COELHO, G.; SILVA, A.M. ; SILVA, R.A. ; OLIVEIRA, P.M. ; SILVA. A.C. ; SATO, F.S.; LAGO, F.J. IRRIGATION PERIODS AND FERTILIZER SPLITTING ON THE ARABIC COFFEE PLANT PRODUCTIVITY 2 ABSTRACT In an experiment carried out in a Coffea arabica L coffee plantation, species Catuaí - Red (IAC 44), cultivated 17 years ago, with spacing of 3.5 m among lines and 0.8 m among plants, the effect of different fertilizer splitting and irrigation periods on the coffee plant productivity was evaluated. The experimental design consisted of 4 blocks, containing 4 random portions (P4 = 36; P3 = 24; P2 = 12 and P1 = 4 fertilizer splitting through fertigation). Each portion was divided into 5 non random sub portions, in which 4 sub portions represented irrigation periods (A - from 06/01 to 09/30; B - from 07/15 to 09/30, C - from 09/01 to 09/30, D - from 01/09 to 30/09 fertilized manually) and a sub portion without irrigation (E) fertilized with conventional fertilizer. The culture productivity (crop 01/02) per kg of processed coffee per hectare underwent variance analysis, through which it was verified that there was only a significant effect for the irrigation period factor, and that treatment “A” presented highest productivity. Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND The CeTeG/NOA-09 trial showed that lomustine/temozolomide chemotherapy prolongs survival for newly diagnosed MGMT-methylated glioblastoma patients. Previous reports on temozolomide monotherapy suggested, that the survival benefit of temozolomide in MGMT-methylated tumors may be restricted to the RTK II methylation subgroup and absent in RTK I and MES subgroups. To identify patients with a particularly strong benefit from CCNU/TMZ, we explored the association of methylation subgroups with outcome after lomustine/temozolomide therapy. METHODS All patients from the CeTeG/NOA-09 trial with sufficiently available tumor tissue (n = 98) underwent 850K methylation array analysis of their tumor and methylation subgroup annotation (Heidelberg brain tumor methylation classifier v11b4; calibrated score > 0.5 required). Overall survival (OS) was compared between a pooled cohort of tumors of the RTK I/MES subgroups and RTK II tumors. RESULTS In the CCNU/TMZ arm of CeTeG/NOA-09, OS was prolonged in RTK I/MES (n = 16; median not reached, 4-year OS 69%) as compared to RTK II patients (n = 14; median 20.6 months, 4-year OS 23%; p = 0.004 logrank test). In the standard temozolomide arm of CeTeG/NOA-09, OS tended to be shorter in RTK I/MES (n = 7; median 23.7 months, 4-year OS 17%) as compared to RTK II patients (n = 17; median 35.2 months; 4-year OS 38%, p = 0.15). CONCLUSION The CCNU/TMZ-dependent survival prolongation in patients with RTK I/MES tumors as opposed to RTK II seen in CeTeG/NOA-09 suggests that methylation-based subgrouping could be predictive for CCNU/TMZ efficacy in newly diagnosed MGMT-methylated glioblastoma.

Abstract:
Objective.Although HLA-DRB1 shared epitope (SE) alleles and HLA-DRB1*09:01 have repeatedly been shown to be associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the effect of each allele on levels of anticyclic citrullinated peptide autoantibodies (anti-CCP) and interaction with cigarette smoking in RA remains to be fully defined. We investigated whether HLA-DRB1 risk alleles influence anti-CCP levels and whether each allele interacts with smoking in anti-CCP-positive or -negative RA.Methods.All patients with RA (n = 1924) and controls (n = 1119) were Korean. The HLA-DRB1 4-digit genotyping was performed by standard PCR-sequencing based typing method. OR and biologic interactions as departures from additivity or multiplicity were analyzed by logistic regression.Results.SE alleles were significantly associated with increased anti-CCP levels. Conversely, HLA-DRB1*09:01 was associated with reduced levels, in both SE-positive and SE-negative patients. Each of SE alleles interacted significantly with smoking, whereas HLA-DRB1*09:01 did not. Interactions between the 2 most significant risk alleles, HLA-DRB1*04:05 and HLA-DRB1*09:01, (attributable proportion = 0.68, 95% CI 0.46–0.89, multiplicity p = 0.012) significantly increased RA susceptibility regardless of anti-CCP and smoking status. Smoking increased the risk for RA by significant interaction with the heterozygote HLA-DRB1*04:05/*09:01.Conclusion.HLA-DRB1*09:01 differs from SE alleles with regard to anti-CCP levels and interaction with smoking, suggesting a distinct mechanism of HLA-DRB1*09:01 in the pathogenesis of RA that may bypass anti-CCP formation. Also, a significant increase of the HLA-DRB1*04:05/ *09:01 heterozygote in RA susceptibility may be attributable to the synergistic contribution of 2 different pathways in which 2 alleles participate independently.

Abstract:
The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Jessore during consecutive two years (2007-08 and 2008-09) to find out the comparative performance of different intercropped lentil with Mukhikachu for getting higher yield and economic return. Five treatments comprised of T1= Sole lentil (30 cm apart continuous seeding), T2 = Sole mukhikachu [(double row) = 20 cm/55/20 cm x 45 cm], T3= Mukhikachu (double row) + 1 row of lentil 30 cm apart (33% seeding ratio) between 2 double row of mukhikachu, T4 = Mukhikachu (double row) + 2 rows of lentil 30 cm apart (66%) between 2 double row of mukhikachu and T5= Mukhikachu (double row) + lentil broadcast (100%). Intercropping systems did not affect the rhizome yield of mukhikachu significantly but affected the seed yield of lentil. Lentil and mukhikachu equivalent yield were the highest (5.87 in 2007-08 and 6.09 t/ha in 2008-09, and 27.24 in 2007-08 and 30.45 t/ha in 2008-09, respectively) in treatment T4. This treatment also gave the highest LER (1.63 in 2007-08 and 1.54 in 2008-09), net return (Tk. 290508 in 2007-08 and Tk. 368900/ha in 2008-09) with BCR of 4.19 in 2007-08 and 4.88 in 2008-09, respectively. It reveals that lentil could be grown easily in double row system of Mukhikachu without hampering yield of Mukhikachu with higher benefit and also enhanced lentil production in the area. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Considering the cashew tree’s relevance and the limitations imposed by salinity stress in semi-arid regions, the use of alternatives capable of mitigating the harmful effects due to salinity is of great importance to the production sector. The use of grafted plants, especially with rootstock made of tolerant materials, influences the accumulation of toxic ions in leaves of grafted seedlings. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate morphophysiological characteristics and leaf concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca+2 of combinations of scion and rootstock of early dwarf cashew, contrasting in terms of salinity tolerance. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with five replicates, in a 4 × 3 factorial arrangement, corresponding to four dwarf cashew scion/rootstock combinations (self-graft CCP 09, CCP 09/CCP 76, self-graft CCP 76, and CCP 76/CCP 09) and three NaCl concentrations (0, 50, and 100 mM L-1). Height, number of leaves, leaf area, dry matter, tolerance index and leaf concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca+2 were evaluated after 30 days of application of NaCl concentrations. The scion/rootstock combination CCP 76/09 showed tolerance to 50 mM L-1, due to the increase of leaf area and number of leaves. The scion/rootstock combination CCP 76/09 was more suitable, as it kept the leaf K+ concentration and had the lowest Na+ concentration.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the effects of mixed fat replacers on the physicochemical and sensorial properties of low-fat chocolate ice cream. Fat replacers were the mixtures of whey protein isolate (WPI) and three types of carbohydrate-based fat replacers: pregelatinized starch (Alpha-starch), hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate (ADSSU 09), or inulin at the ratios of 4:1, 1:1, and 1:4 (w/w). The qualities of the low-fat formulations (2.5% fat) were compared to those of the standard or control (8.5% fat). It was found that samples added with WPI and ADS-SU 09 at a ratio of 1:1 had the lowest melting rate (p 0.05). The pH of the samples was found to increase when the proportion of carbohydrate-based fat replacers rose. The use of WPI and inulin showed that when the level of inulin increased, the total soluble solid content decreased. The hardness values of all the samples ranged between 72.45 to 105.09 N. The samples incorporated with WPI and ADS-SU 09 at 1:4 ratio and with WPI and Alpha-starch at 1:4 ratio had higher hardness values than the other samples, and the difference was statistically significant (p 0.05). Our findings displayed that the fat replacer mixtures could reduce the contents of fat and reducing sugar (p 0.05) as compared to the control, but they had an apparent higher protein content (p 0.05). Increasing the proportion of carbohydrate-based fat replacers improved some physicochemical and sensory properties of the ice creams. In this case, the properties of low-fat chocolate ice cream incorporated with WPI and Alpha-starch at a ratio of 4:1 were found to have most closely resembled the properties of the standard sample.

Abstract:
Abstract Fifty percent of the United States population is predicted to be obese (body mass index > 30) by 2030. Obese individuals are considered a high-risk group for developing severe influenza disease. To compound this, studies have shown that inactivated influenza vaccination has decreased efficacy in this high-risk population. However, the efficacy of live-attenuated vaccines has not been investigated to date. Therefore, we sought to determine if a cold-adapted A/California/04/2009 (caCA/09) H1N1 influenza virus vaccine protected obese mice from lethal influenza virus challenge. In these studies, we demonstrate that intranasal administration of caCA/09 vaccine protected genetically and diet-induced obese (DIO) mice from a lethal challenge with wild-type influenza virus (CA/09) 4 weeks post-vaccination. Protection was not due to route of administration, as intranasal vaccination with inactivated caCA/09 virus was not protective. Unlike non-vaccinated obese mice, caCA/09 vaccinated obese mice cleared the virus and controlled viral spread, as determined by lung TCID50 and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Protection of obese mice lasts at least 17 weeks post-vaccination. Mechanistically, we found that effector memory CD4 and CD8 T cells were increased in lungs of vaccinated mice that may provide heterosubtypic protection. Indeed, the vaccinated obese mice were protected from a lethal challenge with an H5 deselected influenza virus. In conclusion, live-attenuated virus vaccination is a viable option to protect obese hosts against increased disease severity and mortality.

Abstract:
The National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) is a cross-sectional survey designed to gather data representative of the UK population on food consumption, nutrient intakes and nutritional status. The objectives of the present paper were to identify and describe food consumption and nutrient intakes in the UK from the first year of the NDNS rolling programme (2008–09) and compare these with the 2000–01 NDNS of adults aged 19–64 years and the 1997 NDNS of young people aged 4–18 years. Differences in median daily food consumption and nutrient intakes between the surveys were compared by sex and age group (4–10 years, 11–18 years and 19–64 years). There were no changes in energy, total fat or carbohydrate intakes between the surveys. Children aged 4–10 years had significantly lower consumption of soft drinks (not low calorie), crisps and savoury snacks and chocolate confectionery in 2008–09 than in 1997 (all P < 0·0001). The percentage contribution of non-milk extrinsic sugars to food energy was also significantly lower than in 1997 in children aged 4–10 years (P < 0·0001), contributing 13·7–14·6 % in 2008–09 compared with 16·8 % in 1997. These changes were not as marked in older children and there were no changes in these foods and nutrients in adults. There was still a substantial proportion (46 %) of girls aged 11–18 years and women aged 19–64 years (21 %) with mean daily Fe intakes below the lower reference nutrient intake. Since previous surveys there have been some positive changes in intakes especially in younger children. However, further attention is required in other groups, in particular adolescent girls.

Early-age children live in the world of a play because that's needed a learning medium that is not only interactive but also interesting or more game. Age 4-6 years is a stage of age in an early age range (so-called pre-school age) in which the child is being prepared to enter a formal learning process. Expected in this age range, children have a more focused attitude of learning, not just playing, but began to recognize the learning process behind the game. The result of this research is that Game can be a tool in practicing arithmetic as well as with this game, children who follow numeracy lessons can practice counting by using existing computer facilities. The product of this research produced a medium or a means to introduce computer technology to children from an early age. Keyword: E-Learning, Multimedia, Game Education, Early-age children
