In this paper we study the conditions under which the stability number of line graphs, generalized line graphs and exceptional graphs attains a convex quadratic programming upper bound. In regular graphs this bound is reduced to the well known Hoffman bound. Some vertex subsets inducing sub graphs with regularity properties are analyzed. Based on an observation concerning the Hoffman bound a new construction of regular exceptional graphs is provided. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 05C50.

Abstract:
This study aimed to assess different microbial additives, regarding the efficiency of aerobic stability in corn silages. The corn hybrid used for silages production was the DKB 310. The treatments consisted of: 1) control treatment without any microbial additive; 2) Treatment with LPPA composed of: Lactobacillus plantarum CCT 0580 3.1 x 1010 CFU g-1 and Propionibacterium acidipropionici CCT 4843 3.1 x 1010 CFU g-1; 3) Treatment with Inoculum, composed of Bacillus subtilis CCT 0089 3.0 x 109 CFU g-1, Lactobacillus plantarum CCT 0580 1.2 x 1010 CFU g-1 and Propionibacterium acidipropionici CCT 4843 1.5 x 1010 CFU g-1 and 4) Treatment LB, composed only of Lactobacillus buchneri CCT 3746 2.6 x 1010 CFU g-1. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replicates for each treatment. For the parameters evaluated daily, we used the split plot design, in which the different silages were assigned to the plots and the time of exposure to air was assigned to the subplots. There was no difference of additives on silage pH in any of the evaluation days. The control silage reached higher temperatures indicating greater vulnerability. All additives had no aerobic instability. Silages made with the use of microbial additives were effective in maintaining the aerobic stability.

Abstract:
We examine the problem of counting interval graphs. We answer the question posed by Hanlon, of whether the formal power series generating function of the number of interval graphs on n vertices has a positive radius of convergence. We have found that it is zero. We have obtained a lower bound and an upper bound on the number of interval graphs on n vertices. We also study the application of interval graphs to the dynamic storage allocation problem. Dynamic storage allocation has been shown to be NP-complete by Stockmeyer. Coloring interval graphs on-line has applications to dynamic storage allocation. The most colors used by Kierstead's algorithm is 3 ω -2, where ω is the size of the largest clique in the graph. We determine a lower bound on the colors used. One such lower bound is 2 ω -1.

Abstract:
In this thesis, we consider the three following problems: clustering in Bipartite Stochastic Block Model, estimation of topic-document matrix in topic model, and benign overfitting in nonparametric regression. First, we consider the graph clustering problem in the Bipartite Stochastic Block Model (BSBM). The BSBM is a non-symmetric generalization of the Stochastic Block Model, with two sets of vertices. We provide an algorithm called the Hollowed Lloyd's algorithm, which allows one to classify vertices of the smallest set with high probability. We provide statistical guarantees on this algorithm, which is computationnally fast and simple to implement. We establish a sufficient condition for clustering in BSBM. Our results improve on previous works on BSBM, in particular in the high-dimensional regime. Second, we study the problem of assigning topics to documents using topic models. Topic models allow one to discover hidden structures in a large corpus of documents through dimension reduction. Each topic is considered as a probability distribution on the dictionary of words, and each document is considered as a mixture of topics. We introduce an algotihm called the Successive Projection Overlapping Clustering (SPOC) algorithm, inspired by the Successive Projection Algorithm for Non-negative Matrix Factorization. The SPOC algorithm is computationnally fast and simple to implement. We provide statistical guarantees on the outcome of the algorithm. In particular, we provide near matching minimax upper and lower bounds on its estimation risk under the Frobenius and the l1-norm. Our clustering procedure is adaptive in the number of topics. Finally, the third problem we study is a nonparametric regression problem. We consider local polynomial estimators with singular kernel, which we prove to be minimax optimal, adaptive to unknown smoothness, and interpolating with high probability. This property is called benign overfitting

Abstract:
Under approval voting, every voter may vote for any number of canditates. To model approval voting, we let a political spectrum be the set of all possible political positions, and let each voter have a subset of the spectrum that they approve, called an approval region. The fraction of all voters who approve the most popular position is the agreement proportion for the society. We consider voting in societies whose political spectrum is modeled by $d$-dimensional space ($\mathbb{R}^d$) with approval regions defined by axis-parallel boxes. For such societies, we first consider a Tur&#aacute;n-type problem, attempting to find the maximum agreement between pairs of voters for a society with a given level of overall agreement. We prove a lower bound on this maximum agreement and find in the literature a proof that the lower bound is optimal. By this result we find that for sufficiently large $n$, any $n$-voter box society in $\mathbb{R}^d$ where at least $\alpha\binom{n}{2}$ pairs of voters agree on some position must have a position contained in $\beta n$ approval regions, where $\alpha = 1-(1-\beta)^2/d$. We also consider an extension of this problem involving projections of approval regions to axes. Finally we consider the question of $(k,m)$-agreeable box societies, where a society is said to be $(k, m)$-agreeable if among every $m$ voters, some $k$ approve a common position. In the $m = 2k - 1$ case, we use methods from graph theory to prove that the agreement proportion is at least $(2d)^{-1}$ for any integer $k \ge 2.$

Abstract:

Abstract:
The set R of relevant cycles of a graph G is the union of its minimum cycle bases. We introduce a partition of R such that each cycle in a class W can be expressed as a sum of other cycles in W and shorter cycles. It is shown that each minimum cycle basis contains the same number of representatives of a given class W. This result is used to derive upper and lower bounds on the number of distinct minimum cycle bases. Finally, we give a polynomial-time algorithm to compute this partition. (author's abstract)

Abstract:
We proposed the project of a new reading of the theological work of saint Maximus the Confessor (580-662) when we had the intuition of the convergence and the congruence, in spite of their chronological distance, with the phenomenology of Michel Henry (1922-2002). Neither historic comment, nor interpretation, nor comparatism or instrumentalization of the phenomenology to the advantage of the theology, our material phenomenological reading of the Commentary on the “Pater” is concerned only by the cogeneration of two thoughts, in and from the same and the unique transcendentality of Life. This reading discovers the categories of Henryan phenomenology, and their last affinity with the « transcendental Christianity », in the text of the Commentary itself, which constitutes, through seven mysteries revealed in the Incarnation of the Verb, a condensed presentation of Maximian « phenomenological ontology ». In a first methodological level, we show in their work the same criticism that the transcendental Lebenstheologie sends to the theïological Monism. In a second part, we tried to present the triadological archi-theology, the material cosmology and the anthropology through the various types of differe/ances and chia/asmuses. In the third part, we develop the articulation between the material hamartiology, with the question of the original Forgetting, and the archi-christology which clarifies the Chiasmus of Incarnation – the Christ. In the fourth part, taking back the followed commentary by the demands of the “Pater”, our reading presents the dynamic movement of the theological Reduction in pneumatic Chiasmus

Abstract:
Richard Ehrenborg conjectured that in a bipartite graph G with parts X and Y, the number of spanning trees is at most the product of the vertex degrees divided by |X|⋅|Y|. We make two main contributions. First, using techniques from spectral graph theory, we show that the conjecture holds for sufficiently dense graphs containing a cut vertex of degree 2. Second, using electrical network analysis, we show that the conjecture holds under the operation of removing an edge whose endpoints have sufficiently large degrees. Our other results are combinatorial proofs that the conjecture holds for graphs having |X| ≤ 2, for even cycles, and under the operation of connecting two graphs by a new edge. We also make two new conjectures based on empirical data, each of which is stronger than Ehrenborg's conjecture.
