Abstract:
Background: The global incidence of cancer is rising, especially in low and middle income countries. Radiotherapy is important in cancer treatment of curative and palliative care, either alone or in combination with other treatment modalities. However radiotherapy techniques have evolved from two dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). In addition, this new image-based treatment planning reduces the volume of surrounding normal tissues to be irradiated unnecessarily and being exposed to high dose of radiation. Thus improves treatment outcome while reducing treatment related toxicities. Aim: To train and gain skills in radiotherapy planning and treatment with modern radiation 3D-CRT technology in Ghana. Methods: Hospital based cross sectional study will be conducted at the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre in Ghana and the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI), in Tanzania. We will recruit patients with a convenient sample size, from different cancer diagnosis and stages after obtaining their signed consents. The outcome from 2D and 3D planning and treatment techniques will be compared. We will use pretreatment CT scan images to assess tumor size prior to treatment and posttreatment CT scan images to assess treatment response. Furthermore, the WHO toxicity grading criteria will be used to assess early treatment related side effects between 2D and 3D treatment techniques. Results: I have not yet been on the fellowship program, I will go to Ghana on 1st May 2018 and am expecting to finish my fellowship at the end of May 2018. I will have a final report concerning my fellowship project by August 2018, hence I will present the results of my visit to the World Cancer Congress in October 2018. I will also share my skills and knowledge obtained during my fellowship program in Ghana to my home institution and other cancer care hospitals in Tanzania through regular conference meetings, Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions and during my daily clinical practice while supervising postgraduate students pursuing masters of medicine in clinical oncology. After data analysis, I expect my results will show better treatment outcome with minimal early treatment side effects in 3D than 2D radiotherapy planning and treatment techniques. Conclusion: This training will significantly improve patient's treatment outcomes, care and quality of life due to minimum tissue damage after 3D conformal radiotherapy with intensity modulated radiation.

Abstract:
Following completion of the 1st Workshop of Digital Documentation of Monuments Using 3d Laser Scanner organized by the Laboratory of Architectural Theory of Forms and Preservation Studies, Faculty of Architecture, DUTh, the present study was undertaken mainly to focus on the application of advanced techniques, such as the 3d laser scanner, for the geometric documentation of the mining complex at the town of Limenaria of the island of Thassos, an abandoned and discredited monument for almost half a century. The key purpose of the laboratory work was the instruction of new technologies in surveying and documentation and their contribution to preservation, protection and restoration of monuments. The Field of practice was the former Speidel headquarters, known as "Palataki", and the abandoned mining complex at Limenaria, a unique example of industrial heritage at risk. The main objective of the laboratory was the documentation and the recording of this monument in order to protect it and highlight its historical value and cultural significance to the public.

Abstract:
The truss system is the most efficient and widely used structural system used by structural engineers to span long distances and to provide beautiful shape forms in external building façades. This system can be used as support system for floors, roofs and bridges. The truss system is general classified as 2D or 3D structural system. While the 2D truss system has the capacity to span up to 40m (clear span), its 3D counterpart can span up to 90m (clear span) if supports are properly placed around it. The stiffness method of analysis is one of the 2 methods used for structural analysis of plane truss system by matrix methodology. Its other counterpart is named the flexibility or force method. The stiffness method is also referred to as Matrix Displacement Method in many literatures. MATLAB is a programming and numerical computing software used by scientists and engineering professionals all over the world to analyze data, develop algorithms and create models. MATLAB lends itself to structural matrix method of analysis because of its extraordinary numerical computing power using matrix. This paper aims to analyze a simple 2D truss system with six structural members using MATLAB software for calculation of the member axial deflections and internal axial member force values. An algorithm is developed to write the MATLAB code to solve this problem and each section of the MATLAB code is explained in this paper. The paper also aims to provide 1st principle derivation for general stiffness matrix method of 2D plane truss structural system. A popular computer software called staad.pro is used to check the validity of the numerical results from MATLAB.

Abstract:
Archaeological cultural heritage is a precious resource that should be transmitted to future generations. The 3D digital representation of monuments and sites has proven to be a reliable method for this aim. This article shows the geomatics workflow undertaken for the complex rock art documentation of the Cova dels Cavalls (Tírig, Castellón). The paintings are part of the Rock art of the Mediterranean Basin of the Iberian Peninsula declared a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 1998. The various stages are reviewed, from the acquisition phase up to the delivery of part of the derived metric products, such as 3D models and photorealistic models.http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIGeo2017.2017.6627

Abstract:
Cranial deformation affects a large number of infants. The methodologies commonly employed to measure the deformation include, among others, calliper measurements and visual assessment for mild cases and radiological imaging for severe cases, where surgical intervention is considered. Visual assessment and calliper measurements usually lack the required level of accuracy to evaluate the deformation. Radiological imaging, including Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), are costly and highly invasive. The use of smartphones to record videos that can be used for three-dimensional (3D) modelling of the head has emerged as a low-cost, non-invasive methodology to extract 3D information of the patient. To be able to analyse the deformation, a novel technique is employed: the obtained model is compared with an ideal head. In this study we have tested the repeatability of the process. For this purpose, several models of two patients have been obtained and the differences between them are evaluated. The results show that the differences in the ellipsoid semiaxis for the same patient are usually below 4 mm, although they increase up to 6.4 mm in some cases. The variability in the distances to the ideal head, which are the values used to evaluate deformity, reaches a maximum value of 2.7 mm. The errors obtained are comparable to those of classical measurement techniques and show the potential of the methodology in development.http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIGeo2017.2017.6604

Abstract:
We present a case study on digitalization of Southern Rock Art (“Arte Sureño”) in a prehistoric rock shelter from Los Barrios, Cádiz (southern Iberian Peninsula); there we use SfM techniques to obtain some digital products for both analytic and divulgation goals. This way, we highlight some opportunities that low-cost devices (e.g. no-professional digital camera) and open software have introduced in archaeology today. We made it to converge in a working process to register and manage rock art expressions and their immediate surroundings (i.e. natural stone blocks, walls, niches…). From this action, we not only support our work in digital 3D about multiple and varied entities that make up the scenario and neighbour context of rock art through the use of multiple low cost / free resources, but also, we intend to adjust all this operative for the processes of investigation, protection and diffusion on the varied cases that make up this unique singular artistic heritage.http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIGeo2017.2017.6658
