Abstract:
AbstractOur paradigm for religion is Christianity, which appeared as a sub-society, the culture of which differed both from Jewish culture and from that of the Greeks and Romans. Human beings are essentially social, depending upon society for all rational thought and activity. As social beings we live with regard to customs we think good on the whole. Customs are rationalised by theoretical and moral beliefs. They contrast with nature and also with convention and habit. Religions, like families, are societies intermediate between individuals and states. So-called secular values concern the same things as religious and have comparable practical consequences.

Abstract:
This paper brings together literary, epigraphic and iconographic evidence for thevictimarii— the attendants responsible for slaughtering sacrificial animals in ancient Rome. It aims to explore the problematic status ofvictimariiin Roman society, and argues that the often hostile views of the aristocracy have led to the continued marginalisation of this prominent group within scholarly discussions of religion and society. It argues that when the various strands are considered together a far more positive view ofvictimariiwithin Roman society emerges, suggesting that this was in some respects one of the most respectable of professions among the slave and freedman communities.

Abstract:
The dramatic changes in the life of the twentieth-century society associated with the development of the information sphere led to the emergence of the concept of an information society, which has identified as the main factor of development the production and use of information. This concept is a variant of the theory of post-industrial society, based on Z. Brzezinski, D. Bell and O. Toffler. According to the latter, this society will emerge as the most technically advanced and at the same time as an anti-industrial civilization, which will bring with it a new code of conduct. The peculiarity of the information society was noted by N. Luman. "If the concept of society presupposes the central importance of domination or values," he notes, "in this case, not only the obvious regional diversity and complexity of communication, but also, first and foremost, the extent to which the" information society "decentralized but interconnected communication across the globe through its networks - a trend that will certainly only increase with the help of computerization in the near future"
