Abstract:
The weevil tribe Listroderini (Curculionidae: Cyclominae) was originally recognized for a group of New World taxa. During the last decades its concept was expanded, and additional new taxa were described from the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and the Tristan da Cunha-Gough islands. This checklist evaluates the nomenclatural status of all the generic and specific names applied to listroderines. A total of 407 species classified into 36 genera are recognized. The following synonymies are established: Gromilus insularis robustus Brookes, 1951 and G. insularis antipodarum Kuschel, 1964 = G. insularis Blanchard, 1853; Gromilus veneris setarius Broun, 1909 = G. veneris (Kirsch, 1877); and Listronotus oregonensis tessellatus Casey, 1895 = L. oregonensis (LeConte, 1876). Two secondary homonyms were detected and replacement names are proposed: Gromilus brounii for G. setosus (Broun, 1917 non Broun, 1893), and Gromilus kuschelii for G. striatus (Broun, 1921 non Broun, 1915).

Abstract:

Abstract:

Thesis, Paris Est, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PEST0041.

Full text
Abstract:
Simplicity is a fundamental principle of George Sand’s aesthetics. The taste for simplicity has also not only pervaded the writer’s life but her whole work, and notably the socialist and country novels (1840-1853) taking place in the Berry landscape. Our purpose is to analyse firstly, Sand’s concept of simplicity and the way she perceives nature, then simplicity as a component of humanity and finally simplicity revealing consummate artistry. Sand’s characters, either peasants or aristocrats sharing an idyllic life, often show this same psychological characteristic under different features: reject of affectedness, absence of duplicity, taste for naturalness and openness, longing for sublimity, innocence, ingenuousness, genuineness, naivety, etc.Aesthetically speaking, simplicity refers to all that is not composed, not prepared, and, positively, to that what is genuine, primitive, and elemental. Simplicity is also accomplished in any harmonious whole perceptible through synthetic intuition, like popular music pieces and naif works of art.Sand’s concept of simplicity also operates in other fields like rural customs and habits and society and politics, as we will show in our subsequent research

Thesis, Lyon, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019LYSE2003.

Full text
Abstract:
Titus Salt’s social experiment conducted through his model industrial community of Saltaire, in Yorkshire, has been perceived and presented this far as a solution to the contemporary issues resulting from rapid industrialisation. The aim of the present research is to put into context this experiment, started in 1853, within the wider social reform movement that occurred from 1850 to 1880 in Bradford- which we consider as the “mother town” of Saltaire. This study focuses on the various influences promoting the advancement of the factory workers’ conditions, such as social welfare concerns but also religious, political and economical pressures, in order to see their achievements on the urban life. This comparative study is aiming to demonstrate the extent to which the model village, under Titus Salt’s leadership, took part in the social reformation and in the progress of the worsted trade workers’ circumstances

Abstract:
Historians writing about the History of Venice have rarely dealt with or mentioned the year 1868: to trace this moment it is essential to make direct reference to the Gazzetta di Venezia of that same year. Another useful source is the diary of Elena Pesaro Maurogonato (1853-1876), daughter of Isacco Pesaro Maurogonato (1817-1892), a central figure in the Venetian Jewish community and an important political figure. Among the most important events are the celebrations in St. Mark’s Square on the occasion of the Carnival, the representations at the Teatro La Fenice and events related to the translation of Daniele Manin’s ashes. This essay also traces a portrait of the social situation in Venice, ranging from the identification of differences between social classes to the creation of the ‘myth of Venice’, a collective cultural identity resulting from the association of several popular traditions.
