Abstract:
The spin-off enterprises are the connection between the university and the market. The one of them, the VOLVO, was founded in 1920. The number of spin-off enterprises has grown since the eighties, primarily in the USA. In our days there are about 3500 firms. We have not any information about the situation in Hungary, but we know that in Szeged there are 36 spin-off enterprises. In our work we presented the BIOPOLISZ Innovation Services Ltd., and its programme. After it we analysed the BIOPOLISZ's spin-off firms.

This article presents an annotated list of nematode taxa found in mangrove forests along four Vietnamese rivers: the Mekong, Be, Red and Yen Rivers. The list includes 208 species belonging to 88 genera, 36 families and 11 orders of the phylum Nematoda. Three genera and 138 species were first described from these habitats as new taxa. Theristus orientalis Gagarin, Nguyen Vu Thanh, 2005 is transferred to the genus Daptonema Cobb, 1920 as D. orientale (Gagarin, Nguyen Vu Thanh, 2005) nov.nom.. based on the presence of three terminal caudal setae.

Abstract:
Information is provided for 346 genus-group names used in Mutillidae, including 53 unavailable names: eight nomina nuda, seven lapsus calami, 36 incorrect subsequent spellings and two not considered valid when proposed. Of the 293 available names, 238 are currently considered valid: 208 of these are generic and 30 are subgeneric, 161 are known from both sexes, 40 from males only and 30 from females only (for the other seven one sex is uncertainly associated); of the 55 invalid names, 12 are objectively invalid (eight junior homonyms, four junior objective synonyms), 42 are junior subjective synonyms and one is a nomen dubium. Gender, type species and kind of fixation, taxonomic history and status, sex association, and distribution data are given for each available name. The following new nomenclatural acts are included: Wallacidia Lelej & Brothers gen. nov. (type species Mutilla oculata Fabricius, 1804) is proposed for Radoszkowskius sensu Lelej, 1996, 2005; Mutilla triguttata Lelej & Brothers nom. nov. is proposed for Mutilla africana André, 1895 (not Gistel, 1848); Peringueyella Nonveiller & Ć etković, 1995 and Peringeyotilla Nonveiller & Ć etković, 1997 are synonymized with Acanthomutilla Nonveiller, 1995 syn. nov. which is raised to generic status; Paralletilla Pagliano, 2005 is synonymized with Ronisia Costa, 1858 syn. nov.; Mutilla lobicornis André, 1907 is synonymized with Mutilla argenteopicta Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869 syn. nov.; Pristomutilla curtispinosa Bischoff, 1921 and Lophotilla makalanga Bischoff, 1920 are synonymized with Lophotilla comparanda Bischoff, 1920 syn. nov.; new combinations are proposed for Apteromutilla aethra (Péringuey, 1899), comb. nov. Abstract:
AbstractIn 1997 a 121 m ice core was retrieved from Lomonosovfonna, the highest ice field in Spitsbergen, Svalbard (1250 m a.s.l.). Radar measurements indicate an ice depth of 126.5 m, and borehole temperature measurements show that the ice is below the melting point. High-resolution sampling of major ions, oxygen isotopes and deuterium has been performed on the core, and the results from the uppermost 36 m suggest that quasi-annual signals are preserved. The 1963 radioactive layer is situated at 18.5–18.95 m, giving a mean annual accumulation of 0.36 m w.e. for the period 1963–96. The upper 36 m of the ice core was dated back to 1920 by counting layers provided by the seasonal variations of the ions in addition to using a constant accumulation rate, with thinning by pure shear according to Nye (1963). The stratigraphy does not seem to have been obliterated by meltwater percolation, in contrast to most previous core sites on Svalbard. The anthropogenic influence on the Svalbard environment is illustrated by increased levels of sulphate, nitrate and acidity. Both nitrate and sulphate levels started to increase in the late 1940s, remained high until the late 1980s and have decreased during the last 15 years. The records of δ18O, MSA (methane-sulphonic acid), and melt features along the core agree with the temperature record from Longyearbyen and the sea-ice record from the Barents Sea at a multi-year resolution, suggesting that this ice core reflects local climatic conditions.

Zangel, Valerie Anne. "Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Cape Town and Karoo, 1870-1920 : policy and attitudes." Thesis, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/24987.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the attitudes and policies which shaped the history of pulmonary tuberculosis in the Cape from 1870 to 1920 and culminated in the passing of the Public Health Act, Act 36 of 1919. It was this act which formed the basis of public health legislation in South Africa until the 1970s. The thesis is a contribution to the history of medicine and to the history of legislation. Topics explored include pulmonary tuberculosis and its early global history. When the practice of sufferers visiting places with particular climates became fashionable, towns in the Karoo became a popular destination. Their journey to the colony, together with their experience in Cradock is the subject of a chapter. Once the disease spread to the local population, the focus shifted to the attitudes and policies of the local authorities and their failure to address its spread. In contrast, in Cape Town the city council and its medical officer of health took up the challenge, but with limited success. The fight against tuberculosis was assisted by a number of dedicated individuals such as Dr Neil Macvicar who was the founder of the Native Health Society. The Society for the Prevention of Consumption, which was officially launched in Cape Town in June 1904, also contributed to educating the public about the disease. Once the Cape Colony entered into political Union in 1910 there was the added dimension of tuberculosis on the mines and the reluctance of mine officials to take care of workers suffering from the disease. This became an issue during the proceedings of the Tuberculosis Commission. The attitudes and prejudices towards the local population became formalised in the Public Health Act, Act 36 of 1919 because the act was drafted with the health of the white population in mind. By providing a skeleton budget for local authorities to deal with tuberculosis, the legislature ensured that the healthcare of the majority of the population, especially those who were most vulnerable to the disease, was not addressed. The legacy of that decision continues to haunt South Africa to the present day.
