Cette recherche doctorale étudie les politiques mises en oeuvre par la papauté pour répondre aux défis lancés par la révolution russe. Cette dernière est envisagée autant comme un phénomène intérieur, modifiant les conditions dexistence du catholicisme en Russie, que comme un événement de portée mondiale qui jette sur les routes de l'exode de nombreux réfugiés tout en cherchant à s'étendre dans l'élan de la révolution mondiale. Chronologiquement, l'étude aborde donc une large séquence, qui dépasse les événements de 1917, pour embrasser les profonds changements tant politiques qu'économiques ou culturels qui affectent la Russie de la révolution de 1905 au pacte germano-soviétique (1939). L'étude, fondée sur les archives vaticanes, s'intéresse au traitement des affaires russes au sein de la Curie romaine, de la collecte de l'information au sujet de la Russie aux mécanismes de prise de décision, du domaine diplomatique (négociations officielles ou officieuses avec les représentants russes puis soviétiques) à la création et à la diffusion de dévotions (mouvement de prière catholique pour la Russie). Le croisement avec d'autres sources d'archives publiques (russes et françaises notamment), privées (congrégations) et d'imprimés, permet d'aborder la réception des actions vaticanes pour la Russie, ainsi que les relais utilisés par le Saint-Siège pour diffuser ses projets pour la Russie et les Russes

Pro gradu -tutkielmani aiheena on Metsähallituksen Ranuan hoitoalueen historia vuosina 1905–1939. Ranuan hoitoalue erotettiin vuonna 1905 Iin ja Simon hoitoalueista, yhtä aikaa Ylisimon hoitoalueen kanssa. Hoitoalueen perustamisen syinä olivat halu pienentää hoitoalueiden kokoa, kasvava metsätalous ja tarve saada kruununmetsät parempaan valvontaan. Vuonna 1923 Ranuan ja Ylisimon hoitoalueet yhdistettiin yhdeksi hoitoalueeksi. Yhdistymisen myötä hoitoalueen pinta-ala kaksinkertaistui, kattaen näin 290 000 hehtaarin alueen. Hoitoalueiden yhdistyminen oli merkittävin muutos, joka hoitoaluetta ja sen toimintaa kohtasivat tutkimusaikana.
Tutkimuksellani olen halunnut selvittää Metsähallituksen vaikutusta alueen maan ja metsien käyttöön, valvontatyön tehokkuutta sekä metsähallinnon toimia osana ympäröivää yhteisöä. Tutkimukseni keskiössä on Metsähallituksen rooli ja toiminta. Päälähteenäni käytän Ranuan hoitoalueen arkistomateriaalia, jota säilytetään Oulun maakunta-arkistossa. Tutkimusta täydentämään olen käyttänyt myös Metsähallituksen muiden organisaatioiden ja Ranuan kunnan arkistoa. Painettuina lähteinä olen käyttänyt Suomen tilastollista vuosikirjaa sekä Suomen kruununmetsien metsänhoitajille tarkoitettua käsikirjaa vuodelta 1910. Tutkimus perustuu laadulliseen tutkimukseen sekä tilastolliseen esittämiseen. Laajan virallisen kirjemateriaalin ja kertovan aineiston perusteella luon kuvaa metsähallinnon virallisista toimista Ranuan hoitoalueella.
Metsähallitus rajoitti alueen väestön perinteistä metsien käyttöä. Näkyvä puuttuminen metsien luvattomaan käyttöön eli haaskaukseen ja perinteisen puukaupan rajoittaminen jättivät jälkensä yhteisön ja metsähallinnon suhteisiin. Metsähallintoa leimasi toiminta lakien ja asetusten mukaan. Tämä vaikutti suuresti ihmisten kuvaan Metsähallituksesta. Aluemetsänhoitajat tiedostivat alueen väestön heikot elinolosuhteet ja pyrkivät toimillaan vaikuttamaan yhteisen edun toteutumiseen. Metsähallitus oli myös Ranuan kunnan suurin veronmaksaja. Ensimmäiset kaksi vuosikymmentä Metsähallitus toimi pelkästään puiden myyjänä. Omien hankintahakkuiden alkamisesta vuonna 1926 seurasi se, että valtiosta tuli nopeasti ainut hoitoalueen metsissä hakkuita suorittanut taho. Hakkuumäärät valtion mailla kasvoivat 1920-luvulla suunnitelluista jopa kaksinkertaisiksi.
Valtionmaiden asutustoiminta heikensi 1920- ja 1930-luvuilla Metsähallituksen toimintaedellytyksiä. Aluemetsänhoitajien päätavoite oli lisätä hoitoalueen metsien kysyntää. Tavoitteeseen päästiin vasta hankintahakkuilla ja Simojoen uitto-olosuhteiden parantamisen jälkeen.

Freud a parlé d'"histoire" selon plusieurs sens et perspectives. Si l'on retourne au texte freudien, si l'on suit simplement l'emploi que Freud fait du mot Geschichte, l'on constate que toutes sortes d'histoires - de malades, du développement, de la religion, de l'humanité - s'emboîtent, se superposent, sans s'annuler au fil de l'œuvre. Ces usages redondants, ces adjectifs, ces mots composés, nous permettent de découvrir certains enjeux et dimensions de la théorisation des psycho-névroses. Notamment, de constater l'importance de l'Entwicklungsgeschichte et de ses rejetons, dans leur rencontre avec les Krankengeschichten.

L'introduction pose une problématique basée sur un constat simple: la séparation des églises et de l'état, entérinée par le vote de la loi en 1905, a constitué un véritable bouleversement pour l'église catholique. Afin de remédier à cette situation, considérée comme néfaste par une majorité des membres du clergé, de nouvelles organisations apparaissent, animées par des clercs et des lai͏̈cs. La problématique de l'ouvrage consiste à analyser les rapports entre ces derniers, dans le cadre d'un diocèse, celui de Poitiers. Cette étude doit permettre de déceler les réactions de la base, peu étudiées jusqu'à maintenant. Apres une première partie qui fait une présentation démographique, économique, politique et religieuse du diocèse, compose des deux départements de la Vienne et des Deux-Sèvres, sont analysées successivement les organisations qui s'occupent de la défense religieuse, de la question sociale, de l'œuvre de presse, de la famille et de la jeunesse, et des amicales et mutuelles. Le bilan de cette étude fait apparaître quatre apports essentiels: - la singularité du diocèse de Poitiers dans le domaine de la presse et du syndicalisme enseignant. - les tensions dans les relations entre clercs et lai͏̈cs. - le rôle émergent des femmes dans les organisations. - la confirmation de l'hétérogénéité du diocèse<br>The introduction presents a theme based on the simple observation of a situation : the separation of the Church and the State, confirmed by the vote of the 1905 law, initiated a real disruption for the catholic church. In order to remedy this situation which was considered as harmful to a majority of the members of the Clergy, new organizations were born, run by clerics and laymen. The theme of the thesis consists of analyzing the relationships between these people in the diocese of Poitiers. This analysis enables the reader to understand their reactions, which have been scarcely studied so far. The first part presents the demographic, economical, political and religious situation of the diocese of Poitiers, in its two departments : Vienne and Deux-Sèvres. The next part of the thesis focuses on the organizations dea1ing with the religious defence, the social problem, the press publications, the family and the youth, the associations and the insurance companies. This analysis brings to the fore four essential facts : - The peculiarity of the diocese of Poitiers concerning the press and the teachers unions. - The tense relationships between clerics and laymen. - The rising part played by women in the organizations. - The different features of the diocese varying from one place to another

Cette thèse étudie l'histoire des femmes à travers un sport, la natation, en France. Le récit ordonné thématiquement se veut à la fois politique, social et culturel, des origines, marquées par la première participation d'une femme à une compétition de natation en 1905, à l'année 1939, synonyme de bouleversements en matière de politique sportive. L'analyse historique, basée sur de nombreux périodiques, ouvrages et sur quelques fonds d'archives, fait apparaître une ambivalence. Tour à tour, la pratique de la natation montre des signes émancipateurs à l'égard des femmes ( par exemple, les nageuses sont les premières à participer officiellement aux Jeux Olympiques, elles intègrent rapidement les institutions sportives françaises, les associations sportives de femmes voient naître une sociabilité émancipatrice ). Mais la natation peut se révéler conservatrice ( par exemple, marginalisation à l'intérieur des institutions, respect des normes de genre, mise à l'écart des femmes dans les innovations techniques ).

L'identite de l'auteur canetti apparait enigmatique, car il revendique a partir d'une meme legitimite, celle du "dichter", l'ensemble de son oeuvre, alors que, en principe, elle ressortit a deux domaines de souverainete distincts et meme opposes: la litterature et la connaissance theorique. L'optique de cette etude consiste a faire de l'identite enigmatique de canetti une question de place dans l'histoire intellectuelle europeenne en examinant quelles consequences il tire du fait qu'il vient apres freud, mais aussi apres nietzsche, avec qui il partage la critique de l'histoire et de la science de la nature. On trouve la trace de cet heritage dans son opposition constante a freud, qui concoit la psychanalyse comme l'application a l'homme interieur de l'esprit scientifique herite du xixeme siecle. L'opposition a freud permet de comparer canetti "dichter" a th. Mann, musil et broch, mais aussi ses principes de connaissance theorique a ceux de goethe dans la theorie des couleurs. Son utopie de la petitesse imaginee pour le "dichter" moderne ideal inverse, d'autre part, l'heritage de nietzsche dans ses consequences.

Kurt Gerstein entered the Waffen-SS in 1941 with the intention of working against the Nazi regime from the inside. Despite being required to participate in some of the criminal activities of the SS, Gerstein believed he could be most effective for the resistance if he remained in the SS. This thesis examines the evidence presented in and the results of three separate legal proceedings (a criminal trial, a Denazification hearing and a rehabilitation and compensation case) which took place in the 24 years following Gerstein's death in 1945. Each of the three proceedings was brought about for a different legal purpose, and therefore involved different laws and standards for judgment. However, all of the proceedings dealt with the problem of balancing the incriminating nature of Gerstein's means of resistance against what he had hoped to accomplish, or did accomplish, from that position.

Cette thèse porte sur les deux contextes historiques et nationaux de la philosophie contre-révolutionnaire (en France entre 1789 et 1830, en Russie entre 1905 et 1939). Dans son cheminement entre les deux contextes de la philosophie contre-révolutionnaire la pensée antimoderne et contre-révolutionnaire évolue, se réforme et se déforme, s'enrichissant d'éléments proprement «modernes ». Ainsi, pour ce qui est de la philosophie de l'histoire et de l'imaginaire palingénésique, elle tend à glisser d'une valorisation de l'ancien et de la tradition (chez De Maistre ou Bonald) à une revalorisation du nouveau et de la création (chez Berdiaev). Dans le domaine de la philosophie morale, l'on peut également noter une nette évolution, d'une logique pré-moderne de théodicée (qui tente de découvrir le bien sous le masque du mal) vers une logique moderne de critique (qui se méfie du «bien» humaniste et tend à voir, sous son : masque, un mal). Enfin, dans le domaine de la philosophie sociale, une sorte de greffe est opérée, et des éléments personnalistes sont intégrés au vieux fond de la pensée antimoderne, traditionnellement totalisante et holiste. Tels sont les divers signes de la greffe moderne sur la pensée antimoderne que nous nous sommes attachés à suivre tout au long cette thèse. Ces symptômes désignent également les constellations d'une modernité antimoderne, pointant en direction d'une critique de la modernité par la réflexion antimoderne qui, au fil de son évolution, n'a pas hésité à s'approprier et à reprendre à son compte les valeurs modernes de l'individu, de la liberté, de la nouveauté et de la critique<br>This thesis is focused on the two historical (and national contexts of the counter-revolutionary philosophy, in France between 1789 and 1830, and in Russia between 1905 and 1939. In this movement between the two contexts of the counter-revolutionary philosophy the anti-modern thinking has evolved, reformed and deformed, enriching itself with properly «modern» elements. In the field of the philosophy of history and palingenetic imaginary, it has been evolving from a focus put on the ancient and the tradition (by De Maistre or Bonald) to re-appreciation of the new, novelty and creation (by Berdiaev). In the field of the moral philosophy, a clear evolution can be observed from the pre-modem logic of theodicy (which aims at discovering good under the masque of evil) to the modern logic of critique (which distrusts humanist «good » and tries to discern evil behind its masque). Finally, in the field of the social philosophy, personalist elements are integrated into the anti-modern thinking, traditionally totalizing and holistic. These are signs of the modern grafting into the anti-modern thinking which we were following throughout this thesis. These symptoms also show constellations of an antimodern modernity, pointing at the critique of the modernity by the anti-modern reflection, which, in the course of its evolution, did not hesitate to recapture modern achievements of individuality, liberty, novelty and critique

Previous issue date: 2013<br>A proposta da nossa pesquisa é analisar a relação de sustentação recíproca entre filosofia e literatura em Sartre por via da leitura dos textos filosóficos e das obras de ficção A náusea e O muro, observando no pensamento de juventude de Sartre a predominância da questão ética. Relacionando filosofia e literatura, almejamos, desta forma, esclarecer as correspondências e os entrelaces dos questionamentos éticos que unem o plano teórico e a investigação sobre a concretude da vida humana, ambos, instrumentos interdependentes de um projeto filosófico-literário de fundo ético. Observaremos também as condições éticas do compromisso histórico que se estabelece por via do engajamento do escritor: compromisso recíproco assumido entre o escritor e o leitor a partir da liberdade situada.

La these porte sur la guerre de 1939-40 vue par gracq, malraux, saint-exupery et sartre. Sont comparees les oeuvres suivantes : un balcon en foret, le prologue et l'epilogue des noyers de l'altenburg, pilote de guerre et la mort dans l'ame. Quatre intellectuels combattants analysent la drole de guerre et la debade en france. Temoins et acteurs du conflit, les auteurs utilisent le monologue interieur qui leur permet d'alterner les registres familiers et poetiques, realistes et lyriques, voire epiques. A l'exception de julien gracq qui privilegie les notations sensorielles et adopte une attitude distante face aux evenements, les ecrivains se situent dans un courant de litterature engagee. Les travaux evoquent les themes abordes dans les ouvrages (psychologie des soldats, souffrance des hommes, aspect technique, immersion dans la nature, relation entre l'armee et les civils, regard sur l'exode) et les idees developpees par les auteurs (considerations politiques et philosophiques sur la guerre, humanisme, notions d'absurde et de liberte notamment).

Em 1936, teve início, na Espanha, a Guerra Civil Espanhola, que colocou em combate a direita, a qual lutava pela permanência da monarquia, e as distintas vertentes esquerdistas, que almejavam a instalação do Regime Republicano e a modernização do país. Os países latino-americanos viveram situações análogas de luta pela modificação governamental e pela concessão de direitos aos proletários. A grande maioria das tentativas foi infrutífera, como é o caso do Brasil, com a Coluna Prestes e a Intentona Comunista. Por isso, muitos brasileiros, que tinham inclinação republicana, se solidarizaram com a causa dos vermelhos espanhóis e se alistaram como voluntários das Brigadas Internacionais. Esse foi o caso da personagem Vasco Bruno, do romance Saga, de Erico Verissimo, que se destinou à Espanha para auxiliar a República. Durante o período que permaneceu na Espanha, e depois de retornar ao Brasil, Vasco escreve um romance, como forma de catarse para seus traumas e culpas, em que relata os motivos que o levaram a se alistar, as suas tentativas de esquecer o passado para suportar o ambiente hostil da guerra, os acontecimentos trágicos da guerra e, ademais, a sua volta ao Brasil e como era a vida para um intelectual militante. Dessa forma, a presente pesquisa, de caráter bibliográfico, analisa a formação da Memória Cultural da Guerra Civil Espanhola a partir da perspectiva de um voluntário brasileiro, além de verificar a concepção histórica que permeia o romance Saga. Para isso, são utilizados os pressupostos teóricos de Henri Bergson, Sigmund Freud, Harald Weinrich, Jan Assmann, Paul Ricouer, Walter Benjamin e Martin Heidegger. Dans l’univers fictionnel, à la fois sombre et comique, de Henry Green, les personnages sont isolés, coupés des autres et d’eux-mêmes, enfermés dans leur propre corps et leur conscience, mais aspirent malgré tout à fonder une famille et appartenir à une communauté. De son côté, la communauté existe essentiellement sous forme de fantasme ou dans les discours publics, mais son pouvoir normatif n’en reste pas moins dangereux, car le groupe détruit l’individualité et exige que l’on se conforme à ses règles, que l’on adopte ses valeurs et que l’on accomplisse ses rituels dépourvus, chez Green, de sens. Pendant la Deuxième guerre mondiale, moment où Green écrit ses romans les plus aboutis, l’impératif d’appartenir à une communauté nationale réduit au silence les voix personnelles et substitue à l’expérience privée un récit collectif issu des presses de la propagande. Entrer dans l’histoire revient à se renier en tant qu’individu, à se taire : la destruction de l’intimité, le silence, l’oubli menacent les personnages greeniens. Le conflit entre une volonté de s’affirmer en tant qu’individu et un désir de se fondre dans la masse se reflète dans l’esthétique atypique de Green, qui se nourrit des topoi littéraires de son époque tout en se démarquant du traitement qu’en font ses contemporains. L’écriture se fait intertextuelle, plurielle, idiosyncratique, alors que le romancier mêle accents régionaux et langue archaïque, emprunte des idiomes à des langues vernaculaires et littéraires, divisée et fragmentée, lorsqu’il décrit les effets de la guerre sur la psyché<br>In the dark and comical fictional world of Henry Green, the characters are isolated, cut off from themselves and from others, locked into their own body and mind, but they nevertheless yearn to build a family and to belong to a community. As far as communities are concerned, they exist solely in the characters’ fantasms or in public discourses, but their normative power remains dangerous: groups destroy individuality and demand that members conform to collective rules and adopt the same values. They require that one participate in rituals that are, in Green’s novels, deprived of any meaning. During the Second World War, when Green writes his best novels, belonging to a national community becomes compulsory. This silences personal voices and substitutes a collective narration written by British propaganda to private experience. Entering history means that individuals should not contradict the official version and have to deny themselves: the destruction of intimacy, silence and forgetting therefore threaten Green’s characters. The conflict between a will to establish oneself as an individual and the desire to melt into masses is reflected in Green’s atypical esthetic, which feeds on literary commonplaces of the times while setting itself apart from the meanings normally attached to them. The writing is characterized by intertextuality. La réception de Sartre en Chine n'est pas une simple affaire littéraire : c'est plutôt un sous-produit du processus de la modernisation de la Chine depuis la guerre de l'Opium (1840-1842). Au fur et à mesure, l'Occident est devenue la référence principale de la modernisation chinoise pour la plupart de l'élite chinoise. Depuis la fin du XIXe siècle, les intellectuels chinois ont cherché avec enthousiasme les inspirations et les " nouveautés " en Occident. Les mutations rapides et radicales ont eu lieu dans tous les domaines de la société chinoise. Déterminés par les situations particulières et concrètes, les perspectives et l'horizon d'attente de plusieurs générations de lecteurs chinois ont été modifiés et modelés successivement par les changements politiques, sociaux et culturels. Cinquante ans de la réception de Sartre en Chine peut se diviser en trois périodes : réception immédiate (1939-1949), réception réduite (1949-1976) et réception réanimée (1977-1989). Au début, Sartre n'a été découvert et apprécié que par un petit cercle d'intellectuels chinois. Mais l'expansion remarquable de l'existentialisme en Occident au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale a suscité une vogue de Sartre dans le milieu littéraire chinois. Malgré la visite amicale de Sartre en Chine (1955), la connaissance des Chinois sur sa pensée et ses œuvres a été très réduite à l'époque de Mao. A l'Epoque Nouvelle, Sartre était un des écrivains-penseurs occidentaux les plus lus par les jeunes Chinois. Et la plupart de ses œuvres littéraires et philosophiques et beaucoup d'articles et d'ouvrages sur Sartre ont été publiés à cette époque<br>The reception of Sartre isn't a simple literary affaire: it is rather an underproduction of the process of the modernisation of China since the war of the Opium (1840-1842). The Occident has become gradually the main reference of the Chinese modernisation for the majority of the elite of China. The Chinese intellectuals have searched with passion the inspirations and the "new ideas" in Occident. The rapid and radical changes have taken place in every domain of the Chinese society. Determined by the particular and concrete situations, the perspectives and the horizon of waiting of several generations of Chinese readers have been modified and shaped successively by the political, social and cultural changes. We could divide fifty years of the reception of Sartre in China into three periods: the immediate reception (1939-1949), the reduced reception (1949-1976) and the revived reception (1977-1989). At the beginning, Sartre was discovered and appreciated only by several Chinese intellectuals. But the remarkable expansion of the existentialism in Occident after the Second World War has provoked a vogue of Sartre in the Chinese literary circle. In spite of Sartre's friendly visit of China (1955), the knowledge of the Chinese to his thought and his works has been much reduced during the age of Mao Zedong. Sartre was one of the Western writers-thinkers the most read by the young Chinese of the New Age. Prior to the beginning of the Second World War discussions of air force training
between Britain and Canada, were ongoing, but never agreed upon. The declarations of war
on Germany from Britain and Canada forced these discussions to a resolution as the air force
was a crucial component of military operations. On December 17, 1939 the agreement known
as the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) was signed. The agreement
intended that Canada would train all of the Allied air force throughout the war. The
repercussions of the agreement meant that communities across the country became home to
training schools and air force personnel. This study employs geographic and relational
aspects of community theory in the investigation of the role of sport in the relationship
building process between military and civilian communities in Southern Alberta. Sport
provided common ties and opportunities for social interaction in the relationship-building
process between BCATP schools and Southern Alberta communities. Towns were losing
many of the men and women who were playing sport as they joined the services and air force
personnel were replacing them; thereby keeping sport at all levels from completely shutting
down during the war. This study highlights the changes in the sporting landscape as military
sport transitioned from a spectacle to becoming indispensable to local communities. Specific
case studies of basketball and lacrosse in Macleod, hockey in Claresholm and Lethbridge,
soccer in Medicine Hat and sporting charity events indicate the depth to which schools
integrated into towns through sport. Situated within pertinent secondary sources from history,
sociology and sport studies this study draws on six Southern Alberta newspapers, town
council meeting minutes and archival data from the Nanton Bomber Museum, The

Cette thèse de doctorat entreprend de démêler, à travers l'étude du contexte littéraire et politique de l'époque, les différents enjeux qui gravitent autour de ces récits.

Le communisme en France est né d'une entreprise de régénération révolutionnaire du socialisme engagée par une jeune relève militante au sortir de la Grande Guerre, sous l'influence du bolchevisme arrivé au pouvoir en Russie en 1917. Mieux à notre sens que les arguments de la greffe et de l'accident d'Annie Kriegel, l'hypothèse de la régénération de l’idéal et des pratiques socialistes éclaire d'une manière renouvellée la création en France d’un nouveau type d’organisation révolutionnaire au prix du sacrifice de l’unité socialiste. Notre lecture s’appuie sur le triptyque formé par les concepts de régénération, d’ascétisme et de relève : ensemble, ils permettent de saisir la dynamique de la triple relève des hommes, des principes et des attitudes de vie socialistes qui préside à la naissance de la SFIC. Cet élan régénérateur suscité par la guerre ne peut cependant être appréhendé que dans la continuité des principes et des pratiques du mouvement ouvrier avant 1914. Le communisme puise en particulier dans le très riche imaginaire ouvriériste du mouvement ouvrier organisé français avant 1914, mais aussi dans toute la gamme des pratiques sacrificielles qu’il a inventées pour garantir la fidélité de ses membres. C’est dans la guerre pourtant que s’enracine cette aspiration forte, nourrie de la « trahison » d’août 1914 et réclamée par la dissolution de l'identité socialiste dans la rhétorique patriotique. L'histoire de la scission est indissociable de celle de la minorité de guerre. La scission de 1920 engage pour elle une nouvelle histoire : celle de la création d’un parti et de pratiques politiques inédites qui ont dès 1921 doté le Parti communiste de sa radicale originalité<br>The creation of the French Communist Party in 1920 can be considered part of a decisive “time of split-ups” in post-war European socialism. It gave birth to a radically new type of party-form. The militant revolution that the communists called for can be regarded as a successful political “relief” operation : a new generation of young militants, financed and backed up in its rise by the Communist International, plain in its rejection of war and united by shared sociological caracteristics, was quickly carried to the head of these movements in an exceptional historical context. These militants despised the old “socialist” order and its oligarchs and called for a complete rejuvenation, a profound regeneration of socialist ideals and political practices. Considered from the French point of view, the stages and consequences of this Europe-wide crisis are central to the understanding of the general turmoil of the interwar years. This revolution will be scrutinized here through the concept of regeneration and of revolutionary asceticism, which imposed itself in the new Communist party in the beginning of the 1920s. Born from the rejection of the "treason" of august 1914, the will to regenerate socialism roots itself in workerism and ascetical practices peculiar to the French Labor movement before 1914. Entre 1905 et 1908, la branche cinematographique de la societe pathe (plus exactement la compagnie generale de phonographes, cinematographes et appareils de precision) connait une forte industrialisation. Ce phenomene se traduit notamment par la maitrise de l'integralite de la chaine de production : pathe se met a fabriquer sa propre pellicule, a salarier ses metteurs en scene, a controler le tournage, a developper ses films, a les colorier et a s'occuper de leur exploitation, par l'ouverture de salles fixes, le passage a la location et la creation de societes concessionnaires. Ce n'est la qu'un aspect d'une strategie economique globale qui ne se percoit clairement qu'a la lumiere du contexte concurrentiel. Exposee a des compagnies rivales de plus en plus ambitieuses, pathe tente de proteger sa situation oligopolistique. Pour ce faire, elle opere un passage a la production de masse, en meme temps qu'une diversification des genres abordes par ses films. Elle envahit le marche, tant quantitativement que qualitativement. Devant le cout exorbitant de cette politique, elle met en place une organisation sociale qui vise a verrouiller au maximum le mode de production des films. Les phases de controle se multiplient, en meme temps que s'instaure une hierarchie rigide. Tout est prevu pour laisser le moins de place possible a l'improvisation et aux initiatives des metteurs en scene. Les consignes de tournage sont strictes et determinees a l'avance : les scenarios sont concus comme les fiches de fabrication de l'industrie traditionnelle. Une methode d'enregistrement, imposant des contraintes de creation, est elaboree. A tel point que les films conserves aujourd'hui en portent encore les traces, definissant ainsi implicitement le style pathe. Plus que ceux des autres editeurs, les films pathe se caracterisent donc par l'inscription de l'economique dans l'esthetique, c'est-a-dire par les consequences, dans leurs choix artistiques, de l'industrialisation du mode de production.

Les enquêtes religieuses réalisées après la Seconde Guerre mondiale soulignent le dynamisme du diocèse d’Annecy. Toutefois, aucune étude n’a été menée jusqu’à présent sur le sujet. C’est pourquoi il semble intéressant d’étudier son évolution entre la Séparation (1905) et le Concile Vatican II (1962) par une démarche monographique. Cette longue durée, couvrant intégralement trois épiscopats, permet ainsi une meilleure appréciation de l’évolution du diocèse dans sa pratique, mais également dans sa vitalité religieuse. La mise en place de la loi de Séparation pose un certain nombre de problèmes, mais donne également l’occasion de souligner le « catholicisme bleu » du diocèse. Les laïcs apparaissent alors sur le devant de la scène, favorisant ainsi l’éclosion des mouvements d’action catholique qui progressent tout au long de la période, et ce malgré les deux guerres mondiales. Ils contribuent ainsi à entretenir le dynamisme diocésain même si le rôle des évêques et du clergé ne doit pas être négligé. Cet élan ne doit toutefois pas faire oublier les tensions qui apparaissent autour d’un certain nombre de mouvements et des enjeux politiques. Entre 1939 et 1945, le diocèse se distingue par le rôle d’un certain nombre de ses prêtres qui apportent leur aide à la Résistance, tout comme les laïcs nombreux à rejoindre les rangs de l’armée des Ombres, mais également par l’assassinat de prêtres accusés de collaboration.Les vocations sont un centre d’intérêt constant tout au long de la période et les efforts menés dès le début de l’étude permettent au diocèse de ne pas connaître trop rapidement la crise du sacerdoce. Les années d’après-guerre sont tournées à la fois vers les vocations, l’école libre, qui reste un sujet de préoccupation, mais aussi vers les nouvelles formes de la pastorale. La mise en place de ces dernières sont concomitantes des enquêtes de sociologie et des missions régionales qui permettent d’obtenir une photographie du diocèse à la veille du Concile<br>The religious surveys made after the Second World War stress the dynamism of the Diocese of Annecy. However this matter has not been examined until now. That is why it seems interesting to study its evolution between the separation of Church and State (1905) and Council Vatican II (1962) using a monographic approach.The enforcement of the Law of " Separation" raised some problems but also gave the opportunity to stress " The Blue Catholicism " of the diocese. As a consequence, Laymen appeared on the Front of the Stage, inducing the rising of Catholic movements which grew throughout this period inspire of the two World Wars. This helped to maintain the dynamism of the Diocese thought the part played by the bishops and the clergy must not be forgotten. However, inspire of the impulse, we can notice a tension between catholic movements and political stakes. Between 1939 and 1945, we must remember the part played by several priests who helped the French Resistance movement. Numerous laymen joined The " Army of the Shadows " and some priests suspected of being collaborationists were murdered. Throughout this period, the efforts made from the beginning of the study, allowed the diocese not to know too quickly the Crisis of priesthood related with calls to the Church. After the war, these were the main concerts as well as religious schools and the news forms of the Pastoral concomitant with sociological surveys and local missions which gives us a photography of the diocese on the eve of the Council

Il s'agit ici d'interroger la singularité d'une identité modelée par l'expérience de la Résistance, à travers l'ensemble formé par trois mouvements de résistance non communistes de la zone sud fondés en 1941 (Combat, Libération Sud et Franc-Tireur), regroupés en 1943 dans les Mouvements Unis de Résistance (MUR), puis en 1944 dans le Mouvement de Libération nationale (MLN). Ce cadre d'étude permet la multiplication des angles d'observation, et le choix dune démarche comparative rend compte de la diversité des composantes, des ancrages géographiques, des préoccupations et des vécus. Une place particulière est accordée au parcours d'Alban Vistel : responsable de Libération-Sud à Vienne puis chef régional des MUR, sa personnalité imprègne l'histoire des mouvements unis de la région de Lyon. L'approche par le détour de l'identité rompt avec la vision d'une Résistance conçue comme un bloc et confirme l'idée d'un édifice en construction. Entre 1941 et le début de 1943, c'est par référence à l'entité "mouvements" que s'exprime l'appartenance identitaire. Par la suite, jusqu'à la Libération, cette identité de groupe se transforme en identification totale à l'idée "Résistance". La pluralité des services et des lieux de résistance diversifie les modes d'appropriation de l'expérience et donne à cette identité résistante son caractère multidimensionnel. Quelques grands éléments constitutifs, inégalement mais peu à peu partagés, structurent la singularité de la Résistance : Témoignage, appropriation du temps, dimension légendaire, responsabilité sociale et élitisme, idéal unitaire, identification à la France comme idée, éthique de l'action.

En consommant ces œuvres, le récepteur exorcise la violence propre à la guerre en opposant à la négation de l'autre propre à Auschwitz, lequel emblématise la guerre, l'avènement d'une entité autre surgissant de la perception conditionnée par ces œuvres. Une telle " altérisation " perceptive repose sur un fonctionnement contradictoire de la perception, qui s'effectue tout en s'auto-déconstruisant, et qui brouille la réception. Après avoir en une première partie posé les fondements théoriques de l'approche, et cerné la spécificité de la musique et du langage en s'appuyant sur une critique des rapprochements effectués entre eux, on analyse l'agencement d'exorcisme à proprement parler, en décrivant, en une deuxième partie, sa manifestation fondamentale, le brouillage. On détermine les sources sémiotiques spécifiquement langagières et musicales de ce brouillage, et on montre son pouvoir de déstructuration de la perception et de désimplication sur le récepteur. Le brouillage est ainsi défini comme agencement monstrueux. La dernière partie réinsère cet agencement local dans l'agencement général d'exorcisme. Ce brouillage peut en effet se muer en altérisation, la lecture de la métaphore se transformant en création d' hétéro-univers de croyance, le paradoxe en hétéro-doxe, quand l'écoute s'opère selon des repères marginaux par rapport aux attentes. S'ensuit enfin une modélisation générale de l'agencement d'exorcisme comme mécanisme de substitution de l'autre à soi, comme contre-violence à l'Histoire<br>The objective of this work is to circumscribe an "agencement" (arrangement) of specific art: the exorcism produced on a receiver by musical or poetical works from the Second World War and the immediate after-war period by R. Char, H. Michaux, O. Messiaen et A. Jolivet. When encountering these works, the receiver exorcises the war-related violence by confronting the negation of the other characterising Auschwitz with the advent of another entity rising from the perception conditioned by these works. Such a perceptive "alterisation" rests on a contradictory functioning of perception, which de-constructs itself whilst happening, and which blurs perception. In a first part, we set the theoretical basis for our approach, by encircling the specificity of music and language based on a criticism of association usually made between both of them. We then analyse the mere "agencement" of exorcism by describing its fundamental manifestation - the process of "brouillage" (confusion) - in a second part. We define the semiotic sources for this process which are specific to language and music, as well as its manifestation more distinctively perceptive in both systems, through its power of de-construction and des-involvement. That way, we manage to define the "brouillage" as a monstrous "agencement". The last part of this work is dedicated to the reinsertion of this "agencement" into the more general "agencement" of exorcism. We show how the "brouillage" can change to "alterisation", with the reading of metaphor itself changing into the creation of a hetero-universe of belief, and the paradox into "hetero-dox", when listening operates along benchmarks which are marginal compared to expectations. To conclude, we propose a general modelling of the "agencement" of exorcism as a way of substituting to the other, as a challenge to the violence of History

This dissertation examines the first three decades of a missionary encounter that began under the auspices of the Congo Inland Mission (CIM – later renamed as Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission [AIMM]) in Belgian Congo. As Africans, North Americans, and Europeans entered into relationship with each other through mission, they developed an identity as global Mennonites. They began to embrace a catholic ecclesial imagination – that is, a commitment to shared membership within the church as a political body capable of transcending competing claims of race, ethnicity, gender, or nation-state. Using both an ecclesiological lens of analysis and a global history framework, this dissertation traces the ways in which ecclesial institutions, practices, discourses, and performances functioned to support or undermine a social imagination that embraced expatriate missionaries and local believers within a single church, in both its local/congregational and trans-local manifestations.
During the period covered by the dissertation, expatriate and Congolese Mennonites struggled to define what the church was, and to determine who could participate in it and how. Factors that helped to promote a shared ecclesial imagination among Congolese and expatriate believers included an inter-denominational vision, faith mission principles and practices, Pentecostal revivalism, a Mennonite congregational polity, shared experiences of work and worship, and friendships that crossed boundaries of race and gender. However, CIM missionaries’ assertions of ethnic Mennonite control over mission strategy and structure, and their complicity with colonial labor exploitation, promoted a two-tiered understanding of the church that entrenched racial segregation and squelched the aspirations of white missionary women and Congolese evangelists. An ecclesiological lens of analysis thus offers new insights into the relationship between missions and colonial regimes, into the role of mission in American Mennonite denominational formation, and into the interactions among gender, race, and ethnicity in mission.
The dissertation traces the contested memories of early CIM “pioneers,” such as Alma Doering, Aaron and Ernestina Janzen, and L.B. and Rose Haigh, and retrieves the missional agency of the many Congolese Mennonites who worked alongside them. In this way, it both uncovers the struggles for catholicity that shaped the missionary encounter at its inception, and calls attention to the ways in which such struggles continue to play out on the terrain of memory and knowledge production, coming to light through the competing efforts and uneven ability of Congolese and North American Mennonites to tell stories about their shared past. The historical narrative at the core of the dissertation thus serves as a case study for a broader exploration of theological and historiographical themes of memory and catholicity in relation to mission. The dissertation develops an ecclesiological framework for the study of the missionary encounter in which an explicit commitment to catholicity guides the task of writing world Christian history. It identifies ways in which such an ecclesiological mode of remembering can contribute to greater unity and catholicity within the global church.

Is there meaning in suffering or ts suffering only a soul-destroying experience from which nothing positive can emerge? In seeking to answer this question, a heuristic study was made of the experiences and views of
the famous Auschwitz survivor, Viktor Frankl, supplemented by an exploration of the life-worlds of
other Nazi concentration camp survivors. The underlying premise was that if meaning can be found in
the worst sufferings imaginable, then meaning can be found in every other situation of suffering.
Seeking to illuminate the views of Frankl and to gain a deeper grasp of the phenomenon of
suffering, the theoretical and personal views of mainstream psychologists regarding the nature of man
and the meaning of hi.~ sufferings were studied. Since the focus of this research was on the suffering of the Holocaust survivor, the Holocaust as the context of the present study, was studied as a crisis of meaning and as psychological adversity. In trying to establish the best way to gain entry into the life-world of the Holocaust survivor, the research methods employed in Holocaust survivor studies were reviewed and, for the purposes of
this study, found wanting. The choice and employment of a heuristic method yielded rich data which illuminated the fact that, through a series of heroic choices Frankl, and the survivors who became research participants,
could attain spiritual triumph in the midst of suffering caused by an evil and inhumane regime. Hitherto unexplored areas of psychological maturity were revealed by these heroes of suffering from which the following conclusions could be drawn:
Man attains the peaks of moral excellence through suffering. Suffering can have meaning.
Suffering can call us out of the moral apathy and mindlesness of mere existence.
The Holocaust, one of the most tragic events in human history, contains, paradoxically, a
challenge to humankind. Resisting the pressure to sink to the level of a brute fight for mere
survival, Frankl and the research participants continued to exercise those human values
important to them and triumphantly maintained their human dignity and self-respect. Evidence
