Full textSocialization, the process by which people learn the norms and values of the society in which they are to live, begins well before they can read. Yet books have an important part to play in the process, because they enable children to consider situations of a more varied kind than those they have actually experienced. What is the influence of books on eight to twelve year old children in britain in the early 80's, what vision of society do the most popular books convey, with special regard to the fundamental issues linked to race, sex, and social class, such are the questions to be considered. The first half of the thesis is based on the results of a survey which was carried on a representative sample of the population in the 70's. They show that the relationship of children with books varies enormously between individuals, but also stresses the role of such factors as sex and social class. They emphasize the unique popularity of enid blyton. Her school-stories, a limited yet significant sample of the writings of this highly controversial author are subsequently analyzed. They show her to be extremely conservative in her views on education and society, which convey the idea that conformity per se is highly desirable. The second half relies on the case studies of 120 children, who were given a written questionnaire followed by individual, non-directive interviews. The results largely corroborate those of the national survey. They point to two other popular authors: roald dahl and c. S. Lewis. The former's charlie and the chocolate factory and the latter's the lion, the witch and the wardrobe reveal that their authors, like blyton, are often content with worn out stereotypes when dealing with the notions of race, sex and social class. The simplistic vision of society they offer, both on the moral and social levels, is based on over-simplifications and categorizations. The books british children read in the early eighties thus largely ignore the evolution of british society, even the changes that had already taken place by the time they were published, and seem unlikely to play a positive part and contribute to further progress

Full textTeatro Abierto first appeared in 1981 in Buenos Aires during the "Process of national reorganization" (1976-1983), one of the most tragic dictatorship Argentina ever endured. It was a theatrical phenomenon meant to reaffirm the existence of Argentine theatre though being the victim of censorship. However, as the performances went on, and thanks to public support, it eventually became a political movement opposed to the regime. The success of this venture would incite the artist to repeat the experience. More than ninety plays, performed during four seasons, were indeed proposed to the porteños spectators. What means did the plays use to denounce some of the reality of the time ? The analysis of the movement and of the plays performed between 1981 an 1983 shows that while Teatro Abierto was first and foremost considered as a political phenomenon, not only by the critics but also by the artists themselves, it was also at the root of important actworks in the argentine theatrical scene

Full textWho is writing to protestant religious broadcasters in france? why? what is the secret of broadcasts which receive an important number of letters ? these are the three questions which were at the origin of this study. Five protestant broadcasts have been chosen and 4000 letters received between october 1981 and december 1982 have been analysed. Apart from the construction of a typical profile of the correspondent, the expression of their motivations and the evaluation of the communication, this study has revealed four factors which play an essential role for the quantity of letters. It allowed to mesure the competition between the official protestants and independant evangelical protestants. Latters ones manifested a very high vitality. The study ends with a reflection about the future of protestantism on radio and television. A reflection which can be expressed in these words: "which kind of protestantism will be on the wires tomorrow?

This paper deals with the submarine violations that occurred in and around Hårsfjärden in October 1982. The purpose of this paper has been to study the change in the public image. The author has analyzed Hårsfjärden on four dimensions of comparison. Motives for the violations, nationality, The nature of the violations and technical indications and observations. The Submarine Defence Commission could identify the Soviet Union as the offensive power in 1983. They said however that the reasons behind violations were preparatory stages of a military operational planning. The author has with this paper demonstrated how the public image has changed from 1983 to 2001. The author's focus and the core of this essay have been to study the three SOU with treated submarine violations. Bottom traces found in Hårsfjärden has emerged as the clearest evidence that foreign submarines had been in the area. The offensive submarine appeared in a provocative way, which meant that they allowed themselves not to be rejected. Instead they pushed deeper into the Swedish inshore waters. By the island Mälsten, the Swedish Navy October 12, 1982 made a tape recording that was said to be a Soviet submarine of the Whiskey-class. The same type that ran aground in Gåsefjärden a year earlier. The tape recording came to be the Swedish side main evidence that a Soviet submarine was in Swedish waters in the submarine talks in Moscow from 1992 to 1994. But Russia refused to recognize. They argued strongly that it wasn’t a Soviet submarine that the Swedish Navy had recorded.

"Le thème des minorités et le clivage périphérique et linguistique dans les quatre résolutions que les membres du Parlement européen ont adoptées le 16 octobre 1981, le 11 février 1983, le 30 octobre 1987 et le 9 février 1994." Full textThe peripheral and linguistic alignment theorised by stein rokkan covers the theme of the minorities that the european members of parliament have annouced in the resolutions of 16 october 1981, 11 february 1983, 30 october 1987 and 9 february 1994. It has been necessary to move the question of the minorities from the legal to the public area because of the validation of the hypotheses. This field of enquiry has been borrowed from jurgen habermas. The european parliament has been recognised as the institutionalized political public sphere of the european communities. Two perspectives have appeared : one is the discursive process of public communication, the other public mobilization. The first one lead to an analysis of the content of the resolutions taken as the product of a discursive process of public communication. The vocabulary used for the designation of the idea of "minority" has been recorded. A semantic slide has been observed : the initial documents dealt with "ethnic, regional, cultural and linguistic minorities" and the last one dealt with "lesser used language groups". The expression "lesser used language groups" has appeared as the most accuate subject of the documents. This expression has become associated with the concept of "peripheral language", as defined by stein rokkan and derek urwin, which covers the same realities. The observation has been confirmed by the fact that the dispositions of the resolutions correcting the inequalities of the languages in minority express peripheral demands. As a result, it was possible to study the involvement of the representatives of the defence of peripheral movements as public mobilization. A statistical analysis based on the criteria of nationality, political parties and political groups confirmed the presence of linguistic and peripheral aligment
Le, Caïnec Yola. "Le féminin dans le cinéma de Georges Cukor de 1950 à 1981." Thesis, Paris 3, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA030178/document.
Full textIn the early fifties, Cukor's work challenges his own reputation as a director of sophisticated women films — a reputation he had acquired during the thirties, culminating with Women in 1939. His films increasingly center on presenting the feminine during post-war years. In 1950, Cukor directs a romantic social comedy, Born Yesterday and a social drama A Life of Her Own : both narrate a female destiny and link up drama and the feminine in a positive manner. In these films, women are taking responsibility for the action and articulate the motivations for their liberation, for example through solidarity. The turn from the fifties to the sixties confirms that the feminine, seen here as a confused gender (Judith Butler) and Cukor's cinema interact in a modern way creating a liberating distance his seventies film and up to the filmmaker's last film, Rich and Famous (1981). Some imaginary and nearly experimental new cinematic forms (Gaston Bachelard), notably in terms of mise-en-scène and acting, turn out to be particularly representative of Cukor's work. As opposed to comedies that purport to emancipate women from their destiny by upsetting social and behavioral attitudes, Cukor’s female centered drama films show emancipation through the emergence of female characters who take their life into their hands. Hence a false paradox: Cukor may develop commonplace characters, yet the complexity of his actresses’ direction puts their talent to the test and questions a certain representation of women's position in society

Full textI study how memories are produced and forgotten in argentine society by examining the relative success of the theatrical productions of two groups, Teatro Abierto, at the end of the 1 970s, and Teatroxlaidentidad, at the start of the twenty -first century, both of which participated in collective actions portraying the military government (1976-1983) as responsible for the dismemberment of that which the state had previously re-invented, the nation. My research is based on the study of the intentions behind the artists' production of cultural objects in accordance with their interests and objectives, their social position as intellectuals, and their valuations, categorizations, and judgments, all of which limit and influence those cultural objects (on one hand, the bonds of national belonging that have always been a constant source of dispute in Argentina, and on the other rand, certain cultural objects central in literature and theatre and which were colonized by the republican elites in the earl y days of the formation of nation-states in latin america in service of the initial construction of nationhood), in hopes of persuading the greatest possible number of spectators that a rupture of social normalcy had occurred

Full textSince 1952 the Parti socialiste (PS) has been exerting an electoral hegemony over the Senegalese polity. The overall economic climate in the one hand, political issues created by Ousmane Tanor Dieng's contested legitimacy at the head of the PS, in the other, account for Abdou Diouf's electoral defeat in 19 March 2000 as well as his party's in 29 April 2001. This doctoral thesis analyses and interprets the critical and protean trajectory wich "works on" Haalpulaar en voters mind from 1983 to 2001 in Fouta-Tooro. In the light of three fundamental social logics - distributive stratification of power, gift and counter-gift, the tooroodo monopoly on modern political legitimacy - , the author questions the state crisis and its corollary : the destabilization of routine regulations, to explain how the changeover of political power between parties became feasible via free and fair elections
