Abstract:
Mulberry plants have wide range of variations in characters in view of its adaptability to cross pollination with no inter-specific reproduction barrier rendering it a heterozygous species. Every plant being different from the other in natural population, this great diversity makes it difficult to gather information and carry out studies on effect of different edaphic factors on the expression of genotypic characters for adjudging the variations. In lieu of this known diversity for posterity, the collection of mulberry genotypes from diverse genetic sources, their conservation, evaluation and consequent documentation is of prime importance. In the present study, 69 mulberry accessions were characterized for morphology, anatomy, and reproductive parameters. Evaluation for propagation, growth and yield characters were also carried out. Based on multiple trait analysis, 14 top performing accessions viz., MI-0879, MI-0882, MI-0908, MI-0931, MI-0907, MI-0940, MI-0881, MI-0941, MI0892, MI-0913, MI-0937, MI-0934, MI-0865, MI-0886 were identified. These accessions could serve as resources for further evaluation aimed at trait-specific crop improvement.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Methods for quantifying emotional dream content have been developed. These approaches have yielded significant insights into dream content, their relation to waking cognition, and mental health. The current dream rating scale was developed to improve upon previous approaches by conceptualizing the scale based on the known fundamental affective neuronal circuits within the brain. Methods Seventy-seven items were developed representing fundamental emotions (SEEKING, RAGE, FEAR, LUST, CARE, GRIEF and PLAY). One-hundred dreams were randomly selected from a dream database (www.dream-bank.net). To determine interrater agreement, two raters scored all 77-items for each of the 100 dreams based on if the emotional content was present or not. Items with an interrater agreement (kappa) below .5 were excluded. Nightmares (i.e., extremely unpleasant or disturbing dreams) were independently identified by a sleep-trauma expert and compared to non-nightmares for the 7 scales. Results Thirty-three items (kappa > 0.5; range .5-.82) were retained for the final scale. Of the items retained, 29 (85%) were endorsed in 10% or more of dreams. The most frequently identified items in the final scale were danger (44%) and fear (45%). Seven emotional dream scales were apriori identified with 3-9 items each being retained in the final scales. Scales were significantly correlated between raters (r = .54 to .88, p< .001). Across the 100 dreams FEAR was the highest endorsed emotion scale while GRIEF was lowest. As expected, nightmares had significantly elevated scores compared to non-nightmares on the FEAR, RAGE, SEEKING and GRIEF scales (p< .001) but not CARE, LUST, or PLAY. Conclusion This dream rating scale based on mammalian emotional circuits previously identified through affective neuroscience shows promise for quantifying and understanding the emotional content of dreams. Future studies will need to further validate this preliminary affective dream content scale using different populations including individuals exposed to trauma and those with mental health and sleep disorders to determine its clinical utility. Abstract:
Abstract Introduction During the COVID pandemic, there was a decrease in the number of in lab positive airway pressure titration studies as well as in person DME company guided mask fittings due to COVID related restrictions. We wanted to assess the utility of daytime abbreviated sleep studies for PAP acclimation and mask fitting on patient compliance to therapy. Methods We assessed patients that were seen consecutively in our sleep lab for abbreviated sleep studies for positive airway pressure acclimation and mask fittings. Compliance rates 30 days prior to encounters were compared to compliance rates over the 30 days after the PAP acclimation and mask fitting took place. Results We found that the majority of patients that did undergo an encounter had improvement in their compliance rates. Despite this, we recognized that there was a lack of uniformity in the patient encounter as well as documentation as there was no formal protocol in place for physicians and sleep technicians to follow during these encounters. We sought to developed a new protocol that would allow for more uniform encounters and optimized patient care as well as clear and concise documentation of the encounter. Conclusion It is reassuring to see that daytime abbreviated PAP acclimation and mask fitting sessions do seem to improve compliance to therapy, but we recognize that the development of a new protocol is important to determine the clinical significance of this finding. This new protocol will allow us to improve the quality of care delivered to patients during in laboratory daytime abbreviated PAP acclimation and mask fitting sessions. With a new protocol in place we can reduce variables during the encounter and it will hopefully serve as a better platform to analyze how these sessions impact overall patient compliance to PAP therapy. Abstract:
In the context of a significant increase in obesity rates, quantifying the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and risk of pulmonary embolism (PE) is an essential component of accurate clinical risk assessment. This observational study is the first to explore this association by clinician-defined cause of the PE. We demonstrate that the association between BMI and PE is driven by patients with otherwise ‘unprovoked’ PE where there is a strong positive correlation with odds ratios equivalent to well-recognised major risk factors such as cancer, pregnancy and surgery. We make a case for the inclusion of BMI in risk-prediction tools.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Brain maturation has been associated with electroencephalogram (EEG) changes during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. There is a higher delta power during sleep in the first decade of the human EEG and this fact might be related to puberty period. Most studies assessed EEG during wakefulness and NREM sleep. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the REM sleep EEG spectral analysis across puberty. Methods Twenty healthy children were studied. They were divided into two groups: early puberty (n=10, ageranging from 6 to 12) and late puberty (n=10, age= ranging from 13 to 18). Polysomnography was performed in 2 nights, one for adaptation purpose. The Tanner scales were obtained and exclusion criteria were the presence of sleep and daytime complaints at least 14 days before recruitment. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was performed in C3-A2 derivation throughout all night. The FFT was calculated in 4s windows and the mean of delta (0.5-2.0 Hz), delta 2 (2.0-4.0 Hz), theta (4.0-8.0 Hz), alpha (8.0 - 12.0 Hz), sigma (12.0-16.0 Hz) and beta (16.0 - 20.0 Hz) were obtained. Results We found differences during NREM and REM sleep between two groups (U-test, p<0.05). In REM sleep, the delta 2 (U-test, p=0.02)and theta power were higher in early puberty group (U-test p=0.04). The delta power correlated negatively with the duration in minutes of stage 1 (rs=-0.46 p<0.05), and the wake time after sleep onset (rs=-0.48, p<0.05) and correlated positively with sleep efficiency (rs=0.45, p<0.05). Theta power during REM sleep also correlated positively with N3 sleep stage (rs=0.45, p<0.05). Conclusion The REM sleep can be an extremely useful biomarker of brain function for future therapeutic protocols. The present results suggest that there are changes in REM sleep EEG throughout puberty, and that they may be related to puberty brain maturation. The hormone therapy may have an action in the REM behavioral Sleep Disorder. Future studies are need to evaluate this hypothesis. Support N/A

Abstract:
Abstract The presence of antibodies mediating antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected target cells was investigated with 170 sera from patients with varying severity of HIV infection. Approximately 40% of sera from individuals representing all stages of infection were ADCC-positive when tested against HTLV-IIIB infected 0937 clone 2 target cells. The positive sera had higher HIV antibody titers as measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay compared with ADCC-negative sera. ADCC titers were lower in patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome than in asymptomatic carriers. This decline in ADCC titer was not correlated with a general decrease of HIV antibodies. No correlation between the CD4:CD8 lymphocyte ratio and ADCC activity was found. The possible beneficial effect of ADCC-inducing antibodies early in infection is discussed in relation to the effect of ADCC-inducing antibodies in other retrovirus systems and to the nature of lentivirus infections.
