Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this article is to summarize the experience and develop the conceptual framework of simulation modeling in the field of research and validation of system engineering solutions taken at various stages of the life cycle of railway automation and remote control systems. To address the stated objective, a systemic approach and formalization of the key principles and challenges of simulation modeling at the system engineering level have been employed. Terms and definitions have been formulated, collectively forming the conceptual framework in the subject area under consideration. Based on the introduced conceptual framework, a technology for simulation modeling of railway automation and remote control systems at the system level has been proposed. It is stated that a simulation model of a complex system is itself a complex system with its own life cycle, represented in the form of the proposed modeling technology. The main problem highlighted in the application of the simulation modeling method is its lack of structure. To address this issue, various methods of formalization have been proposed at all stages of the life cycle of simulation models. The proposed conceptual framework ensures higher quality of communicativeness and training of participants in solving system engineering problems using simulation modeling methodology. The technology of simulation modeling has been applied and continues to be applied at various stages of the life cycle of microprocessor-based railway automation and remote control systems.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to present the results of developing a method for formalizing simulation models of railway automation and remote control systems as queuing systems with a rigidly regulated sequence of using service devices while processing streams of requests of various types. For the software implementation of simulation models with such properties, the GPSS World tool is traditionally used. The logical time formalization is proposed, and the concept of the proposed formalization of simulation models is formulated. Its main provisions include: the type of request is determined solely by the composition and sequence of occupation and release of servicing devices; the use of transaction parameters to organize their multiphase processing for each type of request; checking the value of Boolean functions for each procedure of processing requests for each type; the regulated time in the procedure of processing requests is considered as one of the many logical conditions of Boolean functions; logical and parametric description of the modeled system should be performed at the level of initial data without changing the text of the modeling program. Objects in GPSS World sufficient for implementing this concept have been identified. Using the selected objects, an alphabet has been compiled, and logical diagrams of modeling algorithms have been developed in the obtained alphabet. This serves as a demonstration of the application of the logical time concept for the formalization of simulation models of complex queuing systems. A GPSS program has been developed to confirm the possibility and feasibility of using the proposed method for formalizing simulation models of railway automation systems with a rigid structure.

Abstract:
The article discusses the issues of increasing the reliability, safety, and survivability of power supply for railway automation and remote control devices. The authors have analyzed failures in the automation and remote control facilities in recent years, estimated the proportion of device failures due to lightning overvoltages, and highlighted an upward trend in the railway automation and remote control failures due to switching and lightning overvoltages. The design of modern uninterruptible power supply devices is provided with a description of the main structural units. Methods are proposed for the implementation of active protection for power supply of railway automation and remote control by introducing the thunderstorm locating functionality into the technical diagnostics and monitoring system. This solution will enable registration of hazardous thunderstorm activity and maintaining the devices’ serviceability and effi ciency, and will ensure the continuity and safety of the transportation process, which will help reduce damage incurred due to hazardous electromagnetic eff ects, including lightning overvoltages. The article suggests synchronizing the thunderstorm location system with the existing lightning detection networks through the Internet, a global computer network, as well as the option of installing a single-point lightning detector at an electrical interlocking post.

Abstract:
The paper discusses the issues of incident management at technical operation of microprocessor systems of railway automation and telemechanics on the railway network of the JSC Russian Railways. The widely used microprocessor interlocking centralization of switches and signals (MPI) EBILock 950, the development of a joint Russian-Swedish company Bombardier Transportation (Signal), is considered as an object of the research. The analysis of algorithms and patterns of interaction between the operating staff of operating enterprises and specialists of service centres revealed a number of shortcomings in the system of the MPI maintenance and repair organization. As a result, the authors have proposed an alternative scheme for organizing the technical operation of microprocessor systems based on the incident management system implemented as a web application. This application makes it possible to monitor the quality and timing of service operations, accumulate information on methods for eliminating complex non-standard failures and automate the processing of requests by service centres.

Abstract:
Unstable operation of rail chain equipment and locomotive equipment of automatic locomotive signaling causes false switching of traffic lights that negatively affects the capacity of railway sections and train traffic safety. Such failures in automatic locomotive signaling operation impacts negatively on locomotive crew mentality. At increased intensity of the failures, it is allowed to turn off automatic locomotive signaling equipment as faulty one that significantly worsens train traffic safety. On electrified railways, the main cause of failures in this equipment operation is the interfering effect of traction currents. Traction current most strongly interferes with the operation of these devices at this current inequality in rail lines at those places where rail chain equipment is connected or under receiving locomotive coils of automatic locomotive signaling. The interfering activity occurs while an asymmetry (difference in values) of longitudinal and/or transverse resistances of a rail line due to the deterioration of the state of rail butt connectors, throttle jumpers and/or the breakdown of spark arresters in the circuits of connection to rails of grounding circuits of various structures. It is difficult to control the state of electrically conductive elements in rail lines because of their multiplicity and also as their electrical resistance in a tolerance area has milliohm order. It causes the necessity to work out better ways on electro-magnetic situation check and approaches to define the condition of indicated elements such as numerous grounding circuits. It’s time-consuming task but must be carried out with the fulfillment of all requirements for operation in high-voltage lines. This article presents some results on the development of methods for controlling electrically conductive and insulating elements in rail chains and that are more suitable for performing maintenance work of equipment of rail chain and locomotive automatic signaling.

Abstract:
The main advantages of microprocessor systems of railway automation and remote control in relation to relay systems, as well as the advantages of using field-programmable gate array (FPGAs) in comparison with microprocessors for solving control system synthesis problems are presented. Examples of the possibility of using FPGAs in devices and systems of railway automation and remote control are given. The possibility of synthesizing a finite state machine on an FPGA that implements route dependencies at an arbitrary station is considered. For this purpose, the logic of the operation of railway automation and remote control devices is described, all possible states of the designed device are identified and the conditions of transitions between them are recorded. A method of synthesis of a finite state machine implementing route dependencies based on building up graphs of typical devices has been formed. The advantage of this approach is the possibility of synthesizing railway automation and remote control devices according to specified logical algorithms, using a modern element base.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to present the results of formalizing the description and developing a formalized transition from a static functional IDEF0-model to a dynamic, simulation model of the life cycle of railway automation and remote control systems. The GPSS World tool is traditionally used for software implementation of simulation models. A concept for representing IDEF0-diagram formalisms using a mathematical queuing scheme is proposed. The main provisions of the concept are: an object-application, the type of which is determined by the type of objects, and the mechanism is determined by the servicing device. The properties of these applications and serving devices are recorded in the rows of the passport matrix; connections in accordance with the IDEF0-diagram are indicated by recording the indices of the block-function sequentially in the row of the given block-function. The possibility of realizing the block-function function is evaluated by a Boolean function. The arguments of this function are: control sign, required resources, state of service devices. The block-function function is checked by the Boolean function of monitoring the time of block-function occupation. To realize this concept the following GPSS World tools are defined: continuous and discrete functions, transactions, singlechannel devices, logical keys, MX$PASP01 matrix, user list, Boolean variables. A universal GPSS-model, tuned to a specific IDEF0-diagram at the source data level, is developed based on indirect addressing of the specified tools. At the same time, it allows not to change the program text. The developed GPSS-program formalizes the possibility and feasibility of the transition from the IDEF0-diagram to the GPSS-model of life cycle of railway automation systems.
