Abstract:
The genus Ocnophila Brunner, 1907 is here redescribed with an emended diagnosis, containing three valid species from Venezuela and Colombia: Ocnophila integra Brunner, 1907 with Ocnophila signatior Brunner, 1907 syn. nov. as a new junior synonym, Ocnophila iphicla (Westwood, 1859) and Ocnophila serrata sp. nov. In addition to the description of the new species we redescribe O. integra and O. iphicla, also providing a description of the male genitalia for O. integra. For the other species previously contained in the genus, we synonymize Ocnophila brevifemur Brunner, 1907 syn. nov. and Ocnophila armata Brunner, 1907 syn. nov. under Pygirhynchus bispinosus (Redtenbacher, 1906), Ocnophila inaequalis Brunner, 1907 syn. nov. under Libethra venezuelica Brunner, 1907, and transfer the remaining species to other genera, resulting in the following new combinations: Agamemnon illegitimus (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., A. poeyi (Bolívar, 1888) comb. nov., Canuleius nattereri (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., C. pedestris (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Dyme acanthonota (Günther, 1930) comb. nov., D. borellii (Giglio-Tos, 1898) comb. nov., D. ramulus (Giglio-Tos, 1898) comb. nov., Exocnophila cornuta (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., E. tuberculata (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Litosermyle inconspicua (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Lit. nana (Shelford, 1913) comb. nov., Lit. riveti (Shelford, 1913) comb. nov., Lit. submutica (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Libethra aculeata (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Libethroidea willemsei (Günther, 1935) comb. nov., Pygirhynchus fortior (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., P. oryx (Westwood, 1859) comb. nov., P. scops (Kaup, 1871) comb. nov., Pseudosermyle meditans (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov., Sermyle aurita (Rehn, 1905) comb. nov., and S. ciliata (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov. Furthermore, Pygirhynchus carioca Piza, 1944 syn. nov. is synonymized under P. fortior comb. nov. We provide a description of the male and egg of Litosermyle Hebard, 1919, previously known only from females, through the illustration and redescription of Lit. inconspicua (Brunner, 1907) comb. nov. Abstract:
The objective of this study was to identify secular change in Australian all-cause mortality over the period 1907-1998. The authors found that there was a decreasing trend in all-cause mortality, with five phases, over the study period. Phase I: 1907 to 1916, with relatively stable, but high, mortality rates. Phase II: 1917 to 1929, with great variations. Phase III: 1930 to 1943, a more stable period with lower mortality. Phase IV: 1944 to 1970, a slightly decreasing trend, with stagnation over the period 1958-69. Phase V: 1971 to 1998, with continuous decline. The mortality trends for major causes of death including infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases, cancers, and injury are discussed. Possible reasons for the secular changes are explored.

Izmantojot biogrāfisko pieeju, rakstā tiks parādīta valsts sankcionētā vardarbība pret sievietēm 1905.–1907. gada revolūcijā. Matildes Krēgeres (1880–?) un Emmas Rigertes, dz. Lietuvietes, (1879–?) stāsti ir pagaidām vienīgie zināmie detalizēti vēstītie sieviešu pieredzes gadījumi. Abu pierakstīšanu veicināja biedrības “Piektais gads” 1926. gada aicinājums aktīvajiem revolūcijas dalībniekiem iesniegt anketas par pieredzēto. 1930.–1931. gadā daži autori latviešu presē pieminēja seksuālo vardarbību, ko soda ekspedīciju karavīri īstenoja pret sievietēm, tomēr citi preses izdevumi sabiedrībā dominējošo patriarhālo priekšstatu dēļ neizmantoja šķietamo aicinājumu vēstīt par tādām pieredzēm. 1905.–1907. gada revolūcijas piemiņas institucionalizēšanas iniciatore bija Latvijas Sociāldemokrātiskā strādnieku partija, bet pēc 1934. gada, kad autoritārā režīma valdība likvidēja partijas, vairs nebija politiskā spēka, kas varētu pievērst uzmanību fiziskā un seksuālā vardarbībā cietušo sieviešu pieredzei.

Abstract:
The police of Rio de Janeiro had an important role in the reform of the city in the early twentieth century. The impetus to build a modem city influenced elite intellectuals to try to reform the police in the modem, scientific fashion. After the first wave of reforms receded, the police was abandoned to a less prominent role, and left without resources to carryon the modernising process, resulting in the need to develop their own methods of work derived from their daily experience. The main purpose of this thesis is to look closely at daily police activity, trying to show how policemen developed their ways of viewing the world and their procedures from the experiences they faced. From their contacts with state administrators, in the figure of the Chief of Police, with members of the elite. and with the vast majority of poor citizens, policemen began to define the extent and limits of their power, building their place in the networks of patronage and authority that permeated Rio's society. They had to combine an unchecked power to deal with those they classified as the criminal classes, composed of the dispossessed, and an attitude of subservience to the powerful, in a pattern that characterises twentieth-century policing in Rio de Janeiro.

Paris 1, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998PA010521.

Full text
Abstract:
This relationships between art and design are affected by a lot of economic, social and industrial variations also important than esthetics modalities. Analysed under its induced configuration rather than autonomous, then design is considered like a real methodological way to understand the leading role it played towards art when the latter lost its mimetic part. In the same way, we analyse the three historical movements in our corpus (German Werkbund till 1914, the Bauhaus of Weimar and Russian constructivism till 1930), we have tried to indicate the most important theoretical structures that characterize these movements : place of artistic training in the plan of action of the Deutscher Werkbund ; relationships between art and craft industry ; the organicist permanent feature in the end of the nineteenth century spirit up to the twenties of the twentieth century ; the modalities of utopian philosophy and the community wishes of the first bauhaus. Russian constructivism for itself fitted an aesthetics of the intervention on the social and politic real to a revolution of artistic action. Constructivist artists were conscious of the distorsion of their pratics when they had to resolve the necessity to joint form and function, individuality and society, laboratory experiment and to stand the test of reality. The ability of art resistance to all socioeconomic shady deal implies above all efficiency of critical power of art to reality. It would be necessary to understand relationships between art and design in building mediations. The new borning link will be the design. If will permit to authentify the sense of the relation between artist and the world which he is censed to improve, without doing of this improvement the sense of the necessity of art. The condition and the nature of the artistic intervention on the reality will be signified essentially by the emergence of a disciplin "socialising" the act of creation. In this context, the artist's involvement to this new task seems be determinated by the "usefulness' degree of art and its capacity to he less contempluted than used

González, Pereira Verónica. "Perdón por (no) querer decir: Derrida: responsabilidad, secreto y literatura." Tesis, Universidad de Chile, 2009. http://www.repositorio.uchile.cl/handle/2250/108522.

Full text
Abstract:

"The move to independence from Anglican leadership : an examination of the relationship between Alexander Alfred Boddy and the early leaders of the British Pentecostal denominations (1907-1930)." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2009. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/421/.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the relationship between the leaders of the Anglican Church, centring on Alexander Alfred Boddy (1854-1930), considered the father of British Pentecostalism, and the young Pentecostals in the process of formation of the three major Pentecostal denominations, namely, the Apostolic Faith Church, the Assemblies of God and the Elim Church. Although there were not many Anglican participants in British Pentecostalism and most Pentecostals came from Nonconformist backgrounds, Boddy dominated the leadership from the beginning. As a result, most of the British Pentecostals who were actively involved in the forming of Pentecostal denominations were either directly or indirectly influenced by him. However, as Pentecostalism grew, disagreement and conflict appeared over certain issues and intensified during the period when the Pentecostal denominations were taking shape. Finally, with the departure of the Anglican leaders from Pentecostalism, the Anglican influence disappeared. Although there is no doubt that Boddy’s contribution to the history of British Pentecostalism was considerable, there were huge gaps between his teachings and those of the men who became the denominational leaders of the Pentecostals.

Abstract:
Western culture, in which creative women evolve, imposes restraints regarding their bodies, their mobility, as well as their access to knowledge and freedom of thought. Thus they are kept in a subordination suitable to an assigned sexual role geared to childbearing and rearing. These limitations touch creative women in various ways : in their biographies, as stumbling blocks to their development ; in the art world, as a social sphere reasserting the sexual hierarchy ; in messages reflected in the arts, powerful conveyors of the social order's symbolic foundations. The social order thus reproduced in and by the art world is here seen brought to confrontation with the lives and works of three twentieth century Western artists, Niki de Saint Phalle, Frida Kahlo and Diane Arbus, who testify to the transgression of the system that women must undertake in order to exist in the world of artistic creation

Marin, Laura. Paris 7, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA070080.

Full text
Abstract:
The Ph. D. Thesis The manners and the effects of the Neutral. Reading Blanchot in the traces of Levinas and Derrida aims at exploring the meaning and uses of a key concept in Maurice Blanchot's theoretical writings: the neutral, a notion difficult to seize and seldom discussed in recent literary theory. In Blanchot's view, the neutral is the fundamental ontological condition of literature, but to analyze his way of understanding it is a challenging task, since the neutral is impossible to tackle by means of a dialectic approach. In these circumstances, a direct conceptual analysis cannot but fail, and that is why I opted for a methodological reduction which enabled me to consider the neutral from an "oblique" perspective. The primary question my thesis tries to answer is therefore not "What is the neutral?", but "What does the neutral do?" (i. E. What are the effects it produces), and how (in what manner it acts). From my point of view, this strategy creates a double critical distance: on the one hand, the diverse consequences the neutral had in the field of post-war French literature and philosophy notwithstanding, it allows me to deal with Blanchot's writing, that is with the rhetoric it is based upon in both his fiction and his essays; on the other hand, my analysis of the place and reception of such a notion in Levinas' and Derrida's works allows me to understand and stress out the fold that critical insight, conceptual detachment and writing create in their thought, given their complex relationship with Blanchot's oeuvre

Abstract:
The present work, through the study of the "generation of 1907" member's trajectories, tries to explain how, counting with which resources and in what conditions agroup of rio-grandenses' politicians achieved, at the end of the 1920, to ascend to powerpositions in Brazil. We also defined the contours of the political game in Rio Grande doSul and Brazil in terms of the practices and resources that the agents that acted in it should possess to be succeed. From the parochial, regional and national levels, it was verified that this game was played as a dispute among mediators, that embodied positions reached through leadership on portions of the society that had in them its relationship channels with the juridical-political world.

Abstract In 1907, when Marianne Moore’s poems were beginning to appear in Tipyn O’Bob,the undergraduate magazine at Bryn Mawr, a canon of scholarly works in English on the literature and arts of the Far East was already being established. As her writing career developed, this field burgeoned as private collections2 of Chinese and Japanese art became available to a public already given to Chinese curio-collecting. By 1930, published work on Chinese art and history as well as commendable, if not definitive, translations of Chinese poetry were widely available in English.

Freeny’s Barn Dance Band first put down roots around 1913, when William Leslie Freeny (1898–1957), fiddler, and A. F. “Fonzo” Cannon (1900–67), guitarist, began to work together at square dances. Leslie Freeny was from Freeny community, some five miles southeast of Carthage in Leake County, as was his cousin Charles Hendrix Freeny (1907–75), who soon joined them to play tenor fiddle parts. Fonzo Cannon was born in the small community of Edinburg, northeast of Carthage. They continued to play at functions round Leake County, and in the mid-1920s were occasionally joined by Hendrix’s young cousin, banjo-player Samuel Carlton Freeny (1912–87). The band recorded for Okeh in 1930, and an associated group, the Freeny Harmonizers, for Vocalion in 1935.

Abstract:
Abstract Serial verb constructions (SVCs) have long been recognized in West African languages (e.g. Christaller 1875; Westermann 1907, 1930) and have been investigated in various frameworks (e.g. Bodomo 2002; Dechaine 1993). Nevertheless, there is very little understanding of their place in the overall grammatical architecture of individual languages (Delplanque 1998). This chapter seeks to describe the features of SVCs in Ewe and to situate them in the grammatical profile of the language. Although Ewe is said to have ‘uncontroversial cases’ of SVCs (Creissels 2000: 240), there is some confusion concerning which structures fall under SVCs (Lord 1993: 2; Co1lins 1997; Agbedor 1994). Another aim of the chapter is therefore to clarify, for Ewe, the relationship between SVC stricto sensu and other multiverb constructions whose functional equivalents may be SVCs in other languages.

Abstract:
This chapter describes the great rush to cash in national currencies for gold in 1930 and 1931. Under the press of this run on gold, gold-based credit systems collapsed. Thus, credit-led globalization, in its post-First World War version, gave way to the globally synchronized debt-destruction crisis known as the Great Depression. There was now indeed a many-faceted reaction against financial globalization. In Japan itself, the depression undermined pro-Western liberalism and opened the way for the fascistic turn of national life in the 1930s. The chapter then notes that every truly major international financial crisis of the era—1907, 1920, 1929—appeared first in Tokyo, having an onset some three to six months earlier than in New York and London. It seems that the contradictory faces of these world movements were manifested especially sharply in Japan, making Tokyo markets a sensitive leading indicator.

Abstract:
Abstract The focus of this chapter is Renaissance Italy as a model for art, for society, and for relations between the two. Yeats did not speak Italian. The two Italian writers most important to him, Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) and Count Baldassare Castiglione (1478–1529), author of Il Libro del Cortegiano (The Book of the Courtier) (1528), he read in translation. Unlike James Joyce and Ezra Pound, Yeats spent comparatively little time in Italy. In May 1907, with Lady Gregory and her son Robert, he visited Ravenna, Urbino, Ferrara, Venice, and Florence. In January–February 1925 he toured southern Italy and Sicily, where he absorbed the Byzantine mosaics in Monreale Cathedral, and completed A Vision. From 1928 to 1930 he wintered in Rapallo, where Pound had settled. But Yeats’s very distance from contemporary Italy, apart from (or exemplified by) his erratic gestures towards Mussolini, may have protected the mythic presence of older ‘Italies’ in his work.
