Abstract:
Opuntia Miller (1754: no pagination) is a genus critical from both taxonomic and nomenclattural points of views (see e.g., Pinkava 2002, Griffith & Porter 2009, Majure et al. 2012). Many of the taxa belonging to this genus were described bases on materials collected by Old World naturalists (e.g., Arechavaleta 1905, Spegazzini 1905, 1925, Pontes et al. 2017). This led to publications of names based on plants grown under greenhouses conditions. Moreover, these names, although nomenclaturally valid, were often poorly described and usually no type was designated (see e.g., Haworth 1812, Pfeiffer 1837, Salm-Dyck 1850).

Cloutier, Louis-Martin.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study describes the reconstruction and embelleshment period of parish churches in 3 Savoy dioceses in 19th century. If urban edifices are well known, rural churches have seldom been studied. Choosing Savoy enables us to detect or deny the particularisms of a border area which moreover changes nationality within a century. Those three dioceses also enable us to stress the comparison between a mountainous and a plain area. The study starts with concordat. Savoy is franch at the time. The empire lists the sate of cult edifices. Then reconstruction starts under the Sardinian restoration (1815-1860) to increase with the re-attachement of Savoy to France. Our investigations end in 1905 with the end of both concordat period and edification movement. We draw up histogrammes and constructions maps before wondering about the origin of this reconstruction be they mentioned or real. At this stage, we are describing the state of previous churches. The financial aspect if part of a detailed study. The account documents, numerous in local and parish archives wich have been our main source of investigation apart from visits on sites, had never been explored previously: cost of churches and ornementation, financial partners. The second part deals with architecture and designers. We analyse the evolution of styles and reject the notion of a “Sardinian style”. Savoy presents very few stylistic particularism; we inderline the importance of the religious authorities concerning the plans and the place of the steeple. The edifice is also studied as part of new urbanistic conceptions in the 19th century and the idea of modernity. Only the ornemental aspect, giving substance to the edifice (mural painting, stained glass windows) and the artists fall within the scope of this thesis. The furniture, just mentioned, will be studied in further study. Savoy isn't concerned with French debate on mural painting: linked for its techniques, iconography and authors to the Italian tradition. In this field tradition is more important than modernity witch prevailed in architecture. Stained glass windows, a new ornementing element, totally imported, spreads throughout Savoy later because of transport difficulties and the attachment to paintings, which will yet be surpassed

Abstract:
Canvassing the emotions examines the role and meaning of artmaking in the lives of women who have experienced mental ill-health and/or psychological trauma in Australia between the 1950s and the present. Hovering at the nexus of a number of contested domains, the thesis bypasses the perennial question of what is art to explore the neglected and perhaps more interesting query – what does art do for the artmaker? – and associated questions of why does art matter; what is the function of artmaking in relation to wellbeing; and what are the implications of a thwarted life of making? The thesis presents the findings of three studies: The Exhibition – a touring exhibition of art produced by women with an experience of mental ill-health; The Interviews – with thirty-two women who make art and who have experienced mental ill-health; and The Collage – a collation of women’s accounts of – what does art do?

Abstract:
Agriculture is the mainstay of more than 70% of India’s more than 1 billion population. Indian agriculture is predominantly rain-fed and depends on the spatial and temporal distribution of rains from southwest (June– September) and northeast (October–December) monsoons. A monsoon refers to seasonal alteration of atmospheric flow. The Indian subcontinent is predominantly characterized by a tropical monsoon climate, where climatic regimes are governed by rainfall rather than by temperature. The southwest monsoon accounts for 70–90% of the annual rainfall. The Technical Committee on Drought Prone Areas Program (DPAP) and the Desert Development Program (DDP) identified about 120 million ha of the country’s land spread in 185 districts as drought prone (DPAP/DDP,1994). Though the country as a whole receives an average annual rainfall of 1100 mm, the arid regions receive between 100 and 500 mm, and semiarid regions receive between 350 and 1500 mm of rainfall. Arid and semiarid regions of the country experience frequent droughts. The arid region in Rajasthan state produces 76% of pearl millet production of the country, but the average productivity is only 267 kg/ha for the whole of Rajasthan compared to 452 kg/ha for the country. Drought frequency is once in 2.5 years in arid zones and once in 4 years in semiarid regions (table 23.1). India experienced droughts in 1792, 1804, 1812–13, 1833–34, 1838– 39, 1848–49, 1850–51, 1853–54, 1868–69, 1877, 1891, 1896, 1899, 1905, 1911, 1915, 1918, 1920, 1941, 1951, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1974, 1979, 1982, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1999, and 2000. A higher frequency of drought occurred during 1891 –20, 1965–90, 1997 –2000, and 2002. The main food crops affected by drought are rice, wheat, pearl millet, sorghum, and pegion pea that are grown during southwest monsoon season under rain-fed conditions. Legumes and pulses, which are short-duration crops, are less affected. Persistent droughts cause crop failures and lead to acute shortage of food, fodder, and water (for drinking or irrigation), affecting human and livestock health. During drought years, people and livestock in the arid parts of Rajasthan migrate to neighboring states in search of food, fodder, drinking water, and employment.

Abstract:
Anatomical constructions are the important point in creating a sculptural portrait. The academic school of modelling, as well as modernist tendencies can be tested in the work of Alexandru Plămădeală (1888—1940). A severe anatomical interpretation also characterized the creativity of Lazăr Dubinovschi (1910—1982). Already in a series of works, dedicated to colleagues in the workshop (1968—1979), Lazăr Dubinovschi realized the prevalence of the inner world in the portrait, which contributed to the modeling of the anatomical features of the portrayed people. Claudia Cobizev (1905—1995) went through a good school, which helped to update the anatomical structures in the female portrait. Dumitru Rusu-Scvorţov (1926—1991) is a good connoisseur of anatomy in sculptural portraits of famous people. Alexandra Picunov-Târţău (1928—2002) conveys the secrets of the images she creates through the laconicism of anatomical features in the portraits of her colleagues (1972—1981). Brunhilda Epelbaum-Marcenco (b. 1927) experiments with color in the portrait genre. The work of Yuri Kanashin (b. 1939) contains a whole range of modeling between realistic and stylized interpretation in portraits of great personalities. Sculptor Constantin C. Constantinov (b. 1943) introduces anatomical constructions in portraits of elderly people (1985—1989). Portraits of Dumitru Verdianu (b. 1954) contain, in addition to anatomical structures, both impressionist and modernist interpretations (1982—1989). The minimalism and conceptualism of Ion Bolocan (b. 1961) reduces anatomical constructions to external forms, displaced and extracted. Anatomical constructions have always contributed to lifelikeness and plastic expression in the portrait.
