Abstract:
This thesis purports to determine the nature of the relationship between time, duration and eternity and to shed light on the meaning of a conception sub specie aeternitatis. It falls into two halves: the first is devoted to an examination of the ontological nature of eternity (ch. 1) and of its modalities according to the type of being (finite or infinite) to which it is applied; bringing out its status as a common notion (ch. 2 & 3) and concluding with a translation of the sub specie aeternitatis formula as "under a gaze of eternity". The second half aims to solve the paradox involved in a temporalization of eternity, by distinguishing between the formal and the eminent (ch. 1); to remove the obstacles to an understanding of the relationship between duration and eternity (ch. 2); it sheds light on the existence of a twofold causality: a proximate one for eternal things, a remote one for durable ones ; and bases their mutual articulation upon the model of the link between temporary precepts and the universal doctrine of religion (ch. 3). Finally, the sphere of extension of duration is defined through an exhibition of the criteria for an indefinite existence (ch. 4)

Davies, James P. "Paul among the apocalypses? : an evaluation of the 'apocalyptic Paul' in the context of Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/6945.

Abstract:
One of the most lively and enduring debates in New Testament studies is the question of the significance of ‘apocalyptic' thought in Paul. This has recently given birth to a group of scholars, with a common theological genealogy, who share a concern to emphasise the ‘apocalyptic' nature of Paul's gospel. Leading figures of this group are J. Louis Martyn, Martinus de Boer, Beverly Gaventa and Douglas Campbell. The work of this group has not been received without criticism, drawing fire from various quarters. However, what is often lacking (on both sides) is detailed engagement with the texts of the Jewish and Christian apocalypses. This dissertation attempts to evaluate the ‘apocalyptic Paul' movement through an examination of its major theological emphases in the light of the Jewish apocalypses 1 Enoch, 4 Ezra, 2 Baruch and the Christian book of Revelation. Placing Paul in this literary and historical context confirms his place as an apocalyptic thinker, but raises important questions about how this is construed in these recent approaches. Each chapter will address one of four interrelated themes: epistemology, eschatology, cosmology and soteriology. The study intends to suggest that the ‘apocalyptic Paul' movement is characterised at key points in each area by potentially false dichotomies, strict dualisms which unnecessarily screen out what Paul's apocalyptic thought affirms.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates how understandings of history in diverse texts of the Graeco-Roman period illuminate Lukan eschatology. Two strands of Lukan scholarship have contributed to an enduring tendency to underestimate the centrality of eschatology to Luke/Acts. Hans Conzelmann's thesis, that Luke focused on history rather than eschatology as a response to the parousia's delay, has dominated Lukan scholarship since the mid-twentieth century, with concomitant assumptions about Luke's politics and understanding of suffering. Recent Lukan scholarship has centred instead on genre and rhetoric, examining Luke/Acts predominantly in relation to ancient texts deemed the same genre while overlooking themes (including those of an eschatological character) that these texts do not share. This thesis offers a fresh approach. It illuminates the inherent connections between Luke's understanding of history and its end, and demonstrates significant ways in which Luke's eschatological consciousness shapes key themes of his account. By extending comparisons to a wider range of texts, this study overcomes two clear methodological shortfalls in current research: limiting comparisons of key themes to texts of similar genre, and separating non-Jewish from Jewish texts. Having established the need for a new examination of Luke's eschatology in Chapter 1, in Chapter 2 I set out the study's method of comparing diverse texts on themes that cut across genres. Chapters 3 to 6 then consider each key text and Luke/Acts in relation to a different aspect of their writers' conceptions of history: the direction and shape of history; determinism and divine guidance; human culpability and freedom; and the present and the end of history. The analysis shows that in every aspect of history examined, Luke/Acts shares significant features of the texts with which, because they do not share its genre, it is not normally compared. Setting Luke/Acts in conversation with a broader range of texts highlights Luke's periodised, teleological view of history and provides a nuanced picture of Luke's understanding of divine and human agency, all of which is affected in fundamental ways by his portrayal of the present time already within the final period of history. As a result, this study not only clarifies Lukan eschatology, but reaffirms the importance of eschatology for Lukan politics and theodicy.

Musta, Mustafa Nail. "Implementation Of Turbulence Models Into A Navier-stokes Solver." Master's thesis, METU, 2004. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/2/12605357/index.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
In order to handle turbulent flow problems, one equation turbulence models are implemented in to a previously developed explicit, Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes solver. Discretization of Navier-Stokes solver is based on cell-vertex finite volume formulation combined with single step Lax-Wendroff numerical method which is second order accurate in space. Turbulent viscosity is calculated by using one equation Spalart-Allmaras and Baldwin-Barth turbulence transport equations. For the discretization of Spalart-Allmaras and Baldwin-Barth equations, both finite volume scheme which is used for Navier-Stokes equation in this work and explicit finite difference discretization method are used. In order to increase the convergence rate of the solver, local time stepping technique is applied. Stabilization of non-physical oscillations resulting from the numerical scheme is maintained by adding second and fourth order artificial smoothing terms. Three test cases are considered. In order to validate the accuracy of the Navier-Stokes solver, solver is tested over a laminar flat plate. The results are compared with analytical solutions. Later, in order to check the performance of the turbulence models, turbulent flow over flat plate and turbulent transonic flow over NACA-0012 airfoil are handled. For turbulent flow over flat plate obtained results are compared with analytical and empirical solutions, whereas for transonic turbulent flow obtained results are compared with numerical and experimental solutions.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the genetic structure and the spatial pattern of intra and interpopulational gene flow of Dipteryx alata Vogel, based on nuclear and chloroplastidial microsatellite markers. Primers were developed based on sequencing of random fragments from a shotgun genomic library for detection of microsatellite regions. 12 microsatellites regions were obtained from 688 sequences, which allowed the construction of pairs of primers. These regions are composed of motifs with two to six nucleotides, ranging from 136 to 380 base pairs. This shows that the random sequencing strategy from shotgun libraries is interesting because it allows the achievement of primers for repetitive regions with different motifs. Two of these loci (Da_E06 e Da_E12) were polymorphic with three alleles each. He estimation for these loci showed satisfactory values (0.2946 and 0.2879, respectively), considering the number of alleles. Also, we used a transferred primer from the species Phaseolus vulgaris (BM164) for D. alata. Moreover, other two chloroplastidials microsatellite primers were used for molecular analyses of georeferenced subpopulations, totalizing 775 plants distributed over the natural occurrence area of Cerrado. 210 of these plants were collected and georeferenced one by one along the margins of the Araguaia River in the states of Mato-Grosso (RAMT) and Goiás (RAGO) for spatial distribution of genetic variability in local scale analysis. The relationship between estimations of genetic diversity parameters with patterns of potential distribution of species was evaluated. This was used to test the hypothesis that the genetic variability of D. alata populations is distributed according to the central-periphery model. D. alata subpopulations showed considerable high levels of genetic variability that was significantly structured among subpopulations and well structured in space, both for nuclear and chloroplastidial data. The estimation of the apparent cross-fertilization rate (ta = 1.0575) indicates that the species is allogamous. Estimations of migration rates by pollen and by seeds were lower than one, indicating that seed dispersal contributes more effectively for total gene flow. Estimates of the genetic diversity parameters from the Araguaia River population showed similar values between both margins. The estimation of the apparent cross-fertilization rate (0.9434) indicated that the Araguaia River is not a physical barrier to effective gene flow. The effective size of the neighborhood, i.e., the mean number of individuals in an area where panmixia occurs was 85.64 and 22.99 for nuclear and chloroplastidial data, respectively, indicating that seed dispersal is more restricted. The correlogram generated with chloroplastidial data presented a cline pattern of variance more evident than with nuclear data, suggesting that the presence of spatial genetic structure is being more influenced by seed dispersal. We observed that the genetic parameters do not follow a classical central-periphery model, because peripheral population (according to geographical distribution of sampling locations) tended to demonstrate higher values for these estimations, mainly the South and Western subpopulations. The relationship found between the fixation index (f) with human impact indicated that the subpopulations evaluated can be affected by fragmentation process and land use, probably caused by the recent human colonization in Cerrado biome.

The work aimed to achieve the kinetic study of the physical and chemical characteristics of the pulp baru, through physical and chemical analyses, with focus on tannins, for 6 months of storage. We used two treatments, washing fruits of barus with and without sanitation, both stored in plastic boxes with circulating air, clean and a place under the sun and at room temperature. The proximate composition of the pulp baru occurred in two stages: beginning and end of the study. There was fortnightly analyses in the first 45 days and then of forty-five to forty-five days, for 6 months. It was evaluated in the pulp content of tannins, total and reducing sugars, color and proof of rancidity, and the whole fruit weight and size; addition to microbiological analyses of pulp at each time of storage. There was also a sensory analysis of acceptance of dry biscuit, with and without the replacement of 25% for wheat flour by pulp baru, three times of storage. The results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANAVA) and Tukey's test (P<0.05). In compositions centesimals observed that the levels of moisture and fibre increased significantly (P<0.05) at the end of the study, while the level of lipids decreased significantly (P<0.05) and the content of protein has remained equal. The levels of reducing sugars and totals have increased over the period of storage. To this total sugar content increased from 22.70% to 47.02% and 23.18% to 48.18% for pulp washing with and without sanitation, respectively. We have increased significantly reducing sugars (P<0.05) over the storage more than 2.5 times for the two parameters evaluated. The content of tannins decreased until the third time, since there is more of that component to the 46 days of storage. It was found that the stage of hygiene caused a decrease in the level of tannins, giving the fruit pulp with hygiene always a lower value for this compound, conversely to what happened with the color of the raw material. The physical parameters of fruit showed no significant differences (P>0.05) to the end of the study. The survey showed that store barus in hygienic conditions increases the shelf life of the flesh of the fruit.

Abstract:
This study is an exercise in understanding both doctrinally and pastorally the nature of knowledge of God for persons with intellectual disabilities. Its central question is: “How might one know the Word of God without words?” At present, no extended theological systematical consideration has taken place of this question, and confusion arguably exists in the church and wider disability circles as to if/how persons with high support needs, such as intellectual disability, should be afforded pastoral care. This study addresses this need in dialogue with Karl Barth’s theological insights, and by developing an account of knowledge of God for persons with intellectual disabilities that is at once theologically informed and pastorally effective. In the last thirty years theological reflection considered in light of the situation of disability has seen tremendous growth and change, as the discipline has budded and blossomed. In particular, theologians of disability have reflected on the significance of disability in relation to the Christian doctrines of creation, anthropology, Christology, the imago Dei, ecclesiology and eschatology, amongst others, with rich and varied results. Similarly, this project suggests that consideration of the doctrine of revelation and the discipline of pastoral care in light of the situation of intellectual disability will yield unique and valuable outcomes for the disability community, but also for the wider church. Karl Barth will be the primary dialogue partner in these preparatory, theological stages. His thought regarding the incarnation of the Word in various forms, perhaps surprisingly, opens new avenues for our reflection. By engaging Barth’s theological anthropology as well as his theology of co-humanity of being with others in encounter, this project aims to demonstrate that knowledge of God is possible for all persons of all abilities.

The objective of this work was to investigate the feasibility of the pell and flesh of the baru, while ingredient in the development of bread-form. From the formulation of a bread standard were developed four types of breads so using to peel and flesh of baru in different proportions (PCB25 - 25.00%, PCB50 - 50.00%, PCB75-75, 00% and PCB100 - 100.00%) to replace the farelo of wheat. The peel and flesh of baru were analyzed for microbiological quality, levels of moisture, protein, lipids, carbohydrates, fiber, ash, pH, content of soluble solids. With the exception of the last two analisys, the others have been held for breads, even to the sensory analysis, specific volume and density. The results were analyzed by the coefficient of variation, analysis of variance, test Tukey (p <0.05) and correlation of Pearson. The analysis of the composition centesimal of the peel and flesh of the baru revealed a high content of carbohydrates (65.00%) and fiber (4.00%), a low concentration of protein and lipid (4.00% and 3.00%, respectively). The peel and flesh of baru presented concentration of soluble solids with a value of 5.00 ° Brix and pH equal to 5.40. The breads have developed an average 34.00% moisture, 2.00% ash, 2.00% of lipids, 13.00% of protein, 42.00% of carbohydrates and 6.00% of total fiber food. There was an increase in up to 58.20% in the content of FAT with increasing proportion of the peel and flesh of the baru. All samples were accepted on the attributes appearance, texture and flavor, and is considered low in total fat, not showing significant difference between them on the content of protein and moisture. The results of microbiological analysis was favorable. The survey showed that the peel and flesh of baru are feasible for implementing technological ingredient in breads, giving improves the nutritional characteristics and sensory attributes.

Producing seedlings of good quality is an important step in the process of planting forest species. Addition of lime and fertilizers contribute in obtaining good quality seedlings, however, information is limited on fertilization and nutrition of native species of savannah. The objective of this study was to evaluate growth response of baru seedlings (Dipteryx alata Vog.) to organic and mineral fertilizers. Seedlings were produced in plastic bags with a diameter of 20 cm x 30 cm and capacity of four liters of substrate. Clay Dark Red Latosol collected from subsoil (20 cm depth) from Federal District of Planaltina, DF was used. The first experiment was conducted in complete randomized blocks, with eleven treatments in a factorial arrangement (4X2), with three replications (composed of seedlings coming from different matrix) and plots consisted of three seedlings. The treatments tested were E0+D0, E10+D0, E20+D0, E30+D0, E0+D1, E0+D2, E0+ALL, E10+D1, E10+D2, E10+ALL and E20+D1, where: E0, E10, E20 and E30 are doses of cattle manure varied from 0 to 30% in relation to final volume of mixed subsoil; D1 and D2 are traditional rates of chemical fertilizers, and D2 is double of D1 and D1 equivalent to dolomitic lime incorporated in the subsoil (0,5 g L-1) + P (150 mg L-1) + K (200 mg L-1) + Zn (5 mg L-1) + Cu (5 mg L-1) + Mn (5 mg L-1) + B (1 mg L-1) + Mo (0,5 mg L-1) + N (50 mg recipient-1 month-1, diluted in water); P and K were applied in the form of triple superphosphate and potassium chloride, respectively, Zn, Cu and Mn in the form of sulfates, B and Mo in the forms of borax and sodium molibidate, respectively.; ALL is symbol of slow release fertilizer in six months (2.4 g recipient-1 after emergence of seedlings and five months of age), contain N (15%), P2O5 (10%), K2O (10%), Ca (3,5), Mg (1,5%), S (3%), B (0,02%), Cu (0,05%), Fe (0,5%), Mn (0,1%), Zn (0,05%) and Mo (0,004%). In others experiments (1, 2, 3, and 4) baru seedlings were submitted to four rates of dolomitic lime (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 g L-1 of substrate), P (0, 150, 300 and 600 mg L-1), K (0,100, 200 and 400 mg L-1) and N (0, 50, 100 and 200 mg seedling-1 month-1), in combination with two rates of cattle manure (10% and 20% in relation to final volume of mixture with subsoil). These experiments were conducted in complete randomized blocks in a factorial arrangement (4x2), with three replications (composed of seedlings coming from different matrix) and plots consisted of three seedlings. Source of N was urea (45% N), P triple superphosphate (45% P2O5), and K potassium chloride (60% K2O), respectively. After eight month of seedlings age following observations were made: Stem diameter of 5 cm height, plant height, top dry matter, soil and leaves chemical analysis for each treatment combination. In the first experiment, baru seedlings presented positive response to addition of traditional chemical fertilizers (rates D1 and D2) and slow release (ALL). Organic manure improved growth of seedlings with the addition of 20% and 30% cattle manure, however there was no difference between two rates. All treatments tested permitted production of seedlings of good quality for commercial sale and planting in the field, except of control treatment without fertilization (E0%+D0) and which received only 10% cattle manure with addition of subsoil (E10%+D0). Organic manure (20% cattle manure) and mineral fertilizers (D1, D2 and ALL) increased fertility of the substrate and leaf concentrations of N, P, K, S and Zn. In the experiments 1 and 4, seedlings presented positive growth to cattle manure incorporated in the subsoil, rate 20% better than rate 10%. Incorporation of cattle manure in the subsoil in the dose of 20%, supplied adequate fertilization in the substrate and foliar nutrition for growth and mineral nutrition of baru seedlings. In the presence of cattle manure incorporated in the subsoil in the 10 and 20% rates, seedling growth response was negative with the addition of potassium and there was no response with the addition of lime and phosphorus. Nitrogen topdressing monthly gave positive response to growth and height, stem diameter, top dry weight, when applied after incorporation of cattle manure in the subsoil in the dose of 10%, but response was positive in relation to height with rate of 20% cattle manure.

Abstract:
Introduction: Diagnosing inborn metabolic diseases, as a large subgroup of rare diseases, due to their rarity and wide variety of clinical manifestations, can be demanding and often prolonged. Objective: The aim of this work is, with the regard to clinical, biochemical and genetical aspects of selected rare diseases, to contribute to their rapid detection, widen the features of the natural course of the disease and contribute to their preventability. Material: This work includes cohort studies of patiens with cardiac manifestations in mitochondrial diseases, namely a group of 48 patients with TMEM70 protein deficiency, a group of 4 patients with Barth syndrome and individual cases of rare mitochondrial cardiomyopathies, thimidine kinase 2 deficiency and alanyl tRNA synthetase 2 deficiency. By determining the frequency, severity and type of heart disease, the phenotype was expanded, and the design of a therapeutic algorithm then made a positive impact on the prognosis of these patients. The work is also focused on the role of cardiac disease in the differential diagnosis of other genetically determined rare diseases, Marfan's syndrome and especially Pompe disease, where the emphasis is on early diagnosis, mainly due to the existence of an effective therapy. Focus on a broader differential diagnosis...
