Despite being such an old field development drilling is still ongoing in the field with the less permeable northwest area currently being developed.

Abstract:
La détermination de la contribution radiative des aérosols constitue l'un des enjeux des sciences du climat. Au-dessus des continents, où sont localisées les principales sources d'émission, la connaissance de la contribution des surfaces constitue la principale limitation des méthodes de détection des aérosols. Les travaux présentés ici portent principalement sur le développement d'une méthode originale de caractérisation des aérosols au-dessus des surfaces continentales, basée sur la mesure polarisée étendue dans le moyen infrarouge. Cette méthode repose principalement sur l'hypothèse que la contribution polarisée des sols est spectralement neutre du visible au moyen-infrarouge (0. 67-2. 2 µm). À 2. 2 µm, les effets de l'atmosphère étant minimisés, cette mesure permet une estimation directe de la contribution polarisée des surfaces. Pour étudier l'apport de ces longueurs d'onde additionnelles, un polarimètre multispectral aéroporté, nommé MICROPOL, a été développé au laboratoire (LOA), avec le soutien du CNES, de l'USTL et de la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Cet instrument a participé à de nombreuses campagnes de mesures au-dessus des terres (région Nord, étude de particules de pollution et des surfaces) et des mers. Après une première étape de caractérisation instrumentale, nous avons développé, pour ce capteur, un algorithme de détection des aérosols au-dessus des surfaces océaniques
Une comparaison des paramètres des aérosols restitués par cet algorithme, avec des mesures au sol, a permis de valider l'ensemble de l'instrument et la méthode utilisée. Notre instrument, associé à un lidar aéroporté (radar optique), a également permis de caractériser spatialement et verticalement les propriétés des aérosols naturels observés en mer Méditerranée. Au-dessus des terres, un nouvel algorithme de détection, s'appuyant sur la mesure polarisée à 2. 2 µm a été développé et évalué. Une étude des propriétés polarisantes des surfaces a confirmé la bonne neutralité spectrale des sols du visible au moyen-infrarouge. La mesure à 2. 2 µm a donc été utilisée pour estimer la contribution des surfaces dans l'ensemble des bandes spectrales. Une méthode, plus classique, basée sur l'utilisation de la luminance totale, a également été considérée. La comparaison des deux approches montre que seule la méthode basée sur l'utilisation de l'information multispectrale polarisée permet, dans le cas de particules de pollution, de restituer les paramètres de taille et de charge des aérosols, à la fois au-dessus des surfaces naturelles et urbaines. Le travail présenté ici constitue une étape importante de validation instrumentale et méthodologique, dans le cadre du développement d'un capteur spatial, polarisé, multiangulaire et multispectrale qui fait suite à POLDER et qui préfigure l'instrument OSIRIS

Toxoplasmosis is a protozoosis of high incidence in the world, caused by Toxoplasma gondii, transmitted by the ingestion of food contaminated by oocysts found in feline feces, or cists in raw or underdone meat, congenitally in other instances. The disease is usually asymptomatic, but in embryos or in imunodrepessive patients it may be devastating. In this work, the experimental serologic profile has been evaluated after specific therapy in isogenies mice Balbc, infected with a cystogenic lineage ME-49 of T. gondii. Fifty animals have been intra-peritoneal inoculated with 10 cists of T. gondii (lineage ME-49) obtained from the maceration of mice brains of previously inoculated mice. The mice have been divided into three groups of 15 animals each and a negative control group (not infected and not treated) of 5 animals. All the animals have been daily accompanied, and the symptoms were verified during 20 days. After this period, two groups of 15 animals underwent specific therapy schemes in which; group A: pirimetamin (12,5mg/kg/day) + folic acid; group B: pirimetamin + folic acid + sulfadiazine (500mg/kg/day), orally administrated during 10 consecutive days. After this period, all animals have been scarified, with an interval of 5 days, and the blood has been collected by a heart puncture and the serum separated for the Indirect Immuno-fluorescence Reaction. The samples from the treated animals presented a significant diminution in the quantity of (IgG) antibodies evaluated by the two schemes by the indirect immuno-fluorescence reaction (t=3,5, and t=7,6 respectively), in relation to the control group. There have been no significant differences between the two therapeutic schemes (t=0,36). Our results have shown that the experimental precocious treatment reduces significantly the IgG levels, suggesting a diminution of antigenic stimulus, and consequently a better prognosis for toxoplasmosis.
A Toxoplasmose é uma protozoose de alta prevalência mundial, causada pelo Toxoplasma gondii. É transmitida pela ingestão de alimentos contaminados com oocistos excretados em fezes de felinos, ou cistos, em carnes cruas ou mal cozidas, congenitamente entre outros mecanismos. A doença é usualmente assintomática, mas em fetos e/ou pacientes com imunodepressão, pode ser devastadora. Neste trabalho foi avaliado o perfil sorológico experimental após terapêutica especifica em camundongos isogênicos Balb/C infectados com cepa cistogênica ME-49 de T. gondii. Cinqüenta animais foram inoculados intraperitonealmente, individualmente, com 10 cistos da cepa ME-49 obtidos de macerado de cérebros de camundongos previamente inoculados. Os camundongos foram divididos em três grupos com 15 animais em cada grupo e um grupo controle negativo de 5 animais (não infectados e não tratados). Todos os animais foram acompanhados diariamente, observando-se sintomatologia, por 20 dias. Após este período dois grupos A e B, foram submetidos a esquemas terapêuticos específicos; Grupo A: pirimetamina (12,5mg/kg/dia)+acido fólico; grupo B: pirimetamina+acido fólico+sulfadiazina (500mg/kg/dia), por um período de 10 dias consecutivos, por via oral, onde as drogas foram ministradas de acordo com o peso dos animais. Após este período eles foram sacrificados, com intervalo de 5 dias, o sangue coletado por punção cardíaca, e o soro separado para a reação de imunofluorescência indireta. As amostras provenientes dos animais tratados apresentaram diminuição significativa nos títulos de anticorpos (IgG) avaliados com os dois esquemas, pela Reação de Imunofluorescência Indireta (t=3.5, e t=7,6 respectivamente), em relação ao grupo controle. Entre os dois esquemas terapêuticos não houve diferenças significativas (t=0,36). Nossos resultados demonstraram que o tratamento experimental precoce reduz significativamente os níveis de IgG, sugerindo uma diminuição do estimulo antigênico, e conseqüentemente um melhor prognóstico para a toxoplasmose.

Abstract:
The right to be entitled to compensation for injuries sustained in the course of employment has always been an essential component of basic social security rights. Provision is made in the international sphere by the International Labour Organization and the United Nations. In the regional sphere there are standards that apply within the Southern African Development Community, and on a national level the rights are provided in terms of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, 103 of 1993 (COIDA). COIDA provides for a system of no fault compensation for employees who have sustained injuries or contracted occupational diseases during the course of their employment. “No fault compensation” provides that an employee does not have to prove fault with the employer or any other party in to be entitled to claim compensation. COIDA’s main purpose is to provide for compensation for disablement caused by occupational injuries or diseases sustained or contracted by defined employees in the course of their employment. Section 49 of COIDA provides for compensation for permanent disablements. In terms of section 49, the Commissioner must assess the permanent disablement of the employee by applying Schedule 2 of COIDA, which stipulates percentages of disablement for different injuries or mutilations. By “matching” the injury or mutilation from which the employee is suffering to the corresponding injury or mutilation provided for in Schedule 2, the Commissioner is then able to determine the degree of permanent disablement. Discretions are also granted to the Commissioner in terms of which he is allowed to determine the degree of disablement suffered by an employee under certain circumstances. The nature and amount of compensation awarded depend on the degree of disablement that the employee is afflicted with. Compensation for permanent disablement may be paid either in a lump sum or a monthly pension depending on the degree of disablement determined. Problems arise with the application of both these approaches of determining the permanent disablement of an employee. The guidelines in Schedule 2 have been previously described to be applied “mechanically” with no consideration being given to the individual circumstances of the employee. In practice the discretion granted to the Commissioner in terms of section 49 is often not applied judicially, which has led to numerous objections being lodged against the initial amount of compensation granted. The lack of medical expertise at the initial assessment of the disablement, and the “mechanical application” of Schedule 2, often lead to the incorrect determination of the degree of permanent disablement from which the employee is actually suffering. The determination of the degree of disablement is often not consistent with Schedule 2 of COIDA and results in an unjustifiable amount of compensation granted to the employee which holds no relation to the impairment suffered. The core question that needs to be considered is whether and to what extent the employee is still useful for the labour market in the line of his or her employment, and the disablement should be assessed in the light thereof.

Abstract:
Diabetes disproportionately affects minority populations. Social support, and more specifically marriage, has been found to buffer the negative effects of diabetes and depression. Data collected from African Americans with type 2 diabetes in Atlanta and NHANES data were compared to examine whether marriage affects health status and mental health. Approximately, 1742 African Americans aged 18-80 were included in this study. Chi square analysis revealed that married men had lower rates of depression (15.9% vs. 24.7%) compared to unmarried men (p < 0.05), but the same effect was not found in women. The findings show that marriage was not associated with HbA1c, but was associated with rates of depression. The lack of association of HbA1c with marriage may be because marriage may not be the best proxy of social support in the African American community. Future research should focus on alternative forms of social support such as cohabitation, extend family, and friend.

This thesis has as its main objective the study and critical edition of the four passion plays included in the very important dramatic Majorcan play codex (end of the sixteenth century), known as the Llabrés Manuscript (Ms. 1139 of the Biblioteca de Catalunya). These four passion plays, each of which contains a play for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, can be considered the central pivot for the other plays included in the manuscript either for prefiguring some scene of the Passion of Christ or for illustrating some aspect of the history of Redemption. Abstract:
La protéine Damaged DNA-Binding 2 (DDB2) est connue pour son rôle dans la réparation de l'ADN lésé par les UV. Cependant, le laboratoire a montré que cette protéine est surexprimée naturellement dans les cellules tumorales mammaires non métastatiques et active leur prolifération, en favorisant leur entrée en phase de transition G1/S du cycle cellulaire. Il a été montré que cette nouvelle activité biologique de DDB2 dépend de sa capacité à intervenir dans la transcription de gènes cibles, comme celui codant l'enzyme anti-oxydante, la superoxyde dismutase à manganèse (SOD Mn). Sur la base que DDB2 est peu ou pas exprimée dans les cellules tumorales mammaires métastatiques, ce travail a consisté à étudier le rôle de cette protéine dans les capacités invasives de ces cellules. Dans un 1er temps, nous avons montré que les cellules tumorales mammaires hautement métastatiques (MDA-MB231 et SKBR3), lorsqu'elles surexpriment DDB2 après introduction de son gène, ont des capacités migratrices et invasives in vitro, ainsi que des propriétés in vivo à développer des métastases pulmonaires, fortement réduites, en association avec une diminution importante de l'expression de la métalloprotéase matricielle 9 (MMP-9). De même, lors d'une analyse rétrospective sur 92 échantillons cliniques provenant de patientes, une corrélation inverse entre l'expression de DDB2 et le haut grade (SBR>ou =3) des tumeurs mammaires est observée. Dans un 2ème temps, nous avons identifié le mécanisme moléculaire par lequel DDB2 agit négativement sur les capacités invasives des cellules tumorales mammaires. Nous avons montré que DDB2 intervient positivement sur l'expression du gène codant I kappa B alpha (IkBa), en se fixant sur une séquence d'ADN localisée dans la région proximale du promoteur, qui entraîne en conséquence une forte diminution de l'activité du facteur de transcription NF-kB. Ce dernier est connu pour son rôle dans les capacités invasives et migratrices des cellules tumorales mammaires métastatiques, en régulant de nombreux gènes cibles comme celui codant la MMP-9. Nous avons montré, que l?inhibition de l'expression d'IkBa, par ARN interférence restaure en partie les propriétés invasives des cellules tumorales mammaires métastatiques surexprimant DDB2, en association avec une réexpression de MMP-9. Dans un 3ème temps, nous avons également montré dans les cellules tumorales mammaires métastatiques, que l?expression constitutivement élevée de la SOD Mn, en l'absence de DDB2, dépend de l'activité conjointe des facteurs de transcription NF-kB et Sp1, révélant ainsi un autre mécanisme moléculaire impliqué dans les propriétés invasives de ces cellules. L'ensemble de ce travail contribue ainsi à mieux comprendre comment les cellules tumorales mammaires progressent vers un statut invasif et renforce également l'idée que DDB2 présente un intérêt clinique potentiel, comme marqueur prédictif de la progression métastatique des tumeurs mammaires. Enfin, la relation entre la DDB2, NF-kB et la SOD Mn représente une voie intéressante pour le développement de nouvelles thérapies anticancéreuses.

Crown rot in durum, caused by Fusarium pseudograminearum and Fusarium culmorum, can reduce yields up to 90% in seasons characterised by limited spring rainfall. To decrease this potential loss, breeding of partially resistant cultivars could complement agronomic approaches. However, the limited variation in durum has meant that development of partially resistant lines is still a major objective to overcome. The aim of this study was to evaluate, through genotypic and phenotypic-based approaches, durum lines with partial resistance to crown rot. The germplasm under study consisted of 252 durum lines obtained by crossing durum parents with partially resistant bread wheat varieties. Phenotypic assessment of the symptoms, accomplished by visual assessment of the fungal necrosis of the stems, led to the identification of 120 partially resistant lines. Genotypic assessment, performed through a SNP array, identified associations between marker genotype and crown rot severity for the family originating from the parents EGA Bellaroi 38a and Sumai 3. Moreover, the frequency of QTL for crown rot partial resistance already published was investigated in the populations under study through the multiplex ready PCR technique. These findings confirm that bread wheat varieties can be exploited to reduce crown rot severity in durum.

Oewerbewoners as eienaars van grand is geregtig op die onverstoorde gebruik en genot van hulle eiendom. Daarteenoor is kanovaarders ook daarop geregtig om op openbare ri vi ere vir wedvaarte te oefen. Di t is egter belangrik om vas te stel of die portage van kano's op die oewer insidenteel is tot die reg om op die rivier te vaar. Ewewig moet bewerkstellig word tussen die botsende belange. Die Waterwet 54 van 1956 behoort gewysig en vereenvoudig te word, aangesien Suid-Afrika nie slegs op die RomeinsHollandse reg kan staatmaak nie - ons waterprobleme staan direk teenoor die van die Nederlande.
The private person has certain powers regarding the arrest and the use of force to effect the arrest of members of the public who have committed/are committing offences. These powers are derived from either common law or statutory law. In terms of the South African Criminal Procedure Act these powers are regulated by ss 42 and 49. Riparian owners are entitled to the undisturbed use and enjoyment of their property. On the other hand, canoeists are also entitled to practise on public rivers. It is important, however, to ascertain whether portage of canoes on the river bank is incidental to the right of canoeing on the river. A balance should be struck between these conflicting interests. The Water Act 54 of 1956 should be amended and simplified, since South Africa cannot rely on Roman Dutch law alone - our water problems are the complete opposite of those in the Netherlands.

49 813 sera from persons without clinical symptoms of infectious diseases were tested for IgG to the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 at the Center for Molecular Diagnostics (Central Research Institute of Epidemiology) from May 22 to August 28, 2020. The dynamics of the incidence of seropositive persons was assessed by decades. The maximum seroprevalence was noted at the end of May. Seroprevalence indicators changed slightly from June 21 to August 28 (maximum values, about 17%, were noted from July 1 to July 20), which was consistent with the slowdown in the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the Moscow region.

Inom ramen för IBTS genomförs trålundersökningar i Skagerrak och Kattegatt och på senare år även vissa områden i östra Nordsjön i kvartal 1 och 3. Under expeditionen utfördes totalt 49 giltiga tråldrag i det undersökta området, 26 i Skagerrak och 19 i Kattegatt samt fyra i Nordsjön. I totalfångsten ingick 61 olika fiskarter, bland annat 10,2 ton sill, 4,1 ton skarpsill, 3,8 ton kolja och 382 kg torsk, totalt 36,6 ton. Biologiska parametrar på individnivå samlas in på sill- och torskfiskar samt rödspätta och tunga. Totalt provtogs 3 883 individer från 11 olika arter med avseende på ålder och könsmognad. Både sill- och skarpsillfångsterna var större i år än föregående år, så också rekryteringen. Torskens 0-grupp i både Skagerrak och Kattegatt ökade kraftigt. Däremot är 2+-guppen av torsk (torsk över ca 37 cm) i stort sett frånvarande. Kolja visar en mycket stor 0-grupp i Skagerrak och 0-gruppen vitling i Kattegatt är avsevärt större än föregående år.

Mit Blick auf Deutschland steht außer Frage, dass die im bestehenden föderativen System enthaltene Garantie der kommunalen Selbstverwaltung ein hin-reichendes Maß an dezentraler Finanzautonomie voraussetzt. Die Bewältigung der den Kommunen im Rahmen der föderalen Zuständigkeitsverteilung zugewiesenen Aufgaben und das Tätigen der damit verbundenen Ausgaben sind ohne eine entsprechende Ausstattung mit Einnahmen, d.h. der Verfügbarkeit über angemessene finanzielle Mittel zur Aufgabenerfüllung, nicht möglich. Diese grundlegende Einsicht spiegelt sich bereits in Art. 28 Abs. 2 Grundgesetz (GG), wonach den Gemeinden und Gemeindeverbänden das Recht gewährleistet sein muss, „alle Angelegenheiten der örtlichen Gemeinschaft im Rahmen der Gesetze in eigener Verantwortung zu regeln“. Und weiter heißt es dort: „Die Gewährleistung der Selbstverwaltung umfasst auch die Grundlagen der finanziellen Eigenverantwortung“. Dieser im Rahmen der Grundgesetzanpassung von 1994 hinzugefügte Satz stellt nicht allein eine verfassungs-rechtliche Grundlage für die Zuweisung eigener Steuerhoheiten an die kommunale Ebene durch den Bundesgesetzgeber dar. Er ist zugleich auch die grundgesetzliche Basis einer garantierten (vertikalen) Zuweisung von finanziellen Mitteln eines jeweiligen Landes an seine Kommunen und bildet damit den rechtlichen Bezugspunkt für den auf Landesebene bestehenden kommunalen Finanzausgleich, dessen Durchführung in den jeweiligen Landesverfassungen – so auch in Rheinland-Pfalz in Art. 49 der Landesverfassung (LV) – geregelt ist.

Abstract:
The present study examines the relationships between structure (floristic composition, dendrometric parameters), diversity (diversity and evenness indexes) of urban forest park stands and the ecological (soil fertility, soil moisture), environmental factors (air pollution). The study is based on the forest park stands inventory data, performed from 2012 to 2017 in Kryvyi Rih City, Central Ukraine. The floristic compositions of the urban forest park stands are poor. There are only 23 species that belong to 14 families and 12 genera. More families were represented by at least more than 2% of taxon diversity. While Ulmaceae (2 genera, 4 species–17,39 %), Fabaceae (3 genera, 2 species–17,39 %), Aсеrасеае (1 genera, 4 species–17,39 %) were the most representative families. It was established that at forest park the values of stand density varied from 490 to 660 trees*ha-1, stem heights were from 26 to 31 m, stem diameters were from 13 to 17 cm, stand basal area were from 32 to 49 m2*ha-1, stand volume were from 200 to 415 m3*ha-1. the values of relative stem heights were from 0,63 to 0,82 m*year-1, relative stem diameters were from 0,31 to 0,43 cm*year-1, relative stand basal area were from 0,80 to 1,19 m2*ha-1*year-1, relative stand volume were from 5,45 to 10,28 m3*ha-1*year-1. The varied values of the forest park stands index (Shannon-Wiener diversity index from 0,75 to 1,61, Pielou‟s evenness index from 0,53 to 0,86, Simpson‟s diversity from 0,24 to 0,60, Margalef‟s diversity index from 0,87 to 6,97) indicate the ecological instability of these woody plant communities. Current state of the urban forest park stands determined by the combined influence of ecological (soil fertility, soil moisture) and environmental factors (air pollution).

This research project 1) evaluates the effect of road network, demographic, and land use characteristics on road crashes involving teen drivers, and, 2) develops and compares the predictability of local and global regression models in estimating teen crash frequency. The team considered data for 201 spatially distributed road segments in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA for the evaluation and obtained data related to teen crashes from the Highway Safety Information System (HSIS) database. The team extracted demographic and land use characteristics using two different buffer widths (0.25 miles and 0.5 miles) at each selected road segment, with the number of crashes on each road segment used as the dependent variable. The generalized linear models with negative binomial distribution (GLM-based NB model) as well as the geographically weighted negative binomial regression (GWNBR) and geographically weighted negative binomial regression model with global dispersion (GWNBRg) were developed and compared. This research relied on data for 147 geographically distributed road segments for modeling and data for 49 segments for validation. The annual average daily traffic (AADT), light commercial land use, light industrial land use, number of household units, and number of pupils enrolled in public or private high schools are significant explanatory variables influencing the teen crash frequency. Both methods have good predictive capabilities and can be used to estimate the teen crash frequency. However, the GWNBR and GWNBRg better capture the spatial dependency and spatial heterogeneity among road teen crashes and the associated risk factors.

Disbursements track the progress of projects in completing the products that ultimately will deliver the projects desired outcomes. Moreover, in a world with pressing needs for external financing, project disbursements are an important source of external liquidity for recipient countries. However, some projects start disbursing faster than others and at relatively larger amounts. Hence learning why some projects disburse faster than others is important to understand not only which projects are more likely to achieve development outcomes sooner, but also to assess their value as providers of external liquidity in times of distress. As it has become evident over the past year with the COVID-19 pandemic, multilateral lending has played a crucial role in helping emerging countries face the larger financing needs originated by the crisis. In 2020, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) disbursements increased 49% over 2019, reaching $13.4 billion, more than doubling the baseline disbursement projection. This paper assesses which observable characteristics of investment loans offered by the IDB are associated with faster disbursements. The results indicate substantial heterogeneity across countries, sectors, and loan modalities. All else constant, results-based loans and loans in the social sector are more likely to disburse within 2 years after being approved. Projects in countries where it takes longer to meet at least some of the clauses to start disbursing are less likely to start disbursing 2 years after approval. Projects that are expected to have longer execution times disburse at slower speeds within 24 months after approval. Overall, country factors seem to play a more relevant role than sectorial factors in explaining the probability that a project will disburse funds quickly. These and other findings in the paper can inform future programming exercises and help optimize the disbursement processes.
