Abstract:
Stephen L. Wood re-defined Platypus such that its members are native to realms outside of the Americas and transferred most Neotropical species out of that genus. I have come across 44 species that still remain, though, and these are treated here. In total, I report 49 new generic assignments, 30 of which are transfers out of Platypus. I propose 22 new synonymies, eight of which are Platypus species that are synonymized with previously transferred species. Six Neotropical species are left in Platypus, for reasons detailed in the text. These taxonomic acts affect the compositions of eight of the 11 Neotropical genera of core Platypodinae. The following species are transferred from Platypus Herbst, 1793: Cenocephalus dubiosus (Schedl, 1933) comb. nov., Cenocephalus neotruncatus (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov.; Costaroplatus barbosai (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov., Costaroplatus devius (Schedl, 1976) comb. nov., Costaroplatus mixtus (Schedl, 1976) comb. nov., Costaroplatus roppai (Schedl, 1978) comb. nov.; Epiplatypus bicaudatulus (Schedl, 1935) comb. nov., Epiplatypus carduus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov., Epiplatypus complanus (Schedl, 1967) comb. nov., Epiplatypus grandiporus (Schedl, 1961) comb. nov., Epiplatypus insculptus (Schedl, 1967) comb. nov., Epiplatypus macroporus (Chapuis, 1865) comb. nov., Epiplatypus perforans (Schedl, 1961) comb. nov., Epiplatypus propinquus (Schedl, 1959) comb. nov., Epiplatypus quadrispinatus (Chapuis, 1865) comb. nov., Epiplatypus sallei (Chapuis, 1865) comb. nov., Epiplatypus sequius (Schedl, 1935) comb. nov.; Euplatypus detectus (Schedl, 1976) comb. nov., Euplatypus erraticus (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov., Euplatypus longulus (Chapuis, 1865) comb. nov., Euplatypus perplexus Bright, 1972 comb. nov., Euplatypus rugosifrons (Schedl, 1933) comb. nov., Euplatypus vexans (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov.; Megaplatypus asperatus (Schedl, 1976) comb. nov., Megaplatypus carinifer (Schedl, 1970), Megaplatypus durus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov., Megaplatypus eversus (Wood, 1971) comb. nov., Megaplatypus gagates (Schedl, 1976) comb. nov., Megaplatypus irrepertus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov., Megaplatypus lineaticornis (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov., Megaplatypus paramonovi (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov., Megaplatypus schedli (Wood, 1966) comb. nov., Megaplatypus vafer (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov.; Teloplatypus caligatus (Schedl, 1972) comb. nov. Costaroplatus bidens (Schedl, 1970) comb. nov. and Costaroplatus darlingtoni (Reichardt, 1965) comb. nov. are transferred from Megaplatypus Wood, 1993. Costaroplatus vonfaberi (Reichardt, 1962) comb. nov. is transferred from Platyphysus Wood, 1993. Epiplatypus striatus (Chapuis, 1865) comb. nov., Megaplatypus contextus (Schedl, 1963) comb. nov., Megaplatypus decorus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov. and Megaplatypus dignatus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov. are removed from Euplatypus Wood, 1993. Epiplatypus ornatus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov. is transferred from Teloplatypus Wood, 1993. Euplatypus jamaicensis Bright, 1972 comb. nov., Megaplatypus discolor (Blandford, 1896) comb. nov., Teloplatypus brasiliensis (Nunberg, 1959) comb. nov., Teloplatypus nudus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov. and Teloplatypus pernudus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov. are transferred from Epiplatypus Wood, 1993. Costaroplatus ornatus (Schedl, 1936) comb. nov., is transferred from Cenocephalus Chapuis, 1865. Megaplatypus acutidens (Blandford, 1895) comb. nov. and Megaplatypus despectus (Schedl, 1971) comb. nov. are transferred from Tesserocerus Saunders, 1837. New synonymies are proposed as follows: Cenocephalus rugicollis Schedl, 1952 (= Cenocephalus epistomalis Wood, 1966 syn. nov.); Tesserocerus forcipatus Schedl, 1972 (= Platypus aplanatus Schedl, 1976 syn. nov.); Tesserocerus retusus Guérin-Méneville, 1838 (= Tesserocerus guerini ssp. montanus Schedl, 1960 syn. nov.); Tesserocerus simulatus Schedl, 1936 (= Platypus bilobus Schedl, 1961 syn. nov.); Tesserocerus spinax Blandford, 1896 (= Tesserocephalus forficula Schedl, 1936 syn. nov.); Costaroplatus carinulatus (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus umbrosus Schedl, 1936 syn. nov.); Costaroplatus shenefelti Nunberg (1963) (= Platypus abditulus Wood, 1966 syn. nov.); Costaroplatus vonfaberi (Reichardt, 1962) (= Platypus convexus Schedl, 1972 syn. nov.); Epiplatypus sallei (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus quadricaudatulus Schedl, 1934 syn. nov. and = Platypus filaris Wood, 1971 syn. nov.); Euplatypus longulus (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus dimidiatus Chapuis, 1865 syn. nov. = Platypus mulsanti Chapuis, 1865 syn. nov. and = Platypus pseudolongulus Schedl, 1963 syn. nov. ); Megaplatypus acutidens (Blandford, 1895) (= Tesserocerus alternantes Schedl, 1977 syn. nov.); Megaplatypus durus (Schedl, 1936) (= Platypus arcuatus Schedl, 1976 syn. nov.); Megaplatypus fuscus (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus marginatus Chapuis, 1865 syn. nov., = Platypus granarius Schedl, 1952 syn. nov., and = Platypus obsitus Schedl, 1976 syn. nov.); Megaplatypus irrepertus (Schedl, 1936) (= Platypus sulcipennis Schedl, 1976 syn. nov.); Neotrachyostus abbreviatus (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus concavus Chapuis, 1865 syn. nov.); Teloplatypus enixus (Schedl, 1936) (= Platypus interponens Schedl, 1978 syn. nov.); Teloplatypus ratzeburgi (Chapuis, 1865) (= Platypus pallidipennis Blandford, 1896 syn. nov.). Platypus simpliciformis Wood, 1966 had been transferred by Wood (1993) to both Megaplatypus and Euplatypus by mistake; I propose keeping it in Megaplatypus. Six Neotropical species are left in the genus Platypus with the status incertae sedis: Platypus armatus Chapuis, 1865; Platypus dorsalis Schedl, 1972; Playpus quadrilobus Blandford, 1895; Platypus squamifer Schedl, 1963; Platypus subaequalispinosus Schedl, 1936; and Platypus trispinosus Chapuis, 1965. These taxonomic changes prepare the foundations for future revisionary work on the American Platypodinae.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the present dissertation, we study the United States’ domestic trade and domesticmigration with special focus on Politics, Foreign Import and Size. This study sheds light on the literature of International Economics, Regional Economics, and Development Economics. In Chapter 1, using a Gravity model for trade between the U.S. states and employing CFS data of the year 1993 - 2017, we find that politically and economically similar states trade more among themselves. We use three different definitions of political similarity based on election outcomes, and they all give similar results. For economic similarities, we follow the literature on Linder’s hypothesis. In Chapter 2, by using the same CFS data and Gravity model which we have used in Chapter 1, we analyze the impact of foreign imports by the States on their domestic exports. We find fairly strong support for our hypothesis that foreign imports promote domestic exports. We carry out a series of robustness checks, and the qualitative results remain the same. Chapter 3 investigates the impact of size on the U.S. inter-state migration over the period of 1998-2017 employing structural gravity model of migration. We use population, GDP and Land area as a proxy to measure the size of the states. We find that people are moving from big states to small states. We find that the American’s are moving from big states to small states. We also find that increase in income tax as a proportion of population in U.S. states, positively affect the interstate migration in the origin state but negatively affect the destination state.

Abstract:
CAPES
This work presents an analysis of articles published by brazilian thinker Maria Lacerda de Moura in the spanish journal Estudios (1930-1936). In these articles we identified elements for the creation of a libertarian unicist philosophy of nature, hence our goal to understand the purpose of this author beyond their critical contributions to the relationship established between nature and humanity in the industrial bourgeois society. The press was a privileged instrument in the late nineteenth century to the organization of the anarchist movement and diffusion of knowledge and countercultural ideals and values of the dominant ideology. Aimed at social transformation, editorials with anarchist bias emerged, attentive to the scientific discoveries of the time and bringing critical elements to the existing society. In addition to the dissemination of knowledge, libertarians also questioned the role of class and they gave their own meanings to scientific knowledge and concepts in order to turn them into an instrument for revolutionary change. In this sense, we identify in articles published in the journal Estudios, linked to the field of spanish anarcho-individualism, the construction of various philosophies of nature with a view to libertarian society. In this period of strengthening of global nation-states after the First World War and the rise of totalitarian states, militants and anarchist thinkers questioned the technological progress, democracy and the institutions of bourgeois society. In this perspective, they constituted different views of nature which opposed the one defended by the ruling class, based on a normalizing scientific knowledge and a society of control. Libertarian critique of authoritarian policies exercised by fascist governments was based on critical and emancipatory reinterpretations of scientific topics as diverse as eugenics, neomalthusianism, naturism, sex education, vegetarianism, the "proteanismo", the "plasmogenia", allies to combat anti-clerical and radical pacifism. From the articles published by the Brazilian Maria Laceda de Moura. in this journal between the years 1930 and 1936, we will seek to demonstrate the constitution of knowledges and a "radical science," critique of current society and toward the construction of a new ethics, of a new harmonious society through cooperation, education, empowerment, technological advances and direct democratic participation. In Estudios magazine, Maria Lacerda de Moura built Ibero- American bridges in order to combat enemies in common and disable any mechanisms of domination. In this way, from local and daily resistance, the construction of a unicist philosophy of nature is evident.

Abstract:
The corpus of Manuel Alegre's literary works (which was published between 1960 and 1993 and includes poetry texts, a romance and a book of short stories) is made up of about 140 000 tokens. After disambiguation, this corpus has been gr ammatically coded and subjected to several statistical calculations. The first graphs for lexical connexion reveal a chronological evolution, although frequency measures prove that some the mes are common to both genres. Most frequent word forms, in poetry, also show an evolution in the theme's development, which is confirmed by the value of z-scores and chronological correlation. Grammatical coding, on the other hand - through the measure of x2 distance, made by means of the tree model - allows a morphosyntactical structure characterization of both genres and reveals a transformation of these structures inside yhe poetry sub-corpus, where two phases clearly stand out. These measures applied to lexical connexion data, also demonstrate the affinities between the vocabulary of prose and the vocabulary of some poetic texts with historical themes. Comparison with other corpora points to the lexical specificities which make manuel alegre a particular writer : his literary, historical and geographic references but, most of all, a surplus of negative forms. Concordance observations of negative grammatical forms allow a better observation of the writer's evolution in his perception of existence : the refusal of an inacceptable social reality, the awareness of an impossible hold over time, as well as the revolt against man's inability to find responses, give us the image of a man who will for evr resist

Although adolescent fertility rates are decreasing worldwide, adolescent childbearing keeps its visibility as a social phenomenon that needs special attention by policy makers and researchers. Many studies suggest that being a teenage mother have deleterious effects for her own health and her child s health during the first years of life. Other authors point out that teenage childbearing also had long-term consequences; however, the literature in this regard is limited, particularly in low and middle income countries. The 1982, 1993 and 2004 Pelotas birth cohorts provided a valuable opportunity to study the short and long-term consequences of adolescent childbearing on several offspring outcomes relate to health, behavior, education and employment. The hypothesis of an increased risk of death during the fetal, perinatal, neonatal, post-neonatal and infant periods among offspring of adolescent mothers was tested in all three cohorts. Additionally, we tested hypotheses regarding the long-term consequences on offspring, including health-related behaviors, sexual activity, education and employment in adolescents and young adults. Our results showed a greater likelihood of post-neonatal mortality among offspring of adolescent mothers after adjustment for confounders. However, this effect disappeared after controlling for factors such as weight gain during pregnancy and antenatal care. Moreover, children of teenage mothers were more likely to initiate sexual intercourse before age 16, to be themselves teenage parents, and to begin family formation earlier. On balance, the results from both Pelotas cohort studies and a systematic review of the literature suggest that pre-gestational socioeconomic and family characteristics explained most of the adverse events observed in children. Therefore, programs for prevention of adolescent childbearing should target to change the circumstances surrounding teenage mothers, such as low education and poverty, because these remain the most important predictors of the disadvantage conditions of their offspring in relation to health and socioeconomic characteristics.

Abstract:
This dissertation aims to present a history of the literary genre of the dream narrative, as it unfolded within French writing throughout the 20th century. The first part of the dissertation is dedicated to epistemology. It shows that in France theories of dreaming influenced literary theory, and vice versa, from the 1920s onwards. We first shed light on that dialectics by analysing the attitude of writers as self-proclaimed dream specialists, as compared with scientists. In doing so, we show the epistemic limitations of these accounts of dreams, as they struggle to qualify as scientific documents. We also delineate the ways in which writers try to assert their legitimacy in the face of scientific and psychoanalytic discourses. Finally, we suggest that literature does contribute to our understanding of dreams by proposing its own singular, specific approach to them. And in return, we show how writers focusing on dreams are led to conceive of their own art in a new way.The second part of the dissertation tackles the aesthetics of dream narratives. It highlights the wide variety of these texts, from surrealistic recollections of dreams by André Breton, Paul Eluard or Robert Desnos, to contemporary fictional short stories by Marcel Béalu or Frédérick Tristan. Conflicted definitions of dream narratives emphasise the non literariness of the genre while others point to its poetic and literary quality. It then focuses on Michel Leiris’s work and the formalistic approach developed by Georges Perec and Raymond Queneau in the 1960s ans 1970s, and eventually identifies Jean Paulhan’s new manner of narrating dreams, which inspired Henri Michaux, Marcel Béalu and Frédérick Tristan. These later texts are not only inspired by true dreams but let us read as if they were.Overall, the thesis emphasises the social and artistic function of the dream, which we apprehend as a means of understanding the enigmatic state of consciousness that is sleep

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract The study of old-growth forests has long been a fascination of plant ecologists. In all likelihood this was an outgrowth of the Clementsian view of succession (Clements 1936; Weaver and Clements 1938) in which communities were perceived to change in an orderly and predictable way and culminate in a terminal climax community (chapter 10, this volume). Throughout much of eastern North America, old-growth forests were the epitome of the climax community (Braun 1950; Whitney 1987). Old-growth forests have been of continued interest in the study of plant ecology in large part because they are generally free of the myriad of disturbances caused by humans, thereby allowing the study of natural processes. This unique quality has generated an enormous research database on many aspects of eastern old-growth forests (Nowacki and Trianosky 1993). Due to the massive disturbances associated with European settlement, the landscape in eastern North America underwent enormous change (M. Williams 1989; Whitney 1994; Irland 1999). Lumbering, agriculture, grazing, and anthropogenic wildfires all altered the landscape such that now most deciduous old-growth forest exists only as small relicts. More recently, some have argued that no forest in eastern North America is free of anthropogenic disturbance (direct or indirect).

Abstract:
Kilwa Kisiwani is an iconic Swahili stone town, its status and international renown exceeding any other. As discussed, it is also the town that has seen some of the largest-scale archaeological work, recovering a material record that bespeaks a thriving urban setting. Archaeological interest came on the heels of historical scholarship relating to the area; Kilwa is one of the few Swahili towns mentioned by both indigenous and foreign histories. The various versions of the Kilwa Chronicle give an account of the dynastic succession of Kilwa and of the deeds of its various sultans; together they are the earliest indigenous history of the coast. The oldest version was transcribed from oral form by João de Barros in his 1552 Da Asia (Freeman-Grenville 1962a: 89–93), while two other versions were both copied down in the nineteenth century (Strong 1895; Velten 1903). The Chronicles are similar in many aspects, although they differ on details and on the names of certain sultans. Debate over their veracity was quieted by the recovery of thousands of locally minted coins, and the dynastic lists were used as the basis for their interpretation (Album 1999; Brown 1991, 1992, 1993; Chittick 1965, 1967, 1973; Mitchell 1970; Walker 1936, 1939; Walker and Freeman-Grenville 1956). Indeed, the chronology of the Kilwa sultanate has been determined in the interplay between historical and numismatic evidence, the latter seen to act as an independent check on the less-reliable oral histories (cf. Fleisher and Wynne-Jones 2010b). This local historical record is bolstered by occasional mention in travellers’ accounts of the region. These are testament to Kilwa’s growing renown, but rarely offer much detail. In 1222, the Arab geographer Yakut referred to this ‘town in the country of the Zanj’ in his Geography and in 1331 an extended account was provided by Ibn Battuta during his travels on the coast (Freeman-Grenville 1962a: 27–32). These accounts echo a theme evident in the Kilwa Chronicles themselves: a distinction made between this town on its island, and the African continent that sits at its back.

For several reasons, I have avoided interpreta-orderly control over that reign; and viii for regenera-tion as much as possible. First, limitations of space tion and resurrection; see I viii Arg. 1–2n, Bieman do not give me any choice. Second, I agree with 1988:233–38, and headnote to VII viii. Abstract:
The evolution of legislative thought, the study of the stages of development of the USSR, and later Russia, is impossible without knowing the stages of evolution of legislative thought in the past. It is necessary to understand what tremendous work was done to create and adopt the Constitution of 1993. The purpose of this article was to highlight the common features and differences between the norms of the Constitution of the USSR in 1936 and the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 1993.
