Abstract:
Mulberry plants have wide range of variations in characters in view of its adaptability to cross pollination with no inter-specific reproduction barrier rendering it a heterozygous species. Every plant being different from the other in natural population, this great diversity makes it difficult to gather information and carry out studies on effect of different edaphic factors on the expression of genotypic characters for adjudging the variations. In lieu of this known diversity for posterity, the collection of mulberry genotypes from diverse genetic sources, their conservation, evaluation and consequent documentation is of prime importance. In the present study, 69 mulberry accessions were characterized for morphology, anatomy, and reproductive parameters. Evaluation for propagation, growth and yield characters were also carried out. Based on multiple trait analysis, 14 top performing accessions viz., MI-0879, MI-0882, MI-0908, MI-0931, MI-0907, MI-0940, MI-0881, MI-0941, MI0892, MI-0913, MI-0937, MI-0934, MI-0865, MI-0886 were identified. These accessions could serve as resources for further evaluation aimed at trait-specific crop improvement.

Abstract:
Mulberry is a dioecious species but, is usually cultivated as low bush or dwarf tree form by repeated pruning. Apart from its importance in silkworm rearing, it is also valued for its delicious fruits, medicinal properties in infusions, and ornamental shade tree. The conservation of mulberry genetic resources for future use and their subsequent usage in plant breeding are two critical areas of action in any genetic resource management programme. The current study used morphological, reproductive, anatomical, biochemical, propagation, growth, and yield variables to know the potential value of 22 mulberry accessions. Based on multiple trait analysis, the accessions MI-0946, MI-0945, MI-0953, MI-0948, MI-0935, MI-0948, MI-0936 and MI-0952 were identified as top performers for anatomy, propagation, biochemical, growth and yield parameters. These accessions may serve as potential parents for the future breeding program.

Abstract:
The food industry is a strategic industry in developing countries and plays a critical role in the economy, food security and public health. The development of probiotic food formulations is a key area for the future market of functional foods. The aim of this study was to develop a recipe for preventive milk and whey-based drinks using vitamins, minerals, prebiotics and probiotics and to study their organoleptic, physico-chemical, microbiological properties and food safety. As a result of the work, three variations of recipes were developed for each preventive drink, among which option №3 with high organoleptic and technological indicators was selected. A consortium of lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus casei 1А B-RCM 0947, Lactobacillus paracasei 2А B-RCM 0948, Lactobacillus brevis 4 LB B-RCM 0610, which have antimicrobial activity against opportunistic bacteria, was used as a probiotic starter. Inulin and pectin were used as a prebiotic supplement, vitamins A, C, B2, minerals potassium iodide and magnesium were used for enrichment (Sigma, USA). The food safety of prophylactic drinks №1 and №2 for the presence of opportunistic microorganisms - enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus, coliforms, salmonella, Escherichia coli, listeria, yeast, fungi was studied. As a result of the food safety assessment, the absence of growth of opportunistic microflora on diagnostic media was revealed. The physicochemical properties of prophylactic drinks №1 and №2 were determined - the mass fraction of fat, protein, DSMR, lactose, water, acidity, density and their compliance with the regulatory document. To preserve and determine the timing of prophylactic drinks, the viability of probiotic microorganisms was studied during storage at +4°C for 30 days. As a result, the investigated preventive drinks contain in their composition the appropriate amount of probiotic lactic acid bacteria 1.0x106 - 1.0x107 CFU/ml, and the recommended shelf life for prophylactic drink №1 is up to 30 days, for prophylactic drink №2 - up to 7- 10 days.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction The aim of this study was to assess parent perceptions of sleep problems in young children and parent-identified areas of change in a global sample. Methods Caregivers (95.6% mothers) of 1555 infants/toddlers (birth-37 mos; M=12.2 mos; 49.5% male) completed an online survey, representing Indonesia (n=187), Japan (n=718), New Zealand (n=231), Singapore (n=199), and Thailand (n=221). The survey included an abbreviated version of the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire, and a list of potential sleep-related areas of change. Results 36.9% reported a perceived sleep-problem, whereas 92.9% indicated an area of desired change related to their child’s sleep. In terms of areas of change, 82.5% endorsed bedtime/how child falls asleep, 70.0% nighttime sleep, and 57.8% related to the morning. As expected, 99.7% of parents who endorsed a problem indicated a desired change compared to 88.9% who did not perceive a problem, p < .001. Those who noted a problem were more likely to endorse a change at bedtime (92.5%) and during the night (90.1%), compared to the morning (68.8%). There were country-based differences, with caregivers in New Zealand (47.0%) and Singapore (44.2%) more likely to report a child sleep problem compared to Thailand (35.3%), Japan (34.1%) and Indonesia (29.4%), p < .001. No differences were noted in parent-report of desired change across Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand (94-96%) but were significantly higher than Indonesia (83.4%). Conclusion Although one-third of parents of young children in a global sample indicate a perceived sleep problem, almost all parents wish to change something about their child’s sleep, primarily relate to bedtime and during the night. Sleep education and assessment delivered by health care providers should focus not only on what families consider to be “problematic,” but also what families would like to modify, or improve, about their child’s sleep within a developmentally appropriate framework. Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Opioid withdrawal exacerbates depressive symptoms and poor sleep. Previous findings demonstrate suvorexant’s ameliorative effect on sleep disturbances during this period, but is unknown whether these changes also confer benefit for depressive or withdrawal symptoms. therefore, we aimed to examine the effects suvorexant oscillatory sleep-EEG power during inpatient opioid withdrawal, and to examine their association with withdrawal severity and depressive symptoms. Methods Participants with Opioid Use Disorder (N=38: age-range = 21-63years, 87% male, 45% white) underwent an 11-night withdrawal (3-night stabilization, 4-night buprenorphine taper, 3-night buprenorphine post-taper) and were randomly assigned to suvorexant (20mg [n=14] or 40mg [n=12]), or placebo [n=12], while ambulatory sleep-EEG data was collected. Linear mixed-effect models were used to test associations between sleep-EEG band power change, depressive symptoms, and withdrawal severity. Results Across the 11 night withdrawal period, reductions in oscillatory delta power were observed in all study groups, and increases in beta power (20mg: β = 2.579, pval = 0.009 | 40mg (β = 5.265, pval < 0.001) alpha power (20mg: β = 158.304, pval = 0.009 | 40mg: β = 250.212, pval = 0.001) and sigma power (20mg: β = 48.97, pval < 0.001 | 40mg: β = 71.54, pval < 0.001) were observed in the two suvorexant groups. During the four-night taper, decreases in delta power was associated with decreases in depression (20mg: β= -190.90, p = 0.99 | 40mg: β= -433.33, p = < 0.001 [*Bonferroni corrected]), and withdrawal severity (20mg: β= -215.55, p = 0.006* | 40mg: β= -192.64, p = < 0.001*), in both suvorexant groups and increases in sigma power were associated with decreases in withdrawal severity (20mg: β= -357.84, p = 0.004* | 40mg: β= -906.35, p = < 0.001*). Post-taper decreases in delta (20mg: β= -740.58, p = < 0.001* | 40mg: β= -662.23, p = < 0.001*) and sigma power (20mg only: β= -335.54, p = 0.023*) were associated with reduced depressive symptoms in the placebo group. Conclusion Results highlight a complex and nuanced relationship between sleep EEG power and symptoms of depression and withdrawal. Changes in oscillatory delta power may represent a mechanism influencing depressive symptoms and withdrawal. Support (if any) UG3DA048734

Abstract:
Background: Education, research, and Quality Improvement (QI) are key enablers for high quality care. We aimed to map the capability of Acute Medical Units (AMUs) to facilitate excellence in these areas. Methods: AMUs were surveyed in an organisational questionnaire within the Society for Acute Medicine Benchmarking Audit 2021. Results: 143 units participated. 80 units had a QI lead, 24 had a research lead and 99 had a medical education lead. 15 units had all three leadership roles. Most QI work considered service structure rather than changes in processes or care outcomes. Conclusion: The organisational capability of AMUs in the strategic areas considered is variable. Improving leadership and disseminating learning could help build a strategic foundation for acute medicine to grow.
