (50%) patients with REMS 0-7, 140 (46%) with REMS 8-17 and 12(4%) with REMS more than 17. Calibration plot shows r=0,23 with poor calibration (p=0,00) in Hosmer Lemeshow test. AUC of REMS in predicting 30 days mortality in elderly was 0,45 (95% CI 0,23-0,66). Conclusion. REMS shows poor calibration and discrimination in eldery patients visiting ED.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research was to study the effects of feeding different amounts of whole milk and the feeding of high quality feed on the development of heifers and their reproductive capacity and productivity of cows. The research was carried out at farm property "Chayka" (branch "Lisne" and "Chemer") on heifers of the Ukrainian black-and-white milk breed and "Shupiki" and "Agrarian Investment Union" (AIU) on the heifers of the Ukrainian red-and-white milk breed. Three schemes were used for drawing whole milk to calves. In the "Lisne" pumped 260 kg of milk for 65 days; "Chemer" – 310 kg for 45 days; "Shupiki" and "AIU" – 360 kg for 90 days. When conducting experiments, it was found that the average live weight of calves in 3 months. The age was 100,97 + 0,893 kg; in 6 months – 166.17 + 1,794 kg; in 9 months – 239.23 + 2.831 kg, in 12 months – 308,60 + 3,648 kg in 15 months – 371,50 + 5,008 kg. There was no special difference in the live weight of calves, drinking 310 and 360 kg of milk. Average daily gain of heifers were, in the main, within 660-895 g. in 3 months. The age of somewhat higher was the live weight of calves, who drank a large amount of whole milk. Through a clinical examination of calves and weighing, it was found that, on average, up to 80 kg live weight had 5.2% calves, from 81 to 100 kg 43.5%, and more than 100 kg – 51.3%. At the age of 3 months. A greater number of calves (52.8–69.1%) had a live weight of over 100 kg, and lagged in growth from 2.4 to 9.8%. More lag (9.2%) was in the group of calves, drinking 260 kg of milk (P > 0.999). In the experiments, the development and productivity of the daughters of the separate bulls of the Holstein breed of red-and-white suit was studied. Somewhat larger live weight had a heifer under the nickname "Lukka" at birth (39.2 kg) and within 3–15 months. Dairy productivity was higher among the daughters of the bug "Kantsler" (for 305 days of the first lactation 7438.7 kg). The duration of the service period on average was 142.7 days. On the chickens of 2014–2015 births at the state enterprise "Chemer" (Ukrainian black-and-white milk breed) and "Shupiki" (Ukrainian red-and-white milk breed) found that puberty occurs in 24–30% calves at the age of 9–10 months. Among the 700 goals. Stewed heifers were detected 6.4% with abnormalities of genital organs. In the study of fertilization of well-developed heifers 13–16 months. Age (459 with a live weight of 365–380 kg), it was found that the average fertility from the first insemination was 73.6%. It was better to have younger heifers (83–89%) with high live weight for fertilization. Total from 13 to 16 months. 84.3% of heifers were impregnated with age, and the rest were later. In the experiments, the milk productivity of cows of the Ukrainian black-and-white milk breed (512 lactas) and Ukrainian red-and-white milk breeds (406 lactations) was analyzed. Indicators indicate satisfactory milk productivity of cows for the first two lactations (over 7.5 thousand kg) under different schemes for giving to calves of milk. Conclusions: Feeding calves from 260 to 360 kg of whole milk and feeding the premature feed or full-grain granules provides their normal development in 90,2–97,6% of calves with daily increments of 660–895 g. The heifers which drank 310–360 kg milk smaller increments were observed in some calves of all groups after the milking period (from three to six months). The average fertility index of heifers from the first insemination is 73.6%. The best results are observed in heifers 13-15 months. Age for live weight 365–380 kg. The conditions of growing and feeding the experimental heifers in the milk and after-milk periods provide a relatively satisfactory milk yield (on average more than 7.5 thousand kg) of cows.

Abstract:
The study assessed agricultural extension agent’s perception of open data usage in agricultural communication in Abia State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 83 extension agents for the study. Data for the study was collected with the use of questionnaire and described with frequency counts, percentages and mean. A moderate percentage (68%) of extension agents were aware of open data with only 15% and 7% having high and very high level of awareness. A relatively high percentage (54%) understand what open data is all about with only 49% consenting to be involved in the use of open data mainly at a moderate level (66%). Extension agents mainly perceive open data to facilitate agricultural research ( x̄ = 3.2), facilitate access to research findings (x̄ = 3.2), give access to the work of other extension agents in other states ( x̄ = 3.2), expose them to innovation in agriculture ( x̄ = 3.2) and ensure timely access to all necessary information (x̄ = 3.1). The major challenges to the use of open data among extension agents were lack of fund to purchase internet bundle ( x̄ = 2.2), unavailability of internet facilities( x̄ = 2.1), lack of basic ICT facilities ( x̄ = 2.1) as well as lack of adequate knowledge of the use of ICT( x̄ = 2.0) and open data ( x̄ = 2.0). Propagation of the use of open data could be done mainly by provision of ICTs in offices ( = 3.6), training of extension agents to understand the concept of open data ( x̄ = 3.6) and provision of internet facilities for extension agents ( x̄ = 3.5). The study emphasized the need for Government through the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) to provide basic ICT tools in offices and provision of internet facilities to enable extension agents maximize the use of open data. Abstract:
Background. Semirigid spine fixation systems utilizing nonmetallic materials have emerged as a promising innovation to overcome the inherent disadvantages of metal instrumentation in spine surgery. This study tests the mechanical properties of a novel spine fixation system made entirely of carbon-fiber-reinforced PEEK (CFR-PEEK) composite material (CarboClear System, CarboFix Orthopedics Ltd., Israel). Methods. An in vitro mechanical evaluation of the CFR-PEEK CarboClear system was conducted in compliance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F1717, F2193, and F543 standards. Results. The mean bending yield load, bending ultimate load, and bending stiffness of the construct were 322 N, 363 N, and 45 N/mm, respectively. All tested samples completed 5 × 106 dynamic cycles successfully, with no evidence of fatigue failure at increasing load levels, up to 83% of ultimate bending load. The mean torsional stiffness was 1.0 Nm/deg and the mean screw axial pull-out strength was 2,037 N. Conclusion. The CarboClear Pedicle Screw System has mechanical properties comparable to those of other commonly used titanium-made systems, with superior fatigue properties. The fatigue resistance, modulus of elasticity which is very similar to that of bone, radiolucency, and CT/MRI artifact-free feature of this spine fixation system made entirely of CFR-PEEK may offer advantages over traditional spine fixation systems made of metal alloys.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of synchronization treatment and oestrus expression on conception rates and pregnancy losses in recipients receiving in vitro-produced (IVP) embryos. Crossbred beef cows (n = 407) with a corpus luteum (CL) determined by ultrasonography and body condition between 2.5 and 4.5 (1 to 5 scale) received a progesterone-releasing device (DIB 0.5 g, Zoetis, Argentina) and 2 mg of oestradiol benzoate (EB, Gonadiol, Zoetis) on Day 0 and were randomly allocated to 1 of 2 treatments. Recipients in the Conventional group (n = 201) had their devices removed and received 500 µg of cloprostenol (PGF, Ciclase, Zoetis), 0.5 mg of oestradiol cypionate (ECP, Cipiosyn, Zoetis), and 400 IU of eCG (Novormón, Zoetis) on Day 8. Recipients in the J-Synch group (n = 206) had their devices removed and received PGF and eCG on Day 6. All recipients were tail-painted at device removal to determine the presence of oestrus on Day 10 (a.m.) in the Conventional group and on Day 9 (a.m.) in the J-Synch group. All recipients not in oestrus in both groups received 100 µg of gonadorelin (GnRH, Ovurelin, Bayer, New Zealand) at that time. In addition, the paint was observed again in the p.m. and it was recorded. Recipients were examined by ultrasonography 7 days after oestrus or GnRH treatment (Day 16 in the J-Synch group and Day 17 in the Conventional group) and those with a CL = 16 mm in diameter received an IVP fresh embryo non-surgically. Pregnancy was determined by ultrasonography 23 and 53 days after embryo transfer and calving rates were recorded. Data were analysed using generalized linear models for binary data and a logit link (InfoStat, https://www.infostat.com.ar/). The proportion of recipients transferred was higher (P < 0.05) in the Conventional group (90.0%, 180/201) than in the J-Synch group (83.5%, 172/206). However, conception rates and the percentage of recipients pregnant/treated did not differ between groups (Conventional: 36.6%; 66/180 and 32.8%; 66/201 v. J-Synch: 39.0%; 67/172 and 32.5%; 67/206). Although no interaction was detected between treatments and oestrus expression, the conception rate was higher (P < 0.05) in recipients showing oestrus (39.1%, 124/317) than in those not showing oestrus (25.7%, 9/35). Furthermore, embryo/fetal losses between 30 and 60 days were not affected by the synchronization treatment (P > 0.11), but they were lower (P < 0.01) in recipients showing oestrus (5.6%, 7/124) than in those not showing oestrus (66.7%, 6/9). Similarly, fetal losses between 60 days and calving tended to be lower (P < 0.06) in recipients showing oestrus (20.5%, 24/117) than in those not showing oestrus (66.7%; 2/3). Calving rates were higher in recipients showing oestrus (29.3%, 93/317) than in those not showing oestrus (2.9%, 1/35; P < 0.01). In conclusion, although both synchronization treatments performed similarly, recipients not showing oestrus after progesterone device removal had lower conception rates and higher pregnancy losses than those showing oestrus at the expected time after treatment.
