Lecturas de poesía chilena. De Altazor a la Bandera de Chile (2020) de María Inés Zaldívar tiene su propia hoja de ruta, traza sus recorridos, se detiene y avanza en un viaje crítico que contempla paradas en escrituras que van desde comienzos del siglo XX hasta el siglo XXI. La autora dibuja su plan de vuelo —lecturas de poesía chilena— y enuncia los medios con los cuales emprenderá su aventura analítica. El viaje altazoriano, que da inicio a las lecturas poéticas, connota la ruta crítica que enmarca el libro, un recorrido que se hace con una mirada que contempla a la viajera como académica y poeta. Esta doble militancia crítica la impulsa a emprender —cual Altazor— un viaje que la impulsa a aterrizar a fin de mirar con ojos propios su visión sobre la poesía chilena: “compartir un conjunto . . . de mis lecturas sobre poesía chilena del siglo XX e inicios del XXI” (9), esto es, aproximaciones, “lecturas posibles” (Bianchi). La estudiosa, por tanto, traza y recorre un “mapa poético alternativo” (10) que desplaza la “mirada analítica literatosa” (185) para detenerse en el placer del texto, como nos diría Barthes, y no en las “teorías de turno” (10). En efecto, Lecturas… es un viaje poético que privilegia el “cuerpo de la voz” de las textualidades (Masiello) para abandonar la “sordera [y así] apreciar todo aquello que no ha calzado con lo que estamos preparados y dispuestos a oír y valorar como poético” (138). Esta declaración explicita una ética crítica, cuyos principios responden a una responsabilidad para con las voces silenciadas en la poesía chilena, principalmente, las mujeres. El libro consta de quince lecturas que se dividen en dos grandes apartados: “Primera Mitad del Siglo XX” (13-115) y “Segunda Mitad del siglo XX” (127-215), las cuales pueden ser leídas de manera individual o en relación. La autora traza su hoja de ruta, mas los lectores pueden decidir desviarse o tomar atajos.

The results of research (2016-2018) into productivity, adaptability and nutritional value of poaceous crops (forage millet, Sudan grass) and legumes (fodder beans, spring vetch, garden peas) are presented and analyzed. The research was conducted on meadow chernozem mealy-carbonate soil, light loam by granulometric composition, in the forest-steppe zone of Trans-Baikal Territory. Agricultural technology used for fodder crop cultivation was common for this area. The objects of the research were legumes (Sibirskiye forage beans, Novosibirskaya spring vetch, Holik garden peas), and poaceous varieties (Bystroe forage millet, Novosibirskaya 84 Sudan grass). The experimental work was carried out in accordance with the generally accepted guidelines for field experiments. All the forage crops under study have formed a fairly high productivity: the yield of green mass was 13.0-18.2 t/ha, dry matter – 2.6-3.2, feed units – 2.2-2.7 t/ha, digestible protein – 220-567 kg/ha, gross energy – 26.5-32.2 GJ/ha, with availability of digestible protein 100-210 g per one feed unit. Among leguminous crops, spring vetch and fodder beans had an advantage with the green mass yield of 13.3-15.0 t/ha, the amount of dry matter of 3.1-3.2, feed units of 2.6-2.7 t/ha, digestible protein 494–567 kg/ha, gross energy 32.0–32.2 GJ/ha, with availability of digestible protein of 190–210 g per one feed unit. Garden peas were inferior to spring vetch and fodder beans in yield by 2.3-13.3%, dry matter – by 9.6-12.5, feed units – by 3.8-7.4, digestible protein – by 4.9-17.1, gross energy – by 8.1–8.7%. Among poaceous crops, agrocenoses of Sudan grass had an advantage in productivity and nutritional value. They formed the yield of green mass 18.2 t/ha, the amount of dry matter 3.1, feed units 2.5 t/ha, digestible protein 300 kg/ha, gross energy 31.3 GJ/ha, with availability of digestible protein of 120 g per one feed unit. Fodder millet was inferior to Sudan grass in all respects by 12.0–26.7%, respectively.

Potential of Sumilink-200 was investigated in a typical natural rubber-based tread compound in connection with its ability to act as a coupling agent for carbon black to reduce hysteresis loss of the compound. Optimum physical properties were obtained at 2 phr loading of Sumilink-200. At this loading, tensile modulus at 300% elongation improved by 9.6% with a reduction in visco-elastic energy dissipation (loss tangent) at 60°C by 8.3% over the control compound. The abrasion resistance properties of the compounds found to remain unaffected with the introduction of Sumilink-200.

AbstractSchwertmannite is a new oxyhydroxysulphate of iron from the Pyhäisalmi sulphide mine, Province of Oulu, Finland. It occurs there, and elsewhere, as an ochreous precipitate from acid, sulphate-rich waters. Associated minerals at other localities may include jarosite, natrojarosite, goethite and ferrihydrite. Schwertmannite is a poorly crystalline, yellowish brown mineral with a fibrous morphology under the electron microscope. A high specific surface area in the range of 100 to 200 m2/g, rapid dissolution in cold, 5MHCl or in ammonium oxalate at pH 3, and pronounced X-ray diffraction line broadening are consistent with its poorly crystalline character.Colour parameters for the type specimen as related to CIE illuminant C are L* = 53.85, a* = + 15.93, and b* = +47.96. Chemical analysis gives Fe2O3, 62.6; SO3, 12.7; CO2, 1.5; H2O−, 10.2; H2O+, 12.9; total 99.9 wt.%. These data yield an empirical unit cell formula of Fe16O16(OH)9.6(SO4)3.2·10H2O after exclusion of CO2and H2O−. The most general simplified formula is Fe16O16(OH)y(SO4)z·nH2O, where 16 −y= 2zand 2.0 ⩽z⩽ 3.5. Schwertmannite has a structure akin to that of akaganéite (nominally β-FeOOH) with a doubledcdimension. Its X-ray powder diffraction pattern consists of eight broad peaks [dobsin (Iobs) (hkl)] 4.86(37)(200,111); 3.39(46)(310); 2.55(100)(212); 2.28(23)(302); 1.95(12)(412); 1.66(21)(522); 1.51(24)(004); and 1.46(18)(204,542), givinga= 10.66(4),c= 6.04(1) Å, andV= 686(6) Å3for a primitive, tetragonal unit cell. The probable space group isP4/m. Upon heating, schwertmannite transforms to hematite with Fe2(SO4)3occurring as an intermediate phase. Bidentate bridging complexes between Fe and SO4are apparent in infrared spectra. Mössbauer data show the Fe in schwertmannite to be exclusively trivalent and in octahedral coordination; it has a Néel temperature of 75 ± 5 K and a saturation magnetic hyperfine field of about 45.6 T. Pronounced asymmetry of the Mössbauer spectra indicates different locations for Fe atoms relative to SO4groups in the structure. The name is for Udo Schwertmann, professor of soil science at the Technical University of Munich.

Abstract Background: Soluble fibrin complex (SFC), composed of fibrin monomer and fibrinogen derivatives, is known to exist in the circulating blood in patients with thrombosis. Its detection and quantification are useful for obtaining information about the condition and degree of intravascular coagulation in early-stage thrombosis, but there is no rapid method to measure SFC in plasma for clinical use. Methods: We obtained a monoclonal antibody that specifically reacts with SFC, with desAA-fibrin as the immunogen, and developed a rapid and sensitive latex immunoturbidimetric assay (LIA) using latex-immobilized anti-SFC monoclonal antibody. The assay system was based on the increase in turbidity induced by the reaction of the latex-immobilized anti-SFC monoclonal antibody with SFC in plasma, and the assay procedure was fully automated on a Hitachi 911 analyzer. Results: The method had an analytical range of 3–300 mg/L. Intra- and interassay precision studies indicated that this system provided reproducible data (CVs <3.0% and <2.0%, respectively). The assay detection limit was <0.5 mg/L. There was no interference from bilirubin (up to 440 mg/L), hemoglobin (up to 9.6 g/L), Intralipid (up to 10%), D-dimer (up to 200 mg/L), and rheumatoid factor (up to 470 000 IU/L). SFC concentrations in plasma from patients with thrombotic diseases [mean (SD), 48.9 (57.6) mg/L; n = 160) were significantly higher than those in plasma from healthy individuals [1.8 (2.1) mg/L; P <0.001; n = 304]. Conclusion: In terms of linearity, precision, and sensitivity, the LIA, performed on a Hitachi 911 automated analyzer, may be useful for measurement of SFC in plasma.

<p class="abstract">Reporting statistical tests for baseline measures of clinical trials does not make sense since the statistical significance is dependent on sample size, as a large trial can find significance in the same difference that a small trial did not find to be statistically significant. We use 3 published trials using the same baseline measures to provide the relationship between trial sample size and p value. For trial 1 sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, p=0.01, 10.4±3.4 vs. 9.6±3.2, difference=0.8; p=0.007 for vasopressors, 83.0% vs. 72.6%. Trial 2 has SOFA score 11±3 vs. 12±3, difference=1, p=0.42. Trial 3 has vasopressors 73% vs. 83%, p=0.21. Based on trial 2, supine group has a mean of 12 and an SD of 3 for SOFA score, while prone group has a mean of 11 and an SD of 3 for SOFA score. The p values are 0.29850, 0.09877, 0.01940, 0.00094, 0.00005, and &lt;0.00001 when n (per arm) is 20, 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400, respectively. Based on trial 3 information, the vasopressors percentages are 73.0% in the supine group vs. 83.0% in the prone group. The p values are 0.4452, 0.2274, 0.0878, 0.0158, 0.0031, and 0.0006 when n (per arm) is 20, 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400, respectively. Small trials provide larger p values than big trials for the same baseline differences. We cannot define the imbalance in baseline measures only based on these p values. There is no statistical basis for advocating the baseline difference tests</p>

The Biche-Kadyr-Oos epithermal Au-Ag ore occurrence is a prospective object in the Ak-Sug porphyry copper ore cluster (Eastern Sayan) in the northern part of the Central Asian orogenic belt (CAOB). The mineralization consists of gold-sulfide-quartz and gold-polysulfide-carbonate-quartz veins with argillic zones in the Lower Cambrian volcanic-sedimentary rocks. The origin of the Au-Ag ore occurrence is still debatable. To determine the origin, we examined the mineralogical and geochemical features, conditions of formation, and fluid sources of the Biche-Kadyr-Oos ore. A mineralogical and geochemical investigation outlines three stages of mineral formation: early argillic stage; gold-sulfide-quartz stage with pyrite, marcasite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, less frequently sphalerite, hessite, gold, and electrum; and late gold-polysulfide-carbonate-quartz stage with gold, electrum, Hg-electrum, Se-acanthite, Se-galena, bornite, tennantite, tetrahedrite, hessite, tellurobismuthite, bismuthinite, matildite, jamesonite, ourayite, native Bi, and barite. Fluid inclusion study (thermometry, Raman spectroscopy) in quartz and mineral thermometry (electrum and sphalerite paragenesis) determined that ore veins were formed at P~0.5 kbar from CO2-water Na-K-chloride fluid (4.9–9.6 wt % NaCl eqv) and temperatures from 300 to 200 °C (early gold-sulfide-quartz veins at 300–230 °C, and late gold-polysulfide-carbonate-quartz veins at 290–200 °C) and variations in fO2, fS2, fSe2 and fTe2. The S isotopic composition in sulfides and δ34SH2S values of the fluid are +1.3‰ and +4.7‰, respectively, (T = 300–275 °C) indicating magmatic S in ore formation. The oxygen isotope data indicate that during the formation of veins, the magmatic fluid mixed with meteoric water (δ18Ofluid is from +3.4 to +6.4‰). The isotopic data that were obtained combined with mineralogical and geochemical features and conditions of ore formation indicate the similarity of Biche-Kadyr-Oos ore occurrence with epithermal Au-Ag deposits of intermediate sulfidation (IS) type. The presence of epithermal Au-Ag mineralization of the Biche-Kadyr-Oos IS type in ore cluster of the Ak-Sug Cu-Au-Mo porphyry deposit indicates the existence of a single porphyry-epithermal ore-magmatic system.

Методологічною базою роботи стали наукові доробки українських та іноземних фахівців у галузі виробництва та аналізу харчових добавок. Враховуючи те, що харчування є однією з найголовніших потреб людини, автори основну увагу звертають на добавки натурального походження, які мають позитивний вплив на організм. При написанні статті були використані такі методи дослідження, як логічне узагальнення, системний підхід та теоретичний пошук, що ґрунтуються на пошуку та обробці наукової інформації. Результати. Якісна їжа є постачальником енергії для розвитку та життєдіяльності організму, сприяє підтриманню здоров’я в належному стані, підвищує працездатність людини та її самопочуття. Головним критерієм використання харчових добавок повинна бути їх безпечність, і навіть при тривалому зберіганні та споживанні вони не повинні загрожувати здоров’ю людини. Охарактеризовано харчові добавки натурального походження, які позитивно впливають на організм людини. Такий ефект здійснюють натуральні пігменти куркумін Е 100, хлорофіл Е 140, каротин Е 160, органічні кислоти – сорбінова E 200, яблучна Е 296, аскорбінова Е 300, жироподібні речовини (альфа-токоферол Е 307), вуглеводи та їх похідні (пектин Е 440, целюлоза Е 460, глюконат заліза (Е 579), багатоатомні спирти мальтит E 965, ксиліт Е 967, солі амінокислот та білки (глутамат натрію Е 621, колаген Е 1020). Використання таких речовин на противагу токсичним сполукам є важливим аспектом дотримання принципів харчової безпеки. Встановлено, що серед харчових добавок натурального походження найбільше природних барвників, які отримують з рослин, тварин, мікроорганізмів, мінералів тощо. Практична значимість. Робота має різнобічне спрямування й представляє науковий інтерес не лише для науковців, магістрів й спеціалістів галузі товарознавства продовольчих товарів, технології харчування, гігієни харчування, біології, медицини, а також розрахована на широке коло фахівців, що працюють у суміжних й дотичних, до вищенаведених, галузях народного господарства України. Матеріал також може бути цікавим для пересічних споживачів, що опікуються власним здоров’ям та цікавляться інноваціями у товарознавстві. Отримані результати можуть бути використані для аналізу та дослідження вмісту харчових добавок.

Nanoclusters and nanocrystals of the room temperature magnetic spinel CuCr2S4 synthesized using a facile solution-based method were examined by magnetic resonance in a wide frequency range 9.6÷80 GHz and at temperatures down to 4.2 K. Decreasing of the resonance field and broadening of the resonance lines are found below ∼ 50 K for both the nanocluster and nanocube samples due to the freezing of magnetic moments of nanocubes and nanocrystalline particles constituting nanoclusters. Additional blocking temperature Tb≅300 K appears in nanoclusters due to the freezing of the magnetic moment of the entire cluster as a whole. Below this temperature, an additional low-field resonance line is found in the resonance spectra of nanoclusters at X-band.

Abstract Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.), produced in the traditional small-scale rainfed sector of Western Sudan, accounts for 80% of the total annual groundnut acreage, producing 70% of the total production. Low productivity of groundnut is a characteristic feature in North Kordofan State, which is characterized as the most vulnerable state to the impact of climate change. Terminal drought stress resulting from reduction in rainfall amount and distribution at the end of the season is the most deleterious drought period, as it coincides with groundnut pod filling and maturation periods. High and stable yields under subsistence farming conditions in North Kordofan State could be realized only by using adapted high-yielding, drought-tolerant genotypes. Mutation induction by gamma-rays of 200 and 300 Gy was utilized to irradiate 500 dry seeds of the Spanish-type groundnut genotypes, Barberton, Sodari, ICGV 89104, ICGV 86743, ICGV 86744 and ICG 221, aiming at increasing the chances of obtaining genotypes with the desired drought-tolerant traits. Mutants were selected from the M₃ plants using visual morphological traits. Groundnut mutants at the M₄ and M₅ generations, advanced by single seed descent, were evaluated for end-of-season drought tolerance. A terminal drought period of 25 days was imposed after 60 days from planting, using a rainout shelter. Mutants that survived 25 days of terminal drought stress were further evaluated for agronomic performance under rainfed field conditions. The groundnut mutant, Barberton-b-30-3-B, produced 1024 kg/ha, a significantly higher mean pod yield over 12 seasons compared with 926 kg/ha for 'Gubeish', the widely grown released check cultivar, showing overall yield advantage of 11%. Under 5 years of participatory research, Barberton-b-30-3-B was ranked the best with yield increment of 21% over 'Gubeish' under the mother trials. The GGE biplot analysis for 12 and five seasons, respectively, showed that Barberton-b-30-3-B was stable and produced a good yield in both high and low rainfall situations. Hence, Barberton-b-30-3-B was found to be a suitable mutant for sustainable profitable yields in the marginal dry lands of North Kordofan State and was officially released as 'Tafra-1' by the National Variety Release Committee during its second meeting of April 2018.

AbstractVegetation covers were one of the first land covers to receive special attention when thematic Land Use Cover (LUC) maps first appeared. Interest in this subject has remained strong since then because of the valuable information that these datasets provide for monitoring forests, deforestation and climate change, among other issues. A wide variety of thematic LUC datasets characterizing vegetation covers are currently available. In this chapter, we review eleven of these datasets, most of which provide long series of LUC maps, so permitting the study of LUC change. In thematic terms, most of the maps provide information on the vegetation or tree cover fraction per pixel, so characterizing the vegetation covers on Earth in great detail. A specific dataset has been found that maps mangrove distribution across the globe at 30 m for one date (1997/00). It is not included in this review because of its high specificity, which means it is only of interest to certain communities of users. Of all the products reviewed here, the World’s Forests 2000 is probably the most basic, providing information about three wooded cover categories for the year 1995/96 at a spatial resolution of 1 km. SYNMAP is a very specific thematic map designed to meet the needs of the carbon cycle and vegetation modelling community, which was produced at a spatial resolution of 1 km and with a legend of 48 categories. Among the maps providing information on the fraction of vegetation cover per pixel, the Hybrid Forest Mask 2000 (1 km) and the PTC Global Version (500 m–1 km) offer relatively coarse resolutions and few points in time: just one date in the former (2000) and two in the latter (2003, 2008). The Forests of the World 2010 is also available for just one year (2010), albeit at a more detailed spatial resolution (250 m). Various datasets provide information on the cover fraction for long periods of time at medium and high spatial resolutions. FCover provides the longest time series (1999-present) at 1 km, although since 2014 this dataset is also available at 300 m. Modis VCF also offers a long data series (2000–2019) at a spatial resolution of 250 m. MEaSUREs Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF) is another thematic LUC dataset providing information on the tree cover fraction of the earth surface for a very long time period: 1982–2016. However, it is not reviewed here because of its coarse spatial resolution (around 5.6 km at the Equator). At very detailed spatial resolutions, GFCC30TC Landsat VCF (30 m) provides data on the cover fraction for four different points in time, between 2000 and 2015. It also gives information on forest change for two periods (1990–2000/2000–2005) through the associated GFCC30FCC dataset. The Hansen forest map (30 m) also provides one of the longest time series, from 2000 to 2019. Global FNF is the dataset with the highest resolution (25 m) of all those reviewed. It is available for two periods of time: 2007–2010 and 2015–2017. In thematic terms, however, this dataset is less detailed, in that it only differentiates between forest and non-forest covers. TanDEM-X Forest/Non-Forest also provides information on the forest extent at high spatial resolution (50 m). However, the map is only available for one point in time. Like Global FNF, it was also obtained from the classification of radar data.

Abstract In recent years, there has been an interest in finding a jet fuel alternative to the crude oil-based kerosene. Gas-to-liquid (GtL) fuel is being derived via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis processes by converting natural gas to longer-chain hydrocarbons which form the basis for jet fuel. In this study, new experimental ignition delay time measurements of GtL jet fuels have been determined at elevated pressures and temperatures. The measurements were conducted in a heated, high-pressure shock-tube facility capable of initial temperatures up to 200°C. Two GtL jet fuels were investigated, Shell GTL and Syntroleum S-8, which can be used in aviation applications at concentrations up to 50% blended with conventional oil-based kerosene. The ignition delay time measurements were conducted behind reflected shock waves for gaseous-phase fuel in air at a pressure around 10 atm and over a temperature range of 966 to 1266 K for two equivalence ratios, fuel lean (ϕ = 0.5) and stoichiometric (ϕ = 1.0). Ignition delay time was determined by observing the pressure and electronically excited OH chemiluminescence around 307 nm at the endwall location. Similar ignition delay times were observed for the two fuels at the fuel lean condition, while Syntroleum S-8 showed shorter ignition delay times at the stoichiometric condition. Comparisons are made with ignition delay time measurements for Jet-A previously conducted in the same facility and showed reasonable agreement over the tested conditions. The predictions from the available literature for GtL fuel surrogate kinetics models were obtained and compared with the experimental measurements.

In regions developing rapidly but deprived of natural gas, gas turbines (GT) in combined cycles (CC) fired on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) can represent effective and environmentally viable power generation options. The 300 MW Yugadanavi plant in Sri Lanka, which features two 9E GTs burning low-sulfur HFO, best exemplifies this specific situation. This project was fast-tracked in 2006, when the country started its fast development and the national grid needed fast power additions and frequency stability. Since 2008, it has been supplying 200 MWe to the Ceylonese grid, in simple cycle. Then in 2010, its capacity rose up to 300 MWe without any extra fuel consumption, after its conversion to a combined cycle. In November 2016, Yugadanavi has completed 55,000 hours of successful operation, has generated 6,000 TWh and burned 1 million tons of HFO achieving on average efficiency and reliability performances as high as 44% and 96% respectively. Starting 2010, LTL and GE joined their efforts in plant upgrade initiatives. In 2014 they demonstrated an efficient method to reduce the smoke emissions, using benign combustion catalysts. Within a next upgrade step, a new vanadium inhibition technology has been field-tested in 2015–2016, which enables improving the availability and energy performances of the plant by namely increasing the firing temperature of the gas turbines. After recalling the key milestones of this significant HFO project, the joint paper will outline the operation experience and positive environmental outcomes of the developments carried out within an LTL-GE collaboration, with a special emphasis on the most recent results obtained with the new inhibition technology.

Pulmonary endothelium produce large amounts of tissue plasminogen activators (t-PA) and presumably activator inhibitors (PAI). Any systemic role of this pulmonary production is unknown. Previous studies in dogs have demonstrated that respiratory pattern influenced the fibrinolytic activity in blood. Plasminogen activators were thought to be released from lungs. Too study if similar conditions existed in man we evaluated the fibrinolytic response in surgical patients during various pattern of mechanical ventilation. Twelve patients undergoing infrarenal aortic reconstruction were evaluated. Blood samples were taken from the pulmonary artery and a radial artery before and at various times during surgery. Mechanical ventilation with varied levels of PEEP (0, 5, 10 and 15 cm H2O) was used. Samples were taken in ice-cooled EDTA vacutainers and the blood was centrifuged at 8000 g for 2 min. Plasma was frozen at −70° C for later analysis. Fibrinolytic activity was monitored by analysis of ECLT, t-PA activity, t-PA antigen (ELISA) and PAI activity. During surgery ECLT and t-PA activity were below detectable levels. t-PA antigen was at baseline 9-18 ng/ml and increased transiently early during surgery with 3.9 ± 1..0 ng/ml in the radial artery and 3.2 ± 1.9 ng/ml in the pulmonary artery (mean ± SEM). PAI was at baseline 2.0 - 35.2 IU. During surgery it increased significantly with 43.6 ± 8.6 IU/ml in the radial artery and 36.9 ± 9.6 IU/ml (mean ± SEM). There were nc gradients over the lung in either t-PA antigen or PAI. PEEP at levels from 0-15 cm H2O did not affect the measured parameters. Thus, during surgery there was a transient increase in t-PA antigen and a progressive increase in PAI, both pulmonary independent. The respiratory pattern did not influence the fibrinolytic system and could unlikely be an important factor in resolution of pulmonary emboli.

The present study proposes a combination of solar-powered components (two heaters, an evaporator, and a steam-reformer) with a Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell to form a powerplant that converts methanol to electricity. The solar radiation heats up the mass flows of methanol-water mixture and air and sustains the endothermic methanol steam-reformer at a sufficient reaction temperature (typically between 220 and 300°C). In order to compare the different types of energy (thermal, chemical, and electrical), an exergetic analysis is applied to the entire system, considering only the useful part of energy that can be converted to work. The effect of the solar radiation intensity and of different operational and geometrical parameters like the total inlet flow rate of methanol-water mixture and the size of the fuel cell on the performance of the entire system is investigated. The results of the exergetic analysis prove that the proposed solar methanol fuel cell system has the potential to be operated with a high efficiency and power density by combining methanol steam-reforming and a PEM fuel cell with solar-powered heating. The chemical exergetic efficiency can be increased by a factor of around 1.6 (e.g. from 36% to 60% for the 1000 W m−2 incoming solar heat flux) by using solar radiation as a heat source instead of any other source (e.g. by burning a chemical fuel). This enhancement of effective exergetic efficiency by using solar power for heating the system amounts to even much higher values of up to above 10 for lower solar heat fluxes and very low flow rates of inlet fuel. The effective exergetic efficiency for the herein presented solar-powered system is significantly higher than any non-solar fuel cell system fed by hydrocarbon or alcoholic fuels. At the same time, an electrical power density per irradiated area of more than 986 W m−2 is obtained for a solar heat flux of 1000 W m−2. Comparable photovoltaic systems would need excessive sunlight-to-electricity efficiencies of more than 98%. Even for decreased intensities of solar radiation as low as 300 W m−2, the system achieves very satisfactory results regarding the solar power density (89.3 W m−2) and the chemical exergetic efficiency (61%). Therefore, the combination of exergy input in form of chemical fuel and solar radiation can be promising to achieve both, a high exergetic efficiency and a high power density per area irradiated by sunlight.

Purpose and Objectives: Cervical cancer is leading female cancer in Nepal. Despite the existence of effective screening using Pap smear, the uptake of screening is poor. This is mainly due to lack of knowledge, lack of availability of services in rural area and low priority of women’s health issue. Objectives of this study were to determine the baseline information about the knowledge of cervical cancer and explore attitude and practice of Pap smear screening among the women of rural community of Nepal. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional population based descriptive study of female attending free health camp in different rural community of Nepal organized by Nepal Cancer Hospital was conducted using self-administered questionnaire to elicit information on demographic characteristics, knowledge, screening behaviors and determinants of cervical cancer. Knowledge is elicited about eligibility for screening and screening interval according to American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines. Practices are evaluated as having ever been screened themselves. Attitudes referred to the various reasons for not getting screened themselves. Results: A total of 500 women participated in this study, out of which 44.4% (228) were either illiterate or just educated up to primary school. Mean age of participates were 40.6±10.3 yrs. 47.4% (238) of women married before age of 18 and 57% (258) women had their first childbirth before age of 21 years. Only 33.8% (169) female knew that cervical cancer is preventable and is curable in early stage. Although 42.6% (213) women heard about Pap smear, only 38.2% (191) knew about eligibility of screening and 11% (55) knew about screening interval. However, knowledge of risk factors for cervical cancer was found in 8.2% (41). About 26.8% (134) women had done Pap test at least once. The most common reason for not doing Pap test is they never heard about it (41.8%: 209). The other reason includes do not know where to do (9.6%: 48); never adviced by doctor (9%: 45); embarrassment (2.4%: 12); fear of finding out cancer (3.2%: 16) and do not have any symptoms (2.4%: 12). Conclusions: The study revealed low cervical cancer knowledge and poor screening behavior among the women. This may be suggestive of even poorer awareness and screening and practices among older women who are less educated or with no education.

Preliminary surficial geology, based on airphoto interpretation of the Cape MacDonnel map area, records three glacial and landform terrains. First, ridged, hummocky tills dominate Big Spruce and Scented Grass hills between 300 and 650 m elevation. Second, undifferentiated till covers the lower flanks of Scented Grass and Big Spruce hills, also extending northeastward of the latter, where streamlined till occurs. Third, glaciolacustrine sediments are confined to some lowlands below 200 to 250 m, where they discontinuously cover various till units along the shores of Great Bear Lake. Variable ice flow and local stagnation characterizes glacial history. In northern regions, ice flowed southwestward and then veered northwestward, with evidence of local ice streaming. In east-central regions, flow was generally westward. In the southwest, flow was northwestward. Retreating and stagnating remnant ice deposited ridged and hummocky moraine, which may also coincide with cold-based ice. Glacial Lake McConnell inundated lowlands to at least 250 m a.s.l. in the east, and to 210 m in the west.

The research shows that almost every secondary school has a compulsory uniform (over 96%). Of the 343 schools with a compulsory uniform, 320 uniforms include a school tie, 235 include a blazer and 200 schools ban jeans. While the Scottish Government has called for the automatic payment of benefits such as the national minimum clothing grant , only 6 local authorities make automatic awards of this grant when families are applying for other benefits. Nine local authorities roll over the school clothing grant into the next school year without requiring families to re-apply and 1 local authority has both automatic grants and rollover of school clothing grant in place.

Introducción: El bajo Peso al Nacer (BPN) corresponde a peso inferior de 2500 gr en nacidos vivos (NV). La OMS lo considera un problema de salud pública por ser predictor de morbimortalidad prenatal y aumentar riesgo de enfermedades no transmisibles. La meta es reducir a nivel mundial BPN en un 30% al 2025, y en Colombia no superar el 10% Objetivo: identificar los grupos poblacionales con mayor riesgo de presentar bajo peso al nacer a término (BPNT) para el 2019. Materiales y métodos: análisis descriptivo transversal, caracterizando casos notificados de BPNT al Sivigila de 2019, depurando y contrastando con la base de RUAF. Se realizó análisis univariado y bivariado. La proporción de los casos notificados se calculó con relación a la información de NV del DANE 2018. Se estimaron los indicadores definidos por el INS en el protocolo de BPNT. El almacenamiento y análisis se realizó con Excel y con OpenEpi versión 3,01 para estimar los odds ratio (OR) Resultados: Se notificaron 19 436 casos de BPNT con 2,99 casos /100 NV (IC95%: 2,7 - 3,0). La tendencia de este evento entre 2016 - 2019 presentó un aumento porcentual de 9,6 %. El 98 % de los NV recibieron atención institucional, 52 % con 37 semanas de gestación, 93 % por parto simple, una mediana de peso de 2 350 gr. y talla 47 cm. La mayor proporción corresponde al sexo mujer con 3,6 / 100 NV (IC 95%: 2,6 - 3,8) y madres con 50 a 54 años con un 4,8 /100 NV (IC 95%: 3,2 – 4,9), residentes en el área urbana con 3,2/100 NV (IC 95%: 3,1 – 3,2) y no aseguradas al Sistema General de Seguridad Social en Salud con 4,7 /100 NV (IC 95%: 2,1 – 4,8). Se encontraron diferencias significativas en los OR, con mayor riesgo en madres de 45 a 49 años con un OR 1,5 (IC 95%: 1,2 – 2,0. Hubo mayor proporción de casos notificados al Sivigila de BPNT en los departamentos de Cundinamarca, Atlántico y distrito de Bogotá y menor proporción en Caquetá, Barranquilla y Buenaventura. Conclusión: la proporción de BPNT se ha mantenido con relación al 2018, con tendencia al aumento desde el 2016. Los NV corresponden a sexo mujer y de madres “no aseguradas” al SGSSS, los estratos 1 y 2, un nivel educativo de secundaria, así mismo, los grupos de edad extremos mayores de 50 años y menores de 19 años. Se requiere robustecer las políticas públicas debido a las implicaciones a que conlleva a corto y mediano plazo en la mortalidad y el desarrollo psicomotriz de estos menores.

Introducción: el riesgo de desarrollar tuberculosis (TB) en la población con VIH es 20 veces más alto que en el resto de la población general. Para el 2018 la carga de coinfección fue de 9,3 %, de los cuales se registró un número importante de muertes causadas por la coinfección. Objetivo: describir el comportamiento de mortalidad por TB/VIH en 2018, e identificar brechas en la atención integral de los casos coinfectados menores o iguales a 49 años. Metodología: estudio descriptivo retrospectivo basado en la notificación de casos de tuberculosis con coinfección TB/VIH que ingresaron al Sivigila y al Registro Unificado de Afiliados, seleccionando registros que tenían simultáneamente en sus causas tuberculosis y VIH, de los cuales se realizó análisis de problemas, según unidades de análisis. Resultados: se identificaron 1 300 muertes por tuberculosis entre personas VIH negativas y 278 muertes por tuberculosis entre VIH positivas. La razón de masculinidad fue 3,4. Los grupos con mayor afectación fueron los de 35 a 39 años (21,8 %), seguido de 40 a 44 (21,4%), la forma pulmonar aportó el mayor número de casos (77,7 %) y el (22,3 %) correspondió a la forma extrapulmonar, siendo la localización meníngea la más frecuente (54,6 %). Las categorías de los problemas identificados fueron: prestación de servicios (35,6 %); demanda inducida y protección específica (29,2 %); gestión territorial (9,6 %); aseguramiento (13,4 %); percepción del riesgo y el entorno (12,2 %); entre otros. Conclusiones: la mortalidad por coinfección TB/ VIH afecta principalmente a hombres jóvenes, lo cual requiere acciones sectoriales e intersectoriales para impactar los problemas identificados.

We investigate seismic attenuation characteristics of the Lower St. Lawrence seismic zone in southeastern Quebec. This zone is located ~400 km downstream from Quebec City and is between the Quebec North Shore and the Lower St. Lawrence. We used earthquake recordings from 5 broadband and 5 short period seismograph stations of the Canadian National Seismic Network (CNSN) across the region. Our dataset is comprised of 847 earthquakes recorded between 1985 and 2022 with magnitudes ranging from 2.0 to 5.1, depths from 0 to 30 km and epicentral distances of 5 to 100 km. This gives a total of 446 high signal-to-noise (S/N) traces (S/N?5.0) useful for QC calculation (with a maximum ellipse parameter, a2, of 100) across the region. Coda windows were selected to start at tc = 2tS (two times the travel time of the direct S wave), and were filtered at center frequencies of 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 Hz. Our study reveals a consistent pattern. We find that the lowest overall average of Q0 (Q at 1 Hz) values are at the three stations (GSQ, ICQ and SMQ) within 100 km of a moderate earthquake of mN 5.1 in 1999 (e.g., Q0 of 81, 88 and 80, respectively). We determined temporal variations in attenuation following the 1999 earthquake. The overall average of Q0 decreased from 87 (before the mainshock) to 77 (GSQ, D=96 km), from 92 to 85 (ICQ, D=69 km) and from 88 to 82 (SMQ, D=73 km). These results are in agreement with global studies that show a decrease in Q0 following a significant earthquake, (e.g., M &amp;gt; 5) likely the result of increased fracturing and fluids in the epicentral region. An average for all the data results in a Q relationship of QC = 86f1.07 for the frequency band of 2 to 16 Hz for the entire region.

8+fjordar-området är topografiskt väldigt varierande. Vattenutbytet är långsamt och tillförseln av näringsämnen stor. Största delen av näringsämnen stannar kvar i fjordarna. Mest i Havstens- och Hakefjordar där 40-50 % av den lokala näringstillförseln stannar kvar. Utsläppen från jordbruk och skogsbruk är stora i 8+fjordar-området. T.ex. står dessa för 62 % av kvävetillförseln och 69 % av fosfortillförseln till Byfjorden. Men utsläpp från punktkällor direkt till havet är också betydande (21 % av kvävetillförseln och 19 % av fosfortillförseln till Byfjorden). Man har genom en mängd olika tilltag de senaste decennierna försökt sänka utsläppen av kväve och fosfor och även om koncentrationerna av kväve och fosfor fortsatt är höga har halterna av främst kväve sjunkit i 8+fjordar-området. De stora utsläppen av näringsämnen ökar växtplanktonproduktionen och när denna sjunker till botten och bryts ner av bakterier orsakar det syrebrist och höga koncentrationer av giftigt svavelväte i de djupare delarna av fjordarna. I de grundare delarna av fjordsystemet finns grunda vikar med ålgräsängar, blåmusselbankar och klippkuster med tångskogar. Dessa biotoper har förändrats under de senaste decennierna med en ökande påväxt av fintrådiga alger. Den pelagiska miljön (de fria vattenmassorna) är främst påverkad av avrinning av sötvatten från älvar och åar och av inflöde av salthaltigt vatten från Skagerrak genom Marstrandsfjorden och norrut i fjordsystemet. Närsaltkoncentrationen är hög i hela vattenpelaren vilket ses speciellt för nitrat. Detta ger förhöjda klorofyllkoncentrationer även om dessa alltså har minskat betydligt under de senaste decennierna. 8+fjordar-området har länge haft höga koncentrationer av giftiga dinoflagellater, men de senaste decennierna har giftalgsblomningarna minskat betydligt. De flesta områden uppnår nu minst god ekologisk status avseende vinterkoncentrationer av totalt kväve med undantag för By-, Havstens-, Askerö- och Älgöfjordar. Status för växtplankton klassas som hög i nästan hela området. År 2006 kom den amerikanska kammaneten Mnemiopsis leidyi till svenska västkusten. Den är en effektiv predator på djurplankton och kan vissa år minska djurplanktonbiomassan avsevärt under hösten. Detta kan ha allvarliga konsekvenser för överlevnad av fisk och fisklarver som livnär sig på djurplankton. De allra flesta fiskarter livnär sig på djurplankton i larvstadiet. Den bentiska miljön innefattar livsmiljön från de djupa mjukbottnarna till tångskogarnas och ålgräsängarnas topp. 8+fjordar-områdets bentiska miljö kännetecknas av klippstränder med hårdbottnar beväxta med bland annat snärjtång, blåstång, sågtång, sockertång och fintrådiga alger, där blåmusslor och andra evertebrater lever och de djupare delarna täcks av fastsittande bentiska evertebrater som till exempel havsanemoner och havsnejlikor. De djupare sedimentbottnarna hyser grävande evertebrater som livnär sig på den biomassa som sjunker ner från pelagialen. Här dominerar havsborstmasken Scalibregma inflatum, slätbukig Sammanfattning trådormstjärna och pepparmussla. Vatten från Skagerrak strömmar in i 8+fjordarområdet söderifrån och de södra bassängerna inklusive Hake- och Askeröfjordar är normalt syresatta under hela året även i sina djupaste delar, medan de djupa delarna av de nordligare Kalvö-, Borgile-, Koljö- och Byfjordar samt även Havstensfjorden ofta präglas av långvarig syrebrist. I dessa områden försvinner bottenfaunan ofta helt eller befinner sig i någon fas av återkolonisering efter vattenutbyten. Den bentiska miljön hade bättre ekologisk status under 1980- och 90-talet än under det tidiga 2000-talet. De flesta åren därefter visar måttlig status i Hake-, Halse- och Havstensfjordar. I de grunda vikarna har mängden fintrådiga alger ökat betydligt sedan slutet på 1990-talet. Dessa alger bildar påväxt på ålgräs och tång och täta mattor av ruttnande alger på botten vilket försvagar ålgräs och tång och orsaker lokal syrebrist i ängarna. Dessa alger har ökat i biomassa delvis på grund av avsaknaden av betande evertebrater (t.ex. märlkräftor) som i sin tur har minskat i antal eftersom mesopredatorer som t.ex. strandkrabba och läppfiskar har ökat när deras predatorer, som t.ex. torsk, har fiskats bort. Utbredningen av ålgräs i 8+fjordar-området har minskat ganska dramatiskt de senaste decennier, speciellt kring Kungälv och Uddevalla där 80–85% av arean har försvunnit. Status för ålgräs och tång är otillfredsställande eller måttlig i nästan hela 8+fjordar-området. Fiskbestånden i 8+fjordar-området har varit överfiskade under lång tid och liksom i Västerhavets övriga kuststområden är förekomsten av större bottenlevande fisk, främst torskfiskar, mycket reducerad i 8+fjordar-området. Det fanns ett betydande fiske av torsk, näbbgädda, rödspotta, sill och skarpsill i området på 1960- talet men 2004–2008 hade de flesta fisken kollapsat med undantag av fisket på sill och skarpsill som fortfarande fiskas även on mängden landad sill har minskat betydligt från 2014 till 2021. Av alla fångster av sill och skarpsill fiskades i genomsnitt 14 % av sillen och 87 % av skarpsillen med lysfiske. SLU:s undersökningar visar dessvärre inte på någon återhämtning av fiskbestånden under de senaste 20 åren, trots att det riktade fisket efter flera av dessa arter stoppats och det införts ett fiskefritt område i Havstensfjorden. Genetiska studier visar dock att det fortfarande finns ett lokalt lekande bestånd av torsk i området och det har observerats bättre rekryteringar 2016 och 2019. Sportfisket efter havsöring är betydande, men störst är fisket efter makrill både med spö och med dörj. Det finns ingen officiell statistik på landningar men i Fiskeriverkets rapport från 1999 angavs att fritidsfiskets sammanlagda fångster översteg yrkesfiskets för lax och havsöring och vissa arter av plattfisk. Det finns en del vattenbruk i 8+fjordar-området. Företaget Scanfjord är störst, med blåmusselodlingar i yttre Stigfjorden, Havstensfjorden och Koljöfjorden. En rad andra aktörer har odlingar främst i norra delen av 8+fjordar-området och företaget Marine Taste odlar sjöpungar nära Stenungsund. Sjöfåglar är viktiga länkar mellan näringsvävar i havet och på land och de kan vara bra indikatorer på förändringar i de marina ekosystemen. Efter mitten av 1990- talet har ejderpopulationen minskat till hälften och arten är numera (2020) rödlistad som ”starkt hotad” (EN) i både Sverige och Europa. Strandskatan har minskat med omkring 40 % i Sverige de senaste 30 åren och är sedan 2020 rödlistad som "nära hotad" (NT). Troliga faktorer för dessa två arters minskning är minskad mängd och/eller kvalitet, inklusive vitaminbrist, på bytesdjur, ökad utbredning av syrefria bottnar, klimatförändringar, predation och sjukdom. Stora förändringar har också ägt rum hos många måsfågelbestånd de senaste 20–30 åren. Fisktärna och silltrut (på västkusten) har klarat sig bra, medan övriga måsfåglar minskat så kraftigt att de blivit rödlistade. Bestånden av grågås, kanadagås och vitkindad gås har ökat kraftigt de senaste 30 åren. Tillgången på höst- och vintergröna grödor har ökat genom ändrat jordbruk och varmare och snöfattigare vintrar vilket har gynnat gässen. Storskarven var tidigare utdöd i Sverige men under 1980- och 1990-talet spred sig skarven längs den svenska kusten och i 8+fjordar-området etablerades de första kolonier i början av 2000-talet. Det finns ingen regelbunden inventering av storskarv i Sverige men år 2021 räknades 1300 bon i 7 kolonier från Nordre Älvs mynning i söder till Havstensfjord i norr, absoluta majoriteten väster om OrustTjörn. I 8+fjordar-området är storskarvens vanligaste byten smörbult och plattfisk, men även andelen torskfisk och sötvattensfisk är betydande. Knubbsäl, gråsäl och tumlare förekommer i 8+fjordar-området. Knubbsäl och tumlare är de överlägset vanligaste marina däggdjuren medan antalet gråsälar är betydligt färre. Efter att jakten förbjöds och sälarna skyddades, samtidigt som mängden miljögifter minskade, började sälpopulationen längs västkusten återhämta sig under 1980-talet. Knubbsälpopulationen har ökat sedan dess även om virussjukdom (Phocine Distemper Virus, PDV) reducerade antalet betydligt år 1988 och 2002. Under 2010-talets senare hälft uppskattades antalet knubbsälar i Västerhavet till över 20 000 djur. I 8+fjordar-området vistas de flesta sälar på utsidan Orust och Tjörn med mycket färre sälar i själva 8+fjordar-området. Prover insamlade 2015-2016 visade att knubbsälens födoval är helt dominerat av plattfisk (viktandel >70 %) följt av sill, rötsimpa och vitling. Miljögifter finns i stora koncentrationer i vissa delar av 8+fjordar-området, främst i Byfjorden där föroreningar från hamnen länge har varit stora och kring Stenungsund där utsläpp från den kemiska industrin dominerar. Men inom 8+fjordar-området finns även ett stort antal mindre båtvarv och marinor som genom åren har bidragit till giftiga utsläpp främst från båtbottenfärg. I Byfjorden har bottensedimenten höga eller mycket höga koncentrationer av olja, polycykliska aromatiska kolväten (PAH) och PCB. Där är koncentrationerna av TBT, som tidigare användes i båtbottenfärg, och dess två nerbrytningsprodukter DBT och MBT mycket höga. Flera metaller så som zink, kadmium, koppar och nickel finns också i höga koncentrationer. Kvicksilver- och PBDE-halten i blåmusslor överskrider Vattendirektivets gränsvärde för fisk. Dessa föroreningar finns också i Havstensfjorden och Halsefjorden men i lägre koncentrationer. Kring Stenungsund är bottensedimentens halter av hexaklorbensen (HCB) höga eller mycket höga men det avspeglas dock inte i förhöjda HCB-halter i blåmusslor från samma område. Halterna av DBT och MBT är också höga här, medan halterna av TBT inte är förhöjda. Kopparhalten i sediment från Stenungsundsområdet är förhöjda och på en lokal är de långt över Vattendirektivets gränsvärde. Även koncentrationen av PBDE i blåmussla överstiger vattendirektivets gränsvärde. Blåstång från en lokal vid nordvästra Stenungsön har höga eller mycket höga koncentrationer av kadmium, arsenik och koppar. I syrefria bottnar förekommer ingen omblandning av sedimentet av infauna såsom havsborstmaskar vilket gör att lagrade ämnen inte i så hög utsträckning frigörs till vattnet och miljögifter koncentreras som mest i dessa områden. Nedbrytningshastigheten av organiska miljögifter är också betydligt långsammare i en syrefattig miljö än i en syrerik och det kan ta många decennier att bryta ned gifterna. Om syrefria bottnar innehållande miljögifter åter syresätts och omblandningen sätts igång, är det därför risk för kontaminering av kringliggande vatten. Mikroplast som härstammar från den lokala plastindustrin finns i större mängder i bottensedimenten kring Stenungsund. En studie visade att minst 3 miljoner och i värsta fall 36 miljoner polyetylenpellets större än 2 mm, motsvarande 73–730 kg, släpps ut via Stenunge å årligen. När mindre fraktioner ner till 300 µm inkluderades i mätningarna var det totala partikelantalet hundrafaldigt högre. Dessa partiklar har direkt effekt på djur och växter i fjorden. Elfiskeundersökningar visade att 62 % av öring fångade i Stenunge å hade plastpartiklar i magen. Flera invasiva arter har etablerat sig i 8+fjordar-området de senaste decennierna. Den amerikanska kammaneten Mnemiopsis leidyi finns i stora mängder sensommar och höst under de flesta år. Under år med dessa maneter kan de äta upp största delen av djurplanktonbiomassan vilket skapar problem för fisklarver som livnär sig på detta plankton. Stillahavsostronet eller det japanska jätteostronet har observerats på stränder i hela 8+fjordar-området. Dessa ostron kan tränga undan blåmussla när det bildas stora ostronbankar och de europeiska ostronen kan smittas av nya typer av parasiter. Ostronens skal är också vassa och kan orsaka skador på människor som går på bottnen i grunda områden. Mellan 20 och 40 % av 8+fjordar-områdets kustlinje är bebyggd inom 100 meters avstånd till vattenlinjen. I Kungälv och på Tjörn och Orust har bebyggd kustlinje fördubblats på bara 10 år trots förbud mot uppförande av nya byggnader närmre än 100 meter från strandlinjen enligt strandskyddslagstiftningen. 20–25 % av kusten i dessa kommuner är nu bebyggd. Friluftslivet till sjöss har också ökat kraftigt under senare år. Intervjuundersökningar visar att det under 2004 uppskattningsvis fanns totalt 26 600 båtar på svenska västkusten men att antalet har fyrdubblats fram till 2010. Denna ökning av mänsklig närvaro stör på många olika sätt. Pirar eller bryggor kan störa djurs naturliga migrationsrutter längs kusten, speciellt i topografiskt komplexa områden som 8+fjordar-området och större strukturer som t.ex. brofästen eller bortsprängningar och utgrävningar kan ändra vattengenomströmningen. I 8+fjordar-området kan det ha extra stor effekt eftersom vattenutbytet är naturligt långsamt. Fåglar störs kraftigt av snabbgående båtar. Många fåglar undviker ofta platser med mycket trafik under ruggningen och på rastoch övervintringslokaler kan störningar från båtar leda till att de oftare tar till flykt med energiförluster som följd. Marint skräp är ett särskilt stort problem i Bohuslän där stora mängder makroskräp driver i land på grund av havsströmmarna (Jutska strömmen). Detta är faktiskt ett av Europas mest nedskräpade marina områden. 96 % av det marina skräpet längs stränderna i Bohuslän utgörs av plastartiklar, och det vanligaste är snören och linor som till allra största del kommer från fisket. Effekter av skräp på det marina djurlivet är väldokumenterade, t ex insnärjning av marina djur och intag av skräpföremål av fåglar, fiskar och evertebrater. Förlorade tinor, garn och ryssjor utgör också en betydande del av skräpet. Efter intervjuundersökningar uppskattades antalet förlorade hummertinor till 3900 per år på västkusten bara från fritidsfisket. Förlorade fiskredskap fiskar vidare och studier har visat att så mycket som 163 800 humrar och krabbtaskor fångas per år på västkusten i detta spökfiske. Klimatförändringarna leder till att haven runt Sverige blir allt varmare, att kustnära vatten utsötas när nederbörden ändras och att haven försuras när ökade mängder koldioxid tas upp i havet. Varmare vatten tar upp mer plats så havsnivån stiger med stigande temperatur och detta förvärras när polernas fastlandsisar smälter. I 8+fjordar-området ökar ytvattentemperaturen fyra gångar så snabbt som den globala medeluppvärmningen och enligt SMHI har temperaturen ökat med 3,5 °C sedan 1960. Salthalt och skiktning förändras i kustnära miljöer när nederbörden varierar. I svenska kustnära marina miljöer har saliniteten minskat under perioden från 1992, då mätningarna började, fram till ca 2010, men under de senare åren har den ökat så mycket att den nu är tillbaka på samma nivå som 1990. En tredjedel av den koldioxid som släpps ut absorberas av världens hav där den bildar kolsyra. Under industrialiseringen har det globala medel-pH minskat från cirka 8,11 till 8,06, en minskning som motsvarar en ökning i surhet med 30 %. Det finns ingen marin övervakning av pH i 8+fjordar-området men data från danska fjordar visar en försurning som är dubbel så snabb som globala medelvärdet. Av alla belastningar relaterade till klimatförändringarna är det temperaturökningen som har störst effekt på djur och växter i havet. Först och främst förflyttas utbredningsområden för djur och växter mot norr. Torsken i Skagerrak/Kattegatt föredrar temperaturer som är låga jämfört med de medeltemperaturer de upplever i området i dag och den temperaturökningen vi ser i 8+fjordar-området minskar därför torskens lekmöjlighet i området. Ålgräs påverkas också av ökande temperaturer och studier visar att en 5 °C ökning minskar ålgräsets skottäthet. Havsförsurning påverkar främst bottnens kalcifierande arter som kräftdjur, blötdjur och tagghudingar. Till exempel har det visat sig att sjöborrelarvers utveckling försämras av även mycket små minskningar i pH och bottensamhällen påverkas så att både artrikedom och antal individer minskar under försurning.
