Full textPaul Claudel has always shown a great interest in music ; as a youth, he was deeply impressed by Wagner and influenced by the mallarmean circle who was dreaming of the total-art work. In 1912, as for the first time one of his plays was performed, he met Darius Milhaud, then just aged twenty; that was the beginning of a profitable collaboration marked by the outstanding work on the Orestie by Aeschylus (1913-1924) translated by Claudel, the incidental music for Protee (1913-1919) and the ballet L’homme et son désir (1917). However, it isn't before 1927 that the playwright really started to experiment on the numerous ways of mixing drama and music, which we choose to call "theatrical music". It was then a question of composing music for written dramas such as L'annonce faite à Marie, L'otage, Le père humilié, Le soulier de Satin, Sous le rempart d'Athènes, or experiment on new and more complex formulas, drawing nearer opera (le livre de Christophe Colomb) or dramatic oratorio (Jeanne d'arc au bûcher, la sagesse) or pure oratorio (la danse des morts). Thus Claudel collaborated with musicians who were as different as Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Germaine Tailleferre, Paul Collaer and Maria Scibor. Whether they were recognized musicians or amateurs, Claudel always insisted on playing a leading part when he worked in collaboration, imaging beforehand the music he wished and expecting the composer to realize his own creation, and by doing so, he opened a unique and astonishing way. Our work, after examining the sources and influences, makes a review of the collaborations before studying the question of the connection between words and music, and face the essential problem of the bond between drama and music : the construction, the spectators' reception as well as the musical symbolics

Full textBasing on a documentary, editorial and historical approach of the musicological periodical and considering musicology as a form of writing about music, we examine the contribution of journals to the construction of a discipline. Consisting of 122 american, french and german titles, as well as of three leading journals in musicology, the Archiv für Musikwissenschaft, the Revue de Musicologie and The Musical Quarterly, the corpus is submitted to a macroscopical and microscopical observation and to a content analysis. The aim of this investigation is to shed light on the ambiguities and the historicity of learned journals about music. As a rhetorical instrument, the periodical circumscribes a disciplinary territory. This medium of communication federates a collective of which it writes the story, elaborates the history and constructs the identity. By its faculty to accept differences, to link, to leave room to controversy as well as to put discourses into circulation, it can be viewed as a cultural and a heterogeneous object. The articulation between science, writing and music acts on the musicological periodical which is in perpetual transformation
Gaulon, Aleth. "Les manifestations de scepticisme dans les textes non-fictionnels (1952-2002) de Martin WALSER." Toulouse 2, 2007. http://www.theses.fr/2007TOU20084.
Full textThe perplexity incited by the speech Martin Walser pronounced for the Frankfurt Book Fair's prestigious Peace Prizein 1998, invites us to question the coherence of the numerous positions the author had taken in his essays, speeches and interviews since the 1950's. This thesis defends the adoption by Walser of a position fundamentally spectical as rendering his non-fictional texts intelligible. The aim of this work is to analyse these texts following a thematic plan in three parts : to respectively treat his search for recognition for writers, his commitment as an intellectual at the service of democracy and the suffering as a German dealing with the nation's past. We reach the conclusion that Walser's scepticism plays the role of both motor and brake-it being the instrument to accompany him in his ongoing research into the liberty of evolution and individual expression, his form of scepticism can be differentiated from a form of pessimism that could have otherwise conducted him to mutism

Full textAfrican, Caribbean, and English societies, in spite of the fact that they share common features, remain different in their profile on the grounds of the particularities of the physical spaces that witness their expressions and the specific goals they target within historical, cultural, political and economic data that form out their social stratification. In this way, it becomes important, as a main idea of this work, to put on surface the intrinsic link between space and discourse. A semiotic analysis of literary space in Ngugi wa Thiong’o’s, George Lamming’s and William Boyd’s works has led to a concluding argument which highlights social and political realities. Read through a semiotic stand, the nomenclature of these events and realities root their meaning in communicating scenarios which portray pragmatic aspects. Levels of language and nature of messages help to observe some logic of positions and transformations that imply continuity and discontinuity dimensions. What affects to the literary message an anthropological account narrated into a framework of interactions that articulate a totalizing significance

Full textObjects of Memory is a master's dissertation in Multimedia Art with a theoreticalpractical nature, which we analyze the concept of memory associated with the postcard’s object. Starting from the aggregation of dichotomous concepts such as memory / myth and Gestalt / narrative unit, we explore relationships based in a construction of the visuality having as resource the static image and the moving image, which intersection is made from the photography with the video. For an interpretation of the postcard and its artistic faculties as an object, we evoke the Mail Art approaching the use of postcards by the Fluxus Group and by artists such as Robert Filliou and Ray Johnson, who in the late 1950s used postcards as artistic objects to communicate with other artists around the world. Gathering the works of Alain Resnais, Chris Marker, Marcel Broodthaers, Orhan Pamuk and Óscar Muñoz, we observed possible relations with the concept of memory within the scope of the project, specifically the work methodology inserted in narrative and visual discourse. For the Objects of Memory final project, we have been developed three videos - Eraser River, Vanishing and I Remember - each one representing a postcard to be projected through a device. From the intersection of images we explored a working methodology that allowed to create visual events with the purpose of transforming theperception of the postcard as a whole. For this, we connected static images (photography) with images in motion (video) through the process of cut, collage and assembly to ensure a logical and perceptive speech in the body’s postcard. Although independent, each one of these videos tries to express the concept of object of memory preserving, in this way, a relation with images of the past which appear analogous to the transformation of a still image into a moving image
