ABSTRACT Aims Ramadan is a great opportunity for scientific research due to its peculiar nature. This study was designed to investigate whether morning saliva cortisol pick can change during and after Ramadan compared to before it. Materials and methods A total of 30 healthy volunteer men (aged between 30 and 76 years) were asked to participate in a cross-sectional study between August 12 and September 10, 2010. Saliva was collected 2 weeks before the beginning of Ramadan (BR), during the first week (R1), middle (R2), the last week (R3) of Ramadan and 3 weeks after Ramadan (AR). Cortisol concentration was analyzed by ELISA. Statistical analysis of one-way repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used. Results The mean unstimulated saliva cortisol concentration and its output were significantly higher in the BR than during and after Ramadan. Conclusion Mean saliva cortisol concentration and its output tended to be lower during and 3 weeks after Ramadan. Clinical significance Cortisol as a stress hormone seems to be low during Ramadan. El cáncer de estómago es una de las principales causas de muerte en el mundo, es una patología progresiva que en su mayoría es detectada en etapa terminal y afecta con más frecuencia a los países del primer mundo y en vías de desarrollo. Se analizó mediante el modelo de Regresión de Cox, la supervivencia en pacientes de cáncer estomago durante el periodo 2010 – 2015, en el hospital de especialidades Oncológico SOLCA Manabí, Ecuador. El estudio fue observacional, descriptivo y retrospectivo para evaluar la sobrevida de pacientes diagnosticados con cáncer de estómago entre los años 2010 – 2015. La supervivencia global y libre de enfermedad a cinco años se estableció a partir del tiempo trascurrido desde el diagnóstico hasta la ocurrencia del evento o fecha del último contacto. De los 344 pacientes estudiados, el 63,2% fueron hombres y el 36,8% mujeres, los límites de edad fueron entre 17 y 93 años. Se considero el estadio del tumor, donde (I) representa el 8,4%, (II) el 7,8%, el estadio (III) el 15,6% y finalmente con el 68,3% el estadio (IV), demostrando que los pacientes en estadios avanzados tuvieron menores probabilidades de supervivir. Con el modelo de regresión de Cox, fue posible demostrar asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el estadio del tumor y la supervivencia. Es imprescindible programas de prevención que logre evitar que el cáncer sea diagnosticado en estadios avanzados. Nesfatin-1 is a recently discovered anorexigen, and we first reported nesfatin-like immunoreactivity in the pancreatic β-cells. The aim of this study was to characterize the effects of nesfatin-1 on whole-body energy homeostasis, insulin secretion, and glycemia. The in vivo effects of continuous peripheral delivery of nesfatin-1 using osmotic minipumps on food intake and substrate partitioning were examined in ad libitum-fed male Fischer 344 rats. The effects of nesfatin-1 on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) were examined in isolated pancreatic islets. L6 skeletal muscle cells and isolated rat adipocytes were used to assess the effects of nesfatin-1 on basal and insulin-mediated glucose uptake as well as on major steps of insulin signaling in these cells. Nesfatin-1 reduced cumulative food intake and increased spontaneous physical activity, whole-body fat oxidation, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase I mRNA expression in brown adipose tissue but did not affect uncoupling protein 1 mRNA in the brown adipose tissue. Nesfatin-1 significantly enhanced GSIS in vivo during an oral glucose tolerance test and improved insulin sensitivity. Although insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in L6 muscle cells was inhibited by nesfatin-1 pretreatment, basal and insulin-induced glucose uptake in adipocytes from nesfatin-1-treated rats was significantly increased. In agreement with our in vivo results, nesfatin-1 enhanced GSIS from isolated pancreatic islets at both normal (5.6 mm) and high (16.7 mm), but not at low (2 mm), glucose concentrations. Furthermore, nesfatin-1/nucleobindin 2 release from rat pancreatic islets was stimulated by glucose. Collectively, our data indicate that glucose-responsive nesfatin-1 regulates insulin secretion, glucose homeostasis, and whole-body energy balance in rats.

This project examines a Canadian court case that involves the largest arson homicide in the history of Vancouver, British Columbia. In May 2006 a fire killed four members of a Congolese refugee family (Adela Etibako and three of her children, Benedicta, Edita, and Stephane) along with Ashley Singh, the South Asian girlfriend of the target and sole survivor of the fire, Bolingo Etibako. On October 5, 2008 the accused, Nathan Fry, a 20-year-old white male, was found guilty of five counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Fry received an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years. This paper considers this crime and the legal proceedings as a case study that can further our understanding of discourses of race, racism, and citizenship in Canada, and their link to Mbembe’s (2003) notion of necropolitics, what he terms as the politics of life and death. I argue that the viciousness of the crime, an offense involving a white male perpetrator and victims all of whom are racialized as Black and Brown, reflects the embodied practices and psychological processes that are both emblematic of, and integral to, the violence of coloniality, and the racial relations and structural arrangements of present-day white settler society (Martinot, 2010; Razack, 2002, 2005). I show how the crime, the investigation, and the trial communicate symbolically and materially what bell hooks (1992) characterizes as the “terrorizing force of white supremacy” (p. 344).

Автор здійснив аналіз ego-документів уманців, у яких відображено сприйняття населеннямУманщини приходу нової влади та показано насильницький характер встановлення окупаційної влади наУманщині. Автором проаналізував щоденникові записи відомого уманського адвоката, учасника громадівськогоруху, кооперативного діяча Петра Федоровича Курінного (1852 – 1931) та спогади дружини лікаря,громадського діяча Юрія Львовича Крамаренка – Олександри Олександрівни Крамаренко (Ісаєвої). Наведеніфакти дають змогу стверджувати, що ця влада для мешканців краю була окупаційною (незважаючи навіть нате, що одним з її очільників був уманець Ізраїль Кулик).

Introduction Venous recanalization of obstructed femoral and iliac veins is associated with good results regarding the feasibility and patency rate. If the common femoral vein with its inflow vessels is involved, open surgical desobliteration or endophlebectomy has been described as a crucial part of the intervention. However, when performing the hybrid procedure, a number of specific complications have been described. We present our results after venous recanalization including an endophlebectomy, focussing on wound complications and its impact on outcome. Material and methods A retrospective analysis of prospective recorded data of all patients who underwent a hybrid procedure for chronic obstruction of iliofemoral veins between 2010 and 2015 was performed. The patients were treated by recanalization of the affected veins combined with endophlebectomy of the common femoral vein and arteriovenous fistula implantation. Data assessment focussed on complications and patency rates. Results This study includes 96 patients, thereof 58 females with a mean age of 44.1 years. The mean procedure time was 344 ± 140 min (range 124–663). Median follow-up time was 12.5 months (2–33 months). Primary patency was 62.5% and secondary patency was 90%. Re-intervention due to early occlusion within the first 30 post-intervention days was necessary in 37.5% of all cases. Besides bleeding complications, wound complications, mainly classified as Szilagyi I, occurred in 33% of all patients. A multivariate analysis showed a significant impact of wound complications on primary as well as secondary patency rate ( p = 0.032, respectively 0.015). Conclusion Recanalization of obstructed iliac veins and/or the inferior vena cava combined with endophlebectomy of the common femoral vein and arteriovenous fistula implantation is a safe and feasible treatment option in the post-thrombotic syndrome. As wound complications are a common and associated with a significant impact on patency rate, further attempts to improve the procedure are crucial.

Gorodetski et al. [Nonremovability of zero Lyapunov exponents. Funktsional. Anal. i Prilozhen. 39(1) (2005), 27–38 (in Russian); Engl. Transl. Funct. Anal. Appl. 39(1) (2005), 21–30] and Bochi et al. [Robust criterion for the existence of nonhyperbolic ergodic measures. Comm. Math. Phys. 344(3) (2016), 751–795] propose two very different ways for building non-hyperbolic measures, Gorodetski et al. (2005) building such a measure as the limit of periodic measures and Bochi et al. (2016) as the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ -limit set of a single orbit, with a uniformly vanishing Lyapunov exponent. The technique in Gorodetski et al. (2005) has been used in a generic setting in Bonatti et al. [Non-hyperbolic ergodic measures with large support. Nonlinearity 23(3) (2010), 687–705] and Díaz and Gorodetski [Non-hyperbolic ergodic measures for non-hyperbolic homoclinic classes. Ergod. Th. & Dynam. Sys. 29(5) (2009), 1479–1513], as the periodic orbits were built by small perturbations. It is not known if the measures obtained by the technique in Bochi et al. (2016) are accumulated by periodic measures. In this paper we use a shadowing lemma from Gan [A generalized shadowing lemma. Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 8(3) (2002), 527–632]: ∙for getting the periodic orbits in Gorodetski et al. (2005) without perturbing the dynamics;∙for recovering the compact set in Bochi et al. (2016) with a uniformly vanishing Lyapunov exponent by considering the limit of periodic orbits. As a consequence, we prove that there exists an open and dense subset ${\mathcal{U}}$ of the set of robustly transitive non-hyperbolic diffeomorphisms far from homoclinic tangencies, such that for any $f\in {\mathcal{U}}$ , there exists a non-hyperbolic ergodic measure with full support and approximated by hyperbolic periodic measures. We also prove that there exists an open and dense subset ${\mathcal{V}}$ of the set of diffeomorphisms exhibiting a robust cycle, such that for any $f\in {\mathcal{V}}$ , there exists a non-hyperbolic ergodic measure approximated by hyperbolic periodic measures.

La posició de l'administrador de societats de capital després de la modificació que la Llei 31/2014, de 3 de desembre, per a la millora de el govern corporatiu, ha emprès en el capítol III del títol VI de la Llei de Societats de Capital, ve determinada per un cos estatutari de deures fiduciaris que caracteritza la gestió societària com una professió que imposa un necessari contingut i dedicació funcional, una observança de l'escenari normatiu -directa o indirecta-, i una aplicació a la gestió social alineada a l'interès social amb diligència general, bona fe i lleialtat corporativa. La delimitació funcional de la figura de l'administrador social ocupa un destacadíssim lloc en el moviment de Corporate Governance. La relació que uneix l'administrador amb la societat s'emmarca dins de les relacions representatives de gestió i es caracteritza pel seu caràcter fiduciari, atípic, bilateral, consensual, onerós i obligatori. L'alineament únic i exclusiu amb l'interès social aporta l'element fiduciari que fonamenta la relació gestora i causalitza tot el cos prestacional. En aquest escenari relacional, la Llei 31/2014 ha delimitat i precisat el marc conductual del gestor social sobre els dos deures tradicionalment lligats a la relació fiduciària d'administració societària: el deure de diligència i el deure de lleialtat. El primer, funcional i dispositiu, imposa un judici tècnic. El segon, disfuncional e imperatiu, imposa un judici ètic o axiològic. En el present treball s'analitza la posició nuclear d'administrador de societats en el moviment de govern corporatiu, la relació fiduciària de gestió representativa de l'administrador amb la societat, els deures fiduciaris que de la mateixa emanen i els efectes e instruments que ofereix l'ordenament en cas d'infracció dels deures fiduciaris pel gestor social.La posición del administrador de sociedades de capital tras la modificación que la Ley 31/2014, de 3 de diciembre, para la mejora del gobierno corporativo, ha acometido en el capítulo III del título VI de la Ley de Sociedades de capital, viene determinada por un cuerpo estatutario de deberes fiduciarios que caracteriza a la gestión societaria como una profesión que impone un necesario contenido y dedicación funcional, una observancia del escenario normativo -directa o indirecta-, y una aplicación a la gestión social alineada al interés social con diligencia general, buena fe y lealtad corporativa. La delimitación funcional de la figura del administrador social ocupa un destacadísimo lugar en el movimiento de Corporate Governance. La relación que une al administrador con la sociedad se enmarca dentro de las relaciones representativas de gestión y se caracteriza por su carácter fiduciario, atípico, bilateral, consensual, oneroso y obligatorio. El alineamiento único y exclusivo con el interés social aporta el elemento fiduciario que fundamenta la relación gestora y causaliza todo el cuerpo prestacional. En dicho escenario relacional, la Ley 31/2014 ha delimitado y precisado el marco conductual del gestor social sobre los dos deberes tradicionalmente ligados a la relación fiduciaria de administración societaria: el deber de diligencia y el deber de lealtad. El primero, funcional y dispositivo, impone un juicio técnico. El segundo, disfuncional e imperativo, impone un juicio ético o axiológico. En el presente trabajo se analiza la posición nuclear del administrador de sociedades en el movimiento de gobierno corporativo, la relación fiduciaria de gestión representativa del administrador con la sociedad, los deberes fiduciarios que de la misma emanan y los efectos e instrumentos que ofrece el ordenamiento en caso de infracción de los deberes fiduciarios por el gestor social.
The position of the capital company administrator after the amendment that Law 31/2014, of December 3, for the improvement of corporate governance, has undertaken in chapter III of title VI of the Capital Companies Law, is determined by a statutory body of fiduciary duties that characterizes corporate management as a profession that imposes a necessary content and functional dedication, an observance of the regulatory setting -direct or indirect-, and an application to social management aligned to social interest with general diligence, good faith and corporate loyalty. The functional delimitation of the figure of the social administrator occupies a very prominent place in the Corporate Governance movement. The relationship that unites the administrator with society is framed within representative management relationships and is characterized by its fiduciary, atypical, bilateral, consensual, onerous and obligatory nature. The unique and exclusive alignment with the social interest provides the fiduciary element that underlies the managerial relationship and causes the entire benefit body. In this relational setting, Law 31/2014 has defined and specified the behavioural framework of the social manager regarding the two duties traditionally linked to the fiduciary relationship of corporate administration: the duty of diligence and the duty of loyalty. The first, functional and discretionary, imposes a technical judgment. The second, dysfunctional and imperative, imposes an ethical or axiological judgment. This paper analyses the nuclear position of the company administrator in the corporate governance movement, the fiduciary relationship of representative management of the administrator with society, the fiduciary duties that emanate from it and the effects and instruments offered by the law in case of infringement of fiduciary duties by the social manager.

La tesis concreta una aproximación actualizada a la problemática que genera el tratamiento y aplicación de los delitos relativos a la Propiedad Intelectual.Se acomete, como prius lógico, la tarea de efectuar un recorrido por el marco internacional y supranacional de protección de la propiedad intelectual, su anclaje constitucional, los ámbitos nacionales de tutela civil y administrativa, la necesidad de la intervención penal, la evolución y el estado normativo actual de los tipos penales, así como su problemática conceptual y aplicativa justo en el momento de entrada en juego de una nueva reforma penal que trae consigo factores de cambio y nuevos paradigmas regulativos. Sin perjuicio de los aspectos dogmáticos, se atiende también a las cuestiones prácticas que plantean las modernas tipologías y las dinámicas delictivas que con mayor asiduidad se dan en la actualidad. El análisis es preferentemente sustantivo y está trasversalmente imbuido de un propósito de examen acerca de cómo las categorías penales tradicionalmente establecidas se vienen acomodando o transformando en función de la incidencia de la evolución y revolución tecnológicas, mostrando cómo tales procesos influyen en el modo en que el Derecho Penal trata los derechos de autor y conexos, como una consecuencia más de la interacción existente entre nuevas tecnologías y normas penales. La razón y sentido de la reforma de los tipos de los arts. 270 y 271 CP por la L.O. 1/2015 está íntimamente relacionada con ello. Se procede a la identificación y descripción analítica del contexto normativo y la experiencia obtenida en su aplicación con el objetivo de evaluar el ámbito y la situación de la intervención penal y obtener constataciones útiles sobre la esencia propia del ilícito penal, sus elementos diferenciadores frente a la protección civil y administrativa, y, en definitiva, sobre la procedencia, eficacia y optimización de la tutela penal de la propiedad intelectual en su nuevo diseño.
La reforma de 2015 ha introducido cambios sensibles que han transformado tanto el tipo objetivo como el tipo subjetivo de la figura base del apartado 1 del art. 270 CP, pero además ha implantado nuevas figuras y ha remodelado otras preexistentes. Se ha conformado un nuevo diseño de la protección penal que se caracteriza por un claro designio de expansión en cuanto a su alcance objetivo y subjetivo. Su definición se aborda examinando las consecuencias que ello conlleva para el bien jurídico protegido y la significación, contenido y alcance de los comportamientos y otros elementos típicos que ahora delimitan la nueva esfera de prohibición penal. Específicamente, las modificaciones introducidas presentan el denominador común de posibilitar el tratamiento como ilícito penal de conductas cuya tipicidad ha sido cuestionada en buena parte de las decisiones judiciales recaídas precisamente por la falta de adaptación de los tipos tradicionales a las nuevas realidades tecnológicas. La tesis efectúa un análisis de todos estos aspectos en un momento en el que por razones evidentes no existe producción doctrinal amplia ni práctica judicial asentada sobre los cambios introducidos. Ello servirá, adicionalmente, para concretar comparativamente los perfiles de las respectivas áreas de protección civil, administrativa y penal y sus correspondientes ilícitos.

Den här studien är en kritisk diskursanalys av ämnet kroppslig hälsa i skriftlig media. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur fenomenet kroppslig hälsa framställs i skriftlig media genom språket och dess användning. Analysmodellen vi använt oss av är formulerad av Norman Fairclough och det datamaterial vi använt oss av är av empirisk karaktär och insamlat från svensk skriven media i form av både rikstäckande press och lokalpress. I studien finns även ett avsnitt där vi presenterar tidigare forskning inom ämnet hälsa och diskursanalys. Forskningen presenteras genom fem teman: biopolitik, livsstil, individens ansvar, klass och könsskillnad utifrån ett hälsoperspektiv samt experthjälp. Den teori vi utgått ifrån för studien är främst den för den kritiska diskursanalysen, vi har även använt oss av Foucaults biopolitik vilken främst ges uttryck i diskussionsdelen. Resultatet för studien presenteras i två delar utifrån Fairclouchs analysmodell; text samt diskursiv praktik. Resultatet redogör vi för med en rad olika teman vi formulerat utifrån den analys som gjorts. De teman som vi formulerat är: hotspråk, den stratifierade hälsan, anvisningar & imperativ, superlativ, vetenskapligt språk och den reella exemplifieringen (del ett). De huvudsakliga diskurser vi funnit i materialet är: den ohälsosamma diskursen, den hälsosamma diskursen, den vetenskapliga diskursen samt den utbildande diskursen (del två).

Christoph Scherrer presents some theoretical background on the issue of the "new economy" and asks whether the recent experience of the US productivity performance is indicative of the possibility of growth without cyclical downturns. Michael Muller et al. look at a long-term study of personnel concepts in Europe and try to draw conclusions on what may be happening in Europe's "new economy". Wolfram Manzenreiter finally looks at Japan´s IT industries and asks to what extent the employment situation is being affected.

La novedad introducida en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico por la Ley 1/2000, de 7 de enero, de enjuiciamiento civil, según la cual, en virtud de lo dispuesto en sus artículos 543 y 544, quien ostente un título ejecutivo frente a una entidad sin personalidad jurídica puede obtener, con fundamento en él, que se despache ejecución frente a determinadas personas vinculadas de alguna manera con la referida entidad, constituye el objeto de análisis de este trabajo.
A tal fin, en primer lugar, se profundiza en un aspecto determinante del supuesto de hecho de la normativa estudiada, la falta de personalidad jurídica de la entidad que consta en el título ejecutivo. Para ello, se analiza el tratamiento de la carencia de personalidad jurídica en el proceso y su relación con la capacidad para ser parte. También se estudia la regulación material de diferentes entidades que pueden considerarse incluidas en el concepto de “entidad sin personalidad jurídica” empleado por la Ley.
A continuación, el trabajo se centra en el iter legislativo de los artículos 543 y 544 y su contenido regulatorio, de cuyo análisis deducimos que la Ley, en el supuesto que nos ocupa, efectúa una ampliación de la legitimación pasiva de la acción ejecutiva.
Se aborda finalmente el examen de la idoneidad del título ejecutivo para abrir el despacho de la ejecución frente a las personas afectadas por la ampliación de la acción ejecutiva. Partiendo de la significación del título ejecutivo en el proceso de ejecución, de la estructura de éste y de las características de la acción ejecutiva contenida en los artículos estudiados, constatamos que la regulación analizada desconoce institutos esenciales de nuestro ordenamiento jurídico y se enfrenta a otros firmemente consolidados doctrinal y jurisprudencialmente. Todos estos elementos nos han permitido llegar a la conclusión fundamental que se expone al final.The subject of this thesis is to analyze the new regulation introduced in Civil Procedure by Law No. 1/2000 of January 7, 2000, whose articles 543 and 544 provide that any person holding an enforcement document against an entity without legal personality may obtain, based on this title, the notification of the execution against people connected in a certain way with the entity. With this purpose, the basic point of the scope of the new regulation, the lack of legal personality of the entity which appears on the enforcement document is studied in depth. To do so, the lack of legal personality in the process and its relationship with the capacity to take part in legal proceedings is analyzed. The regulation of various entities which could be considered as the “entities without legal personality” referred to in Civil Procedure Law is also studied. The study then focuses on the legislative procedure for articles 543 and 544 and the regulatory contents. This assessment leads to the conclusion that, in the case with which we are now concerned, the regulation establishes an extension of the defendant’s standing of the executive action. Finally, the suitability of the enforcement document to provide the notification of the execution against the people included in the extension is approached. On the basis of the significance of the enforcement document in the process, the structure of the process and the characteristics of the executive action contained in the above-mentioned articles we come to the conclusion that the regulation examined does not take into account essential concepts of our legal system and is in contradiction with jurisprudence and case-law. As a result, we come to the fundamental conclusion exposed at the end.

El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad el estudio de la nueva Directiva 2014/23/UE, del Parlamento Europeo y del Consejo, de 26 de febrero de 2014, relativa a la adjudicación de contratos de concesión (DOUE L núm. 94 de 28.3.2014), en especial, el análisis de las novedades que introduce respecto de las Directivas de tercera generación, así como las repercusiones que tendrá respecto a la actual regulación de la figura concesional de nuestro ordenamiento jurídico.
Hasta el momento la regulación de los contratos de concesiones a nivel comunitario se limitaba al ámbito de aplicación, publicidad y subcontratación y normas aplicables a las concesiones de obras mientras que las concesiones de servicio quedaban excluidas de las directivas salvo el cumplimiento de los principios del Tratado de Funcionamiento de la Unión Europea. La principal razón por la que las concesiones de servicios quedaban fuera de la normativa de contratación pública europea se debía al diferente tratamiento jurídico que éstas tenían en los Derechos nacionales así como en la necesidad de dotar las autoridades contratantes de un margen de flexibilidad a estas figuras contractuales.
Por estas razones ha existido un problema de configuración conceptual en la delimitación de los contratos de concesiones y contratos públicos (especialmente en el ámbito de los servicios) del que se han hecho eco las propias instituciones comunitarias al existir un riesgo de inseguridad jurídica relacionado con las divergentes interpretaciones de los principios del Tratado por los legisladores nacionales y por las diferencias entre la regulación de las legislaciones de los diferentes Estados miembros.
Uno de los principales objetivos de Directiva es precisamente la necesidad de instaurar un marco jurídico adecuado, equilibrado y flexible en el ámbito de la adjudicación de concesiones que garantice a todos los operadores económicos de la Unión un acceso efectivo y no discriminatorio al mercado y que afiance la seguridad jurídica.
La correcta depuración de los contornos del contrato de concesión respecto a otras figuras contractuales no es una cuestión meramente dogmática, sino que resulta de especial interés práctico. El aspecto clave de la Directiva es la vinculación de la existencia del contrato de concesión a la efectiva transferencia al concesionario del riesgo operacional. La delimitación del riesgo operacional es fundamental a la hora de interpretar en nuevo concepto de contrato de concesión de la Directiva, su anclaje en la concepción tradicional del riesgo y ventura de las concesiones de nuestro ordenamiento así como las afectaciones que produce respecto al contrato de concesión de servicios públicos y al contrato de gestión de servicios públicos.
Por todo ello, es necesario el análisis de los principales rasgos caracterizadores del contrato de concesión tal y como está concebido en la Directiva, el estudio del concepto, alcance e impacto del riesgo operacional y, en consecuencia, la necesidad de depurar conceptualmente la figura del contrato de concesión frente a otras figuras contractuales tal y como están reguladas en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico.

Buddhism posits a basic equality of sentient beings as faced with suffering and in need of liberation. It also regards humans in particular as having a precious kind of rebirth with great potential for liberation in spite of their different karmic backgrounds. Respect for others is seen in the reflection, ‘For a state that is not pleasing or delightful to me, how could I inflict that on another?’ (SN V.353–354; Harvey 2000: 33–34). This is given as a reason for not inflicting wrong action or wrong speech on others. This chapter discusses Buddhist ideals on good social relationships and the good governance of society, in which a government should seek to prevent poverty, punish crime in a way that is reform-orientated and compassionate yet effective, and sets an ethical example. It includes a discussion of attitudes to capital punishment, democracy, and the extent to which the law should encode ethics.

AbstractCritical or extreme atmospheric conditions which could result in flood disasters are important output for numerical weather forecast. This research applied thermodynamic variables to investigate the environment of two flood scenarios in West Africa as captured by the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) satellite. Results from the two case studies of flood events, in (i) Burkina Faso and (ii) Nigeria savannah, investigated in this research work, indicated that the September 1st 2009 flood, which was as a result of a single volumetric rainfall event of 408,070.60 ((mm/h)*km2) with 65% convective region in Burkina Faso, was initiated by interactions between extremely large lower tropospheric wind shear and cold pool dynamics. The case of the Nigeria savannah floods between July and September, 2012, was triggered by both continuous rainfall and release of water from the lagdo dam in Cameroon, which affected most of the communities in the river Benue axis. The continuous rainfalls were found to be as a result of extremely high convergence of moisture in the river Benue axis at different locations and periods. One of such rainfall events, as captured by TRMM satellite during September 29, 2012 in the Nigeria rainforest zone, indicated that the volumetric rainfall is 351,310.9 ((mm/h)*km2) with only 34% convective portion. From these results, it can be deduced that a combination of thermodynamic environmental variables, volume rainfall, and other satellite-derived convective parameters could provide important information for flood forecasting.

MTCR adalah sebuah asosiasi non-traktat informal yang ditetapkan negara G-7 tahun 1987. MTCR bertujuan membatasi dan mengawasi alih teknologi yang dapat berperan dalam teknologi misil, WMD, dan teknologi guna ganda. Saat ini beranggotakan 34 negara, dan India bukan anggota MTCR, bahkan pada awalnya India menentang MTCR. Walaupun bukan negara anggota, India berhasil mengatasi hambatan alih teknologi dari MTCR, dan saat ini telah mempunyai kemampuan dalam teknologi wahana peluncur dan misil. Pada Juni 2015 India secara resmi mengajukan menjadi anggota MTCR. Kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis mengapa India dalam posisinya sekarang mengajukan menjadi anggota MTCR. Metoda yang digunakan ialah deskriptif yang menggambarkan MTCR, dinamika India dalam mencapai kemampuan teknologi antariksa. Dengan menggunakan konsep kepentingan nasional untuk keamanan, analisis menghasilkan bahwa alasan India mengajukan menjadi anggota MTCR ialah (i) MTCR menjadi platform penting untuk akses ke teknologi wahana peluncur dan misil, sehingga dapat memperkuat kemampuannya untuk kepentingan keamanan, (ii) turut serta dalam pengawasan penyebaran teknologi guna ganda yang apabila jatuh ke negara nakal dapat berimplikasi terhadap keamanan India, (iii) akan memperoleh kepercayaan dalam kerja sama dengan negara anggota dan non anggota MTCR untuk kepentingan keamanan negaranya, (iv) faktor dukungan AS dengan tujuan akhirnya meningkatkan dan memperbesar kekuatan keamanan India, (v) Faktor Tiongkok yang apabila menjadi anggota MTCR akan memberikan akses lebih besar untuk berpartisipasi dalam teknologi tinggi, dan perdagangan teknologi sensitif ke negara sekutu Tiongkok sehingga dapat mengancam keamanan India.

The number of areas of society that are being digitised continues to increase and so Internet offers are becoming increasingly important. This development also affects social work, whose specialists meanwhile see a trend to expand the internet-related offerings. This has been further strengthened in germany by the lockdowns since March 2020. This poses a particular challenge for youth workers, as their addressees, the so-called digital natives, did not experience the time before digitization and use the Internet as a matter of course to cultivate existing friendships and meet new people. Today’s young people no longer distinguish between offline and online, they are onlife. However, even in this age group there is every level of the digital divide, because not all have the same equipment, fast internet access or the necessary application skills.Up to now, they have only had limited success in switching to hybrid offers. In addition to the requirements of the recipients, this is partly due to the technical scepticism of the social work-ers, the relatively one-sided orientation of further training and the lack of equipment (Klein-schmidt/Scheibe). All this is still incomplete and does not apply equally to all social workers.This unfinished list shows that this phenomenon is interrelated and cannot be described and explained solely by describing the skills of the social workers. At this point, the actor-network theory (ANT) could be a useful theoretical perspective, because it allows the entanglement and reciprocal influences of human and non-human components in a network to be visible and then analysed. I take up the previous considerations on the use of the ANT in contexts of internet-related social work and think about them along the question of how a case study could be structured in which the individual situation of youth workers in relation to the respective conditions of success of their internet-related activities can be explored and subsequently analysed.To answer the question, I first outline the basic elements of the ANT, and then explore the potential of a thematic examination of specialists in case studies on object-related theory buil-ding. Abstract At the time of this writing in 2019, I have been studying hypervelocity impacts for about 34 years. I attended my first Hypervelocity Impact Symposium in 1992. In this paper, I attempt to show what I’ve been up to all this time but also show some of the things I’ve learned along the way. I’ve singled out three topics that stand out in my mind as milestones in my career: the impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter in 1994, the development of adaptive mesh refinement for the CTH hydrocode in 1998-2001 and my ongoing studies of hypervelocity impact-generated magnetic fields from 1985 to the present day.

This article reviews recent literature concerning the Europa 2020 strategy. Using data from Eurostat and Eurydyce database , I performed analyses and made estimates regarding aims at formal, non-formal, ICT education or informal education for all levels, from pre-school to adult vocational training. I have also performed analyses and compared the objectives of the strategy for Romania and the E.U countries about the integration in a proportion of over 95% of the preschoolers in the educational system, the decrease below 15% of the number of the 15-year-olds who do not have sufficient knowledge of reading, mathematics and sciences, the decreases of the weight of the 18-24-year-olds who leave school early with 3.9% starting from a value of 13.9% in 2010 and targeting a value of 10%. As for the indicator regarding the increase in the number of persons with higher education for those between the ages of 30 and 34, the EU has a target of 40% for 2020, starting with a value of 33.8% in the year 2010. Increasing the participation of adults in lifelong learning activities by 15%, and attending part of the study or professional training program in another country, for students (reaching a minimum of 20%), and for young people aged 18- 24 years minimum 6%.Empirical and secondary data are used to support the claim that each country applied aims of the Europa 2020 strategy and how each of them trough support and knowledge of ICT succeeded in using and putting them into practice.

Introdução: Este trabalho é um estudo descritivo dos casos relacionados ao escorpionismo, causados principalmente pelas espécies Tityus serrulatus e Tityus bahiensis; conhecidos respectivamente como escorpião amarelo e escorpião marrom na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, no período de 2014 a 2016. Esses animais são cosmopolitas, reproduzem principalmente por partenogênese e são bem adaptados a ambientes urbanos, salientando a importância médica de se conhecer os hábitos, prevenção e tratamento, obtendo assim uma melhor resposta ao contato humano com esses animais. Objetivos: Esta pesquisa tem como objetivos: (I) fazer um levantamento dos acidentes notificados com o escorpião Tityus serrulatus no período de dezembro de 2014 a dezembro de 2016 na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte; (II) propor ações básicas para o controle de escorpiões. Material e métodos: Para caracterizar os dados de escorpionismo, foi realizada a busca de casos de acidentes em Belo Horizonte e na região metropolitana, entre dezembro de 2014 a dezembro de 2016, adotando a plataforma de acesso online Tab net (http://tabnet.datasus.gov.br/cgi/deftohtm.exe?sinannet/cnv/animaismg). Depois, os dados foram tabulados em uma planilha de excel e classificados quanto a: (I) estações de ocorrência (II) número total de acidentes notificados (III) idade e sexo dos pacientes. Os dados foram submetidos a análise estatística, adotando o software systat 12.0 e o teste utilizado foi o teste de Krustral-Wallis, visto que os dados não apresentam distribuição normal e não eram possíveis de normalização após transformações. Resultados: Entre as 34 cidades estudadas, a incidência dos acidentes em Belo Horizonte com aproximadamente 1900 casos para uma população de 2.513.451 habitantes foi maior no período de dezembro de 2014 a dezembro de 2016, maioria dos casos analisados ocorreu no período do verão em que o clima quente e chuvoso faz com que esses animais saem em busca de alimentos e abrigo, sendo seguido pelo período da primavera. Conclusão: Essas medidas devem ser aliadas e realizadas em conjunto com demais ações que visam a prevenção e o controle para a diminuição dos números anuais de casos de escorpionismo.

Directive 2014/34/EU ATEx regulates the placement on the European market of equipment and technical installations for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The current work aims to describe the design and use of low current equipment in the development of industrial robots used for the inspection of hard-to-reach areas with explosion hazard. Documentation evaluation and testing of equipment with intrinsic safety �i� type of protection (SR EN 60079-11 Equipment protection by intrinsic safety "i") according the Directive 2014/34/EU ATEx is of is of particular importance for the designed equipment to be safe from the point of view of using it in areas with explosion hazard. Installations in which flammable materials are handled or stored must be designed, operated and maintained so that all releases of flammable materials, and consequently the extent of hazardous areas, are kept to a minimum in terms of frequency, duration and quantity, whether the operation is normal or not. Due to the risk to which workers are exposed during inspections in areas with explosive hazard, it is necessary in certain cases to use robots to reduce the risk of accidents. The work aims to develop industrial robots for inspection in areas with danger of potentially explosive atmospheres and to implement in them measuring and control equipment with intrinsic safety protection type �i�.

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and ATI Allegheny-Ludlum began a collaborative program in 2004 to produce a wide range of commercial sheets and foils of the new AL20-25+Nb stainless alloy, specifically designed for advanced microturbine recuperator applications. There is a need for cost-effective sheets/foils with more performance and reliability at 650–750°C than 347 stainless steel, particularly for larger 200–250 kW microturbines. Phase I of this collaborative program produced the sheets and foils needed for manufacturing brazed plated-fin (BPF) aircells, while Phase II provided foils for primary surface (PS) aircells, and modified processing to change the microstructure of sheets and foils for improved creep-resistance. Phase I sheets and foils of AL20-25+Nb have much more creep-resistance than 347 steel at 700–750°C, and foils are slightly stronger than HR120 and HR230. Preliminary results for Phase II show nearly double the creep-rupture life of sheets at 750°C/100 MPa, with the first foils tested approaching the creep resistance of alloy 625 foils. AL20-25+Nb alloy foils are also now being tested in the ORNL Recuperator Test Facility.

The article deals with the effect of nitrogen fertilizer on the yield of different cultivars of winter wheat. Field experiments were conducted in 2011–2013 at the Experimental Station of Aleksandras Stulginskis University in carbonate shallow gleyic leached soil, (Calc(ar)i-Epihypogleyic Luvisol). The object of the investigation was winter wheat cultivars ‘Zentos’ and ‘Ada’. In sowing time the wheat was treated with granular superphosphate (P60) and potassium chloride (K60), and in spring, after the vegetative growth had resumed, in tillering time (BBCH 23–15) with ammonium nitrate (N60). Additionally, foliar fertilizer urea solution was used: N30, N40 at booting stage (BBCH 34–36) and N15, N30 at milk ripening stage (BBCH 71–74). It has been established that application of nitrogen fertilizer at booting and milk ripening stages increased the yield of wheat cultivars ‘Zentos’ and ‘Ada’ (0.06–1.74 and 0.41–1.74 t ha–1). The correlation and regression analysis confirmed that wheat grain yield statistically significantly correlated with nitrogen fertilizer application rates. The correlative relationships were very strong (r = 0.983 and r = 0.987). Irrespective of additional fertilization, genetic properties of the cultivars also had influence on the yield.

This Country Program Evaluation (CPE) with Honduras covers the period between January 2011 and April 2014 and is the fourth occasion on which the Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE) has evaluated the Bank's program with the country. Previous evaluations covered the periods 1990-2000 (document RE-263), 2001-2006 (document RE-328), and 2007-2010 (document RE-390). Under the Protocol for Country Program Evaluation (document RE-348-3), the main goal of a CPE is to "provide information on Bank performance at the country level that is credible and useful, and that enables the incorporation of lessons and recommendations that can be used to improve the development effectiveness of the Bank's overall strategy and program of country assistance."The current country strategy (document GN-2645) was approved in November 2011 and does not coincide with the country's political cycle. President Porfirio Lobo's administration was in office from January 2010 to January 2014. IDB Management expects to submit a new country strategy to the Board of Executive Directors in December 2014. The evaluation is structured into four chapters, plus an annex. Chapter I analyzes the general context of the country. Chapter II provides a general analysis of the Bank's program between January 2011 and April 2014, with particular attention devoted to the relevance of the country strategy and an analysis of the program actually implemented. This document presents the results of the evaluation of the Bank's country program with Costa Rica for the period 2011-2014. This is the fourth time the Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE) has provided an independent review of the Bank's program with Costa Rica. The first Country Program Evaluation (CPE) in 2003 covered the period 1990-2001, during which an open trade model was consolidated, leading to substantial foreign direct investment. The second CPE covered the period 2002-2006, in which the country was heavily exposed to external shocks. The third and most recent evaluation, covering 2007-2011, highlighted the difficulty of forging linkages between the mostdynamic sectors and the rest of the economy, and drew attention to the State's dwindling capacity to finance investments as a result of its low tax burden and heavy expenditure rigidities. The evaluation was conducted in accordance with the OVE mandate (document RE-238 corr.) and the Protocol for Country Program Evaluations (document RE-348-2). Its main purposes are to facilitate accountability and identify lessons learned that can enhance the Bank's future program. The evaluation took into account the new country strategy paper models (document GN-2468-6) developed by Management, the most significant practical effects of which were: (i) the de facto separation of the formulation of the country strategy and the programming of operations; (ii) the new emphasis on sector notes; and (iii) the updating of the strategy results matrix and programming documents. The production of this document involved interviews with some 200 people, including the Bank's main counterpart (the Ministry of Finance); sector-level executing units and the staff responsible for them at the ministerial level; as well as civil society organizations, academics, representatives of international organizations in Costa Rica, and the Bank's Representative and Country Office and headquarters staff. OVE is particularly grateful to the participants in the 22 workshops held in the country, and also to the Regional Manager's Office, the Bank's staff in the Country Office, and the people and authorities of Costa Rica for their generous hospitality. To fulfill the goal of analyzing the Bank's work during this strategy cycle, OVE reviewed a portfolio of all loans and technical cooperation programs approved between 2011 and 2014, as well as those approved earlier but mostly executed during this period. The lessons learned from this CPE should to serve as a useful input not only when preparing the next country strategy with Costa Rica, but also for the Bank to further enhance its service to similar middle-income countries, where access to alternative sources of financing presents new opportunities and challenges for the Bank.

This document is the evaluation of the IDB's Country Program with Paraguay for the 2009-2013 period. The period evaluated here (hereinafter, the 'review period') was characterized by a political crisis and the intensification of the agricultural export model. This evaluation has been conducted in accordance with OVE's mandate (RE-238 corr.) and the Protocol for Country Program Evaluation (RE-348-2). Its main purposes are to facilitate accountability and identify lessons learned that may help improve the Bank's future program. The evaluation took into account the new country strategy document formats (CSD, GN-2468-6) developed by Management. The most significant practical effects of the new CSD formats were: (i) the de facto separation between the preparation of the CSD and country programming; (ii) the new emphasis on sector notes; and (iii) the update of the strategy's results matrix and the programming documents. To achieve the dual purpose of accountability and learning, the team has put together a portfolio that includes all the operations approved in the period (2009-2013) together with those approved previously, but executed during this period. The specific details of the portfolio and the main sectors are included in the annexes to this document (Portfolio, Energy, Water and Sanitation, Roads, Social Sector, and Agriculture). During the preparation of this document some 150 people were interviewed, including the Bank's main counterparts (the Minister of Finance and his two predecessors), executing units, members of civil society, scholars, representatives of multilateral and bilateral agencies with a presence in Paraguay, the Bank's Representative (ad interim), and two former Representatives of the Bank in Paraguay, IDB staff at the Bank's Country Office and at Headquarters. The mission also visited eight projects to observe the outcomes and challenges of the Bank's program in situ.

Denne rapport har til formål at sammenfatte, hvordan HF-uddannelsen på Steinersko-lerne har fungeret, siden den implementeredes i 2018. Evalueringen har over en 2-årig periode fulgt to hovedspor, nemlig på den ene side et spørgeskema til alle elever på Steiner HF og på den anden side kvalitative interviews med rektorer og lærere ved de 5 HF-skoler inden for sammenslutningen af Steinersko-lerne i Danmark. Spørgeskemaet sigtede efter at frembringe et samlet overblik over eleverne (køn og so-cial baggrund), deres vurdering af HF-undervisningen ved de 5 skoler, deres ønsker om videre uddannelse efter HF og tillige også, om de har haft behov for at supplere deres HF-uddannelse med gymnasiale suppleringskurser for at kunne blive optaget på den uddannelse, de har ønsket at gennemføre. Samtalerne med rektorer og lærere har i særdeleshed været optaget af, hvordan de 5 skoler har formået at implementere de mange og omfattende ændringer, som en over-gang fra friskole til kombineret institution med privat gymnasium har indebåret. Æn-dringerne har bestået i faglig kompetenceudvikling af lærere ved skolerne (f.eks. i form af universitetseksamener og pædagogikum), rekruttering af nye lærere til at dække de fag, HF forudsættes at omfatte, og ikke mindst organisatoriske forandringer som følge af etableringen af HF på 5 Steinerskoler. Disse interviews blev gennemført af videnska-belig assistent Naya Lykke Jørgensen og ph.d.-studerende Malene Engsig Brodersen, DPU. På grundlag heraf skrev Naya og Malene en samlet rapport, som blev drøftet med følgegruppen og rektorer på et møde i maj måned 2022. Fra mødet og efterfølgende ind-kom kommentarer og forslag til forbedringer, som er indgået i den endelige rapport, der udgør en del af denne samlede afrapportering. Selve evalueringen har fundet sted i et tæt samarbejde med skolernes følgegruppe og Steinerskolernes sekretariat. Et første udkast til elektronisk spørgeskema udformet af projektleder med teknisk bistand fra ph.d.-studerende Anders Astrup Christensen, DPU, diskuteredes ad flere omgange, inden det fandt sin endelige og således også rele-vante form, bl.a. efter at have været pilottestet af tidligere HF-elever. Målet var at skabe sikkerhed for, at eleverne kunne forstå spørgsmålene og dermed var sikre på, hvad de blev bedt om at svare på. Skemaet udsendtes august 2021 til Steiner HFs første kuld som surveyXact. Besvarelsesprocenten var over 85, hvilket betød, at forskere og følgegruppe havde et bredt og robust fundament for at kunne gennemgå det indkomne materiale og foretage de første deskriptive analyser af fundene i skemaet. I løbet af efteråret 2021 og foråret 2022 blev skemaet endnu engang gennemgået i dybden, spørgsmål tilrettet og nye spørgsmål tilføjet. Derefter udsendtes det reviderede skema til alle tidligere HF-ele- ver, hvorved et ensartet grundlag for besvarelse var sikret. I alt udsendtes skemaet i au- gust 2022 til 360 elever. Heraf besvarede 344 enten hele spørgeskemaet eller betydelige dele heraf. Selve rapporten er opbygget i tre dele. Første del (A) gennemgår fundene i spørgeske- maet, anden del (B) består af en rapport byggende på samtaler og interviews med rekto- rer og lærere, mens tredje del (C) består af oversigter over kompetenceløftet for under- viserne. Vi vil gerne benytte lejligheden til at takke rektorer, lærere, HF-unge samt følgegruppen for venlig imødekommenhed og frugtbare diskussioner undervejs i forløbet.
