Abstract:

Although mesothelioma rates have been rising worldwide, little is known about mesothelioma trends in Alberta. This population-based descriptive study used Alberta Cancer Board Registry data from 1980 to 2004 to develop an age-period–cohort model of male pleural mesothelioma incidence rates over time. Both age and cohort effects are associated with incidence rates. The highest-risk cohort comprised men born between 1930 and 1939, reflecting widespread asbestos use and exposure beginning in the 1940s in Canada. We predict that 1393 Albertan men 40 years and older will die of pleural mesothelioma between 1980 and 2024; 783 (56.2%) of these deaths will occur between 2010 and 2024. The total number of mesothelioma deaths in Alberta will be higher when all age groups, both sexes, and all disease sites are included, with numbers likely peaking sometime between 2015 and 2019. In addition to the ongoing efforts that focus on eliminating asbestos-related disease in Alberta, the challenge is to implement surveillance systems to prevent future epidemics of preventable occupational cancers in Alberta.

Abstract:

Les taux de mésothéliome sont à la hausse à l’échelle mondiale, mais les tendances en Alberta sont encore peu connues. Les auteurs de la présente étude descriptive basée sur une population se sont servis des données de 1980 à 2004 du registre de l’Alberta Cancer Board afin d’élaborer un modèle âge-période-cohorte de l’évolution dans le temps de l’incidence du mésothéliome pleural chez les hommes. Les taux d’incidence sont influencés à la fois par l’âge et par la cohorte. La cohorte des hommes nés entre 1930 et 1939 présente le risque le plus élevé, ce qui coïncide avec une utilisation répandue de l’amiante, et donc une exposition importante, à partir des années 1940 au Canada. Nous prévoyons qu’entre 1980 et 2024, 1 393 hommes albertains de 40 ans et plus mourront d’un mésothéliome pleural, dont 783 (56,2 %) entre 2010 et 2024. Une fois tous les groupes d’âge, les deux sexes et les divers sièges de la maladie pris en compte, le nombre total de décès en Alberta causés par un mésothéliome sera plus grand. Il atteindra sûrement un pic entre 2015 et 2019. En plus des efforts constants axés sur l’élimination des maladies liées à l’amiante en Alberta, l’enjeu majeur est la mise en place de systèmes de surveillance pour la prévention d’épidémies de cancers professionnels évitables en Alberta.

Abstract:

The article commemorates two significant events marking the 80th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2024: the passing of His Holiness Patriarch Sergius and the establishment of the first theological schools in Moscow during the Soviet era. The question of establishing theological schools was raised by Patriarch Sergius following the Council of Bishops in 1943 and his subsequent election as patriarch. These schools were inaugurated just a month after his passing. It’s emphasized that the swift preparation for the opening of the Theological Institute and Theological and Pastoral courses was facilitated by the quarter-century journey of the patriarch’s long-time faithful colleague, Archpriest Nikolay Chukov (Archbishop Gregory of Saratov and Stalingrad), who authored the project for spiritual educational institutions of the Moscow Patriarchate. He had substantial experience in establishing and overseeing higher theological institutions in Petrograd-Leningrad from 1920 to 1925. For the first time, a diary detailing the activities of Archpriest Nikolay Chukov is published in the appendix. His endeavors, undertaken with the support of Metropolitan Sergius and the Synod from 1928 to 1930, aimed to establish a Theological Institute in Leningrad. Unfortunately, his plans were thwarted by his arrest in 1930. The entries in the published diary confirm Olga Vasilyeva’s assertion that Metropolitan Sergius’ interview, which sparked widespread protests due to its denial of Church persecution in the USSR, was a quid pro quo for allowing him to submit a memo to Pyotr Smidovich. One of the memo’s points emphasized the necessity of opening a theological school. This memo played a pivotal role in obtaining permission, which, in turn, significantly hastened the process of opening theological schools in Moscow in 1943–1944. The article concludes with excerpts from books and articles by a professor from the Department of Church History at Saint Petersburg Theological Academy. This academic offers a negative and ironic assessment of both the ascetic work of Metropolitan Gregory of Leningrad and Novgorod, and the martyrdom of Patriarch Sergius, who endured humiliation primarily to preserve a legalized church organization, which was essential for the establishment of theological schools within the Patriarchate. This aspect became particularly significant when considering the pivotal choice by the authorities between the patriarchal Church and the Renovationists in 1943.

Jan Czarnecki, in 1961, an award to young doctors for the best work, and in 1972, a two-month scholarship for training in one of the socialist countries.Objective: The aim of the study was to present the genesis of the establishment of the scientific award named after prof. Jan MiodońskiDescription: In 1964, there was an initiative to create a research scholarship (original name) named after prof. J. Miodoński. After the death of prof. J. Miodoński at the request of prof. J. Iwaszkiewicz, it was decided that the Society would build a tombstone for the deceased professor, and the money remaining after paying for the construction of the tombstone would be allocated to scientific scholarships. In accordance with the resolution of the Main Board, on January 21, 1967, the first prizes were awarded named after prof. J. MiodońskiConclusion: Only a few medical societies can boast of such a long-standing and prestigious award. Receiving the award prof. Jan Miodoński is a great distinction for a young scientist.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. KRAS is the most frequent mutated driver gen in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). KRASG12C inhibitors (G12Ci) have revealed promising results in the clinic, having being approved two G12Ci for the treatment of LUAD patients, which marks the first approved targeted therapy for KRAS-mutant tumors. Nevertheless, these therapies face the same limitation as other targeted therapies, the therapeutic potential of these inhibitors can be impaired by resistance mechanisms. Deciphering resistance mechanisms to G12Ci is of prime relevance to predict which patients may benefit from these therapies and to propose resistance-overcoming therapeutic strategies for maximizing therapeutic impact of these inhibitors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We generated 10 acquired resistant LUAD cell lines to G12Ci (Sotorasib and Adagrasib), exposing sensitive cells to increasing concentrations of drugs. All the acquired resistant models were characterized at the proteomic (phospho-Array and Western Blot) and transcriptomic (WTS) levels to find signatures that define the resistance.The efficacy of G12Ci was tested in vitro in a panel of 8 cell lines and 7 PDX-derived organoids (PDXDO) models and in vivo in 7 patient-derived xenografts (PDX) models to classify them as resistant, sensitive or partially sensitive. The efficacy of the combination of FGFR1 and G12Ci was tested in vitro in the panel of 10 acquired resistant cell lines but also in the parental cell lines and PDXDOs (sensitive and intrinsic resistant) and in vivo in the intrinsic resistant PDXs. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The characterization of 10 acquired resistant cell lines at the proteomic and transcriptomic levels showed differences in the expression and/or activation of Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptors (FGFRs) in more than 50% of them. The combination of KRASG12C and FGFR1 inhibitors in all acquired resistant cell lines showed efficacy, regardless of whether acquired resistance was mediated or not by FGFR1 overexpression/overactivation.In addition, the combination of KRASG12C and FGFR1 inhibitors showed more efficacy than the monotherapies in most intrinsically resistant cell lines, PDXDOs and PDXs models. Finally, we tested the combination with FGFR1i in sensitive or partially responsive models, observing an improvement in efficacy compared to monotherapy with G12Ci. CONCLUSIONS: The activation or overexpression of FGFR1 acts as a mechanism of acquired resistance to KRASG12C inhibitors.-The combination of FGFR and KRASG12C inhibitors is effective as an acquired/intrinsic resistance-overcoming therapeutic strategy in cell lines, PDXDOs and PDXs models.-The combination of FGFR and KRASG12C inhibitors is also synergistic for sensitive models, which could maximize therapeutic impact of KRASG12C inhibitors. Abstract:

Мета. У статті аналізується «Наказ XXV Всесвітнього російського народного собору» під назвою «Настоящее и будущее Русского мира», затверджений делегатами ВРНС 27 березня 2024 р. у Залі церковних соборів Храму Христа Спасителя в Москві під головуванням московського патріарха Кіріла Гундяєва. Простежено розвиток та аналізуються основні ідеологічні постулати сучасної російської фундаменталістсько-войовничої доктрини «русского міра», яка активно впроваджувалася в Московській патріархії Кірілом Гундяєвим та ФСБ з кінця 1990-х років і яка стала ідейним обгрунтуванням російської агресії проти України та геноциду українського народу в 2022– 2024 рр. Автор доходить висновку, що прийнятий 27 березня 2024 р. документ є безпрецедентним як такий, що вийшов під егідою керівництва РПЦ МП і отримав найвище благословення й санкціонування від патріарха та інших ієрархів Московського патріархату. Автор статті зазначає, що цей документ за своєю суттю нагадує та частково копіює програмні документи пронацистського церковного руху 1930–1940-х рр., відомого під назвою «Німецькі християни» (нім. – Glaubensbewegung «Deutsche Christen»); він суперечить Євангельському вченню, християнському світосприйняттю та православному богослов’ю і є відвертою апологією антиєвангельських ідей. Зокрема, автор звертає увагу на те, що в документі війна Росії проти України проголошується як «священна війна», чим очільники Московського патріархату намагаються легітимізувати та «сакралізувати» її. При цьому розробниками документа цілковито заперечується право на окреме існування України та українського народу. Натомість проголошується повернення до старої, анахронічної та антинаукової імперсько-міфологічної доктрини «триєдності російського народу». Московський патріарх Кіріл та інші розробники документа заявляють, що «після завершення СВО вся територія сучасної України має увійти до зони виняткового впливу Росії», а «можливість існування на цій території» самостійної Української держави «має бути повністю виключена». Проголошуючи претензії на глобальне лідерство Росії в «новому світовому порядку», автори документа заявляють про власну «духовно-цивілізаційну» винятковість «русского міра», його «тисячолітнє царювання» на землі та роль «Катехона» («Стримуючого світову таїну беззаконня»). За висновком автора статті, затверджений керівництвом РПЦ МП документ, посягаючи на свободу націй до самовизначення, свободи й незалежності, заперечує саме право існування українців як окремого народу, ігнорує історичні процеси розвитку його культурної самобутності та державності. Крім того, зазначені в цьому документі постулати підпадають під низку псевдохристиянських єретичних учень, які неодноразово були засуджені багатьма святими отцями православ’я. Автор статті наголошує, що спроби з боку керівництва Московського патріархату «сакралізувати» і наділити сучасну Російську Федерацію та її правлячий злочинний режим «месіанськими» ознаками засвідчують, що воно намагається штучно витворити нову громадянську релігію, яка назовні прикривається середньовічними християнськими термінами, але за внутрішньою суттю є антихристиянською та антиєвангельською. Крім того, прийнятий документ за своїмми ознаками є неофашистським і неонацистським, містить заклики до ксенофобії, расизму, насильства та геноциду. За висновком автора, московський патріарх Кіріл Гундяєв був тим, хто сформулював і подав Путіну та його оточенню нову войовничу фундаменталістську квазірелігійну ідеологію, яка була взята на озброєння путінським режимом у його агресії проти України, і яка тепер є причиною геноциду та смертей десятків тисяч мирних українських жителів.

Abstract: Subject As Freedom (1930) is correctly regarded as Krishnachandra Bhattacharyya's magnum opus. But this text relies on a set of ideas and develops from a set of concerns that KCB develops more explicitly in essays written both before and after that text, which might be regarded as its intellectual bookends. These ideas are important and fascinating in their own right. They also illuminate KCB's engagement with Kant and with the Vedānta tradition as well as his understanding of freedom itself, including its soteriological dimension. These two essays are "Sankara's Doctrine of Māyā" (1930) and "The Advaita and Its Spiritual Significance" (1936). We explore KCB's conception of philosophy and its relation to spiritual practice through a close reading of these two essays.

Abstract:

Abstract Raimonds Cinovskis (1930–1998) devoted his entire life to plants, especially to the research of dendroflora in Latvia, as well as in the Baltic states in general, and he also participated in botanical expeditions in several places in Asia. He introduced many new names of plant taxa, described new taxa, and made new name combinations. Although the plant names he created are widely used by Latvian botanists and can also be found in the seed exchange catalogues issued by local botanic gardens, these names have never been (with some exceptions) evaluated before. This paper summarises all of the names of plant taxa introduced by R. Cinovskis. It was established that R. Cinovskis introduced more than 200 new names of plant taxa or new name combinations for plants belonging to 11 plant families — Betulaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Cupressaceae, Grossulariaceae, Juglandaceae, Pinaceae, Ranunculaceae, Rosaceae, Salicaceae, Sapindaceae, and Ulmaceae. The majority of the names of plant taxa were for plants of the rose family (Rosaceae). Critically evaluating the compliance of the names introduced by R. Cinovskis with the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, it was concluded that the majority of the names were published illegitimately.

Nunca una película fue proyectada en medio de un silencio absoluto. Varios acoples musicales fueron incorporados, en los inicios o intermedios de la función —ignoramos con qué nivel efectivo de vinculación—, a la muestra fílmica que estaba completamente circundada por ruidos del exterior y del interior de la sala. Al mismo tiempo, las proyecciones constituidas por filmes diversos estaban insertas en programas de variedades que incluían ballets, números cómicos, atracciones y otros. La música tendría la función —en palabras de Burch— de combatir la contaminación del silencio diegético, ocasionada por ruidos incontrolados del exterior, por el vaivén del público en la sala, las conversaciones, etc., sustituyéndola por un espacio sonoro organizado, una especie de «hilo rojo tendido entre el filme y el espectador», en palabras de Marcel L’Herbier. Este trabajo pretende iniciar, desde la historia del cine, la recopilación de los músicos y de las prácticas musicales que se llevaron a cabo en Venezuela durante los años del cine silente.

Abstract This paper focuses on the prominent German theologian Adolf von Harnack in his capacity as a public intellectual during the Weimar Republic. The few works of scholarship that address Harnack’s Weimar years at any length are in German, and the barely extant Anglophone literature, severely outdated, largely neglects to evaluate adequately the evolution and scope of Harnack’s pedagogical and theological positions as well as of the institutional power he commanded. Drawing principally from Harnack’s writings, both personal and published, before World War I until his death in 1930, this essay seeks to chart his intellectual development during the final years of his life and to survey how he translated his liberal theological principles into loyalty to the Weimar constitution. Public intellectuals such as Harnack were able to serve the public good in multifaceted, unquantifiable ways without attaching themselves to a particular party or to an explicitly partisan cause. By examining Harnack’s public and theological activity, I intend to provide a more holistic look at intellectual life in the Weimar Republic and to advocate for both a less restrictive definition of “public intellectual” and a broader conception of “political activism.”

Сравниваются жилые кварталы, спроектированные Объединением архитекторов-урбанистов (АРУ) в 1930 году для соцгорода Новый Чарджуй (арх. В.П. Калмыков и Л.О. Гриншпун) и Намангана (арх. В.А. Лавров и В.С. Попов). С помощью метода цифрового моделирования различных типов жилых домов восстановлена архитектурно-пространственная организация застройки, определена степень соответствия региональным традициям после построения дома. Выявлены ком-позиционные приёмы, применённые архитекторами-урбанистами при проектировании квартала среднеазиатских соцгородов. Истоки происхождения этих приёмов показаны в комплексе с проектными предложениями архитекторов АРУ для Автостроя и Зелёного города (1929–1930) и других творческих объединений, что позволило определить творческие подходы к решению проектных задач: «адаптивный» В.П. Калмыкова и «универсальный» В.А. Лаврова.

abstract: From roughly 1930 to 1950, newsreel theaters played important roles in urban and film cultures. These small (200- to 600-seat) theaters showed hour-long loops of news that patrons could drop into from morning to midnight. Some aspects of the newsreel theater experience extended the rituals of nickelodeon spectatorship of earlier decades, and others predated the post–World War II development of television news consumption. Newsreel theaters allowed patrons to pass the time watching motion picture news, and they became politically charged spaces offering ways for people to watch and react vocally to the news in public as members of groups.

Im Zentrum dieses Aufsatzes stehen drei Fallstudien zu Dwight L. Moody (1837–1899), William „Billy“ Sunday (1862–1935) and Bruce F. Barton (1886–1967), die die marktgerechte Propagierung eines besonderen Vertrauensverhältnisses zwischen dem Sohn Gottes und dem einzelnen Gläubigen, gekleidet in die Semantik von persönlicher Nähe und Geborgenheit, analysieren. Dieser Individualisierungsschub prägte die religiöse Kommunikation im protestantischen Milieu während der progressive era, einer Zeit extrem beschleunigter Urbanisierungs-, Migrations-, Industrialisierungs- und Rationalisierungsprozesse, entscheidend und wurde über den Kreis des Evangelikalismus hinaus ein wichtiger Aspekt bei der Konstruktion kapitalistischen Marktdenkens in den USA. Mit Jesus an ihrer Seite, so die Botschaft, könnten die Gläubigen nicht nur die Härten und Unwägbarkeiten ihres eigenen Lebens besser meistern und gesellschaftliche Übel bekämpfen, sondern sie gingen nun auch immer optimistischer in eine neue Welt des Konsums. Dieses Angebot war besonders für urban lebende weiße Männer attraktiv, die versuchten, ein Leben gestützt auf traditionelle christliche Werte mit den neuen Ansprüchen in der kapitalistischen Moderne in Übereinstimmung zu bringen und gerade durch die Verbindung eigentlich widersprüchlicher emotionaler Angebote zugleich fromme, starke und wirtschaftlich erfolgreiche Persönlichkeiten zu sein: ganze christliche Männer.

ABSTRACT: This article focuses on the photo exhibition “Rising from the Ruins” hosted by the East Berlin tourist office. Opening in 1983 in the ruins of a bombed-out church, the exhibition contrasted the rubble of 1945 Berlin with the city’s postwar rebuilding, and in 1984, 1930 was added as a third comparative. Laying out the exhibition in its first two years while building on theory of GDR memory culture, this analysis argues that in this period 1983–1984, state control over the narrative presented faltered. As such, the exhibition can be viewed as a precursor of the eventual public rejection of GDR memory culture.

Abstract: The travel books of the Bohemian-German author Richard Katz (1888–1968) were once among the most popular publications in German literature but have since been forgotten. This essay intends to reread, from a postcolonial perspective, Katz’s work from the interwar period. It focuses on his book about the Dutch East Indies, today’s Indonesia, Heitere Tage mit braunen Menschen (1930), in order to explain how and why the early form of postcolonial and antiglobalist critique we find in Katz’s writings could coexist with other ideas that reiterated nineteenth-century colonialist and racist conceptions about the indigenous Other and people of mixed race. The latter is all the more intriguing considering that Katz himself, being Jewish, was soon to become the victim of a political ideology marked by ideas similar to some of the ones he defended when writing about Southeast Asia.

The study, based on archival materials introduced into scholarly circulation for the first time, shows the archival efforts of the eminent Russian historian-caucasus expert M.A. Polievktov (1872-1942) during the "tiflis period" of scientific invention (1920-1942). It is stated in the scien-tific literature that the scientist's archiving activity has not yet become a research subject. The au-thor intends to disclose similar characteristics of this behavior in the 1920s and 1940s. The article demonstrates that the name of M.A. Polievktov, a representative of the St.Petersburg historian school, is significantly linked with the construction of historial archives of the Caucasus in Geor-gia (from 1924 s.), training of specialists in archiving, setting up a course on archiving M.A. Po-lievktov developed the problems of Caucasian archeography, uncovered a number of archaeologi-cal materials on Georgian history and Russian-Geogian ties, and introduced them into scholarly circulation. Documents relating to the origins of diplomatic ties between Georgia and Russia were discovered in the Central Archives of the USSR as a result of scientific visits arranged by the Cen-tral Archives of the SSR of Georgia. M.A. Polievktov's archiving activities occurred during a crit-ical juncture in the development of Soviet archival research, as the internal political struggle worsened and historical science became more ideologically oriented. All of this was reflected in the fate of the scientist and architect. During the fifth, he was subjected to discrimination against dissidents («kondrativism») and was temporarily barred from working at the SSR of Georgia's Central Archive.

The brand of the American multinational company, which specializes in breakfast foods, is known worldwide, has influenced the eating habits of millions of people for more than a century, and has an annual turnover of several billion dollars. Not everyone knows its history. This article retraces some phases of his story and reconnects them to a specific phase of Adventism. This begins thanks to the intuition of Ellen Gould White and continues by internalizing the value of time and intertwining it with a global way of life, which includes the relationship with food. This union anticipates the contemporary trend and allows us to deepen the relationships between body, mind, and spirit, physical and spiritual nourishment. Abstract: Here I look at sundry aspects of the current controversy about Generative AI and, in particular, the implications of this new and rapidly evolving technology for poetry, the arts, and human creativity in general. My essay looks at earlier episodes in the history of thought, from Descartes on, that I take to have prefigured this latest debate around 'the human' in relation to its various physical, 'artificial,' or (presumptively) prosthetic means of extension and refinement. I also discuss its bearing on literary-critical issues concerning the formal or structural aspects of poetry, the role (if any) of authorial intent, and the extent to which criticism enters into– and might lay claim to a stake in–what counts as human creativity. A central point of reference is William Empson's 1930 book, Seven Types of Ambiguity, where these issues are raised in a strikingly prescient way through his practice of close-focused textual analysis allied to great philosophical acuity. I conclude that a priori attitudinizing, pro or con, is not much use in this context, but that poets, critics, philosophers, cognitive scientists, and AI researchers need to cooperate in the reexamination of many long-standing but now highly contestable distinctions.

Abstract: The 1950s and 1960s policy of tribal termination is justly regarded as a genocidal federal effort to extinguish tribal sovereignty and identity. Some tribal leaders, however, like Guy Jennison, chief of the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma from 1930 to 1962, supported termination. Jennison’s advocacy for termination developed out of an Ottawa political tradition that sought greater autonomy through embracing federal policies aimed at tribal elimination. In this political tradition, the Ottawa endeavored to escape federal control through eliminatory policies while subverting the eliminatory intentions of policy-makers by ensconcing their community in other dimensions of the dominant society. For Jennison, endorsing termination was a strategy to escape federal paternalism and gain greater control over tribal affairs. In anticipation of termination, Jennison led the Ottawas to reestablish tribal government through a state-chartered nonprofit corporation; by perpetuating tribal identity and prerogatives through this vehicle, the Ottawa undermined the eliminatory intentions of termination policy. Placing Jennison’s advocacy for termination within a longer tradition of Ottawa activism reveals the Native intellectual genealogies that informed his perspective and demonstrates how policies intending tribal elimination represented a complex site of Ottawa struggle against federal authority.

Abstract:

The authors of the article have identified six stages of language construction in Tuva. The first stage (1921– 1929) was marked by the pursuit of a basis for developing a written language, with the old-written Mongolian language functioning as an official language at that time. In 1930, out of various projects, the one that received support was a project developed by scientists from the Soviet Union. The second stage (1930–1944) was to spread the Tuvan script created based on the Latin alphabet to the masses and to launch a cultural revolution. The third stage (early 40s – early 60s) began in 1941 when the decision was made to transition to the Cyrillic alphabet. This year, Ulug-Khem, a literary, artistic, and socio-political magazine of the Union of Writers of Tuva, began to be published. The third stage was completed when the academic grammar of the Tuvan language appeared, currently the “Fundamentals of Tuvan Orthography.” The significance of the fourth stage lies in the creation of a considerable body of texts in the Tuvan language, encompassing various stylistic affiliations. The fifth stage (1990–2010) can be referred to as the era of democratization when the Law on Languages was approved in the Republic of Tuva. From 2010 to the present, the sixth stage of language development in Tuva has been characterized by efforts to reinforce the status of the language and ensure its survival in the face of globalization and urbanization.

У статті розглянуто особливості художньої прози українського письменника, фітотерапевта, особистого лікаря митрополита Андрея Шептицького, політв’язеня Василя Кархута (1905–1980). Проаналізовано повісті «Полум’яний вихор» та «Окрилена земля», в яких відображено складний і неоднозначний період української історії кінця 1930-х – середини 1940-х років. Простежено, як письменник перетворює живий матеріал сучасності у художні тексти. Відзначено, що письменник стає викривачем суті антилюдяних політичних режимів. Разом з тим, обидві повісті – реквієм тим, хто в тодішніх умовах беріг свою національну і людську сутність. Показано, що ці твори є водночас і художніми текстами, і документами, в яких автор зафіксував думки і відчуття своїх сучасників.

Заслуги Фукудзавы Юкити (1835–1901) в деле формирования современной (после революции Мэйдзи) Японии весьма велики. Он написал множество работ, знакомящих японцев с достижениями западной цивилизации. Фукудзава основал также первый в стране частный университет Кэйо и тем самым внес значительный вклад в становление системы образования. В Японии его принято считать великим просветителем. Вместе с тем оценки деятельности Фукудзавы и его идей претерпевали существенные изменения. К концу жизни он был неотъемлемой частью истеблишмента. Положительное отношение к нему официоза сохранялось и некоторое время после его смерти, но в 1930-е гг. оно изменилось, поскольку идеи Фукудзавы относительно независимости и самоуважения личности оказались неприемлемы для тоталитарного государства. Однако вместе с крахом милитаризма именно эти идеи позволили ему войти в пантеон героев послевоенной демократической Японии.

Рассмотрена история проектирования и строительства Дома Советов Дагестанской АССР в Махачкале, в ходе которого в 1926 году сначала были выполнены заказные конкурсные проекты конструктивистов Л.А. Веснина и М.Я. Гинзбурга. Они не были приняты заказчиком из-за отсутствия требуемых восточных элементов. Разработанные затем проект В.В. Воейкова и совместный проект Е.Д. Ильиной и А.А. Карпова не были утверждены НТС ГУКХ. После передачи строительства акционерному русско-германскому обществу «Русгерстрой», для которого возведение правительственного здания в Махачкале стало первым опытом строительства в СССР, общество заказало проект палладианцу И.В. Жолтовскому. Констатируется, корректируя существующие точки зрения, что конкурса между проектами Гинзбурга и Жолтовского не было, поскольку эти проекты возникли на разных этапах подготовки строительства здания. Выдвигается гипотеза, что инициаторами заказа проекта Жолтовскому могли стать сотрудничавшие с «Русгерстроем» архитекторы А.К. Иванов и Д.С. Марков, которые были тесно связаны с Жолтовским в своей предыдущей деятельности. Установлено, что из окончательной строительной программы Дома Советов в целях экономии средств, но противореча творческим принципам Жолтовского и без согласования с ним, был исключён ряд крупных формообразующих фрагментов здания. После передачи здания Наркомпросу оно как Дом Советов не функционировало и во многом утратило градостроительное и общественно-политическое значение.

The paper summarizes the factual material revealing the contribution of scientists of the agroengineering school of the Southern Urals to the development of V.P. Goryachkin's scientific ideas. The Chelyabinsk Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture, established in 1930, became the center for the development of such scientific areas as the study of the dynamics of mobile agricultural units, the development of engine theory, the improvement of tractor design, the development of a differential method for threshing grain crops, the intensification and automation of grain separation processes, the creation of scientific foundations of technical service and the theory of restoration of agricultural machinery. (Research purpose) The research purpose is systematization of historical and scientific materials in the field of development of agroengineering scientific schools of the Southern Urals; showing the continuity of V.P. Goryachkin's teachings in the works of the considered scientific schools. (Materials and methods) Found out that the theoretical and practical results of scientific developments of the Lyubimov school were greatly influenced by numerous field tests in collective farms and state farms of the Southern Urals, as well as the use of computer-aided design systems for computing. The influence of the development of tractors of the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant on the scientific research of E.M. Kharitonchik, I.E. Ulman was described. The links between branch scientific institutes and the Chelyabinsk Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture were highlighted. (Results and discussion) We systematized the scientific achievements of the teaching staff of the Chelyabinsk Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture from 1930 to 2023. (Conclusions) Scientists of scientific schools of the Southern Urals fully used all the resources available in the region and beyond: close communication within the branch scientific community (VIM, GOSNITI, NATI), close work with advanced industrial and agricultural enterprises for the development of agroengineering science and education and the introduction of the results into production.

Introduction. The article is devoted to the personality of a prominent orientalist, the first doctor of Philology of Kalmykia, Tseren-Dordzhi Nominkhanov. The purpose of the article is to analyze and introduce into scientific circulation little-known and previously unknown data on the biography of Tseren-Dordzhi Nominkhanov from the first years of his activity (before 1930th). The materials for the study were both individual documents and data from surveys conducted in different years in Kalmykia. The information obtained as a result of the interviews provides an opportunity to expand the understanding of the difficult life path of the scientist and the fate of his people, testifies to the relevance of using an integrated approach in biographical research. Results. To date, there are different spellings of the scientist's name in the scientific literature, which is due to his use of both variants in the early and late periods of his activity, as well as the peculiarities of the Kalmyk onomasticon. The authors pay attention to the environment in which the formation of Ts.-D. Nominkhanov took place, and a possible influence on the subsequent formation of the researcher. The data of surveys containing new information about the life of Ts.-D. Nominkhanov, as well as data from archival materials, testifying to the difficult initial path of becoming a scientist, are presented.

Abstract:

Abstract. The North Atlantic Oscillation explains a large fraction of the climate variability across the North Atlantic from the eastern seaboard of North America across the whole of Europe. Many studies have linked the North Atlantic Oscillation to climate extremes in this region, especially in winter, which has motivated considerable study of this pattern of variability. However, one overlooked feature of how the North Atlantic Oscillation has changed over time is the explained variance of the pattern. Here we show that there has been a considerable increase in the percentage of variability explained by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) over the 20th century from 32 % in 1930 to 53 % by the end of the 20th century. Whether this change is due to natural variability, a forced response to climate change, or some combination remains unclear. However, we found no evidence for a forced response from an ensemble of 50 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) models. These models did all show substantial internal variability in the strength of the North Atlantic Oscillation, but it was biased towards being too high compared to the reanalysis and with too little variation over time. Since there is a direct connection between the North Atlantic Oscillation and climate extremes over the region, this has direct consequences for both the long-term projection and near-term prediction of changes to climate extremes in the region.

Abstract:

The aim of the work: to investigate the measures and results of the state's activities to overcome child homelessness in the 1920s – 1930s, to reveal the practical activities of the joint efforts of the state and the public in solving this issue. The research methodology was made up of general scientific principles of historicism, objectivity and systematicity, and also used general scientific and special research methods. The application of the principle of objectivity made it possible to consider the subject of research taking into account the objective laws that determined the processes of socio-economic development of Ukraine in the 1920s and 1930s. The principle of historicism made it possible to comprehensively analyze the problem chosen for research in its dynamics. The scientific novelty is represented by the analysis of the main forms, principles, most essential features and peculiarities of the functioning of the system of state assistance to children, measures to prevent the further increase in the level of child homelessness and crime, and their author's periodization was carried out. Conclusions. The situation that led to an increase in the number of homeless children in the 1920s and 1930s required the Soviet authorities to organize relevant state structures and take effective measures of a practical nature. In the Ukrainian SSR, issues of childhood protection and overcoming child homelessness were dealt with by specialized People's Commissariats of Education, Health Care, and Social Protection, as well as state commissions and public organizations. The rapid growth of child homelessness discredited and called into question the ideological principles of the Soviet government in the eyes of the population of the republics and the international community, forcing them to look for a way out of this situation. The elimination of the problem was hampered by the lack of a comprehensive approach, which would allow covering the entire range of tasks. The low organizational level of the low-level government apparatus did not lead to finding a proper and quick solution to the problem. These and other issues demonstrated the weakness of the Soviet state system, hindered the timely resolution of assigned tasks, which affected the solution to the problem of homelessness in general.

Abstract:

The presence of internal telomeric sequences (ITSs) in chromosomes typically indicates instances of genome reorganization. Changes in morphology and chromosome number can be sources of intraspecific polymorphism and also lead to speciation. Both variants are found in flatworms, but ITSs are rare in chromosomes, as is common in other invertebrate animals. Out of 23 flatworm species ITSs has been identified in only three parasitic species. Using FISH with telomeric probes, we found that ITSs are also present in the chromosomes of the endemic Baikal planarians Baikalobia Kenk, 1930 (Tricladida, Continenticola, Dendrocoelidae). This is the first time that ITSs has been identified in free-living flatworms. Like Shistosoma Weinland, 1858, the appearance of ITSs in the Baikal planarians could be associated with the process of speciation. There is no data yet on ITSs in other dendrocoelids, and the question remains whether ITSs are a specific feature of Baikal planarians or a special feature of all dendrocoelids.
