Thereby, the PCP pincer ligand system and the residue trans to the carbodiphosphorane (CDP) C atom surround the iridium(III) transition metal in the equatorial plane under the formation of two five-membered dissimilar chelate rings [C—CCDP—P (4, 5, 6 and 7) for the first ring: 120.2 (3), 121.9 (5), 111.2 (3) and 121.7 (2) °; for the second ring: 112.1 (3), 113.5 (5), 120.5 (3) and 108.3 (2)°]. A cyclopropane-like heterocycle is positioned approximately orthogonal (84.21–88.85°) to the equatorial plane, including an alkylidene bridge connecting the IrIII atom and the coordinating CDP atom of the PCP subunit. In general, the neutral PCCP ligand system coordinates the metal in a tetradentate way via three Lewis acid/base bonds and by an alkylidene unit presenting strengthened interactions. In all the crystal structures, (disordered) solvent molecules are present in the voids of the packed molecules that interact with the positively charged complex and its chloride counter-ion(s) through weak hydrogen bonding.

Abstract:
Abstract A pilot plant scale of SFE (steam flash explosion) chamber has been developed in order to process raw grobogan soybean. The objectives of this research were to study the physicochemical changes of soybean in term of reaction kinetics approach and to determine the optimal variables to produce high quality soybean. We used 2.5 kg and 5 kg of soybean, representing 75% and 50%, respectively, of headspace volume of SFE chamber. After soaking in the water, these soybeans were then treated using SFE chamber operated at temperature of 115 °C (P=1 bar), 125 °C (P=2 bar), and 135 °C (P=3 bar) and time interval of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes, after which the steam was suddenly released from the chamber to provide explosion effect. The treated soybean samples were then analyzed for hardness, color characteristics, urease index (UI), protein dispersibility index (PDI), and protein solubility index (PSI). The result showed that the decrease of hardness and b-value (yellowness) of soybean during processing can be explained by 1st order kinetic model. As for hardness, SFE gave kT=115°C=0.0344 minutes-1, kT=125°C=0.0495 minutes-1, kT=135°C=0.0864 minutes-1, and Ea=60.350 Kj.mol-1 (for 2.5 kg capacity); and kT=115°C=0.0314 minutes-1, kT=125°C=0.0442 minutes-1, and kT=135°C=0.0858 minutes-1, and Ea=66.009 Kj.mol-1 (for 5 kg capacity). As for b-value, SFE gave kT=115°C=0.0225 minutes-1, kT=125°C=0.0378 minutes-1, kT=135°C=0.0558 minutes-1, and Ea=59.873 Kj.mol-1 (for 2.5 kg capacity); and kT=115°C=0.0258 minutes-1, kT=125°C=0.0393 minutes-1, kT=135°C=0.0553 minutes-1, and Ea=64.544 Kj.mol-1 (for 5 kg capacity). The Ea for 5 kg capacity is higher than Ea for 2.5 kg capacity. This research found no appropriate reaction kinetics model for urease index, PSI, dan PDI. Soybean treated under 115 °C (1 bar) within 5 minutes for both capacities satisfy the processed soybean quality requiement.

Vinsky, M., Islam, K., Chen, L. and Li, C. 2013. Short Communication: Association analyses of a single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter of OLR1 with growth, feed efficiency, fat deposition, and carcass merit traits in hybrid, Angus and Charolais beef cattle. Can. J. Anim. Sci. 93: 193–197. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the promoter region of oxidized low density lipoprotein (lectin-like) receptor 1 (OLR1) (c. −495 T>C) was identified and analyzed for associations with 10 traits related to growth, feed efficiency, body fat deposition and carcass merit traits in hybrid (n=456), Angus (n=567) and Charolais (n=423) beef cattle populations. Significant allele substitution effect (P=0.023) was found for residual feed intake (RFI) in the Angus population. The allele “C”, which had a frequency of 0.24 in the Angus population, was associated with decreased RFI. The Angus steers with the “CC” genotype had a lower RFI value (i.e., more efficient) than the Angus steers carrying the ‘TT’ genotype. The SNP was also found to have significant dominance effects on final ultrasound rib-eye area (FUREA) (P=0.0004) and carcass rib-eye area (CREA) (P=0.009) in the Angus steer population. The Angus steers with the “CT” genotype had smaller rib-eye areas of both ultrasound and carcass measures than the average of the steers with the homozygous genotypes. However, the SNP did not show significant associations with the traits examined in either the hybrid or the Charolais steer population at P<0.05. OLR1 plays a role in lipid metabolism, and analyses of transcript binding site based on the transcription element search system revealed that the “T” allele of the c.-495T>C SNP introduces a presumptive binding site for CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPα). However, further investigation is required to delineate the possible regulatory role of the SNP on growth and efficiency of energy utilization in relation to different biological types of beef cattle.

Abstract:
As an integral aspect of our program to develop assisted reproductive technologies in tragelaphine antelopes, we have been evaluating the effects of various extenders on cryosurvival of spermatozoa. Semen was collected by electroejaculation (EEJ) from an eland (Taurotragus oryx, n = 14 EEJs) and a bongo (Tragelaphus euryceros, n = 7 EEJs) male during sedation and standing restraint in a hydraulic chute. Epididymal spermatozoa were collected from the proximal vas deferens, and distal epididymides recovered from four common eland bulls after elective castration at the Hattiesburg Zoo, Mississippi (age = 46 months) and the San Diego Wild Animal Park, California (ages = 18, 20, and 23 months). Testes from a bongo (age = 6.5 yr) and a greater kudu bull (Tragelaphus strepsiceros, age = 7.5 yr) at the Audubon Nature Institute were recovered and processed immediately postmortem. Kudu, bongo, and the Hattiesburg eland testes were transported at ambient temperature whereas the testes from San Diego elands were shipped overnight in a cold-pack container. Sperm processing was done at room temperature (RT = 23°C) in HEPES-buffered Tyrode's solution. Four extenders containing 7% glycerol were evaluated: Biladyl®, TEST Yolk buffer (TYB), Beltsville extender (BF5F), and skim milk. For freezing, sperm samples were initially extended and gradually cooled to 4°C before sequential addition of extender containing glycerol at 4°C; the procedure was then modified by addition of the glycerol fraction at RT before the sample was cooled to 4°C. Spermatozoa were vapor-frozen in 0.5 mL straws placed 5 cm above liquid nitrogen before storage at −196°C. Straws were thawed in a water bath (38°C, 30 s) to evaluate cryosurvival. All eland and bongo electroejaculation procedures produced spermatozoa, although sperm quality varied. Ejaculate volume averaged 5.4 ± 1.2 mL and 3.7 ± 1.1 mL in the bongo and the eland, respectively. Sperm motility at collection, after cooling, and after freezing in the different extenders is presented in Table 1. No immediate decline in sperm motility was observed after adding glycerol to samples, whether at 23°C or 4°C. Bongo spermatozoa lost more motility during freezing than during cooling (15.0 ± 4.4 vs. 5.8 ± 2.0%; P = 0.006); whereas, in eland, motility loss during cooling and freezing was similar (25.3 ± 16.2 vs. 21.1 ± 7.7; P = 0.44). The present results indicate that cooling and freezing tolerance of spermatozoa in tragelaphine antelopes is influenced by species, extender type, and temperature at which a cryoprotectant is added. Abstract:
The crystal structure of Nevanide (diethylammonium p-aminobenzoate) has been determined and refined to a residual R 0·055 for 2797 observed reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, space group C 2/c, with 32 ion pairs in a cell with dimensions a 29·510(6), b 17·150(1), c 20·473(5) Å, β 115·153(9)°. The structure is made up of a network of hydrogen-bonded ions; in this network the 4-aminobenzoate anions form a primary cyclic tetramer unit in which the amine groups of two residues are linked tail to tail through hydrogen bonds to single carboxylate oxygens of the other two residues. All oxygens are then linked peripherally to layers of diethylammonium cations by strong hydrogen bonding, with all possible hydrogen bonding sites utilized, giving a three-dimensional network array.

Abstract:
The dissertation argues that Ulster Catholic laity inhabited a social and cultural "frontier" through the early modern period. This mentality shaped how Ulster Catholics perceived and conceived their place and community in the rapidly changing religious, socio-economic and political situation in early modern Ulster (c.1680-1830). Though sectarian attitudes and violence are viewed as inherent in Ulster and Irish history generally, this dissertation explores the social and cultural connections between Ulster Catholics and Anglo-Scot Protestant settlers, and the social and cultural world of Ulster Catholics and Catholic converts. By examining several locales and specific Catholic families in the province, a nuanced portrait of interdenominational relationships and Catholic culture and society is forwarded. Additionally, the concerns of daily life and social connections are explored to register the amount of adaptation or resistance to the changing socio-economic and political conditions in Ulster. Moreover, the attempted Tridentine reforms of Ulster Catholic practice by the Catholic upper clergy during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was another "frontier" that was alternately adapted and resisted by the Ulster Catholic laity. Analysis of Catholic diocesan letters, Gaelic poetry and songs, family and estate papers, official state papers, and other contemporary works demonstrates the complexities of local interdenominational relationships and the diverse constructions of a "Catholic community" early modern Ulster.

It orders the access of both and is crossed by the Royal Main road which allows to connect Bactra. The Achaemenid kings make moreover of Ecbatana their summer residence, allowing them to control a hostile renowned territory, that of the mountains of Zagros, lived here by Cosseans. In fact, these are the Greek authors posterior to Alexander that deliver us a negative testimony of these mountain peoples : so, a re-examination of the literary documentation, numismatics and epigraphy allows to encircle the consequences of the Macedonian conquest in Media and to see the evolution of the territorial organization from the Seleucids to the Parthians. Seleucid kings make Ecbatana an important relay of the royal power, the authority of the satrap of Media also extending farther East, but, until the reign of Antiochus III, the territory of seleucid Media appears all the same to have missed coherence. Moreover, since Antiochos I, if Ecbatana certainly keeps its status of political capital of the High Satrapies, it is Seleucia on the Tigris who henceforth seems to have become the economic and financial capital. The policy of the Parthian kings, partly inheritance of that of Seleucid, marks a supplementary stage in the appropriation of the space, with a territorial integration in the interregional scale, containing Media and Babylonia : seleucid commons and contemporaries monograms of the mints of Seleucia and Ecbatana, then the division of labor operated in the parthian period between both mints are the proof

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the field of antimony, the first 1,2-distibacyclobutane with a SbSbCC sequence was isolated. Its formation involves the transient stibaallene ArSb=C=CR2 (Ar = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl, CR2 = fluorenylidene) followed by a head-to-head dimerization via two Sb=C double bonds. Molecular orbital calculations at the ab initio and DFT levels have been performed to understand the competition between head-to-head and head-to-tail dimerization. Attempts to synthesize the phosphastibaallene ArSb=C=PAr and reactions of di- and trisubstitution of antimony will be described. Concerning tin, a stable distannirane, the first stannic analogue of cyclopropane, was isolated and its structure was confirmed by X-ray analysis. Because of the probable lability of the tin-carbon double bond, the transient stannaallene Tip2Sn=C=CR2 (Tip = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl) could dissociate into carbene and stannylene, thus a reaction between the latter and the stannaallene should lead to the distannirane

Abstract:
This thesis is one part of a general research of the novel, non-expensive and environmentally friendly methods for the synthesis of the interesting molecules in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or material field. In particular, the objective consists of creating the C-C and C-heteroatom (S, N, P) bonds by using copper, manganese catalysis or transition-metal-free system. In the first part, a copper-catalyzed palladium-free Sonogashira reaction has been realized under biphasic conditions (water / organic substrates) allowing decreasing the copper loading up to 0.02 – 0.2 mol% and a potential intermediate species of this reaction, corresponding to a copper cluster linked with acetylide moiety, has been identified by X-ray diffraction. In the second part, we described a novel carbon dioxide involved copper-catalyzed system for the methylthiolation of aryl halides using dimethylsufoxide as a source of methylthio group. The presence of carbon dioxide is a crucial factor for the formation of aryl methyl sulfides products and its role is discussed. The third part describes the manganese-catalyzed homocoupling and cross-coupling reactions via the formation in situ of aryllithium from corresponding aryl halides or arenes. According to the experimental conditions, the symmetrical or unsymmetrical biaryls could be obtained. An intermediate complex of manganese which could involve in the reaction mechanism was detected by ESI-MS.Finally, a transition-metal-free system associating DMF with t-BuOK has been developed to realize the arylation of aromatic halide derivatives and various nucleophiles such as pyrazol, imidazole, dialkyl disulfide or diarylphosphine oxide. This project is at a preliminary stage

Abstract:
Abstract:
Increased levels of several coagulation factors and reduced levels of anti thrombin III (ATIII) have been observed in adults on oestrogen medication and in girls who were treated for excessive tallness with high doses of ethinyloestradiol (E2). In females using oral contraceptives an additional effect on the protein C system has been reported. In our study we evaluated the effect of e-thinyloestradiol treatment (0.1-0.3 mg, administered for at least 6 months) in 14 tall girls (age 14 + 2 yr and height 179 + 4 cm). 13 girls of comparable age (13 + 2 yr) and height 175 + 7 cm) served as controls. Protein C, protein S, C4-binding protein as well as Factor II, plasminogen and ATIII antigen levels were determined by rocket immunoelectrophoresis. ATI11 heparin cofactor ami do-lytic activity was assessed using S2222. Protein S antigen not in complex with C4b-binding protein (PSfree), was assayed in the supernatant plasma after selective precipitation of the protein S-C4b-binding protein complex with PEG 8000. Complete separation of free protein S and PS-C4b-bp complex was verified with crossed immunoelectrophoresis. Results were expressed as % of a normal pool. In the group of girls who were being treated with ethinyl oestradiol (E2-users) significantly higher levels (P<0.001) were observed for protein C (126 ± 29 vs 88 ± 10 in the controls), Factor II (109 ± 18 vs 81 ± 12 in the controls) and plasminogen (131 ± 19 vs 85 ± 9 in the controls). Protein S (58 ± 10 vs 97 ± 8 in the controls) and PSfree (54 ± 11 vs 88 ± 11 in the controls) were sig nificantly reduced (P<0.001) in the E2-users. Only a slight reduction was observed in ATIII antigen levels (95 ± 16 vs 104 ± 9 in the controls) and in the ATIII heparin cofactor activity (105 ± 14 vs 104 ± 9 in the controls). No difference between E2-users and controls was observed in the C4b-binding protein levels (111 ± 25 vs 114 ± 33).Results indicate that treatment of tall girls with high doses of synthetic oestrogens is associated with in vitro signs of hypercoagulability quite comparable to those observed in adult females. However, in contrast to observations made in adults no thromboembolic complications have been reported in juvenile subjects on E2-medication implying additional (aqe-related) variables in the qe-nesis of thrombosis.

Abstract:
Protein S circulates in plasma as free protein S and in complex with C4b-binding protein, an inhibitor of complement activation. Only free protein S functions as the cofactor for the anticoagulant and profibrinolytic effects of activated protein C. Since isolated reductions of protein C and protein S result in increased thrombotic risk, only measurement of both proteins permits comprehensive evaluation of the antithrombotic potential of the protein C system. No information is available on protein C and protein S functional levels during the postoperative period, an established prothrombotic condition. The plasma changes of protein C, protein S and C4b-binding protein were followed in 40 patients with no malignancy undergoing abdominal surgery. No significant change of protein C and protein S activi ty was observed following minor operations. After major surgery, protein C anticoagulant activity dropped to 80% of preoperative levels during the first postoperative week (p<0.00l). Significant increase of both total protein S antigen (110%, p< 0.01) and C4b-binding protein (130%, p<0.001) were observed after major surgery resulting in reduction of free protein S antigen to 86% of pre operative values (p<0.001). Protein S anticoagulant activity matched the changes of free protein S antigen.Albeit transient and moderate, the observed reductions of both protein C and protein S may act synergistically to cause significant impairment of the antithrombotic potential during the postoperative period. The effect of heparin prophylaxis on protein C and protein S postoperative levels is currently under investigation.

Abstract:
The newborn infant has a physiologically low level of protein C which rises very slowly in postnatal life. The frequency and significance of severe neonatal protein C deficiency has not been reported. In this study, protein C levels were measured in 110 newborn infants at the time of birth using functional (amidolytic, Cact) and immunologic (Laurell rocket, Cag) assays. The protein C levels were compared with a marker of thrombin activation (D-dimer fragment of fibrin, +D-D) and infants were subsequently followed for signs and symptoms of thrombosis. Results are summarized below (protein C levels are expressed as U/ml).Thirteen infants had protein C levels compatible with the homozygous deficiency state. Extremely low levels of protein C (<0.20 U/ml) were not found in well term infants and were rarely noted in stable preterm infants. D-D were infrequently present and no thrombosis occurred. Near term infants born with fetal distress frequently showed +D-D but rarely demonstrated extremely low levels of protein C. None of these infants required indwelling arterial catheters and no thromboses occurred. Preterm infants with severe respiratory distress showed lower protein C levels at birth (p <0.01). Although 71% had +D-D, thromboses in these infants were all related to invasive catheterizations. In contrast, the study population of twins demonstrated a high frequency of severe protein C deficiency with negative D-D and frequent thromboses, three of which occurred in the absence of instrumentation. In summary, severe protein C deficiency and thrombin activation are common in sick preterm infants with the risk of thrombosis increased by intravascular catheterization. In contrast, twins with severe protein C deficiency may manifest a thrombotic risk which is independent of thrombin activation or catheterization.

Abstract:
The dielectric properties and crystal structure of Ba0.85Sr0.15TiO3 and Ba0.85Sr0.15Ti0.92Zr0.08O3 ceramics were studied. The samples were synthesized by using solid-state method. The results show that the samples were single phase. The Ba0.85Sr0.15TiO3 exhibited tetragonal structure (space group P4mm), while with addition of 8 mol% Zr into Ba0.85Sr0.15TiO3 it shows that the sample exhibited orthorhombic structure (space group Amm2). The dielectric constant value increased from 1094 for pure, up to 4211 for Ba0.85Sr0.15Ti0.92Zr0.08O3 ceramic at Tc measured at 1 kHz. The Tc decreased from 80 °C down to 60 °C as 8 mol% Zr ions doped into Ba0.85Sr0.15TiO3 composition. The Ba0.85Sr0.15Ti0.92Zr0.08O3 ceramic exhibited lower dielectric loss, tan δ about 0.006 compared to Ba0.85Sr0.15TiO3 ceramic (tan δ = 0.009) when measured at 110 °C with frequency 1 kHz. The slope at low frequency region in capacitance vs frequency plot for both samples attributed by the grain boundary effect, whereas the high frequency plateau associated with the bulk response. The impedance spectroscopy analysis results show that both samples are dominated by the bulk response when an incomplete semicircle arc was observed in Zʺ vs Zʹ plot.

Abstract:
Beneficial use of reclaimed wastewater (RW) and biosolids (BS) in soils is accompanied by large input of sewage-originated P. Prolonged application may result in P accumulation up to levelsBeneficial use of reclaimed wastewater (RW) and biosolids (BS) in soils is accompanied by large input of sewage-originated P. Prolonged application may result in P accumulation up to levels that impair plant nutrition, increase P loss, and promote eutrophication in downstream waters. This study aims to shed light on the RW- and BS-P forms in soils and to follow the processes that determine P reactivity, solubility, availability, and loss in RW and BS treated soils. The Technion group used sequential P extraction combined with measuring stable oxygen isotopic composition in phosphate (δ18OP) and with 31P-NMR studies to probe P speciation and transformations in soils irrigated with RW or fresh water (FW). The application of the δ18OP method to probe inorganic P (Pi) speciation and transformations in soils was developed through collaboration between the Technion and the UCSC groups. The method was used to trace Pi in water-, NaHCO3-, NaOH-, and HCl- P fractions in a calcareous clay soil (Acre, Israel) irrigated with RW or FW. The δ18OP signature changes during a month of incubation indicated biogeochemical processes. The water soluble Pi (WSPi) was affected by enzymatic activity yielding isotopic equilibrium with the water molecules in the soil solution. Further it interacted rapidly with the NaHCO3-Pi. The more stable Pi pools also exhibited isotopic alterations in the first two weeks after P application, likely related to microbial activity. Isotopic depletion which could result from organic P (PO) mineralization was followed by enrichment which may result from biologic discrimination in the uptake. Similar transformations were observed in both soils although transformations related to biological activity were more pronounced in the soil treated with RW. Specific P compounds were identified by the Technion group, using solution-state 31P-NMR in wastewater and in soil P extracts from Acre soils irrigated by RW and FW. Few identified PO compounds (e.g., D-glucose-6-phosphate) indicated coupled transformations of P and C in the wastewater. The RW soil retained higher P content, mainly in the labile fractions, but lower labile PO, than the FW soil; this and the fact that P species in the various soil extracts of the RW soil appear independent of P species in the RW are attributed to enhanced biological activity and P recycling in the RW soil. Consistent with that, both soils retained very similar P species in the soil pools. The HUJ group tested P stabilization to maximize the environmental safe application rates and the agronomic beneficial use of BS. Sequential P extraction indicated that the most reactive BS-P forms: WSP, membrane-P, and NaHCO3-P, were effectively stabilized by ferrous sulfate (FeSul), calcium oxide (CaO), or aluminum sulfate (alum). After applying the stabilized BS, or fresh BS (FBS), FBS compost (BSC), or P fertilizer (KH2PO4) to an alluvial soil, P availability was probed during 100 days of incubation. A plant-based bioassay indicated that P availability followed the order KH2PO4 >> alum-BS > BSC ≥ FBS > CaO-BS >> FeSul-BS. The WSPi concentration in soil increased following FBS or BSC application, and P mineralization further increased it during incubation. In contrast, the chemically stabilized BS reduced WSPi concentrations relative to the untreated soil. It was concluded that the chemically stabilized BS effectively controlled WSPi in the soil while still supplying P to support plant growth. Using the sequential extraction procedure the persistence of P availability in BS treated soils was shown to be of a long-term nature. 15 years after the last BS application to MN soils that were annually amended for 20 years by heavy rates of BS, about 25% of the added BS-P was found in the labile fractions. The UMN group further probed soil-P speciation in these soils by bulk and micro X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES). This newly developed method was shown to be a powerful tool for P speciation in soils. In a control soil (no BS added), 54% of the total P was PO and it was mostly identified as phytic acid; 15% was identified as brushite and 26% as strengite. A corn crop BS amended soil included mostly P-Fe-peat complex, variscite and Al-P-peat complex but no Ca-P while in a BS-grass soil octacalcium phosphate was identified and o-phosphorylethanolamine or phytic acid was shown to dominate the PO fraction that impair plant nutrition, increase P loss, and promote eutrophication in downstream waters.
